I keep seeing folks my age getting grumpy about early 2000s cell phone designs being described as "retro", and, like, let's be serious for once – those goofy things had kind of a retro vibe even when they were new. They were not a solution to a real problem that anyone had; they were like someone was trying to make Star Trek communicators real. Which was very cool compared to today's nondescript slabs of fragile glass, don't get me wrong, but let's not pretend we were on the aesthetic cutting edge here. It was 1960s sci-fi shit with more chrome.

Technology Interweaves My Reality
My days come in usuality, with zero conformity to certainties or set dynamics. It is true enough that I live by the contemporary truth that holds me steady and functioning — in any potential instance that may occur. Technology plays a vital role in my everyday existence from the concurrence of my interconnected routines at home, university, social, or other societal means.
From the initiation of the day, I am equipped with the reasonable need to access technology first hand. Understanding that it embodies a central advantage in expanding communication and enhancing connection, I find it efficient to make use of it in the extent that it would resonate with my goals, and it would assist me in meeting ends with other of my responsibilities.
Following the continuity of hours, I get in touch with the multitude of technological representations like the media and devices. The roles of such are hand-in-hand with the shaping of the community, outstanding factors that may subsequently affect cultural imperialism. As part of the youth and a bigger voice for the young, this is vital as it serves as a subset for the effective immersion of all interdisciplinary dealing with various global circumstances augmenting the locus of knowledge and the entrenchment of essentialism across the pursuit of promoting peace and effective intersubjectivity.
Hence, each day I spend it with technology present. From checking my mobile phone first thing in the morning to watching morning news and other multimedia arts and shows from the digital flatscreen televisions to utilizing applications like YouTube and TikTok in searching for food ingredients and cooking tutorials, not to mention the ample opportunities that the technology provides.
Technology, as an aspect in the day, may seem grounded but broad; it arises from the continuously emerging significance of applying scientific knowledge for practical purposes. Nevertheless, as it encompasses the straightforwardness of its use, it becomes an omnipotent element in my daily life that has taken impacts of a multitude of reasons and purposes in line with my personal objective to constantly develop.

A reef that has been degraded—whether by coral bleaching or disease—can’t support the same diversity of species and has a much quieter, less rich soundscape.
But new research from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution shows that sound could potentially be a vital tool in the effort to restore coral reefs.
A healthy coral reef is noisy, full of the croaks, purrs, and grunts of various fishes and the crackling of snapping shrimp. Scientists believe that coral larvae use this symphony of sounds to help them determine where they should live and grow.
So, replaying healthy reef sounds can encourage new life in damaged or degraded reefs.
In a paper published last week in Royal Society Open Science, the Woods Hole researchers showed thatbroadcasting the soundscape of a healthy reef caused coral larvae to settle at significantly higher rates—up to seven times more often.
“What we’re showing is that you can actively induce coral settlement by playing sounds,” said Nadège Aoki, a doctoral candidate at WHOI and first author on the paper.
“You can go to a reef that is degraded in some way and add in the sounds of biological activity from a healthy reef, potentially helping this really important step in the coral life cycle.”
Corals are immobile as adults, so the larval stage is their only opportunity to select a good habitat. They swim or drift with the currents, seeking the right conditions to settle out of the water column and affix themselves to the seabed. Previous research has shown that chemical and light cues can influence that decision, but Aoki and her colleagues demonstrate that the soundscape also plays a major role in where corals settle.
The researchers ran the same experiment twice in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2022. They collected larvae from Porites astreoides, a hardy species commonly known as mustard hill coral thanks to its lumpy shape and yellow color and distributed them in cups at three reefs along the southern coast of St. John. One of those reefs, Tektite, is relatively healthy. The other two, Cocoloba and Salt Pond, are more degraded with sparse coral cover and fewer fish.
At Salt Pond, Aoki and her colleagues installed an underwater speaker system and placed cups of larvae at distances of one, five, 10, and 30 meters from the speakers. They broadcast healthy reef sounds – recorded at Tektite in 2013 – for three nights. They set up similar installations at the other two reefs but didn’t play any sounds.
When they collected the cups, the researchers found that significantly more coral larvae had settled in the cups at Salt Pond than the other two reefs. On average, coral larvae settled at rates 1.7 times (and up to 7x) higher with the enriched sound environment.
The highest settlement rates were at five meters from the speakers, but even the cups placed 30 meters away had more larvae settling to the bottom than at Cocoloba and Tektite.
“The fact that settlement is consistently decreasing with distance from the speaker, when all else is kept constant, is particularly important because it shows that these changes are due to the added sound and not other factors,” said Aran Mooney, a marine biologist at WHOI and lead author on the paper.
“This gives us a new tool in the toolbox for potentially rebuilding a reef.”
Adding the audio is a process that would be relatively simple to implement, too.
“Replicating an acoustic environment is actually quite easy compared to replicating the reef chemical and microbial cues which also play a role in where corals choose to settle,” said Amy Apprill, a microbial ecologist at WHOI and a co-author on the paper.
“It appears to be one of the most scalable tools that can be applied to rebuild reefs, so we’re really excited about that potential.”"

Done for today! I've been revising and talking to my lil ghost (is this the new duck?). Have a test tomorrow, didn't study as much as I wanted to (poor time management from yours truly), but after that I'll have some more time hopefully.
Feeling a bit lonely, but it's just one of those moments that will pass.

Prompt 279
Now Danny didn’t mean to make a Bootube channel. He’d meant to send that sleep deprived ramble to Tucker, but he had clicked on the wrong app and yeah. Apparently people enjoy his space rambles- or it could have been the ghost blob-cats that had decided to flop onto him. (Honestly he wasn’t surprised they would start to mimic the shapes of things in their surroundings)
Tucker? Found it hilarious, as did Sam and Val and… um, okay this has become their shared channel now, nice. Though there are some strange comments on some of the videos. Really, what do they mean green sky and crazy tech???
#Prompts#Danny Phantom#Tucker does coding stuff & how to fix design flaws in everyday technology#Sam has a gardening & eco-awareness playlist#Valerie has stuff with All Sorts of Weapons & a mini blog of Cujo#Danny does Space stuff and he loves it#Everyone is freaking out because the videos aren’t only showing up in their world but other ones too#Also all of them are revealing a bunch of stuff that Humanity Doesn’t Know Yet#Thank you weird time stuff of the Zone#Space Core Danny#Life Core Sam#Storm Core Tucker#Metal Core Val#Are they roommates or together who knows#Ellie shows up in the background sometimes too#They do a lot of stuff in the background of each others videos#Including their food fighting#DCxDP#DPxDC#DP x Marvel#DPxBHA#Danny Phantom Crossover#Do as Many Crossovers as you Want

Okay, so: there's a local restaurant whose online ordering process involves various selecting various sauces to be included with one's order – so many units of teriyaki sauce, so many units of hot sauce, so may units of peanut sauce, and so forth.
The idea is supposed to be that you can select any combination of sauces you want, as long as it adds up to no more than four units. However, what the app actually required is that you select exactly four units of sauces; it wouldn't let you submit the ordering form if the total wasn't exactly four.
Just today I discovered that they seem to have fixed it... not by correcting the errant validation rule, but by adding a "no sauce" option, which counts toward the required total of four.
Thus, it's now possible to place an order with, say, two units of teriyaki sauce rather than four by entering 2x "teriyaki sauce" and 2x "no sauce". Similarly, an order with no sauce at all is 4x "no sauce".
This is quite possibly the least intuitive ordering process I've ever encountered, and I've literally worked in e-commerce.
