Peter Macon will be in the upcoming Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes film as Raka, an orangutan. He is seen in the first trailer giving Noa advice about his dreams and wearing the symbol of Caesar around his neck.
Macon is best known for his role on the TV show The Orville, where he plays Lt. Commander Bortus. The alien role features intense prosthetic make-up so it will be interesting to see him take on a motion capture role.

Peter Macon in The Orville (2017) Command Performance
S1E2
Captain Mercer is mortified by his indiscreet parents aboard a commercial vessel hailing the Orville on account of mysterious technical problems. Lt. Cmdr. Bortus having taken long leave to sit on his egg and the XO accompanying Ed aboard, inexperienced Lt. Alara Kitan is given command despite weak protestation, as the exes go aboard by shuttle only to be transported by an unidentified force. Isaac works out its nature and tracks it down to a forbidden space sector, which Admiral Tucker explicitly forbids entering on a rescue action. The sulking crew ends up convincing Alara to risk her career and probably all their lives into the territory of the technologically far superior Calivon civilization, which considers humans and so on inferior bugs. Ed and Kelly have in fact been locked up in a replica from memory-probe of their NY former home in the Calivon 'space zoo', from where no creature ever escaped, so their only hope are negotiations with the zoo keeper, which prove risky too...
*The holographic ship that Capt Mercer is called to assist is referred to as the "Bleriot", following the other aviation themed clues, this is probably a nod to Louis Blériot, French inventor and aviator who was the first to cross the English channel in his model XI monoplane in 1909.

The Orville MBTI
Ed Mercer: ENTJ The Commander
ENTJs are often very motivated by success in their careers and enjoy hard work. They are ambitious and interested in gaining power and influence. To the ENTJ, decision-making is a vocation. They want to be in a position to make the call and put plans into motion.
ENTJs tend to be blunt and decisive. Driven to get things done, they can sometimes be critical or brusque in the pursuit of a goal. They are typically friendly and outgoing, although they may not pick up on emotional subtleties in other people. They often love working with others toward a common goal, but may not find time to attend to their feelings. They are focused on results and want to be productive, competent, and influential. [Truity]
Dr. Clare Finn: INTP The Thinker
INTPs present a cool exterior but are privately passionate about reason, analysis, and innovation. They seek to create complex systems of understanding to unify the principles they've observed in their environments. Their minds are complicated and active, and they will go to great mental lengths trying to devise ingenious solutions to interesting problems.
The INTP is typically non-traditional, and more likely to reason out their own individual way of doing things than to follow the crowd. The INTP is suspicious of assumptions and conventions, and eager to break apart ideas that others take for granted. INTPs are merciless when analyzing concepts and beliefs, and hold little sacred. They are often baffled by other people who remain loyal to ideology that doesn't make logical sense. [Truity]
Lt. Gordon Malloy: ESTP The Doer
ESTPs are energetic thrillseekers who are at their best when putting out fires, whether literal or metaphorical. They bring a sense of dynamic energy to their interactions with others and the world around them. They assess situations quickly and move adeptly to respond to immediate problems with practical solutions.
Active and playful, ESTPs are often the life of the party and have a good sense of humor. They use their keen powers of observation to assess their audience and adapt quickly to keep interactions exciting. Although they typically appear very social, they are rarely sensitive; the ESTP prefers to keep things fast-paced and silly rather than emotional or serious. [Truity]
Lt. Alara Kitan: ISFP The Artist
ISFPs tend to be tolerant and nonjudgmental, but are deeply loyal to the people and causes that matter to them. They endeavor to accept and support other people, but are ultimately guided by their own core values. They will typically look for ways to be accommodating and may have difficulty dealing with others who are not willing to do the same.
ISFPs are typically modest and may underestimate themselves. They usually do not like to be in the spotlight, preferring instead to take a supporting role, and will avoid planning and organizing whenever possible. Sensitive and responsive, they step in to do what needs to be done and are satisfied by their personal sense of being helpful to others. [Truity]
Lt. John Lamar: ISTP The Virtuoso
ISTPs are typically reserved and even aloof. Tolerant and nonjudgmental, the ISTP calmly takes in the details and facts of their surroundings, noticing sensory data and observing how things work. They often tune into what needs to be done, taking care of the immediate needs of the moment in a modest, inconspicuous way. They tend to prefer action to conversation, and are often private about their personal lives. ISTPs are unlikely to “open up” to new people in a conventional way, but may connect with others by sharing an activity or working together to solve a practical problem.
ISTPs are attentive to details and responsive to the demands of the world around them. Because of their astute sense of their environment, they are good at moving quickly and responding to emergencies. ISTPs are reserved, but not withdrawn: the ISTP enjoys taking action, and approaches the world with a keen appreciation for the physical and sensory experiences it has to offer. [Truity]
Kelly Grayson: ENFP The Champion
ENFPs tend to be curious about others and preoccupied with discovering the deeper meaning in people and ideas. They want authentic experience and often seek emotional intensity. ENFPs are easily bored by details and repetition and seek out situations that offer an escape from the mundane. Novelty is attractive to ENFPs, who often have a wide range of interests and friends from many backgrounds.
ENFPs love to talk about people: not just the facts, but what motivates them, what inspires them, and what they envision achieving in life. They’ll often share their own aspirations freely, and want to hear others’ in return. The ENFP is unlikely to judge anyone’s dream, and will discuss the most imaginative and outlandish of fantasies with warm, enthusiastic intensity. They love to explore creative possibilities, and nothing deflates them faster than talking about dry facts or harsh reality. [Truity]
Lt. Commander Bortus: ISTJ The Duty Fulfiller
ISTJs like to know what the rules of the game are, valuing predictability more than imagination. They rely on their past experience to guide them, and are most comfortable in familiar surroundings. ISTJs trust the proven method, and appreciate the value of dedicated practice to build confidence in their skills.
ISTJs are hardworking and will persist until a task is done. They are logical and methodical, and often enjoy tasks that require them to use step-by-step reasoning to solve a problem. They are meticulous in their attention to details, and examine things closely to be sure they are correct. With their straightforward logic and orientation to detail, ISTJs work systematically to bring order to their own small parts of the world. [Truity]

