Dissidia Opera Omnia : Force Weapon partner connection (PART 5/?)

Minwu - Kurasame (Life Connect) : Masked men. 😷 Sacrificed their life force for something greater and believes the younger generation will lead the world to brighter future.

Minwu used all of his power, cost his own life to open the seal in Tower of Mysidia to help Firion obtain Ultima's Tome. Minwu stated that the fate of the world rests on Firion's party in the end of Soul of Rebirth together with Ricard, Scott and Josef, believes the future of their world are now in good hands.

Kurasame offered his life force to help Caetuna summon the Verboten Eidolon, Alexander during Battle at Big Bridge which lead to Rubrum's victory. Near his last moment, Kurasame stated that Class Zero are strong and believes they will be able to keep walking toward the future.

Ironically, Kurasame also sacrificed himself in the prequel novel to became a L'cie to summon Knights of Rounds.

Vaan - Machina (Rapid Chase) : Protective to their childhood friend who are also their love interest. Their older brother died and blame their death to others.

Vaan and Reks were taken in by Penelo's family and is protective to her. They started dating at the end of Revenant Wings. Reks died from the wounds he got during the battle in Nalbina Fortress and when he met Basch, Vaan blamed him for Reks's death but has let go his hatred and realize Reks's death is a part of Vayne's schemes.

Machina is protective to Rem since she suffered from illness and both are survivor from their village. They are married some time later after the war is over and Orience is free from the crystals. His brother, Izana died during Milites's invasion to Akademeia and after he learned "the truth", started to blame Class Zero for Izana's death. Unfortunately, Machina was too late to apologize…

Hope - Eald'narche (God's Vessel) : Interaction in Arc 3 Chapter 3. APTX4869 Adult trapped in younger body.

Hope was used by Bhunivelze as his vessel and spent 169 years molding him into a perfect "pure and innocent" host by regressing him in age to meet his standard.

Eald'narche's aging stopped the moment he came in contact with Mothercrystal thus acts as "the younger brother" to hide his true motives.

to refresh your memory and a spoiler : Eald'narche desires to restore the balance of the world by strengthen the power of darkness. He returned Hope and Caius's slit in Chapter 3 and planned to use Hope due to power inside his slit but his plan ultimately failed in Chapter 10 caused 'Hope' did the opposite.

Celes - Basch (Change the Air) : High-ranking military officer who were branded as traitor and imprisoned. Fills the "tank" role in Opera Omnia.

Celes betrayed Gesthalian Empire after she learned Gesthalian Empire is evil, imprisoned in South Figaro and scheduled to be executed but freed by Locke who was infiltrating the town.

Basch was framed as the traitor of Dalmasca and the king-slayer though the fact Gabranth impersonate him. He was announced executed but remains imprisoned in Nalbina dungeons and freed by Balthier, Fran and Vaan on their way to escape the prison.

Aranea - Fang (Speerstoßwelle) : Female "dragoon" with independent and straightforward personality. Both are the leader of their own group.

Aranea worked as mercenary and hired by Niflheim Empire as the Commodore of Airbone Unit but resigned after Diamond Weapon attacked Gralea to help the refugees and reformed her mercenary group.

in Lightning returns, Fang is the leader of group of thieves based in Dead Dunes called Monoculus with the goal to find the holy clavis.

Fang's Limit Break in XIII and EX Skill in dffoo shared the name with Aranea's surname.

Dorgann - Auron (Future-weaving Sword) : The previous generation of heroes that "stopped" the main threat and stayed in different world as the observer.

Dorgann is the member of Dawn Warriors who fought and sealed Exdeath thirty years before the event of FFV. He stayed in different world (Bartz's world) to protect the Wind Crystal and watch over the world.

Auron serves as guardian during Braska's pilgrimage to fought Sin ten years before the event of FFX. To fulfill his promise to Jecht, Auron stayed in Dream Zanarkand to watch over Tidus.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Uhhh okay so I'm such a fucking sucker for when a character's mask involuntarily slips, but I also fucking love when a character intentionally lets down that mask as a gesture of trust. fucking kills me every time. In Red Gaia, you've got when Vee drops her unaffected shtick around Tifa and starts being full and genuine with her. And in DV, you've got when Akechi surrenders their knife to Kasumi, and early on the scene where Ren drops the lies fully for Ann that just fucking kills me every time.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

@lilyhoshikawa hooked me on scar imagery, @mcpuliotjr hooked me on egg imagery, but. masks. masks are all me. i mean it's big inspired by persona 5 obviously but i think the initial piece of media that made me start obsessing with masks was Bleach. if you know you know.

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?

Always. always always. I sometimes have to pause it to think through tricky parts but music helps me so so much. g-d bless character playlists, really.

song wise ive been listening to the hosiers and des rocs a lot, but Worried About Ray has been my repeat song for a few weeks. still hits so hard.

💖 What made you start writing?

Can't remember! I was like eight, and I was always obsessed with stories and storytelling and it felt natural to me to make my own stories

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

Column A, column B? If it's a big fic I've already outlined at least a chunk of it in my head, and I often have to write down those details to keep from losing them. Even then, I often and up coming up with stuff midway through writing that I'd never considered, or making big changes on the suggestion of my beta readers (hi jane <3). with oneshots, it's full on pants. I get a basic idea and just sit down and flow thoughts and see what happens.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

G-d. how can I even pick. Uhhh. Ann Takamaki probably. G-d I love her and I love writing her. She's so angry and loves so fully and like ALWAYS has a strong opinion about everything and I love that about her. I also adore her friendship with Ren SO much aaa they're so good for each other.

