So what happens when you have a really awesome world and story idea but can't write it out as a story because it is wayyyy better suited to be a webtoon but you also cannot draw to save your life?

So, if you were to make a proper RWBY X Power Ranger AU, what would you do?

First of all, fuck you. You know what you're doing, Jac.

Second, I suppose if I were, I'd be probably a little out there compared to most AUs I've done. To spit ball a bit; I'd have Ironwood be the one to form the squad as the mentor, fighting against Salem and her forces and I'd have my ranger team be:

Ruby - Red Ranger

Penny - Green Ranger

Weiss - White Ranger

Sun - Yellow Ranger

Flynt - Black Ranger

I lowkey wanna write out a big Fanfic Bible for this, but I really don't wanna invest the time in something I'm not 100% loving. Like, even if I never write these fics, I'd at least want to feel passionate at some point.

I've been always a dnd nerd so I was thinking abt who the rise bois would play as in dnd or just what class fits them best and i only got to the conclusion that Leo lowkey would be a Warlock simply because 1) cool powers 2) he'd annoy the shit out of his patron

Bonus points if its an evil patron that has to stick to him because there is no other choice for them but got is he insufferable

I wanna say Mikey definitely fits Monk because fast and agile boi but also sorcerer for the magic, maybe multiclass? Though I wouldn't know how you'd create a viable Monk/Sorcerer multiclass but I bet there is one

Raph is definitely a barbarian for the rage and strength

Now Donnie I could see as a Ranger/Rogue or Artificer. Tbh I also see a bit of monk due to his fighting style

Rise of Red!Miraculous Ladybug AU Ch 2 Notes

I wanted to elaborate a little more about the outfits I gave each character in their civilian and superhero form. I also wrote some other notes about the other characters I'm putting in the AU as well as some of my thoughts on writing the last chapter. Check it out :)

Let's start with Red's outfits

Civilian form:

So for both Red and Chloe, I gave them outfits more lowkey and doesn't necessarily scream MAIN CHARACTER from what they were wearing in the movie just so they can blend into the background a bit more.

For Red, I went with more of a loose/baggy fit to contrast from her Ladybug outfit.

Top: Like a typical bisexual, Red has a flannel (black majority with red plaid pattern) over a solid black crop shirt

Bottom: Gave her some maroon cargo pants and a pair of doc martens.

Hair: Stays the same in the movie where she has little heart shaped buns

Accessories: Didn't mention them so far, but Red wears a gold heart shaped locket.

Ladybug form:

Literally the first outfit that we see her in, in the movie.

The only real changes are: the mask is solid red with black spots for the ladybug feel, and then I changed her shoes to some knee high red boots (also spotted) just to give her a more superhero feel.

Next up is Chloe:

She has a lot more changes to her outfit in between her civilian form and her Chat Noire form.

Civilian form:

I imagined this to mainly be largely inspired by a school uniform since I mentioned in the latest chapter that Chloe was a transfer from All Girls Academy from Cinderellasburg. And sure she goes to Auradon prep now, but old habits die hard.

Top: Gave her a baby blue polo (inspired by clips of Malia in Are You Afraid of the Dark), and then I gave her Chad's letterman from the first movie

Bottom: Alternates between a pair of khakis and a white skirt. For shoes I gave her a pair of white hightop converse

Hair: Biggest difference lies in her hair in civilian form. Some have already picked up on it but as a civilian, Chloe basically keeps her hair up/styled and never loose and free like it is in the movie. I did this bc I wanted to play into the aspect of her being a lot more restrained/"perfect princess" in her civilian identity

Accessories: I also gave Chloe a hat because I saw the rehearsal with Malia in a white hat and I was like, aight, Chloe's civilian identity gets a hat. Plus it helps a little more with the keeping her hair in line/covered to further separate from the Chat Noire identity. Additionally, I gave her a pair of silver reading glasses cuz she's a nerd who read too much in the dark as a kid. Finally, she gets to keep her choker from the movie.

Chat Noire form

Her Chat Noire form is actually just a black/dark grey version of her outfit in the movie except for a replacement in the jacket. Instead of the padded material we have from the movie, I'm replacing it with a cropped leather jacket kind of like what Claw Noir wears in the Miraculous World movie.

Her choker gets a little bell :D

Can't forget the cat ears and mask. But instead of green eyes, I'm giving her eyes a dark shade of blue tint instead.

Finally, her hair is basically the same as it is in the movie where its all wild and free to show her freedom in the Chat Noire persona.

