no stop it i just rewatched the bit in season 3 where lori dies and oh my days 😭 i hated her the first time i watched it but now i’m sort of attached to her idk she deserved so much better 💔 i feel like obviously her and rick should’ve separated / been allowed to see other people but she’s so overhated?? i really don’t understand why so many people dislike her like yeah sure she’s the slightest bit annoying sometimes but most of the time she’s just a single mum trying to get by.. it’s a bit of a skyler white situation (basically another unreasonably hated wife / mother just because the fans like her husband) they try to pick them both apart so much and i really don’t understand why like come on she doesn’t have to be your favourite but to hate her??? and sometimes it’s the people who like negan (don’t get me wrong he’s one of my favourite characters) but how can you have a hatred for a SLIGHTLY irritating woman but love a guy who’s literally a mass murderer, torturer and sadist. idk if this is coming from misogyny or what but it’s so annoying i am a proud lori grimes defender
-🫐 anon :-)
I am also a proud lori grimes defender. I didn’t hate her the first time watching but I found her irritating. In rewatching I like her a lot more. She did what she had to do. The only time I really disagreed with her is when she got mad at Rick for killing Shane, even though she was sort of the one to suggest it in the first place. Other than that I really loved her <3
(I hated skylar tho lmao but I haven’t rewatched breaking bad so idk I’m sure my opinion would change)

I find It so funny that, now that The Ones Who Live Is airing, the Lori haters are crawling out of their caves, lmao
Like yes, I agree that Rick & Michonne are ultimately the better couple, but jesus, let the very few people who actually like Lori (myself Included) REST
Y'all don't have to be assholes about another really overhated character just because your faves are thriving. (Again, I LOVE Richonne)
Lori Grimes, you will always be famous TO ME

REAL!!! it felt so wrong seeing how everyone treated her when they found out she was pregnant.
Perhpas I'm misunderstanding this entire thing, but Loris pregnancy seems to be treated so cruely by the show in season 2. She has valid reasons of being worried about it, and a valid (though understandably problematic) reason to not tell Rick.
Yet when Rick shouts at her for not telling him, for taking the pills, for taking that choice from him...he's treated as the 'correct' side? Going as far for him to say "you threw them up you want this"...no. no that does not mean she wants this. We as viewers have just seen her have multiple on screen struggles with making the morally correct choice. we see her still struggle to make that choice seconds before swallowing them.
And I get Maggies anger at her- her hiding the pregnancy and the 'carless' sex she had almost endangered not only her but Glenns life. I get Glenn talking to her and giving her advice (but also making sure that she knows he isn't telling her what to do) because he's been forced to keep so many secrets and also risked his life. He comes to her with a respectful, friend type convosation where he urges her to tell but also understand that at the end of the day it is her choice. Beyond the shock and the pain of not knowing, Ricks reaction just screams male rage without listening to her genuine fears. Idk I just...It's so odd. It's a valid thing to get emotional over but the show seemingly agrees with Rick's side and beyond asking the question of 'what if' doesn't agree with her's like it does Ricks.
I'm sorry, but pregnancy isn't an easy thing in our normal world let alone in an apocalypse setting. Rick doesn't get a choice, it's not HIS ass whose being endangerd with 9 months of pregnancy, a childbirth in unsafe and unclean conditions, and then raising that kid. HE can leave- and he (probally?) won't but he COULD. The show treats the dicussion of her pregnancy as though it's set in our normal universe were as she treats it as a pregnancy in an apocalypse. And she is punished by both RIck and Shane for that outlook.

His Favourite Nurse
Rick Grimes x Nurse!Male Reader
You first met when he came into your hospital, shot on the job, and you were assigned to his case
When everything went down, you stayed, though not on purpose, stepping out meant getting killed
The only patient left was Rick Grimes, and considering you were still there, might as well care for him
It was honestly a mirace that he woke up, and he took you along with him on his mission to find his family, even though it didn't seem very likely.
The relationship just happened, except you both tried to push it away.
Rick has a wife and a kid, nothing could happen between you two. Never.
But there was an underlying 'softness' to your friendship, stemming from the way you cared for him, a complete stranger.
As time went by, Lori had passed, and you had just grown closer but still ignored the feelings.
Rick and Lori's marriage hadn't been the greatest even before the outbreak, and it broke down more finding out about Lori and Shane
But you being around also broke down the marriage, not in a bad way though
It was easier to see crack in their marriage when you were around, how much you cared for everyone, you just wanted to help, how you looked after him in the hospital
Oh and how you cared for Carl. It melted him. You helped him during surgery and constantly looked after him, it was sort of shocking you only met him recently.
When you first kissed you practically made him sign a waiver with how often you asked if he was sure about it
There was an underlying nagging feeling of guilt that he constantly reassured you wasn't rational or true
Carl didn't understand at first, only slightly confused about his dad dating both a man and a woman but that was easily explained, what confused him more was how his dad moved on.
He had to explain how they were having problems beforehand, how it was nobody's fault, it's just something that happens sometimes.
Rick loves PDA, his hands have to be touching you somewhere, if he wants a kiss he will happily, shamelessly suggest or ask for one.
Alot of the time you have to make him rest, he gets so focused on leading or protecting he forgets about his own health.
You do have to tell him sometimes that you can do things, he doesn't need to practically lock you up or hide you away.
If anyone needs to convince Rick of anything (like going to Alexandria) they go to you because he'll listen
An arm will be around your waist or shoulder, if his hands are full he'll just make sure you're close
Rick practically wastes away if he doesn't get kisses every day, its like his life support
Everytime he gets aggressive like with the claimers, he's worried he'll scare you away, but he just falls in love even more when you praise him for defending everyone while patching him up
You're also just as protective, but in a more subtle way, Rick makes sure they know he's defending you, but you have more 'self control' and will snap, especially if Carl is threatened
It's made a joke that you're the most dangerous because you know the human body and where will kill.

Tomorrow's promise
Paring: Daryl Dixon x reader, Rick Grimes × sister reader
Warning: Swearing
Chapter: 3.02
Hearing a racket coming from somewhere in the prison, you lift your gun and aim it towards the doors leading to your cell block. When the noise gets closer, you look at Beth and say, “Take Jace and Carl with you into one of the cells, and don’t come out unless you know it’s safe.”
“Open the door! It’s Hershel!”
Hearing Rick’s voice, you immediately open the gate. Glenn, Maggie, and Stick Wheel Hershel, who’s lying on his back, passed out on a metal table. It’s not until you hear Beth screaming for her daddy that you realize Hershel’s leg is gone.
You and Carol help transfer him onto one of the beds. “What happened?”
“He was bit.”
“Carl, go get the towels from the back, right next to my bed,” Lori says, before turning to Beth, who is still holding your son. “Beth, sweetheart, go wait with Jace in the next cell.”
With everyone crowded around the bed, it was tight and chaotic. You look outside the cell and notice Daryl standing outside the cell block and reloading his crossbow. You take the keys from the gate and throw them onto the floor behind you, so only your people can reach them, and you shut the gate so you’re on the outside with Daryl.
Without saying a word, you stand beside him and point your gun in the same direction.
Out of the darkness of the hallway, five men dressed in prison jumpsuits walk in. The one at the front had a particular devilish look about him; he reminds you of what serial killers looked like on crime shows you used to watch.
Daryl aims his weapon at the man’s head, saying, “That’s far enough.”
“Cell block C,” the man says. “Cell four—that's mine, Gringo. Let me in.”
“Today’s your lucky day, fellas. You’ve been pardoned by the State of Georgia. You’re free to go.”
Three out of the five men look afraid as the tension rises. Hopefully, other survivors living in the prison meant there was food and water. Background voices become more obvious as you hear Carol instruct the others on how best to care for Hershel.
“What have you got going on in there?”
“It ain’t none of your concern,” Daryl says.
“Don’t be telling me what’s my concern.” When Jace starts to cry, the man takes a step forward. “You got a baby back there?”
You click the safety off your gun and say, “Take one more step, and I’ll blow your head off.”
He holds up his hands and whistles, “And you must be the baby mama.”
Daryl takes a step closer to him and says, “Back the fuck off now.”
“And who are you? The baby's father?” The man pushes loose strands of his greasy dark hair back and grins at you. “She doesn’t need defending; you see that crazed look in her eyes?”
You make a tsk sound with your tongue. Stupid man. You keep your aim firmly on the man and say, “I think it’s time you leave.”
“Hey, we ain’t leaving.”
T-dog appears beside you, his gun aimed at the same man, who appeared to be the leader of the small group of survivors. “You ain’t coming in either.”
“Hey, this is my house; these are my rules. I'll go where I damn well please.”
Hearing Jace’s cries become louder, you start to feel distressed, but under no circumstances are you going to lower your gun. Daryl senses your unease, and with one hand firmly on his weapon, he uses the knuckles on his free hand to knock on one of the tables. Alerting Rick and the others that something was wrong.
Rick comes running around the corner, his jaw clenching as he takes in the scene. He leans into your ear and says, “I need you back on the other side in case Hershel doesn’t make it.”
“Got it.”
You keep your gun up as you slowly walk backwards until you reach the gate, and Carl opens it. You step inside, your eyes falling on Jace, who is wailing in Glenn’s arms. You take your baby from your friend's arms and gently grab Carl’s arm. “Stay away from the gate; I don’t care what you hear, but you’d open it, okay?”
