FF1 PSP: Lufenian NPC Dialogue
Between Stranger of Paradise and Dissidia putting a spotlight on them, I figured it would be fun to fire up the PSP and see what the Lufenians of that version had to say.
We are the Lufenians, the descendants of the race that once lived among the clouds - the Sky People. You use a vessal you call an airship⌠It was built by one of our ancestors⌠a man by the name of Cid.
We have a legend that has been passed down through many generations. According to this legend, four hundred years after the fall of the civilization in the sky, Warriors bearing light will come forth to save our people. The Light Bearers! Then the legend is true!
Four hundred years ago, we had built a civilization of the highest order. Even beyond the skies we reached⌠but that is naught but history now.
The Sky People would pass on their memories from one generation to the next through rituals. But four hundred years is a very long time, and those memories have begun to fade.
This world is composed of four forces: Fire, Earth, Water, Wind. Of these, we showed greatest prowess with the power of wind. High in the sky, we set a castle afloat amidst an azure sea of stars.
The flying castle floats on a blue sea of stars beyond the sky.
Could the mechanical beings our ancestors created still function?
We fought a life-and-death struggle with Tiamat, the Fiend of Wind. But our power was not enough⌠To this day her lair remains in the castle in the sky - the Flying Fortress.
The Mirage Tower is our symbol.
Tiamat blocks the power of wind, the source of the Sky People's strength.
We placed our last hope in the five warriors we sent out⌠It's been said they fell victim to the curse of the Fiends and were turned into bats.
We came to believe there was another entity controlling the four Fiends. To ascertain its location, we sent out five warriors, but much time has passed since we heard from them. I hope no harm has befallen themâŚ
The castle that floats high above the clouds was once the home of our ancestors. The Mirage Tower is the gateway to that castle.
There's some interesting stuff:
Cid of the Lufaine is mentioned. This was a retcon made in the GBA (or Wonderswan? not sure) version of the game due to FF1 otherwise lacking a Cid. Earlier versions simply mentioned that the Lufenians' ancestors built the ship. Dissidia would heavily expand on Cid of the Lufaine while Memory of Heroes would provide a different take.
Though that said, a bit of nuance was lost over time: The race of people that lived in the sky were simply known as "Sky People" while their descendants are the Lufenians. Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise would both drop this concept, using "Lufenians" for both implicitly. I've no idea what the Japanese versions say about this.
Some of the text mentioning the Flying Fortress is downright painful to read, since it's pretty clearly supposed to suggest that the Fortress was in space. Maybe space is blue in FF1?
The Memory transfer rituals mentioned here become a pivotal plot point in the Dissidia subseries. The method of making manikins with wills is to infuse them with memories. The memories of 10+ people result in Chaos, the god of discord. Cosmos was made from the memories of Cid's wife taken from Chaos, Cid's wife passes on her memories through those same rituals, Cid creates the Warrior of Light through this method, etc. Stranger of Paradise would thematically keep the link with Lufenians having to do with memories, but goes for simpler, technological dark crystals rather than any sort of ritual.
Another nuance difference: Earlier versions suggests that the Lufenias were 'blessed' with wind, while in this version they say that they 'showed greatest prowess' with it. Again, I have no idea what the Japanese says.
In general, Lufenia's ties with the Wind Crystal specifically seem to have been downplayed in other games. In Dissidia, the Floating Fortress' creation is implied due to the Levistone rather than the Wind Crystal (either that or they failed, a contrast with Stranger of Paradise which implies they succeeded). Stranger of Paradise doesn't even tie them specifically to the Wind Crystal: They created all four crystals and the Flying Fortress' significance is moreso to act as a warp network for Jack and his allies when they're trying to relight the crystals.

I'm starting my sparkle-off Thursday right by thinking about the sheer grift executed by [redacted] in sopffo. to socially engineer your stemlord marks from this:
to THIS:
is just đ¤â¨
this was inevitable, of course. there is almost no resistance at all to [redacted] inviting themselves into Lufenia's house (and they brought presents! yay!!)
and what little suspicion there is gets bulldozed almost immediately
also, it's so weird how all the cool stuff [redacted] gave them isn't...doing anything. not for Lufenia, anyway.
nice of them to take our garbage that has no use though. :]
#sopffo#stranger of paradise final fantasy origin#lufenia being the most bullshit workplace full of idiotic managers that don't THINK is legitimately one of my favorite parts of this game#there's so much meta to be had... *clutches fist*#you *know* lufenians are clicking on all the suspicious emails#enjoy my phone notes lol

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Crevasse Grace Descending Event Part 7
The Crevasse: Grace Descending event just started in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game. This event includes several quests.
Table of Contents
Crevasse: Grace Descending Event Information
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 1 Lufenia+ quest
Crevasse: Grace Descending Total Points
Conclusion
Crevasse: Grace Descending Event Information
Crevasse: Grace Descending is a type of event wherein players get the chance to build their own fight. Well, sort of.
