WIP WEDNESDAY WHENEVER

I got tagged by @theviridianbunny thank youuu!

The Kurt drawing I started a month ago is almost finished so I won't show that as a WIP again lol. But I settled on what I want to draw next already and I am way to hyped by the idea (Cyberpunk/Witcher crossover)

WRITING

I write quite a lot lately (or try to). Manly oc stuff because I managed to get obsessed with Alyona. Welp.

Her character introduction for my AU is halfway finished, but I am overthinking if it got a little to shippy (I didn't intendet that in the beginning but it just happened and I like it hehe). Maybe I make my shippy stuff into something extra and name it after the ship to keep the actual AU "cleaner" bc it's not that important for the plot. I don't know! I can't organzie my stuff!

Here's a preview of the introduction tho. For context: It's a backflash and around 2073, the business in Dtown starts to bloom and she comes for a visit to see what the Colonel came up with (try not to cringe by posting your writing but cringe anyway):

A woman got out of the helicopter after them. Relatively tall, slim, athletically muscular, her short black hair was tousled by the wind, the sides of her skull were shaved short. She wore simple, military-style clothing. Cargo pants, lace-up heavy boots, a tactical leather jacket. Everything was kept in black and dark olive tones. If you didn't know any better, you'd say she was from here and it would be easy for her to blend in with the masses in Dogtown. One detail that made her stand out, was a multitude of thin scars that ran from the lower left side of her face across her nose and up to her forehead. Judging by the degree of healing, it was a very old wound. At least on the outside.

She walked confidently past her people, holding a bottle of clear liquid with an elaborately designed label in her right hand. Probably high-proof alcohol from her home.

After a few steps, however, she stopped abruptly and pushed the aviator glasses she was wearing down a little to look over the rim in disbelief and with a raised eyebrow.

"You look old, Kurt," she said blatantly, examined the man in front of her from top to bottom and continued to walk slowly towards the him, then took her glasses off completely and put them in the inside pocket of her jacket.

"It hasn't been that long since we last saw each other, has it?"

Her English was remarkably good when compared to other representatives from this part of the world who were usually up for business in Dogtown. However, she was unable to mask the slight accents common to the Russian language.

Kurt ignored her little teasing and tried to be professional.

"I'm glad you're here too." He couldn't help but welcome her with a thin smile." And it should be about half a year. The last time was in Laos during the negotiations."

Both slowly came to a halt in front of each other. Jago had followed the Colonel discreetly and kept to the background.

"That was six months ago already. Seems like I did good on suppressing the memories about that terrible place“, she answered shaking her head in disbelief.

"How was the flight?" he added tersely.

"Ah," she made a dismissive hand gesture. "Alright. I am getting used to traveling.“ She showed him the bottle she brought with her. „Here's your favorite. Don't worry, I've got more in the helicopter."

Without further ado, she pressed it into Hansen's hand.

For all the people standing by who were not yet familiar with Alyona and her way of dealing with Kurt, this whole encounter must have seemed incredibly strange. They all only knew him as the undisputed authority figure and nobody, except at most his old brothers in arms, would dare to talk to him like that. And even there were limits.

Alyona finally looked with interest at the man standing behind the Colonel.

„And who is the cute little cat? I don't think we've met yet.“

Jago's features froze completely and he didn't think he had heard correctly.

"The cute little... EXCUSE ME?" he replied with audible outrage in his voice.

Just started to activly making pics on my console and would like to come up with a little series in the future maybe.

Atm I try to make pics for a fun Discord Challenge where I have to show a single day in the live of my V. Since I am still obsessed with a certain disctrict I thought I make it a "Dogtown Days"- Edition. I struggle with the limited set of poses but I'll figure something out.

Yea think that's it for now. I still have so many ideas for a lot of different things but I have to restrain myself and finish some things first before I get lost in my WIP-Limbo.

Chapter 3 “Ya’ know, when ya’ told me ya’ had a business, I didn’t think ya’ meant a bar, Mr. Kim.”

“Beer is normally cleaner than water, unfortunately,” he explained. He went behind the counter and began to pour her some milk. “But, my father knew men in the right places. We got fresh water n’ milk on tap for the less hardy patrons. I don’t take ya’ for a drinkin’ gal, so let’s get you somethin’ good and cold.”