--Other Notes--

I haven't fully decided yet whether I want to make Chloe and Red actual princesses yet or just a modern equivalent to a princess. I'll figure that out by the next chapter or so.

Like the Power Rangers!AU that I wrote, I'm going to separate Ella, Bridget, and Charming's characters from their Cinderella, King Charming, and Queen of Hearts counterparts

Cinderella -> Cindy Charming (This one is pretty easy)

King Charming -> Reginald Charming (This comes from the Brandy Cinderella movie where the Prince has a long list of names so I just picked one out that sounded like a king's name)

Prince Charming -> Christopher Charming (again, comes from the movie, but he'll take the first name since it sounds more prince-ly) Also, like the Power Rangers AU, he is Chloe's cousin

Queen of Hearts -> Reina Hearts

lol yeah I didn't want to replace her name with Queenie or something but Reina means ruler so I went with that. I'll mention her character a little more later but like we all knew with Gabriel Agreste, Reina Hearts is the Card Queen

Card Queen stuff:

I didn't really see a proper way to fit the butterfly themes/akuma into her aesthetic and I didn't want to just say she's the female version of Hawkmoth

She's loosely inspired by Hawkmoth let's just say.

I switched out the term akuma with card/card soldier (akumatized -> Carded) to better play with her Card Queen theme

We'll find out later how the Card Queen's deck of cards play into the existence of the miraculous.

Thoughts about writing the last Chapter

So the process for writing out this chapter was pretty rough ngl. I knew I wanted to establish what a typical adventure with Ladybug and Chat Noire looked like, but its a lot easier said than done. First, I had to figure out the villain and I was thinking a more Animan inspired chapter so I went with the Jabberwocky. I initially wanted Red!bug to mimic the scene of Marinette jumping into the akuma's mouth and have Chloe!Noire freak out but the physiology of a jabberwocky wasn't making it work. At the very least I wanted to establish Red!bug's "elaborate"/out of the box schemes that put her more in line with the canon ml Ladybug to offset her sassy attitude as civilian Red.

I know I have it tagged as frenemies to lovers, but the enemies part hasn't necessarily shown up. I'm probably going to write a spin off for the series in terms of their origins and how they didn't start out on the right foot in the beginning. Luckily, we have the Jabberwocky line and its gonna start out like the original Adrienette misunderstanding until we get to where I started with their dynamics in the first chapter.

I currently have 11 (maybe 12) chapters planned out for this fic. In the rest of the chapters, I'm probably not going to write out their fight scenes as Ladybug and Chat Noire as detailed as I did in this second chapter, in favor of more internal monologue/character exploration. I'm someone really big on writing dialogue and I love writing Chloe's lines for the flirting scenes, but we'll see how much I can write before everyone understands that Chloe puts the charm in Charming.

Shoni and Trimberly

Ok guys as I mentioned in an earlier post Shelby and Toni from the wilds remind me of Kimberly and Trini from Power Rangers (2017). Here is why:

1. The most obvious reasons:

- they are the same age (17) which isnt special i guess but for me it is because i only have very few teenage ships (maybe that alone is the main reason they are similar to me lol)

- part of a group of teens (found family vibes)

Ok now onto a more detailed comparison

2. Trini and Toni

- both fit the smol angry lesbian stereotype

- care a lot but dont really show it

- difficult (though very different) relationship with mother

- seems to be angry and loud but is actually the quiet, shy girl of the group

- look like they could kill you but are actually cinnamon roles

3. Kimberly and Shelby

- both lowkey fit the high school princess stereotype but arent really (both are called princess by their s/o in several fanfics)

- mom and/or big sister friend

- pink is their color

- top energy (i know yall agree with me)

- try to include everyone in the group

- both cut off their hair as an act to break free from their past (at least thats my interpretation)

- hurt a (former) friend by doing very bad things but regretting it immediatly (again my interpretation) and struggling with living with the guilt (which leads to the hair situation)

-look like cinnamon rolls but will cut a bitch

4. Vibes and Fanfics

Ok so for me I think the biggest similarities are a bit difficult to describe. I realized how similar they are while reading fanfiction because of the way the fandoms seem to interpret each relationship. For example I have read kidfics for both couples in which Toni and Trini, and Shelby and Kimberly took on similar roles as mothers. The same appeared to be the case with high school AUs and pretty much every other fic i read (there are brilliant fics for both couples btw both fandoms are very creative!!)

Other than that the vibes just feel similar to me (this is of course a very personal and subjective impression). I'm getting endless summer vibes from both couples with trimberly being the edgier version lol. I wont go into detail with the vibes because this post is already too long.