He looks up at you, confused. “What’s going on?”
You usher him into the bunk you’re sleeping in. You were afraid gunshots would go off at any moment, and you wanted the children out of the way of any stray bullets.
—
“How’s he holding up?"
Hershel’s breath was wheezy, and the sheets below him were soaked with blood. Carol looks up at you and says, “We managed to stop the bleeding, and he has no fever.”
“That’s a good sign.”
“But his pulse is way down, and his breathing is labored.” With blood-covered hands, Lori wipes her nose with her arm. “Where’s Carl?”
“In my cell with Jace, I thought it was best they stayed in there for now until we know the other survivors aren’t coming back.”
She nods and says, “Thank you.”
Hearing footsteps, you step back outside the bunk and see T-dog and Rick carrying boxes. Glenn opens the gate and lets them in. “What’s in the boxes?”
“Canned beef, canned corn, canned cans. There’s a lot more where this came from,” T-dog says.
“Where’s Daryl?”
“Keeping an eye on our new housemates,” Rick says before having a private conversation with Lori.
You feel sick with fear knowing that Daryl is outnumbered. He was good at self-defense, but enough to take on five men? You silently prayed that he didn’t need to find out.
You walk back up to your bunk and watch as Jace sleeps peacefully, his chubby cheeks pressed against Carl's arm. In a short space of time, Jace looks more like Shane; he has his father's dark brown eyes and thick dark brown hair. You lean your head against the bars and keep watch as he sleeps.
—
“Hey, munchkin,” you wave Carl over to you. It was your turn to keep watch over Hershel, who was now handcuffed to the bed as a precaution.
He pouts, “You going to yell at me too?”
During the madness of everything going on, Carl managed to slip in and out of the cell and into the infirmary without anybody noticing. He brought all the medical equipment he could find back with him, but when Lori told him off for going alone, he stormed off. You felt bad for your nephew; he was just a confused boy who didn’t understand why he was still being treated like a kid but was expected to act like an adult.
“No,” you say, kissing him on the cheek. “But please don’t do that again; I need you here.”
“Yeah, right,” he sulks.
“I need you to help me keep Jace safe… Oh shit!” Panic starts to take over when Hershel stops breathing. “Lori! Maggie!”
You struggle to remember any CPR training as your mind scrambles. Glenn and Carol had gone outside for some unknown reason, leaving you at a disadvantage.
“Do something!” Beth yells from the doorway. “Do something, please!”
You take a deep breath, pinch his nose, and breathe into his mouth. Lori rushes into the bunk and says, “Carl, go wait with your cousin.”
Lori begins compressions on his chest. You continue doing this until Hershel suddenly lunges forward, and Lori pulls you back. It’s not until he lets out a snoring sound that you know he’s alive.
—
You pinch the bridge of your nose, trying not to sigh in frustration. Overall, it had been a good day; Hershel was still alive, there was enough food to last for a couple of months, and your group was unharmed by the inmates in the prison, but yet your mood has dropped significantly due to your tiredness. Every time you dozed off, Jace would wake up, or you’d see Shane in your dreams. You groan, feeling wetness seeping through your top and onto your skin. You only had a few tops, and all of them smelled horrendously with months worth of blood, sweat, and spit up covering them. Frustrated, you pull your top off, pour water from your water bottle onto it, and start scrubbing at it with a cloth, trying your best to be quiet since everyone else was sleeping.
Sighing, you watch Jace roll onto his stomach and crawl towards you. With a smile, you stroke his cheek and say, “you’re such a smart boy.”
You freeze when you hear a creak of a footstep behind you. Turning to look towards the doorway, your eyes lock on Daryl, who was standing there watching you, clutching something black in his hand.
When you twist your body further around, he looks at the ground, and you suddenly remember that it’s just your bra covering your top half. When heat flushes your face, you quickly grab a pillow and use it to cover your breasts. In a hushed tone, you ask, “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Did I wake you?”
“I couldn’t sleep. I came down earlier and saw the little man throwing up on you, so I thought you might need this.”
He hands you one of his tops. “Are you sure? It will probably smell extremely gross without the hour.”
He smiles and says, “Yeah, it’s fine.”
“Thanks.”
You face the wall again and put the top on. On closer inspection, you realize you’d seen Daryl wear this before; it was a dark navy blue button-up top with long sleeves. It was oversized on you but comfortable, and it was far cleaner than anything in your bag.
Daryl leans against the doorframe. “Mind if I hang a little bit?”
“Yeah, that would be nice.”

Till THE DEAD do us part | Chapter 3
A/N: This story will take place in all the seasons, but it’s not exactly a rewriting cause I’d have to re-watch everything to use the exactly lines of the characters, also I think it’s better if I tell a side story without changing the main facts of the story.
This story has a Female Reader, but I don’t describe her appearance, so anyone can identify with her.
Chapter 2 Chapter 4
Chapter 3: I’m sorry and Thank you
Summary: It’s time to bury their dead, take decisions and say goodbyes. The tension is thin in the camp and not everyone can control their emotions or how they deal with it. Hard decisions are made and a shot is take in hopes that everyone have a future. Y/N and Daryl have their first little fight in this one.
Warnings: swearing, death, violence, little angsty, fluffy, little mention of suicide that if you blink you’re gonna lose it, maybe some characters are ooc, idk 🤷🏼♀️
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Grimes!Reader (Rick’s sister)
Word count: 4,179
Extra notes: I proofread the text, but English is not my first language, so feel free to correct any mistakes, of course with love.
Everybody started to work early, cleaning, reorganizing and getting rid of all the bodies. You needed to burry Amy, but Andrea would not let no one take care of her. You could imagine the pain she was feeling because you felt that too when you lost Rick. Amy was so young, she was sweet and gentle, she didn’t deserve it. No one deserved it.
You tried helping with whatever you could, unfortunately you were not strong enough to help carrying the body of the dead. So you were trying to make sure everyone had water to drink or something to eat, even if it’s just a little.
You were at good distance with Carl and Lori, helping them to put things in order, when you saw Rick holding a gun on Daryl’s head. Fuck. You walked the faster you could and put yourself between them. “What the hell is going on here?”
“Y/N, get out of the way.” Rick said, seeing you were not going to leave he lowered his gun. “He was going to kill Jim.”
“He was bitten! He’s a danger to everyone!” Daryl argumented, you turned around and looked at him.
“Jim is our friend, one of us… we can’t just kill him. We take care of him, he’ll eventually die and… when the time comes we… we do it.” You said, a little unsure of your own words, but that was what was the human thing to do.
“Never thought you were this dumb.” He almost spitted the words at you.
‘And I never thought you were an asshole.’ That’s what you wanted to say, but you didn’t, you just rolled your eyes at him and left. Things were under control, no one pointing guns at each other, your mission was done. That was a stupid fight and a stupid insult, but you couldn’t ignore the sting you felt at those words.
It didn’t take long for Amy to turn and Andrea have to kill her, it was heartbreaking to watch. When everything was over you had tears in the corners of your eyes. Also, you heard Carol had to kill Ed, you didn’t watch it, but you knew what it meant. Even if he was a human being, he was a monster… and now Carol and Sophia were free.
After that you buried your dead, while the zombies had already been put in fire. You said your goodbyes to Amy and hoped she was happy wherever she was. Everybody were going back to camp descending the hill, you passed through Daryl and gave him a look, that you didn’t know if it was sad, angry or upset.
“Ya defend not killing the living, but if ya could, ya would kill me right now.” Ok, so your look was the second option, angry. You just continued walking and ignored him. “ ‘m sorry.”
“Oh, I bet you are.” Sarcasm covered your words. “Maybe I’m dumb, but not SO dumb”
“I didn’t mean it. I was just angry.” He said walking by your side. “I was wrong, can we be good again? I hate how ya’re looking at me.” And he did, he could get those eyes from everyone and not give a fuck about it, but for some reason, a reason that he didn’t know, or didn’t want to admit, he couldn’t get that look from you.
You stopped and turned to him, you saw worry in him and that was not usual of him, not about the little you knew about him.
“Don’t do it again. Don’t call me that thing. It sounds silly, but…” ‘it brings back bad memories’, you were going to say, but didn’t have the courage.
“I’m never calling you that again. ‘m gonna think about other insults next time.” He tried a joke, and you tried to remain serious, but he could see the corners of your mouth curving a little while you battled against the smile. You hated that people would make you angry, but as soon as they wanted forgiveness, you would laugh or smile, instead of giving them the cold shoulder like normal people would do. Some said you had a good heart, but sometimes you thought you were a fool.
“Ok, Dixon. We’re friends again.” You said offering him your hand. He looked at your hand and thought for a moment. “Come on, shake my hand to seal it. I don’t have the whole day, if you don’t take it right now I’m going to…”
And he took it. He took your right hand in his and you were not expecting to feel this way to a simple handshake. His grip was firm, but comfortable. His hand calloused and warm, engulfed your hand that was so little compared to his. You felt comfort, protection and another feeling that you couldn’t describe, but made you lose your words.
“Ya’re going to what?” He still had a hold in your hand, maybe because you were holding his back and thinking about never letting go of his.
