After you cheated to help your tribute, Lucy Gray, you were banished to none other than District 12. Well, at first it was said to be 11, but you bribed the Peacekeeper’s with the remaining money you had.
At least in banishment you could attempt to find your songbird.
It was quite upsetting at first when you heard the news, mainly because you had to leave your friends behind, Coriolanus and Sejanus. Your family didn’t care much for you, and you felt the same about them.
But you didn’t have much to loose, so you were content with the decision— even if life in the Districts was very different than what you had previously known.
The first week, you didn’t see a glimpse of the brunette, but you were also extremely busy with settling in. You got a small apartment and a job as a nurse for the Peacekeepers.
It wasn’t until Saturday night when you were invited by some random girl from work to the local pub, known as the Hob. Needing some liquid courage you decided why not and tagged along.
But the second you stepped into those doors and heard that all-too familiar beautiful voice singing, your heart damn near stopped.
You can’t take my charm,
You can’t take my humor.
You can’t take my wealth, ‘cause it’s just a rumor.
Nothing you can take was ever worth keeping,
No, nothing you can take was ever worth keeping.
She sung the same song she did the first time you saw her, the smile on your face only growing as she came into view. You continued your walk throughout the crowd, splitting off with the people you came with to get closer to the girl.
Thinkin’ your so fine, thinkin’ you can have mine.
Thinkin’ your in control, think you’ll change me,
Maybe rearrange me, think again if that’s your goal!
She smiled brightly as she strummed her guitar for the intermission, as when she turned her eyes fell onto you. Shock was obvious on her face, the girl almost stopping the strumming of her guitar by it. The wide eyes she had were replaced with smiling ones as it sank in. You sent a small wave and a nod her way, the girl’s smiling only growing as she ran back up to the mic.
Can’t take my sass, can’t talk my talkin’.
You can kiss my ass, then keep on walkin’.
Nothing you could take was ever worth keepin’.
Oh, nothin’ you could take was ever worth keepin’.
She sang her heart out, her eyes and that smile never leaving your gaze.
Nothing you could take from me is worth dirt.
Take it, ‘cause I’d give it free, it won’t hurt.
Nothing you could take was ever worth keepin’.
No, nothing you could take was ever worth keepin’.
Her and the Covey Band finished the song with cheers and claps erupting from the crowd, more specifically, you.
“Thank you, 12, for another night.” She bowed, nodding before leaving the stage.
You followed her with your gaze, shuffling through the crowd in an attempt to get to her. After a moment of shoving and apologizing, you finally got backstage.
You walked through the corridor. “Lucy Gray?” You called, cautious with your steps. You nearly jumped out of your skin when she jumped on your back.
She let out giggles at your yelp, smiling against your hair as she left kisses on your neck and shoulders. The feeling of her lips on your skin sent tingles down your spine as you remembered the kisses you shared through fences in the moonlight.
“Y/N!” She smiled, jumping off your back to properly hug you. She pulled your into her arms, her head going into the crook of your neck.
“Hi,” You whispered as she pulled back, a smile on her face.
“I thought I’d never see you again, oh, I thought they killed you. That’s what the rumors around here said.” Her southern drawl mixed with her concern pulled a smile out of you.
“I’m okay, they just banished me here.” You explained, you hand coming up to rub her worry lines away with your thumb. She smiled at the action, her hand rubbing your arm lovingly. “Other than a few punches, they treated me well. Bribed ‘em into putting me in twelve, y’know I had to come back for my songbird.” You brushed some hair behind her ear.
She turned a light shade of pink at the nickname you gave to her the first time you met at the train station. “How long are you stayin’?”
“Forever, I guess.” You shrugged. “I don’t really have anyone else to go back to, really. My parents pretty much disobeyed me, and all I had at the Capitol were Coryo and Sejanus.”
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” She grabbed your hand, squeezing.
“It’s alright, bird. I’m with you, that makes it okay.” You teased, smiling.
She stared into your eyes for a moment, her honey eyes flickering down to your lips. Without a word, she turned on her heel, her hand still laced with yours and pulled you into a small room.
You followed with furrowed eyebrows, opening your mouth to say something, but the second the door closed you were pinned to it, her lips on yours.
You moaned against her lips in shock, your hands coming up to cup her cheeks, deepening the kiss. Her hands squeezed your hips as she smiled against your lips. When you pulled back for air, the smile never left her face.
“I missed you, so much.” She whispered. “I can’t wait to introduce you to the Covey, they’re gonna love you.”
Your thumb rubbed against the scar on her cheekbone. “I can’t wait either, bird.”
She left another kiss on your lips before turning on her heel, and running to the corner, rummaging through a chest on the floor.
You walked over to the middle of the room, a love-sick smile on your face as you watched the girl.
She turned back to you with the same rose you gave her all those weeks ago in the train station, a mischievous glint in her eye. When she was eye to eye with you, she presented it with a curtesy.
“Y/N, will you give me the honorable title of your girlfriend?” She asked, a teasing smile on her face with a serious tone in her voice.
“Why, yes, Ms. Baird, I would love to.” You accepted the rose, your cheeks dusted pink as she ran forward to connect your lips again, giggling.
Your heart was full as you held your songbird, love being shared in your kiss. Yeah, you thought, I’m gonna be okay here.
And in the arms of your lover, nothing could hurt you anymore.

I ❤️ Lucy Gray
Lucy Gray Baird x Fem! Reader (headcanons, fluff, romantic)
Tumblr media
She is likely the type of person to not care if someone is a man or a woman. If she likes you, you're around her age, and you're kind, you might as well date
Before dating, she was very willing to drop hints. If there was a sign of interest you had in her, she took the opportunity
After dating, she is just as sweet as before, a bit toned down but still loving
Lucy Gray expects you to go to her shows, all of them if you can
Piggybacking off the last one, she'll write songs for and about you. They'll be ballads talking about your kindness and the things you give her
Roses are some of her favorite gifts, she loves the taste and they always smell good. Another good option is handmade gifts, letters, poems, hell, food is all she adores
If you give her poems, she is very willing to turn them into songs. But only sings them for you since they're special
She has sung to you and played the guitar for you. But in a cool way
She NEEDS to feel like she can trust you. She couldn't trust Billy Taupe and she couldn't trust anyone in the arena, so you still have time to prove to her that you're trustworthy
After the Games, violence was an absolute no in her life (it was a no before but it's absolute after everything). If you find a way to bring that brutality back into her life, she'll leave as quickly as she had come
If you get her gifts that are a bit expensive, she'll send you some goat cheese for free!
__
To all that have requested before this post was, I’m working on several longer fanfics and plan to release the headcanons first then the full fanfics when I finish them!!

something holy
lucy gray baird x female reader
Lucy Gray Baird has had you under her spell the entire time you’ve known her. She’s a creature not of this world, something gorgeous, something holy.
3k words, fluff, mild angst
Tumblr media
Lucy Gray Baird is the sweetest girl you know.
You’ve known her for a while, now, but you’ve known of her for even longer. You’ve only ever lived in District Twelve, a Seam girl born and bred, but you remember more vividly than anything that colourful day the Covey were rounded up and forced to settle in your home. Even then, you felt a draw to them. Sure, everyone was intrigued by them, even more so once they stepped into the spotlight and made a name for themselves. You knew you weren’t special, you were one of many in a crowd of admirers, but that didn’t stop you from wanting to know them. You wanted to know the dark-haired girl your age, who you’d occasionally glimpse through a crowd or across a plaza. This hunger, barely sated by scraps of fleeting encounters across the span of years, would only grow with age.
Twelve is the district furthest from the Capitol, and it’s the most neglected, to be blunt — it still has the lowest Peacekeeper to population ratio in the entirety of Panem. A blessing in disguise, you consider it, but it often renders the Seam a relatively lawless place. When the Covey arrived, the best part of a decade ago, it was even worse. The Covey kids were never forced to attend Capitol-mandated schooling in the way that the rest of the Seam kids were because they weren’t really Twelve. They didn’t really didn’t bother anyone, for the most part, and so long as that remained the case there were more important rules to be enforced elsewhere.
For the first few years of their inhabiting a crumbling little red-brick cottage at the edge of the Seam, overlooking the woods, the Covey were like daylight ghosts around town. They wove flowers into each other’s braids every morning, wore long billowy clothes even in the coldest winter snow and communicated more through melody, or strange noises, than they did words. (For a good few years of your childhood, you’d stumble down to their ends of town once a week to offer clumsy good-wish bundles of flowers and herbs, and even ribbons when you could get your hands on them. You’d be met with wide smiles or hummed tunes or, towards the end of this practice, even a beamed thank you, sweetness from Lucy Gray herself, but nothing more, and so eventually you stopped.)
At night, though, they were ghosts no longer; they’d come alive, lighting up the whole Hob with foot-stomping tavern thrashers. As you grew older, more capable, and still more captivated by them, you found yourself more and more often in attendance. That’s how you ended up meeting her; a fight broke out in the pit one night. You were close to the stage as could be, how you were whenever you got the chance, and in a whirlwind of movement and noise you found yourself caught up in the conflict. A pitcher of ale ended up being emptied onto you and you yelped as the lukewarm amber seeped into your dress, whilst its former owner cursed the loss of his drink and angrily swung the empty pitcher at the head of the whoever knocked him into you. The music halted as chaos ensued, and you scrambled to escape.
“Alright, y’all, that’s enough,” said a forceful voice from the stage, a voice you’d recognise anywhere. “You want to fight, you can go outside t’do it, I hear there’s a hell of an audience in uniform out there too.”
Billy Taupe, by this point the size of a man with the broad shoulders to show for it, set down his accordion and leapt down from the stage, forcefully breaking up the conflict, with the lean Tam Amber quick to follow. You were practically swept up onto the stage, and in an effort to de-escalate Lucy Gray reached out her hands to lift you up and into safety. She was stronger than she looked, and you marvelled at the moment, surely gaping like a fool.
“Learn to behave, folks,” she playfully chastised the crowd as Billy Taupe and Tam Amber wrestled two men out the door. You stood stiff as a board beside her, still dripping head to toe. “I’m’na give you ten, and when I get back y’all better have sorted yourselves, alright?” She jabbed a finger playfully at no one in particular before wrapping an arm around your shoulders and guiding you backstage, Maude Ivory and Barb Azure hot on your heels.
“Are you alright, sweetheart?” she asked you the moment you were out the crowd’s earshot, “we been watching that whole thing —”
“— they nasty out there tonight,” chimed in Maude Ivory.
“— sure we got an old dress o’ Lucy Gray’s milling around somewhere, get you outta that thing,” Barb Azure offered kindly.
“— come here, into the light, poor thing, are you hurt? Let me see it,” Lucy Gray fretted. Seeing your features properly for the first time under the flickering of the oil fixture on the wall, she paused. “I know you.”
“I been here before,” you offered, finally summoning the courage to speak.
“No,” Lucy Gray mused, “you… you done used to bring us flowers, didn’t you?”
You froze, flushing. “Guess I did. Didn’t think you’d remember.”
“Aw hey now, I’d never forget a pretty thing like you,” she scolded you. Your cheeks burned with colour the same shade as her lips. “Why’d you ever stop? We used t’love your visits.”
“She ain’t kidding,” added Barb Azure, eyes twinkling, “Lu would doll up real early on Sundays and wait around for you.”
“Oh, shut it, you big grass,” Lucy Gray muttered, dark eyes never leaving your face. Your breath caught in your throat. “Look, we ain’t sending you back out there. How’s about we’ll find you somethin’ to change into and you’ll sit pretty with us, alright, sweet thing? What’s your name, baby?”
After that night, she kept finding reasons to be near you. Despite the draw you felt to the Covey you were scared stiff of bothering them. You’d rather die than cause them any trouble. But you and Lucy Gray, and then the whole Covey, fell into a close friendship so quickly you couldn’t help but wonder if that feeling was mutual. For a while they would tentatively invite you to picnics at the lake or bonfires in their back garden, but once they found out you could play the pan flute you were as good as one of them.
Lucy Gray began to consume your every waking thought. Lucy Gray, Lucy Gray, Lucy Gray. It’s been the same old for a good few years now. You spend every moment you can with her, whether that’s taming snakes or catching butterflies or whispering to each other late at night. She’s hardened like brandy and fiery inside, and you preen hopelessly under the light she casts on you. Lucy Gray Baird is what makes the world go round.
