Lyssa gripped her bottle and drank. Viren swallowed his fingers tapping onto his leg.

"Maybe it doesn't mean what we think -"

"Either Nyktos killed our mother's mate and took her. Or he didn't and just killed our father and kept our mother a prisoner."

Lyssa said lowered her bottle. Keir frowned ever quick to give their mother agency.

"She wouldn't have let him -"

Lyssa reached for the second memory and activated it.

This one felt new, felt like it had never been watched.

The scenes were too crisp, too vibrant. They hadn't dulled with age.

"Eythos!"

The view shifted, the emotions coming off him was light.

Nyktos looked young, happy.

"Nyk. I was beginning to think you weren't going to leave your bed chamber. Or do you call it a nest?"

Nyktos grinned at him and walked with him through the construction. He looked from Eythos to the building, fingers moving over the beasts and drawings.

"You're actually building it."

Eythos scoffed and the memory switched. Lyssa felt herself gasp as she saw Eythos for the firsr time. She could pick up features, the tilt of his smile in Keir's lips. The sparkle in his eyes so like Viren's. The nose and swagger so like her.

"Of course I am. I told you this will be a place for dreams. And I want to reunite the Asteri and Stelari. I want the Stelari to have a place of their own."

He looked at the hallway they were in leaning back against the wall. The rings on his fingers shining, but he didn't hold himself with arrogance. He held himself with a lightness she didn't think anyone in Night had.

Nyktos voice was laced with caution.

"Your brother worries about the precedent this will set. He thinks Changelings -"

"Don't call yourselves that. You are Stelari. You hold the right to that name Nyktos regardless what that past came to be."

Eythos dropped his hand moving to squeeze his hand. He shrugged, running a hand through his hair.

"Besides this is my court not Em's. Stop glowering at me Nyktos you're too cute for that."

Nyktos rolled his eyes but let Eythos move away and followed.

"You don't think this will end in bloodshed?"

"You act like war in inevitable."

"It is."

Eythos sighed and turned back to look at Nyktos.

"You and Nyxia see this world as a war that will always be waged. That the world will fall apart is a given. I hope I can make a place where you can let that notion go."

Eythos turned away and wandered from the construction of the halls to a garden. He stood on the edges and looked to Nyktos.

"Thoughts? Anything I should move?"

Nyktos snorted at him, the memory shifting. Lyssa wished she could have cried out. She didn't want to see Nyktos face. She wanted to see her father's! She wanted to get to know this male she felt she'd already met.

"That isn't how my powers work Eythos."

The vision tilted as if Eythos was tilting his head.

"Stelari don't hear the music of the world? Or the way the plants suffer from being harvested?"

Nyktos glanced at him.

"If we heard the suffering of every living creature we would be incapacitated. Why is there a garden in the middle of a mountain anyway?"

Eythos voice was a smile as he looked to Nyktos.

"I wanted to surprise Nyxi with it. She keeps saying nothing will grow in a mountain and I wanted to prove her wrong. I found an underwater lake to feed it. Don't worry I didn't reroute anything."

Nyktos smirked.

"Must have been hard for those Asteri instincts. You all like to fuck with everything."

"Not -"

Eythos turned grabbed a small bluring thing. Lyssa felt tears roll down her cheeks. She always known hadn't she? Eythos beamed at her, a memory unlocked overtop the one she couldn't see.

"My Lyssa. You shouldn't run here."

Nyktos shook his head at Eythos.

"You allowed them here?"

"No, but then little Lyssa is an escape artist aren't you? I should get her back to the nursery before Nyxia realizes this one is gone."

Nytkos grinned and went to follow.

"The real threat is when her brothers realize she's gone."

Eythos turned to respond but something flickered. He stiffened she remembered. He held her tighter. She hadn't realized the memory was shifting, she was letting the Momento Morii dig into her.

Eythos looked past Nytkos.

"Did you see anything?"

Nytkos reached for his blade and turned.

"No. I didn't -"

The ground exploded. And Eythos shielded Lyssa as best as he could. Vanth stepped through the rubble. He glared at his son and ignored Eythos.

"You had one job boy. Take Night. And you couldn't even do that."

Eythos gritted his teeth. He looked to Lyssa, her big eyes wide. She didn't cry, of course she didn't. She was strong like her mother. Eythos looked to his friend hoping he'd fight but he could feel Nyktos's fear in the air.

All the those stories he'd heard of that male flew through his head. The ironclad hold he had on his family. On Nyktos's mother who he didn't even want to think of. How did she survive the world Vanth had made?

Was she even aware of the world or had Vanth buried his magic so deep into to keep her disconnected from the world.

Nyktos stepped backward his grip on his sword slacking.

"They know. He -"

Vanth lunged slicing at Nyktos's blade. He nearly cut it in half. Lyssa was shaking but his firend was going to die like this.

