Detective Wardrobe Tag
Oh my word, THANK you for the tags @anavakarian, @followingthewolf, @queen-kass-the-writer, and @musetta3 :D Clearly I now HAVE to do this with four of you interested! ;-) Itās under a cut because... uh... I may have gone a little overboard!Ā
Fashion can reveal a lot about a characters taste in colors, designs, and practicality. Show me what your Detective wears to work, at night, fancy evening wear, and when on missions.
My Detective: Malia Corvidae
Appearance: Long black hair, light green eyes. Face Claim: Kaya Scodelario
At Work
For Work, Malia likes to be practical. She wears a buttoned white blouse, a black pencil skirt, and knee high boots with only the smallest heel she can find. She pairs these with a leather jacket that used to belong to Rook, and her black choker that she wears everywhere.
At Night
At night, Malia dresses for comfort. Loose cotton sleep pants, and a loose cotton tank top, both in plain black. This is one of the few times she removes her black choker. She has woolen fleece linedĀ āslippersā that are more like little ankle boots to pad around the house in, and while most of the time she doesnāt bother with a dressing gown, in the depths of winter with snow on the ground she will pull it out of storage. A full length house-coat in soft marle cotton, with a hood. If sheās going to wrap up warm, sheās going all out.
Fancy Evening Wear
Formal wear would be one of the few times that Malia is willing to tie her hair up. The natural waves spilling out of a simple ponytail to draw attention to her black choker. She would still be wearing it, but may have added a pendant or a couple of additional necklaces for sparkle.
Malia is also unlikely to wear a full dress, unless she can find no way of avoiding it. Sheād be more likely to wear a skirt and top that look like a dress when paired together. Her favouriteĀ āformalā outfit consists of a leather skirt and a cotton marle bardot (off-the-shoulder) shirt in dark, rich gemstone colours such as Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue, or Amethyst Purple. (Found one in red for the picture so that the details would show up better). She has a set of low-heeled lace-up boots in black velvet, and in the winter this ensemble would be paired with woolen tights for warmth.Ā
Formal wear is also the one time Malia feels like she can indulge in heavier makeup, so sheād be commonly found wearing eyeliner and blood red lipstick, no pun intended.
When On Missions
Considering that by the end of most missions, Malia is either covered in mud, blood, monster slime, some other disgusting substance she doesnāt want to know the name of, or at the very least a layer of sweat, sheās taken to stocking her wardrobe with hard wearing, basic, but cheap clothes.
She has a pair of hard wearing hiking boots, several pairs of thick denim jeans, and she has taken to buying cheap multi-packs of cotton long-sleeved shirts since most of the time theyāre beyond repair and require disposing of.
The one piece of clothing she has invested in for missions is a thermal fleece hoodie. It folds up small if she doesnāt need it, but working through the night when the vampires are at their strongest, she has found that the extra layer of warmth has come in handy more than once, plus it gives her extra pocket space.