“Don’t matter. It’s done. We sealed our friendship, so I don’t need to threaten you anymore.” Reluctantly you let go of each others hands and continued to descend the hill.
“Oh, was that a threat? You don’t look threatening to me.” He mocked you.
“You better keep your eyes open D.” You answered liking the way his initial felt on your tongue and how it was said so easily. “I may look harmless, but I can be dangerous too.”
“Of course, as dangerous as a Puppy”
“Remember that puppies can bite and scratch.” You said lightly elbowing him.
“My clothes magically appeared clean and folded in my tent. It was you, wasn’t it?” He knew it was you, he just needed a way to talk about it and thank you.
“It was the least I could do…”
“Thank you.”
“It’s no problem D.”
Later that day, after a lot of discussion, was decided that everybody that want would go to CDC early in the morning. You were not sure if there would be anything there when you arrived, but you also knew you couldn’t just stay in the quarry forever, more walkers would come. You couldn’t risk losing more people. You slept in your tent with Luna to keep you company, at 3 in the morning you woke up and couldn’t sleep. You really tried, you were tired, but you were not able to sleep again. You turned around back and fort on your tent, until the sun started to rise.
So you changed your clothes, put everything you had on your bag and left the tent to start disassemble it. The thing was, you didn’t even know how to assemble it, Shane had done everything for you, so now you were having a hard time.
“Do ya wanna some help?” You heard Daryl’s voice by your side and you almost jumped out of your skin. “Sorry, didn’t wanna scare ya.”
“Please, I have no idea what I’m doing.” You confessed shamelessly. In fact he didn’t even waited for your answer to start helping you.
“I realized that from distance, anyone could see ya struggling from miles away.” He joked, but it was not completely a lie, your struggle was very clear.
“Well, Lucky me, you offered help.”
After everything was ready to go, you started to say goodbyes, Morales and his family decided not to follow with you. A stupid decision in your opinion, but there wasn’t anything you could do about.
“Y/N, Carol and Sophia are coming with us. Do you mind going with Shane?” Rick came to you right before living.
“Actually, I’m going with Daryl. I figured it’d be better for Carol and Sophia to go with you.” You answered taking both Rick and Daryl by surprise.
“Are ya?” Daryl didn’t have time to think before the words left his mouth, and then you gave him the look that told him to play along with you. “I offered ya early, but ya never gave me an answer. I thought ya weren’t going with me.”
“Of course I am! Daryl Dixon giving me a ride? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” You grabbed your bag to put it in Daryl’s truck, Rick gave you a knowing look. He knew you were avoiding Shane, he just didn’t know why, but he knew you too well to not notice. Also, he saw how Daryl was surprised. “Luna, are you coming with us or do you prefer going with Carl?”
“Nah, she’s coming with us. My offer is only open if she comes with us.” Daryl stated, and you couldn’t resist but laugh.
As soon as you hit the road, Luna was all over the place. She wanted to go for the window and feel the air with her tongue out like any normal dog. She sat on your lap, forgetting she isn’t a lap dog, and you needed to hold her just in case, because she tried a few times going to Daryl’s side and you were not dying by a stupid car accident in the middle of the apocalypse.
“So…why didn’t ya want to go with Shane?” Daryl threw the question at you after Luna had calmed down.
“Cause Luna wanted to go with you.” You gave the excuse shamelessly. He snorted to your lame excuse.
“Bullshit! Spill the real reason, that’s the least I get for playing along with ya.” He took a small glance at you and returned his attention to the road.
“Okay… never took you for one that likes gossip but…” he gave you an annoyed look as if to say ‘just say it’. “I had a fight with him, when you guys went to Atlanta. In front of the whole camp actually.”
“The bruise, in his face, was that ya?” He asked, looking at you for a brief moment, and you nodded in response. “I knew it. Couldn’t be a walker, it looked like something ya would do.”
“How did it look like something I’d do?” Did he take you for the type to go punching people around? Maybe he thought you were kind of a badass? No, not possible.
“The bruise is just the height you’d be able to punch, no way you could hit him on the eye.” Well, none of the options you guessed, he just stated you were short, which you really kind of was. But you couldn’t let it pass like this and gave him a light punch on his arm. “Easy Puppy, I’d rather die fighting zombies than in a car.”
“You just called me short!” you stated as a justification of why you lightly punched his arm.
“And didn’t lied.” He smirked and then put his right hand on Luna’s head for a brief moment. “Why did ya punch him?”
“He lied. He told us Rick was dead.” You answered and Daryl said nothing, probably thinking about what you said. “I mean, any idiot can see if a person is breathing and if the heart is beating.”
“Well, it’s Shane. He’s a different kind of idiot.” What was he probably trying to say? “Maybe, he didn’t knew the difference at the time. I’m not trying to defend him, I don’t like him, you know.”
“I know… it’s just… I’m angry.” You said. Funny, because Daryl had told you the same thing to you, but of course your fight was very silly compared to the reasons behind your quarrel with Shane. “Do you think I should talk to him?”
“Is it going to make ya feel better? If yes, do it.” He didn’t even had to think to say that and he didn’t like Shane at all. That was one of those moments where you saw how good he was, and you wish people would see through his rough demeanor. “Take a picture, it lasts longer.” You didn’t realize you were staring at him for a long time.
“Sorry, I was thinking about what you said.” That was not a complete lie, but not even half of the truth. “But I don’t need a picture if I can look at you everyday.”
You wanted to talk more, but you were tired, your half slept night was charging it’s price. You didn’t know when you slept, but after 2 hours you woke up the car was slowing down until stopping. Luna was laying in your lap awkwardly, half her body was on the car seat and her head was on Daryl’s lap.
“Morning Sleepyhead!” Daryl took a small glance at you.
“Hey… sorry, I didn’t want to sleep, but I was tired.” You ran your hands on Luna’s back. “Why are we stopping?”
“Don’t know, guess it’s a problem with the RV.” He took Luna’s head from his lap and talked to her as to a child, you didn’t even paid attention to what he was saying you just thought that was adorable.
You broke the moment putting a harness on Luna, so you could leave the car. As soon as you left the car your eyes found Shane and you decided to take the opportunity to talk to him.
“D., can you look after Luna for a little while?” You asked him, giving your best puppy eyes, without even noticing.
“Alright Pup, go and do what you need to do.” He said grumply taking the harness. “Go, before I regret it”
“Okay, thanks.” You gave a little smile and left in Shane’s direction.
When Shane saw you walking in his direction, he thought there would come trouble, because any moment you two talked, you would fight. He regretted all the fights, but it was as if he couldn’t control himself, in this world… he couldn’t be soft, gentle or unprepared. He couldn’t also let anything bad happen to the one’s he cared, even if he had to make some sacrifices along the way, and that was what scared him the most. He felt like he was losing his humanity and he didn’t see any other option.
“Shane, can we talk?” You finally approached him, expectations very high and afraid of the outcome.
“I don’t want to fight Y/N…” well, you didn’t want this too, but it didn’t depend only on you.
“Me neither. I just wanna my nice big bro Shane back, you know…” You said, eyes on the mark you had left on his left cheek. “I’m sorry, for the punch.”
“I probably deserved, a cop that can’t tell the difference between the dead and the living…”
“You were probably nervous, I can only imagine the chaos the hospital was and… and you said they were shooting everyone in there, you were probably also afraid.” You said and took his hand in yours. “I’m sorry, I was angry and shouldn’t have reacted like that.”
“I’m sorry, I have been an asshole lately.” He admited.
“Lately?” You mocked him. “Let’s be good again, I don’t punch you anymore and you don’t piss me off. You know, just like you and Rick, I grew up and I don’t need you to protect me from everything. You should be the cool big bro that encourage me to do reckless things that Rick wouldn’t want me to do.”
“Just like… hanging out with Daryl Dixon?” He suggested and he knew he was entering a delicate topic because you already fought before about it.
“Yeah, he’s a good person and my friend. You should encourage me to make other friends, the world went to shit and the people is all we got.” You chewed the inside of your cheeks hoping you would not start fighting again.
“You know, I only act like this, because I don’t want you in the same situation you had with Paul.” He confessed, and in part it was true, you were never the same after Paul, after all the psychological abuse. It took months for you to go back to your normal self, and a german shepherd puppy to make you smile and live again. But on the other hand, it was also his prejudice against the Dixon Brothers.
“I already told you, it’s not like this.”
“I see the way you look at him. It’s the same way you used to look at Jack Jones.” He stated, and you remembered your first crush at school. You never had the courage to tell him what you felt.
“I surely don’t, I’m no teenager and… hey maybe I could have avoided all this situation with Paul if I had told Jack how I felt…” You tried to deny, but you knew that maybe he was right… maybe you had a crush on Daryl. “Just let me live, please Shane? If I die tomorrow, I want to know I lived to the fullest. I don’t expect to find love or anything in a world like this, but I want to be with people I enjoy being with and protect the people I love.”
“Don’t say no sense. You’re not going to die, I’m not letting you die.” He stated. “It’s ok, you can be friends or more than friends with whoever you want, but let me know if anyone hurt you…”
“Thank you Shane.” You hugged him tightly. “And please… let go of Lori, you’ll only hurt you and her. I say it, because we’re family and I love you.”
You left his embrace and you saw the hurt and sadness in his face, maybe a little anger too, but you hope he would not blame you for this and listen to your advice.