Haru...I love her so so much but she's got like five million masks that it's sometimes hard to hit on what she's actually feeling at any time. I'm confident about how she'll react, I'm just not always sure what she's feeling.

Akechi's also really fun to write but I'm not nearly as good as Jane and Jae at writing them djfgbjb.

🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?

I'll share a few actually. All from the same oneshot, which is fully first-drafted but i have no idea how to properly contextualize it without getting into my five million unposted headcanons about a Final Fantasy mobile game.

The Irregular at Magic High School (Collab) Note: There was a collab between Final Fantasy Agito and The Irregular at Magic High School LOST ZERO. These are the conversations from the bulletins. Prologue

Kurasame: As you may have already heard, we are pleased to welcome a pair of temporary exchange students from First High School in association with the National Magic University. Machina: International students?! We have a program like that? Kurasame: It is rare, but it isn’t unheard of. It’ll only be for a short period of two weeks, but I hope you'll get along.

Episode 1

Miyuki: It's nice to meet you, everyone. I am Miyuki Shiba. I'm from First High School, affiliated with the National Magic University. Tatsuya: I'm Tatsuya Shiba. A pleasure. It won't be easy for you to tell us apart if you refer to us by our last name, so "Tatsuya" is fine. Miyuki: Please, refer to me as "Miyuki" as well. Miyu: I am the cadet representative, Miyu Kagirohi. I welcome you both. Ace: I'm Ace. Nice to meet you, Miyuki, Tatsuya. Deuce: I'm Deuce. I'm pleased to meet you. Trey: I'm Trey. We may not have much time together, but I hope we can get along. Tatsuya: (Ace like "A", Deuce like "2", and Trey like "3"... I don't know if they're necessarily meant to be numbered, though.) Tatsuya: You all seem to have numbers in your names. Cinque: Eh? Numbers? Ace: Now that you mention it, you're right. Cinque, even your name means "five." Cinque: Hmmm? I seeee. Miyu: In Orience, names are often derived from numbers. However, it is unusual to see so many assembled in such an orderly fashion. Tatsuya: (So, it's a coincidence. Perhaps I'm just being nosy...)

Episode 2

Miyu: I've heard that the magic you use doesn't require the power of a Crystal. Would you kindly teach me about it? Tatsuya: If you don't mind the layman's interpretation. Miyu: Of course. That will do. Tatsuya: In our world, all phenomena is believed to be recorded in individual information, which we refer to as "eidos." The magic we use modifies the phenomena by altering the definition of its eidos. Nine: Modify? Phenomena? Tatsuya: For example, if you wanted to move a dolly with magic, that would first require you to cast a spell to accelerate the object, then a spell of movement, followed by a spell to decelerate the object, and lastly, a spell to stop it at its destination. Four magic spells become one. Miyuki, please demonstrate. Miyuki: Yes, big brother. Jack: Uwahhh, that sounds like a pain. Miyuki: It's not as difficult as you think. Ace: Our magic is granted to us by the Vermilion Bird Crystal in order to fulfill our grand role. The power that was passed down to individuals is managed and categorized by the Sorcery Division. Miyuki: The Vermilion Bird Crystal, you say...? Miyu: Indeed. All of our magic is thanks to the power of the Vermilion Bird Crystal. Each spell possesses an attribute such as fire, ice, lightning, wind, holy, and dark. Miyuki: Your method of classifying magic by elements is different from ours, I see. Miyu: For instance, let's see... This is "fire" magic. Tatsuya: ?! Miyuki: Big brother, what's wrong? Tatsuya: I thought I saw something odd... Rather, I should say that I didn't really see anything. Miyuki: Do you think that Rubrum's magic isn't utilizing psions? Tatsuya: I'm unsure. Nonetheless, I find it intriguing. Tatsuya: (Does this mean that the Crystal is even handling the output of magic formulas?) Tatsuya: If you wouldn't mind, could I take a look at the Vermilion Bird Crystal? Miyu: My apologies, but the Crystal is kept in strict security. Even we aren't allowed near it. Tatsuya: Hm, I understand... Pardon me for asking.

Episode 3

King: The handgun you carry... It isn't really a handgun, is it? Tatsuya: This is a Casting Assistant Device (CAD). As its name suggests, it's a device which assists in the invocation of magic. Despite its form, it isn't a weapon. Eight: Oh, so it's something like Cater's magic guns? Cater: Really? Lemme see that for a sec! Tatsuya: I don't mind, but precise adjustments must be made to the CAD depending on the user and its means of use. It's necessary. Using another person's CAD would be... inadvisable. Cater: Firaga! Flare! Holy! Whoa, this feels great! Miyuki: Cater, could it be that your magical computing characteristics are similar to my brother's? Tatsuya: No. To begin with, that CAD doesn't include the activation sequence for Rubrum's magic. Miyuki: That's true, now that you mention it. Tatsuya: Is it because psions have little effect on Rubrum's magic? It's very intriguing, but it seems it may be impossible for me to look into it. Miyuki: If you're interested in it, then there's nothing beyond your knowledge, big brother. Tatsuya: Don't speak the impossible. This exchange program is only for two weeks. Cater: I think I've taken a liking to this thing. Hey, Tatsuya, feel like trading it for my magic gun? Tatsuya: ... Tatsuya: If it's an unadjusted FLT monitor device, then I don't mind. However, instead of a gun, I would rather receive something I could give to my sister as a present. Miyuki: Big brother? Aren't you interested in the Dominion's magic? Tatsuya: It is a fine opportunity for abroad learning. But making more memories with you would make me happier than obtaining more formal knowledge. Miyuki: No way... Making memories with me is really more important to you, big brother? Tatsuya: (I think she may be interpreting that in her own way...)