31 Days Of Wayhaven - Day 006 - Prompt Bite
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST Iāll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!
All prompts will be about my Canon-Detective, Malia Corvidae (Mason Romancer, Nate BFF)
Day 006 Prompt: Bite Synopsis: When Mason meets Bobby, Malia has to think of a creative distraction, exceedingly quickly, to help Mason, Unit Bravo and the supernatural community as a whole, remain hidden from the local reporter.
AO3 Link HERE
Or keep reading below the cutā¦
"Your escort home has arrived," Tina teased, her body curved around the doorframe to Malia's office, a grin on her lips. Malia would have scolded Tina for her teasing, except she couldn't help her own smile as she quickly left her office before the computer had finished shutting down.
Mason lingered, with the offer to see her safely home every time his patrol ended in the area, and Tina was forever teasing Malia about his consistent attentions. Their new normal was Malia grabbing her leather jacket before accepting her bag from Tina, who was already holding the door to the station open for her.
This time, though, Tina's grin had been replaced with a grimace.
"What?" Malia asked, eyes widening as she marched over to the door to see what had soured Tina's expression.
"This isn't going to be pretty," the woman warned, hanging Malia's bag on the Detective's shoulder as her friends already pale face lost what little colour it had.
Dashing out of the station, barely checking for cars, Malia made a direct path towards Mason who had been approached by none other than her ever problematic Ex-boyfriend.
Mason saw her approaching, grey eyes settling on her over Bobby's shoulder, filled with irritation and not a shred of patience, but as she stepped closer she watched his gaze snap back to Bobby in an instant.
"What did you say?" the vampire growled. Malia was close enough to see the subtle shift from bored, into Mason readying to attack.
"...any inside dirt on Detective Corvidae, and the paper would be willing to pay you-"
Malia had a strong urge to punch Bobby, but the flash of panic she felt wasn't for the bottom-feeding reporter, it was in response to the growing snarl on Mason's lips, the narrowing of his eyes, and the growl she could feel vibrating through the air.
She ignored Bobby, stepping past him to quickly place herself between Mason's feet, rising up onto her toes to kiss him
A crude method of masking his growing fangs from the reporter, but it was the only option she'd been able to think of. She could hear Bobby spluttering behind her, but her focus was on Mason. Still tensed, and although the growling had stopped he hadn't kissed her back.
Carefully aware of Mason's hyper senses, Malia gently nipped at his bottom lip and was quite suddenly being devoured.
Pulled closer with a bruising grip on her hips, she let her fingers slide soothingly into Mason's hair, stroking gently through the strands until she felt his shoulders settle. He kissed along her jaw until his lips found his favourite spot against her neck where his now blunt teeth settled against her skin, and she somehow knew without a doubt that he was glaring over her shoulder at a stunned Bobby.
"Take me home?" she breathed softly and he agreed with a single soft grunt. Mason pulled back slowly, slung an arm around her shoulders, and led her away.

31 Days Of Wayhaven - Day 005 - Prompt Echo
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST Iāll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!
All prompts will be about my Canon-Detective, Malia Corvidae (Mason Romancer, Nate BFF)
Day 005 Prompt: Echo Synopsis:Ā Malia has always had an affinity for languages, and the first time she hears Echolian, she's determined to learn more.
AO3 Link HERE
Or keep reading below the cutā¦
Echo
The first time Malia heard Echolian was when Felix asked Nate to translate something.
They were in the middle of tracking down the source of a magical disease, so she didn't get the chance to ask either vampire about it, but Malia was determined not to forget.
She always had a knack for languages, and is fluent in around half a dozen of them, while being able to recognise half a dozen more.
Echolian, for obvious reasons, is not one of them.
But between missions she buries herself in Nate's library, digging through books and tracking down any hint of the language she can lay her fingers on.
When Nate realises what she's doing, he offers to teach her, and Malia quickly accepts.
The first time she says something to Felix in his native tongue, the vampire freezes in shock.
Amber eyes well with tears, and she finds herself wrapped into a delighted hug, picked up, and spun until Mason growls at him.
It makes the weeks of effort entirely worth it, and the months of future study that much easier to face.