Rika looked at him incredulously. “Cold?”

Jihyun chuckled. It might’ve been hot as hell, but he had ways of making sure there was a means to find something chilled. She could tell from the glint in his eyes. Seemingly, if anybody could make a miracle happen, it was probably him. She wasn't sure how but she didn't want to doubt him again. Instead, she took the glass from his hands and savored the taste. It was unlike anything she could’ve ever tasted back home.

She’d heard stories of what ice and snow felt like from her parents before but it sounded like a fever dream. It was like a bedtime story somebody would tell to make you feel better. It didn't mean that it was real. It didn't matter how close something was to making it real, if there was no way to know for sure, how could you believe in it?

How could something like that exist when all she had to see for as far as her eyes could reach was dry heat? How could something cold exist when she had no concept of the cold? Sure, the air could feel frigid at night. But, that didn't seem to be the same thing as the cold that she heard about in stories. This cold was something different, something that couldn't be described without having a firsthand experience. She could feel a smile on her face. It felt foreign to have a natural smile, but she had one.

There was no doubt in her mind, as crazy as it was to decide to stay with him for the time being, she didn't think she'd regret it. His offer was firm. If she wanted to leave at any point, he would make sure that she could. But, if she wanted to stay with him, he promised to do everything within his power to ensure that nobody came after her. Even if he didn't know the entire threat that was lingering over her head, he was willing to do whatever it took to make things right.

“Good, right?”

“It’s amazin’, somethin’ else, really,” she uttered.

It wasn't like she had many words to describe her experience, but she was sure that he did understand. At least, if her dazzled eyes were anything to go by. As unbelievable as it was to imagine people in this world had access to things beyond her wildest imagination, it was even more unbelievable to think he would be willing to give it to her for free. This place was special. There was no doubt about that in her mind. It almost made her wonder what more could be done with this place.

Rika finished her glass within a few minutes. As it settled in her stomach, the liquid made her feel like there was a little ice inside of her chest. It wasn't the worst feeling in the world. She kind of liked the aftertaste. She didn't want to get used to something that might not be easy to find, but boy, she had to get someone else to try it. She placed it back into his hand so he could properly wash and dry it, then she went to explore the building.

He told her she could look at anything she wanted when they took his wagon into town. His home wasn't all that far from the town, but it still took longer than it would for her to go from church to home. She didn't know much about the next town over to hers, so it was a surprise to see that it took longer to get around. This was a wasteland of nothing and only God's will, so in hindsight, it did make sense. The trip was worth the wait. Many people were bustling throughout the town early in the morning.

Of course, nobody was expected in his bar yet. Most of the crowd he encountered would saunter in during a break or the evening. If somebody wanted to get a drink early in the morning, they could find a way outside of him.

The saloon itself had an expansive amount of space. What caught her eye at first was a set of stairs that led to a room. There was only one room up there but the door was ornate and seemed to be important.

When she turned back to ask him what that was, he informed her that it was his office. Well, it would make sense for him to keep all of his money out of sight and out of mind. It was better that way if there were all kinds of men visiting. Not that she was assuming the worst of people, but it was better to be on the safe side when there were outlaws on the line.

Men…

Bars were meant for working men, right?

Her family told her that bars were a place of depravity. However, that couldn't have been further from the truth as far as she could tell. Jihyun said that plenty of people stopped by since he took care of any soul that wandered in, man, woman, child, crook, lawman, etc. Sure, there might have been a lot of bars that were filled with sin, but this one was far from it. As long as somebody like him was in charge, she didn't imagine that there could be anything wrong.

He smiled when she continued to wander through the bottom floor of the bar. A part of the deal she had made with him was that during the time that she would stay under his roof, she would pay him back. He didn't want her to do so, but she didn't feel right doing something without paying back in some way, shape, or form.

He mentioned that she could come and work at the bar if she wanted to, but if she didn't want to be in an environment like that, he would ask her to take care of his house while he was away. It seemed like a fair trade to him. She could work with that, considering that's where most of her skills were.

The rest of the building was as she expected. There were countless tables and chairs alongside the bartop counter. People could get their fill of food and alcohol. The kitchen, he mentioned, was in a room right behind the bar. She didn't bother wandering into there just yet, since she expected it to have a lot of tools that would leave her gasping. This man came for money, so he could have modern and up-to-date technology. It was wild enough when she saw that he had a way to wash clothes with a hand crank. She had been doing that by hand for God knows how long.

