my I Need Money post (AKA, please consider helping me survive my abusive homelife)
Hi! Iâm Cecil. Iâm a 20 year old transgender artist from Louisiana, and I can make YOU art!
Art is my sole source of income, and Iâm in a bit of a pickle. I am an adult now, and I gotta do adult things. like pay off debt. My sibling is 17. We are both victims of abuse and child neglect at the hands of our alcoholic parents. Itâs not so great, but Iâd like it to get better.
Iâm disabled from medical neglect, and have no way to get my driverâs license. I am unable to get a job, as I live too far from anywhere that would hire me, with no way to get there. This is all I got, man! I got two hands and a warriorâs spirit!
My sibling is my pride and joy and I want to see them flourish and thrive because theyâre awesome. They struggle with untreated bipolar disorder and a slew of medical problems, and I want to get them treated for it. I also need to take my two cats to the vet. I have debt I have to pay off, and I have to buy myself food to combat my increasingly declining weight. My clothes donât fit very well anymore. :(
Art and design is my life-long passion, and Iâd like to do it for the rest of my life, but I canât if I canât get on my feet. If youâd like to view more of my work, you can check some out here, or view some of my more professional work on my commission website here.
If you would like to financially support me, consider commissioning or donating! Even just sharing helps!
https://ckncommission.carrd.co/
https://ko-fi.com/cknelysium
On a serious note, things at home are not great. This is where I talk about what is going on in detail. Details of abuse and neglect beyond this point. Not required reading, but necessary for context. Photos included.
Itâs not that Iâm just poor, my parents both work full-time jobs, and they manage to pay the bills. I have food and a roof over my head, but I own nothing but debt, and canât financially support myself. My parents have been neglecting my sibling for years, and neglected me the same. They do nothing to help us.
My sibling is showing signs of health deterioration, likely malnutrition, and they donât seem to be concerned about it at all. My health is getting worse, too, because my parents have ignored me when I have stated I am getting worse. I havenât been to the dentist ever since I was a child. I live with disabling chronic pain and intense fatigue, and I donât even have a diagnosis, since no one will take me to the doctor.
My sibling likely not going to graduate because my parents have not supported them at all with their mental health, education, or support them just in general. They live in total isolation alongside me. My parents are also the reason why I canât get a job- they wonât teach me how to drive, and wonât provide transportation. I am physically trapped in my own house, and the only people who can drive refuse to take us anywhere. They also will not help clean the house, and they wonât help fix our dryer or washer, which are both broken. They wonât take our pets to the vet. They wonât spare any expenses for things that need to be done. They spend most of their money on alcohol. In my state, we are currently experiencing what one would call abuse and child neglect. This is one of the only times I have ever written, in detail, what my home life is like.
Our washer and dryer, both broken. We donât have any flooring in that room. The other is part of our living room floor. I am the only person who cleans the house in any capacity, and when I do it never, ever stays clean. The dirt is from my dad alone. I need to cover doctorâs visits, medication, food for my sibling, and vet costs for my pets. I would also maybe like to have a little treat every once in a while. I canât physically drive, but if I am able to get the money for it, I can force my parents to take care of things. Due to the, er, abuse, I am also isolated from the world at large and have no support system. All things described on my sibling have been happening to me for years, but Iâm technically an adult now, so thereâs little anyone can do for me. Things arenât so great, but I think they can get better through blood sweat and tears. Which is why I have to step up and try to do all these things myself! A difficult task, but I want to make art into something I could do as a job. Please lord have mercy, I want to wash my clothes. I can even save up for a car, and teach myself how to drive, so I can finally reach independence. Without financial support, I canât achieve that at all. I am very stressed about everything. Iâm very isolated as a result of not being allowed to go anywhere. I donât have anyone I can confidently trust with my home-life situation. I have no resources either, as I live in an area with very little support for adult victims of parental abuse. Iâve never made a plea like this before. I just want to be able to live and thrive and survive on my own, and I just canât do it at this rate. If I can go to the doctor, I can get healthier, and undo all the years of medical neglect and actually hold a full-time job making coffee like Iâd like. Iâm afraid both me and my sibling will never get anywhere in life, and I donât want that for them. I donât want that for me. I want to finally start living. Thank you for reading, and getting to the end.

Kiera Butler at Mother Jones:
Earlier this month, former President Donald Trump held his first campaign rally as a convicted felon at Dream City Church in Phoenix, Arizona, hosted by the arch-conservative student group Turning Point USA. This wasnât Trumpâs first appearance at Dream City Church; he also held a rally there with Turning Point USA in 2020. For events like this, itâs an ideal venue: A weekly attendance of around 21,000 believers makes this one of the largest churches not just in Arizona but in the nation.
Dream City, which didnât respond to my questions for this story, is a mecca for special guests who blur the line between religion and politics. Its annual conference has featured notables like musician and pastor Sean Feucht, who participated in a White House prayer session for President Trump in 2019 and is currently leading a tour of prayer rallies at state capitol buildings across the country. The lineup for this yearâs event also included David Barton, whose organization, WallBuilders, teaches K-12 students about the supposed Christian origins of America; JĂŒrgen Mathesius, a pastor at San Diegoâs far-right Awaken Church, which has become a stop on Mike Flynnâs ReAwaken America tour; and Jentezen Franklin, a televangelist who also spoke at the 2022 Pray Vote Stand Summit, which mobilizes conservative Christian voters to engage in political activism.