Yeah, she’s the sweetest girl you know. And, unbeknownst to you, she’s sweeter than ever on you.
The Covey are a superstitious people. There’s nothing they’ll heed more attentively than the whisper of fate. Lucy Gray doesn’t remember much from her childhood pre-Twelve, but she remembers when her momma would try to teach her how to see future in the way that the earth breathed. She knows to pay heed to the shape that the tea leaves at the bottom of her mug take, and where the first drop of rain falls. Everything, everything, including her heart, pushes her to you. She’s sure of it. It’s something bigger than her that connects the two of you, something cosmic, something holy. She’ll count bluebells on her walk to you — she loves me, she loves me not — and take note of the birds in the sky. She spells out love confessions to you in the chords of her guitar. She whispers poems into your morning tea before she brings it to you, careful hands cradling a mug full of love.
She knows it’s the string of fate that’s drawn her in to you. Why, why else would her family end up in Twelve?
Barb Azure teases her endlessly for the affections she harbours, and Lucy Gray will swat away her cousin with flaming cheeks and hiss half-baked threats but she’ll never deny it. There’s no denying it. There’s no denying the love she has for you, more certain than anything. She knows she loves you like she knows that the sun smiles in the sky. She’ll do anything to be around you.
“What’re you gonna do about it?” Barb Azure asks her casually one warm summer’s evening. The two are side by side in the little stone kitchen of the Covey cottage, occasionally brushing elbows as they chop vegetables in unison. It’s a comforting touch, domestic, homely. Golden-pink sun streams in through the mottled windows, and Lucy Gray basks in it like a snake. The back door is pinned open so that the children, and the strange shaggy dog Clerk Carmine’s brought home, and Maude Ivory’s goat can all trot in and out as they please. In the distance, she can see you all playing, wrestling, giggling freely, hear CC’s shrieking melodious laughter. Lucy Gray’s so at peace in this moment that she forgets she’s been asked a question.
Barb Azure’s bare foot nudges her shin gently. “Lu. What’ll you do? ‘Bout her?”
She shrugs. “Same thing I’ve always done. Keep on loving her, and take what I can get.” She seems perfectly at peace with it, and Barb Azure sighs.
“You’ll get a whole lot more if you tell her how you feel,” she chastises.
“Why, and ruin a perfectly good thing?” Lucy Gray retorts, elusive, half-mirthful, a twinkle in her eye but a weight to her words. “No, I don’t think I will, Barb Azure.”
“Aw, hold your tongue now,” Barb Azure grumbles, “cause it’ll be this old dog who’s wipin’ your tears when the belle finds someone else.” She nudges Lucy Gray good-naturedly before moving over to the stove, but Lucy Gray stays frozen, blood running cold. She hasn’t even thought of that, but it’s true, you could find someone else. Who, she wonders? What kind of person would you go for? You’ve been one of the Covey for years, you eat here and sleep here and make music with them and the rest of it, and you don’t really talk to anyone else. Would you go for one of the boys? Tam Amber, or Billy Taupe? The thought of anyone else all up on you like that makes her shiver. She can live with never being able to have you, she’s done it this far, but she’s not sure she’d handle it if someone else could.
The thought weighs heavy on her mind, and she’s quiet for the rest of the night.
It’s only a handful of days after that you’re out gathering berries with some of the others. Lucy Gray comes with for a while, but she’s not really there, she’s not herself, and after finding a few wild apricots she feebly murmurs about going home to pit them. You watch with concern but she’s gone before you can say otherwise, walking off with her head lowered, and you decide to respect her wish to be alone.
You try to ignore the loss of her at your side as you laugh and joke with the others. You never feel content when you’re not with her, though — she’s the only one who can soothe your temples and still your thoughts.
“You okay, Y/N? You been starin’ at that bush for the better part o’ four minutes,” grins Tam Amber.
“Nay, she’s just mopin’. Gets all moony when she’s away from her Lu,” CC butts in, before tossing a blackberry into the air and catching it in his mouth.
“My Lu?” you ask, caught off guard.
“Well, yeah. So much pinin’ you could build your own forest.”
“I ain’t— I don’t pine for no one,” you tell him shakily.
He just shrugs. “Coulda fooled me. You been lookin at Lucy Gray like she hung the stars in the sky since day one.”
You frown, mulling his words over. Is that true? You love Lucy Gray, more than anything, but it’s never really occurred to you that your love for her could be like that. Sure, she’s the prettiest girl you’ve ever met, you’d do anything for her. She’s so kind, so gentle and sweet, but she’s so quick and so fiery. She has a fierce wit to her that’ll send you rolling and reeling in equal measures. She’s always, always on your mind. Sure, your mind goes straight to her when you hear a love song, but— oh no.
“I think you broke her,” Billy Taupe observes.
“I’m, uhm,” you feel your palms grow clammy as you’re overwhelmed with the need for a moment to yourself, “I’ll head back home, and— and start sorting through this,” you look down at your half-filled basket and begin to hurry away. No one stops you, but you feel eyes on you long after you’ve rounded the corner.
You’re a mess. Your hands are shaking, your eyes blurry, your mind spinning as you grapple with this newfound information. You’re in love with Lucy Gray. It’s so obvious that the kids have clocked it before you. God, you’re so stupid. Of course friends don’t love each other like this. You don’t feel this way about Barb Azure or Tam Amber. This could ruin everything, if you ever let it escape you. No, you determine resolutely, you are not going to ruin the only family you’ve ever had. Having Lucy Gray in your life at all is something so impossibly holy that you refuse point blank to risk ever losing it. You will not lose the Covey. You’ll take this to the grave.
Your feet have carried you home before you know it, and you stumble into the kitchen, panting. There are tears streaming down your face, you realise, and you shakily wipe them away only for more to appear.
“Y/N?” says a soft voice at the door, one you love more than anything, and you look up to see the girl you’re agonising about. Annoyingly, you want nothing more than to crawl into her arms. “Hey, baby, you okay?”
“M’fine,” you murmur, hastily brushing away more tears, but she’s stepping towards you with outstretched arms, and then you’re in them and you’re safe.
“Shhh, sh sh sh,” she soothes you, guiding you into the room you share with her, running her fingers through your hair. “What is it, sweet girl, what’s bothering you?”
“It really is stupid,” you tell her thickly. “CC said something, I guess it freaked me out, ‘n got to me a bit.”
Lucy Gray lets out a surprised little laugh and it’s the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard. “And why’re you givin’ a shit about what he’s got to say, huh? Clerk Carmine’s a twelve year old boy. Can’t get more insensitive than that.”
You nod tearfully, gratefully accepting the comfort of her pressing her forehead to yours and toying with your fingers.
“What’s he said to get you all wound up, baby?” she asks you. You hesitate, reddening, and look away.
“Really was stupid,” you mumble.
“You can tell me,” she promises, eyes dark and soft. You bite your lip.
“Just… that I treat you different to the others, I guess,” you admit, words flowing like butter. She could get anything out of you. Lucy Gray stiffens a little in surprise. “Or like, I love you different.”
“Yeah? How’d you mean?” Her words are soft, gentle, and you feel no less soothed than before. Cautiously, you continue.
“He… said I’m pinin’ for you,” you confess, mere minutes after swearing to yourself those words would never reach her ears.
“And are you?”
You stop up short at the bluntness of her question. Her gaze is unreadable, and you inwardly curse her poker face. “I— uhm, what?”
“Are you pinin’ for me?” Lucy Gray repeats.
“I…” You lamely gape like a fish. “I mean, I guess, I don’t know.”
“If I kissed you, d’you think that’d be something you could enjoy?” she asks you. Her tone’s shifted into something different now, and you can’t quite identify it but it has liquid heat pooling in your stomach. Your breath is caught in your throat, you’re scared to make a sound and break this moment, and so you nod wordlessly.
Her hands meet at the nape of your neck and toy with the hairs there as she slowly brings her lips to yours.
Lucy Gray Baird is soft when she kisses you, gentle. She kind of cradles you, her touch delicate, the way she is with her snakes or that fawn she nursed once — as though you might startle at any moment. You don’t know whether to close your eyes and savor the moment or keep them open and commit her to memory forever. You’re utterly beside yourself.
The kiss doesn’t last too long, she keeps it short and sweet, pecking your lips one final time before resting her forehead against yours contentedly.
“You okay, baby?” she asks after a moment, feeling you shaking against her. She leans back to get a better read on you and her brow furrows at your distress. “Sweet girl, I— did I overstep? Oh god, I’m so sorry, I —”
“No,” you manage to choke out. “No, it’s good, I just— this is a lot— I think I’ve loved you forever.”
Lucy Gray melts at that, pulling you in close and letting you rest your head against her chest, soothing her fingers through your hair. “Shhh, sh, it’s okay. Let it out, baby. You know, I always felt like there’s a reason the Covey was brought to Twelve,” she tells you. “I’m so sure it’s always fate, you know? And my momma was too. I always wondered what it was, I’d feel whispers of things at the edges of towns, I spent so long lookin’ for signs I’d never find. And then you brought one to me, you brought me flowers and ribbons and handfuls of love… and then I wasn’t looking for signs anymore. I was seein’ em everywhere I went, and you was bringin’ em to me every Sunday. And it was the holiest thing I ever felt.”
“You’re everything,” you manage, breathless. “I’m not— I’m no bard like you, Lu— you’re everything.”
“I love you,” she tells you, the intensity of her dark gaze setting you alight, “I love you sure as there’s stars in the sky.”
You lie in Lucy Gray’s arms long into the night, and she holds you, whispering to you how much she loves you. When morning comes, you know the stars will still be there, even if they can’t be found. And you know that when she rolls out of bed later than usual on Sunday, her day of rest, and you bring her flowers and ribbons held together with love, she’ll beam brighter than anything and you’ll have a sky full of stars in your arms.

Lamina: Brandy kissed me!
Lucy Gray: Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!
Lamina: It was unbelievable!
Lucy Gray: Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!
Clemencia: Okay, we wanna hear everything. Lucy, get the wine and unplug the phone. Lammy, does this end well or do we need tissues?
Lamina: Oh, it ended very well.
Lucy Gray: Do not start without me! Do not start without me!
Clemencia: Okay, alright, let's hear about this kiss. Was it a soft brush against your lips or was it like a, you know, "I gotta have you now" kind of thing?
Lamina: Well, at first it was really intense, you know? And then, oh God, and then we just sort of sunk into it.
Clemencia: Ohh... So, okay, was she holding you? Or were her hands on your back?
Lamina: First they started out on my waist and then they slid up and then they were in my hair.
Lucy Gray and Clemencia: Ooooo!
*meanwhile*
Brandy eating pizza in her house: And, uh, and then I kissed her.
Coral: Tongue?

I'll Crawl Home to her: Part 1
Lucy Gray Baird x fem reader (x platonic Coriolanus Snow)
A/N: This is also posted on my ao3 which is Homoeroticmicrowave
Tumblr media
"Grandma"
The bleary eyed, elderly woman stared down at her grandchild. The little girl usually bustling with life and energy, incapable of being still was for once stood unmoving. "What is it hon?"
"Whose Lucy Gray?"
The woman's eyes widened "now where on earth did you hear that name?"
"I heard mama mention her when the district 12 girl sang that song for that dead girl. She caught me listening in though and she sent me off"
The woman sighed "I suppose you want me to tell you about her?"
The little girl nodded enthusiastically.
"Settle down then. This is a long one."
The woman paused to collect her thoughts before speaking.
Those names had been wiped from every media outlet the capital put out. The capital had trampled those names, as best it could. But as hard as the capital tries they never were able to snuff out those names entirely. They would always be spoken in hushed tones.
Perhaps not everyone would know them but she would pass the names down so that they might always be known in whispers between generations.
Sixty-five years ago.
You met her first when you were kids.
"Lucy Gray" she grinned, bright eyes bursting with an excitement for life. You felt so bleak standing before her. You met her hand, which she stuck out so ecstatic to explore the unknown.
"Does it matter what my name means?"
