Living Clipboards are a Dunedin/Wellington New Zealand group comprising members from The 3Ds and Look Blue Go Purple (Denise Roughan), Mark Williams (MarineVille) and Jim Abbott (Ghost Club). They really do sound like a sum of their previous bands and then some. At times I can also hear Hamish Kilgour/The Great Unwashed.
Which is interesting since I also saw that Paul Kean posted a song from The Archers - one of his many side projects. This side project consisted of Hamish and Lisa Siegal (Mad Scene) and Kaye Woodward and Paul Kean (The Bats, Minisnap). There is only a single track currently available, but Paul promises to keep cleaning up the songs which were were recorded "one cold winter".
Living Clipboards was mastered by Tex Houston and is available from Burning Log, a label based in Wellington, New Zealand.

loled to myself this morning at how everyone on earth makes priscilla out to be a vicious heartless golddigger and decided to do 1 second of research into the matter to conclude that as expected, the internet is hysterical and off base. to me, she seems like sheâs just out there trying to do her best and handle her enormous life.
disclosure: i did this for my own knowledge because i was curious. iâm not out here trying to engage trolls or tell anyone what to think.
read that she was really hesitant abt priscilla but ultimately thought coppola did enough research and made it âspot onâ. she cried when she saw the film. she elaborated by saying that when you live with someone so famous during a crucial part of their life you go through many ups and downs and experience their struggles and fears alongside them. also that all of her/their privacy is hard to give up and hard to share so she doesnât want to give out too much because she wants some of it for herself - thatâs theirs and theirs alone. which, ultimately leads someone with common sense to believe (who didnât already assume) that the elvis & me novel (and priscilla) are just the most dramatic snippets of their relationship (without lots of context).
she also went on to say that she vowed not to remarry as long as elvis was alive because she didnât think he could handle it - and not only did she not, but she also kept that promise long after his death. saying she never wanted to remarry after him, that no one âcould ever match himâ.
i also knew next to nothing about lisa marie and the drama surrounding the estate and/or their relationship - but again, one quick search and applying my years of doing estate work as a paralegal makes it clear that priscilla was challenging the validity of a purported amendment made in 2016 which removed her (and barry siegal) as co-trustees (and instituted lisaâs children instead) to the graceland trust. which fine, lisa probably did want that, but it was stated that in the amendment, lisaâs signature was not her âusual signatureâ, her name was misspelled, and the amendment was never given to priscilla during lisaâs lifetime which was an expressed term of the trust. it was also never witnessed or notarized. so, given that, questioning its legitimacy is an entirely expected thing to do. itâs hardly insidious đ. especially during such an emotionally difficult time. a contract is a contract. even if lisa did want to change the doc without priscilla knowing, she was legally required to give it to her and she didnât. also, a settlement of 1 mil plus a graceland burial is hardly âgougingâ of her daughter/granddaughterâs money. graceland is worth what? 718 million? and ppl complain about priscilla getting some money after keeping elvisâ legacy alive and graceland relevant for the past 50 yrs? lordy. not only that but the attorney for riley even stated at the proceedingâs conclusion that everyone is unified and happy and ready to move forward.
but funny how the narrative of âevil priscilla sues her granddaughterâ became so popular. this instance is the most uneventful, run of the mill thing lol. obviously we donât know the absolute truth or facts of the situation (and i did not look up the proceedings), but if a document isnât witnessed and notarized itâs always ground for suspicion. also, if someoneâs signature isnât their usual signature, it arises the question of coercion or signing not in your right mind. so, like i said, entirely expected and nbd.
priscilla is also human and fallible, so iâm sure sheâs made mistakes, bad business dealings or even acted recklessly or spitefully over the course of her lifetime, but she continually speaks to how much she loved/loves elvis, lisa and the family legacy. she clearly still burns a candle for elvis and does her best to keep things moving forward and alive and relevant. i donât blame her for wanting to make sure things are secure and in order as she gets older.