We get a short list of Codes, Lufenia orbs (or special countdown cards), and Force gauge effects (or force weakness cards) as well as a few quests with set enemies. We can then choose which Codes and such should go on which quests.
Codes refer to rules like âuse at least 1 Green Crystal char on this fightâ or âbring a char who uses a greatsword on this fightâ. The Codes, orbs, and force effects have points associated with them. These points vary depending on how hard it is to fulfill their conditions.
Each quest has a multiplier thatâs based on how difficult it is. After doing a quest with the Codes you specified, you get some points.
You need a total of 525 points in order to get all the rewards from this event. You also canât bring a friend support to any of these quests.
I found this event pretty interesting. It was pretty fun being able to decide what Codes should go with which quest.
Your chars get locked out every time you Perfect a quest so this gave me the chance to use chars that I havenât used in a while. I do wish we got more Codes to choose from though.
Anyway, the Crevasse: Grace Descending event has a total of 6 quests. They are as follows:
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 1 Lufenia+ (level 250) quest
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 2 Lufenia+ quest
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 3 Lufenia+ quest
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 4 Shinryu (level 300) quest
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 5 Shinryu quest
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 6 Shinryu quest
So far, Iâve already cleared the following Crevasse quests:
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 4 Shinryu Quest
My team for this fight was Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Galuf Halm Baldesion from Final Fantasy V, and Jack Garland from Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Cid Rainesâs from Final Fantasy XIII, Yunaâs from Final Fantasy X, and Keissâs from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 43 points. The multiplier for this quest is x2.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 108.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 5 Shinryu Quest
My team for this fight was Machina Kunagiri from Final Fantasy Type-0, Leo Cristophe from Final Fantasy VI, and Gladiolus Amicitia from Final Fantasy XV with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Alisaie Leveilleurâs from Final Fantasy XIV, Lilisetteâs from Final Fantasy XI, and Yunaâs from Final Fantasy X.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 44 points. The multiplier for this quest is x2.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 110.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 6 Shinryu Quest
My team for this fight was Penelo from Final Fantasy XII, Lion from Final Fantasy XI, and Yuna from Final Fantasy X with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Cid Rainesâs from Final Fantasy XIII, Lunafreya Nox Fleuretâs from Final Fantasy XV, and Hope Estheimâs from Final Fantasy XIII.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 48 points. The multiplier for this quest is x2.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 120.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 3 Lufenia+ Quest
For this fight, my team was Lunafreya Nox Fleuret from Final Fantasy XV, Yâshtola Rhul from Final Fantasy XIV, and Keiss from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers with Pandemonium as my summon.
My Calls were Rydiaâs from Final Fantasy IV, Cid Rainesâs from Final Fantasy XIII, and Quistis Trepeâs from Final Fantasy VIII.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 42 points. The multiplier for this quest is x1.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 63.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 2 Lufenia+ Quest
For this fight, my team was Lilisette from Final Fantasy XI, Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI, and Zidane Tribal from Final Fantasy IX with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Seymour Guadoâs from Final Fantasy X, Laguna Loireâs from Final Fantasy VIII, and Rydiaâs from Final Fantasy IV.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 42 points. The multiplier for this quest is x1.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 63.
So far, I now have a total of 464 points.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 3 Lufenia+ Quest
I talk more about this in another post, but I ended up removing my Perfect on the Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 3 Lufenia+ quest.
This time my team for this fight was Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV, Ardyn Izunia (Ardyn Lucis Caelum) from Final Fantasy XV, and Lightning (Claire Farron) from Final Fantasy XIII with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Seymour Guadoâs from Final Fantasy X, Cloud Strifeâs from Final Fantasy VII, and Quistis Trepeâs from Final Fantasy VIII.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 42 points. The multiplier for this quest is x1.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 63. So I still have a total of 464 points so far.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Part 1 Lufenia+ Quest
Also known as Crevasse: Grace Descending Pt. 1. This fight has 1 wave with 2 enemies, the Chimera Golems.
For this fight, my team was Lunafreya Nox Fleuret from Final Fantasy XV (#ad), Yâshtola Rhul from Final Fantasy XIV, and Keiss from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Lilisetteâs from Final Fantasy XI, Rydiaâs from Final Fantasy IV, and Seymour Guadoâs from Final Fantasy X.
Rydiaâs LD Call gives the party a buff that lets them evade 3 attacks. This buff has no turn duration and will only disappear once a char has evaded 3 attacks. Her regular Call gives the party a water enchant buff while also giving the enemies a water imperil debuff.
Seymourâs and Lilisetteâs Calls inflict the enemies with debuffs. Lilisetteâs LD Call can also heal the party. Seymourâs LD Call can also remove the buffs of the enemies and delay them for 2 turns.
