Pantone 2018 Color of the Year:  Ultra Violet Translated for Bridal Beauty!

Last week Pantone, the authority on all things color, unveiled the 2018 Color of the Year, Ultra Violet. The color authority described ultra violet as “A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade...inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come”.

And while this vivid purple is certainly on-trend for bridal fashion (heck I even incorporated it into my own wedding color palette), it can be a bit intimidating when you translate it to beauty. No matter what Instagram is claiming is on-trend for beauty, bridal beauty continues to be a fairly neutral friendly territory that prefers a fresh faced bride to one who’s “doin’ it for the ‘gram.” At most we’ll see  the occasional red lip for the bold. So, how do you rock ultra violet in a way that won’t have you cringing in a few years when you look at your wedding pictures? Well, between this December and next January, I’m going to be digging into that very question by highlighting purple friendly makeup and how to use it.

To kick off this beauty miniseries, I’ve collected a few items I currently already own that fall into the ultra violet family. Depending on your aesthetic, these can be a fit - of course in varying degrees of intensity. So, let’s start with the Kevyn Aucoin purple palette at 12 o’clock and work clockwise!

Kevyn Aucoin Neo-Limelight Ibiza Highlighter (gifted)

I’ve waxed poetic on this highlighter a thousand times. It gives an awesome subtle soft purplish shimmer that gives you the perfect glow. Perfect for brides, I’m currently using it to fake my pregnancy glow!

ELF Cosmetics Highlighting Holographic Duo in Blue Lagoon (gifted)

The duo contains a half pan of soft purple shimmer and a half pan of pale green shimmer. When powers combine, it gives you a very neutral shimmer highlight effect. This is a super subtle option for the highlighter averse crowd.

Erborian Glow Creme (gifted)

This is literally Kevyn Aucoin’s Ibiza in a lightweight yet ultra hydrating facial lotion. Apply all over or strategically to the apples of your cheeks, brow bone or bridge of your nose. It’s super subtle and on the very rare day when I don’t want to wear makeup, this is an awesome substitute to give me a slight glow. Note - it is scented, but the scent is very light.

Wunder 2 Prime & Behold Primer (gifted)

Although this is a primer, if you apply it to your entire lid and don’t apply eye shadow to your complete lid, this primer will peep through with an iridescent subtle purple shade. I used it in a previous look I posted and you can read my review of it here.

ELF Cosmetics Lip Lacquer in Purple (gifted)

Definitely, this is for the dramatic bride. If you don’t mind having a bold pout, this shade will most definitely do the trick. Although it doesn’t show up in my pic, it has a subtle shimmer to it. ELF’s glosses don’t have the staying power like other brands (even within the same price range) so be prepared to reapply throughout the day. Note though that this isn’t a dupe shade for Ultra Violet but more of a berry purple.

Make Up For Ever Eye Shadow in #92 (eye shadow pan under ELF duo highlighter) (purchased)

Although I don’t wear this shade often because it is so bold, it’s definitely got that look-at-me flair. Make Up For Ever offers highly pigmented makeup so whether you’re fair or darker, this shade will show up true on your skin tone.

Lit Cosmetics Glitter in Disco Diva (center below Kevyn Aucoin) (gifted)

I’m not much for glitter because it makes my eyes itch just thinking of all the possible ways it can get in my eyes and cause irritation. But if you’re seriously committed to Ultra Violet, Lit’s Disco Diva is a great accent for a bold purple look.

Milk Makeup Holographic Stick in Supernova (gifted)

This is literally a creamy stick version dupe of Kevyn Aucoin’s Ibiza. It applies very bold so apply sparingly and be prepared to blot if you feel it’s too intense.

NYX Cosmetics Lip Luster in Violet Glass (purchased)

This is a richer, high gloss faithful dupe for Ultra Violet. It definitely offers staying power and is IMO more of a buildable intensity versus a one and done coat. Note though, NYX’s vibrant lippies have a tendency to stain so be sure to use a very good primer before you apply.

NYX Cosmetics High Voltage Lipstick in Twisted (purchased)

This is like a more moisturizing, low gloss version of the ELF shade. It is a shockingly bright purple, but it’s not exactly Ultra Violet. But, like with the other NYX lippie, be sure to use a good primer.

Colourpop Creme Gel in Descanso (above the NYX lippies) (purchased)

Looks are deceiving with this gel liner as when you first receive it, it looks matte purple but once you begin using it, you see a noticeable iridescent shimmer.