Episode 4

Miyuki: Regretfully, the exchange program ends today. Tatsuya: That it does. Miyuki: These two weeks went by in a flash, but we must thank you for your hospitality. Miyu: Likewise, we must thank you as well. We learned a lot from you. Ace: The time really flew by... Queen: I feel a bit sad. Tatsuya, Miyuki, take care. Cater: W-wait! Wait a minute! Miyuki: Cater? Cater: Everyone worked together and made uniforms for you.

Seven: With this many, you'd even have enough for your friends, wouldn't you? Tatsuya: We could distribute them to not only each student, but to every student from First to Ninth High School. Sice: Yeah... We kinda went overboard, didn't we? Miyuki: Yes. It is a bit much. But it's appreciated.

It's as though you aren't my sister. Miyuki: It suits you, too, big brother. You look like the hero of an adventure story who fights against everyone and everything in the world for the one he loves. Tatsuya: (Can you call that type of guy a hero?) Tatsuya: It's almost time. Miyuki: Though parting is such sweet sorrow, it looks like this is farewell. Miyu: Let's meet again. Until then, goodbye.

VIDEO GAME RECOMMENDATIONS

in here is a list of my favorite video games! i put my reviews in here too along with the characters that i simped for asjfhdf

final fantasy ii (released in 1988; platforms: playstation, playstation portable, game boy)

this wasn’t my first final fantasy game (i wasn’t even born when it came out 💀) but i was first introduced to it when i was playing dissidia and uh... wow is firion hot

simp list: firion & emperor mateus (they’re just pixels in the game, but you should see them in dissidia 😩)

final fantasy vi (released in 1994; platforms: wii, playstation, game boy)

let’s just assume that i discovered all the earlier games through dissidia okay? anyways, about this game... i fucking hate clowns. the antagonist, kefka palazzo, used to genuinely scare me when i played (he’s a clown btw). i would honestly rather be stuck in the sewer with pennywise than be in a room with kefka

final fantasy vii: crisis core & remake (org. release date: 1997, but the remake came out on 2020; platforms: playstation 4 & 5 [remake] and nintendo switch, playstation, playstation portable, xbox 1 [org.])

oooooohhhhh my god. okay, so i never actually played the original because i wasn’t even born then, but i actually found out about the games... through the MOVIE. yes, you heard me right, they have a movie called “final fantasy vii: advent children” go check it out!

now back to the game. admittedly, i only played the remake, but i know enough about the original through various fanfics hehe. the plot is so fucking good and engaging, but it can get a lil confusing because there’s so many additions (additional games and movies, etc), but it’s worth it

i think there’s like a remake??? idk about it but apparently it was really bad so just play the original! anyways, the plot of the game was so interesting to me?? it was a lil more melodramatic than final fantasy vii, but my favorite thing has to be seifer’s character. won’t say much, but he’s one of those “misunderstood villains” and was manipulated, used, (possibly mind-controlled) etc. 😔

GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS! i absolutely love this game (specifically x-2) because in the previous games, the playable main characters were always dudes... but in here we get THREE GIRLS IN THE MAIN CAST!

ahhh, finally the first ever final fantasy game i could actually play recently after it was released (and by recently i meant 3 years afterwards LOL 😭). this game was so cute but so tragic at the end... the worldbuilding was good too, but also hella messed up like wtf

final fantasy xv (released in 2016; platforms: playstation 4, xbox 1)

my second final fantasy game! honestly, the only reason i played it was because noctis reminded me of sasuke and i was going through my naruto phase back then 💀 anyways, i loved this game so much because the plot was engaging, THE GRAPHICS WERE SO BEAUTIFUL, and the characters were well-written

dissidia final fantasy nt (released in 2015; platforms: playstation 4)

materia was heeellla annoying, but whatever. the game was still fun and what i love about dissidia games was that it basically just has almost all of the popular and beloved final fantasy characters pushed into one and just... pit them against each other lol. this was also the game that introduced me to the older final fantasy games, which was a plus!

dissidia final fantasy: opera omnia (released in 2017; phone app)

nt had amazing graphics, but what it failed at was gameplay and plot. that’s where opera omnia comes in. it’s just a phone app, but don’t underestimate it! it has a much more interesting story compared to what nt gave us

kingdom hearts series (first game was released in 2002; platforms: playstation 2, 3, & 4, nintendo ds, nintendo 3ds, nintendo switch, game boy, xbox 1)

i love this series so much, but i cannot for the life of me understand the plot. it is the most convoluted shit ever, it’s so confusing that it could even make dumbledore look like a clear and honest mentor who doesn’t hide things from people 💀 gameplay is awesome tho, just DO NOT try to understand the plot. you never will.

persona 3 (released in 2006; platforms: playstation 2 & playstation portable)

i love the persona series jaksefahjs. also, the main character, minato arisato, is my favorite protagonist out of the series because he’s literally... a door. LOL. you’ll get what i mean when you play the game 😂

persona 4 (released in 2008; platforms: playstation 2, 3, & vita)

i love how the previous game was about accepting death and misery and all that shit, and then in here it’s all bright and happy with the occasional murder. also, the mc is so smooth wtf. it kinda has that ‘power of friendship’ theme that i hate, but it’s okay here!

