Lü Dongbin is a legendary Chinese scholar and poet who lived during the Tang dynasty whose lifetime supposedly spanned two hundred and twenty years. Elevated to the status of an immortal in the Chinese cultural sphere by Daoists, he is one of the most widely known of the group of deities known as the Eight Immortals. Lü is also a historical figure and mentioned in the official history book History of Song. He is widely considered to be one of the earliest masters of neidan, or internal alchemy. He is also depicted in art dressed as a scholar carrying a sword to dispel evil spirits.

the thing about link click is that despite all the time travel and other action-focused stuff, everything is ddriven by love. platonic love, romantic love, familial love (both biological and not). and cheng xiaoshi is the centre of all of it.
emma's fate was all because she loved her family. the noodle ladies found each other again because they loved each other. chen xiao loved so much - his team, the girl, his mother. liu siwen fought every year to be with his true love. doudou's family hung onto hope because they loved their son. xu shanshan and dong yi were an adorable college romance. li tianchen and li tianxi did everything because they loved each other. chen bin loves his wife and unborn child dearly. qiao ling and cheng xiaoshi protect each other because of love. lu guang is doing what he does because of love.
and at the heart of all this is cheng xiaoshi. he tries to convince emma to live. he delivered chen xiao's heartfelt messages. he brought doudou back. he granted chen bin a little more happiness etc etc. none of link click would happen without cheng xiaoshi as the main character, because nobody has as big of a heart as him, and nobody else can shoulder the weight of so much love on their hands

Saints Not Gods
We all hear people accused of “treating people like gods,�� from politicians to tech entrepreneurs to actors. We may make such accusations, and might even be the targets of such criticisms. It’s something that got me thinking recently, noting the worshipful way people approached individuals over the years.
However, when I think about it when we say people are “treating others as gods” we’re actually not saying what we think we’re saying.
Consider when people approach another human being, from a podcaster to a writer, in an almost religious way. They praise their talent and vision and knowledge and whatever, but they also treat them as infallible. Such worshipped people aren’t just talented or beautiful, but morally accurate and superior.
Know what? Doesn’t sound like they’re gods to me.
Even a passing acquaintance with any mythology reveals that your average set of deities isn’t perfect. They are powerful, they are beautiful, they are wise or talented in their sphere of action. However they’re not what we’d call perfect in a moral way, because they are beings of specific spheres and inclinations and powers. Indeed some of my favorite myths are of the peccadilloes of the gods, from Thoth’s wordiness to Hermes’ tricky plays to Lu-Dong Bin’s post-Immortality love affairs.
Gods may have something to say but they’re not perfect creatures in the moral sense in most cases. Maybe that’s what makes them so accessible, since neither are we. They’re relatable.
I think when people get strangely religious about other humans and attribute to them some great moral meaning, they’re being treated as saints. They’re being treated as some morally perfect being, unquestionable, the same way a saint is seen as some approved-by-a-superior-being creature. They are being treated as perfect.
Which let us be honest, is often hilarious because people find some of the biggest dinks to worship. Like the more messed up they are the harder the worshipers work to act like they’re some moral paragon.
So next time someone talks of another human being who is treated like a god, ask if they really mean saint. Because it seems too often that’s what people really mean.

Sejujurnya tidak ada ekspektasi berlebih saat melihat unggahan seorang rekan yang menampilkan sebuah game variety show yang tersedia di platform ott berwarna merah, sampai akhirnya gue menyaksikan sendiri acara tersebut dan yah, jadinya susah move on.
The Devil’s Plan adalah sebuah permainan survival asal Korea Selatan yang terdiri dari 12 pemain. Kedua belas orang ini tinggal bersama selama seminggu untuk memecahkan permainan yang membutuhkan logika berpikir dan strategi yang tepat. Bidak adalah instrumen penting dalam permainan ini, karena dalam setiap permainan para pemain diharapkan mampu mengumpulkan bidak sebanyak-banyaknya. Jika melakukan kesalahan maka pengurangan bidak pun tidak dapat dihindari. Tak hanya bidak, dalam permainan ini juga ada ‘penjara’ yang diperuntukan bagi pemain yang mempunyai bidak paling sedikit.
Namanya juga permainan, maka akan ada yang kalah dan yang menang. Hadiah maksimal yang akan diterima oleh pemenang adalah 500.000 juta won, jika para pemain mampu menyelesaikan permainan berhadiah. Sedangkan yang kalah akan tereliminasi dan mengemas barang miliknya dari rumah tinggal bersama.
Variety show ini terdiri dari 12 episode, dan untunglah saat gue melihat varshow ini episodenya udah lengkap alias udah selesai, jadi gak perlu penasaran untuk menunggu kelanjutannya setiap minggu. Pada episode pertama, dijelaskan bagaimana aturan main dari the devil’s plan dan dijelaskan secara singkat profile para pemain. Berhubung gue kenalnya hanya Ha Seok Jin, maka sedari awal dukungan gue ada padanya. Namun bukan berarti gue gak mendukung pemain lainnya, hanya saja pemain yang gue dukung tereliminasi dibabak-babak awal, hikss.