The Codes I used for this quest were as follows:
Bring at least 3 Yellow Crystal chars - Lunafreya, Yâshtola, and Keiss fulfills this condition
Bring at least 2 chars who use staves or rods - Lunafreya and Yâshtola fulfills this condition
Bring at least 1 char who uses daggers - Keiss fulfills this condition
Lufenia orb: triggers at the start of the battle and cannot be cancelled
To increase the count of the Lufenia orbs:
Every party member BRV at least 30k after player turn (+4; limit 15)
Player grants party BRV in 1 turn (+2; limit 15)
Every time a char moves, the Lufenia orb count will be decreased by 2. Every time the enemy moves, the Lufenia orb count will be decreased by 2.
Have Yâshtolaâs, Keissâs, and Lunafreyaâs 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD fully MLB. Their Ex weapons have been Purpled.
Lunafreya and Yâshtola also have their Burst weapons. Both have been fully MLB but only Lunafreyaâs has been upgraded to Green or BT+ 3/3.
Lunafreya also has her FR which has been fully MLB. She has her High Armor and itâs been Blued. Keiss and Yâshtola have their High Armors but neither have been Blued.
Everyone has their Bloom Stones and triple perfect Artifacts. Lunafreya has triple real Spheres while Keiss has triple RF Spheres. Yâshtola has no Spheres, real or otherwise.
All of their Summon Boards and Character Enhancement Boards have been completed. Lunafreya also has all of her Force Enhancements while Keiss and Yâshtola donât have any at all.
Yâshtola is boosted for this fight. Keiss is currently equipped with my Level 5 of 5 Dagger Ultima Weapon.
Lunafreya is a really good support slash buffer slash healer. She provides great party-wide buffs and auras. She can imperil enemies and enchant the party with the ice element. She can also deal pretty good damage.
Lunafreya has instant turn rate moves that can quickly charge the force gauge. She can give herself and her allies multiple turns in a row.
Keiss is a support with decent enough buffs and auras but he canât heal. He can give his allies a buff that will enable them to initiate launches every time they move. He can battery the party. He can also manipulate his turn so that he will move right after an ally.
Yâshtola is a support slash healer slash buffer. Sadly, she and Keiss are outdated by now, especially since they donât even have their own Force and Burst weapons yet. Itâs actually been a long time since I last got to use them.
Yâshtola can delay an enemy by 1 turn with one of her moves. She has an instant turn rate move that would have charged the force gauge by a lot if Iâd gotten all of her Force Enhancements. But since she doesnât have any Force Enhancements, she can barely charge the force gauge.
With my party, the Lufenia orbs here werenât an issue at all. Was able to keep the orbs at their max counts easily just by using the skills of my chars.
Since this was only a Lufenia+ quest and since I also have 1 boosted char in my party, started the fight with my force gauge already partially charged so it didnât take that long before it reached 100%.
Unfortunately, the enemies here canât be launched so Keiss wasnât as useful as he could have been. He still dealt pretty good damage though thanks to being equipped with a maxed out Ultima Weapon.
Once my force gauge was fully charged, had Lunafreya activate her FR. By then the Chimera Golems were at 92% HP.
By the time I only have 1 turn of force time left, the HP damage bonus was at 536%. The Chimera Golems were down to 68% and 79% HP.
Upon reaching certain HP percentage thresholds, the enemies here would gain an aura or effect that makes it impossible to delete their turns or delay them, even via break.
This wasnât that much of an issue though since I do have Rydiaâs LD Call for protection. This effect is also dispelled once enough damage has been dealt to the enemies.
When my force gauge was nearing 100% again, had Lunafreya activate her BT+ finisher already. When my force gauge was fully charged, had Luna use her FR again. By now the Golems were down to 49% and 61% HP.
Have 8 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 205% when I went into Lunafreyaâs BT+ mode. The enemies were now down to 43% and 55% HP.
By the time Lunafreya was about to cast Coronal Spark of Life, her finishing Burst+ move, have 2 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 503%. The Golems were now down to 26% and 31% HP.
Lunaâs attack took the Chimeras down to 14% and 20% HP. Now have only 1 turn of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 546%.
Summoned The Brothers already. The on-entry attack of The Brothers took the enemies down to 8% and 13% HP.
Before my summon ended, the Golems were down to 1% and 2% HP. It was currently Yâshtolaâs turn. She gets to move multiple times in a row thanks to the buff from Lunafreya.
IIRC, had her use Afflatus Misery, her special HP attack. This was enough to finish off one of the Golems already. The remaining one was left with 1% HP so Yâshtolaâs next attack was more than enough to finish this one off too, ending the battle on turn 30.
Got the score and all the other mission requirements which also got me the Perfect.
This team did really well. This fight was pretty easy with this team.
