Remind yourself why you love photography

Quotes are collected the same way I collect pictures
Fictional narrative
Colour photographs with text captions. A study of London office life in the late 80’s, a critical observation of the highly competitive character of working life in Thatcher’s Britain this work extends Fox’s earlier interest in working with text an image. My Mothers Cupboards and My Fathers Words

Notes from Home
This series was made when Fox returned (from London) to live in the village of Selborne, Hampshire – near to where she was born. 'I moved back to the area where I grew up, and found myself immediately surrounded by village life. I started to look more closely at the domestic life going on in our new house, and began to construct photo stories about these very simple activities. Each story has its own title and was made in collaboration with another member of the household.' The work has been constructed as an installation; a series of hand made concertina books displayed on shelves resembling shelves from a domestic interior. Each book contains a series of photographs from the domestic interior separately titled as individual narratives: Gifts from the Cat; Making Cakes; Pete’s Food and Flowers; Super Snacks; The Rise and Fall of Father Christmas. Rural life has become one of the fundamental subjects of Fox’s work over the last 30 years. Born in Hampshire and growing up there her work reflects a keen interest in revealing aspects of country life in Southern England that are usually ignored by photographers.
Gifts from the Cat 2000-2003
When we moved we brought our two cats Sweetie Pie and Combat. They were the daughters of a beautiful grey cat, Princess Leah, who tragically died in London after eating rat poisoned meat laid down by our neighbour. The babies survived well and frequently brought us presents starting with worms when they were small building up to mice and birds as they grew older. I once found a dead mouse under my pillow! Shortly after Pete moved in Combat moved out to the neighbours, she was quickly re-named Fluff and to this day will run like a rocket if we try to get near her.

Pete's Food and Flowers 2001
About a year after we moved into the village Pete, an old friend, moved in with us. Every morning he went for a walk and came back with a bunch of wild flowers for us. Every evening he cooked a meal, I had never seen such a range of extraordinary dinners. He was a Falklands veteran and after a while it became clear that he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. In the end he had to leave, we couldn’t manage living with him.