Permainan dalam acara ini pada dasarnya tidak hanya diformulasikan untuk mengandalkan kemampuan individu setiap pemainnya, tapi ada masa saat permainan berhadiah, dibutuhkan kerjasama tim dari masing-masing pemain untuk mengamankan hadiah uang tunai agar hadiah maksimalnya tidak berkurang. Cuma yah namanya permainan kan gak mungkin juga semua pemain ‘lemah’ diselamatkan dalam aliansi yang diciptakan oleh salah seorang pemain.
TBH, ketika menonton ini dan ada istilah aliansi gue membatin “lah kok yah kerjasama sih mainnya, buat tim-tim gitu, gak yakin sama kemampuan diri sendiri?” Apalagi ada moment ketika salah satu favorit gue yang ‘dikhianati’ karena si penghianat memberitahukan angka pemain favorit gue ke ‘pemimpin’ aliansi itu. Gedek gue pas nontonnya. Mana si penghianatnya pake nangis segala lagi pas orang-orang yang dia khianati tereliminasi. Gue be like “Ya elahhh, kan lu yang buat mereka gagal, kenapa mesti nangis segala. Drama”
Dari beberapa permainan yang mereka mainkan, gue paling bisa ikutan menjawab pada saat game susun kata dengan tema-tema tertentu. Kata yang mereka temukan lalu disusun secara vertikal. Game menyatukan puzzle sebuah gambar juga gue paham aturan permainannya, cuma pas liat waktu pengerjaannya yang super kilat kayaknya gue juga kalau ada di posisi itu yang ada malah gemetaran dan gak bisa fokus. Lalu ada juga game yang membutuhkan kemampuan hapalan tingkat tinggi dari setiap detail gambar yang ditampilkan. Dalam game ini gue angkat topi untuk penampilan seorang pemain yang menyapu bersih pertanyaannya dan membuat jumlah hadiah bertambah 100 juta atau 50 juta won gitu.
Permainan ‘rendah-tinggi’ yang dibuat berdasarkan persamaan matematika pun gue paham aturan mainnya, cuma pas mereka hitung dan menyusun persamaannya dalam tempo sesingkat-singkatnya gue berpikir “kalau gue yang di sana, pake kalkulator aja biar cepat.”
Tak melulu soal hapalan dan angka, dalam acara ini juga diperlukan strategi yang tepat dan efisien untuk menjadi pemenangnya. Makanya ada yang berpendapat untuk membentuk aliansi saja, padahal bisa jadi aliansi yang diciptakan itu seyogyanya rasa insecure si pencetus biar saingan yang dia anggap berpotensi bisa dia eliminasi lebih dulu dengan bantuan aliansinya tersebut.
Pengamatan yang jeli juga dibutuhkan untuk dapat bertahan sampai babak final dalam permainan ini. Mengamati mana partner yang beneran tulus ingin bekerja sama atau manipulatif semata. Serta memperhatikan tiap benda yang ada disekitar, mana tau ada yang menjadi kunci jawaban untuk permainan selanjutnya.
Overall, gue suka banget sama variety show ini selain 2 days 1 night nya Mas Seon Ho haha.
Kalau di 2 day 1 nights, gue bisa puas ngakak ngeliat tingkah pola ngang-ngong dan polos-polos bego kadang pinter juga sih Seon Ho. Kalau The Devil’s Plan memicu otak gue untuk berpikir dan mencari strategi yang win-win solution ditambah asupan visual yang buat rasa charming gue ke pemuda pintar berkacamata naik berkali-kali lipat, hahaha..