simp list: yu narukami (the cHaD), rise kujikawa, kanji tatsumi, & yosuke hanamura

persona 4 arena ultimax (released in 2013; platforms: playstation 3 & 4, nintendo switch, & xbox 360)

this is just like the dissidia games and I LOVE IT! it’s basically a crossover between persona 3 & 4, where all these characters are sucked into another world and have to work together to figure out what’s happening. i love the story and the characters interactions!

simp list: everyone, lol. the new antagonist, sho minazuki, is cool too ig

persona 5 & persona 5: royal (5 was released in 2016, royale was released in 2019; platforms: playstation 3 & 4)

so royal is basically like a revamped version of the original game. idc which you should play, but both are still super amazing. royal includes more hours of gameplay, additional characters, and gameplay features. the stories are both similar, but royal adds more to it

persona 5: strikers (released in 2021; platforms: nintendo switch & playstation 4)

this is a sequel to persona 5 (the original one, not royal). the gameplay is different, more specifically, the fighting sequences. instead of having characters each take a turn to attack, in strikers, it’s basically an all-out fight and rapid button-mashing. i love it.

fire emblem: three houses (released in 2019; platforms: nintendo switch)

this is my first ever fire emblem game. i was hella confused by the fighting gameplay because it felt kinda like chess with how you had to move the characters to certain spots and how some weapon types were weak to others, etc. it took a while to memorize, but it’s easier to play once you get the hang of it. the plot was hella good too and i love how you can romance the characters lol

fire emblem heroes (released in 2017; platforms: phone app)

first ever phone app i actually got addicted to wtf 😫 this is just really good, okay?? the story is engaging, the artwork is perfection, and i love the gameplay. my favorite part is how much of an absolute SIMP alfonse is for us

i only ever played this game because of nero 🥵 but i don’t regret anything. i LOVED the angry bonding between nero and dante, especially the part where he just straight up impales his uncle 😂 he’s just like his daddy 🥺

Finally, time to write this. This is based on the game and the manga spin-off, F.inal F.antasy Gaiden, The Ice Reaper. As well as my own interpretation of Milites technology.

First, the Crystals in the game represent the elemental crystals that are known in the franchise. They give power and magic to the people around them. In Type 0, they brand certain loyal people to them and give them a Focus--their mission.

For Byakko--Milites, the Crystal power revolves around Mechanical Technology, armors, weapons, etc. Unlike other Crystals, Byakko’s Crystal is confined and being experimented on it instead of being in a Peristylium. Not only that, Milites people do not worship or revere the Crystal as any other nation does. The Crystal simply a source of energy to them.

Milites Technology

Magitek (魔導, Madō, lit. Magic), or magical technology [1] is the Technology that Byakko uses thanks to the power of the Crystal. Unlike the other nations, they have strong firearms ranging from their infantry’ weapons to their proud Mageitek Armors that can be piloted to raise havoc with. All that thanks to the C-Engine that they developed to harness the Crystal’s power.

In the spin-off manga, we know that Crystal Jammers were not a thing in Kurasame’s time and they were developed after the whole incident with the Four Champions of rubrum as a way to defend against strong cadets. Crystal Jammers are simply the power harness from the White Crystal with certain calibration it will interfere with the Red Crystal, therefore nullifying its effects on the Rubrans. However, this does not work on Class Zero because they do not draw their energy from the Crystal directly like the other cadets.

Milites uses also Magitek Armors which are the gundam of type 0. They are piloted by a person, has a lot of ammo and firearm to take down an army. They are strong by as any machinery, their weakness will always be Lightning magic attacks, thus why they want to improve their production by sending prototypes at the cadets to learn their fighting pattern and devise suitable countermeasures.

Magitek Prosthetic Parts were not introduced in the game but in the spin-off manga, the ice reaper where we see a character called Morse who got his arm cut by Kurasame, returns with a mechanical arm.

Morse’s arm

In the manga, Morse is the first character that is shown to use a magitek arm--mechanical arm. His arm enabled him to shatter Kurasame’s blade with punching it (one puuuunch~), it has a machine gun built into it,

as well the ability to harness a magic barrier from it because it uses the crystal’s power, or so I assume going by his movements in that the scene where kurasame uses magic on him.

Even though it enabled morse such strength and more weapon, it was not sturdy to withstand a direct slash to it.

That is why, after nine years of developing, Einar’s arm was produced to be a better and efficient version of what Morse had.

Einar’s arm

Unlike Morses’ arm, it is more humanoid looking so it can pass by like any human arm if it was covered. Einar’s arm is the strength built type, not the varsity type which means he has no built-in weapons but a hidden knife that comes out below his wrist when he needs it. His arm is meant to be his trump card in case he was in a dire situation. Being in Byakko, the coldest country, the arm is created to prevent any bite frost or any issues that come along with having a prosthetic limb in cold or hot weather. However, daily maintenance is advised for any agent or soldier who has a magitek arm and if they can’t do it themselves, they are strongly advised to check in with the lab for instructions. Weather like Concordia does not affect the arm but it will certainly be an obstacle in case it was covered with cloth since the cloth will be damp because of the constant rain in some parts. Otherwise, the arm is good to function in any weather. It took them 9 years to develop better versions of the magitek parts for soldiers to use, each depends on the soldier's capabilities and need.

Again, it is meant to look humanoid as possible (but hey i suck at drawing give me a break it should look cool mechanical arm but jazz hands this is the best i could do. And oh yeah einar has a tat of byakko.)

Einar will not reveal this arm unless it is a must like losing all his weapons, sword and twin gun and is forced into hand to hand combat.

