We Don't Need No Stinkin' Continuity
Tumblr media
Maybe it's petty of me to keep carping on this, Heartland writers, but if you can't keep even something like this straight...
Maybe we are living in a divergent Heartland timeline, and have been for a while.
Maybe we're in the DeadTy! Universe, where Ty dies (obviously); where Jack had a sister named June whose burial plot is right there in front of everyone's eyes, but no one ever wondered who she was or asked about her because Jack never mentioned her (until Luke happened to notice it); whose lovely little sketch inspired the Heartland Ranch brand, and who should have been alive when Jack married Lyndy; a timeline where Lyndy is buried at the Heartland family plot (and has a headstone we never saw until Jess took a picture of Jack standing in front of it) instead of Jack having spread her ashes in the river like he so poignantly revealed to Lisa on their first real date.
Didn't anyone compile a series bible for this show?

The episode took us on a truly emotional ride because Lyndy's disappearance during the Hudson Farmer's Market sent shockwaves through the family, while Shane faced life-changing news.

More Plot Hole Heartland...
Don't get me wrong. I've actually loved a lot of Season 17 of Heartland. But they get themselves into trouble, it seems, with their dead characters. This time around, it's Lyndy (Sr.). Granted, even I didn't quite pick up on this one right when it dropped, but on further reflection, I now know why the "Jack has rift with Jess" plot line struck an odd note with me.
SPOILER ALERT. Read no further to avoid stuff.
Jess took the bold move of shooting a candid photo of Jack. She had all this flowery language about the lighting, the vulnerability of this tough cowboy standing at a gravesite, blah, blah, blah... And Jack was justifiably upset to have had an intimate moment caught on film and put on display in a public gallery showing...
Tumblr media
The intimate moment at the gravesite in question is where the potential trouble comes in.
Why?
The headstone is apparently Lyndy's (Jack's late wife).
A headstone we've never seen before.
A headstone that should not exist, because Jack told Lisa way back in Season 1 that he spread Lyndy's ashes at the riverbank near the fishing cabin.
Granted, Jack could also have interred some of Lyndy's ashes at the Heartland cemetery, but all this time we never knew of a Lyndy headstone.
The conflict between Jack and Jess was weak, and even unnecessary, in my opinion (apologies to the writer[s] who pitched that idea). In my opinion, it would have worked better had it been June's headstone, or even Marion's headstone, because then there wouldn't have been any ret-conning of events for it to work. But I digress.

Heartland S15 E10 - Leaving a Legacy
Hi!
It’s been a busy month or so, so I haven’t really been watching the episodes on time - more like the saturday before the new ep hence the lack of recaps but I figured i’d do one last general recap for the season as a whole/this particular episode.
Let’s start with Amy - she gets a letter from Lily with a cheque for “alot of money”. The decision she made to invest in the centre, a centre that Clint will be overseeing (yay more clint!) and can help more teens like Ty to continue his “legacy” was the best move (of course after putting away enough for Lyndy’s future - hopefully she invests it and doesn’t leave it in a chequing account!). And not just because this means we get to see more of Logan in future seasons. it is also a good opportunity for Amy to spread her wings, get out from the fam home and meet new clients.
I’ve really enjoyed Logan’s season arc. Kind of reminds me of Ty’s but more condensed which is always a nice change. With Amy and Clint by his side, helping to nurture him into a brighter future and helping him hone is skills, he is sure to grow into a better person.
After hemming and hawing, Lou FINALLY FINALLY (with the help of Rick), admitted her feelings and her and Peter got back together. She accepted that it won’t be perfect, and that they will continue living separate (for now I assume, with lots more visits) and honestly? I do think they work better when they have the space to do their own shit but also can visit more often. Maybe in the future they’ll decide to move in together, move closer .... etc but for now I think they reached a good arrangement. I’m glad Katie approves since shes the one living at home but I did find it kind of funny that they were then going to take a family trip to Florida to tell Georgie in person.
Speaking of Georgie, she was largely absent and I didn’t miss her. Like i said earlier, if Alisha wants less time for the show, that’s fine. I do wish that they included some facetime footage, or some video footage of the family watching her races on tv (like they did for Lisa), just so we feel like the family still remembers Georgie is apart of the family (bc ya know i kind of forgot).
And At the end of the episode, i wish we saw a montage of peter/katie/lou in florida telling georgie (even if its as simple as like a 5 second scene of them as a family sitting down)
LISA! LISA! we saw so much Lisa this episode - im so glad we got to see her work and her interact with the family more. If the price to pay for less georgie was more Lisa, i’ll take it. i love that the entire family was there for her when she needed it (for a second i thought amy would take over as jockie-ing haha). I would definitely love to see more Lisa storylines in the future.
Tim and Jessica with her health scare gave me vibes of Jack and Lisa. I’m glad it turned out to be insignificant and I do like them as a couple. I however, also think they should move out of the loft, let Lyndy/Amy move there and get her own place (ya know like her NYC loft), however logistically i do get why having everyone under the same roof for filming makes sense. ALSO THE LOFT SHOULD GET A DAMN DOOR.
If there is a S16, my hope is that:
- Alisha comes back (even if its only for 1-2 episodes or facetime). Or if she isn’t coming back, more of an explanation as to why she’s gone. What has she been up to? How is her training going? Is she still with whats his face Jordan Burtchett’s character? (i forgot his name okay)
- a few episodes with side characters getting a story B about their own personal lives - and not in relation to other Fleming-bartletts. for example, caleb only getting a story because it relates to Tim/Amy. I want to hear about his life with Cass/his son, stories about Scott’s life as it is now
- IF ALISHA doesn’t want to come to CGY to film, then lets film something in vancouver (where she lives) and show footage of her visiting peter. Michelle morgan also lives in vancouver, so even if its stock footage, lets see the 4 of them hanging out in vancouver and that way they (the actors) could stay close to home
- For amy to grow more professionally and for her to get some female friends (or friends other than caleb/sam)
- More Lyndy footage! And Rick!
Overall, I enjoyed this season! I even think i enjoyed it more than last season, so fingers crossed for a season 16!
