Research: Liz Magor: The rise and the fall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While in Dublin during the summer, I went to Liz Magor’s exhibition “The rise and the fall” in the Douglas Hyde gallery
Magor is a Canadian artist whose practice has primarily centred on sculpture, exploring our persistent and complicated relationship with things.
Working with ubiquitous, manufactured objects that often go unnoticed, she transforms them using inventive sculptural techniques that locate them on a spectrum between still life and the uncanny.
I began thinking of Magor’s work when I first started taking my old toys apart because I am interested in the idea that these mundane items hold memories. I like how she has the items encased in clear boxes. Next I would like to look at doing something with soft toys as these have a great amount of sentimentality connected to them.