The chuckle he had when she gawked at him was a memory she couldn't forget.

There was a long hallway right off of the bar that had two rooms. When Rika checked, they appeared to be a mixture of storage and dressing rooms. There were a few odd boxes and some lingering clothes left behind. She wasn't sure why there would be clothing or dressing sheets folded up in the corner. It was a bar, what need was there in letting anyone store clothing items? It perplexed her. It wasn't as odd as having an office.

She turned around and went to find him again, “Hey, Jihyun?”

“Yes?”

“Might I ask why yer’ back rooms are filled? I reckon I understand why ya’d have some stuff back there, like food and excess drinks that can’t just be used yet. But, what’s with the clothes y’all got back there? Was this place somethin’ else ‘fore it became a bar?”

Jihyun set down the glass he’d been holding and offered her his hand. She took it and he led her to the far side of the room where long drapes were covering the walls. He began to pull a cling and it revealed something spectacular. It was a stage. It wasn’t like the pulpit at church. It was huge, with a grand and mighty piano on top. She parted her lips to say something but found she wasn’t sure what to say about it.

A stage?

What was the stage doing in a bar?

“When I was a boy,” he started, lifting himself to sit on the edge of the stage. He slid over so she could join him. “My ma’ would perform at the bar for everyone. She was a master at the fiddle and could play a circle ‘round the devil himself. Ain’t nothing ever compared to her music show, least, that’s often what people tell me. She lost her hearin’ on a count of’a’ a fever when I was a lil’ kid, and ma’ couldn’t perform anymore. Father closed the stage n’ people stopped comin’ to see her perform after that.”

He sighed, “Ain’t nothin’ been on this stage in a decade. I reckon it’s been rottin’ back here since there ain’t been no reason fer’ me to do anythin’ with it, either. But, I can’t bring myself to rip it down… it’d be erasin’ my ma’... and I don’t want that to happen in my life. If you were wonderin’ why there’s stuff hidden like a dirty secret, they belonged to my ma’, long story short. Father didn’t wanna keep any of her stuff where he could see ‘em… so, they’re here ‘stead of bein’ at home.”

Oh.

That would explain everything sitting in the back rooms. Those outfits might have belonged to his mother or other performers that would join her on stage. It was such a shame to think that his mother lost her ability to show the world her gift given to her by God. This bar was lively, but to imagine this place being even more alive, oh, she wished she could’ve seen it. That wistful look in his eyes made it seem like he never had the chance to see it himself. That was so awful.

She didn't know a lot about his childhood. She didn't know a lot about him, honestly. But, the fact that he was willing to share such a vulnerable part of himself made her want to make things right. If she was going to be here with him, she needed to do something to bring a smile to his face. He didn't think twice about making a smile come to hers. Why would she hesitate to do the same for him? There was no reason to do that, but there was all the reason to make things right for his act of kindness.

He was doing so much to help people without receiving anything in return! It was sad to imagine that he would allow himself to not have what he wanted. It was obvious that he wanted to see that show… but, it’d never happen. His mother was no longer alive and even if she was, she couldn't complete the melody she had started. She didn't know what it felt like to have a family that loved her, but she did know what it felt like to be given kindest by another person.

Rika could hear the pain in his voice. She didn't want to step on his toes or talk about something that he would rather leave buried, but that sadness in his eyes made her feel bad. She thought long and hard for a moment as she was soaked in his words and suddenly, a brilliant idea came to mind. She climbed up on that stage and spun around to face him, her smile growing by the minute.

She could see a vision growing in her mind. There was something she could do to pay him back for all the kindness he’d shared. She needed to do this. “Mr. Kim, I have a proposition for you to pay you back for your kindness.”

There was nothing to it. Nothing to the sensation of feathers tickling her shoulders. She could do this like she'd done it a hundred times. Then again, it didn't do much to practice running to overthink a small performance. If she was going to do it, she had to act on instinct and impulse alone. That was how her butterflies would settle and she could finally see the other side of her goals.

