11 reasons why cap 4 should reintroduce Bucky Barnes as the love interest, an essay
to start this off, i am not writing this essay from a shipping place nor do i believe that this would have any influence at all over the upcoming movie. i expect nothing. this is simply something that i would personally like to see. (of course no hate to anybody who thinks differently)
here are 11 reasons why i think making Bucky into Sam Wilson's love interest in Cap 4 would be a good move for Disney.
-
1. on the Chinese film market - and why it's an irrelevant argument against the inclusion of homosexual themes in Cap 4
the Chinese film market is something that has been blamed for a lack of diversity in Hollywood films a lot lately. many people claim that this market with a lot of buying power has been responsible for the lack of gay and black representation in particular within Hollywood films.
and we have certainly seen Hollywood treating it as such, going so far as to cut gay scenes from movies for their Chinese releases, and vastly minimising John Boyega's (a black actor's) presence in the Chinese poster of Star Wars The Force Awakens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image ID: on the left is an image of the American poster for Star Wars The Force Awakens, featuring John Boyega prominently on the right-hand side. And on the right is the Chinese poster for the same movie, in which John Boyega is barely visible.]
so we know at the very least that Disney believes this through their own actions and efforts to self-censor for the different markets.
but Captain America 4 is a black-led movie, don't you forget. and Disney can't minimise Sam Wilson/Anthony Mackie in the movie or the poster because it's his movie and his poster. and no amount of creativity in the editing room can change that (thank God!).
so if by their own argument the film is already going to be either banned, panned or slammed in China... then what do they have to fear from making it a gay movie too?
-
2. oh, the queerbaiting
queerbaiting is an unusual cultural idea. and sometimes i find myself thinking that the term is far too easily used, but then all of a sudden i will stumble upon a movie or show that is so quintessentially cruel and overt in it's... well... queerbaiting that i will start to wonder what the hell kind of a bizarre relationship all these straight people seem to have with their friends. take Troy and Abed from Community or John and Sherlock from Sherlock as the perfect examples of this. (in which my reaction to the show's creators saying the show wasn't gay was to ask so then why did you make it so gay?!)
i felt that Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in tfatws were getting quite close to this level of queerbaiting.
there was the field scene, the couple's counselling scene, the boat scene, the couple's counselling scene, Bucky going with Sam to face Karli when she told Sam to come alone, the couple's counselling scene, ALL the staring scenes, Sam checking out Bucky's ass here as they said goodbye, the "i would move in with him but" hidden scene, "Uncle Bucky" showing up at the cookout scene, the romantic walking off together into the sunset together ending scene, and the couple's counselling scene. did i forget anything? but i mean seriously, the couple's counselling scene!!! that thing they did with their legs and their crotches while staring deep into each other's eyes, would any straight guy willingly do that? do straight guys crotch-snuggle now?
Tumblr media
[image ID: an image of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes during the therapy scene with the quote, "Isn't anybody going to drag me into impromptu couple's therapy and slot my legs firmly between theirs before staring deeply into my eyes?"]
(yeah i stole this image from a buzzfeed article on the fan reactions to the couple's therapy scene. but given that they stole 80% of the content of that article from fandom tumblr, i think it's pretty even-steven.)
there's also the fact that people started talking about bisexual Bucky Barnes a lot after the tiger pictures line, and the lead writer Malcom Spellman responded to the talk of Bucky's bisexuality with "just keep watching". well we watched, Malcolm. but it's beginning to feel like you were just jerking us around.
-
3. the writing
seriously though, what else is Bucky Barnes doing right now in the MCU? his only remaining connection to anything going on right now is through Sam. there is literally nothing else established that's left for him to do that doesn't involve Sam. he moved to Louisiana to be closer to Sam (canonically), he hangs out with Sam's family (canonically), and Steve is presumably gone and is definitely not coming back for more adventures.
he has no villains or loose ends left. he has no other superheroes that he appears to be in contact with. he has no girlfriend or potential love interest, or even other friends or family. he is living in a tent that he has secretly set up in Sam's backyard and is mysteriously appearing from the bushes when it's time for dinner like a stray cat.
in my opinion there is no other meaningful and pre-established progression for Bucky's character that wouldn't just feel cheap.
plus, i don't think the general audience would be all that surprised if they kissed. i think a LOT of people picked up on all that tension. i think a lot of straight people picked up on all that tension too.
Tumblr media
-
4. the chemistry between the actors & the chemistry between the characters
the original pitch for tfatws was essentially just this, it was the chemistry between Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie and their respective MCU characters of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson.
now obviously Anthony and Sebastian are simply friends, and i wouldn't mean to imply anything more. but they are also not their characters.
Sam and Bucky's scenes together before tfatws were both limited and short, and yet audiences still fell in love with the dynamic between the two characters.
Tumblr media
in interviews, these two actors are constantly slipping into character and flirting with each other and frankly it's adorable. plus it's really entertaining. i'd love to see that dynamic, unfiltered, in a movie.
because believe it or not the flirting is actually even more open in their interviews than it was in tfatws. and i'm leaving some links as proof.
this here is known as the "married" compilation
and here's a "lucky dip" selection of interviews - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
and here's Anthony trying to get Seb to take his jacket off.
i'm just saying, why not let their chemistry shine? these two are so talented and so entertaining, especially when you put them in a room together. and can you imagine how absolutely hilarious and brilliant it would be to watch them navigate being a couple?
(and for those who bring up the "friends would be uncomfortable pretending to be dating" argument, i'm not here asking for a sex scene or anything. i don't think anyone would expect them to show any more intimacy (physical or emotional) while playing a couple than what they've already shown together in say... tfatws or in their own interviews. not that i actually expect anything regardless.)
-
5. if they were a man and a woman they would've gotten together in tfatws
i have no more to add here. just that... yeah, they would've.
-
6. and i'm not talking about the comics here, i'm talking about the MCU.
i understand fully that none of what i'm saying here falls in line with these characters from the comics. but the mcu itself doesn't fall much in line with the comics either, and these two characters especially are very different from their comics counterparts.
i'm not asking for these two to get together in the comics. tbh i don't think that it would work.
but the mcu Sam and Bucky are different and closer than their comics counterparts. they've got different histories, different backstories, and a very different dynamic. please rest assured that i am only talking about them in the mcu.
-
7. Bucky Barnes is believably bisexual. and Sam Wilson has never been proven to be straight in the mcu, nor has he had a love interest.
(now please continue to keep in mind that these points only stand for the mcu versions of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson, and not at all for their comics counterparts.)
Sam Wilson has never had a love interest, which is crazy because have you seen that man! he has had two blink and you'll miss it moments of verbal expression of attraction to women, both in TWS. and that's the extent of it, through his entire history in the mcu.
Bucky Barnes has had a number of surface-level female love interests, but none of them even came close to the level of connection and chemistry that Bucky shares with Sam.
and i'm sorry SarahBucky fans, but i just don't think there's very much to their relationship either. i love Sarah, i really do. but it's Sam who shares all the meaningful moments and history and chemistry with Bucky. and i don't see what making her into a love interest would do for Sarah's character either, what would that add to her story?
Tumblr media
[Picture ID: Bucky at the cookout with Sam, Sarah, Cass and AJ. Bucky and Sam are looking at each other and smiling.]
and also there is the whole tiger pictures thing... again. which does strongly suggest that Bucky is bisexual whether this was intentional on behalf of the writers or not.
-
8. it's representation... AND it feels natural
marvel hasn't had a lot of queer representation that's been noticeably present in the MCU at the time of writing this.
there have been a lot of failures so far, from the bisexual erasure of Valkyrie in Thor Ragnarok to the wlw erasure in Black Panther.
there was queerbaiting almost identical to the bisexual Bucky baiting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. when asked if he had considered featuring a gay hero in gotg2, director James Gunn stated that "We might have already done that. I say, watch the movie." after the movie's release audiences were understandably confused about the lack of queer representation. To which the director followed up his comments with, "But we don't really know who's gay and who's not. It could be any of them."
there is also Loki, considered by most fans after the airing of his six episode series on Disney+ to be both a poor attempt at both genderfluid representation and bisexual representation. with both attempts being summed up fairly well by the term "blink-and-you'll-miss-it". (also it's just terribly written and Loki doesn't wear any interesting clothes! fanficcers are a Goddamn blessing in this hard time!)
Tumblr media
and let us not forget that Andrew Garfield was apparently FIRED for pushing for a bisexual spiderman. a bisexual spiderman within an interracial mlm relationship no less.
so for all these failures, marvel, why not allow us queer fans this? two brilliant and heroic men in a loving interracial relationship. two heroes that we can look up to.
now, one of the biggest detractions from the argument for representation is the idea of "forced diversity". and some poorly written characters certainly do end up feeling forced into the narrative. take Iceman in the comics for example, with Jean Grey just straight up suddenly telling him he's gay. like, marvel, sweetie, that's not how this works! and i don't know a lot of queer people who thought much of that "representation".
but the crux of the "forced diversity" argument is almost always that it feels unnatural within the story, right? and i don't think that anyone could say that about MCU Sam and Bucky ending up together, given these characters' existing chemistry and their history. they've both played characters in gay relationships before so we know that it's not outside of either actor's wheelhouse. and y'all know that Anthony and Seb can act, people. if it's in the script i believe that they'll make it seem like the most natural thing on earth.
-
9. it'd be a nice change
there's been an ongoing meme lately about "Disney's first gay character", the joke being that they continually announce gay characters without really ever including gay characters in their films.
this is to the point where Disney has formed a reputation amongst queer audiences of being homophobic.
if Sam and Bucky were to become a couple, then Disney could have its first actual gay character within a gay relationship. AND have him be in the lead of his own movie, no less.
it's also worth keeping in mind that there's likely an overlap between the people who were outraged by a Sam Wilson Captain America, and the people who'd be outraged by a gay Captain America. and if they were already not seeing the film, then i don't think much is gonna change that.
queer audiences would definitely love it, and the media attention would be guaranteed to be huge. i mean, simply look at the amount of media attention mere rumours of a character's queerness gets you and multiply that by a canon confirmation of said rumours.
but i'm pretty sure that Disney already knows this.
Tumblr media
-
10. and yet, in truth, it's not about the representation
in truth i've never felt that i had any trouble relating to characters of any sexual orientation, race, gender, sex, body type, etc. (although that is not to throw any shade at all on people who do wish to see themselves represented) but for me, i think it's more about the story than the packaging.
and yet, a love story is still just a story. straight or queer, monoethnic or interracial. when two characters have chemistry and history and have sacrificed for each other time and time again, and they also can't keep their hands or their eyes off each other, then i'm pretty sure that that's a love story.
Tumblr media
straight or queer, monoethnic or interracial, it shouldn't be about these simple labels. it should be about how well written the relationship is. it should be about chemistry, and history, and sacrifice.
because i'm fucking sick of all the hollow, forced romances in media no matter the genders of the participants. i'm sick of lazily written, shallow relationships where any two people sharing the same space for any extended period of time will simply fall in love. it's boring, it's repetitive, and as a writer myself it drives me up the wall!
romance stories suck! and everyone knows that romance stories suck. between twilight, and most of the entire YA genre, and love triangles (so boring), and romance used as poorly-written throwaway subplots in Hollywood movies, the world is in agreement that the romance in western media is simply dreadful. and yet we still want love stories. it's an entire genre that sits at the heart of the human experience (<3), and yet one which so few of today's best known writers seem truly able to capture.
i don't think that i'm the only one who feels this way, either. i suspect it's actually a large part of why fandom is so romance-centred in the first place, that we're all just starving for a good love story.
(btw i think fandom has a reputation for being something that as a whole that it is not. it has this reputation for straight up demanding things and harassing people until they get their way. while unfortunately there are a few people who do this, they're fucking annoying and i swear that they're far from the majority.
in my experience fandom is mostly about writing a five thousand word story at three am while drunk off your ass because it might make someone whom you've never met smile, editing it in the cold light of day, and then posting it. expecting nothing. sometimes getting nothing. and sometimes getting someone send you kudos or a comment so heartbreakingly wonderful that it makes you smile in return.)
-
11. so once again, it is all about the writing.
i want to see Sam and Bucky get together in the mcu, not because they would be a gay couple but because i genuinely believe that their story has potential to be an amazing love story.
and i know the mcu isn't about the romance. it's why in my personal opinion we haven't gotten a lot of good canon romances besides Peter Quill and Gamora. and i don't think that the mcu should be all about the romance either. i fucking love the action and the fighting scenes. i love the comedy. Captain America: The Winter Soldier had no romance and it was a fucking treasure, it was an amazing spy-action-thriller and it made my little gay heart dance. Thor Ragnarok had no romance, and it was an utterly brilliant comedic spectacle action film. not every movie needs romance.
Tumblr media
but mcu Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes were doing couple's therapy and fixing a boat and walking off into the sunset together in tfatws. they were inseparable on the battlefield. they've got a dynamic. it's beautiful, it's romantic, and it's gold.
a budding relationship between them in the next movie would be a good way to explore both characters more without the narrative feeling too stilted and separate. at the end of tfatws, both Sam and Bucky fans found that their respective fave felt somewhat underutilised and that their characters were underexplored.
now, that problem would be even more difficult to remedy in a movie, because the plotline of a movie needs to be really tight to work (giggity). and we know that the central conflict of the movie is gonna be action-based (which is good), but we still need each character's personal journey and growth to tie into the main conflict. (which is another issue that some fans found with tfatws, that these characters didn't really feel connected to the action-based plot on a more personal level.)
if Sam and Bucky are already in a relationship, however, this whole dynamic changes. first, their relationship has already been set up for nicely since TWS and through tfatws and they would officially be the best-fleshed-out couple in the mcu. but most importantly, a relationship gives them a perfect vehicle to explore both of their pasts comparatively and connect them personally to the action-based plot.
do you want to establish that Sam is a little too trusting and naïve? then establish this through his relationship with Bucky, and through showing his placing his trust in Bucky. (rather than through having him sympathise with a villain who threatened to murder his sister and his nephews).
perhaps you want to show Bucky recovering from his trauma? show us how comfortable he is with Sam. they get along, they're enjoying each other's presence, we see more of Sam's life and of his family, and then let Bucky tell Sam something that's raw and dark and honest about his life as The Winter Soldier. something about a memory, one that he only just recalled. he's opening up. and maybe what he tells Sam is even something that sets up the future action-based conflict, to ground that in something real.
you want to explore that Sam has trauma too? do this through Bucky. he tells Bucky a story about his time in the military. in the form of a flashback, he shares his own story of loss to evoke before the audience the shared theme of feeling at fault even when you're simply a helpless bystander to an act of pure destruction.
then, action sequence! and it's directly connected to Bucky's time as the Winter Soldier. explore the grief of someone whose life the Winter Soldier tore apart manifesting into a villain perpetuating the cycle of pain. establish your villain.
Later, Sam is dragged into battle against this villain for protecting Bucky. But Bucky doesn't want Sam to protect him. He feels guilt for what he can't control and he doesn't want Sam getting hurt because of him. Bucky reminds Sam that he has a family, one who needs him and who loves him. He tells him to go home.
Sam reminds Bucky that he's a part of that family. And that sure Sam's a hero and his job is to protect anyone and everyone, but that he's doing it because he wants to. It's not simply to prove that he can, or to prove that he's not a bystander (this connects to Sam's trauma here), but that he's doing it to help people.
and this gets Bucky thinking about who he is and what he's doing here. is he a hero who stands by Sam's side? or is he an ordinary man who stands aside? or perhaps, does he stand alone? what does he stand for? Maybe Sam knows. But does Bucky?
Sam and Bucky fight off the villain again, and for the first time Bucky meets this adversary face to face. And Bucky recognises this villain, and has a flashback to the genuine pain that he inflicted upon them in the form of the Winter Soldier. Bucky freezes mid-fight, he almost dies, and Sam has to save him.
Sam chews Bucky out for almost getting killed because he was afraid for him. but Bucky takes this the wrong way and goes off to fight the villain alone, or perhaps to die alone, he's not quite sure.
He puts up a half-hearted fight. He apologises for what the Winter Soldier has done, and he waits for the killing blow, when Sam swoops down and he saves him. He asks Sam why he saved him and Sam calls him a moron. And then, Sam asks him what sacrificing himself would solve. He tells him that you can't choose your past but you can choose your future (connecting to his own experience of loss and guilt and grief). And that no matter what Bucky Barnes still has a future, whether that's as the Winter Soldier or the White Wolf or just some dork with a day job. And that he has a future as a part of Sam's family too.
Sam fights the villain, and it's toe to toe. He delivers a few good blows, but receives a fair few himself. And then the villain tears off his wings, first one and then the other, in a manner reminiscent of what the Winter Soldier did to him in TWS. Through Bucky's eyes there's a flashback to highlight the parallels. Sam gets back on his feet and he fights his best fight, but is now losing.
And then the heavily injured Bucky steps up and fights by Sam's side, and only together do they take down the villain.
"So... I inspired you, huh?" Sam teases with a smile, utterly exhausted. "With my heroism and-"
"You inspired me." Bucky said, equally exhausted. "Let's leave it at that."
Together, Sam and Bucky go back to the safety and warmth of their family. Sam fixes his wings. Sam goes back to being Captain America. And Bucky... he's around, but it's unclear what he's doing.
That is, until the very end. When Sam is in a fight, and suddenly Bucky shows up and helps him out.
"What are you doing here?" Sam asks.
"I've made up my mind." Bucky says. "I'm the Winter Soldier. But now I'll save lives, Sam. Now, like you, I'll be a hero."
Sam smirks. "So does this make you my sidekick, then?"
Bucky smiles. "C'mon, at least make me a partner." He says.
"How about co-workers." Sam says (in flashback, he remembers back to the death of his last on-the-job partner).
"How about friends." Bucky says, with a wry look.
"Bucky... I don't want to see you put your dumbass self in danger." Sam says.
"Oh, and it's ok for you to go running off into danger on your own all the time?" Bucky asks.
"Yes." Sam says stubbornly. "Absolutely it is."
"Why?"
"Because I'm not a dumbass?!"
"Sam, if you think I'm not gonna be watching your back for the rest of time... then you're the biggest dumbass I know. And I don't care if you need me or not, I will be there for you."
"Because Sam, you're more than Captain America. You're more than a good soldier. You're a good man. And I think sometimes, the world forgets what the difference is."
-
...or something like that.
(i only spent like 15 minutes on that. you know if i were actually writing this movie i would come up with something much better. and if anyone from marvel is seeing this, yes i can come work for you. i will make the time, let's do this thing right!)
-
finale
at the end of the day, whether or not the mcu chooses to make Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes a couple, it's their decision. and they don't owe me anything.
i'm just some random person on the internet. who thinks that Captain America 4 should #givecaptainamericaaboyfriend