In addition to its thrumming weekly worship sessions and its blockbuster events, the church has another project: Dream City Christian Academy. The K-12 private school, which serves nearly 800 students, is part of Turning Point USAâs Turning Point Academy program, a network of 41 schools that describes itself as âan educational movement that exists to glorify God and preserve the founding principles of the United States through influencing and inspiring the formation of the next generation.â Dream City Christian Academy promises to âProtect our campus from the infiltration of unethical agendas by rejecting all âwokeâ and untruthful ideologies being pushed on students.â This politically charged approach to education likely isnât for everyoneâand because itâs a private school, it doesnât have to be. Except for one thing: Dream City Christian Academy is one of a growing number of religious schools that are supported by public funds.
In 2022, Arizona became the first state in which all students are allowed to use state vouchers to cover a portion of tuition at any private school, secular or religious. Through Empowerment Scholarship Accounts, each participating family receives about 90 percent of the money the state would have spent on the childâs public school educationâaround $7,000 per student per yearâfor private school tuition. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Dream City Christian Academy annual tuition ranges from $10,450 in elementary school to $13,999 in high schoolâso families of the schoolâs nearly 800 students can use state funds to pay for between half and two-thirds of their tuition bill. Dream City Christian Academy received almost $1 million in tuition voucher money last year, the Arizona Republic recently reported.
Since Arizona passed its universal voucher law, 10 more states have followed suit. According to an analysis by Education Week, 29 states currently have programs that provide such assistance to a variety of different students many of whom attend local public schools that perform poorly. It also targets those with a disability that requires specialized education and those whose families earn significantly less than the federal poverty level. More programs are in the works: Lawmakers in both Louisiana and South Carolina recently advanced bills that would create programs like Arizonaâs that are open to all students. When state funds are available for private school choice programs, a recent Washington Post analysis found that religious schools receive upwards of 90 percent of that money.
[...] A prerequisite for students and their families to attend some of the schools that currently receive voucher money is that they accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior. In March, the education blog Notes from the Chalkboard highlighted one such school. Students attending North Carolinaâs Daniel Christian Academy, are trained to âenter the Seven Mountains of Influence,â a main tenet of a Christian Nationalist movement known as the New Apostolic Reformation. Its adherents believe that the faithful are called to seek Christian control of the âseven mountainsâ of society: family, education, media, government, business, arts & entertainment, and religion. Many New Apostolic Reformation followers believe that waging âspiritual warfareâ is justified in achieving these goals, though Daniel Christian Academy specifies that its endorsement of the Seven Mountains Mandate âin no way includes violence or manipulation at any level.â
Americans United for Separation of Church and Stateâs Laser worries that the proliferation of private school voucher programs will open the door to even more permissive rules around the use of public education dollars to teach religion. She points to a suite of bills that would allow public schools to employ chaplains, and even more remarkably, to an Oklahoma Catholic school called St. Isidore of Seville, which is set to become the nationâs first Christian public charter school this fall. The overarching goal of these initiatives, she says, is to âbestow a power and privilege on Christians in our country, at the expense of all the other religions in America.â Meanwhile, public education is robbed  âof the funding that itâs entitled to.â
Mother Jones reports on the disturbing trend of Christian Nationalists opening taxpayer-funded private schools with the intention to indoctrinate students with right-wing politics and a Christian Nationalist worldview.

WOMENS LIVES MATTER
women and LITTLE GIRLS will be FORCED to carry their r4pists babies , if a little girl gives birth, she has a MUCH higher risk of dying in childbirth than a grown woman, her organs will RUPTURE and TEAR permanently. HER BODY WILL BE RUINED FOREVER, SHE WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH TWICE THE TRAUMA. not only does she have the trauma of being r4ped, but also the trauma of childbirth AS A CHILD HERSELF.
in Georgia, a d&c is considered an abortion, this recently KILLED 2 women.
miscarriages and stillbirths in some states already are considered abortions, and women will be FORCED to carry her DEAD FETUS inside of her if her body doesnt get rid of it itself, to term and it will KILL her if not removed.
women risk 2000+ diseases, permanent damage, death, etc from giving birth and being pregnant.
with the banning of birth control and contraceptives, and possible forced pregnancies, criminalization of non-straight relationships and criminalization of sex before marriage, as well as criminalization of porn, for the sake of âpurity cultureâ which those who want to implement this law and reverse separation of church and state, dont even practice themselves, we all know the men wanting these laws and bans constantly cheat on their wives and watch revenge porn.
in North Carolina, it did not pass, but project 2025 states the same idea, there was a bill considered that women who got or seeked abortions would get the death penalty. project 2025 states drug dealers will face the death penalty. trans and gay ppl could face the death penalty or life in prison. fucking r4pists (without also k*lling someone) never ever get that sentence. if they dont walk free, they get probation or at maximum 15 years, and usually the sentence is cut and they normally dont serve more than 3 years. maximum.
in Texas, women who want an abortion need permission from a man. (this was before the ban) even if she was r4ped, she would need ti ask her r4pists permission first or notify him.
in Louisiana, if a r4pist wants to see his victims baby, she MUST give him rights to visitation, or she could face a fine or prison time.
last year in Ohio, a 10 year old girl was r4ped by her uncle, her family took her out of state to get an abortion, which saved her life, her family and the doctor got trialedâŠ
i once read a comment on a youtube video from a former nurse, she said she had to watch a 10 year old girl, who had been r4ped by her uncle, give birth to his baby. the nurse said she was holding a stuffed koala bear and she had to watch the little girl cry and scream as she stuck the IV in her little arm. i cried after i read that.
this isnt about abortion but christian nationalism, In Louisiana, starting in January, all public school teachers will be REQUIRED to display the 10 christian commandments in their classroom, they have no choice. but these are the ppl mad about a pride flag or black lives matter flag in public school classrooms. and anyone who DARES teaches anything about LGBTQ will be required to register as a sex offender. and risks prison time and a fine.
