114 AC Sunspear, Dorne
The breeze caressed your features, your silver hair swayed gently. You flipped the page of the heavy book that rested atop your lap. Your moment of peace was interrupted by the doors swinging open. Your son and Aegon ran laughing and shouting words you could not understand.
"Mother!" Your firstborn Derran shouted and ran into your embrace.
"What is it my sweet?" You ask caressing his curly brown hair that possessed silver streaks.
"Is it true that cousin 'Nyra will be visiting?" He asked climbing into your lap.
"Where did you hear this?" You asked placing the book on the ground curiously
"Aegon told me!" He said happily, you raised an eyebrow curiously at your nephew. The boy just smiled and shrugged.
"It is true sweetling, we will host Princess Rhaenyra and Lord Laenor in Sunspear. A royal procession, the first one to ever happen in Dorne."
"Will my brother and sister come too?" Aegon asked sitting on the sofa.
"Im afraid they are too young for such a journey." You answered taking a brush in your hand and approached Aegon.
"I always like when you do my hair." Aegon mumbled as you begun to detangle the wild array of silver hair.
"Then you are no different than your sister." You mused braiding his locks.
"Helaena?"
"Rhaenyra, I always did her hair, no maid was allowed to do it when I was present." Aegon chuckled as did your son.
"Can you do my hair mother?" He asked climbing next to Aegon.
"Your hair is too short sweetling but one day if you wish." Derran pouted and leaned against the back of the couch sulking, his violet eyes welling with tears.
"Don't cry." Aegon muttered patting Derran's shoulder. You smiled at their brotherly bond as you finished Aegon's braids.
"y/n?" The doors to your chambers have been opened by your husband. He walked in frantically searching for you.
"Husband." You answered, he sighed in relief and approached you.
"Father!" Derran screamed with happened and threw himself in Qoren's arms. The prince smiled and picked up his son, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
"What bothers you?" You ask pressing a kiss to Aegon's hair and letting him and your son scurry off to their nursery.
"Dragons have been spotted over Godsgrace." He muttered placing his large warm hand on your growing belly.
"Good, I'll send word to prepare their chambers." You mumbled placing your palm on his.
"Where is Nymor?" He asked
"in his nursery with Oberyn." You answered pressing your lips against Qoren.
Many things changed since Rhaenyra's wedding, Daemon married Laena and left with her for the free cities. You knew that Corlys and Rhaenys were displeased with this union but Laena was unwavering and they relented.
You have not seen Rhaenyra since her wedding, countless letters were exchanged but it wasn't the same. But now she was visiting and could stay as long as she wanted.
Your maids helped you dress in a loose fitting satin dress. The hot climate of Dorne allowed you to wear thin silks and linens as well as open shoes.
"Mother, ready!" Derran burst in to your chambers dressed in a orange tunic with black threads depicting scorpions. You smiled seeing your son and ushered him inside.
"You're excited." You said placing the prince in your lap. He bounced happily, the feelings too much for his little body.
The maids braided your hair quickly and hand in hand with your son you walked through the castle heading for the courtyard. Vassals of the banner men bowed their head at you and their future prince.
The Martells awaited your presence in the courtyard Aegon was already there talking with Darren's cousin Ivor. You smiled at your brother in law, Maron and his wife Qyria.
"y/n" Qoren whispered and pressed a kiss on your temple. He smiled as his son made grabby hands to be picked up.
"You look very well, Lady Qyria." You said clasping your hands atop your stomach.
"Thank you, this pregnancy is far easier than the first one." The Essosi woman answered caressing her swollen belly.
"Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her royal consort Lord Laenor Velaryon!" One of the guards announced as a carriage rolled onto the courtyard.
Soon you saw the familiar silver hair and violet eyes you missed so dearly. The two Valyrians stepped out of the carriage a flock of ladies left after Rhaenyra staring in amazement at the Old Palace.
"Princess Rhaenyra, Lord Laenor." Your husband said his greeting. "Welcome to Sunspear."
"Thank you, Prince Qoren." Rhaenyra answered. You walked down the steps Aegon following two steps behind.
"Rhaenyra" You said and engulfed the princess in a bone crushing hug.
"How I've missed you." She whispered in your hair, tears welled in your eyes.
"We have so much to talk about." You answered letting go of Rhaenyra, Aegon happy to see his family hugged his half-sister.
"Hello Aegon." She said a bit stiffly.
"Laenor." You smiled at the Velaryon "How was the travel?"
"Berable, but I'm afraid Seasmoke is not a big fan of the climate here."
You chuckled and the conversation continued as you guided them to their chambers. Finally alone you sat on the bed in Rhaenyra's chambers.
"How is married life treating you?" You asked once you were alone.
"My father has been mentioning grandchildren." Rhaenyra mused taking a fruit from the plate.
"And how is Laenor in that department?" You asked
"His tastes are different but he is kind, but we laid together twice."
"Not a great chance of conceiving a child then." You mused caressing her hair. "Does he only like men?"
"I think so... we agreed to take lovers if needed but he has taken only men."
"A shame... But if it a child you want I can help." You said standing up.
"In what can you help? You are not a man." Rhaenyra stated a bit confused.
"No, but there is a practise I have read of." You begun and Rhaenyra nodded for you to continue. "The next time Laenor lays with someone instruct him to pour his seed in a dish, take a goose quill and fill it with his... seed." Rhaenyra listened intently "Put the quill inside you and let the it take root."
"...Will it work?" She asked unsure
"In the books I have read the success rate is rather large, the important part is to do it quickly as the seed is hot."
"I will do so then, but if it doesn't work what then?"
"Then you choose a man that looks similar to Laenor and lay with him. The realm excepts an heir it doesn't matter from whom. Just make sure Laenor will father them."
...
Unfortunately after three moons Rhaenyra, Laenor and her court had to depart for the rest of the tour. Derran and Aegon cried as they saw Rhaenyra leave.
Moons passed and news of the birth of Princess Rhaenyra's first child, a son Jacaerys reached your ears. Half the realm was invited to celebrate for two weeks of jousts and feasts.
Your whole household has been invited north to King's Landing, your husband has decided to stay behind.
You put on your black riding leather, braiding your long locks in three braids. Your youngest Nymor sat in Aegon's lap making grabby hands at you.
"Soon, little scorpion." You mumbled, and stood behind Aegon braiding his hair in a style similar to yours. He was already dressed in yellow riding leather with pink seams. An homage to his dragon.
"Thank you y/n." The boy mumbled and handed you Nymor. Taking a large cotton cloth you swaddled Nymor to your chest making sure he doesn't fall off while on dragon back. Derran was strong enough to hold on to the reigns himself.
Sunfyre was large enough to saddle and Aegon flew on his own next to your dragon.
"Let's go." You smiled as you saw Aegon taking your eldest by his hand.
Vermithor bellowed with happiness as he saw you and your children, he stretched his wings preparing for flight. You help Derran to the saddle and then climbed yourself. Aegon smiled at his steed as he roared with happiness. Easily climbing onto Sunfyre the golden.
"Soves!" Your voice bubbled with happiness as you felt the anticipation of flying once again. Vermithor roared and flapped his bronze wings leaping into the air.
...
King's Landing
The flight was a little longer than Derran and Nymor would like but they didn't fuss much. Aegon's dragon was faster than the old Bronze Fury, he flew circles around him occasionally screeching happily. You noticed the similarities between Sunfyre and Syrax, both golden and spoiled. Their heads were of similar shape, different than your dragon's bull like skull.
Seeing the familiar towers of the red keep you lowered the reigns making your dragon leap down throwing a shadow over the town below with his huge scaly body. Vermithor landed on the courtyard of the dragon pit.
The dragon keepers glanced at you and your children atop the bronze fury. Your steed straightened his large wing so that Darion could slide down easily. You smiled at the gleeful giggle of your firstborn.
"Princess y/n, Prince Aegon!" Joqar the dragon elder exclaimed happily. You smiled at the dark skinned man.
"Joqar it is great to see you. These are my sons Darren and Nymor." You answered introducing your children, he smiled and ruffled their hair.
"They look like true dragons." He smiled at the silver hair of your youngest and the violet eyes of your eldest. You smiled and thanked the elder man.
"There is a carriage waiting for you, your highness." He announced.
"Thank you Joqar, I hope you take great take of Vermithor. Do not chain him, he has grown used to flying free in Dorne." You smiled and helped your eldest climb into the carriage.
...
"Sister!" Rhaenyra exclaimed happily as she engulfed you in a hug. "Such handsome boys they are." She smiled at your two children.
"Thank you, they are quite tired from their journey." You mused caressing the silver locks of Nymor. Rhaenyra eyes her younger brother as he nodded his head at her.
"Come we shall put them in the nursery and you shall meet my son Jacaerys." She smiled picking Darren up into her arms.
"I cannot wait, then. Come Aegon, meet your nephew."" You smiled walking down the halls of your home, the tapestries and statues depicting Valyria stood proudly in the corridors.
You smiled as you saw Laenor carrying his newborn son.
"Laenor." You approached and pulled Nymor out of the confines on your chest and letting him crawl. A small bundle of blankets laid in the Velaryons arms. "May I?"
"Laenor, y/n wishes to be introduced to Jacaerys." Rhaenyra smiled sitting in a chair.
