did a hexafusion of guys I'm normal about
Jet + Heihachi (Senna Gianelli): Quiet, serious, low-key machinist with some level of combat training. Alarmingly okay with the notion of replacing body parts (both her own and others') with machinery, despite her inexperience as a surgeon. Successfully built herself prosthetic/robotic feet after they were removed following a loss in battle.
Zero + Jet (Fuze): Fiercely independent wanderer who always seems to be restlessly looking for the next fight. Crackshot with his weapon and capable of flight but also doesn't consider himself above brawling. An experiment in bio-technic advancements that just wandered off one day, avoids human settlements as much as possible to stave off recapture.
Heihachi + Zero (Saltpetre): A friendly and quiet mechanic, who mostly keeps to himself- disguising the fact that he's shockingly willing to commit violence to achieve his goals. Very "end justifies the means" type outlook to things, but at least generally acts mostly moral.
Jet + Heihachi + Zero (208): An easygoing and confident battle cyborg who always sets his sights on the future to avoid thinking about the past. Has a bit of a messiah complex, but disguises it most of the time by acting almost cartoonishly self-centered and aloof- deep down he feels that his continued existence has to be continually justified by acts of virtue, but that if someone were to find out their feelings of pity would prevent him from being as effective. Highly skilled, but has equally heavy emphasis on the "glass" part of his being a glass cannon.

Jack wondered if he and Alice would’ve gotten along as kids. He wondered about how she was raised and what kind of values and morals her parents had instilled. Surely they would’ve gotten along, right?
Or maybe Jack would’ve been tugging on her pigtails on the playground because he had a big fat crush on her. He wondered if she’d be able to sense that — with her otherworldly sixth sense.
He wondered if she could tell now that he was absolutely interested in her.
"She definitely understands you. Dogs understand everything, even when they ignore us. Maybe especially then."
Jack smiled.
"Selective hearing they call it,” he replied.
He looked outside — Cora was still playing, slowly dragging her toys out of the bin, one by one. He felt a little bad that her sister wasn’t around to join her, and that Jack hadn’t been able to take her on walks as much as he nearly did.
Maybe he could that later. Maybe he could invite Alice.
No. No! They were doing this fucking interview. Jack had promised himself.
Jack had nearly finished his cup of coffee. He debated on another cup, but he didn’t wanna be too wired for the rest of the day. Instead, he savored the last few sips — even if it was disgusting black coffee.
"Most people would assume it meant Gub Gub. Do you consider it a bad sign that you have to clarify with me after only two days of knowing me?"
Jack shrugged.
“Well. You can never be too careful. What if you’d stormed out of here telling everyone that Jack Kennedy, U.S. Senator, said that you had a tiny brain?”
Tumblr media
Jack's face twisted into something that resembled a wince.
“Absolutely not. I think that would be the final nail in the coffin. My career would be over, no question about it."
Jack placed his empty mug back on the counter.
"Hey, I totally forgot to ask. Did you sleep okay last night? I like to keep the house pretty cold, and I forgot to tell you that there's extra blankets in the closet in the hallway."
'So you’ve always been a little rebellious,'
Jack's eyes narrow, nodding to himself as if in confirmation, and Alice has no choice but to narrow hers right back.
"I can confirm I had ... moments."
And he was right. Her other methods of rebellion had came in forms much more severe than just staying up late, but even as a child Alice pulled stunts— went against the grain a bit, even though her upbringing hadn't been bad.
But she grins at Jack, because this is funny. Her smile only thins minutely at his next words— that this was clearly more evidence that she was otherworldly.
A sixth sense, perhaps?
Alice, communing with other creatures beneath the vast New Mexico smile.
She rolls her eyes, but the gesture is more reflexive than anything. Already he had a favorite joke. Already Alice bit back a smile at each one.
'I talk to Cora all the time. I swear she can understand me.'
Another lip twitch from Alice as she watches Jack detach from the counter and straighten. He was tall, wasn't he? It made sense for politicians to be tall.
It made sense for Jack to be tall— made sense, in the sense that Alice simply thinks it suits him.
"She definitely understands you. Dogs understand everything, even when they ignore us."
A beat.