His arm will withstand sword slashes, gunfire, magic to some extent and force impact (like in eight’s case--his style of fighting is a martial art) Though, his weakness is thunder magic but he will be very careful about revealing that part as well.

This arm enables Einar to use his right arm like a normal right arm, using his sword, gun, punching, holding etc. Though, because it is prosthetic, he can’t feel anything like touching someone or being touched. It is only meant for fighting which is why he relies on his left arm for any normal activity.

Opus Explorations - FF8 In depth

FF8 is my favourite of the Final Fantasy's and the release of a new Squall sees the perfect excuse to try and get an 8 themed deck into play (I would have tried anyway). You should by now already be well aware of the issues facing FF8 in FFTCG, Edea is the nuts but is limited to mono lightning, the next 3 best cards are all called Rinoa and the EX searcher can't search the main protagonists' Legend card. If this is going to do well (or at least vaguely OK) then we will have to show some restraint and not go all in on the FF8 characters, bulking out the deck with some strong supporting plays. I felt the best balance for this was in mono ice, as we can employ some key characters (Squall, Rinoa, Laguna, Ultimecia), take advantage of powerful cards available to the element (Genesis etc) yet still maintain some kind of tangent theme.......Time Compression (aka dull/freeze). This deck is full of dull/freeze mechanics, I personally find full on discard a bit grubby. We want to be on the front foot so ideally we want to get 2 backups down early and then starting putting pressure on the opponent with our forwards. We should be able to control their response by locking it down or removing it. I'll start with the FF8 crew..... Squall x2 - Of all the main protagonists, Squall has probably had the roughest deal in terms of the cards he's been given and for some reason he's usually focused on discard. I'm going for the new one here but you can pick whichever you want (5 drop hero might be a good shout). This new one is at least on curve at 8k. His first ability should be fairly easy to get off and is a nice bonus but we will focus more on the second ability with our dull/freeze theme and try and work some ways to make this worthwhile without messing up our own gameplan. Laguna x2 - Weird art but searches Squall so gives us a bit of tempo and might even sneak a point of damage early on. Also means we can keep Squall at 2 copies and make space for some better ice cards ;) I'd love to see a Laguna backup. Rinoa x3 - I've gone for Opus 2 Rinoa mainly because of her synergy with other VIII forwards. We should be able to get her some boosts (I want to say pump her) so she might be quite formidable even though that does slightly go against her break effect. It's still relevant though and awkward for your opponent to play around (fingers crossed full art Yuna is just used for peoples collections). Ultimecia x2 - Probably a 1 of but with our theme it sucks to see it early and have to ditch it so will go for 2. Still a relatively new card and has 2 nice effects. ��I don't see the 6 damage situation being a strategy we want to pursue as with ice we want to be on the front foot, instead this will help reinforce the advantage. Don't be afraid to play just to get one effect off, we don't mind paying 6 as this might enable Squalls ability as well. Yes I know, Orphan is a better 6cp ice forward but this is an 8 deck (feel free to swap with Orphan haha) Cid Kramer x0 - He doesn't exist. Why not! In chapters he searched Squall or Seifer and gave them haste. Can we get that now please. OK our fan service is over, let's look at the rest of the forwards.... Lasswell x2 - 2cp on entry removal option, should be able to attain the 7k, awesome card. Palom x2 - A bit of Opus 8 flavour. Rich hates this card so I'm desperate to fuck him over with it. He thinks dulling all the backups is irrelevant...until we follow up with Ultimecia mwah haha! The effects are all actually decent for a 2cp forward. The freeze will probably be most useful. Garland x2 - Marmite card from spoiler season, I think it's gonna be good so let's give it a spin. More dull freeze options but with a dull bonus of not choosing. Opponent is most likely going to dull their lava spider every turn though. Time Mage x2 - More Opus 8 flavours that fit in with the dull freeze theme. I originally had White Tiger L'Cie as the idea of making opponent pay an extra 3 for a Diabolos is quite appealing. I've gone for this to give it a try but I'm not sure we need it. Most likely this will go for Bablizz. Genesis x3 - Don't think this needs explanation. #bangenesis used to be a thing. Kuja x1 - Perfect turn 1 play to generate 2 cp. We want him in the break zone as he's there for the backup recycling ability. EX burst is a juicy bonus if it comes up. Kurasame x2 - We are running all 3 of the Type-0 package so will get the search (EX too) and boosts the other forwards. If we can get him down for 4cp with Enima we're in Value Town! Next up I'll go through the backups, there are 8 different ones which all have a purpose but only 5 spaces available, hence the Kuja incase we need to get something else in mid/late game. Legend Aerith ruins the fun slightly so fingers crossed everyone goes for the new forward. As I said, try and get two cheap backups down early and start playing out forwards to apply pressure. Continue building up the backline as we go. Jihl Nabaat x2 - The Calamity meta makes this quite essential, protects from Fusoya, Alhanalem etc. I want to play x3 EX Jihl and x3 Cocytus. Maybe I'll stop being a pussy and go for it. Emina x1 - Playing this turn 1 will feel sweet. Makes Kurasame and Kazusa 4cp and can be searched. Once that's done Kuja it away. Cocytus x 2 - Playing this turn 1 will feel shit. Sexy Jihl's lazy eye'd cousin. EX conditions shouldn't be too much of a problem to achieve and if played to field at the right time it's really good. The Emperor x3 - Have you tried this yet? I reckon probably not. It's actually bonkers. Once you are ahead in board state this just hammers home the advantage every turn. On 5 backups we can happily empty our hand and discard 2 for the effect to break a forward and then follow up with Squall's ability. Duke Larg x 2 - Ice booster, pretty standard and +1k is always nice to have out, particularly with ice's undercurve power. Terra x2 - Dulls a forward when you cast a summon. Haven't seen this used very much, I think it's underrated. Once it gets going it's so cool. When I go through the summons I'm going to remind you of this each time, kind of want this at 3. Snow x3 - 3 might be too much but at 2 when you don't see it you wish you had 3. Some people say this is shit, but the reality is if your opponent can't deal with it it's gg. At 4cp make sure you play it on a turn you will get value out of it with some attacks. Heca and Alexander are about so this probably won't survive many games. I'm tempted to run Doctor Cid as a deterrent. Kazusa x2 - We shouldn't have much issue with dulling forwards so let's smash one with 10k. He breaks himself to dull 2 as well. A bit telegraphed once they see Emina and Kurasame are out or you search him but we have dulls for days so not much they can do about it. I think most people forget he exists anyway. OK, finally the summons, they are all dull focused and mostly called Shiva. Remember every time you cast one, Terra can dull something as well. Shiva x3 - An ice staple, can be used on defence or attack. Dulls 2, oh wait with Terra it dulls 3. Shiva x3 - EX burst and damages a dull forward. Will be loads of Shiva in the break zone so you should be able to pop whoever you want. Oh yeah you get an extra dull on top with Terra. Shiva x1 - The EX burst is nice but as a stock cast, 2 freeze is pretty good.....if 1 of the targets is active, Terra dulls it as well. Shiva x2 - The new Shiva! Choose 3 forwards or monsters, dull them and freeze them. Brutal. Only in your turn though...booooo. Imagine being able to dull 4, if only there was a way. Zalera x1 - It's not called Shiva! 4 is the key number at the moment so I've only gone as 1 of. Doesn't suffer from choosing though. A nice follow up to a dead Rinoa or a Time Mage. Terra stacks as well to add someone else to the resolution pot if needed. Did I mention I like Terra? Hopefully you get some joy out of this or worst case it inspires some new ideas for your own deck. Maybe one day we'll see a FF8 starter deck.