“Go to your boyfriend before he comes here and kill me.” Shane played after he saw the way Daryl was looking at the both of you.
“Shut up Shane!” You gave him a punch on his arm before you left.
“By the way, I’m proud of your punchs, you really learned how to beat someone properly.” He kind of yelled at you, and you just laughed. Well they really taught you how to beat someone and how to make it as painful as possible.
After that Shane left with T.Dog to try finding replacement parts for the RV. You go to Daryl and take Luna from him, you could not ask for him to do more than he already did. “Thank you.” You told him.
“ ‘s nothing. It’s always good to pass some time with Luna.” He replied taking a cigarette and lightening it. His curiosity taking the better of him. “Are ya feeling better?”
“Yes, I guess. Things went well. Thank you for the advice.”
Jim was getting worse over the time, you thought he would not make it to the CDC and in truth, you knew nobody survived from a bite, you never saw one single person survive it. Rick was new to all this shit, so he had hope, but you knew Jim would not make it and that nobody could in fact help him.
The RV was fixed, but now you got another problem, Jim was bad and he had decided to stay behind. Rick tried to convince him otherwise, but he had made his choice and you should all respect. It was sad leaving him behind, but you couldn’t stop any more time, you needed to keep going. You entered Daryl’s truck, a heavy silence following the both of you. He started the car, his forehead frowned and the eyes on the road. You could feel he regretted his actions towards Jim.
“You were not completely wrong.” You finally said taking him by surprise. “You just had the wrong approach.”
Silence. Not the comfortable one.
“The most compassionate thing to do in a world like this, would be to not let the people we like turn into one of those…”
“Why?” He asked, eyes on the road, not even giving a glance at you. Your were took by surprise and didn’t know what he meant. “Why are you telling me this?”
“Because this whole situation made me think and… I know you have your own thoughts about it too. We can’t be so radical, but we should think about doing something to not let each other turn.” You wanted to look at him, you wanted to hold his hand, but you couldn’t, you knew you had crossed lines when you told him those things. You didn’t even know if he considered you a friend that could discuss this kind of things and tell when someone is wrong or right.
“Yeah, ya know a lot of shit.” The bitter comment left his mouth seconds after what you said.
“Daryl, if I ever get bit, I want you to end it for me.” You didn’t know what made you say it, but you just ignored his comment and threw this bomb on him. He almost hit the brakes the moment the words left your mouth.
“What the fuck?!” He cursed. “Don’t ask me something like that. Yar not getting bitten.”
“You don’t know.” Seeing Jim like this made you think. You didn’t want to die alone, you didn’t want to turn, you didn’t had the courage to do it yourself and you didn’t want Rick, Shane, Lori or ,in the worst scenario, Carl to do this. “Promise me”
“I ain’t promising you shit!” He didn’t understand why he got so angry at what you said and asked, it should be something normal to ask each other in a damn Zombie apocalypse. But the thought of you getting bitten… it bothered him in more ways that he could admit. “Stop talking no sense. We’re not losing anyone else to those fuckers.”
“I’m sorry.” Apologizing were becoming and habit that you didn’t want to keep, but how could you stop when you were afraid you hurt people.
“Ya don’t need to be.” He answered than he looked at you for some seconds before landing his eyes on the road again.
You decided against opening your mouth again, you pet Luna’s back and stared out of the window. When you were not looking Daryl stared at you for a little longer than what he should while driving. He over reacted, he knew it. He could not be good with his feelings and also short tempered, but he knew when he let it took the best of him. He had already lost Merle, he knew he was alive, but he was alone. Again. That wasn’t the first time Merle let him alone, and he didn’t know how it affected and made Daryl feel. In a world so big like this, maybe they’d never see each other again and he would never know. At the moment, you were the only friend he had. Could he call you a friend? And even though, there was other people that were polite to him, you were the only one that would talk more than 2 words to him. Not that he made a big effort to have a conversation to others, but you seemed to not care his short answers. The thought of you being bitten and he being left alone again, felt as if a giant rock was put on his chest. He didn’t like all this thoughts, but he couldn’t just stop them. His right hand went to Luna’s head that once again was on his lap, and he could not help but grow fond of the dog.
It was almost night when you arrived at the CDC. The place was a cemitery, there were bodies everywhere and some walkers too. You all got our of the cars and went to the entrance of CDC. All was closed, with heavy strong metal doors. You knocked, called, pleaded but there was no answer. Some started to not believe anymore on the possibility of the CDC having someone in there, but you couldn’t stop believing. You were already there, it was getting dark and it was not safe being outside. When you had lost hope, Rick saw the camera moving and you continued asking for help until the big metal door opened and you could see the big iluminated hall inside the building. You filled your lungs with hope and could breath relieved that you would have a place to stay.

I love you, please don’t push me away
Daryl Dixon • She/Her Pronouns • “Can I see it…” “since when did you start to care about me again?” “I’ve lost too much. I ain’t gonna lose yea now” • ANGST/SFW • TW: Canon Violence [Mentioned] / Injuries / Messy Confessions / Anxiety Attacks / Nightmares / PTSD
Requested by: Anon
Nothing tears these two apart, well. Except that time with the Governor but every fiber of their being magnetized toward the other.
Y/N and Daryl, inseparable. But never an item even if there is a running bet between Rick and Carol over how long it’ll take.
The run down?
Daryl never saw himself relate with any of the other members in the quarry. Except for this other lone wolf type that would wander out of bounds to hunt, like him. And ignore Shane’s stupid rule, like him and Merle. And also have a short fuse just like him.
He stumbled across this person during his own hunt finding the woman bashing in the skull of a walker. She turned around when she noticed she was stumbled upon by a living being, her body relaxed when realizing who it was. Which was a new feeling to Daryl.
“Shane sent yea out or what”
“Nah fuck that pig. Was tracking a deer”
“You mean that deer” The woman pointed to the hanging animal from the tree as Daryl gave the whole scene a concerned look. “Camping tips can help in the end of the world”
“Bear tactics”
“Exactly. Tie up your shit so bears don’t get it. But hell you’ve got sickos. Might as well apply those tactics to these fucks” She kicked the dead creature while pulling out her knife. “I’m uh. Y/N. By the way…you ain’t very talkative in the camp”
“Neither are yea.” He scoffs. “‘M Daryl”
“Welp. Now you’ve got a friend.” Y/N untied the deer letting it hit the ground by Daryl’s feet. “And if we’re gonna be friends. You can carry that for me, to avoid the Walker guts getting on everybody’s dinner”
“What do I get for doing this?”
“Mmm…I’m pretty good at making arrows” Y/N shrugs watching the pondering look grow on Daryl’s face before he knelt down and picked up the deer heading back to the camp while she happily follows behind.
That first moment brought an instant connection that Daryl didn’t realize. Until he got shitty news.
“You left my brother? On a fucking roof?” Daryl snaps and right before the archer got close to hitting the stranger, Y/N stepped between the two along with Shane’s help. Not that she needed it.
“Who do you think you are to make that decision?”
“Rick Grimes, deputy—-“
“Nah. I ain’t dealing with another pig thinking he can boss everybody around” Y/N cuts him off as she stood her ground even if it didn’t entirely involve her. “How would you feel if you were left behind? Left for dead” She knew her words struck a few in the crowd, specifically Shane and Lori.
“I was left behind” Rick suddenly got up in Y/N’s face not liking her attitude but right as he did, Daryl didn’t hesitate to loom from behind her making him back up.
“And how the fuck did that make you feel?”
That brought a lot of her character out to Daryl and everyone else. She was defensive and it was clear, when she gets close to someone…she has to protect them in some way.
When the invasion happened on the camp, Daryl never been more driven by his anxiety and his fear until he thought he’d lose the closest person he’s liked in the longest time. He took out a walker coming up behind Y/N when she wasn’t paying attention. The thankful look in her eyes spoke enough even if after taking care of the walkers, Daryl subtly scanned her person as he helped the others pile up the dead.
The plan to head to the CDC was a gamble, but the ride there brought more out of the two. Given Y/N loaded up in Daryl’s truck not wanting to be stuck in the RV.
“Why’d yea defend me back when we found out they left Merle?”
“Honest?”
“Mhm”
“He’s your family, whether he annoys you or not…you’d still want him in your life” Y/N leaned her head against the window fiddling with the ends of her sleeves. “And hell. I’m done letting others walk all over people. Just cuz they haven’t been in their shoes before”
Daryl felt himself grip the steering wheel wanting to ask a question but given the lighthearted feel going on between the two, he didn’t want to taint it full of uncomfortable tension.
“Who did yea lose”
“My baby brother” Y/N frowns reaching into her backpack taking out a journal that held a Polaroid of the two on a camping trip with their parents. “I…I don’t think he’s dead but, haven’t found him since outbreak day and Glenn took me back to that camp even when every fiber of my being didn’t want to stop looking”
“Do yea entirely trust these people?”
“I trust you. But that’s cuz you’re not keeping bullshit. Yea state yer mind if you have to. Hopefully the new world doesn’t beat that out of yea”
The CDC was a weird experience. A time to feel like they were in the old world once more. Just under a different roof and drowning out reality with alcohol.