Let’s Talk #TheOrville
Seth MacFarlane’s latest TV series may be heavily inspired by the Star Trek franchise, but it is another great hit from the creator of Family Guy.
For my thoughts on FOX’s The Orville, feel free to keep reading. There will be spoilers.
Seth MacFarlane is well-known as the creator of shows such as Family Guy and American Dad! and voices several of their main characters like Peter Griffin, Quagmire, and Stan Smith. He also written and directed the live action films Ted, Ted 2, and A Million Ways to Die in the West.
When it comes to live action TV, his only credits are as an executive producer of the documentary series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Blunt Talk, and a couple of short-lived sitcoms. The Orville is his first hour-long live action scripted series.
The show features the adventures of the USS Orville captained by Ed Mercer (MacFarlane). Alongside a crew which includes his first officer/ex-wife Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) and helmsman/best friend Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes), they explore the outer reaches of space and occasionally fight the Krill.
Based on MacFarlane’s previous work, one would assume that The Orville is supposed to be a parody of Star Trek. A possibility for this assumption would be that some of the show’s cast has either previously worked or star in his other shows, such as Grimes who also voices Steve Smith on American Dad!
This show is anything but a parody. It is more of an original take on the Star Trek TV shows, only with a bit more humor and pop culture references.
The Star Trek references are a bit obvious, especially through some of the main characters. Lt. Commander Bortus (Peter Macon) and Issac (Mark Jackson) heavily resemble Worf and Data, respectively, from The Next Generation, while Lt. Alara Kitan (Halston Sage) resembles B’Elanna Torres from Voyager.
The crew’s divisions are represented by three colors (blue, red, and green) just like on Star Trek.
In addition, the show’s ongoing threat of the Krill use ships which resemble those of the Romulans.
What helps the show stand out from other science fiction series is the comedy. The Orville is not as over-the-top comedic as MacFarlane’s other shows but has a lot of funny moments which help to lighten up the tone. A great example of this is in the first episode when Ed finds out Kelly will be his first officer.
It also regularly features pop culture references, something that Star Trek has often avoided, and actually integrates it into the story. The episode “About a Girl”, for example, uses Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer as a plot device.
My favorite character on the show is Issac, the ship’s Science and Engineering Officer, played by Mark Jackson.
He is the antithesis to Data from The Next Generation.
While Data never considered himself to be superior despite being an android and wanted to be more human, Issac comes from a artificial species that considers themselves to be superior to biological lifeforms. He never boasts about his superiority, at least intentionally, but does show himself as being open to learning more about humanity.
The episodes are mostly standalone stories like those from The Next Generation but the characters have ongoing story arcs, such as Bortus’ relationship with his mate Klyden (Chad Coleman). The episodes range from fantastical elements like time travel to relevant topics such as religion, gender, and public opinion.
As for any potential comparison with Star Trek: Discovery, it would be unfair to compare the two shows.
Discovery is the more serious of the two due to its heavily dramatic tone, while Orville is more lighthearted with a good balance of comedy and drama.
Both shows can coexist with one another since they are aimed at different audiences. Discovery is for fans of the Star Trek franchise, while Orville is for a general audience which may either be new to science fiction or already aware of MacFarlane from his previous work.
The Orville is a great new series from Seth MacFarlane with a great mixture of comedy and drama, great characters, and really good stories. I Highly Recommend it.
It should be noted that The Orville was recently renewed for a second season. If you want to catch up before the next episode airs on FOX, it can be streamed on both the FOX NOW app and Hulu.
The show airs Thursdays on FOX after Gotham. Check your local listings.
Until next time, thank you for reading!