She laughed, loud, unapologetic. It devoured the silence with glee. "Course it matters, silly. Without a name you'd erase a whole part of yourself. Everyone's gotta have a name one way or another"
"I don't like my name much" you admitted. "Too much history I'd gladly erase"
Lucy Gray stood in silence for perhaps the first time in her life. She was always bustling with noise. After a moment of quiet she spoke again, her grin bouncing back as she did "well I gotta call you something, so how about we come up for a new name for you. One I can call you. Something that can make you happy rather than sad"
"You think you'll make me happy?"
Her grin seemed to widen "I'll make it my mission to!"
You couldn't help but smile back at the girl "okay"
She let out a squeal as her excitement burst out of her. You didn't like when it was noisy. You found you didn't mind when Lucy Gray was noisy though. Silence suddenly seemed overrated.
"I got it!" Lucy Gray suddenly said "Azalea!"
"what?"
"that'll be your name Azalea!"
You wrinkled your nose a bit "like the plant?"
She grinned "just like the plant!"
"why?"
"My mama likes to tell me stories about our family back when we used to be able to travel anywhere we wanted long before we all got hauled up in twelve. This one time she told a story about a hero called azalea and I asked her the same question you just asked me cause my mama always told me names are important. She said Azalea symbolises taking care of yourself and others."
"it does?"
"It does- and that's what you do! You always take care of me and everyone! You always have!" her grin became almost sly as she moved into teasing you slightly as your face grew hot with embarrassment "you're a real softie at the heart and it comes out in how much you care. Cause you care about others the most out of everyone you've ever met"
You turn your head away "nu uh"
"Yeah-huh!" she said throwing herself over your legs and rolling over to look up at your face "but it also serves as a reminder to take care of yourself. Cause that's what you need to do more than anything. You always care for others but the one person you claim to think of the most is the one you really do the least- that would be you"
"I think of myself plenty!"
"Sure you do" Lucy Gray said, sass dripping off her words in plenty, as she rolled her eyes. "What do you think of the name anyway?"
"Azalea" you said trying the name out on your tongue "I think I like Azalea"
"Well then!" Lucy Gray grinned as she always did when she saw you "It's nice to meet you Azalea".
Your hands mets hers and it was warm.
"It's nice to meet you too, Lucy Gray."

Fight or Flight Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lucy Gray Baird x Fem! Reader - 1,201 words
Warnings: Implied sexual content, graphic depictions of violence - gun violence, blunt force/beating, implied past assault, blood, generally unhappy feelings, character death
—————————————————
It had been three days now since the “incident” in the middle of the forest with Lucy Gray. The two of you still held hands most of the time, but if you even looked at her, there was a high chance she’d pull away blushing madly. You still recall the sweet words you’d uttered to each other amongst passion. How she felt around your fingers. Was any of that real?
“I love you more.”
“Not possible.”
You squeeze her hand and rug her closer at the memory. Lucy Gray doesn’t resist and leans slightly on your arm. It wasn’t too late, if the sky wasn’t obscured by dark clouds it would likely still be a little light out. The air smelled of rain with the slight humidity that came alongside it.
Lucy Gray hums softly as she observes the sky from your side. “It’s gonna storm soon.” She says. You look at her, causing her to avert her gaze. You sigh before responding, “We really need to find a new shelter. Exposure can kill as easily as a knife.” Lucy Gray pauses. “A knife huh? Who taught you that little phrase?” You shrug. “My ma maybe? I don’t really remember.”
Lucy Gray nods. “Well, don’t you worry, we’ll be there soon.” She replies, releasing your hand. That was a relief at least, you were getting tired of walking aimlessly day in and day out. You watch as she walks ahead of you.
You follow her, she was running her hands through her own hair, grooming it. Lucy Gray never did seem quite satisfied with how she looked, that was something you’d noticed just from watching her. Always adjusting her dress, her hair, brushing herself off of coal dust and dirt. Lucy Gray wasn’t made to live in district 12.
It was like having a bright, shiny thing among everything dark and drab. A diamond in the rough, you mused to yourself with a smile. For as lovely as you knew Lucy Gray was, you also recall the horrible things that came with it. Drunk men at the Hob who couldn’t control themselves, sober men in the daylight offering ‘well paying jobs’, a bothersome, ugly, cheating nobody Billy Taupe. Coriolanus to you supposed.
You’d fought them all off with an iron fist. A shove to the drunks, a glare to the sober, a good old bloody nose for Billy Taupe and…
A crash of thunder interrupts your train of thought. It easily startles you both, Lucy Gray whips around to look at you. “Just the thunder.” You sigh. “We’re okay.” Her expression relaxes and she turns back around with a shaky sigh. You walk up behind her, placing a hand on her lower back to guide her along and to provide comfort.
You both continue walking as the rain begins pouring. Dying of hypothermia crossed your mind, but you tried hard not to think about it. Lightning struck, followed by another crash of thunder. At the very least the flashes provided temporary light, which was helpful with the dark atmosphere. Lucy Gray shudders the rain was cold, you really couldn’t blame her.
When the wind blew you pulled her closer, hoping to warm her a bit. However, wind did not mask the sound of a branch cracking behind you. For a moment you tense, before recalling what happened with the cat. “Not this again…” You grumble, and look at Lucy Gray, who was already looking back at what was behind you two.
Lucy Gray had a wide eyed, fearful stare plastered on her face. “Lucy Gray?” You hear another branch snap. Your face pales, blood running cold. This felt familiar in the worst possible way. Like… a dream. Your vision blurs as you recall the nightmare that had haunted you since the night you arrived together at the cabin by the lake. The night you’d killed Snow. Peacekeepers.
Why would they be out this far? You answered your own question — Snow, he’d gone missing. Maybe they’d found his body, or the gun. Not to mention the evidence of you and Lucy Gray being there, the trap, the campfire, footprints. Maybe they suspected you of Mayfair and Billy Taupe’s murders too. Without warning they open fire. They’re far away, and new recruits too, you can tell by how badly they miss.
You dash forward and grab Lucy Gray’s arm. She runs after as you drag her along into an area of more tightly packed trees. You disappeared from view of the soldiers. “Lucy Gray, how many were there?” She said nothing, likely still in shock. The stress was getting to you so you shook her harshly. “How many?” You hiss, whisper yelling.
“Three.” She breathed out. Lucy Gray’s voice was weak and shaky. You pull her close as the rain pelts down hard on your heads. When the next flash of lightning comes you look around, spotting the group. Three men. You hadn’t planned on ever harming anyone again — let alone becoming a serial killer. Four deaths on your hands.
You grab a jagged rock from the ground and look at Lucy Gray’s face. For her, you were more than ready to kill. You felt her trembling against you, and a mix of anger, guilt and resentment invade your mind. The peacekeepers were reloading, they were vulnerable.
You stood and lunged at the quickest of the three. He cried out, dropping his loaded gun a few feet away. It took three hits to kill him, the third was brutal enough that it caved his face in, dark and red with blood. Your new strength must’ve come from adrenaline. You turn to the next man, he’s smaller than the first, smaller than you in fact. He looks terrified as he fumbles with his gun.
You hit his head right at the temple, the most vulnerable part of the head. Then you hit it again. His it caves, and his eye bulges, partially out of the socket. You grimace in disgust.
You felt deeply disturbed by your own actions and the way the man cries, garbled and inhuman. You hit him again, and then again, and he’s dead on the ground. The slowest with his gun, was now loaded, glaring at you. The only thing that gave away his fear was the fact that his hands shook as he aimed at you. You hear gunshots going off and prepare yourself to be struck.
The final peacekeeper falls, full of a barrage of bullets. Lucy Gray stood from where you’d left her in the bush, holding one of the mens’ guns. She was no marksman but at least ten of the total hundred shots the gun was capable of had landed, and that was enough. You drop the blood splattered rock and at the same time Lucy Gray drops to her knees.
You freeze. “Lucy Gray..?” She falls down into the mud. The familiar scene made you feel sick. Just like your nightmare, Lucy Gray had been shot. In the pouring rain you rushed to her side and held her as she finally let her pain be known, crying and whimpering weakly.

massive thank yous to all of my mutuals, whether we talk or not, your support is very appreciated! and to everyone who's interacted with me in any way, thank you!
i know 100 isn't a lot to a lot of people but it's a big number to me, especially having made this blog for less than half a year (a little less than three months i think?) so this number is absolutely mind boggling to me. i am literally just a silly little dude on the internet screaming about fictional characters?

Coriolanus has never been the easiest person to understand. His mind was always racing and it kept you on your toes. Even now as he fretted over his appearance in the mirror you could tell his mind was thinking of a million things beyond whether or not his tie fit him correctly.
"For what it's worth, I think you look perfect." You say, sipping at your drink, you had been ready for nearly twenty minutes while Coriolanus was still figuring out what tie matched his pants best.
"I'm sure you do but this isn't just any party, I'm campaigning tonight and everything must be perfect." He says adjusting his hair even though it already sat perfectly styled atop his head.
It was Coriolanus' 23rd birthday and instead of celebrating like you usually did, you were both spending it at a party full of people who might help him reach the presidency by the beginning of next year. You approach him and wrap your arms around him, resting your chin on his shoulder.
"It will be." You assure, pressing a kiss to his exposed neck where his makeup artist did a wonderful job at covering the marks you had left behind last night.
"If all goes well tonight, you might just become the first lady of Panem one day." He smiles at you through the mirror
"Does that mean we're getting married?" You laugh, trying to ignore the way your heart skipped a beat at the idea of being with him forever
"Maybe..." Coriolanus says suddenly avoiding your eyes as his face reddens under your gaze.
You giggle at your boyfriend's flustered face, despite how grown up he had become in the past few years he was still the same boy you met at the academy all those years ago who just wanted his own bowl of fruit to gobble down.
"You definitely wanna marry me, Coryo!" You say almost as if you had discovered a secret of his.
"Well if you're not interested I can always find another." He jests, finally tying his tie.
"Oh please, I'm the only one who could ever tolerate you." You smile as he spins around to face you and rests his hands on your hips
"That you are, darling, that you are." He smiles and presses a chaste kiss to your lips
Coriolanus is sure you are his favorite person in the entire world. From the way you'd laugh at his jokes to the way your nose whistled when you slept, he loved it all. Even now as the two of you had long abandoned your teenage years and stepped into adulthood, he knew he didn't want to lose you. His interactions with Lucy Gray and his time in District 12 had only solidified how he wanted you to stay close to him. He watches as you cross the room to slip into a pair of pretty high heels, he loved the way your dress sat on your body, it was perfectly fitted and he wondered what designer had been able to craft it so perfectly.
He looked back at the mirror and pretended to fiddle with his outfit again even though he knew he looked perfect. Instead, his eyes cast to the small table next to the mirror where a collection of photos sat you and him over the past five years. His favorite though was the one that was taken at your 17th birthday party. He remembered how warm it had been, and at one point someone had filled a bucket of water and tossed at you. He had expected you to cry out and push everyone out of your home but instead, he was met with your laughter and thus a water fight had begun. The picture of the two of you had been taken not even twenty minutes later, both of you were drenched but happy and you had linked your arms together right before the picture was taken. Sometimes he wished to go back to those moments, to relieve the last bits of his boyhood even though it meant going back to that decrepit building he once lived in and the taste of cabbage a constant on his tongue.
"Thinking about the past?" You ask from across the room.
"Thinking about how ugly we look here." He says picking up the photo
"Nonsense, we're adorable in that. If I remember correctly that was taken a few weeks before you tripped me in my room trying to slow dance and then you gave me the kiss of a lifetime." You smile
"I didn't trip you, you tripped me with your bad dancing." He laughed, returning the photo to its proper place among the others.
"Whatever you say, Coryo." You smiled, he could tell you didn't believe one word that came from his mouth about the tripping incident.
These parties were always a bit tedious for you. You enjoyed seeing Coriolanus happy among Capitol elites and you loved the lavish dresses you got to wear but sometimes it became overwhelming. The sheer amount of reporters that were always at these things is what drove you crazy. Coriolanus ate the attention up and answered all their questions about how he'd change Panem for the better but you were usually left answering questions about what your dress was made of or what your relationship was with Coriolanus. He often assured you that once he won the presidency he'd have more control over what was asked and that you'd never have to answer another dress question again. You hoped he won as soon as possible, it was tiring pretending this line of questioning was interesting.
"Is that real gold on your sleeves?"
"Is that ring on your finger an engagement ring?"