"It's like the choir," she whispered. "It ain't no different than being next to the pulpit in church. Ya' put on a brave face n' ya' do what ya' know ya' need to do, Miss Rika. There ain't no devils here to judge ya', neither. Ya' just gotta own yer' voice and sing the song just like laundry out by the river when yer' out there alone. The crowd really ain't no different than buzzards n' jackrabbits."

It was just like the first time she sang in church.

There were butterflies in the pit of her stomach. Were they anxious or excited about what was to come? It was hard to say. It was no different than singing in the choir, she reminded herself. The crowd might have been a different set of faces, but she knew it was, all the same, to perform.

People came to places like this to enjoy themselves. She knew how to keep a smile on her face. Yet, her heart couldn’t stop roaring like a band of galloping horses.

It wasn't the first time she felt that way, and it wouldn't be the last. However, she knew that she had a choice in this situation. She could choose to be afraid of these feelings welling up inside of her or she could embrace them. Everything her parents taught her about the world had been a lie, and now she wanted to do something to reclaim her body.

She wasn't just doing this to make a right on the debt she owed Jihyun.

She owed him her life, a debt that could only be repaid by giving a gift back to him, and though he didn't want her life in return for saving it… Even if he didn't see it as a debt, she saw it as one. So, she found the best way to meet him in the middle. She was as stubborn as they come, that's what he said, but she didn't see that as a bad thing anymore. Rika smiled when he said it. She always bowed her head and did what people told her to do. She didn't hesitate to do the right thing. She knew what the right thing to do was.

She wouldn't allow herself to call this a selfish act.

After all, there was nothing selfish about being willing to walk on that stage, at least, that’s what Jihyun said. In doing so, she was going to reveal herself in a vulnerable way that couldn’t be taken back once it started. But, she was doing this of her free will. The dazzling lights of the stage beckoned her from the minute she twirled in the sunlight.

For some reason, this felt like something she was meant to do. She couldn't say why or how, but her heart knew this was where she had to be. She was needed here.

Rika had her hand on her hip, there was a cheer from the crowd and that was her cue that she couldn’t make them wait any longer. People had been told that she was going to put on a show worthy of what this place deserved. It might not have been the same thing they would get years ago, but she was going to do her best to give them something worthwhile.

Her corset was snuggly around her waist, her long flowing skirt bellowed around her hips and left nothing to the imagination as her right leg came out from behind a tactful slit she’d sewed herself.

Around her bare shoulders was a gift that Jihyun gave her that morning. It was an old feather boa made of the whitest feathers she’d ever seen. It once belonged to his mother. She wouldn't wear it when she was performing, but she would wear it as soon as her performance was over to greet and talk to patrons. She was honored to have a token of his family.

She was wearing this because he asked her to, but the weight of it wasn't lost. She wanted to bring this place alive again. So, it felt right to have a piece of his mother there. She was there in spirit. Mrs. Kim would be able to show a piece of her soul to her soul. Rika was sure of it. If he didn't want her to have such an honor, he wouldn't have made the offer in the first place.

She took in a breath. The show was starting and this was the point of no return. There was no way to turn around. She made her promise and she intended to keep it. With her hands clasped against her chest, an unspoken prayer was whispered in the back of her heart.

The curtains pulled open with the help of one of the men that used to work with Jihyun’s mother, and she was on. The lights from the small opening in the roof glimmered down on the stage and kissed her cheek as if she was being spurred by the sun. It brought peace to her heart. She knew she could do this. There was not a drop of fear left inside of her the second she could see her place among the stars.

She looked at the faces in the crowd and smiled back at them as she waved. There was some hollering and cheers from the men, but she didn’t mind the calls this time. She was safe on stage. He promised that as long as she was within his care, she wouldn’t need to be afraid of anything… even if the fears she had weren’t something she’d admitted to him at length yet.

It was that peace of mind that made her feel safe and sound. This moment was what she wanted it to be. She felt increasingly warm, warm in a way that made her understand what stories meant by being curled up by a cozy fire.

And then, she locked eyes with him.

Jihyun was at the counter where she expected him to be but when she saw him, it was like nobody else could bother her. Any distractions that could’ve found her in the crowd were from her mind. She’d been given a world of her own in his mint eyes. That’s when she started to sing, a familiar hymn at the back of her throat as onlookers grew silent and watched her closely to see what she’d do. Then came the piano player behind her, syncing to her song and driving home that this was a breathtaking view of the world.