The prince consort nodded and passed the babe into your arms. He was quite heavy, bigger than your sons when they were born. Jace cooed happily, his eyes a deep Valyrian purple almost indigo. His hair however was almost black and curly, simmilair to those of his grandmother Rhaenys.
"He's beautiful." You mused, caressing the wisps of hair. "Is he yours?" You asked Laenor and the man nearly choked, Aegon glanced curiously at the Velaryon not understanding your words.
"y/n knows everything, husband. She is the one to tell of the practise." Rhaenyra mused "And yes y/n Jace is Laenor's."
"I think Rhaenys will be happy to have a grandson with her hair." You jested. "Will you have more children?"
"If Rhaenyra wishes." Laenor answered, mindful of his wife's feelings.
"And you y/n? Will Nymor be your last." You tensed a bit at your friends question.
"My husband and I wish for more but lately he's been growing ill. The healers advise against strenous activities."
"That's terrible, what seems to bother him?" Laenor asked as you handed him his son.
"Uncle Qoren faints often." Aegon mumbled holding Darren's hand.
"Yes... he's constantly tired and barely eats anything. His body aches whenever he moves." You answered picking up Nymor as he tugged on your trousers. "I shall pay a visit to the rest of the family. Aegon would you like to stay or go with me?"
"With you." The boy answered.
...
"y/n!" Helaena and Aemond shouted as you entered their shared chambers. You kneeled and let them run into your arms.
"Good morrow, my sweets." You answered kissing the tops of their heads, your sons stayed behind you eyeing their cousins curiously. "Haelaena, Aemond meet your cousins Derran and Nymor." You slightly pushed them forward.
"Hello!" Derran said and approached Haelaena who was a year older than him, and Aemond who was a year younger. "I'm Derran."
Aegon hid behind his younger cousin as he wearily looked at his siblings.
"Hi." He shyly said to Helaena, she smiled up at her brother.
"Hello."
You smiled as they talked with their limited vocabulary, and soon abandoned words and begun playing with wooden horses, dragons and soldiers. Aemond and Nymor seemed to get along best as they were closest in age.
...
Viserys threw a feast at the news of your and your family's arrival, Nymor sat in your lap as Darren sat next to his cousins. You smiled seeing your family, despite the tension between the Queen and Rhaenyra. Your nephews and niece grew beautifully, Viserys on the other hand grew sicker, a different type of illness than your husband. His once thick golden hair thinning, changes on his skin appeared. Truly a horrid sight.
"Let ur raise our cups to my beloved sister and her children!" Viserys toasted raising his goblet full of Arbor wine.
"Hear hear." Laenor smiled sipping the alcohol.
"Princess, we are very glad you could make such a tedious journey." Alicent said in your direction. "Especially so soon after giving birth."
"I simply couldn't wait to meet my nephew." You answered feeding Nymor some potato puree.
"If you wish there are maids, your highness." The Queen proposed noticing as you took care of your son.
"I prefer to tend to my children on my own, rather than leaving them with wet-nurses and maids."
"An embodiment of the mother is she not, my love?" Viserys asked his wife as he eyed your youngest.
"It seems that our house grows, brother." You answered "You should be very proud of Aegon, his teachers say he is very quick to learn. And his bond with Sunfyre is growing strong, they made it to King's Landing without problem"
"Really Aegon? I didn't knew you flied that th- your dragon." Alicent said a bit appalled.
"I have mother." Aegon replied a bit gloomy. "Aunt y/n helped me bond with Sunfyre and helped me learn to fly."
"It seems that Silverwing has taken to Dorne as well." You announced.
"Silverwing, really?" Rhaenyra asked curiously.
"She has flown with us to Sunspear when we were returning from the wedding. It seems she prefers to be with Vermithor, they coil together quite often."
"Perhaps Silverwing will lay a clutch of eggs then." Your brother smiled, meat on his fork.
Viserys smiled at the picturesque moment that his family shared. His sisters presence made everything better, his conflicted nephews wife and daughter watched with happiness Nymor and Darren. The only thing missing was Daemon. Laena was with child and soon new Targaryen princelings would be welcome into this world. But they would be brought up in an unfamiliar land away from their home.
...
Sunspear
You smiled as you saw your husband standing at the feet of the makeshift Dragon pit, a cane in his hand. Servants and knights standing behind him.
"Father!" Darren screamed as he jumped from Vermithor's wing. "Father!"
"My boy!" Qoren laughed, Darren ran towards him and crashed into his legs. You slid off Vermithor with Nymor wrapped to your chest. Aegon jumped off Sunfyre and ran after Darren. You slowly walked towards your husband, he smiled as he saw you and your youngest.
"Husband." You whispered embracing him.
"Wife." He answered "My little boy." He kissed the forehead of your son. "I hope the flight was well"
"It was." You answered as you walked next to your husband and son, the guards following behind.
"Aegon how was your flight?" Qoren conversed with Aegon.
"Sunfyre is very fast! He likes to fly high in the clouds." He answered excited to talk about his steed.
"Princess." Your guard Trystane Dayne bowed his head and smiled as your son ran towards the tall man.
Your husbands condition seemed to get better, before he couldn't walk on his own on the count of his weak body.
"How are you feeling?" You asked caressing Qoren's arm.
"In pain... My brother has called for a healer from Qohor. It is said that the man cured death, but I'm not as hopeful." Qoren laughed sadly. "Some day soon our son will inherit my seat and he will become the greatest prince Dorne has ever seen."
"Someday but not anytime soon, my love. Our son is too young to become the prince."
"That is why you will become his regent." He explained looking at your son assaulting ser Trystane with questions. "I know you are much more than capable, and don't try to fight me on this. Maester Yenner has already wrote down my will."
"Qoren..." You whispered.
"You're beautiful." He whispered caressing your cheek with his bony hand. You leaned into his touch, your eyes glossing.
...
The light fell onto your eyes awaking you from slumber, you smiled at the warm weather that was typical here. You pressed your head onto your husbands chest, he was...cold.
"Qoren?" You asked terrified, he wheezed in response misty eyes staring into your red ones.
"I love you." He whispered heavily breathing.
"No! No!" You cried "Don't leave me alone in this world." You clutched the linen shirt he wore. "I can't- our children Qoren, please."
"You're as beautiful as the day I met you." His bony palm placed a stray strand of silver hair behind your ear, and caressed your tear soaked cheeks.
"No... please." You wailed into his chest.
"Since I laid my eyes upon you, I have loved you. I will do so even after my death."
"I love you too..." Your lips pressed against his in a final act of desperation. But love stories weren't real, a kiss couldn't save anyone.
Your husband is dead
His golden brown eyes lifelessly started at the ceiling, the body you once hugged every night was now cold and unfamiliar.
"I will take care of our children, my love." You whispered and pressed a kiss against his forehead. In a haze you left your shared chambers and went to your sons nursery, waking them up much earlier than usual.
"Mum?" Darren asked absentmindedly rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. You clutched onto him like a lifeline, caressing his face and dark hair he inherited from his father.
Nymor isn't old enough to even remember his father, in that way he was the same as you. Except for the fact that you were here, his mother, and you will continue to live for them.
"I love you, know that there won't be a day when I won't worry for you. You are my son, my first son."
...
All of the houses sworn to house Martell came to Sunspear to attend Prince Qoren's funeral. A white veil covered your face as you held your youngest child in your arms, Darren's clutched your skirts tears staining his chubby cheeks. Aegon held Darren's hand as a few stray tears left his violet orbs. All of you dressed in white silks, your husbands body has been wrapped in the same white cloth. Salty tears rolled down your cheeks as you watched your husbands corpse be covered in sand.
The death of her first husband changed Princess y/n, she became more protective of her children and nephew. Vermithor and Sunfyre were often spotted above the deserts. It seems that spending time with her mount alleviated her pain, many believe that the bond between dragon and rider was the reason Targaryen's blood was magic. Some texts say that, the magic in their veins keeps them immune to sickness Andals and the First Men die from. - From the dragon bringer by the feather and quill of Grand Maester Roland.

Review: The dreamy singer-songwriter Elina bears her new bittersweet single ‘Sweet Night’, embracing escapism in an ever-evolving sound
Tumblr media
The Swedish singer-songwriter and Ivor Novello nominee Elina has found herself connecting with audiences spanning the entire world since her 2018 debut, creating lulling works that you’ll carry with you forever. With her upcoming debut album ‘Whatever Happens Now’ due for release next month, along with the third single from its repertoire ‘Sweet Night’ now releasing, it’s never been a more exciting time to start listening to an artist that’ll only continue to rise.
Right from pressing play, ‘Sweet Night’ breathes a fresh air into your lungs, a painted sky into your heart and an infinite amount of wisdom to behold, the most breathtaking indicator of true artistry that seeps far beyond just being a song but an experience to be felt in itself. From the opening acoustic guitar strums that reverberate out into the openness of the song’s initial paired-back intimacy, Elina sets up an absolutely haunting moment you can’t help but listen along to with your undivided attention. Gracing these bright strums with her floating, soft vocals, Elina rises atop the delicate bedding of guitar with her own resonance that carries along with it a story worth taking in every word of. Picking up in the chorus with the addition of drawn-out piano keys and thudding but subdued beats, ‘Sweet Night’ truly begins to evolve into a textural mesh of layered sounds from this point forward, mimicking the warm embrace of those moments that make you feel truly alive. The second verse continues this progression even fuller, incorporating soothing backing vocal moments before collapsing into a chorus with even more impact and instruments than ever before. It’s impossible to not be swept up along in this journey of sound, finding a home within Elina’s intricately created instruments that bear her entire heart and soul. An emphatic electric guitar closes out the track with a flourishing edge, a poignant looping reminder of finding beauty in the smallest things.
