"There is definitely a trans narrative in Island of Lost Souls. Lota (and the other animal-men, but she’s actually a main character so I’m focusing on her) is forced to present in a way that feels unnatural to her and follow arbitrary rules made up by an authority figure who only cares about control and his own selfish ideas. She is a panther, but is forced to look and behave like a human woman. This pretty clearly parallels how trans people are socially and legally discouraged from presenting as our true selves, and instead are expected to live as the genders forced upon us by society and conform to ridiculous gender expectations. Also catgirls are inherently transgender"

anyways in the oort cloud there are two main clades of planetnid, the steeldrakes and comets

Comets came first and were made specifically for the Oort Cloud mission of, yknow, developing and perfecting the Atmatan process, but part of the way to do that was being able to melt metal within their bodies, and THAT ability was speciallized upon by the steeldrakes and they were able to mass produce steel at crazy low costs and were the breadwinners of the Oort Cloud.

The comets are highly diverse and have many smaller lines of different designs, though they had an extremely high mortality rate upon being made (until our Comet came around, 100%). The steeldrakes have a very uniform appearance throughout all of their individuals and are actually capable of reproducing (rather than just producing like their Comet counterparts) and don't need to be made, alongside just generally having a higher chance at living since the Oort Cloud can actually focus on keeping them alive.

I mentioned Andromeda, the grim reaper/residence of the Oort Cloud Victims but i also forget that Andromeda's residents are still in the afterlife and can interact with other dead people. And that's what this guy did, which was a really big surprise to the violinist he discovered. One of the few andromeda residents who the term "music" man really applies to, since the guy actually really does have a love for classical music. he doesn't have a name but in my head he's called "the wavy one," for obvious reasons

there is also Lota <3

She's really weird! and pushes the limits on what counts as a "music man" but i love her. her body can produce steel and she used to work as part of the Oort Cloud's steel company. Used to, because when Volupe died (she and The Wavy One are both in his harem), out of grief she went on a rampage and had to be excecuted. As the largest planetnid ("any creation from the Oort Cloud") she nearly destroyed the entire place. a girlboss, through and through

there is also house comet

I couldnt show this before, but he has an extra digigrade leg on his abdomen, inspired by @cupcakeshakesnake's spidery Glados design! even though im usually a stickler when bugs arent accurate and have the buttleg, their design is Cool so obviously it gets a pass Lole
