My favourite niche of horror will forever and always be lighthouses. The isolation. The dread. Whenever a protagonist is in a lighthouse, they’re cut off from the rest of the world. Especially in horror, the atmosphere of terror they create is peak because it’s a simple enough space to navigate with not a lot of places to hide and, that’s want makes it so scary. The waves crash loudly against the shore but, inside, all you can hear is the sound of your own heartbeat as it becomes louder and louder. Your heart beating out of your chest. Because you know The Danger isn’t hiding. It can’t. It doesn’t want to. And if you just turn around then, well.

Nautical/Sea things

the wind in your hair

the salty smell of the ocean every morning

tiny drops of ocean on your skin, the waves crashing against you ship

studying maps late at night only with the light of a candle, trying to figure out why there is a x on that island in the middle of the ocean

reading books about sea beasts, wondering if you'll ever get to see one

late at night, when noone is around, you hear mysterious singing - sirens, perhaps. or the sea is messing with you

the night sky, ready for you to count the stars on it every time

sea songs while you work

dolphins swimming next to your ship, calling you to join them

whales singing, their voices soothing, warming your heart

how to recognise the stars and constellations and the myths behind them (if you go stargazing)

the victorian language of flowers (to send secret messages to your friends)

morse code (same as above, plus it could save your life)

how to survive in the wild (speaks for itself)

biology/animal/human anatomy (its just. so interesting)

differerent types of seashells (again really interesting)

poisonous plants and their uses (DO NOT POISON ANYONE THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEAN. but you can recognise if one plant is poisonous and. you know. save smb)

learn about other cultures (food, clothes, myths etc. always be respectful tho <3)

read philosophy

read the illiad or the odyssey (the real ones. its so interesting)

honestly anything you are interested in is so cool learning about!