Just like its title ‘Sweet Night’ evokes a sense of bliss, Elina of course writes a narrative within it that’s divinely heavenly to match, appreciating the world for everything it has to offer. As Elina finds herself pining for something more than a cyclical life of work and the same streets, ‘Sweet Night’ finds itself spilling out with every single one of her dreams to let go and live life to the fullest, taking in the smaller details often left unnoticed with a youthful mindset: ‘I feel like a child, eyes wide open.’ Picturing the freedom and rejuvenating senses of escaping, Elina sings ‘I wanna feel what it’s like to breathe, wanna touch what it’s like to be’ , a plead to be embraced by life’s loving arms and brought back down to the earth’s roots. The chorus hook soars out with the declaration ‘I’m free, it’s such a sweet night to chase the sweet life’ , bearing a completely empowering sense of letting go of expectations and simply chasing the horizon as far as your eyes can see. Without a plan or a care in the world, Elina continues ‘I’ll be alright behind my headlights’ , knowing that regardless of how this journey goes she’ll continue to find gratitude in specks of everything, whether it be the stars in the sky or a bonfire. Though it’s dreamy and sets up a multitude picturesque scenes, there’s an almost hidden sense of melancholia within the tenderness of ‘Sweet Night’ too, like a reminder that we all yearn to feel this alive and yet are also often held down by the mundanities of routine in life: ‘the world is beautiful, I forgot somehow.’ It doesn’t stop Elina from sharing this liberating anthem though, even if she’s yet to make it a reality herself she’s here to remind you not to let time pass you by before it’s too late to make those memories and experiences a reality.
Going on to talk about her forthcoming album, Elina shares that it “… is about closing a chapter. Over the past several years, I’ve learned a lot about acceptance and letting go of resistance. There’s this glimpse of hope and peace to these new songs, which I think comes from a lot of positive change within.”
Check out ‘Sweet Night’ here to remind yourself of that freeing sense of being alive, along with a soaring instrumental journey to match.

OH SHIT I FORGOT I FORGOT TO DUMP ABT MY S3 SOREN WHOOPS
OKAY SO first of all I want to say that the biggest reason I think he'd be the final boss is because of the fact that he's literally called the Builder of Worlds in the intro of "The Order of the Stone" like. hello? sounds a little more impressive than "The Redstone Engineer," "The Rougue," and "The Warrior" imo. also, he has a book in every world in the Portal Hall + Fred's Keep, meaning that he's been to all of these seemingly impossible places only available to powerrful people (the Old Builders and the Admins). how else in the world would he be able to get to these places without being powerful himself?
also, the command block. holy shit where did it come from? you can't craft one (there's no proof Ellegaard's would've actually been crafted), so where did it come from? my answer: Soren spawned it in as a way to show off his powers without seeming like he did it on purpose. he tells Jesse that initially, the Order did actually rough it out on adventures, but once they found the command block, they began to use it and rely on it more and more. this begs the question: if Soren's so powerful, why would he go through the trouble of using it? for that, let's look at his past
in my s3, it's explained that Soren created every world, and had 3 children who created the dimensions. "The Sun" created the overworld so that the inhabitants of the worlds could live happily in the day, "The Moon" created the Nether for the adventurers of the worlds, and "The Star" who created the End for ████████████████. these three were dubbed as "The Creators," and they worked together when creating the dimensions, and sprinkled in a litte bit of each other's dimensions in each other ("The Moon" made the nights filled with monsters and filled the End with loot to entice people to journey through the dimensions, "The Sun" made glowstone/shroom lights in the Nether and made end rods in the End to show that no matter the outlook, there's always light (they also made chorus fruit in the End so that people would have something to eat), and "The Star" made the Endermen available to every dimension so that way they'd ████████)
after that, he dedicated admins for every world who would use the dimensions to sculpt the worlds how they saw fit, make/remix mobs, and add their own blocks/mechanics/etc, but most of them became corrupted, ran away, or killed. because of this, he wanted to wipe everything and start again, but he wanted to give his worlds the benefit of the doubt and so, he decided to explore them, hidden amongst the common folk
in every world he traveled to, he was alone, scrounging for resources, not able to use his powers so that he could experience life the way the people who lived on the worlds did. it was... humbling, really. not using your powers is a nice way to really feel alive after getting what you wanted with the clap of your hands for thousands of years. he ended up running into the Old Builders soon after they had formed and joined them (hence the book A Man Voyaging Forever from his time alone). it was with them that he researched and created the redstone heart (hence The Redstone Heart in Harper's lab).
he actually watched The Games (and occssionally participated in them), but once Hadrian and Mevia began to become corrupted, he and Harper dipped to Crown Mesa, where after some time, PAMA happened, and he dipped because PAMA chipping him would be catastrophic. once reaching the world where "A Portal to Mystery" takes place, he began to occasionally study enderman and followed them around, observing them in their hauntings (hence Walking Among the Enderman). unfortunately that world was difficult to really observe them because the world prefered to spawn zombies at any given chance, so he dipped again.
when he made it to Sky City, Benedict was incredibly useful to his research. he befriended Isa and asked her only for the endermen spawn eggs, and in return, he would give her information about mobs that he had acquired over the years so she could know how to get/use the best drops mobs had to offer (hence Habits of the Endermen, whixh he gifted it to her once completed) the only issue was that he couldn't fully observe them in the overworld and thus, he dipped.
that brings us to the world of Fred, Xara, and Romeo. he had joined The Oasis and befriended the admins (although they didn't know who he actually was) and was actually very close friends with Fred. Fred inspired Soren to break the cycle and start a permanent life here (hence A Brave New Enderman), but after Fred died and the world was bedrocked over, he tried to dip again, but was horrified to find that the portal he used to get there was gone. turns out when the Old Builders got to that world to kidnap competitors, they broke and replaced the portal so that it would be on the surface. with this, Soren began a quest to find the portal.
however, once he got to the surface, he had nowhere to start, so he went adventuring again to search for clues. turns out that when you don't adventure for a while, you get rusty, and he almost got seriously injured during a fight with a hoard of spider jockeys. but just when he thought he was going to get seriously hurt, someone (or rather, some people) jumped in to help. these some people where Gabriel and Ivor. the two had become adventuring buddies because Gabriel was the perfect fighter and Ivor was the perfect brewer and enchanter, and they worked really well together. Soren was invited to join the two due to his extensive knowledge of the world, and because he had the ability to be a great member physically once he got back into the swing of things. soon, Ellegaard and Magnus joined the team, and they became the "Stone Age" (this name was changed after the Ender Dragon encounter because they needed something that sounded cooler). at this point, he was quite truthfully happy
but then came the command block. Soren had always carried it as a fail-safe, but when the group began to take on more dangerous challenges and almost fatally wound themselves, he began to use the command block. he had planted it so that it had seemed like it was discovered, but he knew the truth. and with that, he began to use it. not because he wanted the easy way out like Ivor believed, but because he didn't want lose any more of his friends.
that brings us to s1. with Soren losing Magnus/Ellegaard and seeing the destruction and pain he himself had caused because of his command block, he did what he knew best and ran away, leaving his only friends to fend for themselves.
now let's talk about season 2. Ivor doesn't know where he is, but my s3 explains that Soren's lack of an appearance in s2 is because of the fact he was once again trying to run away from his problems, but he still doesn't know where the portal to the portal hall is, and was just roughing it out once again by himself. that is, until he encountered a very particular enderman that doesn't seem to be under the control of the Ender Dragon. despite this new companion, once he's heard about what happened to jesse and the admins, he realizes just how badly he set up the worlds and is back to thinking about wiping the universes clean and starting over, and now, his plan is already underway (hence why the au Jesse shows up in the first place)
now, you may be wondering "how does that make him the final boss?" well, it's simple. before he becomes the last boss of the series, there's another adventure right before it that involves "The Sun," "The Moon," and "The Star" that takes place as the first arc of the game. by the time that arc is finished with, the universes that are being wiped are getting closer and closer to the world he inhabits, making Jesse the only one able to stop him and save the day

A Person Who Has Never Played MCSM Writes A Story About MCSM Chp. 15
CHP 15!!!!! Some good times and bad times lie ahead......
Enjoy!
“Everything okay?” Jess asked. Aiden was about to leave the house but had stopped halfway out the door, turned back around, and scanned the first floor while Jess and Olivia waited for him.
“Yeah.” Aiden said slowly as he began to close the door, twisting the knob to make sure he wouldn’t accidentally lock the three of them out, “Just thought I heard something.” He walked away from the house and patted his hair down. “You two ready to go?”
“Mhm!” Olivia finished zipping up the olive green jacket Stella had lent her. She was hiding her face with the hood of the gray sweatshirt Cassie gave her the day before as well. She knew there weren’t too many people out at this hour, but better safe than sorry.