G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Men in Black, and Throne in Glass Come to the Tabletop
by W. Eric Martin
• In late February 2019, WizKids announced an new licensing partnership with Hasbro in which "beloved properties G.I. Joe, My Little Pony and Transformers" would be added to WizKids' line of miniatures in 2019 in both pre-painted and unpainted formats. From the press release announcing the deal:
"Much of the WizKids team has grown up with these cherished brands and are thrilled to be bringing them to life with the high definition sculpting processes that our customers have come to love," said Justin Ziran, president of WizKids.
WizKids has also signed a deal for HeroClix releases related to The Orville television series. From the announcement: "The first product to release will be a Jumbo Starter Set featuring the main crew, including Captain Ed Mercer, played by actor Seth MacFarlane, along with Commander Kelly Grayson, Dr. Claire Finn, Lt. Alara Kitan, Lt. Gordon Malloy, Lt. Commander Bortus, Lt. Commander John LaMarr, enabling HeroClix players and fans to embark in interstellar combat with their favorite characters."
• IDW Games is working with long-time design team Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim to bring out Men In Black: Undercover, a 3-6 player game due out in May 2019 in which you need to use aliens to advance your own goals:
In Men In Black: Undercover, you play as a member of three different groups with three very different goals. The Men In Black are a secret organization who supervise alien activity on Earth and work to keep their existence hidden from the general population. Meanwhile, members of the Shadow Government are doing everything in their power to capture aliens and weaponize them. Lastly, there are the Conspiracy Theorists who are working toward proving the existence of aliens to the world. Which side will come out on top? That's where you come in! Join a team and influence the aliens to join your cause, but make sure you aren't too obvious with your goals. After all, you'll need to stay undercover to win...
• To move on to something less nostalgia-driven, we have Embers of Memory: A Throne of Glass Game, which is based on Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series of YA novels, as you might be able to tell from the subtitle. This Osprey Games title due out in October 2019 is based on a design from Kuro, presumably The Ravens of Thri Sahashri based on Osprey's prior publication of that design and this game description:
Aelin Galathynius has given up her freedom for the sake of her people. Held captive by the Queen of the Fae and tortured for information, her only companions are a silent prisoner and her own mind. The image of her mother, her lover, her friends. The embers of her memory, and a voice, deep inside... "You will not yield." Embers of Memory: A Throne of Glass Game is a two-player co-operative card game set during the events of Kingdom of Ash. Working together, you must delve into the memories of the young queen and help her face her inner demons before she is overwhelmed. Be warned — each challenge you face is more complex than the last, testing the bond between you and your partner to its limit.
• To circle back to the company that kicked off this post, Ravnica: Inquisition is a hidden role game for 5-10 players due out from WizKids in June 2019 in which players each represent one of the ten "two-color" guilds of Ravnica, with you being either loyal to the Gatewatch or an agent of Nicol Bolas. (If you've been following the current Magic: The Gathering storyline, that sentence will make sense to you. Otherwise I'll note only that the world of Ravnica has ten guilds on it, and each guild is identified by a different combination of two of the five colors of magic in Magic: white, blue, black, red, and green.) As for the gameplay:
The Gatewatch loyalists are tasked with discovering who the Agents of Bolas are, while the Agents simply need to survive in order to further the schemes of Nicol Bolas. Players will elect leaders for each of the five colors, but only players whose guilds’ color pairs contains the color may be voted for. Each color leader has a special power they can use to further their goals, and players must be careful when voting, as Nicol Bolas’s influence may grow. Once all the color leaders have been elected, a vote is held to eliminate one player. Once the dust has settled, players will reveal their roles, and if the Agents of Bolas were eliminated, the Gatewatch wins.

The Orville became a better Gene Roddenberry creation-adjacent than his actual creations and spinoffs created by others. Discovery is practically any other melodramatic show on television today just set in a prequel universe of ST. People are defending it, saying it is otherwise, because of nostalgia and they can’t face that truth.
The Orville is not just a comedy it is Roddenberry’s ideal universe because it is not just about people being accepting but also about people being static.
Remember that episode of the ship’s Lt. Commander Bortus having a daughter and the end result was to perform the surgery to change the sex? That episode was so amazing. It shown that while the future had so much openness that people still respected other cultures. In a way, I wished it turned out differently but it was a lesson of much needed improvement in the universe.
