Look, I’m not a huge canon-Felix apologist, but it really speaks to me that he would so deeply connect with someone like Louis Wain. You might have seen his works around, actually, he was huge in the beginning of 20th century. The most famous string of art pieces by him, however, is mostly used in a psychiatric context, as it shows the decay of his mind:
There is something emotionally moving in knowing that Felix, a character who is, undoubtedly, the most likely villain of the story, feels so strongly about the journey of this artist.
Side note, but it’s interesting how much the theme of “decaying mind” comes up in TWF. First all those EATEOT references in music samples, “The Shining” soundtrack inspiration, now this. Fascinating.

I wanted to draw more of the BB kids, Bruno and Blondelle. Not so much of the GallantGo Pals, but these two being siblings. Especially since we don't have a lot of boy-girl siblings in PPG, just the sisters.
Plus they're OCs I've had for ages, It'd be fun to flesh them out a bit... Not to mention I need to draw some more actual backgrounds than just use the production art I have stacked in my folders.

June Days: Revolution in France and Onset of the Civil War
In those wintry days of February, the revolution against that defunct king had been successful and France was to be a Republic again. A broad coalitions of classes and ideologues began to construct the trappings for what is now-referred to as the 2nd Republic of France, that short lived experiment. This saw the contradictions of interests of the bourgeoisie and their conservative contingents, the more romantic and liberal petite bourgeoisie, and the more radical and socialists proletariat. Even in this mix, there were the most reactionary of monarchical forces that wished to bring forth a Bourbon return. To summarize, there was no consensus on how the republic ought to be organized.
The Bourgeoisie sought damage control. Their July Monarchy was gone, but that did not mean they could prevent further excesses of radicalism. They sought to limit the social reforms that other factions proposed, to maintain their stronghold on governmental procedures, and finally to prevent further escalations of violence.
The Petite Bourgeoisie sought moderate gains. Seeing their position, wished to simply be a part of the bourgeois order. So, they placed their backing behind an image of a democratic republic, that would have an expanded electorate and moderate social safety nets to prevent them from falling into that dread class.
The Proletariat sought a new order. They were the ensnared and chained working horse of France and it was from their blood, sweat, and tears that the Bourgeoisie had gained power and had increased their power and wealth. So, they sought an end to the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. Their republic, they imagined, would be the egalitarianism sought in the first revolution and later sought by the conspiracy of equal. This would see governmentally ensured necessities such as food and work, alongside the establishment of a broadly democratic society with full suffrage for all men. Many might assume that their demands would be the same as those outlined by their contemporary, Karl Marx, however it is important to remember that his manifesto was published but 2 days before their revolution. Needless to say, the mark of Marx is not unnoticed on the later June Days revolutionaries.
The most insidious faction, the reactionaries and the monarchists, I wish not to spend long on. They represent those most despotic forces, that of the Bourbons and Napoleon. They aligned themselves wholeheartedly with the interest of the Bourgeoisie to ensure their influences does not wain.
It is with these factions and their conflicting visions that the 2nd Republic would be dissolved and civil war would ensue. The Socialists and the Republicans, representing the Proletariat and the Petty Bourgeoisie respectively, began early work push for an equitable society. They pushed for an expansion of suffrage for which a new constituent assembly would be elected. Soon enough, further pushes for guaranteed and honorable employment and even a dissolution of the national guard in favor of more 'decentralized' worker's militia.
However, the Republicans and the Socialists differed in how these economic and social changes would be produced and to what extent, and as the majority of National Assembly seemed to align increasingly with this moderation, this sort alliance of convenience seemed to dissolve. With political disunity, the change that each group sought was only 'fulfilled' only in half-measures. This saw little legitimate economic relief beyond the National workshop. In a similar vain, the shadow of reaction began to rear its ugly head. A cousin of Napoleon Bonaparte, Charles-Louis, had established himself as the favorite among the more conservative and reactionary elements of the Republic. Many feared that he may attempt to replicate his uncle rise to power.
Socialists, aligning with the work and thoughts of Louis Blanc and Louis-Auguste Blanqui, began to plot an end to this farce. As the provisinal 'national workships' and the meager armaments and amenities given to the working class began to falter and as June approached, the time seemed ripe. The Socialist began to build up their conspiracy to overthrow the bourgeois farce of 'the Second Republic'. In secrecy, they continued to build up arms and train what would be referred to as a 'Proletarian Guard'. Through March to May and into June, the Socialists built up power within Paris and at every turn undermined the authority of the National Assembly. Catching wind of this conspiracy, the reactionaries took to action first, expelling several members of the National Assembly accused of falling in line with the conspiracy and announcing plans to dismantle the National workshop system.
This was the turning point. Blanqui and his conspirators seeing their potential Thermidor took to action. Arosing the anger and fear of the Parisian working class and engaging their trained Proletarian Guard, they marched on the National Assembly. Blanqui, taking not to 'be ahead of those damned Thermidorians', launched this attack on the eve of June nineteenth which now marks the Messidorian Revolution. Soon enough, despite attempts by the National Guard to repeal them, they burst in and seized power. Several reactionary elements fled, including that Bonaparte, but many of the more modern republicans were permitted to remain unharmed while the vast majority of conservative electors were arrested for the time being. Thus, as Paris burned with the rage of the Proletariat through the long nights of June and beyond its days, France was plunged once more into Civil War, as the reactionary elements of the military and the political body attempted to reassert their control over France.
The fighting was long, and much longer was the pacification of the countryside, but as the nation emerged from the conflict burnt and scarred, it would be under the Red Banner of the June Days Fighters and the Blanquists that France would enter the modern day, and with the war won, they had much politically, economically, and socially to reconsider
This was but one of the many revolutions, some successful, other faltering, that occured as the reactionary order of Metternich began to collapse.