women, all women, but especially women of color, disabled women, and trans women, already had a hard time accessing healthcare/getting proper diagnosis. now thanks to the republikkkans and trump, it will now be even harder, women will fucking die, women will suffer, now, doctors have the right to deny female, lgbtq, disabled people, and poc basic healthcare if they âdont agreeâ and this will be if we get lucky, and doesnt become completely illegal for us to live. minorities in america are no longer seen as people. to them, women are baby farms and lgbtq people are walking pornography and a threat to children. and those are just two examples. and this isnt just about denying female organ surgeries, or gender affirming surgery, but if the doctor âdoesnt agreeâ and i have a broken leg, they have the right to deny me a cast.
women are already DYING. more women will continue to DIE. if you voted for this, BLOOD IS ON YOUR HANDS. ITS YOUR FUCKING FAULT. and this is just the TIP of the iceberg.
#feminism#women#woc#women matter#fuck the patriarchy#womens rights#project 2025#fuck the republikkkans

Hey do you have any poetry you can suggest because I saw your response to that OP, Iâd love some stuff to read!
so i started responding to another similar ask by @unitedstates0fdakota but i accidentally posted it when it was incomplete so i decided to continue here! check out that post for the first two recs, george abraham's birthright and romeo oriogun's sacrament of bodies
more than organs, kay ulanday barrett
kay ulanday barrett is a poet, performer, and educator, navigating life as a disabled filipinx-amerikan transgnder queer in the u.s. with struggle, resistance, and laughter. pamela sneed, one of the reviewers quoted on the back of more than organs, describes the collection as about âhunger that is physical, spiritual, and queerâ, and i think hunger is an excellent way to put it. i love how the pieces in this collection oscillate between visceral and playful â thereâs a poem called âpain, an epistleâ but also one called âactually, jenny schecter wasnât the worstâ.
you googled âauthenticâ / & now are seated next to me. / as I speed walk you to the cart / aunty gives me the last dish / gets the idea that Iâve waited too long / for something to just taste right. / I wish for a dumpling stuff / of bullet skins to be the shrapnel / in every white manâs throat. / go ahead / say the word oriental / at my table / one more time. â Â âI just want dimsum undisturbed by wypipoâ
a theory of birds, zaina alsous
zaina alsous is a prison abolitionist, a daughter of the palestinian diaspora, and a movement worker in south florida. the blurb for a theory of birds describes it as âputting ecological conservation in conversation with arab racial formation, state vernacular with the chatter of birdsâ, and as someone who wanted to be an ornithologist as a child and now works in climate policy, it feels like she wrote this to speak to my soul.
Inside the dodo bird is a forest, Inside the forest a peach analog, Inside the peach analog a woman, Inside the woman a lake of funerals, disappointed male lovers, scientists, Inside the lake a volcano of whale songs, Inside the volcano a language of naming, Inside the language an algorithm for de-extinction, Inside the algorithm blued dynamite to dissolve the colonyâs Sun, twinkle twinkle, I didnât mean to fall in love with failure, its molting rapture, I didnât mean to name myself from a necklace of silent vowels, I didnât go looking from for the bird, I entered through the empty cage, hips first â Â âBird Preludeâ
boy with thorn, rickey laurentiis
rickey laurentiis is a poet who was raised in new orleans, louisiana, to study light. this is true for a lot of poetry imo, but every piece in boy with thorn requires reading at least twice in a row, because laurentiisâs use of language is so deft and stuffed with meaning that i needed to experience it from different angles. the description for the collection tells us âin a landscape at once the brutal american south as it is the brutal mind, boy with thorn interrogates the genesis of all poetic creationâthe imagination itself, questioning what role it plays in both our fascinations with and repulsion from a national history of racial and sexual violenceâ.
Therefore, my head was kingless. I was a head alone, moaning in a wet black field. I was like any of those deserter slaves whose graves are just the pikes raised for their heads, reshackled, blue and plain as fear. All night I whistled at a sky that mocked me, that fluently changed its grammar as if to match desire in my eye. My freedom is possible, it said. â Â âConditions for a Southern Gothicâ
eye level, jenny xie
this is kind of cheating because i first read eye level when it came out in 2017, but i recently reread it so i feel like it counts! jenny xie was born in anhui province, china, and now lives in the united states. eye level travels with xie from phnom penh to corfu to hanoi to new york city, and her descriptions piercing, sensual, and bottomless.
Sunday, awake with this headache. I pull apart the evening with a fork. White clot behind the eyes. Someone once told me, before and after is just another false binary. The warmed-over bones of January. I had no passport. Beneath the stove, two mice made a paradise out of a button of peanut butter. Suffering operates by its own logic. Its gropics and reversals. Ample, in ways that are exquisite. And how it leaves ânot unlike how it arrives, without clear notice. â Â âZuihitsuâ
i also post about english-language palestinian poetry (both written in english and in translation) in my #palestinian poets series, each of which features poems you can find online!

https://www.splcenter.org/hopewatch/2024/08/23/voter-access-laws-affect-you
Voters casting a ballot in the South may encounter recently passed laws that could suppress the vote.
As the Southern Poverty Law Center continues to encourage voter turnout through its The Southâs Got Now | Decidimos campaign, here are some laws Southern voters need to watch out for this election year:
Alabama
The Alabama Legislature passed two bills during the 2024 legislative session that limit ballot access. SB 1 makes voting absentee harder and criminalizes helping others apply for an absentee ballot if they receive any compensation or gift for such assistance. This particularly harms communities such as older people, college students, people with disabilities, low-literacy voters and incarcerated people. Whatâs more, the law doesnât define what constitutes a gift. Ultimately, there may be a chilling effect as people choose not to help neighbors or family members due to fear of arrest.