Daryl was the last to shower even if it took him some time to get there given the man had drank a bit too much. But as he entered the room he was sharing with the other single in their group, which obviously was Y/N. She lifted her head to the sound of stumbling and saw the exhaustion rise in his expression as he stumbles onto the couch she sat on. She tossed her book on her bag giving Daryl an opportunity to use her lap as a pillow turning toward her and laying there in silence for a moment. Closing his eyes and doing the best he could to fall asleep even when a part of him fought to stay awake to spend this time with Y/N. Y/N on the other hand, pulled the blanket from her shoulders and covered the man laying on her…resting a hand on his side feeling him shift to get comfortable mumbling a bit to himself.
“Don’t ever wanna lose yea…”
Those words struck a bit to Y/N and even if he didn’t remember saying that last night, she knew by the way he covered her when Rick tossed the grenade to escape the CDC…
That he meant it.
Their bond was growing to others in a beautiful way but to the pair it was weird…confusing…and a bit beautiful in its own way. But it brought certain anxiety that the other never wanted to feel in a world like this.
The farm became a temporary safe haven, and the word temporary was definitely engraved in few’s minds because of how Hershel felt toward them. At first it was to save Carl’s life and thankfully he did…next was to fix what Andrea did.
“Oh my god. Is he alive—-“
“Step the fuck back” Y/N snaps at the poor girl who kept her distance from the situation. And Y/N. The bitch scared her.
“At least we have some idea of where Sophia can be. Now we can retrace Daryl’s steps”
“Nah, I’m comin’ with yea”
“You won’t be doing much activity at least for a few days.” Hershel reminds him of his injuries only for the archer to grow annoyed but his frustration grew slightly when he noticed Y/N glaring at him.
Once he was left alone after Carol gave him his dinner and a thanks for never giving up on her daughter, Y/N came in about an hour later with clothes for him and before she even made it to the door…Daryl grabbed her wrist.
“What’s up yours? Yea been quiet since I came back or well until after yea scared the shit out of Andrea. Yeah fucking Rick told me what happened the—-“ Daryl stopped speaking when he saw the tears in her eyes making him let go and her freeze like a deer in headlights.
“You shouldn’t have gone out by yourself”
“Y/N, I did what I had to. Others given up”
“Don’t. Go. By. Yourself.” Y/N hissed wiping away the tears that started to burn. “Yea ain’t alone anymore. Ain’t needing to do this shit by yourself and get yourself killed. Yea may think nobody would care if you were gone but somebody does. So watch it.” She frowns leaving on that note.
Daryl didn’t know that she felt that way toward him and there were plenty of other moments like that. For either of them.
The reunion on the freeway after the farm went up in flames. Daryl got Carol out of there on his bike, feeling his anxiety get the best of him when he didn’t find Y/N until she came running through the woods and he didn’t hesitate for a second to run at her. Bringing the tired girl into his embrace thankful she didn’t die in the flames or in the mouths of the undead.
The time the group raided Woodbury to save their own and Daryl was shoved out of the way of a bullet that embedded into Y/N’s shoulder. Thank god Hershel got it out. When he came back after leaving the first time with his brother, he couldn’t get that mental image of the disappointment written all over her face. But that was all forgiven, given she would’ve left too if it was her problematic brother.
Once the fight of Woodbury was done and people were flooding into the prison, making itself its own community…Daryl felt a sense of jealousy when watching others outside of their original group talk to Y/N who seem to be expanding their social circle. He was brewing and it was obvious to Carol.
“You’re gonna blow a fuse”
“What?” Daryl brought his attention back to reality and noticed Carol joining him beside him. “Shit.”
“What? Got spotted? We all know how much you like’er. Why didn’t yea do anything sooner?”
“It’s the end of the world.”
“Okay. Stating the obvious. So?” Carol elbows him to be told more as Daryl kept his eyes on Y/N watching her turn to him shooting him a smile.
“If I act on my feelings, and worry about another…on that level, I’ll lose her”
Carol knew Daryl felt a bit at fault for Sophia dying, including his own brother. But Y/N is a strong person. Hell she’s the one that saved them back at the outbreak in the quarry, she knows that girl can hold her ground…and she knows, how much he means to her.
“You won’t lose her…Don’t push her away”
Those words rang through his head as he found himself smoking outside the prison walls and Y/N joining him after her shift in the watchtower. The silence grew between the two even if they spent most of their time together in comfortable silence. But this was different and Y/N knew this.
“Did I do somethin’?”
“Nah” Daryl tosses the cigarette on the floor putting it out with his foot. “This ain’t worth it”
“What’s not?” She furrowed her brows confused at first as Daryl got up from his spot. “Daryl—“
“This!” He gestures to the two of them with a growing frown on his face. “It ain’t fucking worth worrying about. I can’t live like this for the rest of my life. Stressin’ over what might happen” and it clicked to Y/N as her eyes met his only for him to turn away. “Don’t. I can’t.”
“Daryl but—-“
“No. We can’t”
Another word was said because Daryl went back inside leaving Y/N outside to think about what the hell just happened. But more importantly…just…break.
The two haven’t really talked since then. Or hung around the other. The only time they would interact is when Rick asked them to go on a run, or for the council meetings for their small community. Daryl expanded and got close with other people while Y/N found herself back in the same mindset at the quarry before she extended herself to Daryl.
In the end you’re on your own.
But that never lasted because of the connection she had with him and with the others. The sickness, her angry feelings were pushed aside so that she could work with him on getting the medicine. Then when it got to their people, Y/N distanced herself from Daryl once more. This time his regret settled in in its entirety and wasn’t expressed until after the attack.
“Aren’t you and Y/N supposed to be close?”
“Why’re you bringing that up…”
“Getting to know you I guess” Beth frowns sitting across from the archer fiddling with some thread around his wrist.
“She was my best friend, that I love…and pushed away”
Beth watched as the pain when saying such brought its expression in his frown and the tears that he tried desperately not to fall.

“And I don’t think I’ll ever get him back” Y/N frowns sitting with Michonne in front of the fire she made for them.
“Daryl’s strong. He’ll come back to you. Even if…you two aren’t anything but friends. You two just. Gravitate toward each other naturally”
Y/N shot Michonne a smile when she said such, but during her watch while the swordsman slept, she couldn’t help the tears that fell off her face.
Michonne was right about the two gravitating toward each other. They always found the other in whatever situation they were in. Even if the most recent was the incident with the claimers, then the other with the general hospital, and finally reaching Alexandria.
And Y/N needed a minute.
“Y/N. Deanna only agreed to yea going out if it’s—-“
“I’m just sticking close. Won’t even need a goddamn car. I just. I need a minute. And I can’t get that in another confined area” Y/N frowns already geared up to head out of Alexandria. “I’ll be back before it’s too late in the day, and if I’m not. Then you can come and get me…”
Rick gave the girl a worried look, but agreed to let her go. He didn’t trust it there either and was surprised by how others are settling in.
When the sherif headed back to his group’s houses, he found Daryl standing outside of the one Carol took up with Y/N. He looked anxious from what he got first spotting the archer.
“Hey”
Daryl quickly turned toward his brother seeing the confused look. “What”
“What are you waitin’ for?”
“Courage. Fuck if I know”
“Courage for what?” Rick brought himself closer as Daryl stepped away from the door to sit on the steps.
“To talk to Y/N again. Repair what I fucking tore apart back at the prison…Before Beth and I got separated, she told me not to let a good thing go. And Carol snapped at me one of the first nights here about the same thing”
“Well. I hate to break it to yea. But she ain’t home” Rick watches the archer shot up from his spot with a you serious? look on his face. “Yeah. She needed some air. Stepped out of Alexandria”
“And yea think she’s gonna come back? After all the shit I fuckin’ said”
“You said back at the prison. Some part of her wouldn’t leave from something that happened some time ago. And there will always be a part of her, connected to yea at all times.” Rick put his hands on his hips. “She doesn’t like it here just like you. So she needed a breather.”
“If she doesn’t come back before night fall—-“
“We’ll go get’er. Alright?” He reassures the man before going back on his patrol.
She made it before nightfall.
Emphasize on the “made it” part.
“Where the hell have you been? You were supposed to help in the infirmary” Spencer, one of Deanna’s sons, got up in Y/N’s face when she first stepped back in. More so caring about the fact that she wasn’t at her job compared to the amount of blood on her. “What the fuck did you do?”
Few residence, more so her group coming close to listen to someone they didn’t know go off on one of their own.
“Why did you ignore Dean—-“
“Your mother’s.”
“Fine. My mother’s orders. You had a job to do and instead you went out doing who knows what outside the walls. Don’t you like it here? Don’t you like being safe here for once? Clearly yea—-“
“Step away from her now.” Michonne cuts in once she noticed the fists Y/N formed and the shaking her body was undergoing. Some of us are still adjusting. You need to understand that and if you don’t, talk to your mother or I’ll let her hurt you” she states watching him stand his ground one last time.
“Turn in the weapons you took out, then I’ll—“ Spencer stops to the sound of Y/N’s bag dropping to the ground and watching her unclip the magazine of her gun and unloaded the one in the chamber before handing it to Michonne and walking past.
Y/N avoided everyone’s looks and focused on getting back to Carol’s. Even if every fiber of her being wanted to collapse in the middle of Alexandria and let the darkness settle in. But none of them knew what was happening. She just continued on her way.
