Artist statement:

I have been doing fine art photography of couples being sexual since 1999. I have photographed 190 couples to date, ranging in age from 19 to 75, including a wide variety of body types, genders, sexual preferences, sexual orientations, and ethnic groups. My intention is to create emotionally honest images of everyday people as an antidote to the stylized sexual images available through commercial pornography. I photograph people at home, where they can feel most comfortable and able to be themselves. It is a privilege to be welcomed into people’s most personal spaces. I attempt through my photographs to honor that trust by realistically capturing the emotional depth of what I am witnessing.

David Steinberg is an activist, writer, and photographer based in San Francisco, CA.