Under Alabamaâs HB 100, the list of felony convictions that can disqualify a person from voting is greatly expanded. The SPLC flatly opposes felony disenfranchisement as it exists today, much less massive expansions of it as seen with this law, which will take effect after Novemberâs election.
Florida
In Florida, SB 524, a 2022 law, mandates that vote-by-mail ballot requests expire every two years.
The first major election this law affects is the November 2024 election. If you havenât already done so, be sure to submit a new request this year. Also, tell others wishing to vote by mail to do the same!
SB 7050, passed in 2023, could leave more voters at risk of their registration being canceled. For example, the lawâs voter list maintenance requirements could lead to voters having their registrations purged. It also places undue regulations on organizations that help individuals register to vote.
Georgia
SB 189 makes it easier for people to file voter challenges against anyone, potentially increasing the number of baseless voter challenges while driving up the cost in time and money for elections administrators who must consider these challenges.
Louisiana
The state Legislature used this yearâs session to pass four new restrictions on voter registration and absentee ballot processes.
Under HB 506, people and groups that hold voter registration drives must register with the secretary of state to review related laws. However, as a news report noted, the specific requirements for compliance are vague.
SB 226 says any absentee-by-mail ballot missing required information that is not fixed by the voter in the time required under law will require a majority of members of the parishâs board of election supervisors to validate it. The law is part of a larger effort erecting barriers to voting by creating opportunities to reject votes on technicalities.
HB 476 states that unless you are a voterâs immediate family member, you canât deliver more than one marked ballot to the registrar. And SB 155 says itâs illegal to witness the certificate of more than one voter who isnât an immediate family member. This disenfranchises voters, such as people with disabilities or older people, who rely on help from neighbors or friends to cast their ballots.
Mississippi
SB 2425 restricts who can witness a person signing their absentee ballot, how many ballots an individual can witness a person signing and who can return the ballots for another voter. This law, like some of those listed for Alabama and Louisiana, disenfranchises voters who rely on help from neighbors or friends to cast their ballots.
Donât despair, vote!
These laws should not discourage you. They should inspire you to act. Remember, as a U.S. citizen, your vote is your superpower. Your vote helps democracy flourish. Cast your ballot on Election Day.

Cathay Williams, first African-American woman to serve in the U.S. Army
November 15, 1866: Cathay Williams became the first African American woman to serve in the U.S. Army, and the only woman to serve in the U.S. Army as a Buffalo Soldier.
Williams was born to an enslaved mother and a free father in Independence, Missouri in 1844. At 17 years old, Williams first served as an Army cook and a washerwoman. During this time, African Americans who had been captured were forced to serve in military support as contraband for Union forces. Williams enlisted in the U.S. Regular Army under the false name âWilliam Cathayâ on November 15, 1866. She was assigned to the 38th U.S. infantry Regiment, one of the all-black regiments recently established, that would become part of the renown Buffalo Soldiers. The Army did not require full medical exams at the time, so she was able to pass as a man.
When Williams began to feel the effects of smallpox and was hospitalized, it was discovered that she was actually a woman. Lewis was honorably discharged by her commanding officer, Captain Charles E. Clarke, on October 14, 1868. Following her discharge, Williams went to work as a cook at Fort Union, New Mexico, and later moved to Pueblo, Colorado. Around 1889 or 1890, Williams entered a hospital and applied for disability pension based on her medical service. Her request was denied. In 1893, a doctorâs examination revealed that Willaims suffered from neuralgia and diabetes. She had all her toes amputated and walked with a crutch. The doctor determined that she did not qualify for disability payments. While the exact date of her death is unknown, it is believed that Williams died shortly after she was denied.
Williamsâ interview that was published in the St. Louis Daily Times on January 2, 1876:
"My Father a was a freeman, but my mother a slave, belonging to William Johnson, a wealthy farmer who lived at the time I was born near Independence, Jackson county, Missouri. While I was a small girl my master and family moved to Jefferson City. My master died there and when the war broke out and the United States soldiers came to Jefferson City they took me and other colored folks with them to Little Rock. Col. Benton of the 13th army corps was the officer that carried us off. I did not want to go. He wanted me to cook for the officers, but I had always been a house girl and did not know how to cook. I learned to cook after going to Little Rock and was with the army at The Battle of Pea Ridge. Afterwards the command moved over various portions of Arkansas and Louisiana. I saw the soldiers burn lots of cotton and was at Shreveport when the rebel gunboats were captured and burned on Red River. We afterwards went to New Orleans, then by way of the Gulf to Savannah Georgia, then to Macon and other places in the South. Finally I was sent to Washington City and at the time Gen. Sheridan made his raids in the Shenandoah valley I was cook and washwoman for his staff I was sent from Virginia to some place in Iowa and afterwards to Jefferson Barracks, where I remained some time. You will see by this paper that on the 15th day of November 1866 I enlisted in the United States army at St. Louis, in the Thirty-eighth United States Infantry Company A, Capt. Charles E. Clarke commanding. Captain Charles E. Clarke in the Civil War 6th Infantry at the Battle of Baton Rouge. "The regiment I joined wore the Zouave uniform and only two persons, a cousin and a particular friend, members of the regiment, knew that I was a woman. They never 'blowed' on me. They were partly the cause of my joining the army. Another reason was I wanted to make my own living and not be dependent on relations or friends. Soon after I joined the army, I was taken with the small-pox and was sick at a hospital across the river from St. Louis, but as soon as I got well I joined my company in New Mexico. I was as that paper says, I was never put in the guard house, no bayonet was ever put to my back. I carried my musket and did guard and other duties while in the army, but finally I got tired and wanted to get off. I played sick, complained of pains in my side, and rheumatism in my knees. The post surgeon found out I was a woman and I got my discharge. The men all wanted to get rid of me after they found out I was a woman. Some of them acted real bad to me. After leaving the army I went to Pueblo, Colorado, where I made money by cooking and washing. I got married while there, but my husband was no account. He stole my watch and chain, a hundred dollars in money and my team of horses and wagon. I had him arrested and put in jail, and then I came here. I like this town. I know all the good people here, and I expect to get rich yet. I have not got my land warrant. I thought I would wait till the railroad came and then take my land near the depot. Grant owns all this land around here, and it won't cost me anything. I shall never live in the states again. You see I've got a good sewing machine and I get washing to do and clothes to make. I want to get along and not be a burden to my friends or relatives."