i also know practically nothing about lisa, but it seems like she was troubled (?) to some extent (she reminds me of britney spears a little in that way), so iâm sure some of priscillaâs âcontrolling and hoveringâ over her life was misconstrued protectiveness and burden-bearing. iâm sure mistakes were made, but i highly doubt she was the manipulative vulture ppl make her out to be. (itâs like the britney situation - everyone advocated for her âfreedomâ when in reality sheâs clearly ill and her state rn is pretty questionable imo).
i also donât blame priscilla for not having issue with priscilla being made. itâs controversial but itâs 2023 and she probably figured it was timely and likely to get good reception. sheâs surely had an incredibly difficult life, and wanting some of her truth (the ugly truth) to also be known and added to the legacy must be validating. because elvis was a flawed person, a product of his time, and likely very cruel at times.
anyway those are my two cents and i think the internet is a plague. not looking to engage stans or fact police, just wanted to get my thoughts out there. not tagging.
#grimmrambles#long post#listen ive been an elvis fan since i could process auditory information#there wasnt a moment my dad wasnt playing him growing up#and everyone is human - good bad questionable honorable#and i cant imagine how warped priscillas life has been#so lets just give her a little grace and stfu lol

The Lincolnâs lawyer Season 2 - Part. 1 : Quotes
â- When that guy got shot, I thought it would be a disaster, but it turned out to be a gold mine. There is no such thing as bad publicity.â (Lorna - Episode 1)
â- You gotta strike while the ironâs hot. (Mickey) - Maybe. But in my experience, fame is like crack.â (Izzy - Episode 1)
â- Iâm sorry. There. Send. Done.â (Episode 1)
âWell, it is LA. This cityâs always been in love with whateverâs next.â (Mickey - Episode 1)
âSo Iâm thinking misdemeanor trespass, time served, plus my client would generously agree to pay for the window. Or you can roll the dice at trial, but then the story would be that someoneâs drugging people, and the DAâs too busy going after innocent victims to do anything about it.â (Mickey - Episode 1)
âI went to see Bob. Tried to see whether I could get another one of my cases back. He offered me second chair as a courtesy. Felt more like a âfuck youâ, but whoâs counting?â (Maggie - Episode 1)
âHeâs got the magic bullet in his hands. He knows who the real killer is, and he canât use it. Yeah, but there are exceptions to confidentiality, right? This new client is a dangerous killer. (Mickey) - So? For defense attorneys, thatâs half their clientele.â (Legal Siegal - Episode 2)
â- The more you live in someoneâs shadow, kid, the longer it takes to cast your own.â (Legal Siegal - Episode 2)
âYou wanna stay in jail? (Mickey) - No. (Glory Days) - Okay. Then help me help you, Glory.â (Mickey - Episode 2)
â- Thereâs nothing complicated about it. Itâs just money. You gotta get to your dinner service, and Iâm in the middle of something, too, so you got my number if something comes up. (Mickey) - Yeah, well, donât tempt me. I might use it.â (Episode 2)
â- But the key to all of it is maintaining the confidentiality. You canât tell anybody what youâre doing beforehand, especially not the police. You just point them in the right direction and get out of the way. Well, as long as the hypothetical lawyer crosses all his Ts, whatâs the hypothetical client gonna do about it?â (Legal Siegal - Episode 2)
â- How was I supposed to know you couldnât help yourself from going after the last person who could identify you? (Mickey) - You set me up. (Russell) - No, Russell. You set yourself up. You have one big disadvantage. Youâre insane. It makes you very predictable. So, Iâm sorry, but youâre gonna have to find yourself another lawyer. Oh, and Russell, just so you know, I have clients in every prison in California. Very loyal clients. If anything were to happen to my family, Iâd make sure a few of them pay you a visit.â (Mickey - Episode 2)