"Who did your hair for the evening?"
"Are you going to have the future president's children?"
"Did you seduce Coriolanus Snow for power in the Capitol?"
"How many toes do you have?"
God you wished they'd all shut up, or at least get better questions. Even just something as small as your involvement with your father's company would've been better than this. You ignored whatever trash was coming from their mouths and held on to Coriolanus' arm like he was going to disappear and end up back in District 12 again.
You remembered that day very well, after Coriolanus' tribute had won he had just disappeared despite promising to walk you home after the games had ended. When he didn't show up for graduation either, you found yourself outside Tigris and Grandma'am's new residence looking for answers. Tigris had told you what happened with him and that girl, Lucy Gray, how he cheated with rat poison and a handkerchief of his father's. At first, you had been distraught that he was sent off to District 12, stuck there for twenty years as some peacekeeping grunt, you'd be an ugly middle-aged woman by the time he got back! You had been in the pits of despair about your relationship with him but all it took was one terrifying meeting with Dr. Gaul to change your attitude. Once she revealed that Coriolanus would be back in the Capitol soon, and she was simply testing his dedication to the games, you relaxed. While Dr. Gaul might not have all her marbles you knew she wasn't lying, and sure enough, your Coriolanus returned to you in a matter of weeks.
However, he returned to you differently though. Sure, his head was shaved like all Peacekeepers and the curls you loved to play with were gone, but his attitude had also changed. Perhaps it was that Songbird he never wanted to speak of even now. You could never quite place what happened between Coriolanus and her, all that mattered to you was that he had assured you it wasn't romantic. Just shared ambitions to both win something. In her case her life and in his the Plinth Prize, not that that went well for her since she had disappeared shortly after she went home. You weren't quite sure what to make of Lucy Gray, the mysterious Songbird who had enchanted all of Panem just five years ago. You had only spoken to her once and it was just to compliment her singing during her interview. She hadn't exactly impressed you with her in that moment but she must have impressed Coriolanus at some point if he was willing to break rules for her.
Or perhaps his change was due to whatever training Peacekeepers went through and the death of Sejanus that had rocked the entire Capitol when he was revealed as a traitor, you knew Coriolanus had been close to him. Of course, despite all his changes and attitude adjustments, he never applied them to you. So, here you stayed by his side, happy that he still loved you the same. Soft touches and sweet words remained constant as the two of you aged and explored the advantages of adulthood. One of your favorite things about being 23 was moving out of your family's home and into the penthouse Coriolanus had chosen for the two of you. Waking up next to Coriolanus each day and seeing how he looked before his eyes fluttered open had to be your favorite part of the days you spent together. Brushing his hair from his eyes and counting the freckles that just barely brushed his pale skin was something you did daily until his pretty blue eyes met yours again. Once he did wake though, it was hard to get him to stay in bed with you. His peaceful state was always replaced with a man who was always working towards something, ambition was always fueling him.
You didn't mind his rough exterior that emerged each morning though, Coriolanus was cold and hard on everyone but you. Perhaps it was your shared childhood memories and teenage romance that prevented him from treating you coldly like he did poor Tigris but you weren't sure. One thing you did know was that the boy you grew up with was gone and a man stood in his place, brooding and cold to everyone but you.
"I'm going to get us a drink and then if you want we can dance." He whispered in your ear
"Can you get me that fizzy lemon drink they usually serve?" You ask
"Of course, I'll bring you some of those hors d'oeuvres you like with the cheese as well."
And then, he was gone from your side moving expertly through the crowd. That dazzling blonde hair accompanied by the broadest shoulders you've ever seen on a man disappeared among the throngs of people craning their necks to get a better look at the future president and his pretty face.
"A true marvel isn't he?" a voice to your right said
You turned to be met by none other than Lucky Flickerman, a drink in one hand and a young child's hand grasped in the other.
"I'm not interested in doing an interview, Lucky. If you want information on Coryo you can ask him yourself." You say, ready to walk away from the Capitol's favorite news anchor turned Hunger Games host.
"Coryo...what an interesting nickname, a bit childish for a man who might watch over us all soon. No matter, I would however absolutely love to report on you one day and maybe even that big business you're the heiress of, but I'm actually talking to you for this little one tonight." Lucky smiles motioning to the boy who you guessed was his son. "He was admiring that stunning dress of yours and I thought he might want to see it up close and personal."
For once you didn't mind being asked about your clothes as you crouched down to the little boy's height, he couldn't be more than 5 or 6.
"You have a good eye, would you like to feel the fabric? The designer I met with made it wonderfully soft." You smile, thinking of how Tigris had gushed over the blood-red fabric that would perfectly match Coriolanus' suit with you just weeks ago.
The boy reaches his hand out and brushes it along expensive fabric and a smile grows on his face.
"What's your name?" You ask
"Caesar." He says "I just turned 6 last week."
"Well, Caesar, six is a marvelous age to be, you can do all sorts of things at six. In fact, when I turned six I learned to ride a bicycle for the first time, I did however scrape my knees half a million times. I even still have a few scars on my knees would you like to see them?." You smile at him and he nods.
"Lucky Flickerman, I thought I told your producers that you weren't allowed to bother her with your idiotic questions the way the other reporters do. You clearly don't value your job, if you did you would have listened to my words." Coriolanus' voice suddenly fills your ears as you quickly right yourself, remembering how he once told you you'd have to start holding yourself with more decorum at these events. 'No more acting like a stupid teenager' had been his exact words one night when you were eating dinner together in your shared room.
"It's fine, his son wanted to say hello." You smile down at Caesar, take your lemon drink, and pop some of the food Coriolanus brought with him into your mouth. You sincerely hoped that you weren't about to witness Lucky being fired by the newest mastermind behind The Hunger Games and future the president.
From the corner of your eye, you see Coriolanus cast an intimidating look down at the boy and you resist the urge to elbow him in the ribs and force him to apologize to the poor child who was now cowering behind his father's stylish pant leg.
"I'll see you later, Lucky. We are going to go dancing now." Coriolanus says setting your barely sipped drink and food on a tray of a passing server before whisking you away.
"You're bad with children, Coryo." You say as he leads you towards the dance floor.
"And you're bad at reading people, darling." He says, ignoring the way you pouted at your loss of lemon drink and cheese-sprinkled food.
"What do you mean?" You ask, confused
"Lucky just wanted to get you to answer questions about me," Coriolanus says as he leads you in a dance, the both of you had gotten exceptionally better since your failure at 17 in your childhood bedroom.
"Oh." You say, a bit sad that he wasn't genuinely interested in you, just another dumb reporter who wanted news on Coriolanus' next move. It was amazing how Coriolanus always knew what others were thinking and how to approach a situation best.
"It's alright, just ignore him next time," Coriolanus says, gently squeezing your waist as a form of reassurance.
You nod and rest your head on his shoulder as you spin around the dance floor, suddenly wishing you were tangled up in bed with him rather than dancing in heels that were pinching your toes.
"Can I confess something to you?" Coriolanus whispers, his lips tickling your ear.
"Of course, always " You reply honestly
"I hate seeing you interacting with them." He says in a low voice.
"Them?" You ask
"These people. Seeing them ask you questions about your dress or hair, makes me want to toss them into the arena and watch one of Gaul's mutts rip them apart. I hate the way they look at you like you're a piece of meat attached to my side." He says, possessiveness lacing his tone.
"Oh...well I'm sure they don't all think that way." You try to reason, hoping that he wasn't right about this read on others.
"I doubt it. Look at that one by the fountain in the blue jacket." He says nodding to his right.
You glance over to the fountain and see an old man with a fluffy white beard and white hair to match. He seemed to be carefully watching you and Coriolanus spinning on the dancefloor but you weren't quite sure.
"I'm positive he's standing there imagining what it'd look like if this pretty dress was on the floor and you were on top of him," Coriolanus whispers, knowing it'll have you blushing in his arms.
"Coryo..." You say, trying to keep your composure as he presses his body to yours while you wonder if he's truly right and the old man across the pretty courtyard is truly ogling you.
"Too bad I'm the only one who will ever know what that looks like." He says a certain arrogance in his voice you can't quite place.
"Stop it." You scold, trying to hide the fact that your face is as red as your dress.
"Why? I can't wait to get back to our bedroom tonight and bring what's in my head to life." Coriolanus laughs, his voice was husky in your ears and making you weak in the knees.
"You're so embarrassing, Coryo." You say into his chest, avoiding that sharp gaze he had. How could someone act so well-composed but also have the dirty mind of a perverted teenage boy?
Coriolanus stops leading your dance and hooks a finger under your chin so you're looking up at him again. Sharp blue eyes that felt like they were staring into your soul looked at you, full of passion and want.
"My heart burns for you, darling, as it always has. You're mine, my perfect girl, all mine." He promises before swooping in to deliver what might qualify as the most monumental kiss in all of history.
A certain warmness spreads across your body as he kisses you in public for the first time. It's moments like this with your Coriolanus make your heart swell, these moments remind you that the little boy with the golden curls you met when you were just twelve lives on, just in a different way. You know the teenager you once ate cabbage soup and bread with sweet jam watches over you as you kiss his 23-year-old self, you know he's smiling at where the two of you are now. You're sure that the same boy who once spun you around your childhood bedroom to your favorite slow song is still here with you now, even if he rarely shows his face. Coriolanus Snow is always watching over you, every version of him envelopes you tonight as he shows the world who you are to him.
Your head spins and your lungs burn as you hear a few whoops and cheers from onlookers while others whisper about how Coriolanus' hands are wandering all over your body. You're sure the way he's kissing you is going to end up on some Capitol news reel tomorrow morning but you can't find the heart to care. Somewhere in his chest, you feel Coriolanus let out a deep groan when you run your hands through his hair ruining the way it was perfectly styled for the evening. You gasp when his teeth nip at your bottom lip and pull away, a gasp for air leaving your now surely swollen lips.
"All yours, Coryo." You assure him and lean in for another kiss.
You smile as he kisses back and couldn't care less about what the world around you thinks, you had your Coryo, the boy who you grew up with and ate cabbage together in his decrepit home, the same boy who danced with you despite his own lack of skill. You were with your Coriolanus, the man who was going to carry Panem into a new age of glory.
Part Three
Series Masterlist
Read the Teaser here
So I uh sorta ended up abandoning fluffy Coryo thoughts from part one and went with the reader's pov of him at 23, I hope that's okay with all of you. He still loves you though don't worry, it's just in his own Coryo way. His own magically manipulative Coryo way. I was initially going to make this part during the 10th Hunger Games but then I thought, wouldn't it be interesting to see how he interacts with reader post Lucy Gray considering how much she changes his ideals. To make things clear, every moment with Lucy Gray and Coryo has occurred and the reader is unaware of pretty much all of it here, obviously since she's so goo goo gah gah over him.
If you'd like more of my writings about Coryo and you, my fic Blank Space might be the read for you, it also has a part two that is available now You can read them both here. (Yes it's based on the Taylor Swift song)

When your eyes first laid upon Lucy Gray Baird, you were immediately enthralled by her presence. Everyone who had ever gotten the honor to meet her would say the same.
You had grown up in the very same district that her and her family, The Covey, were locked up in after being rounded up by the Peacekeepers. Most people around Twelve talked shit on them for being different, but the thing that drew you in the most to her was the fact that she didn’t give a shit.
She didn’t care what anyone thought, no one in her family did. They loved what they did, and that was singing. You saw this on full display at the Hob, where they performed every other night.
You already knew she was beautiful, but, God, when you saw her on that stage, beaming, you swore Aphrodite was standing before you. Her voice was just as beautiful as her, as she danced around stage, captivating the whole room.
At the end her performance, you snatched a daisy out of someone’s bouquet as you walked by, speed-walking to the corridor you were watching her walk into.
“Lucy Gray!” You called, the girl turning towards your call immediately, a smile still on her face. You held out the flower, a soft smile on your face. “You’re beautiful, as well as your singing.”
She blushed, her laugh coming out. “Why, thank you, darlin’.” She took the daisy, taking it up to her nose to smell. “What’s your name?”
“Y/N,” You beamed. “It’s a real pleasure to see you and your family around here. You really light it up ‘round here.” You complimented. “Twelve’s a normally dull place, but here.. it’s different.”
