KEEP TALKING TO ME
"It doesn't have to be like this / All we need to do is make sure / We keep talking."
@goobygnarp thank you for the inspiration 💚
PS i will leave too the pic without the dialogue bubbles layer: tbh this piece could look even better if worked on a vertical canvas but AGH time...

i have some real bad news for Gavin about who exactly makes up the membership of a teaching union.
anyway. in case you needed more reasons to—support the NEU teachers' strikes!

I think what people might not grasp is that, since childhood, I haven't given a shit if someone thinks I'm morally engaged in my entertainment 😂

tbh with how more and more things have become reliant on the internet for the more i’ve been pushing for “if it’s not a small business/artist or the only place to get something you should instead go out and buy it yourself.” i know that isn’t an option for everyone yet in a place like america that prides itself on rampant capitalism and industry there’s a shocking lack of actual stores and it makes me miss things like video rentals or malls. yeah you can scroll through amazon but why do that when you can have an actual experience shopping at a place. you might also find a cheaper, better alternative to what you were looking for.
i hate how there’s this narrative being pushed that malls or even small shopping places aren’t needed when trust me they really are. not every corner of the world has internet nor will anything digital last forever. not every place can wait for shipping or pay for shipping prices. so many places are sitting abandoned and yet because industry baby construction companies and the like prefer to destroy more land to build more things nobody can afford or an office complex. it’s insane, and transforming those old buildings into something new can be even more ecologically friendly. we have so much land sitting right there it’s up for grabs.
make towns more like little villages please instead of making it so you have to waste a fuckton of gas to get to the nearest grocery store or destroy more forest for some highway that might potentially lead to something that isn’t more roads. please.

ok i know 1917 came out barely in 2019 but it just feels so nostalgic to me like when i first saw it the world was sunny and quiet during the first lockdown... the cherry blossom... damn it had *vibes*
REAL it feels like its been ages ago... my sweet old friend... the other week i saw the first blooms of spring and it made me feel so nostalgic and my heart ached thinking about 1917

I'm originally from the US but have only spent a grand total of like 25 days there in the past 5 years and these are the things that I get surprised by or think are super weird about America. I'm trying to stay away from the political/obvious ones:
Garbage disposals - Horror movie shit right there. Like it is quintessentially American... laziness combined with a disregard for the environment, etc. but like. Those things are terrifying? And really really loud??? Also similarly the fact that in so many places in the US it's not normal to recycle, or that you have to pay extra money to a garbage company to do it??
Parking ass out in parking lots - idk why everyone does it there and not like any other country ive lived in but it probably has something to do with space? still, wild. also just the SIZE of the vehicles omfg
Everyone's really rude and entitled? - I have met very few Karens in other countries but America makes me Afraid
When I went last year I was shocked that people don't even wear masks to like go to the hospital or the doctor, even after there was a huge pandemic there. Like is freedom so important that you want to catch disease??
The bathroom stalls! You could drive a car under one of those gaps! And seeing in between them so easily, I just don't know how I ever did it... Also speaking of bathrooms, there's really no hygiene in terms of like cleaning up your #2s. Where are the bum guns/bidets? We're just gonna smear it around with paper, got it.
Venmo? I guess cash isn't a thing anymore, that's new for me lol
Alcoholic seltzer water? Why is it such a trend? Why doesn't anyone like flavor?
People just like as a rule aren't super close with their families and I know it's a huge cultural difference but it is so wild to me that no (white) people in America live with or take care of their grandparents? Like I grew up living over two hours away from my closest relatives. Wild. Also like forcing your kid to move out at 18 years old, in THIS economy smh
The advertising is so much. Ads are everywhere!! Like every time I step off a plane into an airport there that's always the first thing I notice. Like wow it really is a corporocracy over there
This is very much a thing about the fact that I live in Taiwan, but there are public garbage cans! I feel like most countries have them, but wow the joy of just walking down the street and being able to throw something away...
The portion sizes!! They are huge!! I can never finish a meal in that country!!

No. 10 for the Book asks!
Guilty Favourite
Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon. 🫣
Romance! Aliens! Survival on an inhospitable planet! And they are just legitimately very sweet and kind-hearted books? They’re silly but they have a lot of heart. Like yes, community building! Navigating change! Learning how to hunt! We love to see it.

it’s really funny to me that we’ve had post-lockdown material from all of the emo trinity now (fob mcr paramore), and you can clearly see the influence of the pandemic in fall out boy and paramore’s new stuff, but mcr are still dealing with 9/11
