Racists be like, “Please stop singing the non-racist anthem! Can’t we just go back to the quietly racist anthem?”
Although “The Star-Spangled Banner” and all of its verses were immediately famous, Key’s overt racism prevented it from becoming the national anthem while he was alive, Morley wrote. There was no official anthem, and many people chose to sing other songs, like “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”

Key’s anthem gained popularity over time, particularly among post-Reconstruction White Southerners and the military. In the early 20th Century, all but the first verse were cut — not for their racism, but for their anti-British bent. The United Kingdom was by then an ally.
After the misery of World War I, the lyrics were again controversial for their violence. But groups like the United Daughters of the Confederacy fought back, pushing for the song to be made the official national anthem. In 1931, President Herbert Hoover made it so.

“The elevation of the banner from popular song to official national anthem was a neo-Confederate political victory, and it was celebrated as such,” Morley wrote. “When supporters threw a victory parade in Baltimore in June 1931, the march was led by a color guard hoisting the Confederate flag.”

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, it would not be until June 19, 1865 that word reached Galveston, Texas when Major General Gordon Granger proclaimed freedom for slaves in Texas.
Happy Juneteenth!

We’ve seen your Hero design without his helm, but what about the others with their masks? Are they removable?
Okay!! People have had way more questions about the masks than I anticipated but thanks to the expanded Fury route I finally have some answers! The masks CAN be removed! The catch being that without the mask, they cease to exist :). What this looks like for the Fury Route's "Unwound" ending is as follows:

And to expand on this, the masks CAN be taken off by themselves:

Hope that answers your question :D

One of the artists commissioned to create a new work for the 1939-40 World's Fair was the sculptor Augusta Savage. A leading member of the Harlem Renaissance, she was the only black woman to be so honored.
Her piece, intended to celebrate African-Americans’ contributions to music, showed a kneeling black man holding a bar of music and 12 black chorus singers representing strings on a harp, the sounding board of which was no less than the hand of God. She called it Lift Every Voice and Sing, a nod to a poem by her friend James Weldon Johnson that was later set to music and adopted as the black "national anthem" by the NAACP.
The work stood 16 feet tall and was made of plaster that had been lacquered to look like black basalt. She was paid $360 for it (around $8,000 in today's dollars) and it was placed in the courtyard of the Contemporary Arts Building, near one of the Fair’s gates. Fair officials renamed it The Harp, which Savage reportedly hated. Small metal replicas were sold as souvenirs, and images of it were reproduced on postcards.

When the Fair ended, Savage had no money to remove and store her sculpture, or to cast the large piece in bronze, as she had with other, smaller works. So, like all the other "temporary" artwork created for the Fair, it was destroyed by a bulldozer.
In 2017, a NY Times op-ed piece by the filmmaker Aviva Kempner proposed that a full-size replica of the sculpture be created and placed in front of the National Museum of African-American History & Culture in Washington. So far, there has been no movement towards carrying that idea out.

Say about red vs blue whatever you want but it is fucking comedy gold. The dialog is hilarious, dumb and clever at once and the flow is amazing and the interactions so organic (also the voice acting is A+). And season 6? Reconstructions?
Like, the shift of it. Its still silly and dumb and they are so far from competent but putting agent Washington into the mix is soo good. Like before it was a bunch of bumbling fools trying to deal with whatever dumb shit but really not wanting to and generally making things worse. Now you have wash who is driven and goal oriented and driving the narrative compared to the blood gulch crew who was mostly unwillingly draffed along by the narrative (and now Wash lol).
And the back and forth of the chairmans and the directors letter? The way it gives us crombs and little implication but not really any explanation but as time goes on you can slowly puzzle it all together. The ever growing hostility and intensity of the exchange.  The way it all falls into place at the revelation of the ai. The impact of washs line of “You are the alpha” (and frankly how fucking hilarious churchs reaction was).
The joke about the reds deleting the blues from the database as just something dumb they did that just happened to stop wash from proving church was an ai but actually shaped the story so much. Causing wash to end up in prison because he had nothing to prove his story and argue his case. The fact the unsc couldn’t take epsilon because they didn’t know about caboose. How wash could use that as leverage lately.
And yeah, it does not yet have the same amazing action scenes we get from this one goes to eleven on or anything but damn, the confrontation between wash, the director, the consoler and the meta was still so intense, like goddamit.
The line “And while the law has many penalties for the atrocities we inflict on others, there are no punishments for the terrors that we inflict on ourselves.”? Uff…
And by then, you know, right? But still the absolute gut punch of the seasons final words
Sincerely yours, the former director of Project Freelancer, Doctor Leonard Church.