“Thank you, truly.” Her hand grabbed yours, squeezing. “I’ll see you around.”
And she kept her word, finding you after her next show to get to know you better.
And just like that, the pair of you were inseparable.
She introduced you to the Covey, and after they learned you had pipes, you were immediately brought into their group. You loved it, it felt as if you had found the people you’d been longing for your whole life.
But you found yourself staring at Lucy Gray for longer than normal, a dopey smile lazily draped across your sun kissed features. It wasn’t until some teasing from CeCe and Billy that you realized that you had feelings for the girl.
“Aye, Y/N, it seems like you got some drool right there…” CeCe teased, a playful smile on his face as they caught you staring at the girl for the 100th time.
Billy butted in from his side. “Yeah, you do. Someone’s fallin’ for the songbird,” He laughed. You rolled your eyes at them, before taking their words into consideration.
Holy fuck, you were falling for her.
I mean, how could you not? She was a beacon of light, her presence alone brighting up every room she walked into to, and she had treated you wonderfully, even going as far to include you with her family.
You were caught up in your love daze, not realizing the crushing realities that came with your feelings. But when you did, it left a sour taste in your mouth.
The butterflies swirling in your abdomen stopped in an instant, replaced with an oozing, grueling feeling of worry. Lucy Gray could find you repulsing— and the whole Covey would leave you as well.
It left you wishing you had a factory reset button to forget your feelings at once.
“Y/N, what’s with the frown?” Lucy Gray suddenly appeared in front of you, her signature smile on her cherry lips.
Your eyes snapped to hers, your nerves only growing. “Oh, nothin’. Just thinkin’.”
She sat down next to you. “Oh, really? Didn’t think you was capable.” She joked, making you lightly shove her with a smile.
Your breath caught in your throat when you realized how close you were to the girl. Her honey eyes stared up into yours, and you struggled to not look at her lips. All you wanted to do was close the space between the pair of you.
But you decided on that day that you would settle for this. After all— having her as a friend was better than nothing.
It wasn’t until the reaping of that year that you decided to throw caution to the wind.
It was the Covey’s first reaping, and it was for the annual 9th Hunger Games. Your nerves always got the best of you during this time of year, but it seemed that you weren’t the only one.
You sat in your room, Lucy Gray sitting at your desk in the corner. She said she was trying to write, but you could tell by the bouncing of her leg and her tense body that it wasn’t going well.
You licked your lips, putting your book aside. “You alright, Gray?”
She turned her head, her eyes meeting yours from over her shoulder. She sighed, turning back to the paper and rubbing her temple. “No,”
You stood up, coming to stand next to her, your hesitant hands rubbing her shoulders, the tense muscles deflating under your touch. “What’s wrong?”
“I.. I just really miss my mama.” She let out a sad breath. “And this reapin’ stuff is got my nerves wrecked.”
“I know the feelin’.” You bitterly chuckled. “You won’t get your name drawn, Lucy, none of you will. Your names are only in their once, your chances are slim. You should be okay. I miss my ma, too. I know it hurts.” You tried your best to calm her.
Her hand came up to grab yours that was resting on her shoulder, lacing your fingers together. “You know, you are about the only good thing in this District,” She smiled up at you, her worry lines faded.
At her words you felt those butterflies return, as your eyes flickered down to her lips, your teeth pulling in your bottom lip as you tried to talk yourself down.
Lucy Gray noticed this, however, and with a smile still plastered on her pretty face, she leaned up ever so slightly and captured your lips with her own. Your eyes widened in surprise, before they fluttered closed, your hands coming up to cup her face.
You let out a happy hum against her lips, the girl standing up to get a better grip on your hips, her lips never leaving yours. When you broke apart for air, a giggle left her slips at the sight of your lips stained with her lipstick.
“I’ve wanted you to do that for so long,” You admitted with a smile.
A smirk grew across her face. “I was waitin’ for you to grow the balls to do it first. Turns out you were too chicken.” She teased, her arms wrapping around your neck as she left small pecks on your lips.
You didn’t even pretend to be offended by her words, instead rolling your eyes playfully before kissing her again.
“Be my girlfriend,” She whispered against your lips. You pulled back slightly at her words, before jumping into her arms.
“Yes, yes.” You chuckled, as the girl hugged you back just as tightly.
That led you to now, where you smiled at the same brunette that was laid in your arms. She was different, anyone who had been what she went through would be, but she was also still your same Lucy Gray in all the best ways.
After you got her back from the games, you vowed to never let her go again. The turmoil you felt in the weeks that she was away from you, not knowing if you’d see her again or not— you never wanted to feel that again. And she felt the same way.
“You got a starin’ problem, girl?” Lucy Gray teased with that southern drawl you loved, seeing that you were lost in thought.
A warm smiled crossed your face at the sound of her voice, your hand going to play with her hair. “If it means I get to look at you, then yes, I do.”
She giggled, snuggling deeper into your arms. “Yeah, yeah, you sap.”
“You love it,”
She rolled her eyes, playfully. “I do,” She looked at you seriously now, leaning up to kiss you softly. You smiled against her lips, the feeling of her expressing her love for you in such an intimate way always making you smile.
You would proudly admit that you were head over heels in love with your girlfriend to anyone. But you knew you couldn’t— hell, the only people that even knew you were together was the Covey and her mentor, Coriolanus Snow. People didn’t seem expect, nor accept your type of love.
She had told him during her time there, during the nights they spent together talking through the cage bars. She talked his ear off about you, a love-sick smile on her face the whole time, the girl forgetting that some people weren’t accepting of your love.
But to her surprise, Coriolanus didn’t care if she was with a girl. In fact, he was thrilled, which confused her to no end. (She didn’t know this, but the only reason he was happy was because he now had something that would fuel her to win.)
You thanked every star above for the Snow boy for bringing your girl back to you, even if she was brought back with sharper edges. You didn’t care, you had her back in your arms. And you wanted to thank him.
But, Lucy Gray was a different girl than what she was when she left, even if she tried to pretend that wasn’t the case. She was more paranoid, more protective of the people she loved— especially you. More than you anticipated.
So the next morning when you set out to find the boy who was currently serving time as a Peacekeeper in your very district, the one goal in your mind was to thank him, the thought that this might be upsetting to your girlfriend not even crossing your temple.
You decided to bring him a rose— Lucy Gray mentioning to you that his Grandmother grew them, and you just happened to as well. It wasn’t like the pure ones his Grandmother grew in the Capitol, but you deemed it good enough.
You caught a glimpse of his platinum buzzcut, a smile growing over your ruby red lips. “Snow!” You called, jogging up to him in your cowboy boots. He turned at the call, his eyebrows furrowing when he saw it was you.
“Y/N?” He questioned.
“Hey, Coriolanus.” You smiled, holding out the rose for him. “Lucy Gray mentioned something about your Grandmother and roses, and just as a thanks for you bringin’ her back to me, I’d like to give you this,” You motioned to the rose.
To your delight, his hard face warped into that of a smile. “Thank you, Y/N. Truly.” His hand came out to squeeze your forearm affectionately. “I appreciate it, and you don’t have to thank me for that.”
“I do.” You assured him. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if I didn’t get her back. You saved her… so, truly, thank you, Coriolanus. I mean it.” You felt eyes on you, but you shook the feeling off.
He nodded sheepishly, not used to the type of compliment you were giving him. “Of course.. Thank you for the rose. Let me know if you need anything, I’ll see you around.” He smiled, giving your forearm one last squeeze before he turned.
“You’re welcome, Coryo.” You flashed him one last smile before you turned on your heel yourself. What you didn’t expect to see was to see those honey eyes you loved staring daggers at you.
You cocked your head to the side as she began to stomp her way towards you. Once she reached you, she grabbed your wrist with a hard grip, and without word dragged you back to your now shared home.
“Lucy, what’re you doing?” You asked, just as your neared the front lawn of your home.
She clicked her tongue, a sign she was mad, and shook her head, continuing to lead you to the house in silence. Once the pair of you got in, she threw her bag on your shared bed, crossing her arms.
“What the hell was that?” She asked, her tone hard.
“What are you talkin’ about, Lucy?” You asked, stepping closer to her. She only backed away, her head shaking once again, while you visibly shrank at her rejection.
“Don’t play dumb, Y/N. You know better,” She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “I been runnin’ around, lookin’ for you like some fool, while you were off with my mentor, lettin’ him touch you. Why were you with him, huh?” She pressed. “What, you think I’m stupid or somethin’?”
“Coriolanus?” Your eyebrows furrowed, still not quite catching on to what she was so angry about.
“Yes, damnit, him.” Her voice slightly raised as she walked up to you, her gaze lowered as she glared at you. “Why were you givin’ him a rose, huh? Why were his hands on you?”
You licked your lips as you took in her state. Her pupils were blown out, her jaw slack— God, she looked so hot when she was angry. You shook your head at your thoughts, trying to be serious.
“Aye!” Her fingers snapped in front of your face, angrily. “Answer me,”
“Lucy, I— I was goin’ to thank him..” You whispered, your voice dying in your throat as you submitted to her fiery gaze.
“Why?” Her voice was low and raspy, sending shivers down your spine.
“For bringin’ you back t’me.” You admitted, looking at the floor guiltily as it sunk in that how much you truly had upset her. “I never got the chance to properly thank him, and you said he liked roses. So I brought him one, I thought it would remind him of home. I didn’t mean anything by it, I swear,”
Her eyes softened. “Oh, baby, I’m sorry..” She whispered, one hand coming up to cup your jaw, rubbing softly. “I.. My mind went somewhere completely different when I saw him touchin’ you.. It just made me angry,”
A sly smirk came over your features. “I think you mean jealous, Lucy Gray.” You whispered teasingly.
“Only you could make me this crazy,” She smiled. “But, I am sorry.” She said, guilt swirling in her eyes.
“Hey, it’s alright.” You reassured her, seeing that she was beating herself up. “Even I get a little jealous seein’ Billy drape hisself on you when he’s shitfaced, it’s normal, baby, I ain’t mad.” Your goofy smile mixed with your southern accent making her smile come back.
But just as it returned, it was replaced with a serious look. “Just.. stay away from him, alright? I don’t fully trust ‘em.”
“I won’t go near him again, I promise. I just wanted him to know I was thankful for bringin’ my best girl back t’me,” You tried to cheer her up, your lips ghosting over hers.
“Good. ‘Cause your mine,” She smirked, closing the space between the two of you as her lips kissed you hard, her teeth nipping your bottom lip as you let out a gasp, granting her access to your mouth as she deepened the kiss.
You smiled against her lips, thanking the stars above that you had the pleasure of being hers.

"Would you have kissed him?" Maude Ivory poked fun at you, grinning widely at her question. You scrunch your nose at her willingness to ask such a thing.
"No! I don't kiss boys after our first date," you giggled as you spoke. The rustle of the tall, yellowing grass brushed against each other, making 'wush' as you walked past. The blinding white sun shined onto you as you walked next to Lucy Gray, Maude Ivory walking between the both of you.
You were correct about that though; you would have never kissed a boy after your first date. The idea made you feel so gross. You barely knew those boys and they always gave you a gross feeling whenever they told you things you didn’t find attractive. Either way, you never kissed them.
"Don't ask such personal questions, it's rude," Lucy Gray remarks, tugging at the young girl's hand to get her attention to something else. Maude Ivory laughs and continues walking next to her. “But seriously, you never kissed them?”
“Hey! You can’t ask that, that’s personal!” Maude Ivory mocked the girl, which caused Lucy Gray to scrunch her nose, smiling, nonetheless. She turned her attention back to you.
“No, they were so odd. They seemed like sweet guys, just not my type,” you remarked, waving off the idea of dating those men.
__
The day passed quicker than you would have preferred. The moon now hung over the lake, shining a silver light over the dark blue water. The rest of the Covey had gone to sleep in the lake house, having laid blankets on the flooring of the cabin. On the other hand, you and Lucy Gray were outside hanging up the wet swim clothes.
The conversation had started off peacefully, making talk on Billy Taupe and his sudden appearance at the Hob a week before and how your life was going with your job and helping with the Covey. But it all trailed back to one event in your past you would have preferred keeping hidden.