The Codes I used on this fight gave me 42 points. The multiplier for this quest is x1.5. So the total points I got from clearing this fight was 63.
Crevasse: Grace Descending Total Points
And thatâs it. Thatâs all of the quests for the Crevasse: Grace Descending event. After completing everything, ended up with a total of 527 points.
So was able to get all the rewards from this event. Really pleased that I was able to get all the rewards for this event.
This type of event was pretty fun. It was nice to be able to sort-of build our own quests. I do wish we got more Codes to choose from though.
Also glad that I was able to get the chance to use multiple different chars in order to clear these quests.
Itâs been a while since I got to use some of these chars so itâs nice to be able to bring them out and add them to my party. Looking forward to the next time weâll get another event like this.
Here are some screenshots from the Quest Overview tab that came with the Crevasse: Grace Descending event:

I love it cause for the longest time my WoL's lore included using Fantasia to transition, and learned to brew them herself. This quest has retroactively changed her from doing DIY hrt to the Eorzean equivalent of running her own meth lab.

I was in the midst of writing up my crackpot theory regarding the SoP-DFFNT connection, when I found something that threw everything into a loop (spoilers for Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise up to DLC 2, by the way):
Ok, so, in DLC 2, one of the many conversations you can have is with a Bomb named Bang. Bang does some snooping into the Lufenians and finds some papers related to Neon. But the interesting bit is where he found them:
The kingdom of Lufenia vanished without a trace. Used to be in a place called The Wing of the Hawk, though. Rumor has it, thereâs a big hole there. Like someone scooped a whole country out and made it go poof. âŚOr like the whole place just up and floated away.
This itself is actually a reference to Dissidia: In the reports, as Cid's wife returns to Lufenia, she realizes that they are trying to use a levistone to lift the entire town:
I arrived in the town on the Hawk's Wing, where my tribe still lived in the middle of a forest. They were trying to use one of my husband's levistones to elevate the whole town in order to escape the shadow that appeared so suddenly.
Keep in mind that both of these conflict with the actual FF1. maybe. Lufenia is on the surface world in FF1, though there is a significant gap of land right next to it. This would imply that the Lufenians: Lifted their town, turned it into the Flying Fortress (or perhaps, it was the fortress itself), got booted out by Tiamat and created a second village right next to it.
Maybe that was obvious and I am a slowpoke for realizing it. In my defense, nothing in the PSP version of FF1 at least alludes to this.
But then comes the other aspect: The war between Lufenia and Cornelia. According to Neon's story, Lufenia was winning the war until they abruptly vanished. In Dissidia, "The state" was losing the war to "the neighboring country" due to their summons and Omega: Which is why the manikin project, more specifically Chaos, was important for the Lufenians to complete. Even then, it's implied that Chaos was unruly, only listening to his mother - which is why Cosmos was created to control Chaos.
After my "crackpot theory on how SoP relates to Dissidia", stay tuned for my followup: "crackpot theory that OG!FF1 and Stranger of Paradise are a split timeline".

THANK YOU
I agree! I frickin love my Highlander WoL whose life has been defined by immigration!
She was born in Gridania by parents who then emigrated to Ilsebard. She grew up in Garlean-occupied Corvos and only ever knew herself as an outsider and outcast, her only friends being a red-eyed cat boy who was spirited away by Sharlayan scholars when they were both young, and a (very brief) forest adventure with a truant crown prince plagued with even more ennui than her.
The closest she came to plying an honest trade was her time as an alchemist in Thavnair, and even that would prove short lived once travel to Eorzea and the demand for foreign mercenaries peaked with the Garlean invasion. She returned to her land of birth to embrace the fraught and violent life of an adventurer because it's the life she thrived on. If she wasn't the Warrior of Light, she'd still be at it to this day instead of traipsing about the New World and beyond right now.
She's Gridanian but counts the grasslands of Corvos as her most cherished childhood memories. She's Eorzean and yet a foreigner. She's Garlean by nationality but with none of the privileges. Even her name has no roots in blood or land; she made it up from the heroic stories she grew up with.
She has no roots that made a difference except for what she could win at sword point.
"Hyur are so boring, why would you play a human in a fantasy game?"
Fine. Whatever. You find the idea of playing a human boring. But I'm kind of getting sick of people saying this to me, a hyur enjoyer, sometimes even directly under my own screenshots of my OCs.
Hyur in FFXIV are a *wildly* fascinating take on the "humans in a fantasy setting" that we often see in video games. They're an almost complete subversion of "humans are the dominant culture that everyone assimilates into and also they did a colonialism at some point, which is why their language is The Common One".
Meanwhile, hyur in ffxiv? They're MIGRANTS.