Leticia Wright stars in the 2023 film Surrounded. Her character, Moses âMoâ Washington, was modeled after the Cathay Williams. Iâm also seeing a bit of Stagecoach Mary in Wrightâs character.

Now that I am back in the Haunted Mansion fandom with fresher set of mind and headcanons, here is finally a good non exhaustive HC info dump for my favorite character the Hatbox Ghost himself for new stuff I've made up or never told before in the tag !
I've been hesitating but in the end I've been influenced by @it-be-sid and accepted it : Hattie is autistic. It fits my take on him of hyperfixating on specific things (my old silly headcanon he is a huge fan of TLK Scar, and canon that he collects hatboxes and is passionate about it) and being great at them, of being an introverted asocial grump who avoids the ballroom and graveyard party because it makes him uncomfortable and requires efforts from him and is more at ease woth the brides in the calm attic, has a hard time making friends and Emily is his big exception and why he has been single and alone for decades prior, hates change and has a hard time adapting to new things and prefers how it was back in his day, and why he enjoys being a scary ghost so much since it allows him to not interact with society anymore and just boo them away. IT ALL MAKES SENSE WHY DIDN'T I EVER THINK OF IT OR ACCEPT IT EARLIER !?
He needs the tiniest spectacles to read, which makes him look nerdy to some and cute to others
As you guys know I HC his name is Randall Pace, from the SLG comics (just the name, not the mentality or origin story though) and that he and most recognizable characters died in 1877 (I DON'T CARE WHAT THE CURRENT CANON SAYS LORE CHANGES ALL THE TIME IN THAT FRANCHISE). He was born in Khansas countryside in 1820. His parents were not dirt poor but they certainly struggled, but were loving and supportive to him and each other, and worked hard at the grocery store to make sure he would have a good life despite his disability (born limping needing a cane and hunchbacked) and could afford his training in hat making which he had found himself to be loving quite early often fixing his parents' hats with glee. Either from the hard work or how life wasn't easy in general, it isn't certain, they died when he was a young man. Grieving and recently new hatter, he didn't feel like staying but starting a whole new life in Louisiana (gonna accept the Mansion is around New Orleans since it's recurring in a lot of canons) far away to make sure they didn't die for nothing and that he would make them proud starting from 0 with his knowledge, his qualification and all the money left
Force of hardworking mixed in with smart working not to die of exhaustion like they did, he little by little became a renowed hatter at the one shop he started at for how efficiently and quickly he fixed hats and quickly learned to make pretty designs popular with ladies. And keeping up with fashion always helped. He was a brilliant employee who workef assiduously and saved a lot until he could open his own business, Pace & Co. He worked alone for a while until he finally could afford himself some employees and teach them how to do it. Good with money anf quality business, by the time he was in his 50's it took him long enough but he had made himself a great fortune. But a mysterious one not very popular among the elited since he never attended society parties lol
He never approved the slavery existing in the south, his humble family having worked and known POC neighbors and treating each other as equals. He always glared with intense disgust at slave owners when they still existed and made them pay much more than needee, and was very glad the war was lost where he was. In fact one of his first employee was a free young black man he had hired, taught and paid very well after he had been freed. When Hattie got married, he was his right wing man and when he died suddenly the very same night, Pace and Co went to him since there was no other heir to the company but him. It still exists to tgis day with a new name (his name is Zeke Holloway. Yeah I know usually I am the first to be annoyed when a character is raceswapped since to me it is obviously unnecessary and to get brownie points BUT I see HM as the same logic as the superhero genre : a ton of continuities where everybody is different from one reality to another, heck the Beating Heart Bride is black in the 2003 movie and Japanese in Tokyo DL lore and Constance is black in the recent Muppets movie so why not !)