"Maybe especially then."
Alice bets she could catch that before the week is over; overhear Jack talking to Cora as if she were human, perhaps reprimanding her for tracking dirt into the house, asking the dalmatian her plans for the day, even.
The idea of it makes Alice smile around the rim of her coffee. She had six more days. The longest she's ever had for an interview, and yet, in a way, it seems strangely ... short. Six more mornings. Six more days to conduct the interview— not that they've stayed on track, and ot that she's gotten much writing done.
Alice is too busy huffing in outrage to work anyway.
'I bet if you’d talked to Gub Gub, she would’ve understood. Even with a tiny little brain like that.'
'Oh, the tiny brain part was about Gub Gub, not you.'
Another sip of coffee, but this time the action is to hide any glint of amusement in her eyes. She can't let Jack know he's funny.
After all— Jack already knew he was an exception.
"Most people would assume it meant Gub Gub. Do you consider it a bad sign that you have to clarify with me after only two days of knowing me?"

All Jack wanted to do was stand there and absorb every single word that came out of her mouth. Every tidbit of information, every little detail that gave him some insight into who she was, how she was raised, what she liked.
Maybe it was all of the isolation. Maybe he was lonely. Maybe he felt a really strong connection to Alice. Maybe it was all of the above.
The last several months had been hell. There was no socializing in Jack’s life. Once Sophia and Maddy had left, all of the noise from Jack’s home vanished. His place felt emptier. His closet felt bigger. And then someone like Alice came into his life and she was funny and beautiful and easy to talk to.
Could anyone blame him? Probably.
Jack filled in the blanks: a tiny little Alice, same dark hair, same blue eyes, beneath a spaceship blanket while her mother read her The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle. And then her mother, who probably looked very much like Alice, would place the book on the nightstand and quietly escape out of the bedroom door. Not even a minute later, Alice would sprout out of bed with a flashlight she’d conveniently tucked away.
Maybe she shared a room with the sister that she’d mentioned. Did she have more siblings?
“So you’ve always been a little rebellious,” Jack stated. He nodded once, squinted, as if to show that he was making note of that very important information. Jack had done the same, only with a gameboy instead of a book. When she admitted that she’d tried communicating with animals, Jack couldn’t help himself. “And you’ve always had a little bit of a sixth sense. Otherworldly. Clearly.”
Jack smiled.
“I talk to Cora all the time. I swear she can understand me.”
Jack pushed himself off of the kitchen counter. He stood up straight, bringing the coffee to his mouth once more.
“I bet if you’d talked to Gub Gub, she would’ve understood. Even with a tiny little brain like that.”
Jack took a sip.
“Oh, the tiny brain part was about Gub Gub, not you.”
Tumblr media
'Gub Gub, huh?.'
'That’s pretty cute.'
One of Alice's hand tightens around the coffee cup reflexively, the other one slides into her hair, tugging at her ponytail with a motion that is both idle and flustered.
She needs to chastise herself.
Scold herself for finding Jack's smile so nice— particularly when it was aimed at her. She understands all the voters in Connecticut who voted for him, because if she were at a rally, at a debate, and Jack aimed that grin at her?
Well. Maybe she'd commit voter fraud and vote multiple time.
Except this is a little different, because this smile seems more ... personal. Personal in the sense she was getting to know Jack. And it seemed he, in turn, despite being the interviewee, was getting to know her.
Personal in the sense she'd only known him for two days, and it made her face warm when he leaned on the counter towards her.
'Were those your favorite books growing up? I think it would’ve been very fitting if you read them to Gub Gub. You know, once she was all settled in with your sister. I bet she was very thankful that you rescued her.'
"Yeah," Alice grins. "I had the really old hardcover editions. My mom would read them to me before bed, and then when she thought I was asleep I would take a flashlight from underneath my mattress and look at the books again."
Another example of her delinquency for Jack. But so far, none of her thefts, none of the ridiculous names she'd given her animals seemed to put him off.
"That book made me try talking to the animals sometimes..." A beat, and then Alice rushes to clarify before he can make an inevitable joke— she was practically gifting Jack ammunition now. "When I was younger. But maybe I should have tried with Gub Gub."