“Where the hell have you been?” Carol asks when she heard the door open ignoring the rest of what Daryl was saying. Granted it was about the girl that entered.
“Needed air. Got too much of it” Y/N chokes up a bit gripping onto the stairs’ railing with one hand as the other went straight for her side taking her hand off to see the blood soaking through. “I’m gonna shower. Too much Walker blood…but uh. Is the first aid kit in the bathroom?”
Carol pulled herself away from the kitchen counter heading toward Y/N who had her back turned to her on the steps. While Daryl slide off the bar stool bringing himself within earshot.
“What happened?”
“I just cut my hand…”
“You’re covered in blood. Is it—-“
“It’s not mine. Just walkers I got stuck dealing with”
“Are you bit?”
“I wouldn’t have come back if I was” She felt a lot of the pain return to her body in that moment as she continued on the way to the bathroom leaving both confused.
You’ve always been a disappointment Y/N.
Hell. Look at me. Finally proving to this world that I’m worth something
Y/N couldn’t stand and found herself sitting in the shower letting the water wash off the dried blood but also the running. She held onto the edge of the tub feeling everything as she tried her best not to stream in pain.
Her body flinched to the sound of knocking and that resulted in the pain induced tears to finally shed.
“What.”
“Got you clothes” Daryl states from the other side of the door with clothes in hand but he couldn’t help his eyes from wandering around the room to see the blood soaked clothes and the hand print on the door. “Y/N. What happened?”
“Please…go away, Daryl”
“Nah…not this time” Daryl pressed his forehead against the door. “I ain’t leaving and I know you’re hurt…”
“I-I…” Y/N sobbed gripping harder onto the ceramic trying not to focus on the pain in her side.
“Can I see it…” He felt his heart clench hearing her wince from the other side of the door followed by choked off sobs.
“since when did you start to care about me again?”
Daryl sighs tossing the clothes on the dresser by the door and resting his hands on it. “I’ve lost too much. I ain’t gonna lose yea now” he frowns not hearing any sound come out from the other side. “Y/N?”
Something’s wrong…
There’s always been something wrong and he knew there was more to it. She just wanted to take care of it without anyone realizing. But of course she couldn’t get past the person who holds her heart.
The door was suddenly kicked open and Y/N had no strength to react except for bringing her eyes to follow his movements. Daryl gently took a hold of her face seeing the damage there along with what was happening to the rest of her body. He quickly turns off the water and as his lips moved, she didn’t register a single thing. All she did was close her eyes.
“You…were always their favorite” The youngest L/N shook in his sister’s embrace feeling the end draw near as Y/N couldn’t help the tears that spilled. “I never…got to show’em up…”
“I should have never stopped looking…I shouldn’t have left home…left you”
“Mm…” He coughs a bit as the blood splattered on Y/N’s face. “It don’t matter anymore…T-This is what I d-deserve…”
“No…no you didn’t. I should’ve found you…you would’ve loved the people I’m with…this is my fault” Y/N sobbed holding her brother tighter as he gave her one last smile.
“Yea survived…just keep doing so”
As the breath faded from his lungs and more of his group surrounded the house they were held up in. Y/N had to pull it together long enough to take care of the rest, even on her last legs. Because she would’ve found a way to bring her brother in, but as for the others?
No one is following her back to her family.
A soft groan escapes her lips, alerting the archer sitting beside her bed. He brought his chair closer carefully taking her hand into his thinking she would reject it, but instead she gave it a firm squeeze indicating some of her strength is back and that she didn’t want him to go.
“Yea lost a lot of blood…and I got mad at the surgeon here”
“Mm. Typical Daryl behavior” Y/N sighs gently grazing her thumb against his knuckles. “Last I remember…was being in the shower”
“You were in the bath as the shower ran. I don’t know how Imma explain the blood bath, literally, to Carol. But she did help me get yea here” Daryl frowns seeing the exhaustion in her expression but more focused on the black eye and bruised cheek on her left side when she turned to him. “Carried yea out in a blanket. Got bitchy when he lingered too close”
“Please tell me I got dressed after…that someone helped me. And the strange man that stared at me when we first met didn’t see my goods long”
“Imma kill him next time he does, but nah. Maggie came in with clothes”
“Everybody knows?”
“Doesn’t know why. But yeah…I…I did come running out, Y/N. Yelling for somebody. Felt…lost.” He frowns, straightening up when Y/N started to sit up. The grimace growing on her face made Daryl feel as if an ice pick went straight for his heart.
Y/N watches as Daryl got up from his seat he went to grab another blanket when he felt her grip tighten and a wince escape her lips from him pulling.
“Sorry—-I’m sorry. Fuck. I just—-“
“I can do without another…please just sit with me” She begged and she had the same look on her face like she did at the time of their fight in the prison. Something he’ll never forget. “I don’t…I can’t stand another second without you. Even if it’s just a few feet away…”
Instead of sitting in the chair, Daryl brought himself to sit on the edge of the bed holding her hand seeing the bruises on her knuckles. He kept finding more of what happened…and it upset him not knowing.
“Daryl…”
“Yeah?”
“Just ask”
Daryl didn’t want to. He didn’t want to know the pain she endured and how it happened. But he wanted to know who he had to fuck up.
“I got ambushed…by raiders in masks. I took out like…four of them…got the shiner and knocked down by the fifth…only to shoot him right in the ribs and as he dropped..” She squeezed her eyes shut biting the inside of her cheek trying to stop the tears. “I found out…it was my brother…” the tears fell stating such as Daryl soften squeezing her hand with the one she held while the other carefully wiped them away. “Then when he died…I couldn’t risk the others following…and took them out…even if it almost killed me”
“I’m sorry…”
“It’s…well, it’s not fine. But that’s keeping me going. Just saying it is…that he’s not in this hell of a world anymore…”
“never looked at it like that…when Merle died. Took the blame and ran with it”
“You carry too much of the blame for things…when a good chunk of it was never your fault” Y/N frowns tugging him forward enough for her to lean comfortably forward pressing her forehead against his. “This is one of’em. You blame yourself. I break your knee caps. This wasn’t your fault…”
“I should’ve never hurt yea back at the prison…I missed you. I miss you and you’re right here”
“Daryl…” Y/N brought her soft, tiny hands to hold the archer’s face feeling him relax in her touch. “I love you…so please, don’t push me away”
The tears that fell between the two was found in comfortable silence. Only a comfort the two share with each other. Daryl moved her hands so that he could gently bring her into his embrace holding her.
“I won’t…I promise”

I'm into the walking dead rabbit hole yet again.
And something you need to know about me as a twd fan? I'm a Lori Grimes apologist. My girl did nothing wrong. I was defending her back in the day and I still am.
If Lori Grimes doesn't have anyone defending her, that means I'm dead.

one rule | chapter eight
[rick grimes x original fem character slowburn]
series masterlist! prev. chapter • next chapter
summary: in a rush to deescalate what they presumed was merle's fury on camp, daphne and the crew arrive to something terrifyingly different.
notes: my apologies for the overall slow pacing of the story. i promise it's gonna get exciting after we wrap up the first season. and also sorry for the rushing at the end there's not much i can change about the CDC without fucking up the whole storyline after so i'm just trying to get through it fast.
Screams echoed from the rock quarry and every step we took felt like two steps back.
Maybe it was our desperation to get there but it felt like the journey only got longer and longer. I gripped my knife tightly, pistol locked and loaded in my right hand. I led the group through the darkness, my speed being the fastest, but Rick was right on my heels.
"SHANE!" I yelled as soon as we made it over the big hill where we would've parked the truck. Had Merle not stolen it.
What I saw was the opposite of what I thought it was gonna be.
Instead of Merle taking vengeance on the camp, it was a herd of walkers. Biting into members of the group, tearing chunks of flesh clean off the bone as they screamed. Gunshots were flying from every angle.
I spotted Dale with his rifle firing rounds. I rushed over, dodging walkers as they reached out at any living thing.
"Dale! Where's Shane?!" I hollered, shooting off rounds of my own.
The camp was a complete mess, guts and blood all over our sacred place.
"He was with Lori and Carl last I saw 'em," he said over the blasts of his rifle. "By his tent."
I rushed out a 'thank you' before fighting my way to his side of camp, glancing around to make sure Glenn was okay. He stayed by Dale, shooting at every walker in radius.
A pair of hands suddenly grabbed onto my sleeves, roughly shaking me as a growl reached my ears. The smell of death penetrated my nostrils. Swinging my left hand back, my knife went straight into the walker's forehead. I looked back to make sure and then kicked the body away.
I marched forward, a gasp of relief leaving me as I finally spotted Shane. He had Lori and Carl behind him as he shot down countless walkers, a scowl etched on his face.
The scowl eased away as soon as his eyes found mine. His lips parted in shock. "DAPHNE!" He hollered, jerking his head.
I followed suit, sprinting over fallen walkers until I got to them.
"Morales!" Shane was yelling. "Work up here!"
"Get behind me! Come on!" Lori yelled at me, reaching her hand out so I could grip onto it. She hauled me over one of the dead walkers, bringing me next to her and Carl.
I immediately began shooting, wondering how the hell it had gone south so quick. We had the rest of the guns back in camp; there was enough weapons to defend the group against this attack. What the hell happened?
I had no time to think about it. All I could see in front of me were the walkers, stumbling with teeth bared, ready to bite into any one of us.