Jess was wearing the leather jacket and beanie again, but he wasn’t too concerned about hiding his face this time. Earlier, he made a minor complaint that his clothes felt rather stiff after wearing them for a few days straight, to which Aiden promised that once they got back home he would throw their clothes in the washer.
“Let’s get going!” Jess said, adjusting the beanie on his head. Originally, Jess wasn’t too thrilled at the idea of going out at this hour. Knowing there might be Awakening members roaming around, or his alternate self--who had no problem beating Radar in broad daylight--made Jess uncertain over the safety of Obsidian Town’s streets. Aiden assured him that they’d be alright, it’d be three against one, and--in his words--he ‘Wants to do somethin’ nice for Olivia after last night’.
Jess appreciated the thoughtfulness, and in the end, visiting Olivia’s grave was up to… Well, Olivia, but he’d still be ready in case a creep tried to pull something.
Jess couldn’t really blame Olivia for wanting to check out her grave. It’s her place of death. When would you ever get an opportunity to visit a place like that again? Not to mention, Jess had been wanting to get a better look at Obsidian Town rather than getting glimpses or constantly staring at the ground.
The three walked to the left and started their journey to the cemetery. Aiden and Olivia were making small talk, so Jess took this time to absorb his surroundings.
Up ahead, he could spot a tall, crooked, ivory colored tower in the distance. That must’ve been the library Olivia mentioned before. Even from all the way over here Jess could see how ruined the place was. Cracks stretched across it, it was riddled with holes, and it looked moments away from collapsing.
Jess scanned the streets. The long, thin black lamp posts on each side had thin string-lights tied to their tops that stretched across the streets in a zig-zag like manner. It’s a shame they weren’t on at the moment, they must’ve been wonderful when lit.
There were empty stalls they’d pass by occasionally. Colorful, patterned tents protected the bare tables, empty boxes, and scraps sitting underneath. Jess noticed each stall had string lights, small lanterns, or candles for light. He’d catch quick glimpses at folded signs tucked away and papers taped onto poles advertising items and prices. Seeing all of this reminded him of the farmer markets Beacon Town. Jess would always act so crabby when he woke up early for them, but it wouldn’t take long for him to get hyped up and dashing around the place until closing time.
The stalls and all were nice, but Jess couldn’t help but find Obsidian Town’s buildings to be… Underwhelming.
Many of the buildings, from what he could see, were constructed with the same materials: stone, wood, bricks, concrete, the occasional polished granite and diorite, and the rare terracotta. There were variations with the colors, but seeing the same materials got real tiring real fast.
And most structures here were just shapes. That’s all that could really be said. Squared, rectangled, plain shapes to fit the equally-plain materials. Even the sizes of the buildings felt plain. Many were one to two stories, a large handful reached three, and hardly any were four.
Jess was so used to Beacon Town’s monstrous structures, giant jungle trees sprouting from windows, walls of colored glass creating magnificent designs, and bridges stretching from roof to roof that connected the town together. The fun types of builds! It might sound chaotic but that’s what made Beacon Town feel like home. Obsidian Town was just that. A town.
‘Don’t think the people here can risk being experimental, to be fair.’ Jess told himself as he remembered how often quakes struck. He thought back to his town again. He thought about how so many homes would quickly collapse the moment a strong-enough quake would hit. Beacon Town was fun, but it wasn’t built with ‘sturdiness’ in mind, unlike Obsidian Town.
While the construction and sizes of these buildings were on the more ‘basic’ side, the way the citizens decorated the exteriors of their homes and stores was magnificent. Oh, how he loved their decorations. From markets using barrels, wagons, and carefully stacked crates to advertise their fresh fruit and flowers, to cafes that’d have their furniture with their own color schemes and accessories to make them stand out from one another. Some places had porches decorated with flowers and swinging benches, while others had balconies with tiny lights.
Jess would get a second to peer into windows they’d pass by, catching glimpses of interiors that’d tempt him to come closer and press his face against the glass to get a better look. Actually, he hadn’t noticed it right away, but so many windows in Obsidian Town were colored. They didn’t have any intricate designs--a majority of them were one solid color--unlike the stained glass back at the Order Hall, but they were still charming. He pictured in his head how vibrant the streets must be when night comes… The lights from the inside mixing with the colors of the glass must be magnificent.
One place that REALLY caught Jess’ attention was a stone gray building tucked between two larger ones. It had a simple square base, but had a noticeable tilt to it. It had a staircase that wrapped around it’s walls and led to the roof, where a smaller room sat atop, equally slanted. A wooden sign hung from above the door and had the words “Glass Art” on it. Purple, pink, and blue glass shards and chimes were held by opaque strings from the overhang; there was a large, round, beautiful stained glass window with the same colors beside the door.
The glass art reminded Jess of Ivor and his potions. Man… How is Ivor? Is he doing alright? Is he worried? Hopefully he’s not working himself to the bone trying to find a way to save him and Olivia. Jess couldn’t wait to get back home and give that old man a big ol’ hug.
Come to think of it, has anyone mentioned anything about potions while they’ve been here? He doesn’t remember Olivia’s book talking about them, nor any of Aiden’s friends bringing them up… Are there no potions here? Or maybe there’s a lack of materials? They couldn’t go to the Nether or mine without a license--which STILL boggles Jess’ mind--so that probably made gathering resources hard. How would Ivor react to this? He’d probably say: ‘Pah! A universe without potions is a miserable one. Back in my day, we’d travel hundreds of miles to find the finest ingredients for our--’
“Jess!” He heard Olivia call his name. He spun around and saw her and Aiden standing under a stone arch. Olivia had her hands on her hips.
“You done dreamin’?” Aiden asked.
Jess didn’t realize how far he had strayed from the two. He hurried over and joined them at the arch.
“Sorry, sorry, I was busy thinking.” He skidded to a halt and fixed his beanie.
“Just glad nobody saw you.” Aiden said, “I almost stopped her from calling you cause I wanted to see how far you’d walk off.”
“Could you imagine if he got caught like that?” Olivia asked, “One moment he’s strolling through the streets, and the next he’s being pounced on by guards all because he was too busy sightseeing.” Her and Aiden chuckled at the thought.
“Oh, so it’s a crime to appreciate a town now?” Jess dramatically placed his hands on his hips, mimicking Olivia’s posture.
“It's illegal for you.” Aiden said, “Now come on, there’s a shortcut through the park.”
Aiden walked through the moss-covered stone arch. On each side of the arch were thick, green hedges that boxed in the park. Olivia noticed that, unlike the buildings in this town, the hedges didn’t form an actual shape; it would jut in and out at random, creating odd angles and corners. It was strange but charming.
A path that started under the arch and looped around the area, creating a horseshoe-like shape. Aiden ignored the path and continued walking straight through the grass. Olivia saw the usual things most parks had: Benches, lampposts, a sign telling people not to litter. She also noticed leftover chalk on the sidewalk, laying right beside children’s drawings of stick figures and hopscotch.
Obsidian Town’s park was small, nice, simple, and… Honestly a little dark. The thick clouds were already blocking most of the sun’s light, but the few, tall, thick trees had branches that hid nearly every inch of the sky. Despite how dim it was, Olivia could still spot wild flowers sprinkled around the grass, along with the bugs buzzing around them.
Honestly--and Olivia felt bad thinking this--she preferred this sort of park over whatever the heck Beacon Town had going on. Yes, Beacon Town was great in it’s own way. People could build whatever they wanted, and that’s wonderful, but sometimes she’d just like to take a walk without a constant ruckus surrounding her. Sometimes she just wanted peace and quiet--
“That guy’s missing his entire head!” Jess suddenly whisper-shouted as he lightly shook Olivia. Her heart started beating frantically as she hurriedly spun her head around. Her mind was going all over the place. Was it a decapitated corpse? A strange, alternate-universe monster? Or--or--
It was a statue.
“Jess, you nearly gave me a heart attack.” She sighed with relief.
“Sorry,” He took his hands off of her and pointed, “check it out though!”
Both Olivia and Aiden were looking at the statue now. It was a man frozen midrun, an axe held back--stuck in a swinging motion--while the other hand held up his battered shield, which covered his face. If he had a face, that is. It had to be The Impossible Man. Olivia wasn’t sure who else it could’ve been.
“He’s definitely seen better days.” She said under her breath. Besides his entire head missing, a majority of his body was covered in dirt, children’s chalk, and other strange stains. Cracks started from his broken neck and traveled to his chest, his armor was chipped and scratched, and a good portion of his axe had broken off as well.
“Yeah, I think there’s a couple more statues around here?” Aiden mentioned as they continued walking, “They’re all in pretty bad shape. The kids like to mess with them.”
Aiden scanned the park. “There’s one,” He pointed to the upper corner on the left side of the park. A statue was placed on a podium right in front of a tree. Despite the fact one of his legs was missing, he appeared to be sitting comfortably, gazing at the tree tops peacefully.
“Annnndddd…” Aiden kept turning his head in different directions, “I’m pretty sure there was a head somewhere… Oh!” He spun around, walking backwards now as he pointed to the direction of the entrance. Jess and Olivia followed his finger, their eyes landed on a wooden bench--and right beside it was a small column with a broken bust of the man on top. Olivia couldn’t make out much of the man’s face from here, but she kept getting the eerie feeling that his fractured eyes were somehow watching her. Constantly. Unblinking. She shuddered.