He never had been in love with anyone before Emily. Whom he met at age 55. Ever. She had been his first love and kiss just like he was to her. His autism/lack of need for socializing and love for being left alone mixed in with his dedication to his work and focus on his hobbies and passions with a touch of him not being attractive at all (not ugly per say, but... yeah, not attractive) not helped by his disformities, golden tooth and how he balded like all men in his family from his mid 30's didn't make him know anyone before. Not the time to meet, nor anyone into him making the first step anyway. He would be lying if he said back then he didn't feel regret as he got old he would never have a family or know that feeling, but had ended up accepted it and embracing his bachelor status, even rejecting offers from important families who saw profit if their daughters could be with that rich old man with a nice inheritance at key. He did intend to reject Miss Emily Gracey and was not interested at all and it was mutual, they agreed not to play along with her family who insisted for them to get to know each other so it should have stopped there. And yet, force of speaking and learning about each other during these forced meetings... you know how my headcanons go <3
Yes I also imply there he also was a 57 years old virgin and Emily wasn't the only one to pop her cherry that night when they couldn't hold themselves anymore after 2 years of courting and got jiggy the very night he proposed. It was very awkward for both of them, but they are so in love it remains a very pleasant memory for both. Ironically now he is dead he is less tired and feels no more back pain, now after 156 years of marriage he is VERY experimented and knows jist what shr loves so he rocks her world to the other brides' dismay. Or anyone passing by when it happens, really
As you know I have been drawing him and his wife with silvery wedding bands for years as an excuse/justificatiin about why we don't see them on their animatronics like it would if it were golden, him being grey and she being in the dark. Now I even made an origin : they were his parents'. They were not rich but like their son would later had a love marriage and had made sure to have the luxury to have silver rings, not gold but still precious. When they died, he took them with the intent to maybe use them one day if he were to find his half (not that he looked very much) and keep them as family heirlooms in the meantime for how much they symbolized their love and how much he shipped it. So when decades later he proposed to Emily and the wedding was being organized, he sweetly suggested her to use those with the story going behind them, for how much they meant to him and how it could make their marriage as strong as theirs was. Emily found it so romantic and sweet she accepted, and to this day their skeletons in their graves have them and themselves wear ghostly versions of them all the time
Ghosts don't need to eat or sleep obviously, they just do out of gluttony and sloth, comfort and rest, and recretional purpose. He is one of those who eat and drink the least (he already skipped meals when alive so imagine now), but he is a slut for gumbo, beignets and poboys. Gosh does he love Louisiana food. For it he is that clip with Homer in New Orleans. However he loves to sleep. He can cuddle with his wife that way, but also he just always loved to sleep. It helped as a mortal with his back pain, and even now he doesn't feel pain anymore it comforts him to do so
He had broken his tooth when falling from the ladder when clearing up shelves in his shop once. He wasn't that mad, he saw it as the opportunity to show off his well-earned wealth by making the new one out of gold
Indeed Hattie loves to look good, as a mortal he had multiple hats, attires and shoes for any occasion. An extravagance he had loved to afford ever since he got the money for it. The fact he died pantless in his most humble attire and cloak is a source of frustration if pointed out. Whenever he can leave his ghost gig for a moment he swaps for MUCH better ones
He still fixes hats and even makes new ones for any ghost who asks. For free now since ghost money isn't earned from work (I still have to figure out how), but his ego is flattered they still come to him even in death for that. He is now as scary as talented, Hell yeah. He also is a good fashion adviser for men and women alike when they want to wear something over their usual ghostly versions of the attires they died in
He and Emily did suffer for years to be childless, but he is in a way essentially the Little Blue Bride and the Corpse Bride's (who I remind are sisters and minors on my take) father figure, scolding them when needed and comforting them or giving the best advice he can
He calls Constance a hag or an old hag no matter how she is even younger than he is. It is to enrage her but also how he perceives her since she is his beloathed aunt in law who now lives in HIS attic since 2006. Ironically he calls nothing the Spinster Bride like that, as much as she freaks him out with his extravagant and extroverted she is he does respect and like her. Unlike Constance lol
He can't stand the Hitchhiking Ghosts. When he was banished for 46 years away from the Mansion but not the Graveyard for having accidentally killed Yale Gracey aka the last living Gracey he had to endure them as annoying grave neighbors who kept trying too much to socialize with him or troll him as a mean to "bond". Didn't work at all. Now he nearly hates them as much as his in laws
Being a Gracey by extension, being married to one, he is invited to the annual Gracey-only ballroom, he was even when he was still banished. Sure he came not to embarrass his wife nor cause a scandal, and during his banishment to have an excuse to be in for a night, but he sure is bored and hates being in the same room as Master Gracey (father in law), the Ghost Host (uncle in law) and Constance and be polite to them. It goes as far as them starting to passive aggressively insult and mock each other everytime
He has never been the same again after he watched The Lion King. He isn't a fan of a lot of modern things, but this one, and SCAR... he could make you 1 312932 pages essay to explain how he is a perfect Shakespearean villain in a perfect complex snd deep movie. It kind of bores everyone friends and wife included but at least he is happy, the latter thinks
He and Emily are the annoying TOO lovey dovey and sometimes TOO openly horny couple you would love in fiction but hate in real life, often dancing or being mushy or being super romantic both in gestures and in words. He adorzs her and still can't believe he was sure for years love wasn't for him, she enabled the romantic in him and he SPOILS her whenever he can. They have a new honeymoon in a luxury haunted place for every 5th anniversary and it will never stop. He'd die-die for her and it's mutual
He has managed to tame bats when he was bored during his banishment. He got attached and since then keeps having pet bats. He always call them Batty because he sucks at names. Batty 1, Batty 2, Batty 3... (yes it is based on that cute plush of him, canon)
He is scared of tornados. There were a lot in Khansas. Fortunately none in Louisiana so far, and he is dead already anyway, but he is quite paranoid about the fact it could come one day. One day. ONE DAY...