I'm sure i missed a lot of similarities (i havent watched power rangers in a while) and i forgot half of the things i noticed. Feel free to add your observations to this post. Anyways, thanks for reading and go watch the wilds and power rangers 2017.

If Faramir went to Rivendell, how would the whole ttt/rohan plot be different?

A good question that I have spent an unreasonable time thinking about! My first LOTR fic was going to be an attempt to answer this, but then I got so wrapped up in not having the answers that I sidelined it and wrote WC instead. So I think instead of giving you one definitive answer I’ll give you a couple scenarios I think are plausible? If that’s not too much of a cop out lmao? Apologies in advance for the inevitable spelling errors, I did this on my phone and my dyslexia is off the charts today.

I think it’s basically unavoidable that he goes via Rohan first, geographically he’s sort of left without an option there. When he’s there, we get into this issue of whether and how he and Éowyn interact. Worth noting, I think, that the Unfinished Tales has Éomer living in Aldburg by the War, but Éomer does seem to imply he’s around for Boromir passing through. Is this because he knows and already is a fan of Boromir? Maybe! Or maybe Éomer goes to Aldburg after.

But I digress. We have to ask the question of whether Faramir falls in love with Éowyn because he was always going to fall in love with Éowyn, or if it’s because the things he’s gone through immediately preceding it primed him for it. I — perhaps quite cheaply — come down on the side of Faramir always having it bad for her on first sight. And contextually I think that comes from his, rather sweet, enunciation of the way his regard/love changes for her. He says that at first he pities her, and then he gets to know her and he doesn’t pity her anymore, he respects and admires her. That’s an interesting dynamic to bring into play in basically every AU, because you get this double barrel characterisation of his attitude to her changing, and his own character maturing/sharp edges softening.

I think he off the bat he sees that she’s beautiful, and immediately is drawn to her for that. Shallow? Maybe! But, to badly paraphrase my ol fav Victor Hugo quote — love always begins with a glance.

I imagine he stays for a short while, maybe a week, two at most. At this point I think that Éowyn’s basically viewing him as an official guest that she has to entertain, and I think Faramir is, in his own, slightly stilted, slightly wanky way, putting the moves on her. This can go, imo, one of two ways. She can either be receptive to it (which is a nice thought!) or she can be aware of it but mostly ignore it because, really, she’s got lots of shit on her plate.

Either way, he leaves Edoras at some point. The big question is where does his go from there?

One thing I toy around with is that, given his pre-existing relationship to Gandalf, maybe he’s willing to trust the Istari a bit more and goes straight for Isengard? Which, and I think I did the math on this once a few months ago, would have him arriving at Isengard around the time Gandalf’s getting his shit kicked in by Saruman lol. I think this could be a really compelling plot point, but I’ll be very honest with you, I 100% don’t have the imagination or writing skills to figure out how it proceeds from there, so I’m not going to try to.

If he goes the normal Boromir route, he still loses his horse at Tharbad and walks (lmao jesus???) to Rivendell. When he gets there, I think he’s immediately going to have everything he knows put to the test in quite jarring ways. First off, he’s going to be infinitely more deferential to Elrond, Aragorn &c when they’re trashing Gondor. He’ll push back a bit, no doubt on that, but he’s going to be starstruck by Aragorn in a way that Boromir just wasn’t.

No real difference I imagine between Rivendell and Lothlórien, except that he’d definitely be laser focused on palling about with Aragorn, and he’d probably spend more of his time being friendly with Frodo than with Merry and Pippin tbh (not in a douchey way, I just think he and Frodo vibe a little better. Though I bet he and Merry had some interesting chats about pipe weed history).

The underlying question here is what sort of relationship does he have to the ring? I don’t buy this idea that he’s not tempted by it, I just think that what the ring offers him is a bit shit. We don’t know what the ring tempts him with, he’s not clear on that in TTT. I can’t really see the ring being like ‘oh I’ll give you a king to follow’ because that is some intensely nerdy shit, but is somehow the one thing I could see Faramir actually being tempted by. Regardless of what it offers him in this AU, he resists it on the basis that he’s got this mythical king he’s been desperate for, and he’s not gonna risk that for anything.