ELF HD Blush in Showstopper (purchased)

Sadly I didn’t realize until after I took the pic that this is a discontinued color (at least online). However, I have seen it in Old Navy and various other retailers that carry ELF. But if you happen to come across this this shade, it offers a very gorgeous deep berry stain for your cheeks.

ELF Cosmetics Highlighting Holographic Duo in Mermaid Tail (gifted)

Okay so this is IMO the MVP of this Ultra Violet makeup roundup. It’s a near perfect dupe for Kevyn Aucoin’s Ibiza and the Milk Makeup Holographic Stick. Especially as a Kevyn Aucoin dupe, ELF’s duo pans combine the lightest and darkest shades of Kevyn’s ombre. You can of course play with intensity by adding more of either the soft purple or the rosy shade. And as an added bonus, this is a budget friendly alternative coming in at at only $8 compared to Kevyn’s $58 and Milk’s $28.

Safety wise, we always want our beauty products skin friendly. We all know that every product varies on skin types. But it’s kinda annoying to always have this skin check. Sephora Spring Sale: Dates, Discount Codes & Recommendations

The Sephora spring sale is right around the corner.

It’s been more than 30 days since I started self-isolating during this pandemic. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to work remote and continue earning a paycheck. I know that is not the norm for millions of Americans right now. My blog has always been an escape from my full-time job for several years. Now, during a pandemic I think my blog has also become an escape for my readers.

During these uncertain times, I won’t be splurging on a bunch of products like I have in the past. There are a few products on my wish list and then I need to restock on a couple of items. This is my first time being able to shop as a Rouge member (I reached the spend threshold last year).

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: Prior to discovering this, I was using Vaseline on my lips before bed. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Vaseline but this is luxurious treat for your lips. It comes with a tiny brush (so you can scoop out product without having to dip your finger in the jar) and after a good night’s sleep, you wake up to healthy, glowing lips. I also like the Lip Glowy Balm (in Berry or Pear).

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40: ‘Tis the season for sunscreen (even if we’re quarantined). If you frequently take walks or go for a run to clear you head, then you still need some SPF. I like this one from Supergoop because it feels weightless and wear well under makeup.

Makeup

Tarte Tartelette Tease Eyeshadow Palette: This has been a long-time everyday eyeshadow palette. There are six neutral powders, organized from light to dark. The darker shades are highly pigmented. I know some may not be wearing much eye makeup these days in quarantine; however, if you’re looking for a petite everyday eyeshadow palette, this is only $19 before the discount.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: This is my favorite concealer to cover up redness, dark circles and immediately brighten the under eye area. I wear the lightest shade, Chantilly, and always restock during a sale because it is pricey. It has a radiant finish so if that doesn’t work for you and you have oily skin, try the Soft Matte Concealer (I have that too and it offers great coverage).

Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer: This has been my go-to bronzer for several years. They expanded the shade ranges to include caramel (medium deep) and toasted (deep). For me, the Hoola Lite (perfect for porcelain skin types) shade adds warmth to my face without looking orange.

Fenty Gloss Bomb: If you’re working from home and taking Zoom conference calls left and right, then you’ll probably appreciate a good lip gloss right now. This Fenty lip gloss has shea butter so it will continuously keep your lips hydrated and the shades are so gorgeous. I own this shimmering pink shade, but it also comes in clear, shimmering pearl, rich brown and rose nude shades.

Clean Beauty

Kosas Tinted Face Oil Foundation: Here’s a clean foundation I have tried and liked. It offers lightweight coverage to cover up any redness and uneven skin tone. It’s like the clean version of my Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint.

Indie Lee CoQ-10 Toner: I really like this alcohol-free toner. It’s hydrating and soothing on skin after you cleanse. I like to soak some on a cotton pad and apply all over my face but you can also spritz over your face after exercising for a quick refresh.

Ren AHA Body Serum: I’m really into body creams and serums right now and I would be remiss to not share this product recommendation. This designed to naturally exfoliate your skin, leaving you with a healthy natural glow. This formula has a tingling sensation but nothing that feels remotely uncomfortable—just make sure you don’t apply it on your face, neck or décolletage!

Drunk Elephant Marula Face Oil: OK, this face oil is expensive but I received a deluxe sample size when I purchased the Sukari Babyfacial and I just love how soft and hydrated my skin feels when I use this after exfoliating. I have really dry skin and this works very well; however, I only recommend using it at night because I’m not sure it would wear well under makeup.

15 Under $50 - Fall Haul

It doesn’t feel like fall yet. 