ᴀᴜᴛʜᴏʀ ꜱᴘᴇᴀᴋꜱ ➢ wanted to start this idea but never got to write it, hope it gets love since it was fun to write and i just enjoyed it in general
Tumblr media
every time you and the cast would wrap up a movie was great because it meant you guys would have interviews and press tours to attend. for you, the games and trivia games were the ones you all really enjoyed because it just would be chaotic.
still it would a great time, you got along with everyone so no drama would surround you guys which was a good thing when you work with other actors. when you first started working with marvel, you hit it off with mackie at first, during captain america: the winter soldier.
your publicist makes sure you had time to move things around so that you could make it the live event with the rest of the cast.
you and sebastian were together but didn’t live with each other since you two were still waiting for the right time to move in together. anthony would tease you guys, saying you’re both married but not being committed. all jokes aside, you two did love each other but time would take it’s course and you would be happy soon enough.
when you arrived surrounding to the Los Angeles press junket, you met a few co-stars back stage. obviously you saw all the girls—with you adored. when you saw your boyfriend, you ran sneakily behind him before scaring him slightly. he jumped back from his seat where he was talking to anthony and letitia about something.
anthony looked up seeing your face, “you finally showed up. he was getting worried.” he chuckled before getting up to hug you while you hugged back letting go to see letitia and greet her as well. you turned to sebastian seeing that he was wearing something remotely similar to your outfit.
he wore a black and white stripped jacket which you wore one like that but it was a tad different with a matching skirt. he eyes you up and down seeing what you were wearing this time, letitia gawked at the couple matching even if it was accidentally. “you guys look so cute.” she squealed rapidly pointing at both of them as they both chuckled.
anthony hummed, “huh. what’s up with matchy matchy?” he questioned them as sebastian shrugged honestly not getting how they would of done that. the man obviously thought she looked gorgeous in that skirt and jacket so it didn’t bother him at all. “i think you look beautiful.” he admired you as you blushed and buried your head in his crock of his neck while thanking him.
anthony rolled his eyes until the russo brothers came telling everyone that it was time to start the family feud game and start the live broadcast. you walked towards everyone, where the russo brothers went to place you all in teams: blue vs purple.
anthony and joe did anything to keep mackie and seb from the opposite teams to not create that much chaos or to create it which didn’t matter. you went on the blue team with chris, scarlett, letitia, anthony and bautista. then the red team consisting with benedict, zoe, mark, chris hemsworth, pom and sebastian.
you greeted your team waiting for them to start as you made small talk with anthony and dave as you were in the middle of both of them. once the russo’s started—it was all chaotic from that point. “why don’t the blue team introduce themselves.” joe spoke looking at the blue team.
everyone from the team would get and when it got you mackie, he just was being a fool but so hilarious whenever he spoke. “i’m anthony mackie, i’m a libra.” bringing up his sign for anyone. “I’m y/n y/l/n.” you would smile when it would get to you.
the other team would do the same, then making the russo’s to explain how the game would work and all the rules. once you all got the hang of it, chris and zoe ended up being the first ones to make it and compete against each other. “which infinity war character would put on the best concert?”
zoe getting it first because pratt was slow, said his character which she got right being the first one on the answer board. benedict would repeat zoe’s answer not understanding the concept of family feud as the whole blue team would tease him on that. “good answer!” anthony laughed making you look up and chuckle as he defended himself.
“i’m english! whoa, stop.” joe explained it the english man and he looked relieved after he got the idea, getting the right answer again. when it got to sebastian he said dr. strange and got it correct then getting close to three strikes when it was at zoe.
the russo’s giving out clues and hints didn’t make the blue team wasn’t pleased because it was too easy for them. “what! you cheatin, you think steve harvey would give a hint?” chris would yell out to joe then you would agree with him. them all laughing at chris getting annoyed but not in a serious manner.
you would see that they would go and talk and you stopped them as they weren’t exactly playing the right way. “wait? you guys can’t confirm.” you spoke up pointing at zoe trying to talk to pom and the rest of her team. joe would confirm that, that would be true.
zoe trying to get another clue but the blue team interfering with her telling her no more clues. “okay, you know what. basta. i’m going to say rocket.” when her and benedict got them wrong it would be time for the blue team to steal.
chris would pull you guys together to confirm he answer but mackie kept repeating where their clue was—you would remind him that you thought that was the clue. “what? no, that’s their clue! who producing this?” you would look over to see them talking about who to pick. “well if it’s a guardian... then who did we already say? we said drax, already said star lord, we said rocket. so groot?” you implied.
letitia nodded when chris still wasn’t sure if that was the answer looking at the camera trying to get an answer from the fans. “feed me the answer. mackie says it groot but i don’t trust mackie—yes, you do!” mackie would say.
“i say trust him—thank you!” you would say making anthony hugging you when sebastian would glare at him making him laugh out loud looking back at him. letting go and telling joe that, they picked groot for the answer. “do they say groot for the win?” joe asked making the board ding causing the blue team to cheer for the win that they just got.
the next question being who would they take to prom... as letitia would take your answer, you’d have to figure on out when make chose his answer. “as much as i don’t like him. and his great hair.. uh bucky.” anthony paused. obviously getting the right answer and it being number one. anthony would look at sebastian but he would shake his head getting flustered.
it was your turn and you couldn’t say anything because you honestly had no idea, “alright y/n, you are up.” you hummed trying to see if you could think of someone on the spot. “look around.” they would try to help you to get a answer, anthony looking at you grinning.
“come on. imma look away cause you’re thinkin about me.” he would say looking the other way dramatically making you laugh then patting his shoulder clicking your tongue. “okay, i’m going to say uh... the falcon, sam wilson?” anthony grinning at you tilting his head while showing his bicep.
sebastians head rapidly going up when she chose anthony, “boo!” he booed putting a thumbs down and blowing raspberries at her direction. everyone laughing at his jealousy as you frowned feeling bad, “i’m sorry!” you quietly said as joe kept moving on. “alright facebook did you say sam wilson?” he asked the board and it dinged making anthony cheer at his name on the list.
almost finishing the questions, it was between mackie and hemsworth picking who would win in a staring contest. going around the purple team, they all started to get all the answer right and it went to seb. he looked around stoping at you and just staring, “i’m going with y/c/n.” you shook your head then waiting to see the answer. “did you say y/c/n, the sorceress?” he got that right making them all cheer.
they all go in a line getting all the answers right when seb was up again, “don’t screw it up bucky like you always do.” anthony yelled out making him stare up at him intensely, “what did you say to me—you heard what i said.” they kept going back and forth with each other.
you kept trying to contain yourself from laughing as they were so childish between themselves. “i’m gonna go with the falcon.” sebastian said staring at him continuously. when it came on the screen, you put your head down in disbelief.
the next round was you and sebastian and when you didn’t go up because you didn’t know it was your turn, joe told you to go up. you looked at him and walked to him. you put your hands in your pockets, seeing seb waiting for you. “oh oh. this is about to become intense, girlfriend vs boyfriend.” joe teased when you smiled and put you hand over seb’s.
you pulled away getting ready to answer your question and you probably knew it would work out because you hated being pressured. anthony russo looked at both of you and mentioned how you guys were matching, “you guys are matching, just noticed that—isn’t it cute!” letitia yelled but getting shushed by you.
“okay, which infinity war character takes the longest to get ready in the morning?” when he announced it you did your best to press the button by sebastian had quicker reflexes then you. you groaned watching him chuckle, “i swear my button is broken.” you complained but it was all jokes because you just lost.
“i think it works—mmh, no it’s broken. hurry say your answer.” you rolled your eyes wanting to hurry and leave, “downey. tony stark.” when the answer popped up you rolled your eyes, swatting your hand away. seb went over to hug you as you sighed but hugged him back anyway.
the ending was horrible because the opposite team won making you annoyed... you ended up having a good time with your friends. you walked passed all of them to use the bathroom and you went to open the door, you were tackled by some hands making you squeal.
you turned around to see sebastian and you sighed then when you composed yourself, you hit his shoulder. “don’t do that. i was about to hurt you.” he chuckled lowering his hands to your waist and pulling you close. “i missed you.” he mumbled kissing the side of your cheek. “we have to hurry for the press, then you can miss me even more.”