The stage came alive and so did the saloon.

It was no longer a place made of dust and begotten dreams. A single voice carried the room to another realm made of life. She could feel it. She could feel the energy send shivers down her spine. Something was starting to change inside, and as her voice carried throughout the building, the more confident she felt growing.

It was unlike anything she'd ever experienced. It was euphoric. That was the only word she could use to describe the way she felt at that moment. If it was the same for the audience, she didn't know for sure. All she knew was that something felt like it had wrapped around her shoulders to protect her from any negative feelings that could have arisen. It was like a warm hug from somebody who didn't want to let go.

When she'd been singing in church, it was done out of necessity and order. It wasn't something she wanted to do for the sake of it, it was something she was taught to do because a pretty face like hers couldn't have been wasted without talent. There had to be some reason she was alive. If she didn't have any useful skills, how could they use her as a bargaining chip in marriage?

As long as she had talent, she was worth something. There was a reason for her to exist. But, when she was singing this song, it wasn't something she had to do to prove that she was worthy of being alive. It was quite the contrary. Her voice belonged to her for the first time. It didn't belong to her parents nor did it belong to god. Her song was her own. Nothing in the gospel could've compared to what she felt as the crowd hung on every word she sang.

In every sense of the word, she finally felt like she could own her identity.

She wasn't Serena Kim, promised in marriage to the preacher that'd been defiling her soul in the name of the idolatry of his inflated sense of ego.

She wasn't the Serena her parents had taken from an orphanage out of the incessant desire to have a child… a child who'd never be able to live up to their dream of having a kid who was born of their bread and butter from the very start. She was someone else. She was finally free to be who she wanted to be, and on that stage, she'd seen who she could finally be. She was more than the desires of those who wanted to own her body.

She was Rika Kim.

She was a performer who wanted to enchant the life of those who needed a smile after a hard day of blood and toil. Someone who wanted to make a difference could be somebody as small as a country girl who didn't know any better… that's what Jihyun taught her. A lesson that his mother had likely told him before she passed away. She could take that into her heart. She wasn't a wandering soul who meant nothing. She could mean something.

Rika leaned against the piano and scanned the crowd with a beckoning hand. Though it might have been a gander at the crowd, she could feel drawn with her full attention to the counter where Jihyun had eyes for her like no one else. He smiled. Something in her chest fluttered.

She waved it away despite gentle confusion burning across her hot cheeks. She could think about that feeling more, later. All she wanted to do was live in this moment and never let go. If this was what her life had been building up to, she knew that it was worth it. It didn't matter if she was still struggling to figure out what it meant to be alive, this was what it meant to be alive, she knew.

This was a calling from the Heavens.

"♫ And I saw the sky in yer' eyes.

Your sparklin' blue eyes, n' I swear I felt I could fly.

Wings of an eagle n' songs of the people.

Them skies ain’t far from yer’ eyes.

From their jeers in their lies to the blood in my eyes, they tried to clip my wings fore' I could fly.

But, yer' sparklin' blue eyes found me in them lies n’ my wings took flight n' touched the skies.

'Cause I saw God in your eyes, them sparklin' blue eyes, and I swear I'd never leave dead or alive.

Clip my wings n’ trample me now, them skies ain’t gonna down, ‘cause I know yer’ light will guide from the lies.

Ain't no man alive who can keep me from them skies. ♫”

The cheers from the crowd were electric with her big finish, hooting and hollering was enough to rock the building, and as she caught her breath, she knew that something had forever changed in this dusty saloon.

Horizon WIP Post 10

One of the mainstays of ICM culture, especially on Titan and Europa, is the fact that every city is incredibly integrated into the landscape. Respect for the land is one of the core components of ICM ideals, as the worlds they inhabit protect them from the harsh reality of the solar system. This, in their eyes, they view as culturally distinct from those who live on the Earth and Moon, who have so far mistreated their homeworlds' resources. It is true, yes, that the Earth was ravaged by disasters relating to climate change, and the moon paid the price to help power a cleaner future, but the ICM use this as a propaganda tool for the war effort, claiming that they are next on the chopping block when the resources of Earth are no longer present. Energy is something the ICM hold very near and dear, with the cities and shipyards of each of their worlds being powered by their own design of fusion reactors, adapted from the ones sent with them on the first voyages to the outer solar system. ICM technology, in the face of energy poor systems, has adapted to be hyper efficient, while sometimes struggling to maintain stealth. The Behemoth class cruiser is evidence of this, preferring a brute force but efficient method of propulsion. Xanadu Regio, the capital of the ICM territories, is marked by the 3 fusion towers that surround the city, a light in the hazy darkness to guide all of those who are lost home.