They're NOT the dominant culture. Are they the most numerous population in a lot of places? Sure. Because they have kids out the wazoo, but I digress. Hyur in ffxiv are defined by their adaptability and willingness to assimilate. They're *so* defined by adaptability that there are at least three major historical events throughout the astral and umbral eras called "The Great Hyur Migration". Hyur only arrived in Ishgard after the dragonsong war had started and you'd be hard pressed to find any modern Hyur born and raised in Ishgard who would define themself as anything *other* than Ishgardian. Their names may be slightly different than Ishgardian elezen, but I would theorize that might just come down to class dynamics as while hyuran noble houses exist, they're not common. However in Hingashi they've completely assimilated into eastern Raen culture, as an example. I actually hesitate to find any place we know ingame to be completely dominated by hyur, because in Gridania despite the elementals picking hyur to be padjal the culture seems to be most influenced by wildwood elezen, and in ala mhigo while hyur are the most populous of demographics, the entire culture seems to be a marriage of hellsguard and miqo'te. Ul'dah is clearly highly influenced by lalafell above all, and limsa lominsa is heavily developed by the sea wolf roegadyn. Hyur just kind of fit themselves in and adapt to what everyone around them is doing.
So why is the language spoken by all the peoples in Eorzea the same? Isn't that the hyuran language? Nope! It's pretty explicitly said that the common language is a pidgin tongue that was deliberately developed by merchants and was adopted widespread out of convenience. They even say that Tural took inspiration from this in developing their own (and it's only coincidentally similar enough that your party can understand it with minimal language barrier, funnily enough. That's a hilarious way to handwave 'eh, game mechanics' tbh).
Anyway hyurs are really cool and I really want to see more people appreciating them for the interesting lore they do have and also exploring this concept more. Like making their hyurs naturally predisposed to learning multiple languages for example.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Dark Quickening Lufenia Quest
Lufenia Quests are currently the hardest kind of fight in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game. Theyâre level 200.
Dark Quickening (Story Act 3, Chapter 3, Part 1) Lufenia Quest
For this fight, my team was Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII (#ad), Kadaj from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and Galuf Halm Baldesion from Final Fantasy V with Odin as my summon.
My Calls were Bartz Klauserâs from Final Fantasy V, Faris Scherwizâs (Sarisa Scherwil Tycoon) from Final Fantasy V, and Gabranthâs (Noah fon Ronsenburg) from Final Fantasy XII.
The Dark Quickening Lufenia quest has 1 wave with 2 enemies - Chaos Bahamut and an Ealdânarche (from Final Fantasy XI) Manikin. Both heavily resist magical attacks and theyâre immune to elemental resist down.
Thereâs only 1 Lufenia orb and itâs on Chaos Bahamut. To increase it, you need to inflict break.
When Bahamut drops below 49% HP, the orb disappears and he changes into his Gestalt form. Heâll now have a recast bar. If you prevent him from being able to act for 2 turns (such as by paralyzing him), then he wonât be able to use his recast ability.
Tifa, Kadaj, and Galuf are fully MLB and Purple, including their LD. They have their Bloom Stones and all of their Boards have been completed. They're equipped with their High Armors, all of which have been upgraded to Blue.
Kadaj has 3 ATK 108 with Remnant Upâ
â
(While Latent Thoughts active: Raises own MAX BRV, ATK by 5%) Artifacts.
Tifa has 3 ATK 108 with MAX BRV 330 Artifacts. Galuf has 3 ATK 108 with Buff Attack Upâ
â
(Raises ATK by 5% with active buffs) Artifacts.
Galuf is equipped with the following real Spheres:
Eightâs (from Final Fantasy Type-0) Evasion Attack Up Shorter A Sphere
Raises own ATK by 20% for 3 turns when evading enemy attack *Does not stack with same sphere
Galuf Halm Baldesionâs (from Final Fantasy V) Evasion Attack Up Longer B Sphere
When dodging attack: ⢠Raises ATK by 10% for 6 turns
Wakkaâs (from Final Fantasy X) Buff Attack Boost All 5 D Sphere
With 5 or more buffs: ⢠Raises partyâs MAX BRV, ATK by 5% *Does not stack with same sphere
Kadaj is equipped with the following real Spheres:
Garlandâs (from Final Fantasy I) Break Hit Raging Attack Up A Sphere
Raises ATK by 2% when inflicting Break or attacking target afflicted with Break up to 5 times, once per turn
Oerba Yun Fangâs (from Final Fantasy XIII) Break Hit Attack Up Longer A Sphere
Raises ATK by 10% for 6 turns when inflicting Break or attacking target afflicted with Break
The Emperorâs (from Final Fantasy II) Debuff Success Attack Up Longer E Sphere
Raises own ATK by 10% for 6 turns when inflicting debuff on target
Tifa is equipped with the following real Spheres:
Shadowâs (from Final Fantasy VI) Single Critical Attack Up Longer A Sphere
Raises ATK by 10% for 6 turns when dealing critical hit to single target
Leo Cristopheâs (from Final Fantasy VI) Single Power A Sphere
When attacking single target: ⢠Increases BRV damage dealt by 10%
Lyse Hextâs (from Final Fantasy XIV) Break Hit Attack All Longer D Sphere
After inflicting Break or attacking target afflicted with Break: ⢠Raises partyâs ATK by 5% for 6 turns
For this fight, I decided to go with Tifa, Kadaj, and Galuf because I really wanted to use the first 3 chars who I Blued together on the same team. Kadaj was my first Blue followed by Galuf and then Tifa.
