Major spoilers for tgaac and plvsaa !
These are some headcanon ancestor/descendant relationships for the characters from plvsaa and tgaac because they are connected and it makes more sense for these people to be related considering both games take place in England.
I recommend playing/watching both games before looking at this cuz they're really good games :) but you don't have to if you don't want to :)
Anyone who says Iris is an Apollo/Trucy ancestor I get from where you're coming from but please reconsider :)
Whoo boy this is going to be a nightmare to tag :(

holiday gift season approaches.
do you know a FANTASY GAME ENJOYER? or someone with a YEARNING for d&d but no opportunity/ time to schedule it?
may i suggest.... my books
Where can I obtain these: Consider US & UK indie bookstores!! But, many places, like Forbidden planet online for less than a tenner. or Target.
Into the Dungeon: FUN. SILLY. Dungeon crawl! Get loot! Get eaten!
Into the Tower: Juicy fantasy novella vibe. Multiple unique endings. Wizard tower! Weird magic! Romance and horror options if you want!
BOTH: Standalone, quick reads, <1 hour to play once, no experience needed
Replayable. Achievements. Easy and hard modes
Meet creatures, kiss monsters
guest art I'm OBSESSED WITH. LOOK AT IT
Grainy VINTAGE (2018) photos of Felix Miall & Letty Wilson's inks
^ You might recognise these as the artists for many-award-winning ttrpgs including Heart: the city beneath and Wanderhome...
into the tower pics by Shazleen Khan, Faye Stacey & Sajan rai, THERE ARE LITERALLY SO MANY MORE BUT MOST ARE SPOILERS. CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT TO WORK WITH ALL THESE COOL ARTISTS TBH
Age rating FAQ: can I give Into the Dungeon to (or play with) nerdy children? yes. encouraged.
Number of players: solo, unless you read them aloud and get people to vote on their choices (I LOVE DOING THIS WITH CYOA BOOKS)
You can see more info, links to buy, character previews and a lil chart comparing the books here.
#reaching the end of the year like 'oh god forgot to remind people my books exist'#it's SO fun to hear from readers about these and i would LOVE to keep making them. and tragically that requires Promotion#ttrpg#solo rpg#gamebook#choose your own adventure#into the tower

When Gygax put together the Monster Manual, he unwittingly created a sort of “essential assortment” of RPG monsters derived from real world legend — they appear over and over again in other games as default opponents. Gygax selected those monsters from a wider pool derived from books of folklore and mythology that were available in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but I’ve read a lot of those (and their descendants) and, well, there are a lot of folkloric monsters from all over the world that are just, continually overlooked. This is something came into sharper focus for me regarding regions outside of Europe thanks to A Thousand Thousand Islands and Other Magic 2: Monsters of the Americas, but A Folklore Bestiary (2022), from The Merry Mushmen, proves there are still plenty of interesting creatures to mine even from Europe (and the rest of the world, too).
Letty Wilson did all the art. The writing and selection was by a variety of authors, from a variety of locations and this provides GMs with a nice diversity of options. Some are already passingly familiar (dybbuk, Black Shuck, Jack-in-Irons), some are really more like NPCs (the Queen of the Fallow Field, who is a bit like Lady Midday, and Bad Paxti, a nefarious blacksmith). Many function as variants of more generic monsters (Tartaro are basically classic cyclops, with some tweaks, like the fact that they are numbered instead of named or that their eye can emit a blinding beam of light — they’re probably my favorite beastie in the book). Like the previous two books this week, this serves to reimagine and recontextualize familiar monsters, though perhaps more subtly than the other. I’ll tell you, though, I will always take another strange folkloric goblin over some of the eyeroll-worthy monster variants that have cropped up in official D&D. Winged gnolls, for Pete’s sake?

Reviewing every rpg book on my shelf: 8, A Folklore Bestiary
From the same team that bring you KNOCK! magazine, which I have reviewed previously, This is an excellent collection of folkloric creatures. What this brings, in contrast to your usual monster manual, is creatures which are still deeply connected to their stories and also much more grounded in an environment and in connection to the people who live there. These are not monsters stat blocks to lift and populate any random dungeon with.
The stat blocks that there are, which tend to make up a relatively small part of each entry, are for old school essentials so will be suitable for and b/x derived game. But the real value here is in everything else there is for each creature, so the content can be useful for a pretty wide range of games (I have even used one for a blades in the dark one shot). There is also a 5e edition of the book, but I cannot in good conscience recommend 5e content on my blog.
Each entry begins with one or more narratives to introduce the creature, often relating to different people interacting with the creatures but sometimes a more straightforward backstory if the creature has a more singular origin and story. These are great for introducing the creature, but also for giving you inspiration for how to run them in ways other than 'you turn up in its lair and murder it')
The other two things each entry has is a beautiful illustration by Letty Wilson and a number of hooks for possible adventures relating to the creature. From there on the content diverges to an array of useful sidebars and additional content specific to each creature. There are tables for things like motivations, loot, other people who might be hunting the creature, reactions or specific examples of the creature you might meet . On the weightier end some creatures have dungeons, hex maps, or short adventures associated with them and a few have a new character class.
On top of the general value of the folkloric approach to monsters the book takes, there is a specific joy in finiding the creatures that are rooted in your own region. This is much more likely if you are from europe (and even more so if you are from france) as that is where the book primarily draws from. For me this joy came from the scucca, which draws from the east anglian legend of black shuck, as I have even seen the supposed burnt paw print on a church door that is referenced in the text (It doesn't look much like a paw print).
All in all a great little book and an excellent source if you wanted to run a 'monster of the week' campaign travelling between locations and dealing with specific issues with monsters that are deeply tied to those locations.
#ttrpg#my stuff#Reviewing every rpg book on my shelf#osr#Finally returning to this project. Unfortunately my shelf is now overwhelmed and the title would be more accurate as#'Reviewing every ttrpg book on my shelf or in a pile next to it'

She is the biological daughter of Leticia "Letty" Ortiz and Dominic Toretto
Andy was born 8 months after Dom left Letty and was left outside of an orphanage
Andy bounced from foster home to foster home growing up
Her one foster parent taught her about cars. How they worked, the feel of the car, how to drive, drift, etc. It was the one home she spent with a long period of time.
Started street racing when she was 14 in secret
She inherited a love for a 1970 dodge charger (she gets it from her dad, and it was her second car)
She had a little business of her own where she steals cars and car parts and sells them to her clients, but now they expanded to getting objects for people who pay big money

He's not bad behind the wheel but nowhere near Andy's level
Has a major crush on Andy and constantly tries to impress her and get her attention

The subhead's going to be reworded, but whatever. The point is that The Guide to Grunts, my follow-up to The Pamphlet of Pantheons, is now funding on crowdfundr. It's a 24-page TTRPG worldbuilding zine with words by me and some great illustrations by Letty Wilson. If you like The Pamphlet of Pantheons, or if you've got three quid burning a hole in your pocket and you like making up cool stuff for fantasy settings, I think you'll enjoy it. https://fnd.us/628epe?ref=sh_eC7Pkb
