Trivia:

○ The obvious starting point for this project was Jusin Beiber's "Beauty and a Beat", which Tony and Layne had performed as part of VoicePlay's "Wow! Vol. 1" medley during the 2015 Sing-Off tour, but one song does not a full plot make. The guys delved into his extended catalogue to find songs that fit certain story beats and would blend well with the animated movie's score.

○ This was an incredibly ambtious undertaking. According to the PattyCake guys, preparations took five months, and filming spanned "six long days" (and nights, clearly).

○ All that hard work paid off, though, since they were able to time their YouTube release for the same day that the Emma Watson movie hit theaters.

○ VoicePlay recorded a Beauty and the Beast medley for "Once Upon an Ever After" (2012), their first album with Tony as a member of the group. Excerpts from that arrangement later appeared in their music videos "Be Our Guest", "Aca Top 10 – Disney Sidekicks", and "Aca Top 10 – Disney Villains". They also included "Belle" in their "Aca Top 10 – Broadway" countdown.

○ "Love Yourself" was the first song in VoicePlay's PartWork series, which they started as preparation for Tony leaving the group.

○ Layne occasionally used "Baby" as his interruption at the end of VoicePlay's "Road Trip" medley / comedy sketch.

○ On top of their usual studio work, this production required multiple location shoots:

The outdoor village scenes were filmed at the Casa Feliz museum.

Beast's castle interior was the Ballroom at Church Street, which closed in 2019, and was demolished 2023.

The tavern was an actual bar, the Tap Room at Dubsdread.

○ Between the main cast and dozens of background folks, they needed so many costumes that Tony enlisted his mom Anita to help wrangle them all.

○ There are several of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni among the main cast:

Michael (Gaston) played Dracula and Frankenstein's monster.

Joey (LaFou) played Wolfman and Dracula.

Brad (Prince Adam) was a dancer in the final "Mashup" iteration of the show.

○ There are also many friends and family among the background cast and crew, including several cast members from previous Unexpected Musicals. Olivia Adkins and Leah Lowman are among the village crowd as Snow White and Cinderella. Rachel Copeland and Matthew Buckner are in the tavern crowd, but not as their previous characters. Many of the other villagers were clubgoers in "Hocus Heathens".

Fit(ted) for a king! Two unicorns support the coat of arms of the king of France in this manuscript of Jacopo d'Angelo's Latin translation of Ptolemy's Cosmographia. This manuscript was originally made in Ghent for Louis de Bruges, lord of La Gruthuyse by the talented scribe Johannes de Krieckenborch. It later came into the possession of King Louis XII, and Jean Perréal modified some portraits and the coat of arms so to make them Louis's.

We need the full lashings against the margarita show

Honestly, I don't have much new to say except that it's actually such a bummer to see a book I love this much be turned into not only a bad adaptation, but a bad show. If it made a lot of changes but was well-written and created, I'd get over it. One example of an adaptation of a book I enjoyed that was a bad adaptation but a good movie is A Simple Favor--it's really not all that much like the book and has a totally different ending, but tbh? The stylistic choices made it better. This can be done. Interview with the Vampire (the show) changed a lot of things about the source material--the time period, Louis and Claudia's race and origins, a lot about Daniel, the explicit sexuality and romance of Louis and Lestat's relationship--but it honestly, for the most part, elevated the story.

But this is like... legitimately a super weak show. I've actually never experienced this before lol. Most of the books I truly love love love don't get turned into shows or movies, and those that have I'm usually pretty happy with. This is new for me!

(Also, wasn't Nicky an Italian prince in the book? This is such a non-issue, but I feel like random Italian royalty~ is way more believable than random Irish royalty. For fuck's sake, a Borghese "prince" was on THE BACHELOR. Beverly d'Angelo was married to an Italian prince. They're not that hard to find. WHERE ARE THESE IRISH PRINCES??)

Special callouts for the latest batch include:

--the "I don't regret that dress", an objectively cool, punchy line that absolutely sums up Daisy's character--a woman who's lived hard and wild and is aware that she's messy and feels bad about some things but also objectively enjoys certain aspects of living hard and perhaps misses them--getting flipped into "I don't regret that day". LOL. WHAT WAS THE REASON. That's what I don't get about so many adaptational choices. There's no fucking reason. No reason at all. It really feels, sometimes, that they want Daisy to be more approachable and everygirl when the point of her appeal is that she isn't approachable and everygirl. You aren't supposed to identify with Daisy; you're supposed to admire her, want to be her, and then realize that there is a catch to being as cool as Daisy. You also have to commit to being as fucked as she is.