âHe was right, you know, when he told me an innocent man is the worst kind of client there is.â (Mickey) - He was half right. Not if you win.â (Legal Siegal - Episode 2)
â- Dan Daly. Heâs got a full calendar, but I donât know. I could make a call. (Mickey) - Youâd do that for me? Well, look at that. Lawyers are good for something, after all. (...) Christmas is over, Counselor. And I ainât Santa.â (The police inspector - Episode 3)
â- Youâll have to get the rest the old-fashioned way. Shouldnât be long. Theyâre expediting the arraignment.â (Episode 3)
â- You believe me, right? (Lisa) Lisa, Iâm your attorney right now. Iâll tell you what I tell every client. It doesnât matter what I think. Itâs irrelevant. (Mickey) - Fuck, Mickey. Are you serious? (Lisa) - Donât talk to anyone. That means in the jail phone too. Calls are recorded. Just say, âIâm innocent of the charges, and on the advice of my attorney, I canât talk about my case.â (Mickey - Episode 3)
â- Oh my God ! Please tell me youâr not taking the case. You two have seen each other naked. Conflict of interest much? Hello? (Lorna) - As long as our intimate relationship stays in the past, thereâs not conflict. (Mickey) - Been there, done that. But this is a whole new lever of messy. (Lorna) - Itâs not ideal, but this is a high-profile case, Lorna. I have to entertain it.â (Mickey - Episode 3)
â- I donât know what youâre talking about, but I do know your guy was guilty. - Thatâs not the point. (Mickey) - Iâm sorry, that is exactly the point. - I defended my client and got him a not-guilty verdict. Last time I checked, thatâs the job.â (Mickey - Episode 3)
â- You know, you choose high-profile clients for a reason. You love all eyes being trained on you and only you.â (Episode 3)
â- Where did you get the money, Henry? (Mickey) - You have no idea how lucrative podcasts can be, do you? (Henry) - I know a con man when I see one.â (Mickey - Episode 3)
â- You said barely. Feels to me like youâre hiding something.â (Episode 3)
â- You think this is gonna work? Itâs the appearance of impropriety.â (Episode 3)
â- You know, you still havenât said if you believe Iâm innocent. (Lisa) - Lisa, I... Come on. I told you it doesnât matter what I believe. My job is to get you a not-guilty verdict, no matter what. Itâs subjective, granted, but I get feelings about people.â (Mickey - Episode 4)
â- You know this, Mickey. And I just have a feeling that thereâs something off about Lisa. (Lorna) - You donât think that might be your bias coming out? Luckily, your feelings are not admissible in court, Lorna. (Mickey) - What are you saying? (Lorna) - Iâm not saying. Iâm asking. (Mickey - Episode 4)
â- Conceptual, but still art.â (Mickey - Episode 4)
â- Iâm not an art critic, Angelica. Iâm your lawyer.â (Mickey - Episode 4)
â- I donât know. Iâll try to sell it.â (Episode 4)
â- My advice would be that you do because itâs one time and one time only.â (Episode 4)
â- You have until tomorrow, then itâs off the table. If the justice system were that simple, innocent people would never be accused. Your trial is a gamble.â (Mickey - Episode 4)
â- For a lawyer, a good suit is like a coat of armor, and Gustavo makes the best armor in town.â (Mickey - Episode 5)
â- But what if it helps? Makes people have empathy for her. âWhoever controls the media controls the mind.ââ (Izzy - Episode 5)
â- You engineered this to make her show her cards. You canât complain now because you donât like your hand.â (The Judge - Episode 5)
â- How can you defend me if you think Iâm guilty? The juryâs gonna see it on you just like I do. (Lisa) - I defend clients accused of crimes all the time, guilty or innocent. It doesnât matter. I do everything in my power to win. (Mickey) - So now Iâm just a client to you. (Lisa) - Thatâs not what I meant. (Mickey - Episode 5)

Books, Books, Books! (aka, mid-year book freakout)
I normally only post my 5-star list to facebook and I might also do that here, but I wanted to do something extra.Â
I donât want to say how many books Iâve read so far this year because itâs frankly a little embarrassing because the number is so high.