“You think the quakes are the reason they’re missing some parts?” She heard Jess ask aloud.
“I find it really hard to believe they somehow stood through all of those quakes and just lost a head or a leg. They might've been stolen.” Olivia theorized.
Jess put his hand on his chin, stroking an imaginary beard, “I think I remember seeing Hadrian have a couple of statue parts at his place…”
“What? You think old people just like to steal random body parts during their free time?” She grinned.
“That’s what I’d like to do when I retire!” He chuckled. Olivia rolled her eyes playfully.
The three came to a stop in front of a wall of hedge that stood a couple inches taller than Aiden. Unlike the rest of the hedges, this one probably hasn’t been trimmed in months. The surface was extremely uneven; hundreds of tiny branches and leaves stuck out and got tangled with one another. This hedge was also covered in flowers. Tons of them. Clusters of fluffy-looking, light pink flowers were scattered throughout, and were nearly as big as Olivia’s face. The ground was covered in old petals.
Olivia made sure that every strand of hair was tucked inside her hood. There was no way she wanted to spend the rest of the day picking out the twigs, leaves, and petals that’d get stuck in there.
Aiden walked to the right, staring into the bush and running his hand over it as he mumbled to himself, trying to remember where the shortcut was. Olivia and Jess awkwardly shuffled along. Aiden soon stopped, crouched down, then put his hand into the bush. He then took it out, huffed, scooched over a couple more inches, and repeated the process.
After a minute of searching, Aiden started talking to himself. “Maybe it’s on the left side? I could’ve sworn we--!” Aiden suddenly fell forward and into a large hole in the hedge.
Man, if Aiden hadn’t fell through, Olivia would’ve also thought he’d forgotten where the entrance was. The branches hid the hole well.
Jess helped Aiden to his feet. Aiden thanked him as he moved aside, motioning towards the hole.
“You guys go ahead.” Aiden said, “I’ll wait for you to go through.”
Jess and Olivia glanced at each other before Jess gave her a little bow, “After you.”
“How kind.” Olivia curtsied. She crouched and crawled through. The dirt was already making her pants a little damp.
Luckily, despite a few scratches, the crawl only lasted a few seconds.
She got up, cleaned herself off, and waited for the boys.
Jess’ head soon popped out from the hole. Leaves and tiny branches were caught in his hair. He wriggled himself out and brushed off his clothes.
“Here, let me help with your hair.” Olivia started plucking the sticks out.
“Thanks!” Jess said happily as he took off and shook the leaves off his beanie.
It was quiet for a couple of moments as they cleaned themselves up. Olivia felt her smile twitch.
“Hey, Jess,” She started slowly, “I’m… I’m sorry.”
Jess put his hat back on, “What for?”
“I know you don’t have the best feelings towards Aiden right now,” She stared at her feet, “I hope it doesn’t feel like I’m dragging you along.”
“What? No, no, no!” Jess exclaimed, “Look, I was real mad last night, but I wanted to go with you!”
Olivia brought her head back up to Jess, a tiny smile of relief on her face.
“And I’m sticking to my word. We’ll stick together no matter what.” Jess shoved his hands into his pockets. “And uh… We don’t really have a choice when it comes to trusting Aiden and his friends, but things aren’t gonna get better if I keep blowing up like I did yesterday--” A sudden grunt interrupted Jess and caused both of them to jump.
They turned to see Aiden struggling to get out of the bush. How much did he hear? Hopefully not too much. Hopefully.
Aiden tries to use his free arm to pull the rest of his body out, but after a few more seconds he stopped fighting and let his face fall to the ground.
“... I’m stuck again.” He could hear Olivia and Jess snicker as they grabbed his hand and began to pull. They were able to pull him out in no time.
“Thanks.” Aiden said as he shook off the dirt--and the embarrassment. “The memorials are on the other side of the cemetery. Should only take a minute to get there.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
When they entered the cemetery, Jess kept his eyes peeled for any familiar names on the gravestones. A few graves had rather unusual colors to them. There was a dusty red one, an uncommon shade, but not odd. Then he’d walk by a blue one; he’s never seen a grave that color before--well, Reuben’s memorial had bits of blue in it, does that count?--Then he walked by a purple grave, a green one, an orange one?
“This is… The happiest looking cemetery I’ve ever seen.” Olivia said as she beheld the rest of the graveyard.
“Is that a compliment?” Aiden asked.
Olivia kept staring at tombstones until she finally said “I don’t know, I’ve just never seen a place for the dead look so… Lively.”
Taking in the rest of the graveyard, Jess had to agree . What was usually a dark, gloomy, dreary place was so, so vibrant. Even under this cloudy, dull weather, the many colors still popped. This was more like a miniature festival than a cemetery! Many tombstone tops looked like roofs with their pointed tops and little overhangs. Their heights and widths would range from short and broad to tall and scrawny. Heck, Jess could spot a couple of graves as tall as him.
“What the heck are your cemeteries like?” Aiden glanced back at them.
“Plainer colors, I guess?” Jess shrugged, “You know, blacks, grays, browns, nothing too flashy.” The only exception Jess could think of was, once again, Reuben's memorial.
“Really?” Aiden sounded genuinely baffled by this. “We hardly got any of those. What do they mean?”
Olivia and Jess exchanged confused expressions with each other before Jess faced Aiden again, “Sadness? Loss? I don’t think there’s any real meaning behind those colors, honestly.”
“Right, we don’t typically associate bright colors with the dead.” Olivia added in, viewing the cemetery again. Scrawny trees and tiny flowers with stems that reached her knees that were peppered around the area; most were in between the graves. She thought about Aiden’s question, “I’m assuming the colors here represent something specific?”
“Yeah, buncha things. Too many for me to keep track of, but I remember the important ones.” Aiden started as they continued walking down the damp dirt path. “When a person dies, their friends and family can choose the color of their grave. It’s usually… Like… Hm. It’s supposed to show what the person was like when they were alive, ya know? Yellow for the happy people,” He explained while pointing to a shorter grave of said-color, “orange for determination, that sorta stuff. Stella’s memorized ‘em all. If you ever wanna know more, she’s the person to ask.”
As Aiden kept talking, Olivia and Jess kept taking in their surroundings. Jess had noticed something. Every single grave they passed was decorated with gems. The gems were placed close by the names and dates of those who passed, and seeing so many of them in various shapes, colors, and sizes made him curious…
“Hey, uh, what’s with the gems?” Jess spoke up, “Are they real?” He was wondering if maybe they were regular stones that were carved and painted. There was no way Obsidian Town could have an overabundance of minerals, especially since the citizens needed a mining license.
“Nah, they’re glass.” Aiden replied, “I thought they were real myself until we had to choose some gems for Lukas--” He suddenly stopped in his tracks. Jess and Olivia peered over and saw a lit redstone torch placed in front of a grave. Aiden plucked the torch from its place, a scowl on his face as he blew out the flame then chucked the burnt wood across the cemetery.
“Anyways, what was I sayin’?” He began walking again, as if nothing out of the ordinary happened.
‘What was that about?’ Jess thought to himself. It must’ve been linked to the cult, right? Why else would Aiden have done that?
“Right!” He snapped his fingers,” So the gems are basically like the colors of the graves. We had to go to this special place where the people there pulled out huge chests filled with those things. Took us forever to pick ‘em out.”
“Each color chosen means something for the person that passed…” Jess whispered to himself as Aiden’s words from earlier echoed through his mind. He was rather fond of how Obsidian Town remembered their dead. It was more uplifting than what he was used to. Maybe he could make some changes to the graveyards once they get back to Beacon Town.
Aiden was quiet for a minute before he added, “Gill took the longest. He was real worried his gem wouldn’t be good enough.” He paused. “He… he ended up crying.”
His voice got quieter, “I hated seeing him like that.”
Jess and Olivia both tried to think of what to say, what ‘s the next best thing to do, but Aiden immediately changed the subject.
“What do you guys put on your graves?” Aiden asked, he sounded ‘normal’ again, but kept facing away from the two.
Jess hesitated, “Names. Dates.”
“A description of the person who passed.” Olivia added.
“Just words? Doesn’t that get a little… Depressing?” Aiden narrowed his eyes.
“Oh, you think that’s sad? We once wrote out an entire dictionary on a guy’s grave back in our universe.” Jess answered jokingly. Olivia let out a little giggle, and they even heard a chuckle out of Aiden.
That small chuckle was all Jess needed to hear to continue telling quips and share short, funny stories at Aiden’s way to try and lighten the mood. Aiden was soon sharing his own experiences mixed in with his own humor. Aiden and Jess were bouncing off of each other, making fun of their own universes while Olivia would throw in her commentary every now and then.
‘This is so weird…’ Olivia thought to herself. The three of them laughing while walking through a cemetery… it’s something that’d usually feel inappropriate to do, but here she wasn’t all that bothered.
This whole experience has been surreal. Entering a rainbow of a cemetery through a bush felt like something that’d only happen in her dreams, yet here she was. Honestly, it was a nice change of pace to not feel worried for her and her friend’s life for a moment.
She had nearly forgotten the dread she felt when she originally suggested coming here.
And then Aiden spoke up.
“Okay, okay, we’re finally--” Aiden stopped. “Here.” All happiness in his tone had left.