"Pak, kita tu suatu saat harus bisa berkembang kan? Ga boleh stuck kaya gini terus kan Pak, hidupnya?" Tanyaku dengan penuh rasa penasaran dan antusias.
Sebuah pertanyaan yang terlontar beberapa tahun lalu. Saat ego masih sangat tak terkendali dan mungkin masih sangat sedikit pula hal yang bisa dicerna oleh kepala.
Saat itu Bapak hanya tersenyum, atau lebih tepatnya menyeringai. Tak lama kemudian dia kembali menyeruput kopinya yang mulai dingin lalu merebahkan tubuhnya di sofa.
"Emangnya berkembang yang kaya gimana dulu? Yang kamu maksud berkembang itu apanya?" Ucapnya seraya menatap mataku hangat.
"Ya kita harus bisa lebih dari ini dari segi pendidikan, karier, gaya hidup mungkin." Kataku.
Sayangnya saat itu tak ada jawaban, dia hanya tersenyum dan lagi-lagi menyeruput kopinya hingga habis.

Tahun demi tahun berlalu hingga pada satu waktu, dimana aku memacu motorku secara perlahan. Saat itu aku bersama seorang sahabatku yang berada di jok belakang.
Membicarakan banyak hal lalu sampai pada kalimat;
"Om gue tu kerja di BIN, istrinya juga kowad, dia yang kerjanya kawal Presiden kemana-mana. Anaknya juga gila-gilaan. Dua anaknya di STIN.
Tapi lu tau ga si, segede itu rumahnya, tetep ga bisa nampung Nenek gue. Maksud gue, gantian gitu, kan anaknya bukan cuma Mama gue doang." Celotehnya
"Tapi lo suka ketemu sama mereka?" Tanyaku
"Engga, bahkan sama anak pertamanya aja gue kaya ga kenal weeh. Lebaran aja hampir ga ada silaturahmi. Kadang gue ngerasa mereka tu lebih orang lain dari pada orang lain, gitu."
Singkat cerita akhirnya kami sampai pada sebuah gerai ayam geprek, memesan dua porsi ayam lalu duduk dan menunggu pesanan datang.
Semakin lama waktu yang dihabiskan maka semakin banyak pula cerita yang dia sampaikan.
Satu pernyataan yang kemudian mengejutkan adalah;
"Kita tu ga boleh stuck di sini-sini aja. Gue mau hidup gue kedepannya bisa lebih baik. Anak-anak gue pendidikannya bisa lebih tinggi dari gue, ekonomi gue juga bisa lebih baik dari sebelumnya. Gue juga pengen dong bisa eksplor banyak hal." Jelasnya.
Sesaat setelah mendengar itu aku tersenyum. Kemudian kembali teringat pada satu pertanyaan yang tak terjawab beberapa tahun lalu.
Hanya saja, setelah mendengar itu aku jadi paham sekaligus malu. Oh ya, mungkin ini yang ada dalam kepala Bapak saat itu.

Time for some more fic recs because its been awhile since I did them!
1. 幻想农场 (Fantasy Farm)
Author: 西子绪
Farming/slice of life, food fic, supernatural, mythology
Summary [taken from novel updates]:
After being fired, Lu Qingjiu finally decided to return to his hometown to farm.
At first, he started raising a pig, and then he found that the pig could solve more high-level math questions than he could.
After that, he started raising a flock of chickens, and then he found that his own fighting ability was one-tenth of that of a single chicken.
Finally, Lu Qingjiu finally realised that this old home wasn’t quite right… Especially a certain person by his side who constantly stared at him day in and day out.
Lu Qingjiu: “Are you drooling because of the spicy stir-fry I’m holding or because of me?”
Bai Yuehu pointed at the stir-fry.
Lu Qingjiu: “Then can you let go??”
Bai Yuehu reluctantly glanced at Lu Qingjiu’s arm, before loosening his teeth.
Comments:
My first thought is: don’t read this fic when you’re hungry. Every chapter is filled with delicious descriptions of food that’ll make one’s mouth water. The novel makes a lot of references to creatures from the Classics of the Mountains and Seas, which is a delight to learn about. An easy-to-read, fun novel.

There, You Huo meets lnvigiIator 001 who seems to hoId a key to the past he no Ionger remembered and, together, they go through the exam, unravelling the mysteries behind their past and the system.
Tldr: A pair of chaotic madmen work together to go against the examination system while feeding the readers dogfood.
Comments:
I admit that I didn’t like the story when I first started reading it. But as the story progresses, the rules of the examination fall into place and the different examinations got very challenging and interesting. The whole power couple and stranger-to-lover tropes are an added highlight.