Look, this might sound sort of immature or whatever, and I’m probably going to make a better and more in depth post soon, but like…honestly I’m actually so upset (to the point I think is unreasonable) over some fans’ negative reactions and judgement towards those of us upset over the announcement made for the new cap movie.
Like…there’s so much ignorance and contempt, i don’t even know what to say.
Blogs that I loved and would constantly go to for Sam Wilson content (because he’s a character I really love) are out here accusing actual people who have every right to be upset and angry and hurt over the news, of being racist, anti black, and fake fans.
And for what? Because they’re upset people are angry and might not want to watch a movie that might literally spit out or imply pro Israeli bs??
(I know it’s not a guarantee and there’s a chance they change the character so completely that there are no ties to the Israeli military and government, but like…keep in mind, there is still a chance of the opposite, and given how adamant America has been recently to support and defend Israel, it’s a completely reasonable and valid concern to have.)
Just the fact that the first idea is “you guys just hate black people” instead of like 100 different ones that don’t make us out to be bigoted assholes for being human and reacting to something like this, is just so infuriating.
Because no??? This was one of the only mcu projects I was actually interested in?? But the news felt like a slap to the face, and many of us reacted emotionally immediately because, seriously, wtf is this timing???
And I sort of get it. There’s a lot of people out here ready to criticize every mcu movie even before seeing anything, and even more people who are racist, hate sam’s character, and have been complaining about Sam getting the shield since Endgame, but come on. Immediately roping us with them when there’s a CLEAR reason for our reactions and feelings that has literally nothing to do with Sam Wilson or Anthony Mackie, or us disliking him (because many of us DON’T!) is just so unfair and unnecessary.
You can be upset a lot of negativity is being spread about a movie you’re looking forward to because it stars your fav character, without belittling why people are so angry and hurt and accusing us of bigotry.

Sambucky writing prompts
Because I have a lot of ideas and no ability to focus on writing any of them right now... so I might as well share. Feel free to use any of these. You can tag me or send a link if you want to. (Unless it's ”a story about poor, sad Bucky... and Sam is kinda there to help” type of fanfiction, bacause I love Sam too much to read something like that.)
Let's go!
---
1. Both Sam and Bucky are trained to be Winter Soldiers at the same time. On one of the shared missions they accidentally form a connection which helps them with slowly getting their memories back, so they can escape together.
2. The Winter Soldier is sent to kill one Samuel Thomas Wilson, but for some reason he just cannot do it. (Or he almost did and regrets it immediately.)
3. Bucky's a mechanic that Sam called to help with repairing the boat and he works very slowly on purpose to have an excuse to see Sam more often.
4. Sam can actually talk to birds (as he should!) and they start to be annoying always asking about his dating life.
5. Sam is a literal angel. That's the prompt. (And canon.)
6. Sam and Bucky go on long, separate vacation. But they somehow end up in the same country, the same town, and the same hotel. Probably the same room too. What a surprise...
7. Bucky knows a lot of things about Sam and Sam is sure he never told him about any of that. Turns out Bucky migh have done some research between 2014 and 2016 when Sam was looking for him.
8. Sam discovers that Bucky had something to do with picking the designs for his new superhero suit.
9. Bucky finally tries to bond with Redwing and Sam does a very bad job at pretending he’s not amused.
10. Bucky has to deal with a painful realisation that Sam is not a supersoldier and that no matter how strong he is he'll always be more likely to get seriously hurt on their missions.
----- ------- -----
11. When they are frustrated Bucky starts to speak Russian and Sam responds to him in Arabic which doesn't solve the initial problem, but at least it's funny. (Bonus points if one of them - or both - pretends to not now the language the other one's speaking.)
12. Bucky has a terrible reputation and looks dangerous, so everyone prefers to avoid him, but then he meets Sam who just makes fun of his edgy persona all the time... and Bucky for some gay reason lets him. Everyone else is just very confused and worried about Sam’s safety. (Probably some University/High School AU.)
13. [It’s more like an art prompt, but whatever.] They both have long hair now. No plot. Just both of them being in love and appreciating how handsome the other one looks.
14. Since both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan exist in the MCU canon I’d love to see Sam and Bucky’s reactions to their actors being on screen when they watch movies together.
15. Bucky didn’t have much experience with dating since 1940s and he thought he’d be the awkward one once he and Sam get together, but it turns out Sam was never in any relationship, because he was too busy and neglected that part of his life.
16. They both have the canon skills/powers, but only one of them is a superhero. The other is “their” villain. So still enemies to lovers, but a different flavour.
17. Sam always had the ability to talk to birds. He just... forgot to mention it before to other people, including Bucky. So the power-reveal is quite unexpected.
18. Sam and Bucky literally hate each other – it’s not just their canon-like amused annoyance. But then they start to learn what happened to the other one in the past and the feelings slowly shift from hatered into something else. (Might be a No Powers AU)
19. Sam thinks that Bucky misses the 40s. Well, he’s wrong.
20. Sam is a regular civilian (who never met Steve). He finds Bucky right after he escaped HYDRA and helps him go back to normal life. (He might know who he’s helping or not.)
----- ------- -----
21. Bucky learns about Riley, but he doesn’t learn it directly from Sam.
22. Sam and Bucky come back after the Blip, see each other, and try to deal with the situation together, no knowing what has just happened.
23. Bucky explains to Steve why he won’t go back to the past with him. It’s  mostly because of Sam, obviously.
24. A story about Sam and Bucky growing apart between Endgame and tfatws and how they dealt with feeling like they’re losing yet another person so soon. (And about them coming bact to each other again.)
25. Sam and Bucky learn how other people around them see their relationship. It doesn’t really mirror how they see this partnership themselves.
26. A classic role-swap. Sam is the Winter Soldier. Bucky’s the Falcon. Their personalities stay exactly the same.
27. Sam and Bucky try to tell someone who knows almost nothing about them how they met. (They lie or they don’t.)
28. Bucky deals with people who are openly against Sam as the new Captain. Sam deals with people who think Bucky should be locked up for being “with” HYDRA in the past.
29. Sam is still The Falcon and later Captain America, but Bucky’s a regular person who also happens to be Sam’s huge fan.
30. Dr. Raynor said she heard a lot about Sam (presumably from Bucky). But what exactly did Bucky tell her?
----- ------- -----
31. Only one of them died after the Snap. The other one has to live for five years, hoping they’ll be able to reverse it.
32. The first time Sam and Bucky saw each other: scared, feeling exhausted, really happy, genuinely laughing, truly angry, crying, completely resigned, flustered, shy.
33. After being frozen in Wakanda Bucky lost all memories related to Sam. Sam has to decide whether he should use the opportunity to start the relationship over or let Bucky know about their less-than-ideal beginnings.
34. Sam accidentally gets super-serum. Bucky helps him with adjusting.
35. Bucky accidentally loses super-serum. Sam helps him with adjusting.
36. Sam used to visit Wakanda when Bucky was frozen and talked to him a lot, even when Bucky couldn’t hear him. (Well, couldn’t he?)
37. They have a conversation about Steve, but it’s Sam telling Bucky stories from their friendship (how they met, what they did as fugatives, how Sam feels about Steve leaving without saying goodbye).
38. Sam and Bucky use time travel (because they survived the Snap or for other reasons) and they see the past versions of themselves alone or interacting with each other.
39. Sam and Bucky are stuck in Soul Stone together. The problem is that they cannot really hide their emotions or memories as well as they would be able to as real people.
40. After disappearing in the Snap Sam gets a chance to talk to Riley. They know Sam will eventually come back to life, but they still can spend time together and get some closure that will help with moving Sam’s relationship with Bucky forward.

