This is a Doug Ramsey appreciation post for his very early adventures with the New Mutants

"Hey wake up, it's me your friend Sam, I'm a mutant, you're a mutant too, now can you help our team of teenagers to establish communications with an apparently hostile alien form?" – and that's how Doug learned about his powers...

This time he helps saving the day by being able to communicate with Warlock and uncovering his intentions, helping the technarch alien who would become his best friend

How vulnerable he was aware of being, but how this would not preclude him from helping his teammates the best way he could:

His mutant abilities are underrated because they're not battle oriented, he's capable of understanding every language in the universe, he can decipher codes and computer languages, understand hidden intentions and body language. (This is early Doug Ramsey, he's not even a member of an X-team yet, his powers would change and evolve a lot during the years)

He exemplifies how not every mutant will have fighting powers/skills, Forge is also an example of that (of the time), but Doug is even more interesting because his powers don't need to translate to a tangible object, it's purely intellectual, and it's fascinating to me

It all comes down to this. After all the backlash from anti-mutant bigots who tried to sabotage her concerts and news propaganda trying to villainize her, all of which led to low attendance and cancelled shows. Yet Dazzler still goes on with making her final concert tour to New York. At the Grand Garden Arena of New York City, Dazzler gains support from not only the mutants; the others who support her are Mayor Luke Cage, Stevie Hunter the congresswoman and some of the Pro-Dazzler humans. Dazzler is allowed to perform the concert in New York as approved by Mayor Luke Cage and Congresswoman Stevie Hunter. Several hours later, Dazzler is in the backstage, getting ready for her concert when she is approached by not only her new boyfriend, she is also approached by Kamala Khan, Laura Kinney, Sophie Cuckoo, Anole, Prodigy and his new boyfriend. Kamala and her friends have come in to greet her as well as they are volunteering to keep an eye on any disruption happening to her concert. Just before the concert, their computer systems get hacked by someone; leaving Domino, Multiple Man and the dupes to reboot the systems back online.

Moments later, Dazzler goes onto the stage to perform her show. At first, it seems to go well until a huge cyborg interrupts her concert. As the cyborg silences everyone by absorbing the sound around them, Since Dazzler is unable to absorb the sound for her light powers, she and the mutants are left at mercy of the cyborg. Despite the silence around them, the mutants kept fighting the cyborg. While Kamala and others are distracting the cyborg, Domino encourages Dazzler to fight back by listening to the humming from the cyborg so that she could use her light powers to take down the cyborg. Thanks to Domino's quick-thinking and the teamwork from other mutants, Dazzler manages to defeat the cyborg. Also, the crowd of mutants and humans cheer and applaud for Dazzler's heroism.

The X-Men of Marvel Illustrated

Yeah, yeah, I know. This one is much less male gaze-y than the swimsuit special and has hilarious ads. I think it was a warm-up for the Swimsuit Special tbh.

Lila Cheney joins a Dazzler show as a special guest, with Cats Laughing supporting. Kitty's having fun.

Festival gig! There's Wolverine on the left with (maybe) Ilyana. Maybe Colossus and Jean or Rachel on the right. A lot of mohawks around - anybody know what that's about?

Polaris and She-Hulk embracing green solidarity is cool, if a little tenuous.

Storm is... flying around with dinosaurs.

Not sure about this. I have to assume Boom Boom is over 18 or she wouldn't be here getting leered at, but I wouldn't put it past either Marvel or Liefield. Cable, you're like 100, what are you doing? Cannonball looks more taken with Tabby's behind than Rictor does. I wonder why.

Cowards! I wanna see Cable in a leopard print string bikini. Very 90s 'humor.' Why does he have a gun as tall as Jubes? Because he's Cable I guess. At least the girls are having fun.

Rachel, Psylocke, Dazzler and Kitty Pryde (plus Lockheed ofc) just kicking it at a waterfall. Rachel is checking out Kitty.

The White Queen and a bunch of villains I don't care about. Viper bought a gun along too, and Emma doesn't need one. This is pretty close to her usual clothes.

Lastly, an advertisement for the Yellow Pages featuring Magneto, lol. Cape game immaculate, as usual. I like to imagine that this is real in universe. Like he walked into wherever and said 'I want to be in a magazine. Make it so or feel the wrath of the master of Magnetism etc.' There's a lot going on here, but primarily Mags being as dramatic as possible.

They're a a bit of a rare pair in the main comics universe, but those two thieves have some good unexpected chemistry in Gambit's most recent solo (2022). Their main romance is in the series Age of Apocalypse where they are a Robin Hood and Maid Marian couple. Gambit gets good development by sacrificing his unrequited love for Rogue to save Lila whom he is willing to die with and Lila in turn is very protective of him even without her mutant powers and Gambit had feelings for her even before she turned out to be a mutant like him.