White Lie (Rem x Deuce)

Rating: Teen and Up Audience Archive Warning: N/A Category: F/F Words: 2,663 Summary: After a week-long mission, Rem and the others await for their comrades' return. Their returns were drastic and horrid, but it appears that Deuce is in near-pristine condition. Unfortunately, Rem finds out that there's a bit more to her girlfriend's appearance...

A/N: This is for a good buddy, Rin. Dragging me to the rarepair scene like there’s no tomorrow. (Then again, I’m one for Deuce x everyone, lol.) I had fun with this!

War was always something she hadn’t enjoyed. It was a necessity, but the collateral damage crushed her spirit. Guns blazed over the flames, ice and lightning burst overhead, wyverns and machines unleashed unimaginable strength, shrieks and blood coated the land. Students sprawled for miles on end, their body parts churned through a nightmarish wheel of fate. Innocent civilians were executed by stray bullets and used as blackmails. War crimes are at an all-time high after the broken peace treaty, even more so after the Fabula Pact.

Rem Tokimiya thumbed the knowing tag over her neck. Iron lingered on her taste buds, the metallic sensation disrupting her olfactory. She chewed the bottom of her lip. They were living in Hell, and there was nothing they could do about it.

“Ah— They’ve returned.”

She snapped her head to the front entranceway after Eight’s announcement. The two, along with Machina, watched the double door creak open. Slow as the process may be, out flowed some older cadets, stained and dirtied with grime and blood. Rem sharply inhaled. Their weary features blackened the sparkles that had once been contagious. One of the students had lost a limb, his friends supporting his hobbling. Another student had lost an eye, her stares hollow, fingers occasionally touching the crimson patch. Eight and Machina exchanged worrisome looks.

“I’m… I’m sure they’re okay,” Eight weakly punched his palm, albeit his tonality wavered. “We’re Class Zero.”

Ace, Deuce, Nine, and Queen were tasked with an important mission. Ordinarily, all 14 members of Class Zero would participate in the fight. They were always together… even Rem and Machina were included. This time, Central Command ordered the squad of four to participate in a special operative. An imperial officer had defected from the Milites Empire. They, accompanied by a pack of cadets from other classes, were to travel to the snow-covered Mt. Acrid in West Nesher and take the officer into custody.

‘ Deuce never liked the cold… ‘

Compared to the hardy Ace, Nine, and Queen, Deuce was the weakest of them all. Consistent exercises in the training arena did not do much to alleviate the pitiful stats. If she had frozen to death... Rem’s thumb hastens, her hues pointed at the pouring soldiers.

“Is there a reason as to why they weren’t healed?” Machina grumbled. "What happened out there?"

One of the better-looking cadets stopped in place. He turned to Machina. “We ran out of potions and were low on magic.” He shook his head, his shoulders slumped. “I thought we were prepared, but we were overwhelmed.”

“We should count our lucky stars, chap,” his ally brushed his shoulder. Walking ahead, the student murmured, “We made it out alive.”

Machina, Eight, and Rem felt their blood freeze. Sunny as the rays may be for this afternoon, they shivered, their bones rattling. These grave words were only soothed by the fact they remembered Ace, Deuce, Nine, and Queen. They’re not dead, but…

“Ace—!”

Machina rushed forward, his vermillion cape audibly flapping from behind. He was the first to approach their classmates.

Nine hand his arm slung over Ace’s shoulder; the dried blood smeared from his head. The scarred lancer grimaced.