"You remember when we were younger, and we were at your home when your parents weren't home?" Lucy Gray said quietly. You nodded; you remember it vividly. Lucy Gray was invited to your home, but your parents needed to go to the market for food. So naturally, you played together in the garden. You remembered how you had kissed her, it wasn't out of any friendship like love, it was something that made you always feel fuzzy. At some point in your life, you pushed off the idea and never felt it again.
But she kissed you back.
"Yeah, I remember," you replied and nodded your head, looking over at her. Her dark eyes stared back at you, looking deeply into yours. You looked away from her quickly, wondering if you gaze long enough, you would have gotten lost in her eyes. “When you…”
“Kissed you? Yeah… that’s what I mean,” she finished your sentence for you, holding one of the swimsuits to the clothesline. You press your lips into a line and do something similar to what she was doing, hanging the cloth with a wooden clip.
“Why’d you bring it up?” You asked and glance at her. Lucy Gray's deep purple dress seemed to blend into the dark night surrounding you two, the only parts you could really see of her was her tan skin unhidden by the dress.
"You liked me, did you not?" Lucy Gray says and gazes at you, expecting an answer. You purse your lips, wondering if your answer was truly as important to her as it was to you. Lying was an easier answer. You did like like her but not anymore.
"I don't remember, Lucy Gray. It happened a long time ago," you answer plainly. It was a plain old lie, you remembered it very well. You remembered how the flowers smelled and what colour her dress was the day you kissed her first. As little as you wanted to remember such vivid imagery, you could basically smell the flowers each time you thought about it (which was very little). "It was just a phase I went through, everyone goes through that time in their life."
She tilted her head at your last sentence, hesitating to continue moving. Nonetheless, Lucy Gray accepted your answer, pressing her lips into a line, then looking at the grass below her feet. Her fingers picked at her dress mindlessly, bringing it between her finger and thumb then dropping it back against her leg.
“I haven’t been to your house in a long while. Are your parents still doing well?” She inquires and bends down to grab another piece of clothing.
“They moved across town, let me keep the house since they didn’t want me moving to a random spot they didn’t know about,” you answer blankly.
"That's nice," she smiled and glanced at you. The silence lasted an eternity (or what felt like it) until Lucy Gray spoke again. "Why don't you like the boys you date? I can understand finding a red flag and not finding them attractive again, but you just keep going on these dates yet none please you...?"
The question made you pause, the wet cloth causing your palm to grow cold. "Just... trying to find someone good enough for me," you assure and clip the cloth to the wire.
She sighed and finally set the clothes back in the basket. "(Y/n)," Lucy Gray says calmly. "No one goes through a phase where they want to kiss girls."
"What does that have to do with anything?" You ask, slightly annoyed at her suddenly going on about the kiss you shared.
"I'm just saying that...," Lucy Gray trailed off, looking down at her hands, which fidgeted aimlessly. "Please tell me you weren't in love with that boy. Any of those boys."
Her words shocked you. You had gone on and on about how the guys you had dated weren't people you even liked, hell, they weren't even kind to you. Now she's showing she cares about the possibility you're in love with someone.
As much as you didn't want to admit it, you weren't in love with those boys, each date felt bland and never brought you that flurry filled feeling Lucy Gray's kiss had given you years ago. You swallow thickly.
"No...," You finally answer. It was almost like it was against your will to answer. But if you hadn't, Lucy Gray would have accepted it. "I wasn't in love with those boys, you know that."
She looks down at her hand and lightly, mindlessly, traces the veins on the back of her palm.
"You're in love with someone, you've said so. I want to know who it is," Lucy Gray pleads, sucking in a breath. "I promise I won't tell a soul. You can trust me."
Your eyes watered at her request, your mouth growing sour from your growing tears. You knew how stupid it was to cry at such a question, but you couldn't help it. Your lips drew back into a line, hoping to stop you wanting to cry.
Each second that passed made you realize how little you loved those boys, like wasn't even a good enough term to give your feeling for them. You simply felt nothing for them. Every date you went on made you so bored and made you wish you were with someone more entertaining, more lovely than them. Lucy Gray was a good fit for that someone.
It finally hit you. You were in love with Lucy Gray. As many times as you had hoped she would press her lips to yours again and wished you could hold her hand like a boy would a girl, you never understood why you felt that way. You would supress that feeling each and every time you felt it and went on your way to find a boy to love, which never worked out.
Your line pressed lips drew back into a slight snarl look, but you felt no anger, only despair at the realization. Falling in love with a woman, truly horrific. As odd as it sounded, you wanted to at least calm your nerves and know you were normal. Normal in the way that you loved, being held by and kissing by a boy. Your eyes were sparkling in the lackluster moonlight.
"You," You blurt out. Your tears blurred your vision, causing you to look away out of not wanting her to see you so tearful. "It's always been you, as little as I want to be."
Lucy Gray gave you a blank look before swallowing thickly, her hands pulled away from yours. “Oh,” she says quietly, looking down at her skirt covered legs.
Hesitantly, you brought your hand to wipe your tears from your eyes.
"Would you kiss me?" Lucy Gray muttered, looking down at her hands with a look of sadness. Your mouth filled with sour saliva, you desperately wanted to cry. Sob to her that something was wrong, something made you want to kiss her.
"If you were a boy, I would have kissed you so many more times than I already have," you swallowed thickly, praying you wouldn't burst into tears about the idea. It wasn't that big of a deal either. You didn't care about the fact that Barb Azure was dating a woman. Personally, you were happy for her. But you could never bring yourself to think of being with a woman in the way Lucy Gray wanted to be with you, not without thinking it was disgusting.
"If I were a boy...," Lucy Gray drew her lips back into a line after repeating your words. Her nose scrunched at your response, you knew you gave an answer she wouldn't understand. "Why must I be a boy?"
"I wouldn't feel so guilty if you were one," you answered brokenly, your voice squeaking softly. "I've always felt something for you, I've known that. No matter how many times I went out with a boy, I couldn't help wishing you were with me. I may hate myself for how I feel for you, another lady, but I will never view you with hatred because I would break my own heart."
Lucy Gray's eyes widen at your confession, her eyebrows scrunching upward. You tried taking in breaths, hoping to calm yourself from how emotional you got over a simple confession of feelings.
“You don’t like that feeling,” she said simply, as if you didn’t already know that. “I remember your parents told me not to come around a lot since they thought I was a bad influence… You told them about that, about the kiss, didn’t you?”
You didn’t look at Lucy Gray, wondering if she was just really good at hiding her anger or if she truly was not angry. Nonetheless, you nodded, finally giving her an answer. Gazing at her again, she sighed.
“It’s fine. You didn’t know they wouldn’t like what we did,” Lucy Gray answered, accepting your reaction. “It rubbed off on you too.”
You tilted your head at her words. “Rubbed off on me?”
“Yeah, they didn’t like what we did and neither did you.”
“It didn’t rub off on me,” you say defensively, hoping she would understand that you liked that kiss as much as her. You give her an angry look.
"(Y/n), why don't you want this? I like you, you like me, why can't we have something?" She inquired, almost pleaded for you to answer. "If you have something else in your life, that's ok, you can tell me."
Looking down at the empty wicker basket, you thought about her answer. She liked you and you liked her. It was already sickening enough to think too hard about that. It brought a sour feeling in your mouth.
"I don't know," you sneer and look away from her again.
"Not that good of an answer," Lucy Gray mumbled and looked down at the green grass under her feet. She was right, it wasn't a good answer.
Several minutes (or what you felt were minutes) passed by without a word from either you or Lucy Gray. Maybe it was to calm you or because there was genuinely nothing to say. But, at some point, she couldn't help giving you an offer.
“I can kiss you again, if you’d want,” she mutters, looking down at her hands which had her fingers curled around each other nervously. The idea scared you a bit, wondering if she would be as gentle as she had been so long ago. You blinked away your tears.
"What if I don't like it?" You ask, though it was more so a whisper. "There's a possibility that I won't feel kissing is my thing."
Lucy Gray took in your words and nodded quickly. "You can kiss me and see if you like it. I won't do it again if you don't feel kissing is your thing," she assures and takes a step closer.
You press your lips together, making a slightly downturned shape. "Fine," you say reluctantly, as though your heart wasn't beating faster than ever before.
"I'll be gentle with you, alright?" Lucy Gray muttered and stepped closer. It was a bit awkward, preparing yourself for the kiss you partially (fully) want.
She leaned her head forward, but the suddenness of her movement caused you to lean back cautiously.
Your hesitation caused Lucy Gray to pull away, which immediately made you grab her hand to pull her closer again. "I mean it when I said I wanted to see if anything changed," you state and tighten your grasp on her hand.
Lucy Gray nodded again and leaned closer to you, causing you to suck in a breath. Her hands go to the sides of your face, her tan fingers grazing your cheekbones, holding your face in her hands gently.
"I'm a bit nervous," you mumble, hoping to lighten the mood from how awkward it felt to get to kiss your best friend again. Lucy Gray smiled and took another step closer, which you didn't think was possible.
"That's alright," she said quietly, not trying at all to hide her grin. "I won't move too fast."
Nodding, you swallow thickly and wait for her to press her lips to yours, which came quicker than you had realized. Lucy Gray's lips were soft and warm and much more experienced than when you were young. The one you had together in your parents' garden was similar to a peck, having pressed your lips together and pushed them out, making sure her nose wouldn't touch yours.
But now, this was sweet, the kiss was sweet, she smelled sweet. Your senses seemed to heighten at the feeling of her pressed against you. You could feel her breathe through her nose, the exhale brushing your skin. You didn't try opening your eyes, hoping you wouldn't make it awkward for yourself.
Lucy Gray didn't pull away immediately, she kept you close, holding your face in her delicate grasp. The small voice in your head that made you feel that this was wrong faded out, making sure you only focused on the girl who was kissing you.
Your hands trail from your side to her arms, grasping at the soft skin of her wrist. This was what you were told to hate? This was what you didn't want yourself to have? You couldn't believe you would keep yourself far from her romantic affection, the thing you have longed for, even if younger you didn't want to admit it.
Lucy Gray finally pulled away, as much as you wished she didn't. "Did you like it?" She asked, her index finger brushing your cheek in a petting motion. She couldn't stop herself from grinning from ear to ear, obviously giddy at the romantic gesture.
Your eyes were trained on her, your face growing warm with something you could only point out as affection. Affection for Lucy Gray. Again, you were hasty to initiate the kiss yourself, your hands pushing her hands from your face so you could keep her close.
A small smile grew on Lucy Gray's lips, letting out breathes from her nose in soft spurts, mimicking a laugh. You would have laughed too if getting a kiss was your only answer too.
"If you were a boy, I would have kissed you so many more times than I already have." Thankfully, Lucy Gray didn't need to be a boy for you to kiss her, kiss her as many times as you wished, and drink up her affection like it was fine wine.

my girl 💌
lucy gray baird x fem reader
Lucy Gray would do anything for you. You want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? She’ll sell her soul to give you the day you deserve.
so much fluff, mentions of sex, 1.6k words
Tumblr media
Lucy Gray Baird has always thought of Valentine’s Day as a pointless, commercial event institutionalised by the Capitol.
The Covey has always rejected these kinds of capitalist holidays imposed solely for the purpose of making money, and Valentine’s Day is no exception to that rule. Lucy Gray doesn’t need the Capitol to tell her when she ought to celebrate her beloved. No, she’ll do that all year round. (As if the Covey don’t have their own festivities, anyway. Lucy Gray wakes you on every solstice with a bundle of flowers she’s picked from the woods, not bought, and poetic affirmations of her love.)
It hadn’t really occurred to her that you’d want to celebrate Valentine’s Day, to be honest. This is the first one you’ll be spending with her as her girlfriend, but you’ve known each other a long while and by now you’ve surely picked up on her indifference to the subject. This year she goes about her business as she always has, politely averting her gaze when she sees vendors at the Hob trying to pawn off Valentine-themed goods, and bringing you flowers or sweet little trinkets at any time she pleases. But if Lucy Gray is one thing, it’s hopelessly devoted to you, and she would do anything under the sun to bring a smile to your face. So when she hears you make an offhand comment to Tam Amber about wondering what this year’s Valentine’s Day will be like, her entire stance on the matter is instantly changed.
“You’re whipped beyond comprehension, Lu,” Barb Azure laughs as she watches her younger cousin fret over her plans.
