Me, forcibly making Darth Vader sit down in a school desk: it wasn’t your fault.
Me: Star Wars is a lot of things, but it is a tragedy and amazingly philosophical, and you are one of the reasons for that. Because you are a good person, who does good things, and although you had flaws like everyone else, you would’ve been great. And that’s why it’s a tragedy because you’re always a slave- to Watto, to Sidious, to the grand plan; you were an amazing and upstanding person who was put in circumstances that made you into a monster because any one would’ve killed and any Jedi would’ve fallen and it wasn’t fair.
Darth Vader: I killed my wife, that is unforgivable
Me: because of anger issues and instability (and many mental issue(s)), but those were all things that normal people have albeit not often to your degree but that’s because they’re aloud to go to therapy for it, they’re aloud to express their emotions. The Jedi were corrupt which stopped you from having any skill to manage these problems normally, not helped by the fact Palpatine encouraged your flaws. And this is ignoring the whole untreated PTSD, child slave, war issue.
Darth Vader: do not resolve me of the guilt because-
Me: I’m not! Darth Vader is a villain, but my point is: he’s not the villain, he never wanted to be a villain, he was manipulated/groomed into becoming a villain, and while you shouldn’t be forgiven from what you did we cannot ignore the situation that caused you to do it. You should not go free, you should not be resolved of all guilt, but there’s also the fact that if you had been in a good and safe environment with a therapist and your family and you weren’t in constant danger, you wouldn’t have done any of that- if you had it would’ve been to a much smaller scale, you would’ve hit Padmé at absolute worst and you’d regret it as much as you regret killing her- which you didn’t by the way. Okay I’m repeating myself at this point, just- go get therapy, stop killing your coworkers, kill Sidious, pass control of the galaxy onto someone who will make it better like Mon Mothma or Bail Organa, and take a vacation to someplace where there isn’t danger and go to therapy. I’m sure your kids will at least give you a chance if you explain.
Darth Vader: my whats.
Me: *bringing in a 15 year old sandy Luke and an angry Leia* yours, deal with them, fix yourself first tho. *I start storming off into the distance* SERIOUSLY NO ONE GAVE THE SLAVE CHILD THERAPY *my voice becomes unintelligible from distance and rage*
Kix, a medic who’s very tired of Vaders banthash!t: she’s right you know
Darth Vader: how long have you been standing there

The original trio has already seen so many horrors.
No matter how much Obi-Wan complains, Anakin would insist on telling his kids Obi-Wan is their grandpa.

*Ahsoka finally meets the twins*
Ahsoka: So if you guys were raised apart, how did you first meet?
Leia: Jail!
Ahsoka: What? You both met while you were arrested???
Luke: No, Leia was the only one who got arrested. She sent a message to Obi-Wan Kenobi asking for him to break her out, and I just tagged along.
Ahsoka: Oh my God, you really are your parents' children!

a single mom padmé idea that’s been living in my brain lately
[ note: the clothing inspiration for these designs were taken from bedouin, tuareg, iranian, and saudi arabian references, as well as the original tatooinian designs + padmé’s nieces in the aotc cut scenes. i wanted my version of tatooine to more accurately reflect what desert cultures look like in the real world and just be more practical in general ]

I take your “I don’t remember my mother” and give you “Luke thought Leia and Padmé visions were the same person”

What do Luke, Leia, and more importantly PADMÉ (and the whole gang really) react to Anakin having siblings - and those siblings being literal Dathomiri Force Gods that Anakin also was instrumental in killing
can u imagine if they DIDN'T die tho

Obi-Wan’s whole thing with the Skywalkers kills me. Like hi these are my children their names are Luke and Leia. I have canonically been called their other father. Oh no well technically they’re my former Padawan and best friend’s children with his wife. Yeah I do obsessively search for aspects of him within his kids as he does for aspects of me. Oh yeah no I very much do still love him after all these years. His wife trusts me more than anyone and he’s been accused of loving me more than his wife so we’re all pretty tight. I have been certain since I met him that we would die together. Also I was there when his kids were born and was the first to hold them. And helped raise and protect them. And taught their father one last lesson in immortality so we could be together in the force forever. Anyway what was the question

yes there's a lot of things to criticize about Star Wars but one thing i will always love it for is being so unabashedly tragic
i'm sure it's been said before, but one of the main things i think powers the SW fandom (fics in particular) is the (in)evitability of it all
time travel fix-its are one of the most popular sub-categories of fics that i've seen (for the prequels at least) but i see it much more rarely in other fandoms. i know each fandom has their own niches that they dig into but star wars fic writers took one look at this decades long story of people who were doomed from the start and said 'not in my house bitch'
and i'm never tired of it, because there's so many places where just one different action could have changed the story entirely, but didn't
was it over the moment Palpatine succeeded in feeding Anakin's fears and his distrust toward the Jedi? the moment the Sith gained control of the senate? what about when the war started, when the Jedi were made generals of men designed to be their executioners? what about when Dooku left the order? when Qui-Gon Jinn died, leaving barely-knighted Obi Wan Kenobi to raise a child he had no idea how to care for? when the Jedi massacred the Mandalorians at Galidraan, leaving Jango Fett primed (hah) for revenge? when Palpatine, and thus the Sith, first gained influence? when the Jedi were tied to the Republic, all the way back at the Ruusan Reformation?
there are so many little moments that turn into this huge web of cause and effect when you take a step back. and in canon, these characters are dooming themselves while we watch, but what reason do they have to do anything different? they don't know they're in a tragedy - its dramatic irony at its goddamn finest
but there's this thing about decisions: for it to be a choice, there has to be another option. and our heroes make their mistakes because that's what they do, while we aren't privy to that other option, leaving that little what-if. it's a favorite human pastime, to think about what might have been.
we start at episode 4, though, fourty or so years after what you could arguably call the start, and find ourselves watching the dominoes fall in place throughout 1, 2, and 3.
and we can hate the choices, hate the tragedy, hate what happened to our beloved characters, but we knew. we had the luxury of knowing.
it's a love story, it's political intrique, it's sci-fi at its finest, and they were dead from the start.
