Straight up the most emotionally moving moment in their series. I laughed, I cried, I cheered.

I mean, did I want to see him and his friends down in a basement with Vegas in a raincoat? Did I want to see them in the Mulvaney brother's murder cabin? Sure. If I'm forced to watch them abuse and assault Sky twice, then I think I deserve a little on-screen torture, but I'll take what I can get.

Small little rant but does anyone else hate how people just turn off their brains during the final Dawntrail fight and go on about how Wuk Lamat 'took away our thunder' or memeing how Sena Bryer said the boss's name during it? It wasn't until I was reblogging that very good post about how women in XIV don't get the arc Lamaty'i does and how I mentioned offhandedly about it that the meaning of it to me just hit me and I didn't realize it until like a month after early access?

Lamaty'i wanted to help us as well, not just knock sense into the boss. We helped her during her journey into becoming who she is so I see it as 'not hogging the spotlight' (fuck off Hunt Trains and YouTube comments) but rather 'You helped me when I needed it, let me do the same.' And honestly, I found it rather sweet. No, she's not uber powerful like us but as someone who absolutely would at least try, it means something. Sometimes thoughts and prayers don't work so the next best thing is having an orange kitty come busting in.

thinking today about episode Ardyn since I finally played it, but I'm not thinking about Ardyn, I'm thinking about Verstael Besithia. Here's a dude who "rescued" Ardyn for his own diabolical purposes, then kept him locked up for months while he wore down his resistance until he was willing to turn fully evil.

and Prompto is a clone of this guy.

clearly there's nature vs nurture and DNA isn't everything but gosh!!! what does Prompto have that he shares with Verstael via their DNA? honestly the most disconcerting thing in ep Ardyn is having to see Prompto's face acting very much not like Prompto.

but anyway does Prompto have dark tendencies he has learned to suppress? did Verstael love chocobos?? is Prompto excellent at science? what do they actually have in common here?

if Prompto mostly grew up on his own, did he have good influences from somewhere or did Verstael have bad influences?

leaving side the other main thing about ep Ardyn that introduces a massive glaring plot hole into all of ffxv in that somehow Noctis appears to be unaware that Adagium is a thing and escaped and is working with Niflheim. like I get that maybe they wouldn't know what Ardyn looks like bc he was disguised but the fact of his existence??? is this not crucial information for a chosen king to have???

and that is why I generally summarily dismiss episode Ardyn from the canon I use in my fic tbh

So the LITA special is a whole hour of Disney(you know if Disney had lgbtq couples and kink) straight-to-DVD sequel frivolous madness about Rain and Sky being angry at their boyfriends for being hot, rich, and in demand?

Featuring the epic return of unhinged Rain(I really love the way his friends lean in hard on the teasing because Rain is all kinds of extra and it’s sweet they enjoy that most of the time.)

And sassy Dom Sky (who I did not see enough of in his story)

Y'all Prepai is so delighted here. You'd think he was some poor little innocent lamb who has been waiting his whole life for someone to guard his virtue from all the hot men and women constantly throwing themselves at him, instead of a big ole' "former" ho(affectionate).

and one of the few solely comic relief characters in Thai BL I can stand(I love you Nawin from LoA!). 

I have to compliment them on doing a really good job of showing the difference in the relationship dynamics between the two couples even while the two “forgiveness” scenarios played out very similarly.

Prepai knows he has no clue about relationships, so he assumes that he actually did screw up somehow.

Payu knows that Rain is a pouty flibbertigibbet and, while it’s possible, he did inadvertently do something wrong. It’s more likely Rain is just being Rain. 

Also, it's a perfect demonstration of service sub/top vs bratty sub in action. (I consider Payu and Sky both soft Doms obvs with different kinks and techniques)

Man, This Prepai and Sky I really like. There was an absolutely fun RomCom about 80s-coded player Prepai hooking up for an anonymous one-night stand and then accidentally falling for 90s-coded earnest Sky just waiting for these characters/actors instead of what we got. (I originally wrote this up before I saw the trailer for Love Sea and it was like the BL gods answered my prayers.)

This special was goddamn delightful

Saw a post somewhere questioning if this special was necessary and yes, yes it was. Things that spark joy are always necessary.

Okay and I watched the LITA scenes in The Wedding Planner and I love that you can see how Rain has matured and how the relationship has matured, but that he’s still enough of a little gremlin to want to compete with Sky.

Wanna know a funny thing? Maybe it's because I curate the hell out of my stuff here but I haven't seen really any negative stuff about Dawntrail on here. Even critique and criticism I tend to see is calm and explains stuff. Sadly Twitter is just Screech Into The Abyss and it Screeches Back.

I am afraid once the embargo is lifted to hear more nasty shit. For the record, I enjoyed Dawntrail. 7-8/10, no ranking system because my thing is 'did I have fun overall' and if it's yes then that's good for me. I'm a simple idiot.

Wow, over already. First thoughts.

Okay, I was right about the bathroom scene taking place in the car, but I pretty much already knew that from the preview. I was also right that they would show the Fuma spots Kai at the race scene in tangent with the Arashi drags Rei from the race part.

I was wrong thinking they would leave out the spanking and go straight to Arashi yelling at Rei.

Did not expect the early meeting with the Stop character, but yeah, he's still an asshole in every universe.

So we do have a Sig character he just isn't as prominent. I had to giggle over him launching paperballs at Rei.

I know I said I wouldn't, but one I will allow myself two tiny comparisons.

One, I like the Thai post race scene better because it feels more like Phayu is coming from a place of fear for Rain being reckless with his own safety when he spanks and yells at Rain.

Two, I like Rei's challenge more because, although it deviates from the source material, you get the feeling he has already fallen and isn't just pushing back as some silly challenge from pride. Especially with that post credit scene.

Seriously, it felt like the episode just started when the credits were rolling, which was the same feeling I always had with Thai Lita. it doesn’t have to do with length, but a good series leaves me wanting more.
