ÄLSKANDE PAR (1964) dir. Mai Zetterling Stockholm, 1915. Three women are about to give birth in a clinic: Agda, Adèle and Angela. As they wait, the women remember their childhoods, their sexual maturity, and their encounters with a sexist and patriarchal society. Aristocrat Angela grows up coddled, and falls in love with an older woman, Petra. Farmer Adèle grows up feeling neglected and abandoned by men, and eventually comes to hate them. Housemaid Agda grows up cheerful and optimistic, yet taken advantage of by several men. These flashbacks collide as the three women meet at a Midsommar celebration in 1914 and become pregnant.