31 Days Of Wayhaven - Day 004 - Prompt Nightmare
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST Iāll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!
All prompts will be about my Canon-Detective, Malia Corvidae (Mason Romancer, Nate BFF)
Day 004 Prompt: Nightmare Synopsis: When Malia has nightmares, Mason can't simply let her fight them alone. She's part of the team, after all, and that's the only reason why he lingers.
AO3 Link HERE
Or keep reading below the cutā¦
Nightmare
Malia was a deep sleeper.
She slept long, and soundly, with next to nothing capable of disturbing her slumber.
More often than not, Mason didn't even need to put his vampiric abilities to use to avoid disturbing her when leaving her apartment.
He was pretty sure he could stomp through the place with his boots on, and the woman wouldn't so much as stir.
It was as frustrating as it was endearing.
On the one hand, how was she supposed to protect herself if a stampede could run through her bedroom, and she didn't so much as flutter an eyelid? At the same time, there was a small part of Mason that wondered if she slept so soundly because he was near.
Did she truly trust him so much?
She was an idiot.
Then, there were the times she slept not so soundly.
When her adrenaline would spike, and her heart would start to race. When her features twisted into a frown, and then a mask of fear as her breathing sped up. Malia still wouldn't wake, even as her body began to twitch, her mind telling her she needed to run.
The first time, Mason had stood in her room watching her, uncertain what to do until he eventually moved to try and wake her up.
The instant his hand landed against her skin, she had settled, and Mason had needed to check he wasn't leaking Pheremones, despite knowing they didn't work on the woman.
Confused, he'd left.
It wasn't something he mentioned to Malia. There was no need. He knew she still suffered nightmares of Murphy from the times she joined him on the roof of the warehouse in the early hours, but he'd not realised their intensity.
After the first time, he stayed longer. Waking after a few hours of sleep and pacing around her apartment. Bored. Smoking. Waiting.
Malia didn't always have nightmares, but when she did Mason slid back onto the bed, and tugged her body against his own, watching her features soften back into a relaxed sleep and her frame stop twitching as her heart slowed back into rest.
He left when he sensed her slowly waking, and carefully didn't examine the reasons for his actions. It made sense, after all, for Malia to be well-rested if she was facing off against supernaturals on a regular basis, and that was all there was too it.
And if Mason made sure to ignore Nate's pleased smiles when he returned to the warehouse as the sun was rising, well that was nobody's business but his own.

31 Days Of Wayhaven - Day 003 - Prompt Family
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST Iāll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!
All prompts will be about my Canon-Detective, Malia Corvidae (Mason Romancer, Nate BFF)
Day 003 Prompt: Family Synopsis:Ā Malia's never really had what she considers a family until Unit Bravo make her part of theirs.
AO3 Link HERE
Or keep reading below the cutā¦
Family
Malia hadn't been close to her mother growing up. The woman had been far too busy with her work.
She understood why, now, but that hadn't meant anything to a teenager who lost her father and her mother in one fell swoop.
It hadn't stopped her shoplifting, because the only time she saw Rebecca was when the woman was bailing her out of a jail cell.
It hadn't stopped Malia from getting mixed up with the kind of people who left her holding a bloody bottle with a stranger in desperate need of an ambulance either.
Malia had called that ambulance, but that hadn't stopped the man pressing charges.
She'd been Sixteen. Old enough to be tried as an adult. Old enough that her mother didn't need to be called.
Captain Sung came to her rescue that day and offered her another path. Malia might have been lonely, abandoned, and scared, but she had never been stupid and she accepted his offer.
When Murphy had taken her prisoner, Malia had fought her way free of her restraints and escaped not because she was brave, or strong, or even particularly determined but because she'd never truly expected her mother's team to come for her.
Rebecca had let her down at every turn in her life, and Malia had no reason to believe that the woman's team would do anything other than more of the same.
But then she'd run headfirst into Mason. His surprise and relief almost palpable and she'd collapsed.
And he'd caught her.
Then Adam had trusted her plan.
And Nate had asked how she was recovering.
Felix had brought her balloons.
Unit Bravo had made Malia a part of their family in a more meaningful way than her own mother ever had, and it simultaneously warmed her heart and enraged her.
Rebecca wanted more now. She wanted to mend the bridges she herself had burned and while there was a tiny part of Malia that wanted that back she couldn't trust her mothers' motivations.
Each of the vampires had shown their trust and friendship in her abilities in their own way. They listened to her. Valued her opinion. They were a real team.
A real family, as Felix had put it, and Malia no longer desired the attention of a wayward mother.