meet cute ✧ sebastian stan
masterlist
request: Hi there! I’ve been reading you Sebastian fics and love them! Can I request one based on an live interview he made where he jokes the camera is shaky because they’re nervous to be around each other and says the interviewer is pretty and let that exhange turn into him asking her out afterwards, I’m think fluff all over😂😍I think it’s pretty funny how she was freaking out and him just being a dork! Doesn’t let me copy the link but it’s called Moviepilot meets Sebastian Stan Live! Thank you!🧡 - @enjoyyourlifeasitcomes
inspired by: “moviepilots meets sebastian stan live”
pairing: sebastian stan x fem!reader
summary: what you thought would be an average interview turned into something a little more.
word count: 2,221
warnings?: this takes place in a world where covid has passed so in-person interviews can happen; kind of minor spoilers for tfatws; a lot of the dialogue is taken from the interview
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were an absolute bundle of nerves when you walked into the room. You were a journalist for a small media company, and you’d somehow landed an interview with the one and only Sebastian Stan. You could hardly process the fact that your boss was sending you in, much less the fact that you were about to meet someone who’s work you had admired for nearly a decade. And, when you stepped into the room, those nerves only intensified when you saw Sebastian sitting in his seat at the table, wearing his trademark leather jacket that you’d seen in so many interviews before. God, it nearly took your breath away.
But you tried to keep it together as you walked in, extending a hand to him and saying, “Hi! I’m Y/N!”
“Hi, I’m Sebastian,” he said, a soft smile on his lips. “So, what’s the plan?”
“Uh, we’re going to do a little livestream and answer some fan questions.”
The idea had been yours, knowing that fan interactions often generates a lot of clicks. Plus, the livestream itself meant more exposure for the company as fans came to your company’s Instagram page to view the live, which could help with getting future interviews down the line.
“Sounds great. I’m ready whenever you are.”
“Great!” You got out your phone and switched over to your company’s Instagram. You started the live, holding the phone out, trembling slightly as it began. “Hello everybody! I’m Y/N Y/L/N here today with the one, the only Sebastian Stan, promoting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all episodes now streaming exclusively on Disney Plus!”
“Hi!” Sebastian said, chuckling as your normal voice switched over to your interviewer voice so quickly.
“I don’t know how many viewers we have—oh we got seven viewers!”
“Seven!” Sebastian said. “That’s a good number, that’s my lucky number.”
You looked over at him, smiling. “That’s my lucky number, too!”
“Seven...dwarves was also another lucky one,” he mumbled, slightly awkwardly as he tried to figure out where to take the conversation.
“Strong case for the sevens,” you said. “If you guys would like to go ahead and start asking questions, we can get into those. Until then, let’s go through some of my questions.”
“Okay.”
“I like this one,” you said, looking through your notes. “So, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier obviously goes into the relationship, the friendship, between your character, Bucky Barnes, and Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson. What can you tell us about that relationship, and how much of it was a tribute to your actual friendship with Anthony Mackie?”
“It was real and it happened,” he laughed. “No, but really, I think a fair bit of our actual friendship was translated into our performance. I find it really easy to bounce off of him, and I think he feels the same way, so it made it easier to kind of show the bond that our characters were slowly developing.”
“Yeah, I like that you mention the bond developing. Because, the show almost can be read as an enemies to friends type of scenario. While I don’t know if you could classify Bucky and Sam as enemies, they certainly didn’t start as friends. I mean, you did rip out his steering wheel from his hands.”
“Yeah, and then he refused to move his seat up for me in the next film,” he pouted.
“But you did get your revenge! It all comes back full circle.”
He laughed slightly, almost impressed that you knew so much about the show and the universe as a whole. You’d wondered if the interviewers who came before you were more clueless. “Yeah, yeah, it does. And, I mean, these two weren’t ever really friends for a while. They just shared a friendship with Steve, and we never really got to see the two of them properly interact with each other until this show. And I think the writers, the director, did a really good job of showing how they go from acquaintances to friends.”
“Absolutely! And none of it felt forced. It was all so organic, from the time that Sam and Bucky are having couples therapy to when Bucky comes to help Sam with the boat. It all came together quite nicely, and really showed that your characters do care about each other beyond doing their jobs together.”
His face burned red as you complimented the show. “Thank you, thank you. So I guess you liked the show?”
“Oh, loved it!” you gushed. “I was part of the crowd that stayed up to watch the episodes as they were released, and I’ve already rewatched the whole thing. It was absolutely incredible.”
His face burned even redder. “Thank you, that means a lot.”
You looked away, the butterflies in your tummy fluttering around at the idea that you could make Sebastian blush that hard. Instead, you focused your attention on the comments coming it. “We have a lot of people saying ‘hi’.”
His entire face lit up. “Hello!” He leaned into the phone, examining the screen as he said, “I wish I could see what all of you guys looked like.”
You laughed quietly, reading out a comment that said, “You’re really hot!”
His face returned to that pretty shade of red as he looked down at the table.
“Oh, okay here’s a question. What show do you wish you could’ve been in?”
“You know, I have to go with Game of Thrones,” he said without missing a beat. “Wasn’t a big fan of that last season, but I would’ve loved to have at least been part of it for even just an episode.”
“I’ve never watched Game of Thrones,” you confessed. “I always meant to, but it was just something I never got around to.”
His jaw dropped as he looked to you, his pretty blue eyes all wide and in shock. “Seriously? You need to watch it! We’ll watch it together.”
“Oh? I’m gonna get blessed with the great Sebastian Stan’s commentary on every episode?” you teased.
“Of course, gotta make sure you’re truly invested in the episodes and the characters,” he teased right back.
You felt your face growing warm, so you turned back to the comments to try and distract yourself. “What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?”
“Of my own?” he joked. “The worst movie I’ve ever seen...Oh, God, I don’t know, maybe...probably, uh, a movie that was filmed on an iPhone that came out a few years back. Oops. Great film, great film. Original.”
“Spoilers: It’s, uh, this film that we’re filming right now.”
“Is it?” he asked. “Oh! That’s it! Exactly!”
“Yeah, it’s a film starring us.”
“No, no, this is a great film,” he corrected you.
You bit back your smile. “Okay, what else do we have going on here?”
“I hear he’s cool,” he read out, scoffing shortly thereafter. “No.”
“No, I agree with you, he’s quite hot,” you joked. “Geddit? Cause you’re hot, so you can’t be cool.”
He laughed loudly, throwing his head back and his shoulders shaking.
“Sorry, had to shoot my shot.”
“No, no, it was good,” he said, still laughing to himself. He turned back to the comments, reading out, “Will Bucky survive a zombie apocalypse? Of course!”
“With the arm? Show them the arm.”
He raised his left arm. “This is, this is my arm.”
“And, as I can see, it’s a very nice arm.”
He looked down, smiling, and mumbled, “Thank you.”
“Does this arm wanna take a shot at holding the phone?”
You passed the phone off to him, him saying, “Oh, sure, I can hold it.”
“It’s shaking quite a bit, I’m not quite as strong as you are.”
His face burned as he registered your compliment. “Yeah, yeah, I can hold this.”
Both of you looked to the comments, reading out at the same time, “Why is your camera so shaky?”
Sebastian quickly zoomed in on his face. “We’re really nervous to be around each other. We’ve just met, and she smells really good and I’m just trying to hold it in. Can you see I’m sweating?” As you laughed, he read out another comment. “Uh, let’s see, what other movies are you working on right now? Well, Monday just came out, and you guys should go check that out if you haven’t.”
“Oh, I watched that earlier! That was such an amazing movie. Yours and Denise Gough’s performances were just incredible.”
“Oh, thank you!” he said. “I swear, you’re trying to butter me up or something.”
“No, I really mean it! I mean, like, the way Mickey seemed so in love with Chloe, but them still having issues and never really working through them...It was just so raw, so real. You both really had me rooting for you guys to get through it all. Just...a masterpiece.”
He grinned, showing off his pearly whites. “Thank you! Um, I’m also about to start filming for the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee show I’m in. So, that’s gonna be fun. Be on the look out for that soon. Uh, what other superhero would you like to play, other than the Winter Soldier? This is a tough question because, uh, I feel like Marvel—” He panned the camera to you. “Look at you! You look so great.”
“You look great, too! It’s not often I get to sit next to someone this attractive.”
He ducked his head down, trying to hide his smile. “—anyways, I feel like Marvel will kill me if I say anything.” He read out another comment. “I love you. I love you too!”
“Awe, you guys are so nice.”
He stuck his tongue out slightly as he looked for another comment to read. “Um, if you could fight any Marvel character, who and why? Um, I fight all of them already, so that’s okay.”
You laughed at his response, before reading out a comment. “Amazing eyes. Oh, give them a close up of your eyes!”
He zoomed in until only his eyes were in frame. “Is...anybody...out there? Hello?”
“Is this your first live?” you asked, laughing slightly at his antics.
“I’m not drunk, I’m not,” he said, as if he anticipated people asking that.
“We’re not drunk,” you said. “We only took like five shots before we started?”
He chuckled going along with your joke. “Just had to ease the nerves to be able to function in front of a pretty lady.” Then, he returned to reading comments before you could say anything else. “Let’s see...Favorite song this year? I don’t know, I’ve been listening to Hungry Eyes a lot. Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars. Superman or Batman? The Riddler.” He turned the camera to you so you were only in frame, catching you off guard. “Sorry, was trying to get your expressions.”
“Let’s be real, everyone’s really here to see you.”
Sebastian look ready to protest, but that died as an idea struck him. “Imagine if we took this out and about, throughout the hotel.”
“Ooh, or throughout the town?” you suggested. “Like we did a tour of the town on live. We could go do karaoke, and you could sing Hungry Eyes for everyone!”
“We should, we should!” Then he nudged you, turning your attention to the screen. He read out, “Hey, she’s cute! Look, they’re talking about you!”
It felt like you face was on fire as you said, “No, no, they could still be talking about you! It could’ve been a typo, and they meant to say he’s so cute. You’re extremely handsome.”
“Yeah, but I’m not a she. You’re a she. And you are really cute. So it’s about you!”
“Fine, thank you,” you said, feeling like you weren’t going to win this.
“Dork, kiss her!” he read out next. He looked over at you, as if contemplating. Your heart skipped a beat as he leaned over, his free hand caressing the side of your face as he pressed a kiss to your cheek. He pulled away, a big grin on his face. “There you go, okay? We’re keeping it PG in this live.”
“You know, I think I just lived out the fantasy of so many girls and women right now,” you stammered.
On the other side of the room, one of Disney’s handlers called out, “One final question!”
“One final question?” Sebastian repeated. “Uh, let’s see...I know you’re interviewing me, but can I ask you a question?”
You frowned slightly, wondering where he was going with this. “Oh, uh yeah, of course!”
Before you could process what was happening, he ended the livestream and set your phone on the table.
“Wait, did you mean to—”
“Yeah, yeah. Didn’t want an audience of nearly ten thousand people see me get rejected.”
“Wait, what are you—”
“Would you like to go on a date with me? Do that little tour of the city you were talking about, minus the livestream?” he asked, his pretty blue eyes so full of hope.
“Oh. Wow. Yeah, I’d love to!”
“Great!” He grabbed a stray pen that was on the table and jotted down his number on the piece of paper. “Give me a text later, and we’ll meet up, yeah?”
“Sounds like a date. I’ll see you later then?”
“Of course,” he said, pressing another kiss to your cheek. “Can’t wait.”