Was kinda worried about doing this though because none of them have a Burst weapon.
For Lufenia quests, I almost always have at least 1 char with a BT even if itâs just from a support char like Paladin Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV or even if itâs from kinda outdated chars like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII and Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII.
In fact, canât quite remember the last time I did a Lufenia fight without at least 1 BT char. So wasnât sure if Iâd be able to get the win with this team. Nevertheless, wanted to try so decided to go for it.
Another thing that kinda worried me was the fact that I didnât have anyone who could break and rebreak Bahamut to take care of the orb. All I could do was wait for him to get out of his broken state then break him again.
But I soon found that it wasnât that bad because the count starts at 15 and itâs increased by 7 every time you break Bahamut. Plus I only had to deal with the orb until I manage to get Bahamut down to 49% HP.
Thereâs no one on my team who has a BT weapon and none of them are boosted or synergy for this fight but they all did very well anyway. Was really super impressed with them. They all contributed to the fight.
Tifa dealt amazing damage. Kadaj debuffed the enemies and also helped deal damage. Galuf provided lots of battery as well as pretty great auras and buffs. He also protected his allies from all single target attacks and, with the appropriate buffs up, he countered and dealt off-turn damage to the enemies.
To illustrate just how super special awesome this team was, just take a look at the screenshot below.
Iâm only on turn 4 and yet Bahamut was already down to 79% HP while the Manikin was at 87% HP.
Speaking of Bahamutâs current HP threshold, when he gets down to 79% HP, he gains a lot of brave (he would have gained a lot more if not for Kadajâs brave sap and steal) and, until you break him, your chars will deal 1 brave damage.
Made sure that Kadajâs Ex ability, Divinity, was charged for this. Divinity sets the brave of all enemies to 0 then deals a brave + HP attack so Kadaj was able to easily get rid of Bahamutâs brave charge.
For my friend support, was debating on whether to borrow Tifa or Garland from Final Fantasy I.
In the end, I went with Tifa since I didnât have anyone to keep the enemies from moving which would severely gimp Garlandâs BT effect. Well, he could delay both enemies for now but once Bahamut switches into his Gestalt mode, he can no longer be delayed and his turns canât be deleted either.
Anyway, I switched out my Tifa for the support Tifa that I borrowed when Bahamut was at around 76% HP. Wanted to get Bahamut down to 49% HP ASAP to get rid of the orb so I wouldnât have to worry about it anymore.
The support Tifa who I borrowed also had her High Armor upgraded to Blue. So it didnât take that long before Bahamut switched into his Gestalt form.
When he did, his HP went back to 100%, the Lufenia orb disappeared, his recast gauge showed up and it was filled to the max, and he removed all of his debuffs.
Well, all of his debuffs except for Kadajâs gold-framed ones. And, as aforementioned, Bahamutâs turns could no longer be delayed so he now has spikes on his turn icon.
Didnât have any way of keeping Bahamut from acting. Had no way of paralyzing him and such so he was able to get a turn and he fired off his recast ability.
Itâs a group brave + HP attack which took everyone down to around half of their HP or thereabouts. It âignores effects that reduce, nullify BRV, HP damageâ and is guaranteed to hit so not even Galuf can dodge this attack.
Really glad that my chars were able to survive Bahamutâs recast ability attack. The debuffs helped. It was also good that Bahamut didnât dispel anyoneâs buffs.
Unfortunately, wasnât able to get the support Tifa back to full health before she left the field.
When Bahamut was down to 76% HP and the Manikin was at 68% HP, summoned Odin.
It was Kadajâs turn. Galufâs Cover buff on him was about to run out and he was being targeted by Bahamut and the Manikin was targeting All so I didnât want to risk him not having any protection, especially since he wasnât back to full health yet.
Everyone managed to get a lot of brave during the summon which was really nice to see.
Just continued spamming everyoneâs skills. Bahamutâs and the Manikinâs HP kept on decreasing. Too bad I wasnât able to beat Bahamut before he could fire off his recast ability again.
His attack took Tifaâs HP down to the red. Kadaj was left at around half of his HP again. Galufâs HP actually went to 0. Welp, if it wasnât for his LD buff, he would have been dead by now.
Now I found myself worrying that I wonât be able to get everyone back to full health before the fight ended because Bahamut was now down to 7% HP while the Manikin was at 50% HP.