Art Theory and Criticism - Journal reflection 7
Louis Wain and the artist overshadowed by his own tragic life is the perfect way to describe this artist’s relevance to art history. When talking about an artist and their work, usually, their influences come from past events and experiences which in turn motivate their artistic choices. However, the changes done to the artistic style come from an ongoing mental deterioration process, which is happening in real time simultaneously as he creates his work. This is tragic yet fascinating to analyse as Wain ended up institutionalised for care. It did not always start out with this point in mind though, as Bryll (2020) states:
Although always sketching cats in random, anthropomorphic situations, Wain’s primary ambition was to become a press artist. He specialized in drawing animal and country scenes and was often featured as an illustrator in popular science and news journals.
Figure 1: Cat illustration, (c.1920s) Source: Flickr
His cats started out as way to create his own world made of these cute, whimsical yet slightly unsettling creatures, where they interact between themselves and with the viewer. However, as his condition worsened and time progressed, these cat scenarios slowly shifted to portraits of lone cats made up of anxious lines and patterns. Were once the cat’s portrait clearly shows a smile or happy expression on its face, the face is obscured, hidden, and completely engulfed by these moving repetitive shapes.
Figure 2: Louis Wain, The Naughty Puss, 1898, set of two color lithographs, private collection. Josef Lebovic Gallery.
The abstraction of his later works hint at the decreased mental stamina and ability to focus, which is why when stressed he is drawn further to repetition of shape and focus more on colour schemes. Although these interpretations may come across as definitive and certain that it was caused by mental deterioration, however, it is crucial to note that these changes occurred because of the feelings that the artist wanted to capture at that moment and not solely to portray his experience with these struggles. In fact, Kennedy (2016) states:
The belief that his abstract drawings demonstrate the progressive deterioration of his mental state is quite likely a falsehood – the result of a claim made in a book called Psychotic Art that was published in the 1960s. All art should be considered as an expression of the artist, and Wain’s progression into psychedelia is just one aspect of his creative identity. Whether or not that aspect was triggered by mental illness is a moot point. What we do know is that Wain had a difficult life; and that he spent much of his time making some amazing, some curious and some fascinating illustrations.
Figire 3: Collage depicting Wain’s psyche deterioration according to Walter Maclay’s theory, c.1930, Betlehem Museum of the Mind, Bethlehem Royal Hospital, Kent, UK. Museum’s website.
Which makes us question, should critics mainly observe the artwork in relation to its themes subjected during the time of creation, or what inspired it in relation to the artist’s major life changes and experiences?

How bout... 17, 21, and 5? (for the art asks :])
17} Alot of things inspire me! For artists theres mtsodie on tumblr, my friends despite how cheesy that sounds (like for instance, solitarysketcher/sprite genuinely makes me want to try and draw more body types and figure out how to do unique features.), some classical paintings like Picasso but also mainly "my bisexual wife" and louis wain's series of really cool and colorful cats! Mainly alot of abstract art inspires me, or my friends that (probably unknowingly) make me stride to perfect my style(s). 21} Had to be the worm from splatoon 3's cohawk pocket. He is just a little guy but WOW... 2022 me sure did draw!
Recently though? This worm.. There's a finished one, however it's on my more broken drawing device.
5} Gore. Definitely gore. I just can't find good references for it and I don't want to look at full blown looking at organs (which I am fine with, as I want to work as a mortician in the future, but I don't want to see dead bodies.) falling out of someone.
