taylor liked a fan’s tumblr post:
"why is everyone collectively ignoring the fact that each night Dress is dedicated to a gay performer called Loie Fuller while the screen shows the colors of the bi flag, it’s literally iconic"

Loie Fuller ca. 1905
Marie Louise Fuller was born in a suburb of Chicago in 1862, and quickly began a career as a child actress. With no formal training, she developed an interest in dance and choreography. Rather than attempt classical ballet or other traditional dances, she came up with her own form of free dance. Her pieces used flowing silk costumes as canvases for dynamic multicolored lighting. Performing under the name Loie, Fuller took her performances on the road, and settled in France. There, she mesmerized audiences with her unique dances and gained the friendship of artists and intellectuals, including Auguste Rodin and Marie Curie. Her liquid movements and costumes also made her a popular subject for Art Nouveau painters and sculptors. source

“Wonderfully evocative image of a young woman dancing in the manner of Isadora Duncan or Loie Fuller. Brass, silver toned loose powder case with beige painted enamel, 1930s.”

bit of a fun fact: did you know that the first time Loïe Fuller was ever credited as the creator of the Serpentine Dance was on the Folies Bergère program for its show on November 12th 1892? reputation was released 125 years later on November 10th 2017 and i know it’s not the exact date but taylor couldn’t release an album on a sunday. i just think it’s a really neat coincidence considering the 12th was the first time Loïe saw her name attached to the creation of her own dance.

Appunti: coquillages #