“Oi, ya lover is here, Acey.”

The disheveled Ace felt steam blow from the top of his head. If Nine were not injured, the blonde would have walloped the dragoon into submission! Instead, he ignored his friend’s lousy remark, a faltered smile formed.

“Machina… I’ve returned.”

Nine scrunched his nose to exaggerate distaste as their exchanged continued. He was stuck in the middle like a third wheel, an angry throb pulsating from the corner of his head. Out of all his returns, this had to be the worst one of them all. (Even the time Queen punched him in the guts after a mission failure was better in comparison.) Nine grumbled under his breath, his eyes shifty between the two boys. Machina fawns over Ace like a doting mother… He’s more of a mother than Mother Arecia herself.

“Ugh, if only I hadn’t saved yer ass, I would’ve been fine and dandy like you.”

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Nine.”

“Urk… I think I feel sick…”

“From your injuries?”

“No, from YOU TWO.”

It was almost as if their troubling times with the operation had not existed, the three babbling and squabbling like little children. Other cadets and officers expressed disdain from nearby. But none dare speak up. They know the harsh truth. These are children—unfortunate children conditioned for war.

Eight and Rem, on the other hand, heeded far more attention to the other females, the petite boy extending his hands out.

“Easy there…” he whispered, allowing Deuce to transfer the weak girl over. Queen, who had been struggling to stay conscious, finally crumpled upon taking a step into the academy’s ground. Had it not been for the flutist and Rem’s reflexes, the sword user would have fallen to the floor. Eight narrowed his eyes from the stickiness. “She’s lost a lot of blood.”

Deuce, who appears to be the healthiest of the bunch, lowered her head.

“I tried to heal her…” Tears prickled, the flutist’s nails digging into her palms. “She protected me. If… If I had only been faster—!”

“Deuce,” Eight’s eyes softened. “It’s not your fault. I’m sure Mother can heal her.”

He glanced over to Ace, Machina, and Nine. Then, he looked at Rem and Deuce.

“I’m going to find Mother. I’ll see you guys later.”

He promptly disappeared from the scene. The other boys quelled their conversation, but only temporarily. Nine eventually barked that Machina and Ace take him to the infirmary. That left the two girls stranded by the entranceway.

“Deuce…”

The calling of her name prompted Deuce to close their distance. Deuce grabbed ahold of Rem’s hands; those hands were enveloped with a warmth that starkly contrasted to the winter storm from her week-long mission. Her thumbs smoothed the cadet’s hand and smiled.

“I’m back, Rem.”

“Deuce!”

“#$%@&*!” An incoherent outcry startled the wits out of nearby officers from the sudden lunge. Rem, known for her passiveness, acted out of character. She launched herself towards the bard without a moment of hesitation. Deuce stiffened, her eyes wide, and squirmed in her crushing embrace. “R-Rem— Ow! That hurts!”

That was odd. Rem immediately pulled away. Deuce’s respiration had quickened, sweat poured forth from her pores, the metallic smell beginning to waft into her nostrils, and her smile now strained. Rem frowned.

“Deuce! Are you hurt?”

A hesitant shake of her head. “No.”

Now that was odd. Deuce would normally speak up about her injuries. She was the frailest member in the class— or even the entire peristylium! Injuries that could be shaken off by many would render the girl handicapped. Students and commanders that participate with her in battle know all too well to keep her safe from harm’s way. (A recent example being Queen’s protection.) Rem knew that too, hence her majestic capabilities to shield her. All these protections led to Deuce holding the best record for staying alive in any given battle… and for holding the least number of scars on her figure.

The familiar iron tickled Rem’s nose, only it was getting stronger. She began a thorough examination of the flutist’s body. Not a speck of blood seen on the girl, save for the occasional dirt and torn fabrics. Astonishing when consideration is taken to her sense of smell. It had to come from somewhere. Rem pat the girl’s arms. No reaction. She slid her hands onto Deuce’s shoulders and provided another pat. No reaction yet again.

Meanwhile, the young girl tried to inch away from Rem…

“Don’t move.”

Deuce felt a chill run down her spine, her legs halted in place. She gulped. Rem was intent on keeping her still during the examination. Not that it took long anyway. The youngster jabbed her index upon Deuce’s modest chest, causing the musician to wince. Rem retracted her finger. One look was all it took, traces of magma-red staining the pigments. Beads of sweat flew out of Deuce’s head at the sight of her comrade’s intensity. A forced giggle erupted from her throat as she weakly flailed her hands.

“Y-You know, I have to go see Mother—”

“Deuce.”

“YES?!”

Rem huffed. She shook her head, reached out to Deuce, and proceeded to drag her away from the area, despite her weak objections.

“Rem, can I see Mother, please?”

“…”

“I-It’s kind of urgent…”

“…”

“R-Rem?”

“…”

Silence was the only response she could give. Dread shadowed over Number Two as she shifted her gaze elsewhere. It was rare for Rem to act this way. The last time she acted this way was when they got into an argument over her illness.

Deuce vividly recalled their raised voices. Tonality that was never heard before to the public were exposed like an open book, their stubbornness bashing against each other. Deuce had shaken her head more times than she could count with two hands. Rem was as stiff as cardboard with hands on her hips. The fight took about a week to recover from and the members from Class Zero had no idea how to bring them back together. (It was thanks to Kurasame and, surprisingly, Sice that encouraged them to mend their relationship.)

Could this be another heated session? Deuce felt a shade of red discolor her cheeks, albeit for a different reason.