That didn’t sound good. That didn’t sound good at all. Olivia grabbed onto the string of her hoodie and began to pull on it as she slowly peered over Aiden. Standing before him were two graves. Olivia’s eyes were drawn to the shorter one. She trailed down the grave, the coral color fading into a deep shade of red until she stopped at the flowers laying beside a lit, redstone torch.
Olivia held her breath. Jess got close to her as Aiden approached the torch. He grabbed it by it’s barely-scorched base and brought it to his face to blow out the flame. Instead of throwing it away like the last one, he just placed it to the side, only a few feet away from the grave. He wore an expression neither of them have ever seen on him before. Fear? Heartache? Pain.
“We’re here.” He said again. His voice completely devoid of energy. His body was stiff as he walked to the side of the grave, with his hands curled into tight fists and placed at his sides. There was another redstone torch placed in front of the grave to the right, but Aiden didn’t say anything. Olivia took a few small steps forward and gave him a small nod.
As she knelt down in front of the grave--in front of her grave--she heard Aiden tell Jess ‘Come on’, followed by the sound of footsteps growing distant.
She sat alone at her grave.
She didn’t want to read the text. She really didn’t. Isn’t that funny? That was one of the main reasons she wanted to come here. To see if there was a chance she could read about her death, what happened to her, but now that she was here, she was terrified. She looked everywhere else but the epitaph before her. She stared at the small bouquet of flowers on the dirt--the dirt… She noticed it seemed… Messier compared to the other graves. Like someone tried digging through it. The bouquet, though! There was a mix of flowers held together by a red ribbon. Clusters of tiny, magenta flowers, a few pointed, white flowers with many petals, and a type of flower she actually knew the name of: Lilys.
She then brought her gaze up, catching a quick glimpse of her name written in gold, to observe the gems placed into the tombstone. Two orange gems, one yellow, one gold, another maroon, and the gem in the center was amber. They formed an arch around the words in the center.
‘Stop avoiding it.’ She told herself, but she didn’t listen. She turned to Lukas’ grave. She had to see his. She had to. It was right here and--and he’s her friend.
His grave was turquoise and had thin, white stripes that stretched across the top, and seven gems instead of six. Three on each side, and the last gem placed above his epitaph. He was given flowers as well.
The words engraved in the stone read: “LUKAS: Courageous and loyal. An inspiring leader and a brilliant friend.”
Short but wonderful. It was perfect. Reading it over and over again, she thought about just how lucky she and Jess were with having their friend still around. He’s done so much for them. Constantly helping Jess run Beacon Town, aiding the citizens, always visiting her and Axel whenever he got the chance… He could’ve left them during that Witherstorm. He could’ve ditched them at any moment when things got too rough, but he never did.
‘I need to give Lukas a hug when I get back.’ Olivia thought to herself. Lukas could still leave them one day without warning. He could finally get sick of them, die in a brutal fight, or--or end up being kidnapped like this Lukas--Olivia squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head, trying to get those awful thoughts out. Don’t think about that. He’s still alive. He still cares about them. He loves them.
Olivia kept her eyes closed for a moment longer before finally bringing her attention back to her own grave. She forced herself to read the words written for her; “OLIVIA: An intelligent, creative, and hardworking engineer. A bright spark of joy even during the darkest of days.”
Olivia stared at her words. A weird sense of reassurance was arising. She’s never thought highly of herself. She’d sometimes convince herself that others couldn’t tolerate her, and that she was one mistake away from ruining everything. She wondered if this Olivia ever felt a similar way. Was she constantly trying to make sure she said and did the right things? Try to fix any issue immediately so her friends didn’t think she was useless? Always second guessing her own thoughts?
Did this Olivia know her friends always loved her? Or was she riddled with fears and doubts until her sudden end?
‘She died a couple of years ago, didn’t she?’ Olivia tried to recall any mention of her death from Aiden. She wasn’t certain, but whether it was a few years ago, or a few months ago, didn’t change the fact that she died so soon.
She was young.
Younger than her.
To have her life end on an abrupt note… It scared her. It scared her so much. Everything could be taken away one day.
As she sat over her body, she felt her fingers begin to dig into the dirt, like they were trying to reach in and find the other Olivia’s hand. A sick form of curiosity made her want to know more. More about this Olivia. Her life. Her mind. To have a connection with her. It was her body she was sitting over, afterall. Her corpse. Her--
“Olivia?” Jess placed his hand on her shoulder. “Are you doing okay?”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
“Come on.” Aiden gave Jess a light tap with his hand. He started walking away from Olivia. Jess hesitated. He looked at his friend for a second more before leaving with Aiden.
“We just needa give her some space.” Aiden said.
“Right, totally understand.” Jess wanted to stick around for a few minutes longer to study his friends’ graves, but that could wait. He didn’t want to make Olivia feel like he was breathing down her neck.
Jess thought back to the many instances where his friends’ lives were in danger, when they were so close to being taken away from him. He hated seeing his friends’ lives at stake more than anything; he’d go through Hell and back to protect them, and to be in a place where their deaths became a reality was so hard to wrap his head around.
Lukas left without a trace. No familiar faces to comfort him during his last moments, only enemies looming over him while he was in an unknown place. Just thinking about his fate made Jess worry sick about his Lukas back at home.
It was silent for a few minutes. Only their footsteps filled the void.
“So…” Jess started, wanting to make small talk, “What do the colors for Olivia and Lukas’ graves mean?”
“Olivia’s creativity.” Aiden replied, sounding short. “And Lukas’--” He paused and scanned the cemetery. He took a left turn and continued walking between the graves. “He’s…Don’t make fun of us, but his color stands for friendship.”
“Friendship?” Jess perked up at the word.
“I know, it’s probably super cheesy or whatever, but it fits him. It really does.” Aiden said.
“No, no, I completely agree! He’s a great friend--one of the best! If I had to recount all the times he’s been there for me, we’d be here all day.”
“Right. Same here.” They stopped at another grave with another redstone torch in front of it. This grave was short and purple, with many cool-colored gems placed in it. Jess didn’t recognize the name.
Aiden grabbed the torch and blew out the flame. Jess decided to ask another question.
“Any idea why The Awakening puts those torches there?”
“Probably for no good reason.” Aiden answered through gritted teeth as he chucked the wood as hard as he could across the cemetery.
There was something unnerving about the torches left at the grave. Their red glow would take over the colors of the graves, and their light under a thick, cloudy sky would claim your attention and make it hard to pull away. Their soft crackling would fill in the silence whenever he and Aiden didn’t talk; the occasional loud snaps from the flames would make Jess believe there was a threat following them.
Jess stopped at a tombstone and picked up a vase of flowers that had fallen aside. “The gems on their graves, what do they mean? Do you remember ‘em?”
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’d remember what the gems on my own friends’ graves would mean!” Aiden snapped.
“No, I didn’t mean it like that!” Jess held the vase tighter. “I was just--I wanted to know more about them.” Great. Now they’re both feeling terrible.
Aiden’s demeanor softened when he saw Jess’ reaction. “No, it’s okay. I’m sorry. I’ve been--” He hesitated, “I’ve just been thinking about someone is all.”
“No, it’s no problem.” Jess carefully placed the small vase back upright. He folded his arms and joined Aiden’s side.
“I’m uh, still interested to hear bout those gems if you’re wanting to share.” He said.
“Yeah. I can do that for ya.” Aiden answered.
“For Lukas,” Aiden began, walking through the grass. “Gill chose blue. I remember that one’s loyalty. Gold for compassion. White for safety--he’d always double check our belongings every time to make sure we were prepared.”
Aiden stopped and grabbed a torch, “It was kinda annoying, but I miss it now.” He blew it out and threw the wood.
They kept moving.
“Rose picked pink.” Aiden started running his fingers over the grave tops, “She was real embarrassed when she chose it. Kept refusing to show us cause she thought we’d laugh at her.”
“I’m guessing pink’s for love?” Jess said, trying to make sure he wouldn’t trample any flowers.
“Yeah, and--” Aiden chuckled, “Rose wanted his description to be: Pretty blond dork with a decent sense of style. All of us were actually on board with it.”
“Did you end up pulling through with it?” Jess asked.
“Nah, the guys making the grave wouldn’t allow it.” Aiden spotted a couple of gravestones with torches by them. They were already burnt out. He grabbed two of the torches while Jess grabbed the last.
“What a bunch of killjoys.” Jess joked. Aiden laughed as he prepared to throw the burnt wood. Jess mimicked each step of Aiden’s. Hold, aim, then throw. Once they lost sight of the rubbish, they followed the dirt path to the entrance of the cemetery.
The cemetery wasn’t boxed in by hedges like the park, instead, it had a stone wall.
Aiden leaned against the wall. It didn’t look like the most comfortable surface--the rocks were jagged and would probably fall apart in moments--but he seemed unaffected by it. Jess stood nearby and took a peek through the gate beside them. Unlike the rough, uneven walls, the black fence was tall, sturdy, and had a huge, elegantly curved arch.
“Olivia’s got a few similar gems,” Aiden started, putting his hands in his pocket, “Two golds, yellow… She’s got amber--Man, I always mix those three up. They sound different enough but when they’re placed by each other, they all look the same. Amber’s slightly darker than yellow, but not as dark as gold. Amber’s positivity.”