Here we go!
best book youâve read so far? Ship of Theseus by Doug Dorst. Itâs literally indescribable.
best sequel youâve read so far? We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal
new releases you want to read? Tokyo Dreaming by Emiko Jean, The Hacienda by Isabel Canas (which I just got notified came in on hold), Siren Queen by Nghi Vo, Queerly Beloved by Susie Dumond, Improbable Magic for Cynical Witches by Kate Scelsa, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, The Change by Kirsten Miller, This is Not the Real World by Anna Carey, Out of the Blue by Jason June, Yerba Buena by Nina LaCour, Counterfeit by Kirsten Chen, A Little Bit Country by Brian Kennedy, and The Key to Deceit by Ashley Weaver
most anticipated to still be released in 2022? Babel by R.F. Kuang, The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber, Foul Lady Fortune by Chloe Gong, Bloodmarked by Tracey Deonn, and The Shattered City by Lisa Maxwell
biggest disappointment? Hotel Magnifique by Emily Taylor. I heard it was so good and itâs a beautiful book, just poorly written
biggest surprise? Macbeth by Jo Nesbo. I finally finished the Hogarth Shakespeare series, and a lot of them were mediocre, but I was really impressed with this one.
new favorite author? Amanda Bestor-Siegal (The Caretakers)
new fictional crush? Claire from Delilah Green Doesnât Care
new favorite character? Rene Delacroix from Sailing By Orionâs Star by Katie Crabb
a book that made you cry? The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
a book that made you happy? Count Your Lucky Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur
most beautiful book youâve bought? Either Fairyopolis (found for $3 while thrifting) or the MinaLima Harry Potters
what do you want to read before 2022 ends? Too many books to list! Everything on my Goodreads list that hasnât come out yet, and everything on my almost 300 book Google doc TBR

Edvard Munchâs âThe Scream,â from 1893, is one of the worldâs most famous paintings, but for years art historians have mostly ignored a tiny inscription, written in pencil, at the upper left corner of its frame, reading: âCould only have been painted by a madman.â
âItâs been examined now very carefully, letter by letter, and word by word, and itâs identical in every way to Munchâs handwriting,â said Mai Britt Guleng, the museumâs curator of old masters and modern paintings, who was in charge of the research. âSo there is no more doubt.â
Munch painted four versions of âThe Screamâ from 1893 to 1910, depicting a skeletal figure on a bridge holding his face while screaming in agony. The first version, painted in tempera on panel with pastels, is the one owned by the National Museum, and is the only one that bears this inscription.
In his diary, Munch wrote that the painting was inspired by âa gust of melancholy.â It has become a symbol of existential angst and called the Mona Lisa of modern art [...].
Munch probably wrote the sentence on his painting in 1895, according to Guleng, after his exhibition of new work at the Blomqvist gallery in Oslo. During a debate about the exhibition at the University of Osloâs Students Association one night, a medical student, Johan Scharffenberg said the artwork gave him reason to question the artistâs mental state, calling Munch abnormal and a âmadman.â Munch was deeply hurt, said Jacobsen, and wrote about it even decades later.
Guleng believes the inscription is written with irony and reflects both pain at being attacked and fear of being regarded as mentally ill. âBy writing this inscription in the clouds, he took possession, in a way, or he took control of how he was to be perceived and understood,â she said.

As Jason Elliott himself explains âWhile this is technically a Blues festival, we will offer variety and range to the programme in general. At times, the programme will encompass the wider definition of blues, soul and other related genres, albeit firmly centered in the ârootsâ music tradition. The reality is that Blues music is the historical foundation for almost all western popular music and nearly all genres are âchildrenâ or âgrandchildrenâ of the blues, a fact which needs to be kept front and centre of the story. After all, part of our remit is to keep the genre alive by bringing in new blood; both as audiences and as performersâ.
Jason also explained âApart from the world-renowned acts we are bringing in this year, âThe Jessica Foxley Unsigned Projectâ â focusing as it does on nurturing young and emerging Blues-based talent â in many ways symbolises much of our new direction. Our mission of bringing new life, new acts and audiences into this key genre, must span all levels of experience, technical ability and all age groups to be truly successful. This is where Colne can create its legacyâ.
The 28th edition of the Festival will run from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th August 2017 at a number of venues including the Hippodrome, The Municipal Theatre and various âroadhouseâ venues around the town.