“I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think of anythin’, Barb Azure, I just need your help,” Lucy Gray replies distractedly, kneading the dough of the bread she’s making with vigour. “So are you helpin’ me? Or no?”
On the morning of Valentine’s Day, Lucy Gray Baird kisses you awake, her smile so sweet you can taste it on your tongue.
“Mornin’, baby,” she says sweetly. She’s already up and dressed, and her skin is vibrant with the fresh-found dew of the morning. “Brought you flowers.”
“Morning, Lu,” your heart fills with warmth, “you’re the sweetest.”
“Happy Valentine’s, my sweet girl,” she murmurs, pulling you close to her, littering kisses atop of your hair. “Lord, I love you more’n anything.”
“Love you so much, Lucy Gray,” you whisper, toying with her fingers. You keep coming back to her ring finger, and solemnly swearing to yourself that someday you’ll find her a token of your love to wear upon it. Today isn’t the day — you’re both so young, still young enough to be Reaped — but you know that when the time comes you’ll give yourself over to Lucy Gray forever.
“When you’re thinkin’ that hard I can hear the bits in your brain whirring,” Lucy Gray tells you, eyes sparkling with mirth. “It’s real cute. What’s on your mind, darlin’?”
“Wanna marry you someday,” you mumble. Lucy Gray is rarely caught off guard, but this gets her, and her cheeks flood with colour. Her smile, though, only widens.
“I— it’ll happen someday, baby. I’ll make sure of it.”
You help one another get dressed, all giggles and teeth and hearts on sleeves. Outside it’s warm, the warmest it’s been all season, and you can feel winter breaking as life returns to the dormant earth beneath your feet.
“What’s today lookin’ like, Lu?” you ask.
“Thought we could go to the lake.” She grins easily at you, and it’s contagious.
The two of you amble through the woods, hand in hand, content to take your time together. The whole sweet sunny day stretches out in front of you, warm and dry (Lucy Gray takes one look at the clouds in the sky and determines today will be free of rain throughout, and in seventeen years she’s not been wrong yet) and full of love. Your eyes are fixed on her, the way hers are constantly darting around, not necessarily on guard but more eager to take in all the world has to offer. Every little detail is of significance to Lucy Gray. How her brain works is a beautiful mystery to you, but you’ve learnt she has a way of reading her surroundings, and she can see signs of the future in the earth as easily as she can breathe. Barb Azure says she’s a walking oracle. A few times she’s tried to explain to you how she notices what she does. There’s always a kind of sense to it, but you’ll never get it in the way she does. You’re more than content to sit back and watch her in her element, though. You just feel grateful to be by her side, your one and only, your angel among men.
“Look.” She stops you to point at two four-leaved clovers at the roots of a tree which have grown together so much that their stems are intertwined. “That means you’n me are forever.”
Your stomach swarms with butterflies. “Sure hope so.”
“I know so,” she tells you, brown eyes bright as she presses a kiss to your lips.
The little earthy plateau above the jetty of the lake, the one protruding from the flowers and trees, has been absolutely transformed since you saw it last. The thick, sturdy picnic blanket often used by the Covey on adventures has been laid out beautifully, and is held in secure place by rocks piled on each corner. Ever so carefully arranged atop the blanket are comfy pillows and a picnic for two, with the food set out all pretty in little jars and bowls and handkerchiefs. From where you’re stood you can see a few different kinds of bread and cake, freshly pressed jams, and fruits and berries. Even with how much of this she could’ve foraged, it shakes you how much tesserae has gone into this. Propped against the bough of a tree is her beloved guitar, with her little notebook of songs beside it.
You let out a little noise of surprise when you first lay eyes upon the scene. Lucy Gray fights a losing battle in trying not to smile at how fucking cute you are.
“What’d’you think?” she asks instead, not quite looking at you, toeing at the ground. “Barb Azure helped me with all the bakin’, n’then me’n the boys dolled it up all nice. They were real helpful.” (You know exactly what she means, too. Clerk Carmine is shaping up to be a real painter, he’s got an artist’s eye, and you know this kind of thing would be right up his street.)
You’re in awe for a moment, not even sure what to say. Lucy Gray’s dark eyes blink at you hopefully. She’d never say it, she’d rather die than say it, but you know that the ever so subtle tension to her shoulders, the slight tilt to her chin phrase a silent question.
“It… it’s so gorgeous, Lu, I can’t even, thank you,” you manage. Her posture softens and she steps forward to cup your face in her hands.
“I wanna treat you how you deserve, baby,” she tells you sincerely, and then pecks at your lips before her arms drop down to her sides again. “Now c’mon, or the damn flies’ll eat before we do.”
The two of you stay at the lake together for hours. Perhaps you wouldn’t have picked a February picnic of your own volition, but just as Lucy Gray predicted the weather’s so gorgeous you’re sure she must’ve charmed the skies the way she does with everyone else. You voice this thought to her, and she only laughs, her smile reaching her eyes as she feeds you another berry.
Eventually, as the sun begins to set above the two of you, painting the sky in pinks and golds, the air grows cooler, and you find yourself shivering in Lucy Gray’s arms. Ever-vigilant, she notices.
“Awww, is my baby cold?” she coos. “Don’t worry, I’ll warm you up.” Her hands ghost your sides teasingly, and you blush.
“Shut your mouth, Lucy Gray.”
She gasps, feigning offence. “Why, I thought you liked it wide open.”
You let out a noise of surprise, and hide your face in her hair. Lucy Gray laughs heartily, and cradles you to her, telling you over and over how sweet you are. The moon awakes her silver tongue, though, and as the skies get darker she trips you up again and again with filthy words which, eventually, turn to filthy actions.
Once the act is over, once Lucy Gray’s mouth has been put to good use, the two of you swaddle yourselves in all of the blankets and lie in a little cocoon, gazing up at the stars.
“Thank you, for today,” you whisper, so close to her that you don’t have to move at all to kiss her cheek. “Means a lot.”
She shrugs, nonchalant. “You honour our culture, you join in and all. This day was important to you, I wanted t’honour yours.”
You laugh softly. “You’re sweet. …I don’t think I would call the Districts my culture.”
“No?” Lucy Gray asks, genuinely curious. You shake your head. “What is, then?”
“Don’t know. I got nothing. Just what you teach me.”
She lets out a hum of amusement. “Yeah? You wanna be Covey?” She says it with humour, but the hope in your eyes has her straightening a little. “Y— you do?”
“If you’ll have me,” you say shyly.
Her heart swells against the bars of her chest. “If we’ll ha—? Darlin’, I want this more’n anything,” she tells you lowly. “We love you. I love you. You’re one of us.”
“I’m yours,” you whisper.
“You’re mine. I’m yours. My girl,” she murmurs, fingers beginning to comb through your hair. You press your cheek against hers, so overwhelmed with love for her, and continue to gaze up at the stars with your love.

OUR LITTLE DOVE
Tumblr media
pairings: dark!lucy gray x fem!reader, dark!coriolanus snow x fem!reader, coriolanus snow x lucy gray
summary: you reunite with your dear songbird after the games, but it seems the capitol has followed her home, and taken an interest in the two of you. but it seems lucy gray is willing to share you with a certain peacekeeper, even if you aren’t.
warnings: crazy lucy n corio conspiring like evil doers, manipulation, chasing, primal play?? is that what is called idk corio enjoys hunting your ass down, kidnapping, drugging, forced into accepting a third partner?? nc touching, abuse of power (peacekeeper), power dynamics, kinda cheating (lucy n corio), guilt-trip, jealousy, threatening, self doubt and relationship problems, murder, betrayal
word count: 3.0k
a/n: lol i complain about wanting to write fluff but all my good ideas r so dark 😭 someone needs to give me tips on how to write girls cuz i have no experience would be easier if i was gay boooo!!
he was like a shadow, stuck to your back, always.
you’d complained to lucy numerous times that you didn’t feel comfortable around him when she played at the hob, knowing he’d be there, in the crowd. “sweetie, he was my mentor. he helped me so much in the games, i wouldn’t be here without him. you love me don’t you? so you need to learn to love him too, he’s a good friend a mine. i love you and i gotta get to the stage baby.” she explained as she ran around getting herself and the covey ready.
you were always front row. wanting to be as close to lucy as possible. she looked especially majestic tonight with flowers in her hair. as you listened to her sing you’d managed to forget about the certain blonde peacekeeper near the back. but he hadn’t forgotten about you, nor lucy.
you’d left to get a drink and you’d came back to an unfamiliar tune. you usually knew every song being played off by heart but this was new.
Everyone's born as clean as a whistle
As fresh as a daisy
And not a bit crazy
Staying that way's a hard row for hoeing
she sounded as angelic as usual and the crowd around you seemed entranced.
As rough as a briar
Like walking through fire
This world, it's dark
This world, it's scary
lucy smiled at you once, just once. which threw you off since you usually got a bunch. especially during new songs and songs about you. was this not also about you?
I've taken some hits, so
No wonder I'm wary It's why
I need you
so it is about me! you thought as you closed your eyes, allowing yourself to sway to the music and singing. you’d hoped you wouldn’t miss a smile headed your way.
You're as pure as the driven snow
your eyes flew open as you stared at lucy, she was looking past you and to the peacekeeper. to coriolanus snow. you’d always been a rational person, you prided yourself on restraint but that restraint was hanging on by a thread. you wanted to jam a beer bottle into his neck. lucy was your girlfriend not his. and yet he smiled stupidly towards her as she sang and you could feel your heart clawing its way up. best to leave now rather than stay and hear more of the ever so driven man.
your head was spinning as you slumped to the floor, in one of your finest dresses yet worst mental states. of course, something had formed between the two. she was in the goddamn hunger games and he was her mentor. trauma bonding? he quite literally saved her life, coached her and you did what? sat at home and hoped.
hope could only get you so far.
your hope and faith in lucy gray baird was dwindling as her lyrics swirled in your head. of course she loved him. who wouldn’t? the man was undeniably eye catching. a capitol man. but you’d always imagined lucy staying away from the capitol, despising them. but maybe it wasn’t the captiol part but the man part. maybe she wanted a true life, a home, marriage and children and everything she could wish for.
what on earth could you provide her with?
“y/n?” it sure as hell wasn’t lucy calling out for you and you knew that. coriolanus’s reflection was prominent in the puddle before you as he neared. great, you sneered, would love to get to know you mr peacekeeper. please tell me how you stole my lovely girlfriend from me!
your chest felt oh so heavy as you heard his footsteps in the gravel, determined and unwavering as he made his way to your slumped body. “what do you want? you wanna gloat?” coriolanus stopped in his tracks, gloat? “why would i gloat?” you looked up at him annoyed, “rub it in my face. you practically stole my girlfriend from me.” coriolanus laughed. actually laughed and it made you want to strangle him with his stupid dog tags.
“sweetheart.” vomit. you wanted to vomit. maybe choking and dying on your vomit would be less embarrassing then this. why on earth was this fuck head calling you his sweetheart. “fuck off.”
you didn’t see him coming. and you certainly didn’t expect his demeanour to snap. but the large hand tangled in your open hair was a big slap in the face to your unreadiness. “you of all people don’t get to talk to me like that. do you know who you’re talking to?” you could hear his perfect porcelain teeth grinding at your words. god this man couldn’t handle an insult. wuss.
“what the hell is your- ow! problem!” you yelped as he dragged you into an alleyway. “you need to learn how to respect your superiors. if you’re nice to me, i can make your life easier. doesn’t it hurt? not being able to fully provide for your family? seeing them struggle? do you really think disrespecting a peacekeeper is going to help? i suggest you straighten your act and thank me for even looking your way. there are plenty of other girls here.”
but he didn’t want those other girls. he wanted you. you with the teary eyes and messy hair. you who he’d been seeing in his dreams and during the day. you with the kind smile and curious eyes. you who were so sweet and pretty but mean when need be. the y/n who was stupid enough to spit such hateful words at a peacekeeper. but he’d teach you. whether it be with words and lessons or actions and bruises. you’d learn your place, by his side and lucy’s, and underneath. but with such fearful, brown doe eyes watering up infront of him, the girl he’d heard oh so much about from lucy. how could he refrain from indulging?
his hand reached out to wipe away the few stray tears that fell as his left extended towards your right, which was clutching your head, where he’d grabbed you. “shh, let me help you.” your hand slowly retracted as your heart ran a marathon. the man was obviously unstable, going from a deceptively caring man to violent. coriolanus smiled at your actions, and it freaked you out. he caressed your scalp in an attempt to soothe, “good girl.” he cooed as your apparent saviour approached.