My arms began to ache the more I shot bullets but I couldn't let up. Beside me, Shane had his back against mine, covering all bases.
"Make your way to the winnebago!" Shane commanded. Carol came breaking through the dead, her daughter clutched against her side. Then Rick and the rest suddenly broke through to our side of camp, where the last of the walkers were attacking.
"CARL!" Rick hollered. "LORI!"
"DAD!" Carl broke free from his mother's grip, sprinting straight into Rick's arms, sobbing in terror.
I set my sights on the last walker standing, sending two bullets. One into its chest, the other into its head. I watched as two more bullets entered its forehead and looked beside me to see Shane lowering his own rifle.
As soon as everything died down, my arms dropped. And my legs suddenly felt weak. I stumbled despite my best efforts, my temples pounding. "Hey," Shane rushed over, grabbing my waist firmly. I tried to look at him but the world was spinning too fast.
"Goddamn concussion," I mumbled as I held back the urge to vomit. It seemed like the hours-long jog and the fight hit me like a truck.
"She got knocked in the temple earlier!" Glenn came running over, his face twisted in concern. I gave him a look, not willing to open my mouth in case I threw up everywhere.
Thankfully, he understood, grabbing my arms and pulling me away from Shane. Instantly, the bout of weakness took over and the world turned into pitch black darkness.
When I woke up, it had evidently been more than a few hours. It was daytime, the sun beating down on us harder than it had in a while.
I was covered in a thin layer of sweat, shielded by the security of mine and Glenn's tent. It was surprisingly spared from last night's attack. I pushed my body up as everything came rushing back to me, ready to run out of the tent.
"Hey—"
My hand found the knife that was still strapped to my side, swinging on impulse. I was frightened, traumatized from what I'd seen last night.
"Hey, you're okay!"
The voice registered in my head at once and I dropped the weapon like I'd gotten burnt. "I'm sorry," I gasped, trying to calm my racing heart.
"It's okay, Daph. It's okay." A hand grabbed my shoulder, giving me a gentle shake as our breathing filled the tent. I closed my eyes, willing myself to calm down and listening to all the outside noises.
Nothing but soft murmurs and birds chirping.
I cleared my throat. "How many did we lose?"
Silence was my only response and I dared to open my eyes, meeting Shane's downcast gaze.
"It's hard to tell."
"You're lying," I said instantly. Shane would be the first to know. We were both assumed leaders of our group.
"Ten or so... Amy..."
My head turned in shock. "Andrea?"
Shane shook his head. "Unresponsive."
I figured. There was no one in this entire world she cared about more than her little sister. We sat in silence, remembering Amy and all the others that fell last night. Except Ed.
I spared Shane a glance in my peripheral, trying to see if he was looking too affected. One look at his face and I was reminded of what had transpired yesterday morning.
I clenched my jaw in irritation, wondering whether I should confront him about his shifty behaviors. It was probably the worst time for this but I needed to know why he was still pursuing me so intensely if he had a thing going with Lori this whole time.
I refused to be anyone's side piece.
"We don't burn them!" I suddenly heard someone yell. Glenn. I scrambled to my feet and stepped over Shane, concussion be damned.
Outside there was a complete and utter mess. Walkers and our people scattered in dried pools of blood, random clumps of guts on the ground. My stomach twisted uncomfortably but I marched on, determined to figure out what had made Glenn uncharacteristically lash out.
"You reap what you sow!" Daryl called back at Glenn, helping Morales drag one of our dead to a separate pile they'd created for them.
"You know what?" Morales snapped. "Shut up, man."
"Y'all left my brother for dead! You had this coming!" Daryl spat, storming away.
I walked over to Glenn and he seemed disappointed to see me up and about. "I told Shane to make sure you got enough rest."
"I did. Now I want to help."
Glenn rolled his eyes at Daryl's back. "Pretty sure Daryl and Morales got it covered for now. You shouldn't be doing heavy lifting."
"A walker got him," said Jacqui loudly. We all turned to find her backing away from Jim, who was sweating profusely. His shirt was saturated with blood. "A walker bit him!"
"I'm okay," Jim insisted weakly as he backed away from the forming circle. We caged him in, each wondering what the hell we were gonna do now. Of course Shane, Glenn and I had talked about this type of situation before. But this was Jim. A survivor like us.
"Show it to us," demanded Daryl, approaching dangerously with an axe.
Jim startled, grabbing the nearest weapon in defense.
Shane came marching from my tent. "Easy, Jim."
"Grab him!"
"Put it down, Jim!"
"Grab him!"
We all began to yell over each other, one side trying to diffuse the situation, the other (Daryl) demanding to grab him. T-Dog took initiative, seizing Jim's arms from the back so Daryl could pull up his shirt.
"Jesus," I said under my breath. The teeth marks were as clear as day, a clean bite near the middle of his abdomen.
"I'm okay, I'm okay," repeated Jim nervously. He was clearly in denial and I felt horrible for him. There was no way around this-- he'd die a gruesome death and become a walker if we didn't put him down.
"I say we put a pickaxe in his head and the dead girl's and be done with it," said Daryl as we stood around in an impromptu meeting. We'd directed Jim to sit away from the uninfected.
"Is that what you'd want if it were you?" Shane asked.
"Yeah, and I'd thank you while you did it," Daryl sneered.
Dale shook his head. "I hate to say it-- I never thought I would-- but maybe Daryl's right."
I looked at him in surprise. Dale was the last person I would expect to agree with Dixon. Still, I stayed silent, trying to gather everyone's opinions before putting in my own.
"Jim's not a monster, Dale, or some rabid dog." Rick said.
"I'm not suggesting--"
"He's sick. A sick man. We start down that road, where do we draw the line?"
"The line's pretty clear. Zero tolerance for walkers, or them to be."
I hate to admit it, but Daryl's got a point. I could see where Rick was coming from, but it was pretty damn clear to me that this world wasn't gonna get any better. It would only get worse from here and eventually, we'd have to get our hands dirty.
"I will admit, it feels inhumane to kill Jim but we aren't going to be able to keep him alive. That's a fact. Point, blank, period," I cut everyone off. "It simply isn't in our power. He's gonna die no matter what at the end of the day and keeping him around will guarantee that any number of us will too."
Daryl motioned to me gratefully, looking like he thought I was the only one with common sense.
"Well, what if we can get him help?" Rick turned to me first, focusing his full attention on me. I suddenly felt the heavy weight of leadership within seconds. Everyone looked to me and Rick.
"What?"
What the hell kind of help were we going to be able to get him?
"I heard the CDC was working on a cure."
"I heard that too. Heard a lot of things before the world went to hell," interjected Shane.
"What if the CDC is still up and running?" Rick ignored Shane.
"Unlikely--" "Man, that is a stretch right there." Shane and I spoke at the same time. I gave him a side-eye, wondering how he had the nerve to even speak to Rick right now.
Rick seemed to have the same thoughts as me, giving Shane a hard glare before pointedly speaking to me again. "Why? If there's any government left, any structure at all, they'd protect the CDC at all costs, wouldn't they? I think it's our best shot. Shelter, protection, food."
I waited for him to finish. Shane seemed to be on the verge of exploding next to me so I held a subtle hand up in his direction.
"If there was any government at all, don't you think we would've heard or seen something?" I wanted to be optimistic but it had been too long without a sign.
"You know there's a chance, Daphne," Rick bent lower to meet my eyes full-on. "I know you do. And if there's a possibility that we can stop this from happening again, don't you think we should try?"
I hated the way he was looking at me, as if he knew the exact way to get me to agree. Half of it was the words he was saying, the other half was the way the sun was hitting his pale blue eyes just right.
My lips parted as I struggled to find an argument.
On another hand, I did owe it to everyone I'd welcomed to camp to try. I left yesterday and this happened. It wasn't entirely my fault- I couldn't stop a herd of walkers by myself if I tried- and Shane had stayed behind but like it or not, the both of us started this thing together. We set up camp, we found other survivors, we invited them in.
In a way, this was on me.
I looked between Rick and Shane, who were both staring at me expectingly. Rick with that naive hope in his eyes; Shane with utter and complete disapproval, waiting for me to take his side.
I was trapped. I spluttered slightly, trying to figure out who to fucking choose—
Shane's face dropped in disappointment and disbelief, turning to his former partner instead. "Okay, Rick, you want those things, all right? We do, too, okay? Now if they exist, they're at the army base, Fort Benning."
"That's a hundred miles in the opposite direction," noted Lori.
"That is right, but it's away from the hot zone. If that place is operational, it'll be heavily armed. We'll be safe there."
"We'd still have the same problem," I hissed quietly so Jim wouldn't hear. "Jim would still be sick and I know for a fact Fort Benning doesn't have the same medical capabilities as the CDC."
"You're agreeing with him?" Shane asked incredulously. He obviously didn't give a damn about airing out our drama in front of the whole group.
"Look, what you're saying makes perfect sense, Shane." I quickly tried to diffuse, grabbing onto his forearm without thinking it through. "But so does Rick. The CDC is the only chance this world has at beating this thing. What's happening to Jim and all these people, it's a disease. We'd be running in the opposite direction away from that."