ICM cities, as opposed to the immense growth and sprawl of cities in PSSA territory, are very compact, built in verticality rather than spreading out like liquid on a flat surface. They tower over the landscape, with intersecting domes creating the appearance of bubbles that have morphed together to create a tightly controlled ecosystem. The architecture is colorful here, vibrant hues on the streets with neon lights to contrast the murky haze of the worlds outside. It is always busy on the streets here, equipment is being moved by powerloaders, great armored suits designed to haul several tons of cargo, trams are clanging their way through the narrow corridors carrying people to where they want to go. The sheer verticality of cities is evident closer to the center, where buildings topping out at hundreds of stories make up the core. Plantlife, like in PSSA off world cities, takes charge here, weaving in between buildings to establish themselves as great providers of oxygen. Here, they fight for what light is available, desperate to outcompete.

Can't believe I had to scroll all the way down to find some common sense. If you're moving out and living on your own for the first time, and assuming you at the very least have a stove in your new house/dorm (maybe even an oven)... I for the life of me cannot understand why you would purchase a damned air fryer or rice cooker before you get a microwave to heat up leaftovers (or quickly warm up a liquid that doesn't need to be boiled, like water or milk for instant coffee or something; or quickly cook up pre made food in a possible oven mode it might have; or quickly speed up defrost if it has a defrost mode; microwaves nowadays do a lot of shit for convenience, even if they do so in a mediocre manner. But you just moved out, you're looking for utility, not luxury).

When you move out, unless you have a lot of spare money, live in a place where it's extremely common for households to have a rice cooker (so: cultural factor), or you have an extremely busy life... Just make the rice on the stove. You don't need a bulky machine for it. Just use the stove. You can get a rice cooker later if you really want it. It's not an important first time living alone purchase. Rice takes ten minutes to cook unless you're cooking for a lot of people.

Air fryer? If you have an oven, or even a toaster oven, there's no reason for you to get an air fryer off the bat. Unless you're on a very specific diet that requires the type of thing an air fryer can do (or your house has no oven), I think this is... A very unnecessary and bulky purchase for when you just moved out. No one was talking about air fryers ten years ago. Hell, five years ago. You do not need this if you have an oven. Hell, I don't have an oven yet, and I do just fine without an air fryer.

Panini press grill things are cheap, I'll give you that. But let us be real. I own one of those I brough from home while moving out and 1) Most people don't use them often because they feel lazy to clean it up; and 2) is that really an important first appliance purchase? I guess you can use it as a toaster while having the benefit of it doing more than a toaster, and it is very cheap if you get a smaller sized one, but... Again. Why are we recommending a panini press before a microwave? Or a vacuum cleaner?

Again, if you're used to using a rice cooker, make a shit load of rice to eat, or have zero time to wait by the stove, sure get a rice cooker first. I was making fun of the air fryer, but if you have no oven or genuinely eat a lot of food that can be cooked in it, sure get it first. If you just haaaatee using microwaves sure heat up everything in the stove or oven. Adapt your purchases to your needs.

If you want my advice... Get your basics before you think of expensive or even medium priced appliances. Get your cleaning supplies, your kitchen pots, your towels and kitchen rags, and then think about everything listed here. Don't waste money on any of this before you have a broom and at least one frying pan and one pot for the love of god.

One of those panini press grill things (not only can you make sandwiches but you can grill chicken and steak if you have an expensive model)

Rice cooker (not only good for rice but quinoa and any other grain, alternatively you could buy an Instapot)

Kitchen appliances I would not recommend buying when you move out on your own:

Counter top coffee maker (you should not be drinking an entire pot of coffee on your own and it will be stale by the time you get to the bottom, plus these bitches suck to clean, Keurigs, French presses and stove top percolators where you make one or two cups at a time are more practical for a single person)