--Simone's queer disco queen subplot was legitimately one of the most interesting things the show has given (the song was one of the better ones too, even if the lyrics were... still rough....) but ultimately, she still exists to go save Daisy and that sucks. Honestly surprised the show didn't replace Simone going there with more DaisyBilly fanservice. There's a lot the show sort of skirted around about Simone wanting to be successful as easily as Daisy, a privileged white woman, could be; how much she wanted to be open with her own truly committed lesbian relationship the way Daisy could be about her fly by night straight marriage. But rather than delving deep, we have Daisy literally going "IT'S LIKE YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH ME OR SOMETHING" a la Regina George.

And if Daisy had been sympathetic versus obnoxious up until this moment, if we'd had real investment in that friendship, I think it could've read as a slap in the face. Like "oh wow, this woman who seems cool and chill and impossibly chic is actually a fucking messy drug addict who, like many addicts, says ridiculously gross, fucked up shit in a moment, she is cool and she is chic and she is talented but she has a serious ugly side", which is something I think... Let's give an example. A Star Is Born (2019)! Did well. Yeah, you could make jokes about Jackson Maine pissing his pants, but to ME, the moment that rang as "oh this is ugly, even though he's been so lovely otherwise" is when he, while shitfaced and jealous, calls his wife, who he knows is insecure about her looks, ugly to her face. While she's naked in front of him. That scene, after you watch how loving and tender he is, even while fucked up, reads as a harsh slap. It's very realistic, if you've been around people who are otherwise loving and amazing, who struggle with addiction. They do that shit. It hurts. It doesn't necessarily invalidate who they are when they're in better places; which makes it hurt more.

Daisy has been so fucking obnoxious when she's... Sober? High but reading sober because the show hasn't gone in on how much of an addict Daisy is and their version of "functional heavy drug user" is "basically sober, maybe a little stoned"? That this moment just read as more of Daisy being obnoxious. Plus, a lot of this agency is taken from Daisy's hands, and we're told that Nicky is manipulating her. The thing is that Nicky was a total symptom in the book--he was a symptom of Daisy's addiction issues, her mental health problems, and her damage with Billy. He was not a cause. He may not have encouraged her to get better, he may have sped up some escalation, but honestly? Daisy was already a pretty fucking messy person before marrying him. Daisy was already showing up high and drinking throughout the day. She handled it worse on the tour, but a lot of that was touring and having to be around Billy while being in love with him and rejected by him. The show, imo, has done such a poor job of portraying the extent of Daisy's issues that it feels like they suddenly RAMP UP in these episodes, when in fact Daisy had always been an addict with PROBLEMS PROBLEMS, which is! A huge reason! Why Billy can't be with her. The show boils a lot of that down to Camila v. Daisy, and while Billy's love for Camila (and his kids) was a major roadblock... It's possible that if Billy and Daisy had met while he was married to Camila but without the addiction issue in hand? Maybe things would've been different. I don't know. Maybe. But Billy also literally wanted to be alive and a present father, and he could've done that had he and Camila broken up, but he couldn't have done that had he relapsed.

--I found the "Daisy in the shower with Billy" scene so funny. It was just so... corny. Like, this literally reads as bad fanfic. Camila is shuttled off to the side, barely present and mostly dealing with a guy who she isn't into. Billy is holding Daisy and going "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! NOAH THIS ISN'T YOU". It's so unbelievably corny. Billy in the book would've been wrecked about Daisy almost dying and then sublimated that by keeping his distance and then showing up to be like ".... so was it worth it? Almost dying for a bump" and then they would've either been completely cold or had some massive blowup about a song.

Similarly, the way Billy and Daisy fight on this show is so contrived lmao. A lot of the way they fought in the book was similar to how they expressed their love; the love was conveyed in lyrics and performance. The anger was conveyed into conflict about the music, which the show sorta does but it also has them getting up in each other's face to scream about Nicky, and it seems like they are BEGGING you to believe in the chemistry and I.... don't.

--The downplaying of Camila is very sad, and I find it endlessly hilarious that the show is all "pat us on the back, we champion diversity by having Simone go from The Black Best Friend to The Black Best Friend with a Minor Subplot, also Billy's Latina wife is going to be more complacent and mostly just sad about his cheating and probably die sooner also".

Again I say, as Warren and Camila speak Spanish to each other and Eddie gives us his best Nice Guy... If we were going to give Camila full affair.............. why not have it be Warren......

--Karen just announcing her relationship with Graham, which was a full secret in the book even decades later, in order to prop up Graham's ego.................. truly wild. Lol so much of Karen on the show is about male ego, it's ridiculous.

The problem of Louis at barricade.

Besides the problem of some people still throwing things on stage, this year the barricade aspect feels more extreme and lately this incidents are more often and some fans are not being careful with Louis in the pit.

Paying a ticket, travel to see their artist, camping for hours or days, none of this reasons make any fan have the right to be disrespectful towards the artist and cross their boundaries.

Before I start this text I want to make clear I'm only criticizing the fans who cross that boundary of respect toward Louis I'm not generalizing fans behavior.