Lothlórien comes next, and oh my god when I tell you this is the part I genuinely have no answer for. I stopped writing my first fic at Lothlórien because I couldn’t cope. Tbh it probably lowkey fries Faramir’s brain, and for so many reasons. The whole godmoding Númenórean stuff he’s got going on probably interests Galadriel a bit, and so that whole conversation is going to be wildly different than it was for Boromir. But what does she say to Faramir? I have no idea. I really don’t. There’s also probably a million and one things also going on psychologically for him at that point, which makes dealing with this bit difficult. Really difficult. So I’m gonna, uh, conveniently smash cut away.

Parth Galen! Again, another two potential splits here. The first, (from here on out I’ll refer to as Plot A) which I find rather endearing, is that he goes off with Frodo and Sam when Frodo makes the decision to split. I don’t know that I believe he’d do it, but it proves for a very delightful interpretation of his character.

Plot B is that when the Orcs show up, Faramir survives not by virtue of his being a ~ better warrior ~ or whatever than Boromir, but by the terrain surrounding Parth Galen being something he’s far more in the habit of dealing with, and by virtue of his having a bow at his disposal. I know there’s room for an interpretation of Faramir as not primarily an archer, but narratively I think that’s less interesting. So he’s an archer. He’s an archer and also his priority is on Aragorn first and foremost, so Merry and Pip still get taken, and Frodo and Sam use the hubbub to GTFO, which is actually slightly more in line with the movie’s chronology, funnily enough. The three hunters become four, and then go on Merry & Pippin’s trails.

In Plot A, they’re hauling ass across the Emyn Muil, bolstered in some ways by Faramir’s experience as a Ranger. The problem is the issue of getting into Mordor and whether or not they pick up Gollum. I think, in a way that frustrates me immensely, they do end up taking Gollum, not because they need a guide, but because Gollum fulfils this deep psychological need for Frodo, and I think he would have argued for keeping Gollum regardless. Faramir is going to be fucked off about this, but will ultimately, I think, be deferential to the ringbearer.

So they go across the Dead Marshes, but they do NOT attempt the Black Gate first because Faramir’s not a fool. Do they go to Henneth Annûn? I say yes, but with the caveat that in all likelihood Boromir is gonna be there, which is gonna complicate stuff tremendously.

Over to Plot B!

The four hunters go to the Mark! They meet Éomer! Hey! Éomer recognises Faramir! (And he’s probably a little fucked off that he lost his horse lol). But whatever, he knows this guy, so he’s probably gonna be like, uhhh, everything you saw before in Edoras is much worse now. Also my cousin's dead and everything is bad. Here’s some horses, sorry for maybe accidentally killing your pals, see ya! And at this point I think Faramir’s probably having a, hmmm, g e n t l e  p s y c h i c  c r i s i s, because if he’s still very 👅 for Éowyn (which he is, sorry, he has to be) then he’s going to want to go there ASAP. Obviously though that’s not gonna happen, so: Merry and Pip chasing, Gandalf finding, Edoras arriving.

Which means Éowyn. If, at this point, she and Faramir already have something of an arrangement going on (nudge nudge) then she’s really not gonna give a shit about Aragorn. You know how in TTT it’s not even clear that she actually sees Legolas and Gimli? 100% that vibe with Aragorn too. Théoden’s gonna get his house in order, they’re going to head to Helm’s Deep, and Éowyn’s gonna get named head of house. (Faramir, if he starts off just thinking she’s beautiful, is going to have quite the paradigm shift here, because he’s going to have to start reckoning with her as not just a beautiful woman, but as a very, very intense person. This is how his love for her starts to mature.)

Sometimes I dream about him being like, ‘hey! I have some first hand experience of ruling a kingdom, how about I stay and…….. lend you a hand……..’ to Éowyn while she’s keeping watch on Edoras. This is wildly unlikely, but a delightful thought nonetheless. In the more likely case, which is that he goes to the Hornburg, she’s going to start feeling some strain about this whole war shebang, and it’s going to lead to some difficult conversations. Chief among them is that Faramir, as second son, actually has basically nothing to give her, which is not exactly a great position to be in when you’re in love with the niece of a king. I’m of the opinion that Éowyn’s not fussed by that stuff (she agrees to marry him when he’s prepping to give up a shit ton of power anyways), so she’s probably like, 'no, fuck you, we’re getting married.' And then he leaves, and it starts to emotionally unsettle her more and more.

If they don’t already have a thing, then it either begins at this point OR he gets overshadowed by Aragorn. In either case, off to Helm’s Deep he goes.

Helm’s Deep happens, I think Faramir ends up extraordinarily impressed by how the Rohirrim handle the Dunlenders afterwards, which also begins to soften his harsh opinion of them more generally.