The three iron rules of the towers: (1) The towers shall explain everything. (2) The game time starts from 6:00 - 18:00. (3) All players please try their best to attack and defeat the towers.
Comments:
Another suspenseful infinite flow stories. I love the smart power couple dynamic, how the two of them become powerful when they collaborate, but are also equally capable of defeating the towers’ levels by themselves. Moreover, all the characters don’t have your typical “oh let me be a hero and save everyone” complex. They all weighed the benefits and costs at each turn and are capable of making decisions that best maximize their chances of survival - whether that is ruthlessly killing other players or extending a saving hand. All the powers and items that the players received and the world-building are very unique (especially Tang Mo’s and his book haha). This one is gonna challenge your brain a bit, but definitely worth a read.

Chi Xiaochi: How many regret points is a complete loss of reputation and standing worth? How about a fall from grace? Or wanting something but never being able to obtain it?

Comment:
Don’t let the title fool you. I entered the novel thinking it’s some meet-cute modern-day slice-of-life comedy, but it turns out to have some really good angst and adventure moments in there. Heck, it’s been awhile since I cried for a novel. :’)
There are ten arcs (i.e. worlds) that the protagonist enters, each with its own backstory, so this novel might feel longer than the usual danmei. Nevertheless, I enjoyed all the details placed into each world and all the side characters. I also like that the protagonist is very smart and cunning and he grows throughout the different worlds. The only con I’ll say to this is that everything proceeds a bit too smoothly, especially with the golden finger of 061, so the protagonist can come off as being too OP. Nevertheless, the ending and last world are just huge tear-jerkers.

One day, Zhang Chenfei met a car accident. Fortunately, he didn’t suffer any serious physical injuries. However, due to the impact of the car crash, his brain’s perception of the real world had turned into that of the novel that he was reading prior to the accident. The thing that horrified his wife, Jiao Qi, was… the Smart Brain, Louis XIII downloaded a series of books which meant that his husband would turn into a different character each time!
How will our adorable little wife deal with this kind of husband who seemed to suddenly suffer from multiple personalities?
This novel’s plot focuses on Zhang Chenfei’s changing personality based from the characters in the books, and how his wife, Jiao Qi, deal with every character as he will have to act in sync with whoever his husband’s character is. This is per the advise of the private doctor since treatment of this special condition was still under research.
As they act out their roles, they will gradually discover and learn more about the other, which they’ve never known in their seven years of living together.
Comment:
The amount of second-hand embarrassment and cringe I got from this novel is huge and I love it lol. If you are curious about how cheesy and cliche Chinese romance can get, please do try reading this. It includes some of the worst and most dog blood tropes in a comedic and satirical way, while advancing the main pairing’s relationship at the same time. Truly a fun read!

“You must will the liberation of all beings; you cannot handle attainment with a careless or arrogant attitude.” - opening of chapter VI of Cleary’s translation of The Secret of the Golden Flower
The above sentence got me thinking in my meditations. This has been a thread through Taoism for ages, that liberation comes with wanting to share it, fitting the tale of it’s creation (the story is some Taoists channeled it from Lu Dong-bin). It echoes with some of the fusion Buddhist sentiments from the time it was published. What is the role of wishing the best for others in the attainment (of the Tao, Enlightenment, etc.)?
So, simply, I started thinking about it, and it’s one of those moments where a few simple thoughts opens your mind. So of course I share it.
I realized how better the world would be, how happier people would be if they were more “practically” enlightened. If people were driven to be better, to be happier. It wasn’t just willing the liberation of others, it was hoping they’d seek to be happier that way.
I realized how hoping the best for others improved my own actions and meditation. I realized maybe I could help others in my practice, but also that they were fellow travelers on a journey. I wasn’t above them, or behind them, or whatever – we on the same path and it was best to do it together.
Finally I realized how people deserved better. Yes, even the assholes.
Call it Samsara or the mundane mind or whatever. Life didn’t come with a user manuals so between sages and gods and philosophers we’ve tried to figure it all the hell out. A lot of us yes, even the worst of us, could be better, could have been better. But we’re all here just trying vaguely to figure it out. So many of us would be better if we had a better idea of just what the hell we were doing.
We don’t have a full roadmap. We deserve better. We don’t deserve to suffer, and we don’t deserve to be assholes who cause suffering. This doesn’t mean I spare the assholes per se, but I can at least know things could have been better.
I’d like us to have better and we deserve it. Even when it’s time to slap some assholes down, it can be with some regret that it happened.
It really is best when the journey to self-improvement of whatever kind isn’t alone. It takes down your boundaries and your ego, and opens you up to others - and maybe to the you you want to be.
Amazing one a few sentences can do, can’t it?
You deserve better.