He also is very scared of the Phantom. I had already mentionned that during his banishment he once tried to find another haunted house and found Phantom Manor which would result in a "GET OUT" type of scenario. As soon as he realized he was very dangerous even to other ghosts as well as a psycho and a tyrant to all the other ghosts who intended to do the same to hil, the Phantom he until then saw as an elegant chap with a cool hat now gives him the same goosebumps the Wolf gives Puss in Boots whenever he thinks he is near. The fact he befriended MĂ©lanie and became friend with her but couldn't help her out still haunts him with guilt
He is of a good nature and kind (as I said he is a great friend, helps with hats and fashion for free, is an amazing husband and was a good boss who hated racism), he is still very bombastic, dramatic, eloquent about anything he is passionate about at the moment (both negatively and positively), a sarcastic grump, the epitome of the meme with the guy who closes the widow to blog in the dark, a deadpan snarker as well as a show off who doesn't really know modesty and loves to habe his ego stroked whether be it by compliments or by being aknowledged as a scary haunt. Nouveau riche syndrome probably
When post-fanon time he and Emily finally gets to find out she had been pregnant the whole time as a ghost (she had died pregnant), and a spell allowed it to come to terms and their daughter Belle to be born, he has been a great father so hard. Sometimes strict, but usually very playful, proud, happy, conniving, silly... she makes him cry with joy often. He is so happy to finally get to experience parenthood with the love of his afterlifr after having craved for it for centuries thinking it would never happen. The light og his death, a miracle who makes the attic even more bearable

OP is being a wet sock in the comments for some bizarre reason, so since Iâm U.S. based hereâs a link to all the United States requirements for relicensing physicians because I think itâs an imperative resource for chronically ill and disabled people to have:
Due to individual states deciding these requirements, theyâre obviously insanely varied. This impacts the way that patient care is delivered SIGNIFICANTLY, especially in physicians who have stayed in the same states and have been meeting those lower standards for many years, compounding their paucity of knowledge and lowering the quality of care their patients can receive.
Generally, 50hrs/yr is the average, with retesting every 1-4yrs, but some states such as Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana have them at 20hrs/yr or lower.
This means, that over only 8 years of practice, an MD in Washington state (50 hrs/yr) has obtained up to 304 more credit hours than an MD in Alabama (12 hrs/yr).
Youâll also notice that states with the lowest CME requirements (highlighted) also happen to make up the states with the highest maternal mortality ratesâŠ
That correlation aside, we KNOW that CE is incredibly important, and that doctors with CE have better patient outcomes. The fact that the US doesnât have federal regulations regarding this is just plain embarrassing (source).
The system is dysfunctional and things like this are probably costing peoples lives. We need to talk more about it; the first step to improving it is creating awareness that this stuff does exist, itâs just not as effective as it should be. As patients deserve it to be.
Relicensing is already real and a requirement, what we need to do is make it functional and regulated using our votes.
I'm so extremely serious when I say doctors should be put through an extremely extensive reliscensing process every 10 years. Doctors should have their knowledge scrutinized against current medical research and be de-barred at even the tiniest discrepancy. Too many old doctors absolutely refuse to stay up to date on research and dismiss patients because of their personal experiences. Too many people die every year because doctors don't take us seriously and refuse to listen to people who KNOW something is wrong. Too many people are told their problems are nothing and come back in a year or more with serious illnesses and doctors are just like "lol everyone makes mistakes" but doctors mistakes routinely cost people their lives! I'm tired of medical malpractice being swept away under the guise of "mistakes were made."
#once Iâm practicing youâll catch me dead before Iâll recert for less than 50CE hours#thereâs so much new science out there itâs crazy to even consider 20 hours let alone 12 @ Alabama#not fandom#freaky speaks#sorry Iâm passionate af about this stuff lmao#i have to get 20hrs a yr for my cma license can you imagine your doctor having less continuing ed than their fucking assistant lmao#i love it too!! it can be expensive but it's so so worth it and I use those skills all the time!#recently I took an addiction counciling class that I really enjoyed#i work in a high risk community so the skills are beyond useful

Day 29: Bobbie Lea Bennett!
Bobbie Lea Bennet was born in 1947, and called Louisiana home. Her congenital osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, meant that she used a wheelchair from an early age. She was assigned male at birth, but came out, in adulthood, as a transgender woman.
The 1970s offered new medical options for transition, including more widely available gender-affirming surgery. Bobbie Lea found a clinic in Galveston, Texas, and after their required four year waiting period, and checking to be sure that her Social Security and Medicare would cover costs, she finally received the operation - only to be informed that, after complaints had been raised, that Medicare had no intention of providing her the promised refund.
Bobbie Lea began a campaign, to raise awareness about how both trans and disabled people were being treated. She made a heavily publicized, cross country drive to meet with Medicareâs director, where she staged a sit-in until he agreed to talk. Her bills were paid, the policy was changed, and Bobbie Lea had discovered a gift and calling for activism, founding the St. Tammany Organization for the Handicapped, and hosting a popular community television program.
Bobbie Lea and her husband had two children (the surrogate birth of her son briefly making headlines again). She died in 2019.

Ah, I heard that High Table is being replaced and that John is heading off the change, fuck yeah, man. Just to make it easier on people, figured Iâd say a little about myself
My name is Georgia, Georgiana, or Gigi, either of the three works. Some call me âAliceâ in reference to âAlice and Wonderlandâ, some further have called me âJohnâs Aliceâ or âAlice Wickâ, because some have claimed mine and Johnâs relationship has mimicked aspects of Alice and the Mad Hatter. I personally am not sure if thatâs accurate, but to each his own. I currently reside near the Atchafalaya in Louisiana, but was raised in New York and parts of Arkansas and Tennessee.
Winston Scott is my legal caretaker and only remaining blood relative, to my knowledge. I call Charon âMamaâ because he is the closest thing to a mother I can ever remember having. Kinda gave both of them a heart attack, and then John, when I decided to sneak into the Navy in hopes of following John into his service in the Marines. Good news is, got high marksmanship scores and became a corpsman and ended up in Johnâs squad later on. Bad news, am now physically disabled and require a cane and a rolly chair/stool when working the New York Continentalâs bar. Got nerve damage from chemical exposure and got discharged a little after John did.