They go to Isengard, Pippin looks in the Palantír, and away Pippin and Gandalf go. Both Gandalf and Faramir here would recognise that it would be batshit insane for Faramir to go back to MT now, because Denethor would read him like a picture book and he’d have to admit to the entire mission of the Fellowship.

Over in Plot A, I think we’re going to have some real emotional complexity vis a vis Faramir showing up at Henneth Annûn with two hobbits, a ring, and Boromir in control there. God, it would just be a disaster. My incredibly generous interpretation of this is that Faramir keeps the plan vague enough that Boromir lets them pass unhindered. My less generous interpretation is… yeah I don’t wanna do it tbh. It’s not pretty. It's also, to be clear: not an indictment of Boromir as a character. His response is entirely rational for someone expected to lead a kingdom and for someone put up against the unbelievable power of the One Ring. The reason Faramir continuously gets to pass largely untempted by the ring is because he's a guy with no actual responsibilities once you take the Rangers away. His understanding of his duty to Gondor is almost entirely conceptual in nature. He can think and talk about defending Gondor as it once was because there are several people above him in the hierarchy defending Gondor for what it is. This is also not an indictment of Faramir. He and Boromir just have wildly different realities to contend with.

They are going to go through Cirith Ungol even though Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumbass both speak Sindarin and don’t cotton on to what its name implies lol. This whole scene is much shorter because Faramir’s significantly more cautious, so there is no Orc capture and Sam doesn't take the Ring. This is where things get a bit complex, and where I don’t think I have the imagination to say much more. Sorry!

Back in Plot B, the lads catch up with Éowyn as they prep to go down the Paths of the Dead. If she and Faramir are a thing, this is where the real emotional distress kicks in for her. All of the men in her life have, at one point or another, functionally abandoned her, and here’s Faramir, love of her life, about to do the exact same thing. Faramir inevitably goes with the Grey Company even though she begs him not to. When she tries to convince them not to go down the Paths at all, he is in the fortunate enough position to throw up his hands and say 'not my call, actually. King’s in charge,' which lessens the emotional conflict there somewhat.

No part of me doubts that Éowyn wouldn’t then immediately go over his head to Aragorn. She would, she absolutely does not give a fuck. And she’s going to get knocked back re: joining them in exactly the same way as in the book, because Aragorn’s take here isn’t actually dependent on her personally, it’s dependent on the duty she’s been charged with, which is taking care of her people. (Also going to be an interesting narrative parallel to a later conversation between Faramir and Aragorn after the Pelennor, which I’ll explain in more detail later.)

Faramir will, perhaps somewhat less dismissively, say this to her. He learns much more obviously the way to talk to her on her own terms, and he’s not gonna fall into the trap of letting her be like ‘you just want me to wait and die after all the men are dead.’ He’s going to probably give her some line about her being the last organised line of defence, and he might even invoke Haleth! It’s not going to work, because Éowyn’s very aware of the apocalyptic nature of all of this, but it’s not going to cause such abject hatred and fury as it otherwise would.

If she and Faramir are not a thing, her emotional distress is as it is in the book, except now Faramir’s trying not to pout in the background. He might even step in to try and soften the blow.

Regardless, she ends up as Dernhelm, she rides to the Pelennor.

Boromir is the one responsible for the Osgiliath retreat, and because it’s heavily implied that Faramir only keeps his seat because he’s got this dumbass Númenor garbage going on ('master of man and beast' — king Beregond), Boromir’s going to get killed by the Witch king here.

This is going to send shockwaves through not just Denethor, but Minas Tirith more generally, because Boromir is fucking adored. Denethor’s going to go high holy crackers much quicker, mostly because Gandalf is a shit stirrer and is going to waste no time at all in announcing that Aragorn, The Rightful King, is on his way, and Denethor will — correctly — surmise that Faramir has chosen Aragorn over returning with whatever Isildur’s Bane is to Gondor. This is the end for Denethor.

Éowyn rides from Dunharrow, slays the Witch king. Faramir and Aragorn show up with the Army of Dead, Faramir does not end up injured, but does end up as the Steward (obviously) and (obviously) aware that Éowyn is in the HOH. And also that everybody else he loves is dead. Yeehaw.

Here’s where I think things get really interesting. I think, counter to the way this is portrayed a lot of the time, Faramir doesn’t go to the Black Gate at all. I think he stays in Minas Tirith, not just to organise the wider range defences (esp the Rohirrim dealing w the Druadan) but in this very grim preparation to lead the retreat from Minas Tirith if/when Frodo & Sam fail. I think he's kind of fine with this for two reasons. The first is that him being conscious to process the death of his father, and it coming hours after the death of his brother means that he's going to have a personal-political crisis, and he's going to have to take the defence of Gondor more seriously than he did before. Second, Aragorn's going to tell him to fucking stay put, and he's going to be fine with it because it means he's going to get to spend the last few days of his life with Éowyn.