Continued spamming skills. Soon, Bahamut was at 1% HP while Tifa and Galuf had gotten back a bit of their health.Â
It was Tifaâs turn. Her HP Attack (Full Throttle) finished off Bahamut.
Now only the Manikin, who was at 47% HP, was left. He wasnât that much of a threat, really, especially with Galuf dodging and countering his single target attacks.
Soon, Kadaj only had 1 more use of his LD, Burial Hour, left. He still has 4 uses of Volley and 5 uses of Mayhem. He has no more uses of his Additional Ability (AA).
Used his first AA on Bahamut. When Bahamut transformed into his Gestalt form, had Kadaj use his AA on the Manikin to switch the target of his follow-up attacks.
Read somewhere that, for some reason, Kadajâs follow-up attack triggers Bahamutâs counter.
Bahamut counters all magical attacks unless heâs paralyzed or otherwise unable to move. But Kadajâs follow-up isnât magic so Bahamut shouldnât be countering him.
Saw a video where it happened though. When Bahamut counters, he also dispels his targetâs buffs. To prevent this from happening, I just had Kadaj switch his follow-upâs target to the Manikin since the Manikin also needed to be defeated anyway.
When the Manikin was down to 30% HP, it was also turn 30 and Galufâs turn. He was down to 2 uses of Dawn Katana, his LD. He still has 2 uses of Shirahadori+ and 6 uses of Cover+.
Used his own AA so he could restore more of his HP. Only used his Cover+ skill like once or twice or so. It wasnât really needed since he could apply the Cover buff to his allies via his LD ability. Cover+ does battery though so it wasnât that bad even if it didnât deal damage.
Also used Tifaâs AA to help her get back to full health. Used the last of her LD, Meteor Crusher. She still has 9 uses of Beat Rush+ and 1 use of Battle Cry left.
After using the last of her Meteor Crusher, the Manikin was down to 11% HP. Used her HP Attack (Full Throttle) for the instant turn rate and free skill. Her Battle Cry ability brought the Manikin down to 4% HP.
Tifaâs Ex ability, Dolphn Blow Combo, was charged so decided to use that to initiate a launch. This finished the fight on turn 33.
Had 6,361 HP lost thanks to being unable to heal the friend support Tifa that I borrowed. Thankfully, still managed to get the score as well as all the other mission requirements.
Really super pleased with this team. Everyone contributed and did very well. Looks like it was perfectly fine even if there was no one with a Burst weapon on my party.
Is this the power of an all-Blue lineup? LOL. Would love to be able to use this team again on another Lufenia fight.

Dissidia/SoP correction
TL;DR: I was wrong about the identity of "the State" in the Dissidia reports.
In this post, I had mentioned that Lufenia is presumably "the state" or "the homeland" that Cid and his wife worked for, which dovetails nicely into Stranger suggesting that a war broke out between Lufenia and Cornelia. But then I read the Reports again:
We originate from a tribe that inherits memories through ceremony. The knowledge and skills in my husband were inherited as well. I had intended to use the teleportation device as part of our escape, but decided to use it to return to my tribe. I felt the need to pass on my memories even if I were to die there and then. I arrived in the town on the Hawk's Wing, where my tribe still lived in the middle of a forest. They were trying to use one of my husband's levistones to elevate the whole town in order to escape the shadow that appeared so suddenly. (Inherited Memories -6-)
From the way Cid's wife speaks of it, Lufenia was not the 'homeland' that they worked for. It sounds more like they left and integrated into another nation (which explains why I previously thought that it wasn't Lufenia: because it wasn't). It's not just this report either. One of the other reports specifies a "Lufenian scientist" to help with the memory transfer process:
Mass-production of simulated life based on crystal ore successful. We name them manikins. But still no sign of will. Employing help of a capable Lufenian scientist to attempt transplanting memory facsimiles. (From A Researcher's Notes -01-)
And Cosmos is specified to be based on a "Lufenian female":
Complete memory removal and transplant to simulated life successful for first time. Named Cosmos to signify order. Subject is Lufenian female. Study undisclosed to subject. Scientist claims to be an unclouded mind, but how this can be determined is unknown. (From a Researcher's Notes -02-)
(So, did Cid never tell his wife that he made a manikin of her until she found out about it or...?)
Based on the wording used in these cases, I have concluded that while the FF1 world was embroiled in war according to Dissidia, Lufenia does not seem to have been involved outside of Cid & his wife. This is in contrast to SoP, where it is implied that the supposed war between Lufenia and Cornelia that Neon mentions actually happened.
