Ehehehe, love this.

I imagine that eventually they become a superb fighting duo. However, it takes a bit of a learning curve to get there.

The problem, of course, is that Kieran is over-focused on the rivalry between Oscar and him. So when he should be paying attention to the battle, he keeps getting distracted every time he catches a glance of that green hair and squinty-eyes gaze he knows and loves loathes so much.

It gets to the point where Kieran accuses Oscar of trying to sabotage him by deliberately showing off when he knows Kieran is nearby.

This couldn’t be further from the proof. Oscar is the type of guy who is very single-minded on the battlefield. If something isn’t relevant to the fight, he’s not paying attention to it. So he is understandably baffled by Kieran’s embarrassing accusation.

And because there’s no such thing as privacy amongst an army, soon word spreads that Kieran can’t take his eyes off of Oscar.

Soon, there are two camps of people. The larger portion thinks Kieran is an idiot who is too wrapped up in his ego to realize how stupid he sounds, and how little everybody cares about his supposed rivalry with Oscar.

The other portion (correctly) surmises that Kieran’s fixation on Oscar is motivated by romantic interest that he either refuses to acknowledge or simply hasn’t yet realized.

Oscar tries his best to ignore the rumors, but. Unfortunately, it follows him wherever he goes.

It gets to the point that Oscar starts to get self-conscious when he’s fighting near Kieran, because what if Kieran is watching him again? What if Kieran decides that Oscar is showing off, and he does something reckless in the hopes of showing him up?

Things come to a head when Kieran finally catches wind of the second camp of rumors.

His first reaction is to be outraged. Oscar is his rival, nothing more! Why do the common people not understand the very simple concept of a platonic rivalry? Of course he admires Oscar’s many good qualities as much as they infuriate him, because it’s those traits that make him qualified to be Kieran’s rival. And there is nothing odd or unusual about one man admiring another man’s physique! Kieran has eyes, and Oscar is objectively a very handsome man. What is supposed to do? Not notice the evidence right in front of him??

Suffice to say, things get a little… awkward between Kieran and Oscar for a while.

Eventually, Kieran calls for a truce. Neither of them will attempt to steal the glory for themselves on the battlefield. Instead, they will temporarily put aside their rivalry in the name of fighting for a shared goal.

Well, that’s what Oscar thought they were doing in the first place, but he decides not to say anything, and agrees to those terms.

Still, it isn’t until they reunite in RD that they truly start to shine as a power duo. Both of them have changed in the three years they’ve been apart, and so they have a chance to start anew. They understand one another better, to the point where they learn how to communicate without words, and how to predict each other’s actions on the battlefield.

Even with all that, though, it still takes another year for Kieran to finally get a clue.

Thanks for the prompt!! I was hoping I’d get one for this couple. Oscar/Kieran is a vastly underappreciated ship in this fandom, in my humble opinion. There’s so much potential for humor! And a whole lotta UST.

I know you people (you know who you are) love Sez so i'm going to talk about him. i didn't realize his name was a typo away from sex until well after i first put art of him into the world but. eh. for those of you who don't know who he is he's the transgender angel boxer.

This guy's in A world between the lines- i consider it (like. most of my writing) a pretty wierd story so i can't promise any of this is going to make sense, but the universe he came from was destroyed, which led him to find himself in Pathologica, a city-state-thing in between universes run by a robot dictator that named the city state after itself. anyways. Sez ended up becoming a boxer, who had to fight all the goddamn time, often without getting any time to recover. Naturally, this wasn't the greatest for his mental health, and he quickly became just very very sad and. all of his worth (and in Pathos's eyes, his life) lies in the hands of whatever upper class people in Pathologica find entertaining. eventually One shows up on his doorstep needing someplace to stay and he finds her a lot like a less jaded version of himself.... i'm also so fucking obsessed with him like he's currently very sad but he's also just a wack as shit guy....... kind of guy to get told by a cosmic entity he's gonna need to give up something in order to leave his currently being destroyed universe and to go "take my tits i don't need em". kind of guy to be depressed as all hell living in the world's worst city and still take in a stranger who is 100% a wanted criminal.

oskieran & snow

Oooooh, I love this!

Immediately, I was hit with the idea of Kieran being one of those people who is violently opposed to the very idea of snow. You know, the type that flinch when they hear the word snow.

Instead, Kieran refers to snow as “the white devil”, and he is so absolutely overdramatic about his virulent hatred of the stuff that Oscar cannot help but tease him.

Any time the opportunity is presented, Oscar will mention snow. Such as, “I think it might snow tonight”, just so that he can watch Kieran act like Oscar jinxed everyone for daring to say the dreaded “s word” aloud.

Oscar himself is very neutral towards snow. It can be annoying, sure, but he has fond memories of playing in the snow with his brothers.

Every winter after they start dating, Oscar will attempt to get Kieran to join him in some fun winter activities, such as building a snowman or having a snowball fight. Kieran protests a lot at first, but he eventually gets into the spirit of it, especially when it comes to having a snowball fight.

Even so, Kieran will complain pitifully the moment his fingers get too cold, in a way that always reminds Oscar of a wet kitten.