"BULLSHIT!!"
Tumblr media
It's funny how I saw a Cheated design right as I finished my own. But without further ado, here's my Voice of the Cheated. Now as an ACTUAL girlfailure!
As usual, rant under the cut, beware the spoilers:
I gotta level with ya...there isn't much symbolism in what she wears (although the leaves on her shirt are bamboo leaves, symbolizing flexibility, strength and growth). I just wanted to try something different. Give each voice a somewhat style to easily associate with (Hero as the Knight, Oppy as the business casual, Connie as the idol, etc...). I am aware the common headcanon of giving Cheated card association, I just...didn't see that, like at all for her? Maybe it's bc I don't really see her saying "game" and such as a card game, but more in the "life's a game and its RIGGED" sense, you know. You can excuse it as New Princess, New rules.
Specific misc details:
- Her Princess was, as stated in the sheet, the Fury (Adversary route). She was NOT happy with this Princess, and kept trying to win, but without Stubborn to fuel the fire, it quickly became literally kicking a dead horse and getting it to keep racing.
- When she was unwound, she wanted to "let go", but the Player won't let her. She put them in this situation. If the Player has to suffer, so must she.
- it took a lot of empathy to reach the point where she was put back together. But the damage was done. Cheated's body was returned, everything is as it should be. Except...
- Her bones hurt. It's fine if she is just walking about, any strenuous or sudden movement, strange foods or even sitting wrong, and it will cause her incredibly painful aches and pains. In the beginning, she was on a strict regiment of medicine and exercise to do basic things. She eventually got to a point where she can go a week without feeling like shit. The pain is still there, but it's muted (for the most part).
- Her braids are Fury's own hair laced into her own (hence why they are blonde). She could rewind Cheated's body but not her hair, so some compromises were reached. No matter how much she washes it, it will always smell of dried blood. She just Gave up on washing it, after a while. And they are tight is because of how "tightly wound" she was (and not bc I had a hard time drawing braids/hj)
- Due to her stiff bones, her wings, while able to stretch to full wingspan, won't let her fly. Flapping is too painful. They are usually pressed her back or wrapped around her body.
- her tail used to have a hair tuff. But the initial stress of her situation caused her to fluff the fur off it, so now it's bald. It still hasn't grown back.
- Despite everything, she is sorry for what she did to Fury. It was her fault she got so bad, and it was her fault their bodies were this fucked. If she's not cursing the world, she's cursing herself for being so blind to another's suffering.
- she can kinda "unwind" other things too. But it's more akin to breaking them than an accurate split atom by atom. She also hates using "unwind", "rewind" or words like that to describe it.
Speaking of another...time for Shipping~
- This is how Broken and Cheated started. Broken hated herself, but she hated seeing Cheated in great pain so she became a frequent talking companion, during the first little while of recovery.
- they both had injuries to get used to. Broken lost her legs, and Cheated's bones were such a pain. And so overtime, during recovery, they started encouraging each other. Being depressed all the time was tempting, but Cheated wanted Broken to be happy. So she became her biggest supporter, helping her get used to a cane.
- Broken felt the same, and while she was still tackling her own issues, she could see Cheated was working through hers for her sake. It became a positive feedback look of encouragement on both sides.
- Their love confession was as sudden as their sudden decision to support each other. It was a late night talk, while both couldn't sleep because of pain. But they meant every "I love you" and are inseparable, after that.
- if Broken needed her meds, Cheated will bring it to her.
- If Cheated isn't feeling like moving, Broken will come to her and sit down with her to chat.
- it's worth noting that they are still the same people as their canon counterparts. I guess the word for it is "healthier". They are coping with it, and there will be bad days, but they can get through it...together.

Neuvillette's body language in my mind ranges from curious feline, to Long Cryptid that lingers just outside the door when you're falling asleep
#“Honey............... stop hovering ominously and join me in bed.” — Wriothesley#I'm on my autism agenda. So he masks#when he's outside. at work. his movements are so uncannily precise that charlotte can probably film him daily and the footage would overlap#near perfectly.#I like seeing him as a sheer force of nature too. so like. Imagine his path to his office or to his seat in the courtroom#being literally worn in by centuries of him just walking that same path. Like rivers carving themselves out of mountains#but to be fair someone probably polish the floor regularly.#but when he goes home to his husband. or when he's alone. he becomes............ creatura. apyr#and he would hover just slightly off the ground to lift the pressure of his legs (they hurt. He only uses them to look human)#and he makes weird. deep sea noises. and wriothesley is like you hungry or somethin. dinner will be ready soon darlin be patient with me#also he gets quite clingy/physical. he likes hugs a lot because he craves the pressure on his body. it reminds him of being deep under wate#he needs to be squeezed and squished. it's calming. At home wriothesley would sometime just pancake on top of him and he's be like yes.#but outside. he'd just sometime drape an arm over Neuvillette's shoulder. hold his hand. give him a hearty pat every now and then#to recalibrate him.#sigewinne voice Monsieur Neuvillette I prescribe you some Hugs! You are Overstimulated! Your Grace! Squish him!#krill#ingital#otcoj

When someone sings America The Beautiful or My Country 'Tis Of Thee, they're never met with angry boos from people shouting "that's not our national anthem".
Somehow, that response is reserved specifically for Lift Every Voice And Sing.
I wonder what the difference is.