[tw flashing in the links] In the EU & Canada tour there was a fan at Cincinnati that was grabbing Louis' throat and sharing it very proud, other fan try to do it in Woodlands. In Phoenix and Vancouver fans grab Louis' head down in the pit. In Philly someone hit Louis' back, there was other in Hollywood Florida when they grab his neck and pull his ear piece, also in Council Bluffs trying to rip his shirt, this were a few events I can mention but this leg in Europe this incidents are also happening.

There was a very scary incident in Hamburg where fans grab Louis into the pit (video 1 & 2) and then when he try to leave fans hold on his tank top and looks like this hurt him. In Vienna someone grab his white tank top and he couldn't leave, in Bucharest happened the same thing with someone grabbing Louis' t-shirt and now in Sofia with fans grabbing Louis' tank top and not letting go when he clearly wanted to leave (even after Louis look at them annoyed the fans that did it were smiling after).

Even if Louis smiled after a few rip tank tops in the US doesn't mean he will always feel that way and always want that reactions from fans, he is allow to change his mind and feel different each time and from recent reactions seems that he doesn't like fans grabbing his clothes.

I don't know if because Louis flips off fans often and is taken as a fun/lovely gesture makes the fans that get an angry Louis flip them off don't get it or they don't read body language and no verbal communication well or they simple don't care what Louis feels, but it's clear when Louis is annoyed or angry in the pit, you see it on his face and behavior.

Whether this moment of certain fans created for attention is because they wanted to be notice by their favorite artist or get a viral video in social media, the things to achieve that can cross the artist boundaries and just in general social rules of how to behave and be respectful towards others. In an article by Rolling Stone they were talking about throwing things on stage but this quote I think can be apply to the barricade problem as well:

"What these incidents have in common is a bizarre lack of respect, a main-character neediness for attention, a child’s ignorance of boundaries. This isn’t fan enthusiasm going overboard—this is hostility disguised as fandom".

In this other article Grace King says "It seems like people disregard concert etiquette to this extent just to gain likes and follow on social media plataform such as TikTok". D'Angelo Wallace a youtuber comment in a video maybe some of this fans prefer to get notice by their artist even if is doing something that can make them mad at them as long as they see them.

Being in a show is a gift, artist want to share a part of their: heart, thoughts, feelings with the music they created. It's just so unfortunate that the artist that is performing in their own show can't feel completely safe because of the behavior of this type of fans.

Just because Louis comes to barricade every show doesn't mean fans can do whatever they want with him and grab him and touch him as they want. Fans need to be careful and respectful with Louis at barricade.

Louis is still a person, he can get hurt, he can feel someone or more than one person cross a boundary of his, just because he wears a tank top or wear any clothes and gets close to fans doesn't mean automatically fans have the right to rip it apart. Louis deserves to be respected in general but specially at his shows.

I hope Louis is okay, I hope he takes the measures he needs to feel safe and comfortable whether that is not going to barricade or going but with more distance, is just sucks that a experience Louis loves so much is getting ruined and make him feel bad. It breaks my heart not seeing Louis enjoying his favorite part of the show going down on barricade because some fans are not gentle with him.

Louis always takes cares of his fans in the shows, from giving free water, to having staff/crew paying attention if fans faint or there are pushing each other. Is up to fans to make Louis feel safe as well.

I don't know how to end this post, I just wanted to share my thoughts, I'm hoping for happier experiences for Louis.

Mikahl Anthony Releases Double Single Space Blue/ Deep Ain't It

The mysterious Mikahl Anthony releases his double-single "Space Blue/Deep Ain't It" on R&S Records. Anthony's vocals have tonal memories of Marvin Gaye, D'Angelo, and Raheem DeVaughn. Nico "Donnie Trumpet" Segal,  known for his membership in Chicago's Savemoney hip-hop collective with Chance The Rapper produced the night moods of "Space Blue." Evil Needle produced the shuffling beat of "Deep Ain't It." The two-sided single is part of Anthony's upcoming MUSE album. The St. Louis, Missouri native is a filmmaker too and some of his self-directed pieces will appear on MUSE which also functions as an acronym meaning 1. Ms. Using Sensual Energy & 2. Making Use of Seclusion. Anthony has hidden his true identity so far he has worked on a project with Via Rosa (of the soulful electro Duo Drama) on The Great Depression EP.  He also was a producer, co-curator, and featured artist on Jean Deaux's EP Outer Body EP. In addition to the two new tunes, a Muzeum playlist embodies Anthony's "socio-political state of mind and sensuality."

Lors de la première intersaison de Brielle en tant que directeur général des Flyers de Philadelphie, des changements ont été apportés immédiatement. Son plus grand geste a été d'envoyer Ivan Provorov en maillot Philadelphia Flyers aux Blue Jackets de Columbus dans le cadre d'un accord impliquant trois équipes des Kings de Los Angeles qui comprenaient les gardiens de but Cal Petersen, Sean Walker et Helge Grans et deux choix de repêchage.
