very specific opinion i have:

I don’t think the Lotus Hotel & Casino should automatically acclimate its inhabitants to the modern time period, because the entire point of the hotel is that it’s trying to keep people there and they will never leave, so the ideal scenario is to prevent them from experiencing the passage of time. The best way to do that would be to keep things changing as little as possible from the guests’ perspectives, and convince them they’ve spent less time there than they thought.

Even though the guests are canonically in a sort of daze, Percy specifically notes that time felt extremely distorted in the hotel, not just in the sense of “we were here for what felt like hours but outside the hotel it was a week,” but in more of a “It only feels like we’ve been here like half an hour, but i guess it might have actually been a couple hours or so- oh, a week has passed outside.”

I like to imagine the hotel is actually pretty labyrinthine when you start getting into it, and the deeper you go the older the sections of the hotel start becoming, so you get these really eerie effects when traveling through it. Especially since the hotel would theoretically shift with the other mythological locations, so if you go back far enough the hotel probably starts getting really weird, because also it’s just kind of infinite inside. People have definitely gotten lost in the depths of the hotel forever, outside of the whole never leaving the hotel thing. The di Angelo siblings might have been slightly extra resistant to the daze effect though and so were able to travel further outside their designated era wing than they normally would and start noticing that there was Something Really Weird Going On. But it still probably would have taken them awhile.

the reason the show had to change the way Percy figures out the timey-wimey-ness of the lotus hotel is because show!Percy is gen z. like in the book, someone says “groovy” and Percy is like wtf something is wrong here. but I work with teenagers now and I promise you nothing throws these kids anymore there’s not one era whose slang would be met by anything other than mild disinterest and a dick joke

One thing that has always bothered me is in The Lighting Thief when the Lotis casino gives Percy, Annabeth, and Grover all debit cards to use for the arcade games (and i think as room keys??) They supposedly each get a card.

Then when they realize what to casino/hotel actually is and they try to get out as fast as they can in a taxi, the driver checks the card’s balance and it literally just shows an infinity symbol.

Those cards EACH have and INFINITE amount of money.

They all saw how much money was on that card, and when they got out of the taxi, THEY TOLD THE DRIVER HE COULD KEEP IT!!!

Now maybe the other two lost their cards before they left the hotel, so that could be why they didn’t have theirs, but why would they just give it to the driver? I mean, Annabeth really didn’t think of how useful that could be?

Sure, maybe it could’ve been used to track them down, but go to a damn ATM!!

Percy could’ve payed off all of Sally’s debts, they could have used to complete this and other quests, they could’ve brought it to camp so future campers had more than the A HUNDRED FREAKING DOLLARS they were given for their quests that usually require traveling across the country for days, THEY COULD HAVE DONE ANYTHING WITH IT!!

I think it maybe said that only Las Vegas drivers would accept casino cards, but i’m sure they could’ve found a way to turn that INFINITE amount of money into cash or something. Even if they didn’t have time for that on their quest they could’ve taken the card with them and converted it later.

Obviously we didn’t get this in the series since it’s Hamilton’s i mean Hermes’ taxi they take.

Yeah kinda hard to notice background stuff when these two nerds didn't fall victim to the hotel as badly because they had each other

Since Nico lost most of his memories in the ‘Lotus Hotel,’ he spent countless nights researching and trying to find his sister’s birthday, so he could bring extra flowers to Bianca’s grave on that day.

Lotus Hotel and Casino tonight! Pls everyone understand that it's almost guaranteed that they haven't cast Nico and Bianca yet. It's way too early, and those actors would age too much to use them again in S3, so be on the lookout for background details, not just people!!! (Also, the trio definitely wouldn't talk to them because that would ruin the reveal in season 3 that they were in the Lotus Hotel)

“I bungee-jumped the lobby five or six times, did the waterslide, snowboarded the artificial ski slope, and played virtual-reality laser tag and FBI sharpshooter. I saw Grover a few times, going from game to game. He really liked the reverse hunter thing—where the deer go out and shoot the rednecks. I saw Annabeth playing trivia games and other brainiac stuff. They had this huge 3-D sim game where you build your own city, and you could actually see the holographic buildings rise on the display board. I didn’t think much of it, but Annabeth loved it.”

They were really robbed of their one fun questing day in the show

Percico thoughts:

Something that probably won't happen in the show, but imagine the Lotus Hotel episode. And 12 year old Percy Jackson bumps into an 11 year old Nico di Angelo. Maybe Nico drops his mythomagic cards and Percy goes to help him pick them up. Percy still polite even if he's under the allure of the Lotus Hotel. They both haven't looked at each other fully yet. Than Percy goes to hand back Nico's cards and the first thing he sees is dark obsidian jewel like eyes. Nico sees the ocean. Deep ocean in Percy's. And for one small eternity two children of two powerful gods connect. Recognize the otherness in each other without realizing it. There's a spark. Than the eternity ends when Nico shakes himself out his trance and starts to blush at Percy. Which 12 year old Percy can't help but find cute.

12 year old Percy: Hi I'm Percy, what's your name?

11 year old Nico blushes: Nico.

Percy smiles: I play Mythomagic too.

Nico has stars in his eyes: Really?!

Luke: "Excuse me my Dad's what?"

Annabeth:" Your Dad's car keys!"

Luke: "Annie why do you have my Dad's car keys?"

Annabeth: "Because we needed a ride to the underworld"

Luke: "So you stole my Dad's, the God of Thieves, car keys. Instead of just a car"

Annabeth: "That and he was being a dick!"

Luke: "Makes sense. Where is Dad's car?"

Annabeth: "I dunno. Might still be in LA"

Luke, entering the Hermes cabin: "Who wants to take a joy ride in Dad's car? We'd have to get it from LA first though!"

Entire Hermes Cabin: "Fuck yeah!"