"The military were on the front lines of this thing. They got overrun. We've all seen that," Rick argued with a glare finally directed at Shane. His eyes traveled between his former partner, my hand on his forearm, and me. I realized with a jolt that I was still hanging onto him and let go as if I'd been burnt. Rick's look alone reminded me of all the goddamn lies Shane fed me.
"The military's first response was to try to kill us. Was it not?" I added, glancing at Lori so I could avoid Shane's stare. I know she remembered the day I saved them well, how the army pointed their guns at her and her son. "What do you think they're gonna do when we try to roll up there with an infected person?"
"The CDC is our best choice and Jim's only chance." Rick finished as soon as I did and gave me a grateful nod. I don't even know how we ended up teaming against Shane but I could tell he felt ganged up on.
"You go grab that aspirin you brought," Daryl said to me suddenly. "Do what you need to do. Someone needs to have some balls to take care of this damn problem!" He hollered as he turned around and rushed toward Jim with the pickaxe aiming for his head.
"HEY!" I grabbed the shovel Jim had dropped and sprinted to stop Daryl. Rick pointed a gun at his head and clicked the safety off. Immediately, Daryl froze, weapon raised in the air. Jim heaved in terror, staring up at him like an animal prepped for slaughter.
"We don't kill the living." Rick said firmly. Shane wedged himself in front of Jim as Daryl slowly lowered the pickaxe and turned to eye Rick distastefully.
"That's funny coming from a man who just put a gun to my head."
"We may disagree on some things, not on this. You put it down. Go on," insisted Shane. I could see Rick breathing heavily from my spot next to him, gun still pointed. Daryl threw the pickaxe down and stormed away.
Rick grabbed Jim and began to lead him away from camp so I followed. Shane lingered behind, keeping a suspicious eye on Andrea who was still hovering over Amy's corpse.
I watched as Rick sat Jim down far away. He joined me after, standing by the cars.
We stared at each other in silence.
I was the first one to break it. "You okay?"
His lip curled in frustration, glaring at the sun. He rested his hands on his hips and looked at the ground.
I wanted to ask if he had confronted Lori, but it truly wasn't any of my business. And the answer was pretty obvious.
"Thanks ...for backing me up," Rick changed the subject.
"You're right. The CDC is our best option. If they're not operational, then at least we'll know."
"Yeah, while putting the rest of the group in danger."
What kind of hypocritical back and forth was this?
"We owe it to everyone to try. Especially Jim. Look, Shane's plan would've probably gotten us all killed. You didn't get to see it but when this whole thing started, the military pointed their guns at us first. The living. If the base is operational, there's no way we would've made it past the front gates alive." When did I start defending this plan? "Besides, if it all goes sideways, we'll have our getaway car and more than enough weapons to protect the kids."
Rick gave me a sideways smile, looking a lot less tense. "You're right. He just got me overthinking."
"Well, it's always good to run your ideas by others."
Rick stared at me for a long moment and I started to feel like a bug under a magnifying glass. "What?"
"Nothin', this just suits you."
I snorted. "What does? Putting Shane in his place?"
"Being a leader." He clarified.
"Yeah? Well, I didn't choose to be," I sighed, looking back at the state of our group. Half dead and the other half mingling about, no doubt discussing our two options.
Rick smiled tightly and clasped a hand over my shoulder as he walked past me, heading straight over to Carl. His little face lit up as he noticed his father, cheeks chewing on the multivitamin gummy Carol had handed out to each of the children.
I swallowed thickly. Whether the group agreed or not, we had no other option but the CDC or wandering from one place to the next. Fort Benning just couldn't happen.
Mostly everyone agreed that heading to Atlanta was the way to go. Only Morales and his family had opted out, taking one of the cars and a pistol and heading their separate way.
On the journey, we'd ended up dropping Jim off by the edge of the woods after hours of him pleading and begging.
It wasn't easy. In fact, it was one of the hardest things we'd ever had to do, but it was for the best. Jim knew he wouldn't survive the trip to Atlanta and he thankfully warned us of such. The last thing we needed was for him to die and reanimate on the road.
After, we weren't exactly sure whether we should've kept heading in the same direction but Lori brought up a good point. We were already more than half way there. It would be a waste of gas to turn around now.
We had to cling onto the little hope that ahead of us waited our salvation.
But of course, the world played us for fools.
We found the CDC in the same state as everything else. Deprecated and destroyed, crawling with flies and maggots. The dead scattered by the hundreds and thankfully at the very least, completely dead.
But when the reanimated ones did start showing up, probably from Shane and Rick having a rather loud go, I wasn't sure what would kill us first— the smell or the walkers.
"Shut up! Shut up, you're attracting more of them!" I pleaded as quietly as I could, grabbing a pistol from my belt and holding it anxiously.
Some of the others had began running back to the cars but Lori and I were incessantly pleading with the two men to just give up and run before it was too late.
I could understand Rick's desperation. His family was here, his wife and his boy were counting on him to keep them safe and he'd led them to a dead end. But if he didn't stop screaming at the broken surveillance camera, he would get us all killed.
"Rick, please!" I gripped his arm, trying to pull him away but Shane pushed me back, trying to tackle Rick angrily.
"If you don't let us in, you're killing us, you hear me?!" Rick continued. "YOU'RE KILLING US!"
Shane finally got a good grip on Rick's shirt and began to drag him away forcefully.
"YOU'RE KILLING US!" He kept repeating.
I backed away from the CDC with my heart in my throat, a sense of impending doom as I realized this was it.
Just as we finally turned around, as Rick yelled out in frustration once more, as the numerous walkers began to appear—
A miracle happened.
I could've fallen to my knees if it wasn't for Shane grabbing onto me in shock. Glenn ran to my side, snatching his red hat off and staring at the shutters as they opened and blinded us immediately.
Inside— our salvation.
I wasted no time, grabbing onto Carl and Lori and dragging us into the building with Glenn.
There was a chorus of voices as we all rushed in but my attention was stolen by the stranger who stood pointing a rifle at us. I found it hard to believe a doctor would be handling a gun within this fortress.
"Who the hell are you?" I asked loudly, causing everyone to fall silent.
The man stared at us in disbelief.
Feeling my heart plummet, I shared a weary glance with Glenn. This can't be good.

In Defense of Lori Grimes...
Listen, I've been rewatching TWD and I can only think of Lori Grimes.
I am a Lori Grimes defender for life and I don't care for your criticisms of her. The beginning of the show established that she was a woman going through marital issues. She already voiced how she felt guilty for the way she talked to Rick earlier that day and then found out her husband had been shot and fell into a coma! I don't know if y'all have ever known the grief of losing a parent and have had to watch how the grief affects your remaining parent, but I have. See, I was 5 when my dad was first arrested. My brother and I stayed with my grandma a lot because my mom was rarely home. She went out with friends as a form of escape from everything going on. Yes, she still loved us and she loves us now and we love her, even if it's really complicated and confusing at times. She just wanted to forget.
Shane wasn't much more than a distraction for Lori, an escape. And I am going to remind y'all that Shane took ADVANTAGE of her and her vulnerability. Everything people like to criticize Lori for is rooted in misogyny, like a lot of hate directed toward female characters.
Now, I am going to go over some of the common criticisms I have seen regarding Lori Grimes and I am going to disprove them.
"Lori Grimes was a bad mother."
No. Just No. She was a wonderful and loving mother. She loved Carl so much and she loved Beth. She would've loved Judith. All the times Carl acted bratty, understandably, she never once hit him or degraded him but reatherscoldde him and told him to do better.
AND I AM NOT PUTTING DOWN MICHONNE! I love Michonne and I love Lori. You can love both women and praise them for their roles as mothers and wives without pitting them against each other and it's sad that it is such a common practice amongst fandoms.
2. "Lori Grimes was a bad wife."
No. She was a loyal, supportive, and loving wife. As soon as she saw Rick was alive, she set immediate boundaries with Shane. She told him it was over. She told him she didn't want him to involve himself with her or her family EVER again. Shane didn't like that. He believed that HE OWNED HER and fucking assulted her! Like she is her own person and doesn't belong to anyone.
She supported Rick up until her death. She was his left hand. He went to her for everything, like he does with Michonne. And I love that he does that.
3. "Lori Grimes is selfish."
Okay? And? She's human. She's going to behave selfishly at times. And don't bring up her not wanting to have Judith at the beginning of her pregancy. She didn't need to tell Rick because it was her choice. She told him because she loved him. Rick even told her he would never make her have a child she didn't want but Rick helped her to look positivly towards the world's future. She had very valid reasons for not wanting to have a baby in the apocolypse and even if she had no reason other than not wanting to go through child birth, especially without medicine readily available, that's STILL VALID.
4. "Lori Grimes was a bitch."
This is the last one I'm going to address. Lori Grimes was not a bitch. She was a strong and powerful woman, who didn't take anyone's shit and set strict boundaries.
All I can say is that fandom hates women. Women of color also get a lot of shit, like I'm not denying that AT ALL and I will defend every last woman throughout the TWD universe, even the villians. Just because a woman wasn't submissive or she was antagonistic DOES NOT MEAN SHE'S DESERVING OF ALL HATE!!
In conclusion, I love Lori Grimes and the women of TWD. They're always overshadowed by the men around them and it's time they have the spotlight and praise they deserve.
Only comment if you want to uplift the women of TWD and the world. If not, die. <3 XOXO <3