So Oscar will try to placate his lover with a warm drink and a meal, and by building a mountain of quilted clothes atop Kieran’s body. And Oscar will tease him about how much fun he had with “the white devil”, all while planting kisses on the tip of his nose, which is almost as red as his hair.

Kieran pretends that he hates it, but they both know he loves the attention.

oskieran in the three year gap

Ooooh, another great oskieran prompt!!

I’m going to break this down into sections, since a lot happens during that three year gap. Also, I am mostly assuming a lot of things about what happens when during this game, bc this duology loves to be super vague with timelines and also loves to contradict itself.

Immediately following the end of the Mad King’s War, Kieran is extremely busy during the reconstruction of Crimea, and devotes himself entirely to this task.

(I headcanon that he sort of envisions himself as being married to Crimea, the way a nun would be married to God. Yes, he is a staunch nationalist. Somehow this translates to him being in love with the concept of Crimea. No, this does not make sense to anyone but Kieran.)

At this point in time, the mercenaries are also staying in Melior, but their paths rarely cross with Kieran. While Kieran is out helping with the physical reconstruction of Crimea’s infrastructure, the Greil Mercenaries are supporting Queen Elincia as she attempts to restore order within the political sphere. For some reason, this task involves interacting with a lot of nobles. Oscar would much rather be out helping the royal knights, but he feels responsible for ensuring his politically incompetent brothers don’t screw anything up.

So for the first year passes without much incident. Kieran and Oscar are both so busy that neither of them thinks much about anything else. And they still do see each other now and again, even if they rarely have the opportunity to properly catch up, so they don’t miss each other too much.

Things start to slow down partway through the second year. Queen Elincia has more or less established her authority, and the bulk of damage done to Crimea’s landscape has been fixed.

So while Kieran and Oscar still have their separate duties, they also have more time to think about one another.

In Kieran’s mind, he begins to miss the competitive rivalry he had with Oscar, and, believing that Oscar must be bored without any purpose in his life (purposefully ignoring the fact that the Greil Mercs still do take mercenary jobs on the side when they can), Kieran decides that this is the perfect opportunity to attempt to get Oscar to join the royal knights again!

As for Oscar, he finds himself surprised by the fact that he actually… misses Kieran? So when Kieran starts seeking Oscar out again, Oscar finds that he enjoys Kieran’s company more than he imagined he ever could.

Additionally, Oscar is starting to realize some things. It seems like there might be some truth to the rumors that Kieran’s supposed hatred of him is in fact a thinly veiled attempt to conceal his very real attraction to Oscar. And while flattered, Oscar doesn’t initially see himself as someone who could return those feelings.

And it’s not bc Oscar isn’t into men. I hc him as bisexual, and him being very comfortable with that identity, though due to his private nature, he tends not to talk about it.

So it’s not that he is put off by the idea of dating a man. Especially a man as handsome as Kieran.

It’s only… well, Oscar still really doesn’t know how to feel about Kieran’s rivalry shtick. To what extend is Kieran being genuine? Does he not realize how ridiculous he sounds? What would it take for Kieran to finally acknowledge his true feelings for what they are?

It’s more than Oscar can handle, especially when his main priority is supporting his family.

And if he occasionally wonders what it would be like to actually spend time with Kieran as a lover, rather than a “rival”, well, nobody else needs to know.

Then comes the day Ike decides to throw away his noble title and return to the simple life of a mercenary, far away from the viper’s den that is the Crimean court. And while part of Oscar is reluctant to leave Melior, he won’t abandon his family.

Unfortunately, Ike’s decision coincides with Kieran’s group being out on a mission for several days, so Oscar doesn’t get a chance to say goodbye.

But it’s okay, he thinks. Kieran probably won’t even notice his absence.

And, well, it does take a week or two for Kieran to start wondering why he hasn’t bumped into Oscar recently, but once he discovers the truth, he is overcome with a flurry of emotions he doesn’t understand. He feels betrayed and hurt, though he tries to mask it as anger. Over time, his fury fades, leaving him apathetic. His usual fiery spark has all but vanished.

Luckily, Lucia picks up on Kieran’s switch in attitude quickly, and informs her brother. Cue Geoffrey’s awkward but sincere attempts to cheer Kieran up.

No, Geoffrey does not know why Kieran seems so upset over having lost his rival. But that doesn’t stop him from having Kieran’s back.

Then the events in the first part of RD happen. By the time Oscar and Kieran reunite, the latter is back to his usual, cheerful self, whereas Oscar realizes yet again how much he has missed Kieran’s presence in his life.

ohhh my god its worlds loserest guy time...

ok ok so. i realize ive never really spoken about what his whole deal is but,,,,

so he works for the government right. and since like a fuckton of fancytown people disappeared and reappeared at the exact same time they want to know what's going on. and, of course, while looking into what went on, they notice that one person (don jovi) was also involved with a murder investigation a while ago, so so they keep digging deeper and oh! looks like the detectives who did that seem pretty competent! so, under the guise of being another normal client, he shows up, hoping the drawtectives will help figure out what went on with the disappearances/reappearances. he has no idea the people he's talking to were directly involved in what went down. he's trying to get them to investigate eugene and a fuck ton of incompetent dumbass stuff happens.