On a tangentially related note, one of the few things that I couldn't find a clean explanation for (and thus one of the few cases I acknowledged the Jack = Dissidia!Garland concept holds weight) is how Garland got to World B. In hindsight, however, I suspect it has something to do with the rift that Chaos opened. As implicated by the woman in the report, the research facility where Chaos opened the rift to World B appears to be the same place as the Chaos Shrine and these events are implied to have taken place at a close enough point that Garland would eventually arrive. This theory isn't perfect, but it's the only hint the game gives as to how Garland ended up on World B.

And the most fucked up part? She disappears from the game following the surrender of the other legions, and Quintus' suicide. đĽş
Not only do I remember Octavia [x], I added her to my WoL's lore in the Praetorium. Back when it was an 8-man dungeon, there were a LOT more mobs to fight, and they always fell like paper by the dozens. During the magitek riding segment, the whole team would always blow their way past the opposing mobs of soldiers/other magitek without pausing. I was always at the front.
One room always had this one soldier off to the side that would avoid the initial barrage from the players at the front. So I always wound up running right past them to the door. I'm sure in reality they get blown up by the 7 other players lagging behind, but I never see it by the time I reach the door to the next area. So, I've head canon'd that lone soldier as Octavia, surviving the WoL's rampage by being beneath her notice.
And then they come face to face four years later (I advance the timeline by a year per expansion, two for Stormblood, and Shadowbringers was a year on the First but a few months on the Source) and because of the Echo, Alice recognizes that they've met before, in the briefest of passing glances. Needless to say it's awkward as hell.
I find it baffling when people get so precious with their WoLs, that everything they do is Just and Right at all times, that they've somehow gone through this whole game only killing when necessary, when your on-screen body count hits triple digits by the end of A Realm Reborn alone, and then get offended when the game implies that maybe they should reflect on that fact.
Especially if you ship your WoL and Haurchefant, and get teary-eyed whenever the game references him, you have NO business dismissing that same pain they've caused in countless others. Why do you insist that their enemies have to earn their redemption or face no mercy, but balk at a member of the faceless badguy army declaring she'll never forgive them?
One of the themes I used when creating Alice, and which has held true throughout the lore I build for her, is that a video game protagonist will almost by necessity have a warped sense of morality, if any at all, when they've earned each happy ending per installment from atop a pile of corpses.
No matter how good their intentions, or noble the outcome, that weight on the soul can't be brushed off so easily. They'll suffer ptsd, experience depression, memory loss, dissociate, and struggle to maintain relationships. All of this and more plagues Alice in every incarnation she has (currently in ffxiv as the WoL, and bg3 as the Dark Urge)
In the end what saves her from becoming a monsterâwhether it's letting Esteem take over, or in bg3, giving in to the Urgeâare the connections she makes along the way despite all of it. For all their differences, the Scions are her friends, and their passions and principles have become hers. She's even been able to connect with Zenos, both of them abandoning their self-imposed roles of Hero and Villain, respectively, and accepting the other as they are, flaws and all. Without them, she would be lost.
Thus, when confronted by Octavia, the least she can do is quietly accept that she won't be forgiven or thanked by this person, and let it be.
The power of friendship may not give literal super powers (outside of Ultima Thule), but empathy can be learned, and making and keeping friends will teach it.
That's my real life belief.
Do you remember that NPC in Garlemald who, when you approach them, seems to have war flashbacks to the WoL killing dozens of their fellow soldiers at the Praetorium? I don't understand why some people make light of this moment, or brush aside the fact that in canon the WoL has killed a lot of people. Yes, it's usually Garlean soldiers or Beastmen or others who intend to harm others, and it's almost always in the name of justice, freedom, protecting others, the greater good, etc. But they do still take lives.
Chances are some of those soldiers they've killed are ones who believed the Empire's espoused goal of controlling the world in order to protect it from greater threats like Primals and Ascians. It's a disgusting and patronizing idea, but if you're someone who's grown up in a war-like nation you might have no reason to question it. Hell, Varis believes it wholeheartedly even though Emet-selch repeatedly tells him that he founded the Empire only as a trigger for Calamities and Rejoinings. The thing is that the Garleans believe they're doing the "right thing" too. So do the Ascians, if only for the "greater good" of their own people to the exlcusion of everything and everyone else. And everything that the Garleans and Ascians did in the name of their beliefs and greater good is wrecked by Fandaniel and Zenos, who proudly claim not to believe in anything and scorn ideas of right and wrong.
In the end, what makes you "the hero" and them "the villains" - what, if anything, makes you better than them? It's not that you don't kill or harm people, because you do. It's not just that you kill presumably less than they do, because measuring lives as numbers is a disgusting thing. We could say that it's simply because the narrative always sides with you in the end, but that's a really boring and unsatisfying answer.
The answer for me and my WoL at least, is to understand that he's not so different from his enemies. Having a "good reason" to kill doesn't make you justified, and believing you're on the right side of history doesn't make you the hero - that understanding itself is what makes sure that he won't make the same mistakes as the villains.