But it’s coming, I promise. I’ve already lit the pumpkin candles and bought the candy corn (don’t judge my love for candy corn). I’ve pulled my sweaters out of storage and come to the annual realization that I need more. Over these past few year, I’ve felt that Fall has been so short, but so sweet. I try to soak up as much of the season before the bitter cold of Winter comes far too soon. So I’m filling my shopping carts with my new Fall Essentials before the temperature even dropped below 70. Let’s get into it. 

1. Chunky Cable Knit Cardigan by DREAMERS BY DEBUT at Nordstrom- $49 with Free Shipping

Fall means layering and neutral layers are the key to putting the comfiest and most stylish outfits together. This chunky sweater is available in all sizes and another trendy fall color, mustard.

So I’m currently in the process of making my Fall/Winter travel plans and I’m buying a beret. I’m going to admit it, I never really had acne. So I’ve lived my life pretty clueless when it came to skincare. The ultimate fall palette. Seriously, 35 fall shades with a mixture of shimmer and matte textures that can be used for so many different looks. I am a huge Morphe eyeshadow fan and think that the shades are super blendable and pigmented. I have also used this palette throughout the year for everyday and glam looks. Of course there is a lipstick fall essential. This Tarte Lip Sculptor is half lipgloss and half lipstick bullet with super hydrating coconut oil. It’s super long wearing and available in neutral and fun shades. How great is it that you can have one go to lip product for 3 different lip looks?

Plaid is always on trend throughout fall. This grey mini skirt with the ruffle detail is the perfect combination of girly and chic. Like I said, while we might all be feeling fall, the Mother Nature isn’t exactly following through. This lightweight skirt is the perfect way to feel like fall, but not overheat in the “fall” heat.

TJ Maxx has online shopping. This is a fact I found out pretty recently and I am the opposite of mad about it. I love the treasure hunt that is Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Home Goods. It’s the thrill of the good deal and now I can do that through my laptop. The important thing about this Fall Essential is that it charges your phone. Apple orchards don’t have outlets. Football stadiums don’t have outlets. But your clutch will. I think the color combination is perfect for fall and you’ll be able to capture every autumn memory without missing a thing because of low battery.

Everyone needs good Fall denim. Can’t you just see yourself in these... and the chunky sweater and the loafers... see what I did there? I don’t spend money on sunglasses. I don’t ask for sunglasses as gifts. I lose, break, step on, sit on, throw out all sunglasses. There is absolute no point in me having expensive shades. The Kylie Cosmetics Metallic Liquid Lipsticks are shimmery, metallic liquid lipstick’s that have a very thin, light, cream-like moussy consistency.  They don’t have any clumps of glitter, and the metallic pigments are packed right into the actual colour, meaning there is no visible shimmer particles that you can feel on the lips. All of the shades have extremely high pigmentation, are fully opaque and are not sheer or transparent at all. They are extremely easy to apply, they glide onto the lips so smoothly and they are not streaky or patchy. The doe-foot applicator in the metallic’s works perfectly with the formula and delivers an intense, pigmented, colour pay-off in one easy swipe.

The metallics are not matte, and they do transfer onto things because they do not fully dry down. They do slightly dry down after a few minutes but for the most part, they stay nice and creamy. When I was doing a transfer test, a lot of pigmented transferred onto my hand, but when I looked in the mirror, there was still a nice, pigmented stain on my lips.

This means that even though they don’t last on the lips as long as matte liquid lipstick’s, they do have a fairly decent staying/lasting power.

I would be confident wearing the metallics out in public for hours even if I couldn’t keep checking it in mirror’s because I find that they leave the lips nicely over time, without making a fuss and leaving a massive mess. Unlike Kylie’s Matte Liquid Lipstick’s, the Metallics feel extremely comfortable on the lips. They are so lightweight that you can hardly feel that they are there, which as I said, is a massive turn-around to how her Matte Liquid Lipstick’s feel.

In regards to the shade range, I absolutely love every single shade. They are so flattering, don’t sink into the lines in the lips, and just give the lips such a beautiful, metallic appearance. I am not sure why Kylie has forgot about this formula. She hasn’t introduced any new shades into the line for ages, except here and there for limited edition collections, and I would certainly love to see some new metallic, permanent shades released in the future.

All in all, I absolutely love the Kylie Cosmetics Metallic Liquid Lipsticks. They have a beautiful, lightweight, comfortable formula and deliver such a highly pigmented, metallic, pretty finish. The formula is consistent across the shade range, meaning that all of the shades perform the same, which is a very big plus for me because you know what you are getting, no matter what shade you get. The metallic’s are deffo a winner for me!!