hello my loves! i think it's about time i drop in my two cents on the anthony mackie situation. fair warning, this is a long post and i don't make an effort to keep my language clean in it.
also important for me to note: i use "you" a lot in this post. it is a general you, directed at the group of people who have caused this problem. i am not directing this at all of the fandom. just the racists who caused it to get this bad in the first place. here we go!
i know people have pointed this out, but i want to make it very clear. yes, anthony mackie did word things strangely. you know what that means of him? that he's human. those of you who actively partake in fandom racism will take any white man doing the bare fucking minimum and elevate him to a pedestal that's unattainable by any people of colour in the same fandom, and as soon as a person of colour makes one (evidently dissonant with past actions) slip-up, they're the latest in the "which poc can we get out of the narrative today" game.
what makes the situation worse? a person of colour, in this case a black man who has consistently been activating and publicly lending support to many different and important causes as well as speaking up about his stance on the very issues that are so near and dear to people of colour in fandom, when they make a misstep, are absolutely torn to shreds.
meanwhile, you as a fandom whole will continue to apologise for white actors who continuously display problematic behavior, sometimes deliberately, and you either ignore it completely or make up some bullshit excuse to defend it. i'm not going to name names in this post, it detracts from the whole idea that i'm trying to get across, but these people are some of the biggest names in fandom. it is sometimes repulsive how you will use willful ignorance to apologise for them.
additionally, the full context of the interview with variety lends itself to many flaws, which you can read about in this phenomenal post by @thetransguard. the part of the fandom that attempted to eat mackie alive (which is most of the fandom) completely fucking missed this. it almost seems like you who went after him were searching for yet another reason to "fuck [poc name here], stan [white man 30495834] instead!" which honestly, is absolutely the case.
and that makes me fucking livid. you who are ripping him apart right now, your only concern for mackie and his character, sam wilson, has been sebastian stan and bucky barnes. mackie attends any interview, including interviews that are supposed to celebrate his achievements? he's only asked about sebastian stan. white fans discuss and love on "sambucky"? sam is just whatever trope he needs to be to make bucky cry, or smile, or feel better, or feel safe, and that is the extent of his character. that's disgusting. do you understand that?
stupid question. evidently not. mackie brings up valid points that yall stucky fans and now stucky turned sambucky fans continue to miss, he makes these points in admittedly a convolutedly worded fashion, but he makes them regardless. and you know what the other problem with white fans' reaction to it is? this is exactly what fans of colour in your very own beloved fandom have been trying to tell you. we attempted to make these points during the show. you know, when you lot were throwing steve in every damn chance you got and centering the show around bucky and steve and steve and bucky and who's sam? we don't know sam. all we know is a black guy who got steve's shield, and he won't pick it up, and that makes bucky sad, and bucky's doing his best, okay, he's not ignorant, sam's just mean to him, and--
it's fucking draining. from the beginning, this has been about sebastian stan and bucky barnes. you who are ripping anthony mackie to shreds were never here for him in the first place. you never listened to him. you never saw his character for who sam wilson was. and that's coming to a head in how you are receiving his words. and are you truly missing the point of his words? or is there another reason why you took apart that evidently hate-bait headline and used that specific word choice, when it was fucking clear mackie had a point that was an overtone to the words he chose, to turn mackie into a paragon of homophobia and problematic behavior?
yes, i believe there is. because it's the same fucking reason you will drown out the voices of fans of colour when we call you out for the utter bullshit you spout in regards to the media you are incapable of consuming beyond a shipping lens. it is the reason you take it upon yourselves to slam fans of colour for being selfish, or inserting into the narrative something that to your shallow interpretation wasn't intended, or reminding you that sam wilson, anthony mackie's character, is more than a racist trope prop for your favourite white character(s).
you will bemoan the lack of bisexual bucky in canon. you will throw bucky with any white man he looks once at. you will lament how "rude" poc fans are being when they ask you to focus on sam and his story. you take poc fans, black fans especially, talking and clearing up the commentary on racial and class themes that the show attempts to address, and you will tell all of us that "it's not that deep." you will turn around and shit all over bucky and sarah. sam and bucky to you is a prop to make your newly minted m/m ship canon, because stucky never became canon the way you insist it should have. that's the core of the problem, we say, that wanting the m/m ship to be canon has shifted from wanting representation to wanting two men, generally two white men, to kiss on screen so you can go crazy about it. bucky and zemo will never be canon. bucky and john walker will never be canon. you saw sam and bucky and you said, this is stucky 2.0, and you centered it around bucky and steve as an invisible third party. that is what you are advocating for. that is what mackie fucking addressed.
so the reason? the reason is that you know we're right and we have been right all along, but you're too fucking thickheaded to acknowledge that as a respectful human being. so instead, you turn to whatever the hell you can twist mackie's words into, and attempt to get him out of the fandom picture altogether. that's it, isn't it?
how fucking detestable.
just read the goddamn interview, read mackie's other interviews if you need to, and stop ignoring the truth of the messages he is trying to convey. maybe it'll do you some good to watch and read mackie solo interviews as opposed to sebastian and mackie interviews where all you focus on is the relationship between those two actors, completely ignoring what they, especially and generally mackie, are trying to convey. that's another problem, isn't it?
full circle. stop being fucking tone deaf and listen to poc fans and actors for once in your privileged, entitled lives.
thank you for reading all the way through.

My journey in the MCU fandom on Tumblr: Sharing my thoughts on the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, racism in the MCU fandom and the best and the worse of the fandom
I wasn’t going to write this much but here I am… I don’t even know where I’m going with this but since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier just recently came out, I wanted to share some thoughts.
I joined Tumble because of a show I loved but most of you don’t know it “ Hit the Floor”
I stayed on Tumblr for two reasons only, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.
Before the Captain America:Civil War premiere, a friend sent me the link to the Sebastian and Anthony ET interview, and I was hooked. In just one interview. I discovered Anthony Mackie. The guy was hilarious!!! I just couldn’t get enough and I knew I had to know more about him. How could he improvise so many funny lines on the spot? He was just amazing.
I had pretty much watched all the avengers movie but that was it. I was not involved in the fandom. So I knew Sam Wilson’s face, but I couldn’t even remember his name if my life depended on it. That’s how much the MCU treated him as a side character.
I was like how the f*ck don’t I know this guy?
His talent reminded me of Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey or Robin Williams, like yes they can make some emotional or serious movies, but when they want to make you laugh, you will laugh. Whether you want it or not.  I kept wondering how this guy wasn’t more famous.
And the banter with Sebastian Stan? Wow, you could tell their friendship was strong, the way Sebastian lighted up when Anthony was talking, and keep bouncing off his jokes. It was art. the way Sebastian said “ I love you” at the end of the interview. Pure gold.
I then started to watch some of the interviews and boy was that a mistake!!! I literally couldn’t get enough. So I watched all and I say all their interviews, it was the best. We got some gems:
“Why aren’t you looking at me as much”
“Which way is the beach Seabass”
*Them saying nonsense in Spanish and then Sebastian Saying Papi Chulo*
 ¨And so many more, ....
I watched other solo Anthony interviews and he was still HILARIOUS, but you could also tell he felt a little bit more at ease with Sebastian around. I won’t pretend I know him or his personality, but Sebastian seems like a little bit more of an introvert and looks like he doesn’t enjoy the interview experience unless Anthony id around him. Just my thoughts
I watched the interviews before I went to see the movie, I even cosplayed as the Winter Soldier to the movie premiere and I was IN!!! When I saw Captain America Civil War, I became a SamBucky shipper, these two were hilarious and I really so the potential for a great realtionship I love enemy to lovers stories.
I also shipped Stucky because, to me, the trope of the movie was Superhero gives up everything to protect his long term friend” Hollywood movies have some codes and if Bucky were a female character, there is no doubt in my mind that the movie would have been marketed as romance.
Stucky really was an easy ship! But then the MCU fandom of Tumblr fandom messed up everything for me. You see I really liked the CACW and I I liked Stucky, I liked Sambucky, and I loved the introduction of t’Challa’s character, but one of things that affected me the most in the movie was that it was the first blockbuster I watched with 3 black main characters, Rhodey, Sam and T’Challa. That, and the fact that they were planning to realease a Black Panther movie in two years, I was super excited, and that’s the main reason I got involved in the MCU fandom so much, when before, I was just a casual watcher.
If this seem weird to you, then you have no idea how we were only getting crumbs before. For me it was soo huge, I even told all my friends, and they were laughing at me. But usually blockbusters, especially superhero movies get one black character and that’s it, usually the best friend or something and never the leads. So, for me it really was a big deal. How sad is that by the way…
I became more involved in the fandom and, at first, I wasn’t focusing on anything special, Sambucky, Stucky, Stackie, the Black Panther, and even Zemo, whose character I really liked.
But soon I noticed that the CACW tags were always flooded, and I mean flooded with the same two white characters: Steve and Bucky. I told myself, ok that’s fine Steve is the lead after all, but it would be good to see the other characters too.
And then I noticed another interesting trend: Evanstan…. Wait what?
Chris Evans, and Sebastian Stan… did I miss something? Listen, obviously I’m sure they must be friends or something, but you’re going to tell me you watch all MCU the actors and you’re going to focus on Steve and Sebastian? I’m sorry what?
Sebastian and Anthony are right there… Or Chris and Anthony, they even have a secret handshake, only the 2 of them do… what more do you want?
Tell me one iconic Evanstan moment… go ahead tell me… See??? There isn’t.
Because of this and because of how badly some Stuckies were treating Sam and Anthony. I became less and less of a stucky shipper . I mainly focused on SamBucky, Stackie and the Black Panther,
And then the Sebastian Stan stans saw how popular Stackie, Sambucky, were becoming and I started to see some problematic stuff in our fandom too.
I don’t want to generalize, but when you go into the Stackie tag, and you see cropped pictures of Sebastian without Anthony, it’s easy to assume that a Sebastian fan did that. And we know damn well you cropped out Anthony because we watched all Stackie interviews and know exactly which interview your picture was taken from. We know that Anthony was sitting right next to Seb.
You post a picture of Sebastian laughing but you crop out the person who was making him laugh??
“but it has nothing to do with race” How do you know that?
“Sebastian had more screen time” More screen time than Anthony in CATWS or CACW? I don’t think so.
“I have been a fan of Sebastian for longer”, that’s fine but don’t go out cropping Anthony, just post gifs of Seb in his usual, sad, and Anthony-less interviews, not the ones where he’s smiling because his best friend is next to him.
Some of you really are the worst. And just so you know, your fave Sebastian is Anthony’s biggest fan, if he saw pictures where you cropped out Anthony, he would block you on the spot.
When I realized that Anthony Mackie would be the next Captain America I was screaming, no actually, I was crying, Sam Wilson will be Captain America, and Anthony would finally get the recognition he deserves.
You would think that the MCU fandom would focus on Captain America or at least one the two leads, instead of just Sebastian? Right? Right? WRONG.
Anthony is handsome, he’s funny, he’s a great actor, he went to freaking Julliard, he’s at the top, I don’t see what else the man can do??? He should already be a superstar, but no, you will side-line him even to he is the lead of the show.
Even when they are the actual leads, you guys would do anything to bring up the White characters even if it means ignoring the Black characters.
I remember I was having a conversation about Black Panther with my friends and I asked one of my white friends who was his favorite character in BP was and he told me Martin Freeman (don’t even remember his name in the movie) Martin Freaking Freeman, there are half a dozen of great characters and your fave is the only white man??? Ok, ok, that’s great.
Don’t give out automatic reply like “It has nothing to do with race, if you haven’t thought about it first”, because there’s a high probability that it is indeed about race. Stop saying it isn’t, sit down and ask yourself, “Am I biased?” “Why am I reblogging only stuff related to the white characters”.
One of these days you guys are going to make me hate Sebastian with the sh*t you are pulling.
I looove the Stackie friendship and the Sambucky dynamic but after seeing the way some of you treat Anthony and Sam’s character, it make me want to focus on Sam’s character and forget about the rest.
I remember they were some posts about how Anthony was problematic, and I just lost it. Apparently, there was an old article that resurfaced were Anthony was making a joke about women making sandwiches or something.
If you were offended by the sandwich joke, that is totally ok, and I can understand that.
But if you were offended by the sandwich joke, and saying Anthony is problematic BUT you still stan Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, ScarJo or even Sebastian Stan, just know that there is a high probability you’re racist.
They have all said or done problematic stuff, and people only seem to remember stuff related to Anthony, which was probably just a joke by the way.
Chris Evans and Jeremy called Black widow a wh*re, ScarJo took roles that she maybe shouldn’t have and I didn’t forget Sebastian shady Instagram post, when Kaepernick was kneeling. There are so many more things to be said about Jeremy Renner but google is your friend.
Anthony also got hate for hating on Tom Holland? Like what? Do you guys even hear yourselves? Don’t you have any friends you like to tease? If you hate someone, do you go around talking about him every chance you get? It was obviously friendly banter but some people wanted to turn it into something it was not. Sigh.
I really cannot with this fandom
The stackie fandom was small at the beginning and the Sambucky fandom even smaller, but we were there and it was amazing. Sebastian and Anthony received the same amount of love from the fandom and I wish we could go back to those days.
Stop pretending the fandom isn’t racist. Stop saying “it isn’t about race” when you haven’t even thought about.
Saying “it has nothing to do with race” only shows that you haven’t thought about anything but don’t want to be called a racist.
There is racism in this fandom and it will always be there, but if you guys want to do anything about it, you have to acknowledge it first.
You can’t be pulling off stuff like “I don’t see colors”, “ it has nothing to do with race”. Stop, sit down, think about it and then we can have a conversation.
If you’ve made it till the end, I apologize for the typos and grammar mistakes, I wasn’t planning on writing this much.