He and Éowyn reunite in the HOH, there’s still a lot of deeply emotional stuff going on, but, at least now Faramir’s conscience is clear re: marrying her because, well, he’s the Steward now. Also their reunion is going to take on greater significance because she’ll have killed the thing that killed his brother. So, that’s a lot.

If they are not a thing before the Pelennor, she's still going to drag his ass over to the HOH so she can bitch about being stuck there. But this time he's not a fellow hospital-prisoner, he's having to actually do things, and he's going to use that to his advantage in terms of keeping her from doing stupid shit. I think he's going to try to involve her in some of the strategic questions re: the retreat if the Morannon feint fails. I think he's going to make a point of talking to her to get her help on dealing with the Rohir forces that are in and around the City. I think that's going to go a huge way to helping to ease her misery, and it's going to be such a significant vote of trust in her (even after she's done the unthinkable and deserted her people) that she's going to fall in love with him here, as per. And the contrast between him and Aragorn is going to be all the stronger for it.

So yes. Those are just some of the possibilities I think! Sorry for the word dump!!

5.    top five favourite things not available in their canon verse.

Lowkey, he kind of loves Cinnabon? Like, it’s very rare that he’ll actually go into one  ---   he just enjoys the vibe, especially the smell of baked goods. A few late shifts have been sustained on nothing but black coffee and a cinnamon roll  ---  while he’s subjected to Renee loudly worrying about his diet, of course. If Gene’s going to die young, it will be with the taste of fast food pastry on his lips.

Gene loved the Power Rangers as a kid. He was just genuinely into them. He was the blue ranger for Halloween one year, and ended up wearing the costume for a long time afterwards  ---  which was a problem for several reasons. One, Louisiana’s climate is not friendly to full-face helmets. Two, backflips might look easy, but they’re really, really not. That’s the second time Gene broke a bone as a kid.

Ambient sound mixes on YouTube. He won’t listen to playlists when trying to focus, and he’s not into ASMR...  but a bit of white noise in the background, like a coffee shop or a rainy night? Yes please, that immediately get’s Gene’s brain into Focus Mode.

Tik Tok dances, just for the pleasure of watching his friends attempt to learn them. The first time Babe accidentally elbowed himself in the face, it was alarming. By the fifth time, nothing makes Gene laugh harder.

Fuzzy socks. Listen  ---  Gene’s got a collection, okay? Different patterns, different textures...  his feet are like ice, he needs a little support.

So, look, I always portray Gene as a medical student or some variation therof in a modern au  ---  it fits his character perfectly, it’s most similar to canon, definitely the most popular interpretation in the fandom! Except without the war...  I’m honestly not sure Gene would do that? Like, being a medic made him “Doc”...   and since historically Gene had no interest pursuing medicine after the war, I wonder what his modern interpretation would feel.  Maybe he’d still feel inclined towards the profession because he grew up watching his grandmother heal; in any modern au, I think that would be Gene’s driving motivation for becoming a doctor, but there’d still be days where he was conflicted about it.

12.    name a few of their favourite pieces of popular culture.

Oddly enough, he knows...  a lot of Taylor Swift songs? Like, he has a large repertoire. Knows all the classics. The FBI could interrogate him for hours and Gene would still vow he’s not a Swiftie, but he knows all the songs, okay.

I can think of things he’d definitely hate. Like, Grey’s Anatomy? House? E.R.? Get out of here with your inaccurate medical dramas, making the general public think doctors have nothing better to do on shift than get weird in the break room. Gene has thoughts about Grey’s Anatomy, okay, and none of them are good. 

He’s probably lowkey a Star Wars nerd. Like, he doesn’t have any of the stuff now, but he owned some comic books when he was a kid, he’s definitely seen all the movies...  and they have a very dear place in his heart.

Fanfic writer ask meme! E, J, M, N, O, S, T, and W?

E: What character do you identify with most? Is there a certain fic of yours that captures these qualities particularly well?