Cheat Sheet: Markup face beauty

Wash your face.

Wash your face to remove any unwanted oils or old makeup. Use a cleanser that is marketed as gentle or pH-balanced. These cleansers won’t dry out or irritate your skin.

You can also choose cleansers that match your skin type. For example:

If you have dry skin, use moisturizing cream cleansers.

For normal skin, use a gentle cleanser without any microbeads or exfoliants.

If you have oily skin, use an oil based cleanser. These cleansers will reduce your skin’s oil production

Moisturize your skin. You should always moisturize after washing your face. There are many different kinds of moisturizers to choose from. For example, if you spend a lot of time outside, choose a moisturizer with sunscreen in it to protect your skin. Other considerations: If you have oily skin, choose an oil free gel moisturizer. This moisturizer will soften your skin without stimulating oil production. If you have dry skin, choose a lightweight cream moisturizer.[2] If you struggle with acne, choose a moisture with salicylic acid in it.

Spread primer onto your skin.

Primer is a makeup product that fills your pores and smooths your skin in preparation for foundation. To apply primer, dab a small amount onto your cheeks, forehead, and chin. Blend the primer into your skin using your fingertips or a foundation brush.

Tinted primers can be used to correct color problems on any skin tone. For example:

If you have dull skin, use a light pink primer to give your skin a healthy glow.

If your face looks sallow, use a lilac tinted primer to neutralize any unhealthy tones.

Green tinted primer neutralizes uneven redness or acne spot.

Apply a layer of foundation. Foundation evens out your skin tone and gives you a beautiful glow. To apply foundation, dab a small amount on your cheeks, forehead, chin, and the bridge of your nose. For light coverage, use your fingertips to blend the foundation towards the edges of your face. For a heavier coverage, use a damp beauty sponge to blend the foundation into your skin.[5] Make sure you use the right color of foundation. The right shade should be invisible on your chin and neck in full daylight.[6] If your neck and face are different shades, match your foundation to your neck. Otherwise, you will look like you’re wearing a mask.[7]

Use concealer to erase any blemishes.

Concealer can be used to cover up acne, red spots, or dark circles under your eyes. For heavy coverage, use a liquid foundation and apply it with a small makeup brush.

For lighter coverage, use a concealer stick. Blend the edges of the concealer into your foundation to give yourself flawless coverage.

You can use your fingertips, a q-tip, or a makeup brush to blend the concealer.[9]

Buy a concealer that matches your foundation exactly. If possible, buy within the same brand to be sure that the colors will match.

Apply translucent setting powder. Translucent setting powder is a clear powder that locks in foundation and soaks up any excess oil that your skin produces. Apply a thin layer of setting powder all over your face with a large fluffy makeup brush. Make sure to blend in the areas around your eyes and mouth to avoid any cakey buildup. Choose a loose powder instead of pressed powder for a lighter coverage.[10]

Fill in your eyebrows.

If you already have dark, well-defined eyebrows, you can skip this step. Otherwise, use an eyebrow pencil that closely matches your hair color to fill in your eyebrows. Use short, dash-like strokes to create small “hairs” on your skin. Next, use a dry makeup brush to gently blend the eyebrow pencil into your natural brow.

After you fill them, define and shape your eyebrows by combing them with a colored brow gel or wax.[12]

You can buy eyebrow kits for your hair color. These kits usually include an eyebrow pencil, an eyebrow brush, and shaping gel or wax.

Brush on some blush. Use a blush brush to apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Use long, smooth motions to blend the blush towards your temples. Focus on blurring the edges of the blush and creating a natural-looking glow. Use a blush that matches your skin tone. For example: If you have fair skin, choose a baby pink or peach blush. Medium skin tones should wear apricot and mauve blushes. If you have olive toned skin, wear an orange peach or rose pink color. Dark skin tones look best in bold raisin purples and brick reds.[13]

Apply eyeshadow.

For a simple look, apply a darker color to your creases and blend it onto your eyelids. Next, brush a lighter, shimmering tone onto the center of your eyelids.

Purchase quality eyeshadows that won’t wear off throughout the day. Additionally, choose shades that match your eye color and skin tone. For example:

Blue eyes look best with pinks and corals. Green eyes are complimented by colors with red undertones such as maroon and apricot. Brown eyes can wear any color but look especially good with bold purples.