“Lotta happy ones for her.” Jess commented. He’d been staring at the decorated buildings through the gate’s bars as he listened. He could spot bits of pots filled with flowers on the other side of the wall, their colors as eye-catching as the cemetery.
“Always made us happy.” Aiden said with a shrug. “She also had… Ah…” He pressed his lips together, “Orange! She had that one too. And then there’s…” He had to stop to think again.
“It’s not… Well, it looks like red, but it’s darker… Ah, shoot.” Aiden cursed to himself.
“Carmine? Maroon?” Jess tilted his head.
Aiden snapped his fingers, “Maroon! Right! Creativity; same thing as her grave. Picked it myself.” He said rather proudly.
“You guys really cared about her.” Jess mumbled. He tilted his head towards Aiden, “And I’m sure Olivia loved you guys all the same.”
Aiden stared back at him.
A small smile spread across his face, “Thanks.”
The two became quiet and looked over the array of colorful graves before them. The clouds slowly began to part; gems glistened as the rays of sun shone down on them.
“Should we check on Olivia now?” Jess asked after a few minutes of silence.
Aiden got off the stone wall and stretched his back, “Yeah, let’s go.”
~ ~ ~ ~
When the two returned to Olivia, the last thing they wanted to see was to see her in distress. The tips of her fingers were shoved into the dirt below, her eyes were stuck on the golden words in front of her, her mouth was parted--barely moving--with no voice to match. Jess couldn’t tell if she was trembling or not, but she was scared. Very scared.
Jess bit his lip and approached his friend. Aiden was right behind.
“Olivia?” Jess placed his hand on her shoulder, “Are you doing okay?”
Olivia jumped and jerked her hands out of the dirt.
“Yes--! Yeah, no, no don’t worry, I’m fine. Thanks--thank you for checking on me.” She replied frantically. She took deep breaths.
Before Jess could question anything, Olivia spoke up.
“Aiden, this uh--the substance mixed into the stone,” Her fingers trailed down the tombstone, “is it redstone dust?”
Her voice was shaky.
Aiden glanced at Jess, who was equally nervous as him, then said, “Actually, it is.”
He took a step closer to Olivia, “They don’t usually allow people to mix stuff like redstone or glowstone dust with the colors--especially cause they’re hard to find--but they made an exception for us.”
Olivia nodded along, blinking back tears.
Jess read her epitaph, “Guess all Olivia’s are just the greatest engineers out there, huh?”
“Damn right. She didn’t have a bunch of dust to work with, but she’d still crank out machine after machine like no tomorrow.” Aiden said, “Man, I remember every year for her birthday that’d be all she’d ever ask for. Not weapons, not new journals, not even a dang cake, just redstone dust. Course, the only places you could find ‘em were in caves or old shrines, right?” He asked while facing Lukas’ grave and grabbing the lit redstone torch below.
“Yup, we found a bunch of it yesterday.” Jess said, sitting besides Olivia.
“Right, and since it was so dangerous, she told us to not worry bout gettin’ it because ‘It’d be stupid to risk your life for some red powder’.” Aiden gestured with the torch, the flame getting frighteningly close to his hair.
“Well, I’d always lose track of dates and forget to get her a gift, so one of the other guys would back me up and tell Olivia we bought a gift ‘together’, and I felt so bad.” He thankfully blew out the fire after saying that.
“So then guess what I did one day?” Aiden said.
“Walked out and found a bag of redstone on the ground?” Jess asked sarcastically.
Aiden laughed, “I wish.”
Aiden began pacing, the trail of smoke whirling around him, “But I decided I’d bust into one of those dumb shrine and find some dust for her, and I didn’t tell anyone bout it besides Jesse. He was on board with the plan, he was great at findin’ stuff, plus two people finding dust was much easier than one.” Aiden fiddled with the burnt wood, “We headed off to the nearest shrine and actually found enough dust to fill up a bag and a half, but cause of the state of that dump, some rooms would collapse after you opened the door!”
“You two ended up getting hurt, didn’t you?” Olivia had her hand on her head, already concerned over the direction of this story.
“Course we did!” Aiden threw his arms up. “I swear anytime the two of us were together, things would fall apart or we’d break a bone--” Aiden stopped his talking to quickly chuck the wood away. “Anyways, anyways, we got back home right on time for Olivia’s birthday and man did we look awful. Clothes were all dirty, got some real bad scrapes on my knees, Jesse grabbed so much dust it looked like his fingers were covered in blood, and I somehow got a black eye? I think the top of a chest smacked me...”
Olivia rubbed her temples, “You two really shouldn’t have risked your lives over a birthday present--”
“That’s exactly what she said!” Aiden exclaimed, “Went through all that trouble, and you know how she reacted?”
“Panicked?” Olivia asked.
“Bet she loved it.” Jess said, giving Olivia a nudge.
“She did--but Hero did she freak out! Dropped her cake and rushed over to get us cleaned up. Olivia was wrapping up one of Jesse’s arms--” Aiden thought to himself for a second, “--I think a big rock landed on it? But she was going off on us. Raising her voice and lecturing us like she was our mom, telling us it’s a miracle we were still in one piece, and why in Hero’s name we did something so stupid.”
“I mean, it wasn’t stupid if things worked out for you.” Jess pointed out.
“Yeah, but still.” Aiden chuckled, “It was stupid. It was so, so stupid. But after that, she loved our present. I’d never seen her smile so much. She was working on her machinery, telling me and Jesse how everything worked while we pretended to understand.”
Aiden carefully leaned on Olivia’s grave, “Hero knows I didn’t understand a single thing she was sayin’, but seeing her so happy…” His smile grew as his voice softened, “It was great.”
“That’s all so sweet…” Olivia spoke softly. “I love it.”
She was shaking again.
Jess turned to his friend to mention something, but stopped when he saw Olivia staring at the ground, fingers picking at the dirt just like she was when they came back. That same, terrified expression on her face.
“Liv--?” Jess mumbled, but Olivia started rambling nonsense.
“I don’t know if my words mean much to you--I know I’m not her--but you’re a good friend, Aiden.” Her nails started to dig into the ground, “All of this, all that you’ve done for Olivia--you--you--Even when I just--” She kept stumbling over her words, “Even when she died one day you kept being so kind to me--”
The more she kept talking, the more concerned--the more scared--Aiden and Jess became.
“Hey, hey are you alright?” Jess reached out to hold her, but Olivia shot her head back up.
“I’m under here.” She whispered. Her voice was so unsteady.
Jess was taken aback, “What?”
“I’m under here.” She said again. “I’m so close.”
Her hand began to claw at the dirt, “I’m so close. My body’s all mangled up in that box below, and--and my hair’s so long now.” She felt sick talking about this, she felt sick thinking about it. “It’d be so easy to just dig myself up. For Aiden to see her again. Jesse--Jess, we’re so close. I could look at myself. Look at my body. I’m--”
“Olivia!” Jess shook her, “Do you want to get out of here?”
Aiden wanted to offer his support, but Olivia instantly got on her feet.
“Yes. Yes I want to leave. I want to go home.” She kept repeating that last sentence while she hugged herself, breathing heavily. She was freezing.
“Right, we need to head back anyways.” Aiden’s stomach was in knots seeing Olivia like this. His hands turned to fists, “I should’ve known better. I shouldn’t have taken you here. I’m sorry--”
“Don’t.” Olivia cut in. “I wanted to go. You took me. I saw--I saw what I needed to. I appreciate it. Thank you.” She was stiff as a board.
Olivia took one last deep breath, “Let’s go home.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Damn them.
Damn them all.
Locked every damn door and window in this house. They’re hiding her, he knows they’re hiding her.
Did they really think locking themselves in would stop him? He used to live in this Hero forsaken house; he knows every nail, screw, and plank that makes up this despicable place.
He still remembers that trapdoor on the roof. He knows how to claw his way up there. He’ll pry it open with his own bare hands.
He’ll find her.
He will.

New Order/Old Order React to S/O getting Injured
(this got posted while i was working on it and i just deleted it so here we go again, minor angst and small description of blood)
New Order
Petra
-Almost every battle for Petra is another adrenaline rush, practice, and a fight for glory
-This is how it was going, as normal, until she heard a cry
-It wasn’t a battle cry, no, it was a cry for help from your voice
-Her head whipped to the direction of the sound as she saw the red liquid fly from you onto a blade
-She felt something boil up in her, she felt so many emotions rush at once, anger, fear, spite, anxiety
-She forgot about her original targeted opponent, running faster than she usually could, and sliced the one who spilled the blood of her lover into pieces
-She didn’t think about her next move, she just took her hand into her tightened grasp and continued to run, and run, and run
-You collapsed onto the ground with a stinging pain in your body, as she collapsed with her lungs burning
-She did her best to treat the scar that was still oozing red, her hands still shaking from the mix of adrenaline and fear
-Once she was sure you wouldn’t bleed to death until she could find someone else to heal you, she just gently lays on you until time changes the sky once more
Lukas
-He let his guard down, if it weren’t for him slipping up, this wouldn’t have happened
-He stays close to you if he can help it in a fight, always making sure you were handling yourself well
-But then he got too focused on his survival and the second he finally turned around to check up on you
-Is the second you were struck
-He knew that if you two didn't get out of there asap, you would both be laying face down in the dirt
-Yes, that was a preferable way to go, with your loved one, but he still hasn’t finished his story of his life, and nor have you
-He dropped his weapon and bolted, you in his arms with whatever strength was left
-You took refuge in some hole in the ground, a cave, a hole, shelter, whatever anyone called it, it was safe
-With heavy breaths, he “calmly” patched you up, well as calm as he could get
-With the wound bandaged, he took your hand into his and told you everything
-How worried he is, how worried he is now, how this was all his fault for not noticing, how he...