They'd never get any answers like this. He exhaled and set Lyssa down. He looked to his baby girl gripping her chin.

"Close your eyes Lyssa. No matter what you hear you close your eyes till you hear Mama okay?"

He turned from her nod and grabbed his blade stepping between them. Vanth snarled at him, his children pressing closer.

"My quarrel isn't with you Asteri. This doesn't concern you. Move."

He shook his head stepping between them. He turned to look at Nyktos.

"Remember who this court is for. Do not forget to -"

He didn't turn back in time, Vanth's blade swung through his neck. Lyssa hoped that meant it was over. That they would be released. But Nyktos snarled and sprang at the other male.

He slammed it into his chest. The Changeling King only laughed dragging him closer. Lyssa didn't know how she knew but she did this one was deranged. He fed on his children, on the ones who were marked with royalty.

"You can't stop me."

Nyktos sneered and looked back to his siblings.

"Not alone. Don't you all want to be free? Don't you want to rule and bring honor back to our blood?"

The male holding Nyktos snarled as one of her aunts cut at his leg and another at his shoulder. Nyktos helped hold the male down and bound him in the garden. The plants trampled and broken. The ground soaked with the blood of Asteri and Stelari. A place of beauty marred irrevocably.

Nyktos held the Changeling down as he was bound and buried in this garden.

"I didn't just not do as you said father. I bound myself to him. I became a Stelari just like mother was. I'll always be more her son than yours. I will not continue the violence you started."

The older Changeling only laughed and sneered at him. His eyes blood shot and vibrant.

"You say that now boy. This world will break you and you will free me one day. You'll beg at my feet for my aid and wisdom....As for your mother I'd hurry to save her. Before she wastes away without me like I programmed her to. Stelari are slaves and I will not my people be enslaved any longer."

Keir stared at the Momento Morii. He'd found them going through the treasury in Hewn. He shrugged it would either be something heartbreakingly devastating or something violent - probably both.

Keir walked back to where his twins were drinking, Iris sat perched on his armchair. Sarai and Orcus were discussing some political issue. It was always a surprise to everyone who met Orcus that he wasn't as violent as his reputation made him to be.

Viren and Lyssa looked up from their chess game.

"What did you find?"

Keir held up the Memento Morii with his fingers and grinned.

"Something fun."

Viren stood grabbing the hard liquor.

"This is going to fun."

Lyssa grinned and leaned into Orcus knees where she sat on the floor.

"Let's home. Either way we can get black out drunk."

The memory was hazy, old, as if it had played again and again till it was stretched and warped. But the words were clear. Keir wondered if Iris could feel the emotions coming from the memory. He made a mental note to ask her later.

"And what will this one be named?"

The voice made him jump. It reminded him of something. But the memory continued and he could stop it even if he wanted to.

The figure moved toward the bed and looked to the female in it. His blood went cold and he exhaled.

So it was going to be a heartbreakingly devastating one.

Nyxia grinned up at him reaching for his hand. She looked so youthful, so at peace.

"You name him Eythos. I named Ignatius."

Eythos. Eythos?

Eythos -

Eythos view turned from Nyxia to the bassent by the window. The breeze blowing into the room was nice, smelled of jasmine and honeysuckle. Keir tried to scan the room, to see what he could from this vantage point.

But the view was distorted, smuged like ink mixed with water. But the direct sight was fine. And Eythos moved his fingers over the sleeping baby. His personal signet ring showed three stars.

Keir didn't have time to detangle any of that because Eythos confirmed what he'd feared.

"Acacius. He looks so innocent like this Nyxia don't you think?"

This was the danger when you started playing with Momento Mori you didn't know the origin of, especially those found in the treasury of your own home. The hidden secrets, the skeletons that families hide away and tried their best to forget. Haunting of another time and place, truths you didn't know if you had wanted to face.

Iris had felt a coldness seep into her very core, the moment she felt the memory was going the way it was she completely detached herself and shut down. Reliving painful memories were not something she enjoyed, especially when you factored in the close personal connections.

Her blue eyes looked across the room towards the raven-haired female who now sat up tall, her own violet eyes slightly widened as a heavy realization also hit her too. The two of them shared a knowing look, in the moments the memory has played she watched the smile slip from her friend's face as she turned and focused upon her own mate.

Hel. How would the three of them react to this? Waiting for the memory to end felt like torture, but it soon did. Iris reached to take a hold of Keir's hand, her own powers reaching out to soothe him.

Sarai had already tapped at Viren's mind before the memory had come to the end, gently easing herself inside as she whispered gentle words of comfort. Once the memory had ended she moved closer to him, her fingers lacing between his own.

"What in Mother's Hel was there?" Orcus exclaimed as he looked between them all. It was a question that hung heavy in the air.