Choose shades that match your skin tone. Cool skin tones look best with wintery colors while warm skin tones look best with earthy colors.[15]

Use eyeliner to enhance your eyes. First, purchase high quality eyeliners that won’t smudge or wear off throughout the day. Next, apply a small amount to each eye and examine them for differences. Add more eyeliner where needed to make your eyes match.[16] Eyeliner can be used in a variety of ways. For example: Draw a thin line of eyeliner along your lash line to make your eyelashes appear thicker. Use liquid eyeliner to draw dramatic cat eyes.[17] Use bright turquoise or gold eye liners to bring a splash of color to your look.

Apply mascara.

Lean your head back and look forward to hold your eyelashes away from your face. Hold the mascara wand near the base of your eyelashes. Move the wand from side to side to press the wand bristles between your eyelashes. Draw the wand up along your eyelashes to coat their entire length.

For a natural look, choose a dark brown mascara. For a smoky, bold look, choose a carbon black mascara.

After the mascara dries, apply another coat to further define your eyelashes.

Wear lipstick or lip gloss. Choose a bright color that makes them pop. For a bold, heavy lip coverage, use lipstick. For a lighter, shiny color, use lip gloss. If you’re worried about your lipstick or lipgloss smearing, line your lips with a lip pencil before applying your lip color. To avoid getting lipstick on your teeth, gently suck on your index finger. This will rub away any lipstick inside your mouth. Use a makeup brush to apply lipstick. The color will last longer and you’ll have more control over your application.[19]

Use mineral foundation.

If you are worried that regular foundation will worsen dry skin or acne problems, mineral foundation may be a good alternative. Mineral foundation won’t clog your pores and is more gentle than regular foundation. However, if you don’t blend it in with a foundation brush, it will appear cakey and powdery.

Use small, circular motions to blend the foundation into your skin.

Liquid mineral foundation is great for people with dry skin. Alternatively, if you have oily skin, try powdered mineral foundation.[20]

Apply BB cream. BB Cream is an all-in-one cosmetic that acts as a moisturizer, primer, and foundation, reducing the amount of time it takes to put on makeup.[21] Additionally, It has a light coverage that can look more natural than other kinds of foundation. However, BB Cream usually doesn’t provide enough coverage to erase blemishes or sun spots. Some people use BB Cream as a primer underneath their regular foundation to help cover scars and severe acne blemishes.[22]

Experiment with contouring.

Contouring is a makeup technique that allows you to subtly alter your face shape. To do so, apply light and dark shades of foundation to add shadows and highlights in places where you don’t actually have them. However, contouring takes a lot of time and is generally seen as too much trouble for daily use.

If you want to look like a particular celebrity, you can find many contouring tutorials online to help you achieve that look.

Contouring compacts can be bought online or at beauty supply stores.

Apply bronzer.

Bronzer is a makeup product that can be used to give your cheeks a sun-kissed tone. Additionally, bronzer can be used when contouring to create natural-looking shadows under your cheekbones. Bronzer is usually applied with a rounded, fluffy powder brush.

Bronzer can be purchased in powder form or as a compressed compact.

Select a bronzer that is one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone.[23]

Use highlighting powder.

Highlighter can give your skin a healthy glow and enhance your favorite features. Most people apply highlighter along their cheekbones to enhance their natural bone structure. However, you can also apply highlighter to your forehead and chin to give your skin a dewy finish.

Use a large, fluffy makeup brush to apply a thin dusting of highlighter onto your skin.

Choose a highlighter with golden undertones instead of silver. This will give your face a soft, bright glow.[24]

So, during my daily perusing of Walgreen’s website, I found a new brand that looked interesting. That brand was CYO Makeup. So, I brought some things to test out the brand. Now, I wasn’t able to buy every product they had online, but I was able to get enough to create almost a full face.

  Products (and Details):

The Eyeshadow Palette (Rainbow Warrior) in Pack a Punch, $7.50: “All eyes on you. Super versatile shadows that are set to stay. The palette features 8 velvety shadows, an eye primer and 3 light reflecting metallic creams to softly illuminate your lids. A range of finishes let you define, shade, contour and highlight your way to endless looks that take you from daytime to playtime”.

  While, the colors aren’t anything I haven’t seen before, the colors within the palette are nice everyday shades. The pigmentation is okay, not bad, just okay. It’s just you got to work for it to show up (at least on my skin tone). However, I would say that the gold cream shade, while sheer is absolute gorgeous. If this wasn’t a cream shade and you put down a base color first, then this shade would be out of this world. Also, I don’t feel like the mattes are velvety as the claims say, they are chalky to me. I wouldn’t buy another one of these eyeshadow palettes, unless the fix/change the formula.