They eventually reached Rem’s dormitory. The door cracked open, she single-handedly motioned for the brunette. Deuce timidly scuttled inside before Rem clicked it closed. She seated herself on the mattress after a silent urge from the female.

“Clothes.”

Deuce really didn’t want to do this… but she adhered to Rem. Who was she if she were to ignore her girlfriend’s request?

She unbuttoned and unclicked her uniform. Bit by bit, she stripped her upper wear until she was left with nothing but her bra. Rem sharply inhaled, all forms of frustration eroded.

“Oh, Deuce…”

Scratch marks, likely from a machine, tore through the chest’s epidermis. Though it appears as though someone had cast a healing spell or used potions on the infliction, the gash had not fully sealed, blood oozing from two of the three cuts. Amongst the other scars that lightly riddled the brunette’s porcelain skin, this one was the worst of them all. Perhaps it was a blessing from a divine spirit that prevented the injury from sinking its lacerations deeper than the surface. Had it touched her heart…

Rem shooed the thought away. She immediately cleaned the bloodied mess.

"How in Orience did you hide this wound?"

"..."

"Deuce?"

"I... got a spare uniform. It was cold, so I carried extra in case I got wet."

"I see."

Soon, Rem hovered her palms over the cadet’s chest, soft green light emitted. Deuce let out a shaky exhale. The throbbing that once plagued her cavity had now dissipated. (Granted, they were bearable this morning, but the freezing temperature had dulled the pain receptors until her return.) She dryly swallowed and watched her girlfriend.

“Why did you hide this from me?”

“…I didn’t want to worry you.”

“Didn’t you just scold me about this?” Rem sighed. “You should practice what you preach.”

Deuce gently bit the inside of her cheek, her eyes downcast. “You’re right. I… I’ve never sustained any injuries like this… and I thought I could go to Mother to heal me.”

“Huh, Mother…”

Rem removed her hands. (Thanks to her high capability of magic, spending Cure on her fellow ally hardly wasted her breath, especially if it’s for her dear Deuce.) Now that the gash left nothing more than faint lumps, the brown-haired began to trace the scars. Deuce nearly let out a squeak as the cadet allowed her mind to wander.

‘ Deuce… aside from Machina, everyone in Class Zero had always spoken about Mother Arecia. ‘

Adopting children was not rare in Orience. Orphans from war and brutality were common. The lucky bunches would be picked up from the streets and served in manors for the riches and most elite. The unlucky bunches would be picked up from the streets and served as slaves or prisoners for the ruthless and heartless. However, it was sincerely an oddity to have someone pick up 12 children almost all at once.

“I’m sorry, Rem… for lying to you. I’ll tell you the truth next time.”

“That’s okay. I forgive you.”

Rem felt her heart clench. She had to forgive Deuce. There was no other way to teach Deuce what was right and what was wrong.

She and Machina knew more than them. Even the oldest member, Seven, possess very little knowledge about social and general knowledge about the world. When they were asked about the war, all 12 members claim to enjoy fighting. They've trained all their lives, never rewarded for their deeds, stuck out like a sore thumb from the mass, yet they stood proudly without shame. The members were conditioned, and that too applied to Deuce.

When they privately spent time together, the child would always point out the most obvious and ask questions about it.

"How are flowers grown?"

"Why is the sky blue?"

"When is the right time to tell someone you like them?"

"Rem, what is this feeling in my heart every time I see you?"

"My heart aches when I see you with Machina... Do you know why?"

"Rem, what does ' love ' really mean?"

There was so much for her to learn… especially in the form of love. Had it not been for the valiant efforts of Rem’s confession, both Deuce and Rem would have been left with an awkward two-sided love that would go unnoticed by the two crushers. (Porn books by Jack aren’t exactly helpful.) If Rem didn't confess... what would have happened to the two of them?

“Rem? Can I put my clothes back on?”

She snapped back to reality. Deuce, whose cheeks were on fire, was trembling under her ghostly touches.

‘ Oh. She’s half-naked. ‘

Rem pulled back her hand once again, the temperature from her face rising in conjunction. However, what retracts was replaced with something far more pleasant. She leaned in to plant a brief kiss on the flutist’s lips. Butterflies fluttered inside of their stomachs, the faint tingles sparking from the sensitive pink flesh once they parted.

“Promise me you won’t do that ever again,” she breathed, her eyes staring deep into the other's. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind Deuce’s red ear. Then, Rem pulled her into an embrace, her head buried into her shoulder. She deeply inhaled the fresh, rainy scent that always accompanied the bard. “Promise me that you will come to me first for healing.”

A shudder. Deuce slowly brought her arms around her girlfriend and leaned her head against Rem’s. “What if my injuries are too much to be healed by you?”

“Who says I can’t?”

“Well… then what if I needed to be revived?”

“I’ll search the entire continent to find a Phoenix Down.”

“And if you can’t?”

“I will.” Rem parted from Deuce and caressed her face. Thumbs smoothed her silky skin as she whispered, “I will always bring you back to life… just like how you brought me back to life with those three words.”

Deuce giggled. They went in for another tender kiss, the two disregarding the earlier request to redress. Blissful love showered upon the couple as Rem was eventually stripped down to her undergarments. There wasn't one moment where they looked away from each other, even as Deuce plopped back on the mattress and Rem hovered from above. They nuzzled their noses with bright smiles.

“I love you, Rem."

"I love you too, Deuce."

It was safe to say that after that long and romantic evening, Deuce kept her promise with Rem. Not that she needed to keep it in the first place as Rem accompanied her to every single battle afterward... much to the dismay of Kurasame and Arecia.