Lowkey Archie Andrews, not because I’m as stupid or impulsive as he is (I love him but it’s true), but just because he feels very passionately about things, he wants to do good and help people however he can, and it seems like a lot of the time he’s pushing down his hurt to keep moving forward. And sometimes I do that too. I appreciate and can relate to his desire to do good and help the people he loves even when he has no idea how to do it. I think my fic Rotten Work shows the “pushing down his hurt” part of him pretty well, while my fic Sweet Peas for Sweet Pea shows the sweeter, loving side of him well. 

Also Din Djarin and Eric from Santa Clarita Diet, because even though Din is on the opposite scale of being a threat (he’s a 10 and Eric and I are like a 2 at most), we’re all so very socially awkward. Unfortunately I haven’t written a fic for either of them that shows this side. 

J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

I feel like hurt/comfort/whump is an obvious one, but yes I have written this. Comfort fics where the only plot is for characters to turn to one character and be like “Hey this canon thing that happened to you was traumatic are you okay?” and actually deal with it are great. I have written this too.

Honestly probably Role Swap AUs. I feel like this is another obvious one, considering that I have the tag ‘role swap aus are the best aus’ but it’s TRUE. And yes, I have written this - the Doctor-Companion swap AU obviously, but I also wrote a role swap AU for the movie Princess Mononoke a few years ago. That’s what started my obsession. I kind of put it on hiatus and haven’t updated it in a few years but I still love it. 

I also love soulmate AUs of any kind and also the “Five plus one things” fic, but I’ve never written either of these things. 

M: What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with?  Did it turn into a story?

I once came up with an AU for the show Friends where Rachel ended up going to the opera with Emily instead of ditching her, and Rachel realized she was bi and she and Emily ended up together. I had a whole plan for it, too! If the motivation ever struck me I would write it now. 

I also once came up with a Shrek AU for my character Kris and Wanda Maximoff. Wanda was the “Shrek” character (Pietro too), Kris was the “Fiona” character. 

There’s also that Zeddison Santa Clarita Diet AU I made a post about lol 

N: Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?

Three Good Omens fic ideas: 1) Horsepeople struggling to raise Adam, 2) Frannie is in a car crash and Famine flips out, and 3) Pollution is critically injured and the Horsepeople bring them to Aziraphale and Crowley. 

Another Mandalorian imagine.

Another fic for A Christmas Prince focusing on Simon and Melissa. (They’re cute and I like them.)

A Power Rangers fic with my OC Rose. 

Another Ben and Ryoko fic, maybe with this one Mal and the others meeting her too. 

Indiana Jones AU-ish kind of fic where it’s the first movie but he has a wife (my OC) and they kick ass together and are basically Rick and Evie from The Mummy except they’re assholes. 

O: What are your thoughts on people writing fanfic of your fanfic?

I LOVE IT. It’s happened about twice now for my Doctor-Companion role swap AU and both times I was like “Oh! My! Gosh!” It’s amazing. 

S: How do you feel about fan art inspired by your writing?

I love it. I would name my first born child after anyone who made me some. 

T: Any fanfic tropes you can’t stand?

Alpha/Omega AUs. Dom/Sub AUs. Hurt no comfort. Porn without plot. Character bashing (unless I’m in a very specific mood). Major character death.

W: What is your favorite pairing to write?  Favorite pairing to read?

I think my favourite pairing to write is probably the one I’ve written for most often, which is Sweet Pea/Archie from Riverdale. They have such a fun mix of personalities - Sweet Pea is rough and angry, Archie is rough and sweet, they’re stupid AF but are very passionate and care about things a lot. Although I haven’t done a lot for them, it’s a fun dynamic to write!

My favourite pairing to read is definitely Donna and Ten. Platonic or romantic, either one is fine for me. They’re both just a one-braincell duo and Donna calling Ten out the fuck out while also caring about him a lot is my favourite thing. Anything they get themselves into is guaranteed to be hilarious, sad, or BOTH and it’s always wonderful.

Very important to this crossover is the fact that I think that there are a lot of parallels between the Cobalt Soul and the Archives. They’re both very knowledge-based, employ spies, keep records, and most importantly try to keep corrupt powers in check.

Listen. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but Jon Sims is a wizard who studied his ass off, wondered why his magic was acting weird, and then realized that he accidentally became a warlock. Very inconvenient. Also he’s a wood elf.

Martin Blackwood has POWERFUL hobbit energies. I don’t really get very strong class energies off of him to start, so he’s lowkey an NPC who accidentally became a party member. Also Blackwood is already a fantasy name and I just can’t get over that.

Basira (half-elf) and Daisy (human) are oathbreaker paladins who were meant to be upholding the law against these patrons but that kind of… all went to shit, didn’t it?