“sweetie?” lucy called out to you as coriolanus withdrew from your personal space. he walked over to her and she let him. he held her hand and spoke with, love? his voice was soft and comforting, his thumb again caressing the back of her hand as they talked, whispered, plotted? god knows, all you wanted was to leave.
was this your chance?
you tested the waters, slow and calculated movements as lucy nodded in agreement with him. but by the time they were done speaking you’d bolted.
but you sure as hell weren’t getting far with these two on your tail, poor y/n l/n. a little dove trying to spread her wings but they were bound to be clipped.
your feet were throbbing and begging for you to slow down. but your brain was in charge for once, your heart which yearned for your dear songbird pushed to the side as your head screamed and urged you to go. she was in league with him apparently. her seeing him corner you and not even batting an eyelash. did she truly care for you so little? did she want to rid herself of you? she could’ve broken up with you and let that be it. maybe the games had twisted her head.
even as you believed yourself to be gaining distance from the two you could hear the not-so distant steps of determined pursuit, headed your way. how would they kill you? slow and intimate? hasty and brutal?
“if you stop running now we won’t be mad little dove!” lucy shouted in warning as you felt yourself momentarily slow at her words. traitor. you thought to yourself as your body involuntary listened, she still had an affect on you. “she’s right, we love you, we won’t hurt you. unless we have to, don’t give us our reasons.”
“shut up!” you screamed. god, i know we haven’t talked in a while. last minute efforts right? maybe he’d listen to you, save you from your tormentors. you should’ve kept your head clear, focused on running. focused on your surroundings and if you had, you would’ve noticed the nearing tree roots, thick and protruding from the ground, ready to knock you down.
you crawled behind the tree, trying to catch your breath as your hands worked tirelessly to provide some form of relief to your aching ankle.
crack.
you’d been found. you fucked up.
“our little dove, ever the sprinter.”
his words had you lurching forwards in an attempt of fleeing but lucy’s cold hand on your ankle dragged protests and cries from your throat as well as you, back to them. “you should’ve listened before, we would’ve been nice. given you some time to adjust, but you can’t sit and think for a second can you?” coriolanus mocked as his hand trailed up your un-injured leg, “that’s okay, you won’t be doing much thinking from now on. we’ll be taking care of you, since you obviously can’t take care a’ yourself baby.” lucy’s voice was saccharine, like honey, and her smile was even sweeter. the familiarity and comfort of her presence was intoxicating, you felt at peace on one side and the other wanted to jump off a cliff. she lowered your guard and coriolanus slithered right in.
the prick in the side of your neck wasn’t painful, but their words were. “you’re with us now, we’ll take care of you, we promise.” and you were stuck, stuck with them for god knows how long.
you blinked away the sleep in your eyes, adjusting to the room. maybe they had killed you? in their own twisted way they’d keep you forever, in their memories and soul. coriolanus and lucy’s voices swam around your head and blended together. you were wrong. yay.
“it’s a bit early for katniss, even if it’s one of her favourites.”
“she should eat something better.”
“better? don’t go all capitol on me now corio.”
he was smiling, you could tell.
“never lucy gray. but she’ll be weak for a few days, proper meals will help her regain some strength.”
you picked your head up and looked through the window, the lake was evident.
“alright, you go grab it and i’ll stay here.”
“why? so you can get more time with her? if anyone should get extra time it’s me.”
“now who was her partner first? oh that’s right, me. you’re acting as if i’m gonna pick her up and run away. if you’re that scared than we’ll both go. take her with us.”
coriolanus’s head whipped towards the cabin and you quickly flopped back down on the bed. you shut your eyes as you heard the door creak open. “gosh, doesn’t she look pretty?” lucy asked, knowing the answer already. “so calm, i liked her better when she was crying.” lucy hit him, “coriolanus snow!” he stroked the side of your face and you had to resist from turning your head and biting his fingers off.
“little dove.” your eyes opened again, turning your head his way tiredly. “we need to get some supplies okay?” you nodded as lucy went outside to gather the baskets she’d left out earlier on to dry. coriolanus’s hand dug into your cheeks as he forced you to look at him, “i told you i’d make you respect me. now listen, if you try anything when we’re in town i will never let you forget it. you’ll know who you belong to every single day. maybe i’ll pay your family a visit? an appointment with the hanging tree for being rebels? stealing?”
you shook your head violently as you began to cry, “you don’t want that? didn’t think so. you listen to me and everything will be fine. your family will get daily help and weekly groceries. they’ll never go hungry again. all thanks to their sweet little girl. lucy’s too nice, but don’t think for a second she’ll save you from me. you’re mine and if you try anything.” he leaned in to whisper, “i’ll strangle her with my bare hands infront of you.” his words were meant to scare you, and they did. but don’t you know? coriolanus snow doesn’t need a reason to do bad things.
coriolanus was wicked and ruthless when it came to what he wanted, if you had any hope of trying to get through this then you’d need lucy’s attention and help. so you nodded. “words sweetheart.” you swallowed your pride, your dignity, and you shook hands with the devil.
“yes, i’ll do what you say.” he straightened up, his white shirt a contrast to his dark thoughts.
“y’all ready to go?” lucy questioned as coriolanus grinned, “yes, yes we are.” he lifted you up and helped you dress, you hadn’t realised the fact that you were only dressed in his own white shirt, dress to you. he handled you like you were the most delicate object. as if he wasn’t hell bent on breaking you, over and over again. till you were fit to his standards. the captiol standards. the snow standards.
his, his, his.
with how obedient you were, he figured you’d do well in the capitol. which was exactly where he was meaning to bring you.
lucy walked in front of the two of you as you made your way through the woods. coriolanus’s hand was glued to your waist as he held you close, afraid to let go. you were at flight risk of course. his grip was tight and bruising. lucy’s humming distracted you at times, if you were delusional enough you could imagine it to be the two of you. your brothers far infront and the covey following. after an amazing afternoon at the lake, heading home for dinner, maybe a performance or the night shift.
your daydreaming was interrupted when you clocked coriolanus’s missing hand from your waist, and his arm now around lucy grays throat.
don’t you remember? you’d do well in the capitol! you were his! but not entirely, no.
not with her in the way.
you were frozen in place as lucy clawed at him before reaching out for you. a plea, a cry for help and aid yet you stood stuck in fear. a minute, two. she’d put up a strong fight, especially when you ran towards the two, pushing and shoving at coriolanus to let her go. but again, you fucked up.
here lies lucy gray baird, singer, victor, psycho.
obsessed? madly in love? you couldn’t think of another word, and as much as you wished to forget her, forget how she’d practically allowed another man into your relationship and let him kidnap you. her lifeless face and hollow eyes made your heart clench. but soon enough she was rolled over, thrown in a pre-made hole and buried. she’d survived the games but no one survived coriolanus snow.
“don’t forget what i said. don’t forget what you agreed to. you said you’d do as i say, i’m telling you to get up and follow me. we’re leaving district 12.” your face was painted with confusion as coriolanus clutched your face, “i’m going back, and you’re coming with me. don’t ask questions, just do as i say.”
and you did.
when he had you say goodbye to your family, a courtesy, a privilege he’d granted you. you kept it short and sweet, no questions just hugs and false promises of return.
when he ushered you onto the train and he wanted you to sit and be silent, you did.
through his time at the university, he wanted you close to him, living with him. and you did.
through his presidency campaign he wanted for you to charm sponsors and entice newcomers. you did.
when he wanted to marry you in a grand spectacle infront of the captiol and dress you up, you did as he asked.
when he held you down on your wedding night after tearing your dress off, biting and marking you down all over, pushing you down to your knees and took you all over the house, asking you to give yourself to him as if he didn’t take you anyways, you did.
you had no idea why at this point.
for your family? who hadn’t reached out in so long, even when they promised to talk to you every day? coriolanus had them all arrested, punished and hung for inciting riots and uprisings.
for your friends whom listened to your concerns of the capitol peacekeeper who hovered and didn’t make you feel crazy? each of them ended up dead in many different ways, hung, shot, a mugging gone wrong.
you didn’t know at this point and when you looked in the mirror you didn’t recognise the girl who stared back. a captiol sheep, dressed up in the finest silk dresses and slick heels yet the filth underneath the finery, jewels, and makeup weighed you down. each time he touched you, kissed you, fucked you, it felt like a peace of yourself was thrown away.
and as you clutched your swelling stomach, you couldn’t help but feel pity for baby number four.
maybe you’d grow up and find love.
maybe i’ll be able to take you all away from him.
maybe we’ll heal.
you thought, but in the back of your head, a little voice wouldn’t shut up.
you’ll always be his little dove.

You’d hardly known Lucy Gray Baird for more than an hour when you found yourself under the sheets with the charmer. See — you went to the Hob with your friends for a little break from everything, work, stress, sobriety, everything. They told you about a good band that liked to play there some days, and were playing tonight. The music was nothing short of a delight, but that voice, that voice did it for you.
When you made eye contact with the pretty singer she smiled, dark, beautiful eyes shining. It was like a little hello just for you. She twirled, and was soon dancing around the little stage. You’d gotten there late unfortunately, so you only got about six songs from them before the show was over, however, you refused to leave it at that.
You asked around your friends and some drunken peacekeepers and discovered that they were the covey band, and the singer was Lucy Gray Baird, they also told you where to find them. You were worried that Lucy Gray wouldn’t want to see or talk to you, she probably smiled at crowd members all the time, but to your surprise her eyes lit up when she saw you. You two clicked fast, and made friendly conversation and you unconsciously followed her as she walked through the seam. The whole atmosphere shrouded with the dark of nighttime.
Almost like a siren, she lead you to her bed, of course, by the time you reached her home and she invited you in you knew what was happening. You were not opposed in the slightest, though a little worried about how she may react to your body.
Lucy Gray’s eyes glazed over as you lined up with her pretty cunt. “Is this okay?” You whisper against the skin of her neck, making her shiver. “M—mhm..” she whimpers out.  You slowly press into her, it’s difficult, and she’s painfully tight. Tears well up in her eyes but she squeezes them shut, whimpering under you.
“Shh…” You hush her softly and she covers her own mouth to prevent the noise. “M’sorry..” she whispers, letting out a squeak when you press deeper. You groan out a curse, and push in the rest of the way. Lucy Gray’s eyes widen and her back arches up nearly instantly. Hearing her muffled whimpers, you thrust slowly, trying to be at least a little bit gentle.
“Is that good? Do you like that?” You hiss in her ear, she tightens her grip on your back. “Fuck me harder.” She pleads, and you certainly aren’t one for denial. You press in and out, in and out, over and over in a way that has both of you panting and moaning in passionate pleasure. “Mmmph…” she moans, muffled against your shoulder.
You spread her legs wider and fuck her harder, feeling yourself getting closer. You’d have to pull out soon, surely that would be for the best. You feel sweat on the back on your neck and pant out raggedly, “Good girl, almost there.” Lucy Gray whines at your praise, and her legs suddenly wrap around your waist pinning you against her warm cunt. You grit your teeth, unable to hold on much longer.
“Lucy Gray,” you speak to her, “Lucy Gray I have to pull out—“ you try to say in a panic. Lucy Gray locks her ankles together and tightens her grip. “Breed me.” She moans the words breathily. Those words make you grind into her, and your vision go white, you vaguely register the sensation of warm wetness. Lucy Gray’s back was arched when you came back to, still slowly rocking against her. You force yourself to stop and pull away from her, untangling her legs from around you.
“Did you cum?” You ask her in a hush voice, and she nods, still panting. “Good, that’s good.” You respond, collapsing on the bed beside her. She leans her face into your arm with a little sigh. “That was nice, I liked it. Even if we made a mess.” You can hear the smirk in Lucy Gray’s voice. “I feel like you planned that.” She shrugs with a smile. “Maybe, it’s a mystery sweetheart, just like me.”

Note: Hihiii! Sorry this too so long sweetheart I’ve had some work! Thank you for the request, I hope you enjoy it even if it’s a little short <3