Why We Need to Show Disney that We Love Sam's Character
Tumblr media
Been in Star Wars fandom when chaos occured, I realized how easy it is for Disney to sideline a POC main character even though the role is already official. Finn's character was sacrificed for another white male because the fans liked the other guy better. This issue is a long story by itself, and @thefirstokiro explained it amazingly here:
I don't want this to happen to Sam Wilson.
Sam is a lovable character, as we all agree. He's also popular because he fulfills most of the rules on "How White Movies Think a POC Protagonist Must Be To Be Loved by Fandoms and They're Kind Of Works" which are:
1. Is a comic relief, or humorous.
2. Flawless.
3. Is a sidekick to a white person.
4. If one of the main, which is rare, the villain must be POC too.
Tumblr media
See?
Now that he got his own TV series, he will be more than funny. Being one of the main character means that we'll know him more personally, and we will see his flaws. He's not a sidekick anymore. This is not bad, instead, it's an amazing idea of an exploration outside the popular stereotype.
However.
Fandom racism exists, where POC characters needs to fulfill at least some of the aforementioned rules to be loved. There might be hate when it's breached. However, people are getting better, so I hope that they will accept the character as they are.
Remember, Disney is not striving for diversity. They are striving for exposure. If they feel like the POC is not lovable enough or not attractive enough to be 'hyped' and 'cheered' by fans, they might remove him from the spotlight. They've done it before and they'll do it again if they need to. With the fandom's preference of Sebastian Stan over Anthony Mackie, I just hope that Anthony gets to keep his spotlight—and always be shoulder-to-shoulder with Seb, not behind him.
So, let's celebrate. Let Sam show his flaws and let him improve himself. Talk about him, show how much you love him as a main character, show that POC shouldn't just be a saintly being or a sidekick to be loved. Let him be weak, strong, sad, happy, human. Disney is a fan-pleaser and hates backlash, so they will listen.
Because Sam Wilson and Anthony Mackie deserve this amazing role.
Another thing to think about: @capsamwilsxn talks about racism that Anthony experienced here:
Tell me what you think!

Danny Ramirez One Shot
I don't know if you've tried writing for Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres in TFATWS) x Reader. I got an idea of him doing those press junkets and they play the game where they identify which body part (abs, arms, butt, whatever) belongs to which Marvel star and he ends up getting all of Reader's body parts right and of course Mackie calls him out on it.
Tumblr media
Press for The Falcon And The Winter Soilder was going well, you and your cast mates doing mostly virtual interviews.
Usually, you were paired up with Danny Ramirez but today, Danny had been paired up with Mackie.
"Alright guys, we are going to play a little game of whose that body part."
The interviewer says, explaining that they will show both men a close up picture of someone from the casts body parts and they have to guess who it belongs to.
"Oh, that's sexy Seabass right there."
Mackie says, almost too quickly identifying the first picture which happened to be Sebastian's hand.
"Alright, how about these lips?"
The interviewer asks.
"Y/N for sure."
Danny replies with a slight smile.
"It is Y/N!"
The game continues, Mackie guessing correctly pretty often while Danny can only ever seem to get your body parts correct.
"Mackie, I think you win this game!"
The interviewer announces.
"Apparently my boy over here needs to pay attention to more than just Y/N on set! Danny, I'm Anthony. I play Sam Wilson AKA Captain America."
Mackie jokes as Danny blushes.
"What can I say? Y/N is too beautiful not to look at."
He shrugs, hoping to play the whole thing off as more cute and flattering than creepy.
"I will give him that. Y/N is a beautiful girl and definitely makes set a lot more fun."
Mackie agrees, showing you a little love.
"Well, Anthony and Danny, thank you for joining us!"
The interview ends leaving Mackie and Danny to talk for a few.
"You know she is going to see the interview right?"
Mackie laughs and Danny sighs.
"Was it really that bad?"
"Dude, you identified her earlobe."
Danny hangs his head.
"Just ask her out already. I know she likes you. Sebastian said she couldn't stop talking about you during their last interview."
With the new information, he looks up with a smile.
"Really?"
Mackie nods.
"Really. Now stop being a stalker and start working on getting a date with her."
He says before signing off, leaving Danny to contemplate exactly how to ask you out.

Please talk about SamSharon. Ever since I watched TFATWS I thought 'Oh. Those two would look good together' and I need to talk about this with someone.
This week has been a special kind of hell so thank you so much for sending me this, Anon! It always makes me happy to talk about SamSharon (I like to call them Shasam, I think it's cute) and I hope it will make you happy too to read this.
You're right, even if we're talking just on an aesthetic level they do look good together. Anthony Mackie and Emily VanCamp are two very good-looking people! Just seeing them together in my icon or in some of the artwork I've been gifted/commissioned of them is enough to bring me joy.
On a deeper level, I think there are so many reasons they would make an incredible couple. They have a lot in common, as I see it - they are both incredibly loyal workaholics who don't seem to have a lot of time for a personal life. I think it would be good for both of them to be with someone who understands that dedication to a greater cause, and at the same time I think they could help each other realize that their work is not the only thing that matters. With their own strong internal moral compasses, neither of them have had issues with defying authority when they felt it was needed (see: Captain America: Civil War) and more recently (see: TFATWS) they have found themselves questioning long-held beliefs. At the end of TFATWS they are both in very different places, but I could really see Sam helping Sharon regain some of the idealism that we see she has lost.
I could go on for much longer (and already did here) so I'll end with one more point for now. I am really drawn to the idea of rewriting one's own destiny, and I think that's one of the things that draws me towards Sam and Sharon. It is possible to see Sharon as a person who is "meant" to end up with Steve, just like she did in the comics, and I think honestly there was a part of Sharon at one point that thought she and Steve were destined to be together. I love the notion of both Sharon and Sam realizing that the right person for them has been in their vicinity for a while, but they just weren't able to see it yet. I think there's something really beautiful about that and that they could become an incredible power couple, fighting side by side and building a life together.

Shipping Shasam
This post that nobody asked for is a long time coming and it is mainly here because of @thorst and @chimerrobang who ruined my plans and asked for it (💞). So, let's go ahead and talk about how much I adore Sam Wilson and Sharon Carter as a ship (Shasam, because every ship needs a cool ship name and I'm trying to make this one happen) and why I think they would be perfect for each other.
Origins
Sharon Carter and Sam Wilson joined the MCU in the same excellent movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. CA:TWS is undoubtedly a gamechanger within the MCU, contributing to the overall story in a big way with the fall of SHIELD and still acclaimed as one of the franchise's best movies. It is also one of my personal favorites and though it was not when I started shipping Sam and Sharon, I do think it a nice parallel that were both introduced here as side characters in relation to Steve Rogers. Sam has a better introduction than Sharon, I would argue, but this film was enough to interest someone (me) in them despite not having any familiarity with either character prior to that.
Although they have limited screen time in CA:TWS, we are nonetheless able to catch glimpses into Sam and Sharon's respective personalities. Both of them are extremely loyal, for starters: Sam is ready and willing to assist fugitive Steve and Natasha and Sharon likewise proves her loyalty to Steve when she takes on Rumlow. Their action sequences make it clear that they are very physical fighters, which is by necessity due to the work they do. We also find out that both of them have no issue questioning authority when needed, a topic that comes up again when we see them in Captain America: Civil War.
She Didn't Write It
Sam and Sharon's shared qualities are further emphasized in CA:CW, where they end up working together to help Steve. After Steve sees Sharon at Peggy's funeral, she reminds him that she was doing her job when she was spying on him and seems proud of her new role within the CIA. At this stage in her life, I think it is safe to say work is one of Sharon's highest priorities, and her choice to move to the CIA after SHIELD's dissolution suggests that she feels what she does is important enough to do no matter what form it takes. As for Sam, he also comes across as someone who values his work above most things. He worked as a pararescue whose role was literally to save lives, and he disagrees with the Sokovia accords because he doesn't trust the government to keep tabs on who the Avengers should and shouldn't save.
It is CA:CW that seals the deal in my personal opinion that Sam and Sharon are both workaholics who have never paid much attention to their personal lives. While I don't doubt that there are probably racist reasons for Sam to have never been given a love interest in the MCU, in-universe the only explanation that makes sense to me (I mean, look at him) is that he hasn't had time to worry about that in between working with the Air Force, working for the VA and then becoming an Avenger. He alludes to this in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, when he talks about missing his nephews growing up - I, at least, got the impression that it wasn't just because he was blipped. I don't think it's a stretch to assume that Sharon is similar, although admittedly we don't see her much outside of professional situations.
All of the qualities I've mentioned so far are ones that I could see as being points of connection for Sam and Sharon. I like relationships that are founded in common ground, and I see plenty of it to work with here. I don't think Sam or Sharon would be happy with someone who didn't understand the importance of their work to them, and being with each other would allow them to be fully open about that aspect of their lives. Likewise, they share a strong moral compass, which could permit them to understand and empathize with each other's decisions. Crucially, though, I also think together they could also have that personal life that they've been brushing to one side for so long. Having those shared values could allow them to make space for each other, and for something more than what they do.
One of my favorite scenes in CA:CW now is a two-line exchange, where Sam objects to the term 'bird costume' and Sharon counters with: "I didn't write it." It's a very small moment, and I'm not saying for a minute that the writers did this intentionally, but looking at it from a character perspective, Sharon absolutely did not have to defend herself in that moment. She is interested in Steve as far as we know and she barely knows Sam, but she still makes a point of making sure that he knows she didn't write it. She doesn't say much, but she could be saying a lot, like that she respects what Sam does and wouldn't dismiss him in that way. If anything, the fact that she is later the one to steal his wings back together with the shield, only underlines that idea.
All the Sh*t Sharon Had to Go Through
I first started thinking about Sharon and Sam as a ship around the time it was announced that Sharon was going to be in TFATWS. Even though the show panned out differently than I had imagined with respect to Sharon, I think it is full of breadcrumbs that could lead to a relationship in the new Captain America movie. The Sharon we see in TFATWS is hardened, disillusioned and, in my view, playing the role of her life. In order to survive, she's had to seal every crack of vulnerability, like the one that made her kiss Steve in CA:CW. She is cavalier when she asks about Captain America in Madripoor, but she does still ask, and then uses it as an opportunity to show how little she supposedly cares. The actions she takes in the show don't make sense just on the basis of her being the Power Broker, and I think this is partially bad writing, but if we take it at face value we could see it as her wavering in her commitment to her newfound attitude. She helps Sam in situations where she could have gotten rid of him and Bucky or ignored them, even to her own detriment. At the end of the show, she even saves Sam's life. Sam, meanwhile, seems to be the only person who really cares about what has happened to Sharon. He reminds Bucky that she was branded enemy of the state, he apologizes to her more than once for the situation she ended up in, and he brings her up again much later when he is laying out on the table all the trouble the shield has caused. He promises her a pardon and asks her to come back to the United States, all because it seems to matter to him whether or not she is OK.
There is also all the flirting, of course. Sharon's reaction to seeing Sam shirtless is to say "Much better." In that same scene, after making his agreement with Sharon, we see Sam grinning and watching her as she walks away. Sharon calls Sam "a friendly voice" and Sam smiles when he is messaging her. In the last episode, Sharon, who had spent so much time previously mocking the idea of Captain America, tells Sam the suit looks good on him. It would certainly be possible to look at this cynically, and perhaps suggest Sharon is putting on a performance to help secure the pardon she wants. The way I choose to look at it is that Sharon is being who she has always been, someone dedicated to service and who is extremely efficient at what she does. Those qualities are, incidentally, ones I think Sam would look for and value in a partner. They could also be indications that Sharon as she used to be is not entirely gone, and that Sam gives her the opportunity to allow that idealistic version of herself to come to surface.
The Future
Going forward, I think with all the groundwork that has been laid out, Sam and Sharon could flourish into a great love story in future Captain America movies and shows. We could see Sharon start to doubt the image she felt she had to build to survive, in parallel with her developing feelings for Sam that she never expected. For his part, I think even if there was some initial conflict, Sam would ultimately be understanding about what led Sharon to where she was and value her for who she is.
United, they could make an incredible team. Just as they complement each other in many ways, they could also bring out the best in each other. Sharon is someone who very much sees the world as it is and I think Sam does too, but he also sees the world as it could be. There's a beautiful push and pull there between a spy who deals with threats on the ground level and a former soldier who can literally fly. Sam also takes things less seriously than Sharon, and I think could help bring out a lighter side to her, as we got just a hint of in some of their banter in TFAWTS. Logistically, Sharon as Sam's love interest also makes a lot of sense given that she has been in his orbit for a long time already and they have a pre-established relationship. Developing that would be more interesting in my view than try to introduce somebody new.
Zooming out to a more meta perspective, I think there's some serendipity in the fact that both Sam and Sharon have at times been underrated/undervalued by the fandom at large. Sam has been repeatedly dismissed as Captain America even since having officially taken up the title, and Sharon has a long history of being reviled mainly (I guess) for having the audacity to kiss Steve Rogers. I am a Steve fan myself, but since he clearly isn't going to be a big part of the movies going forward, I am thinking about what the MCU looks like without him. I don't know what's going to happen in the future, obviously, but how great would it be to see two people that formerly were seen mostly in relation to Steve find love with each other and become an unstoppable power couple?
The beauty of Sam and Sharon is that they each can totally stand on their own, as independent characters, and they could also be incredible together. I, for one, would absolutely love to see them as our Captain America and Agent 13. ❤️🤍

I love Sharon's cascading hair and their expressions and the pose is gorgeous as well.