31 Days Of Wayhaven - Day 002 - Prompt Fear
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST Iāll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!
All prompts will be about my Canon-Detective, Malia Corvidae (Mason Romancer, Nate BFF)
Day 002 Prompt: Fear

Fear
Simple. Uncomplicated.
Just sex.
That's what they'd said. It's what Malia had agreed to, despite knowing that she already felt more for the persistently grumpy vampire than merely physical attraction.
She was in deep and she knew it.
Even if she hadn't, the wave of disappointment every time she woke to an empty bed would have tipped her off.
It wasn't so bad though, she comforted herself, the disappointment was washed away quickly by a hum of hope. There was always next time.
No, the worst part was the fear.
Every single time Mason stood at her door, and she wondered if he would come in. Was last time the last time?
Had she wasted the last time he'd crawl into her bed on being disappointed that he hadn't stayed? Had she wasted their last kiss by sinking into the sensations instead of savouring every moment his lips were against her own?
It was a creeping, quiet. fear and sometimes she thought that Mason could sense it. When he slowed, when he let his fingers dance through her long hair and when he stared at her like he was trying to memorise her face so that no matter what happened, these memories would never fade from his mind.
She did her best to ignore it. To keep it simple. To make sure it was just sex. She'd agreed, and had no right to ask for more now and yet...
And yet...
The fear persisted.

31 Days Of Wayhaven - Day 001 - Prompt Memories
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST Iāll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!

Day 001 Prompt: Memories

Memories
It was normal now for Malia to wake in the pre-dawn light with adrenaline flooding her system.
Heart hammering, and her lips gasping for air as fear gripped her mind. The shadows of Murphy drifting through her sleeping mind and leaving her desperate to run.
When she awoke in her apartment, it was a simple matter of slipping on some clothes, a set of trainers she'd bought for this exact reason, and jog around the block a couple of times before heading home, and drowning the visions in her mind in the steam from a scalding shower.
When staying at the Warehouse, that solution wasn't available to her.
It wasn't that there wasn't enough room for her to go running, there was more than enough, but then Unit Bravo would know how it still haunted her. How she could still hear Murphy's voice whispering in her ear, his hands against her skin.
Instead, on those nights when sweat coated her body and adrenaline pumped through her veins, Malia went looking for Mason.
He never asked. Probably didn't need to, able to sense the thrumming of her panicked heart and taste her fear in the air, but together they would sit on the roof.
They rarely spoke, enjoying the peaceful air as the sun slowly crept over the horizon, and Malia's heartbeat slowed. They stayed out in the crisp early morning air until Malia's head dropped to his shoulder and then the vampire would gently urge her back to bed with an innocent kindness he would never display in front of the other vampires.
It was something just theirs, a gentle tenderness shared between them that was free of flirtation and innuendo. A closely guarded secret that Malia treasured.
"Sometimes I wish I could just forget," escaped her one morning, and she felt Mason stiffen next to her."Not... not everything. Not Unit Bravo, or vampires, or the agency," Malia added quickly, "just... just him."
She could feel Mason's gaze, hard and steady, but a moment later he leaned in and her heart stuttered in a much more pleasant way than the nightmare fuelled pounding she was scared she'd slowly grow used to.
Lips, soft and warm against her throat made her shiver, but it was pleasure and desire, not fear and terror filling her now as he kissed her skin and lapped his tongue roughly against her throat, before pulling back just enough to whisper in her ear.
"The scar on your neck was put there by him, are you thinking about him now?" Mason asked, and Malia's eyelids fluttered as she fought through her desire to focus on the vampires' words, shaking her head a moment later when she could finally make sense of the question.
"No," she breathed, watching Mason's lips twist into a smug smirk.
"Then you'll forget in time," he almost promised, leaning back again and leaving her to swallow hard as he turned his gaze back to the sun-warmed horizon of a new day.

So, I'm still nailing down her EXACT personality, but this is Malia Corvidae, my Mason Romancing Detective. Specialising in Science, and People, she's fairly easy going, and confident in herself (bold flirts), and while she's, ultimately, looking for something long term, she is not opposed to having some 'fun' along the way.
