Look what I've purchased - yup When the Rose Speaks its Name a Sherlock Holmes Anthology, a charity anthology showcasing queer Holmes and Watson inspired by the original Arthur Conan Doyle canon.
I can't wait to start to read it but right now I need to finish something before I do so later today :)

always equals
poem by Linda M. Crate
if a prince should come for me, i will send him away for i am a queen in pursuit of a king; someone who knows heaven isn't always easy to find but is worth having, someone who knows my flaws and accepts them along with my beauty and my virtue—someone who isn't afraid but respects my ferocity and fury, someone who knows both my tempest and my soft singing waves; someone who can withstand all my elements: fire, water, wind, earth, and void—he who can know my sarcasm and know without hestitation if it is a joke or if i'm seriously done with the situation that may arise, he who can whether my storms and my thorns; and still want me—i have met many a prince intimidated by my power, i want someone who can lift me with his gaze and remind me of my divinity and voice when i have forgotten my magic; someone with whom will support my dreams and whose dreams i can support—someone who knows i am valid and i am whole on my own: even if i am a woman, because we've never been lesser; always equals.
Linda M. Crate's poetry, short stories, articles, and reviews have been published in a myriad of magazines both online and in print. She has five published chapbooks A Mermaid Crashing Into Dawn (Fowlpox Press - June 2013), Less Than A Man (The Camel Saloon - January 2014), If Tomorrow Never Comes (Scars Publications, August 2016), My Wings Were Made to Fly (Flutter Press, September 2017), and splintered with terror (Scars Publications, January 2018), and one micro-chapbook Heaven Instead (Origami Poems Project, May 2018). She is also the author of the novel Phoenix Tears (Czykmate Books, June 2018). Read more of her work in our Hallow’s Eve issue!

anxiety teeth
the teeth of anxiety gnawing through me when you said we needed to talk nearly paralyzed me into insanity must have been plastered on my face like a statues easily read expressions for you told me not to worry which naturally only stirred up my nightmares more i really needed to know then what was going on it was the waiting that killed me always does, but you refused to give my anxiety the swift death instead stretching it out and prolonging it the way a sadistic hunter tortures their quarry for hours; finally the fangs of your hounds pierced the flesh of my rabbits until i bled openly into your palm and you said nothing. - linda m. crate

Story Time Friday: A poem from @thysilverdoe
burying you by Linda M. Crate
instead of burying the hatchet i would just like to bury you beneath the earth where the creepy crawlies sling their bodies upon the soil, and things are too deep down to grow; that way your bones can no longer cut especially not those teeth whose favorite morsel were my words fashioning them into weapons against me— people told me you were a good person i ought…

Poetry by linda crate ↔ Art by Travis Koller

a war against our bodies and our
rights to make decisions regarding
our own health
because birth control isn’t only
used to prevent pregnancies
in case you weren’t aware,
and for those of you that don’t need a
march
i’m so glad that you’re entitled to your
rights and are in a position where
you could never be hurt;
but i fight for…

Christmas Contest: Poetry 2nd Place
Christmas Contest: Poetry 2nd Place
in our hearts
all the children
with eyes
shining like ornaments
  eagerly anticipating
a man in a red suit
to grant their christmas wishes,
  and all the reindeer
landing on the roof and the cookies
and milk left out for santa;
every song i used to listen to
a new thing to their ears
every snowflake a promise of tomorrow—
soon christmas eve will fade away
leaving christmas behind in its wake…

“i am dropping you in the creek where you can wash away forever, all your contempt and your scorn; i can still see it in the sirens in your eyes that i once mistook for mermaids“