I don’t mind Sam and Bucky having completely separate projects.
I love the idea of Cap 4 focusing on Sam, Joaquin and Isaiah. It’s the perfect opportunity to get closure on Riley. If they don’t have Sam wrestling w having a new wingman, it will be weird. I want this movie to prioritize the bond between Joaquin and Sam.
AND I can easily see the government setting up a situation that makes it look like Bucky violated parole in order to coerce him into doing their dirty work. I have been DYING to see Bucky and Yelena interact.
That said, what I don’t want to see is some bullshit off screen “they had an unexplained falling out” that’s never addressed or resolved. I want them to still be life partners, who are just doing separate things.

Sam completed the real world version of superhero school, where most candidates drop out.
Natasha knew of Sam’s mission by name and was shocked.
Nick Fury tried to recruit Sam after seeing him in battle one time.
They immediately tried to recruit him into the Avengers but Sam said no. Until he finally relented and joined up.
Literally every important character who has ever met Sam Wilson immediately tried to recruit him for their team.
We have known Sam’s qualifications for yeaaaars. Why is there any doubt he’s Captain America?

Still thinking about Bucky taking one look at 40+ year old, drop dead gorgeous mother of two, runs a fishing business in her comfy clothes Sarah Wilson and deciding he must flirt with her at every opportunity. I love that for her. Sarah Wilson deserves the world and Bucky is ready to give it.
He’s going to do her laundry. He’s going to jar her honey. He’s going to do school runs. He’s going to do food runs. He’s going to take her dancing. He’s going to haul her catch. He’s going to give her massages. He’s going to make that midnight run to the store to get whatever she wants. She’s five seconds away from being wined and dined and look at her, she’s feeling it.

I absolutely love that the very idea of Bucky and Sarah being together is more than enough to give Sam a headache xD
I think I read somewhere, if I remember right, that since - according to Marvel.com - Bucky is part of the Wilson family now (have I mentioned how much I love the ‘found family’ trope?), his dynamic with them will certainly be different.
I mean, sure, I believe that Sam and Bucky have reached a point in their interpersonal relationship where they truly love each other as not just real friends, but also brothers and family too. They trust each other, work together, fix a boat together, train together, talk together, fight together. There’s even this behind-the-scenes video somewhere, where Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie agree that there is no Bucky without Sam, and no Sam without Bucky. Now that Bucky, for all intents and purposes, is an honorary Wilson and part of Sam’s family, how might things change between Sam and Bucky as friends, brothers, and family? I don’t think that their familial closeness might change, but I’ve got a feeling something else might, and I can’t quite put words to it yet what that something would be.
I also believe that Cass and AJ absolutely adore Bucky. They were having such a blast not just throwing playful air punches at Bucky when he arrived at the cookout but also having the time of their lives hanging from his vibranium arm. This familiarity that Cass, AJ, and Bucky have with each other is freakin’ adorable and such a god-damned pleasure to watch, not just because is this the happiest we’ve ever seen Bucky, it’s pretty clear that Cass and AJ really enjoy having Bucky around. I’ve seen a post somewhere that talks about that scene with Bucky and the Wilson kids that explains how Bucky would’ve had to spend a considerable amount of time with the Wilsons for the two young boys to easily run up to Bucky and play fight with him, and for Bucky to respond in kind by dodging and pretending to react. I agree! It doesn’t say how much time has lapsed between Bucky finishing up his booklet and him coming down to Delacroix. Maybe once he tied up his loose ends, he made at least one or two more visits, that maybe lasted a week? I don’t know. Even the boat needs fixing too, y’know.
Regardless, the fact that it’s more than likely that Bucky spent enough time at the Wilson’s for Cass and AJ to form a familial bond with him leads us right to who else but the one and only Sarah Wilson. Yes, we’ve seen Bucky introduce himself to Sarah with what I think is half as much charm as his formerly unapologetically flirtatious self had back in the 40s, leaving Sarah smiling so brightly even Sam could see whatever it was between his sister and his friend. Bucky’s a different guy in 2023 (2024?), given all that he’s been through, so perhaps he’s longing to rediscover, through rusted but ever-present memories, what it’s like to flirt the way he used to when he was seventeen. Seeing such a beautiful, smart, hardworking, and independent woman like Sarah (honestly, there’s so many more good things to say about her) was kind of like a daybreak for him, a kind of beautiful and charming dawn that’s almost as warm as the humid air of Delacroix, Louisiana, heated by the morning sun’s golden glow when he’s walking to the docks the next morning to help Sam after meeting Sarah the day before. The warm and comfortable feeling that Bucky would be left with after confronting his demons and coming to peace with his past, and accepting his new family (who in all likelihood have already accepted him as one of their own), would be heating up to furnace-like temperatures, nine whole years after trying to eliminate Sam, Steve, and Natasha when Bucky was anything but himself as the ice-cold Winter Soldier. In the present, Bucky is a benign individual around the Wilsons. He would never do anything that would hurt Sam, Cass, AJ, or even Sarah, because to return to the Wilsons time and time again, going on missions with Sam, playing with the two kids, or even just flirting with Sarah, is a homecoming for Bucky. He is becoming who he once was, and he’s happy to be home, metaphorically speaking or literally. The Wilsons are his home as much as their actual home is like a safe place he can call home. Around the Wilsons, Bucky feels whole once more, at one with himself.

I know you talk abou st*cky in the interracial ships stuff, but can we talk about st*ny? Iron husbands is literally right there, but I also always sees Rhodey as Tonys moral support only. And ik Tony is very shippable with most characters, but the fact his ship is Rhodey is one of the lowest ships in ao3 (ironstrange, winteriron and god forbid stark*r all had more fics in ao3).. It's pretty telling this side also has racism problems...
I'll go ahead and answer this here, but letting y'all know that I do have a marvel sideblog if you want to hit me up there (@themarvelarchives).
Hey, I'm going to ramble for a good minute.
So after I posted my very incoherent, controversial take on St*cky vs SamBucky, there were a ton of ppl who came onto anon saying that St*cky shippers were racist. I think I only answered a few, but y'all were pretty insistent on it. I personally have not observed that St*cky shippers are so I'm not calling anyone out on that side of the fandom for that.
I also did not call out anyone on this side of the fandom bc that's not what my meta was about. I think I mentioned maybe once or twice in the whole post that there was underlying racist in the fandom, but since you asked, we can talk about it here.
Covert Bigotry In Fandom Spaces.
To understand what's going on in the MCU, we have to first look at what I call "woke-queer" fandom.
So "Woke-Queer" Spaces is the phenomenon where certain fandom members like to call ppl out on their bigotry, while covertly harboring their own queerphobia/racism/etc. An example of this that we're all familiar with is TERFS and how they like to claim that they are progressive and woke, while also claiming that trans women are fake and trans men are sexist.
How this translates to fandom, however, is the hypocrisy that is cancellation and callout culture.
For example, Supernatural in particular is a fandom that likes to call out the writers on their homophobia and racism, and yet, somehow, the fandom is chalk full of homophobia and racism. If you want to read more about this, here is a truly excellent article from the perspective of a queer woman of color.
Moving on, I've also talked in a previous meta post, on the internalized acephobia that exploded in 2019 after Good Omens was released. Rather than reiterate everything I said in that post, I'll just leave it at this: the controversy in the Good Omens fandom can be summed up by the fact that queer audiences are claiming that Ineffable Husbands is the wrong kind of queer. The hypocrisy oozes off the screen, doesn't it?
A final way this viably translates to fandom, is in how the Doctor Who fandom evolved over time.
So Steven Moffat takes over as head writer and showrunner in 2010. It's a new series, a new Doctor, a new Tardis, and new branding. He steps up the action, changes the color grating, and raises the stakes. Women are sexier, the Doctor is smarter (and more of an asshole, but that's another meta post), and every companion comes with their own impossible mystery that makes them Special™.
Series 5-10 got tons of woke points for having lesbian characters, an episode where the Doctor is homoerotic with James Corden, and an underlying trans narrative with the Master's reincarnation. What a lot of people forget, however, is that his series was incredibly sexiest, incredibly lesbian/biphobic, and basically turned the Doctor into everyone's fantasy sex-object.
This, unfortunately, brought out the worst of the fandom. There was RTD Era vs Moffat Era wars exploding in certain corners, TenxRose shippers vs ElevenxRiver shippers.
What does this have to do with covert racism in fandom cultures though?
Hnnngng ok, so back in RTD era's we get Martha Jones, the Actual Best Companion On The Entire Show. Except for the fact, of course, that she is written to be in love with the doctor. She's a brilliant character--smart, sassy, flawed, funny, flirtatious--and her entire plotline is reduced down to a school-girl crush on a white man.
She doesn't do well with fans, they scrap her after one season.
We move on to Donna Noble (The Other Actual Best Companion On The Entire Show) and RTD's era ends with them scraping her too and regenerating David Tennant's Doctor.
It will be five more series (not seasons, SERIES) until Doctor Who will have another black companion--who gets extra points for being gay--only to fall victim to "bury your gays" at the end of the season (but not really bc no one stays dead on Doctor Who).
The fandom's reception of Martha Jones was historically bad. The comparisons to her predecessor, Rose Tyler, were rampant and everyone was finding a reason to hate her.
The fandom's reception to Bill Potts was also historically bad, as everyone was screaming that she was being written for more "woke points" and that they wanted Clara back.
Fandom has a historically bad reputation of being problematic and, I would argue, the majority of it has to do with these toxic undertones of bigotry that slip under the radar. "Woke-queer" spaces, as I call them, are these instances above where spaces that claim to be inclusive of gender/orientation/race are covertly bigoted.
Marvel and Cancelling
Now is an excellent time to talk about the MCU.
Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson) has recently come under a lot of criticism from fandom members for shutting down shipper speculation.
"The idea of two guys being friends and loving each other in 2021 is a problem because of the exploitation of homosexuality. [...] something as pure and beautiful as homosexuality has been exploited by people who are trying to rationalize themselves."
I can't find the rest of the quote, but Mackie goes on further to say that it was important to him to portray "a sensitive, masculine figure" without insinuating that there was romance involved.
Woke culture lost it's shit. Everyone was suddenly claiming that Mackie was calling them exploitative for shipping a gay ship as a queer audience, which could not have been further from the case.
Mackie actually makes some very excellent points in that sensitivity is not gay/queer. Woke culture loves to rag on Toxic Masculinity, but the minute someone plays a character who is loving and sensitive with no queer narrative in mind, they are immediately canceled.
What Am I On About
Okay, let's actually address what your ask was about, Nonnie. You pointed out--rather truthfully--that it is unfair to call-out racism on one side of the fandom, while ignoring it on the other side.
Well, I've gone back through my St*cky vs. SamBucky analysis (which is incoherent at best, I apologize for that) and I see maybe once instance where I called out fandom members for being racist. Here's what I had to say about racism:
"[...] Iron Husbands is a rarepair, probably because it’s an interracial ship."
"[there is] nothing wrong with shipping two white men, but it does become a problem when you ignore/bash POC/interracial ships to the determinant of your own white ship."
And then there was the post you brought up where I addressed interracial ships in the fandom. That one is probably more relevant to this topic, to be honest, as I actually addressed fandom racism there. I assume that your reason for bringing up Stony is because it's a ship that is more relevant to my side of the fandom, HOWEVER, the reason I highlighted Stucky instead was because I was comparing the fact that they've both been around the same amount of time and are relationships that feature the protagonist and their best friend.
You brought up St*ny in the ask, however, so I'm going to talk about St*ny for a minute.
As someone who never has nor will ship St*ny, it never even occurred to me that some of the problem behind the Iron Husbands tag being so small is because everyone ships the white, boring ship. You brought up a very valid point, but because I was never in that part of the fandom, I can't really speak to any possible underlying racism there, besides what I've already said above.
I would be interested in hearing a St*ony shipper or ex-St*ony shippers thought on this, but sadly I don't know any. If you have any more thoughts regarding this, Nonnie, pls drop back into my inbox.
You do make some excellent points in this ask though, and I would like to talk about racism on my side of the fandom.
So back to Mackie and his Twitter cancellation. Notice that Disney made him address the rumors and not his co-star, Sebastian Stan. Anthony Mackie is put on blast and made to answer fan demands and receives backlash, while Sebastian Stan gets to fly under the rader. This is not, by the way, a criticism of Stan, but instead of the blatant racism Disney has been displaying over the past few years.
How this ties in with the rest of my post has to do with my "woke-queer" spaces bit. The outcry across the MCU fandom over Mackie was swift and unforgiving. He was cancelled on charges of homophobia and bigotry--all the while these same fans turn a blind eye to any queer interpretation of other interracial ships and discourse in their own fandom.
The racism that I'm speaking about, of course, is an almost passive racism. Of course if you don't ship a specific ship for reasons other than their race, it's perfectly fine. It's okay not to ship Iron Husbands or SamBucky or any other interracial fandom ships. However, the distinct lack of shippers in the fandom IS telling because there are people who would ship that exact ship if not for the fact that one of men is black.
I don't have much more to say about this except to thank you for bringing it up and for listening to my long rambling post.
(Feel free to bug me about Tony Stark, MCU ships, MCU Meta and anything you want to talk me about on this blog and @themarvelarchives.)

Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Ep. 2 Takeaways
I’m sorry but the modernized “Star-Spangled Man with a Plan” tune was catchy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
John Walker...”I have guts like he did” yeah, he had a lot more than guts, kid. I believe he has good intentions (like his comic counterpart) but...I think he’s in it for the glory as well whereas Steve would have done everything he did with zero recognition. What’s the saying about the road to Hell and good intentions? Yeah. That.
Bucky watching the Good Morning America interview. I could feel how badly he wanted to punch him through the screen. ((my youngest daughter, when they announced him as the new Cap goes “Boo. That’s stupid. No one should like you 😂😂😂))
“You think it didn’t break my heart to see them marching him out there and call him the new Captain America?” “You’re not gonna tell me about my rights.” Literally everything about Sam in this scene killed me. And that was nothing compared to what happened later.
Joaquin Torres.
Bucky literally screaming when he jumped from the plane OMG.
The fact that Sam and Bucky antagonize each other but also make one hell of a team. They’re still getting used to one another and dealing with their own shit and figuring things out. Totally signs of how perfect they are for each other and the kind of relationship they will have by the end of this.
When John Walker joined the fight on the trucks and introduced himself to Sam as Captain America, I honestly wanted to hurl. Like...jfc.
Oh, and can I just point out that they’ve been playing Sam’s theme throughout and I fucking LOVE it.
Um...Sam and Bucky rolling through a field and ending up on top of one another? Thank you.
Sam and Bucky using each others names. Idk why this makes me so happy but I love hearing characters use other characters’ names.
How they totally ignored JW pulling up in a jeep.
“Just cause you carry that shield doesn’t make you Captain America.”
“You ever jump on top of a grenade?” JW’s answer, too, and the fact that he has no idea what Bucky means and that Steve’s jump was an entirely different thing.
“It’d be a whole lot easier if I had Cap’s wingman on my side.” Fucking eh, dude. You don’t get it. You just don’t get it. He is NOT Cap’s wingman. First of all, Sam Wilson was a hero before joining the Avengers. Even with the Avengers and as Cap’s friend he was his own superhero. And then he’s the man that Steve Rogers trusted to hand the shield and mantel over to. No, Mr. Walker, Samuel Thomas Wilson is a lot more than “Cap’s wingman.”
The villains. I’m super intrigued by their mission and why the think how/what they do. Also, who the fuck was texting her???
Sam and Bucky on the plane together. The real shit. Bucky wanting so badly to just get out there and make this right by taking the shield back. Sam obv wanting to do the same but thinking logically. Also the mention of Sharon. HELL YEAH.
“Are you Black kid?” Yo, the look on that kid’s face!!
Isiah FUCKING Bradley. Holy SHIT i was not ready for that. I didn’t even know there were rumors about him being in it and I just...omg. No changing of his background. The bullshit the US gov’t put him through. Experimenting on Black men in the army and then completely discarded by those who did it to him. Basically left to rot after he was a legit hero. All of that justified rage. And, of course, the possibility of the young man there being Elijah Bradley and more hints at Young Avengers. God, this scene was so powerful.
Speaking of powerful scenes, the immediate scene when the fucking police pull up on Sam and Bucky, immediately thinking Sam is harassing Bucky and would have arrested him for no reason other than being Black if not for Bucky intervening. All of this right after the scene with Isiah? All of this with Sam absorbing what he just found out? All of this hanging over Sam’s head while a poster white boy is running around calling himself the new Cap?
Couples Therapy. A Plus.
“Then maybe he was wrong about you. And if he was wrong about you, maybe he was wrong about me.” “Maybe this is something that your or Steve can never understand. But can you at least accept that I did what I thought was right?” So this scene is just all sorts of heartbreaking. Right on the surface is Bucky’s pain, obviously. He’s questioning himself and his hopes to be better. He’s worried that Steve was wrong about him and that there’s no chance for him. And at the same time, he’s literally staring his own white privilege in the face and has no idea how much Sam is hurting because of it. This comes just hours after their interaction with Isiah and Sam almost being arrested for being Black. Of course, Sam wanted to do what Steve asked of him. But carrying the shield means something entirely different for him and the world he’d be representing. It’s not the same as it was for Steve or would be for Bucky or is for John. The burden would be entirely different and Isiah Bradley is a living testament to what happens to our Black heroes. If this has gone over your head, I just. ((so many kudos to Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan for their talent. I don’t even have words for how great they are))
I love the emotional turmoil. The “and never see each other again” that’s obviously just coming from a place of hurt and anger in both of them. The foreshadowing that these two are going to find a good place within each other is right there. Even by the end, when their emotions are simmering down some, they find a more neutral ground again. I love that and look forward to seeing the relationship progress.
“Stay the hell out of my way.” How bout go fuck yourself.
And, I mean, of COURSE, the end with Zemo.

How do more people not ship Stackie? I don't understand. I tried looking for fanfiction for them and there is //not enough//. They are PERFECT together! As just friends in interviews or something more. They are the best
Honestly, I think either the MCU fandom are so heterosexual and/or so used to the hegemonic heterosexual pairings in mainstream media like movies and tv shows, that by default they see any over-the-top chemistry by two males as a bromance. Iwas guilty of that myself way before I decided to look pass the gender of others to really look at who looks like they make each other happy. Or... they are just racist, whether they acknowledge it in themselves or not, and refuse to see what a bi-racial power couple Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie can be; if Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan choose to be.
Yes, I believe two straight guys can be platonic soulmates and have a bromance. Chris Evans and RDJ and Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth show clear examples of that. I think it’s adorable how Hemsworth wants to adopt all his male friends into the Hemsworth clan. Or how RDJ embraces the Stony community while being happily married with kids.
I find myself scratching my head at the MCU Fandom community as a whole simply because they don’t acknowledge the power of stackie romantically, but they also don’t even acknowledge their friendship either. You have rabid Sebastian Stan fans cooing over Sebastian and not acknowledging the fact that Sebastian smiles, talks, dances, feuds, laughs and is silly more around Anthony Mackie or thoughts of Anthony Mackie then any of his costars. You can’t embrace someone’s everything without also embracing what puts a spring in their step, and Anthony Mackie is it for Sebastian Stan.
Then you got those MCU fandom people who are so obsessed with the idea of EvanStan because the two handsome, white actors portrayals of their favorite ship Stucky, that they can’t see pass their noses that Stackie is just as, if not more so a possible thing. So these people are down for the cause as far as homosexual pairings go; but have their blinders on when it comes to any pairings that interfere with their OTP. Chris Evans has amazing chemistry with all his costars like RDJ, Chris Hemsworth, ScarJo, Anthony Mackie, etc. But Sebastian Stan literally lights up inside and becomes less introverted when he’s around a extrovert like Anthony Mackie.
Anthony Mackie is so sweet and kind to people who interview him and to his costars. He’s always saying positive things and ready to hype them up in whatever projects they are doing whether they are sharing a project or not. He has always taken acting roles that empower the black community. This man deserves better treatment in the MCU community as a whole. He shouldn’t have to insert himself into interview questions meant for other costars at a convention or interview, because fans and interviews refuse to acknowledge the awesomeness that is Mackie. Some might think it is rude, but I see it, as this man took time out of his busy day to be here and he is going to be known because he is somebody. He put in his time, just like the others. He petition to be a part of the Marvel Universe in any way possible and was rewarded for his efforts for being allowed to play the amazing Sam Wilson.
I love me some Anthony Mackie and I love me some Sebastian Stan; and I especially love them when they are together. I swear if any of these handsome men were the same race as the other; or a different gender then the other than more people would be shipping them. But because God made them who they are, and they love who they are, we are always going to have haters; haters who might not hate the friendship, but hate the idea that they could be something more.
I’m sorry, but there have been Romantic Comedies built on best friends who everybody, but the best friends saw they should be together, until they finally realize it themselves. I’m not going to apologizing for shipping the friendship and romantic side of Stackie because you see gossip rags and people doing that shit all the time when it comes to heterosexuals people. So how is it okay to ship real people in real life, but you can’t stomach it when it’s two hot guys who are black and white? Make that shit make sense.
I’m not going to outright and say to Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, if I ever see them, do ya’ll think you’ll ever get together? I wouldn’t do that if I see two coworkers at work that I thought should be together. That is rude as shit.
But if they somehow find my tumblr blog and think to themselves... hmm... maybe their might be something there that I didn’t realize because I can’t see the forest for the trees. Then I’ll feel like I did something good. Let these men find their happiness wherever they can get it. I’m happy if their happy and if they are happy together, then all the better.
Sambucky would not have a strong foundation without the magic of Stackie.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for the crazy chemistry of Stackie.
You can’t fucking have one without the other. It’s like the chicken and the egg. One can’t exist without the other.
If you have any issues with any haters, point them out to me and we’ll gang up on them together with amazing examples of how Stackie is real, because we are small but mighty.
If I’m being too real for you, get the fuck off my post. This wasn’t meant for you.