Vincent and I, well, we havenât tried to murder each other but areâŠI donât quite know what to call our situation. We put up with each other, sometimes enjoyably, but I canât tell if he puts up with me to have someone to gossip about or if he considers me similarly as Chidi, who I am admittedly fond of. He is a BIG dude, though the Chilean has his soft moments. The Parisian and the Chilean DO both give wonderful hugs, do with that what you will.
My current occupations are: mixologist, alcohol brewer and liquor distiller, swamp witch, Hallowed Lodge Owner
//ooc under the cut
Hey, so I made this character because I wanted to make another attempt at a non-Pokemon related sideblog. Part of her backstory is really more a combination of âshe got luckyâ plus good instincts and Winston pulling some strings for her.
Quick rules: no nsfw, but suggestive is fine. Doesnât speak âproper Frenchâ but occasionally throws in some Cajun/Creole French or random Spanish when she genuinely canât think of the insult or descriptor in English. Has definitely referred to Vincent as a âParisian Couyanâ behind his back once or twice.
Sheâs also based on a personal fanfic I created and ended up deleting. I havenât decided her entire vibe with Vincent and Chidi, maybe being the annoying puppy friend that they keep around because her family has connections but any Vincent or Chidi rp on here can decide further about if they actually like Georgia or not, but basically, if youâre a John Wick rp blog, she will likely be very much an âAliceâ-like character. My recent exposure to the story is Tim Burton, but I remember the disney and shortened versions of the story well enough to have some wiggle room.
Description: 5â7â, 210lbs, dark blonde hair with dyed streaks of red and sometimes shaves part of her head and dyes it. Eyes are brown, often does unnatural makeup to look almost fae-like, mildly or otherwise. Oh, and she randomly offers people food

Health Insurance in Louisiana for Individuals
Navigating Health Insurance in Louisiana: A Comprehensive Guide for Individuals
Health insurance is a vital aspect of personal finance and well-being, providing individuals with access to essential medical services while mitigating the financial risks associated with unexpected healthcare expenses. In Louisiana, understanding the intricacies of health insurance options is crucial for individuals seeking adequate coverage. From navigating the state's marketplace to comprehending various plan types and eligibility criteria, this article serves as a comprehensive guide to help Louisiana residents make informed decisions about their healthcare needs.
Understanding Louisiana's Health Insurance Landscape
Louisiana, like many states, offers health insurance coverage through various channels, including employer-sponsored plans, private insurers, and government programs. The state operates a health insurance marketplace, known as the Louisiana Health Insurance Exchange, where individuals and families can shop for and purchase insurance plans.
For those who do not have access to employer-sponsored coverage or government programs such as Medicaid or Medicare, the marketplace serves as a crucial platform for securing health insurance. It offers a range of plans with varying levels of coverage and costs, allowing consumers to compare options and choose the one that best fits their needs and budget.
Types of Health Insurance Plans
When exploring health insurance options in Louisiana, individuals will encounter several types of plans, each with its own set of features and cost structures. These include:
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): HMO plans typically require members to select a primary care physician and obtain referrals for specialist care. While these plans often have lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs, they usually have a more limited network of healthcare providers.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): PPO plans offer more flexibility in choosing healthcare providers, allowing members to see specialists without referrals. However, premiums and out-of-pocket costs may be higher compared to HMOs.
Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO): EPO plans combine elements of both HMOs and PPOs, providing access to a network of preferred providers without requiring referrals. However, coverage is typically limited to in-network providers, and out-of-network care may not be covered except in emergencies.
High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP): HDHPs have lower premiums but higher deductibles compared to traditional plans. They are often paired with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), which allow individuals to save money tax-free for medical expenses.
Catastrophic Health Insurance: These plans are designed for young adults or individuals who cannot afford more comprehensive coverage. They offer minimal coverage for essential health benefits and are primarily intended to protect against major medical expenses.
Eligibility and Enrollment
To enroll in a health insurance plan through the Louisiana Health Insurance Exchange, individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria. This typically includes being a resident of Louisiana and not having access to affordable coverage through an employer or government program.
Open enrollment periods, during which individuals can sign up for or make changes to their health insurance plans, typically occur once a year. However, certain qualifying life events, such as marriage, birth or adoption of a child, or loss of other coverage, may trigger special enrollment periods, allowing individuals to enroll outside of the regular enrollment period.
For those who qualify for Medicaid, the state's Medicaid program provides free or low-cost health coverage to eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women, elderly adults, and people with disabilities. Eligibility criteria for Medicaid in Louisiana are based on income and household size, with expanded coverage available under the Affordable Care Act.
Navigating Costs and Financial Assistance
Understanding the costs associated with health insurance is essential for individuals to make informed decisions about coverage. In addition to monthly premiums, individuals should consider out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance when comparing plans.
Financial assistance may be available to help individuals afford health insurance coverage. Subsidies, in the form of premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, are available to eligible individuals and families with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. These subsidies can significantly lower monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs for those who qualify.
Choosing the Right Plan
Selecting the right health insurance plan requires careful consideration of individual healthcare needs, budget constraints, and preferences. Factors to consider when comparing plans include:
Coverage options and network providers
Premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs
Prescription drug coverage
Additional benefits such as dental and vision care
Quality ratings and customer satisfaction reviews
Individuals should also review plan documents carefully, paying attention to coverage limitations, exclusions, and any restrictions on specific services or treatments. Navigating the complex world of health insurance in Louisiana can be challenging, but with the right information and resources, individuals can make informed decisions about their healthcare coverage. By understanding the state's marketplace, exploring different plan options, and considering eligibility criteria and financial assistance opportunities, Louisiana residents can find the right health insurance plan to meet their needs and protect their well-being. Making proactive choices about health insurance ensures access to essential medical services while safeguarding against the financial burdens of unexpected healthcare expenses.