Basira is going to multiclass her way out of this mess if it’s the last thing she does

Melanie is a dwarven ranger who multiclasses as barbarian. It just feels right in my heart. Listen, I know rangers sort of fall under the Hunt category rather than the Slaughter (and Daisy is definitely also a ranger) but ghost hunting is a viable ranger career, okay??

Tim is a tiefling who chose his last name (Stoker) to reflect his habit of upping the ante on situations (like “stoking the flames”) but literally no one gets it and he’s honestly a little grumpy about it.

The Magnus Archives is an institute based in Zadash, but features satellite locations across the empire. While they don’t deal so much with magical beasts, they do record instances regarding otherworldly beings with the intent of understanding and keeping tabs on them. Of course, why wouldn’t the Great Old Ones take notice?

Georgie Barker says Fuck Magic. She’s a rogue with a familiar because Fuck Magic Rules.

AAAAAAND Critrole in London!! I can’t really see them working for the Archives, but Beau has big archival assistant energies so she’s mostly their correspondent, if that makes sense?

Listen. I know I said that Uk’otoa is a stand-in for the Buried in this post but honestly?? The eye imagery is kind of throwing me off. So straight up the Falchion is straight up a sword that Fjord has and it’s influenced by both the Beholding and the Buried

The Cobalt Soul is still a library, but it also doubles as an archives ruled somewhat by the Beholding. It has given Beau the ability to analyze her enemies and compel truth Jon-style, but she’s not super happy about it.

It’s very easy to say that Caleb is tied to the Desolation, but more than the fire thing I think he has a deep connection to destruction on a personal and inter-personal level. So, Desolation.

It literally cannot be clearer to me that Jester is an avatar of the Stranger and she SUPER digs it. The only thing keeping her from going Full Monster honestly is her love for her friends

Molly seems very The Hunt to me, not just by virtue of being a blood hunter but also in the sense that he’s running from something unknown. I get the vibe that in this AU Molly had a run-in with the hunt years ago, but now finds himself tied to it. He also has powerful Web energies.

I struggled with Nott but in some ways she seems very The Lonely to me. She’s isolated from her past in a way that very much affects her present, and it’s interesting to me that the Lonely seems to attach itself to individuals, if that makes sense? I’m not saying Nott has claimed Caleb as Her Person because of the Lonely’s influence but it definitely helped.

Yasha “Orphan Maker” Nydoorin as a quiet and controlled but still massively dangerous avatar of the Slaughter HELLO???

Caduceus just thinks the Corruption is neat

5. Sibling Swap AU + Power Rangers RPM; Scott & Dillon

Dillion is the vengix infiltration bot and he enjoys messsing with the green ranger most of all out of the whole team

Scott died honorably in the line of duty serving humanity or so they all thought

Marcus was chosen by Dr.K to be series operator Red

Marcus won’t admit it but fact that they removed the visor on the black helmet makes Tanya like 10x creepier even though it does protect her head better

Marcus is lowkey the entire team's older brother

Dillion isn’t really a fan of the fact the black ranger seems to know how to fight him at every turn

The more machine Tanya gets the more her eyes begin to work and this disorients her since she not used to being able to see and Dillion takes advantage in fights before she morphs

Ziggy has a weird thing for Dillion, not a crush per se but like a weird thing. Something about a man in a tight leather suit

Dillion does the low zipper thing that you see on female spies in movies where it shows off their chests a little but like it’s his pecks and odd wires sticking out. Like the worlds stupidest chest hair Summer once called it

Gem and Gemma have a competition to see who can yank one of those wires first

Dillion would like them to stop reaching for his chest

the second infiltration bot was smart and wore his cover all the time which sucked because of how difficult fighting a second one of them already was

of course this was before Marcus knocked his visor off to see his face, "Scott?" "who the hell is Scott?"

they now had to live with the fact that the second bot and possibly Dillon too were at one point human and that Scott doesn't remember being human

Marcus fights with his dad unendingly about the development about whether or not scott is still in there

eventually they make dillon bleed and he gets himself scanned and discovers tanya is his sister, then he forces scott to also get scanned proving to him that he's also human

they go to the rangers for answers and marcus tries to show scott picture to jog his memories to no success

dillon and tanya brood together and it's about as good as they get after Dillon comments on how tanya and summer were holding hands when he and scott came in

Dillon gets recaptured and reprogrammed while Dr.K makes Scott a Crimson suit to aid them as the 8th ranger of their team

Scott feels bad fighting dillon knowing they are so much the same but that doesn't stop him from fighting his hardest