The Metallic Liquid Lipstick (Magalasting Shine) in shade Dial 911, $6: “Explosive metallic color with effortless application. A silky smooth formula with added vanilla fragrance. Pout perfect for up to 12 hours”.

  First off, this is just a liquid lipstick, it is not a MATTE liquid lipstick. I admit that I brought this thinking it was. Now that, that is out of the way. This is so beautiful. The pigmentation is amazing and vibrant. To me this is more of a very pigment gloss, than a liquid lipstick. However, it is not goopy or sticky. This isn’t going to last a long time, but while it’s there you are going to love it. Also, it makes your lips look so plump. I would definitely be purchasing more shades.

The Illuminating Mixing Cream (Turn on The Light) in shade Raise a Glass, $5.50: “Turns up illuminations or sunkissed-ness to pimp foundation, serum, moisturizer & even bare faces. Gives good shimmer (glow-y, not glitter-y) to look lit-from-within in a bronze or shimmery, strobe-y way. Facts? Formulas are high on pearl and low on sparkle for results that are more inner light. Less shine all night. Tired looking skin in need of a reboot? It’s all yours. Where to use? You choose”.

  When I first tried this, I was quite skeptical. It was just so white. It didn’t look like had any luminosity to it and that it would be too light for my skin tone. But, after I blended it in, that all changed. Talk about shinning bright like a diamond or should I say galaxy. I would purchase this again and I can’t wait to try the other shade.

The Long Lasting Foundation (Lifeproof) in shade 113, $7: “Creamy, lightweight foundation that really goes the distance. Smudge and transfer free, this formula will leave skin looking fresh and flawless around the clock, without the cake-y feeling (ugh). 15 medium coverage shades are available, buildable and comfortable to wear, virtually everyone can get in on the action”.

    I am not sure how I feel about this foundation yet. I have tried it three times, and those three times I had different impressions. One day I like how it turned out, but the next time I used it, I hated it, and the last time I tried this out I was greatly confused. In some places, it looked okay, but others weird. It could have been the primer or the mixture of products I used on top of it. Whatever it was it just didn’t turn out so good. As of right now, I wouldn’t purchase it again. However, I am willing to try this out until I get a definitive answer.

The Powder Blush (Crush on Blush) in shade Strong Words, $3: “Blush to amplify your cheeks! This blusher gives skin a vivid pop of color, for a luminous and radiant finish that’s here to stay. The formula is easily buildable and effortlessly blendable for an easy way to sculpt your look”.

  This is super pigmented. A little really does go a long way. When I first applied this, it quickly went to clown face. That might be a problem for some. It has a smooth texture and goes on easily. So, there is no need to dip your brush in multiple times. I would definitely be purchasing more shades

And, the Fixing Powder (All Set) in “shade” Clear, $5: “Translucent, weightless powder to prevent makeup from melting away. Suitable for all skin tones, this powder sets your face to extend the wear of your makeup without making it look dull or flat. Minimizes shine and visibly reduces the look of pores and imperfections. This is an essential that’s here to stay”.

  This is another product I am not sure about. When I put it on, I had no problems with it. It is finely milled, and truly translucent. But, in flash photos, it makes my foundation look lighter than what I see in person. Now, I could be one of those people who don’t know how to shade match, but even if that was so, the foundation wouldn’t look to be my color in real life, but another when pictures are taken unless the flash back was real strong. I am going to keep this because of the fact it is a nice powder, but I would take pictures with it and I don’t think I would purchase this again.

  Overall Thoughts:

There is nothing special about the packaging, it is just simple. Now, I am not saying that it is a bad thing, I am just stating a fact. The lettering is decently sized for easy read. And, everything (but the shade name which is written on the label) is written on the product. For the price, I would say that everything has a decent amount of product. For example, the metallic liquid lipstick has .21 fl. Oz., while Ofra Cosmetics Metallic Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick has .21 fl. Oz. and Nyx Cosmetics Liquid Suede Metallic Cream Lipstick had .13 fl. oz., And, the foundation has 1 fl. oz., which is normal for a foundation. The wear time for these products is normal for a typical day, about 4-5 hours minus the liquid lipstick. Out of the 6 products I bought, I would only repurchase 3 of them. Nonetheless, I am willing to try out more from the CYO brand.