-He falls silent, too many thoughts to put into speech
-At the end of the night, you two are huddled together, whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears as the break of dawn starts cracking through the sunset
Axel
-Axel was mostly confident in his fighting abilities, despite how he used to run in fear, he always was
-And all that confidence got into his head as he slammed himself into any enemy he could, effectively losing track of you
-He barely heard your plea for assistance as he took a minute to glance over to see what the commotion was about
-Never in his life would he expect so many realizations
-That every battle wasn’t just a breeze, that he could loose you, you could just slip away into oblivion and he wouldn’t be able to see you ever again. Never hear your voice, your laugh as he tells another corny joke, your smile as you do so, your eyes shimmering when you look at him
-He wasn’t going to let that happen.
-He had no issues with smashing any predator that came close to you, as well as he had no issues with heaving you over his shoulder
-He wasn’t the fastest, not with his structure, but he tried. He tried for you, and your survival
-Who knows where you were when he finally let himself fall into the weight of his knees that hurt with soreness, who cared? You were safe-ish and that’s what mattered
-He has no experience with anything medical, but he does remember some of the blurry details from someone having to deal with his wounds when he was being too rough
-He tries to follow the procedure, often getting confused but he does it, he gets you healed enough for the few hours it will take to find your way out of this mess
-He apologizes to you, tells you what he realized and how careful he should’ve been so that whatever size of the chance of you leaving him behind to go with the dead would’ve never existed
-He does what he can to push those thoughts out of his mind and picks you up once more, legs still sore, he goes to find the nearest place with anyone who can help with wounds
-He wasn’t going to let you leave him like that ever again
Olivia
-Olivia likes to fight from the sidelines, using either bows or redstone contraptions to help aid in the fight
-Meanwhile, you were on the other side of the fight, doing what you did to stay alive
-Except you failed to do that this time
-You’re not sure what, but something got you, your head was light, your vision spinning and blurring in and out of awareness
-You managed to let out a scream from the sensation that sent a shock wave through your figure
-And Olivia heard it
-She disregarded everything, rushing through the area, picking something up something that could be used as a close ranged weapon, or even something shield like, anything that could help
-She skidded across the surface of the ground and tried to fight, but even if she memorized her friend’s movements, she never got to understand their technique and how they did it
-She took a hold of you and told you to run, even if it hurts to just run, she promised to catch up
-No matter if you wanted to resist, you ended up listening, it burned but it was better that getting a sword pierced through your rib cage
-You heard someone catching up, you gaze over and see Olivia struggling to keep up, but you saw the determination mixed with worry in her expression
-You two took a sharp turn and you were finally out of sight. Olivia took whatever resource was near and tried to disinfect and bandage the crimson hole in you
-She was mostly experienced, having to deal with Axel and Petra’s rough fighting style, she knew what she was doing but yet why was it so hard to focus!?
-Everything was cold and numb to her, the second that scream reached her it became so...wrong
-It was like loosing color in the world for a second, the only love in her world shattered, like a vase being pushed off the ledge by a cat
-The next hours were spent with her regaining posture, letting her know you were still here and that the moment in the fight wasn’t going to repeat and go totally wrong anytime soon, she had you for the next years of her time left being alive
-Getting up, you continued your journey, hand in hand, letting nothing stop you
Old Order
Magnus
-Magnus was off being himself, exploding what he can, burning what he can, slashing what he can
-You were about to corner your prey before you felt something a bit warmer than should be interacted with on your foot
-You step away from the flames and shake the feeling of over heating off
-But that gave your foe enough time to tackle you and shove a blade straight into you
-A blood curling shriek was the last thing Magnus expected, at least from you
-He knew what to expect, but seeing so much scarlet leak out of you made him sick
-And he was even sicker when someone dared to even think of hurting the person he loves on his watch
-He didn’t hesitate to dart over and do so much more damage to the being than the two of you felt
-Getting up, he observed who and what was left, and made a decision. Either stay, fight, and protect you, or just take you and book it
-Either option left him exhausted, tired, and wanting to just pass out already
-But then he saw the blood that kept on spilling, and for once he became scared
-Refusing to show it though, he did what he could to get it to stop leaking so much, to stop you from hurting
-Being a griefer did also mean knowing how to take care of you and your partner-in-crime(s) after all
-Then he let loose a bit, you were alive, you were strong, you were going to be alright
-And he was going to make a promise to protect you with his entire life, no matter the cost
Ellegaard
-Staying close to a team mate was always helpful when your more of a support fighter in these cases
-Paying attention to them and not getting carried away with your own safety was also very helpful
-But she failed at that, and she knew that once some blood got spilled onto her cheek
-It took her a minute to calculate, the only way blood would’ve spilled from that angle was either if you spilled blood and it so happened to hit her or...
-Your blood was...
-Her ears started ringing once she registered which outcome it was
-She didn’t care anymore, she released an anger even the gods themselves would fear
-She ran within a frenzy, forcing you with
-Once the feeling of spite died down from exhaustion, she spent the rest of the hours making sure that the damage was healed as much as possible
-The sky transitioned and you were on your way
(was going to add soren, gabriel, and ivor but i kinda lost the motivation to sorry)

Legends in the Zombie Apocalypse Pt. 1
Hey guys please feel free to ask us anything! Also this is if they didn’t have the Apex Training
Tumblr media
Bangalore: She was trained with the military, so it isn’t hard to believe she would know how to survive. She would have her essentials and possibly a military grade vehicle. She would know where all the bases are and she also has a radio, just in case there are survivors who would need her help. Well, one day someone come through.
“Survivors.......ivors..... an.. ear this... please.... oin me at...” its faint, but she knows exactly where this is. She heads to a nearby base and immediately starts up an old airship. It takes a while, but she does make it to this island. From what she can see, there are no zombies. Only potential.
As soon as she lands, she is still cautious. After all she doesn’t know this stranger and doesn’t know if this island is infested. As she wonders around, she sees from the corner of her eye movement. She is instantly aiming, her finger not on the trigger, but ready should she feel threatened.
“Whoa whoa, no need to have that out. I suppose you’ve heard my transmission, right?”
Bloodhound: Would not have any problem surviving whenever the food or products of any kind expired. They would just kinda wonder wherever there was the least amount of foot traffic of zombies. These lonely journeys often were uneventful, so whenever they find traces it of an actual person wondering deep in the woods, they instantly feel act this person down. What they see really confuses them.
Before them is a woman with growning black hair. She is wearing a white top with belts over it. As she walks, she stops dead in her tracks. Bloodhound is confused, but keeps quiet and keeps watching. “Whoever you are, I feel you watching.”
They are astonished to hear that someone could even sense their presence. They still decide not to move. After another minute, the woman shook her head and signed. “Shut up...”
Finally after a little bit more time observing the woman, they finally stepped from where they were observing. “Hello, I am Blothoondr you can call me Bloodhound.”
Caustic: It surprised him when no one answered his bosses calls for help. But it didn’t mean he wouldn’t finish what he already started. So with the entire on-the-clock staff of Humbert Labs dead, he decided to burn the place to the ground. Before he could strike the burners, the radio that played constant music over the speaks began to turn to static. “Run.....run!....zombies.... hoards of them....oh God.... save us all.... no.. no! What ar-... why did you let them in?!...” what followed was the blood curdling screams of the announcer and the other people they were with.
So instead of setting the place ablaze, he decided to stay. He gathered all of this colleagues body’s and took them to the disposal area. Looking in from the outside, he watched them all burn. So he lived alone inside the lab. For a while he just reread all of his colleagues research. But slowly, he began to grow restless. He couldn’t leave the lab unless he planned on never coming back, since someone would need to verify his credentials. So instead, he began to adjust his formulas and make them specifically for the monsters outside. He wasn’t afraid by any means. But if there was anything to destroy the human race, it would be him.
So as he worked, he slowly found himself dazed by the sound of the static. He couldn’t shut it off because he didn’t know where to turn it off. But in a way, it gave him some comfort. Over time, he found himself humming along to the static, whenever it would grow louder or softer, he instantly followed. So when it didn’t follow the same pattern, he grew curious. So as he worked, he paid close attention to the radio. One day, it happened. “Survivors.......ivors..... an.. ear this... please.... oin me at...” He had heard of this place before. His boss had mentioned to him that they might move their facility to this canyon. More privacy he supposed.
Without much thought, he gathered all of his belongings and left the lab, heading to this canyon with high hopes.

Return to the Vault
"It's time to go. We need to hurry if we want to move on to Jesse's plan.. Which one were we on?"
Petra took the still unconscious Jesse from Lukas's lap, picking him up and making sure to be careful of every movement.
"Plan B or C, I can't remember," Yellow replied nonchalantly as Riot helped him to his feet.
"It doesn't matter-- let's just get everyone back to the sub. Once Jesse wakes back up we can ask him about his master plan."
Lukas got up next, gathering himself a bit before he went over to assist Gil. He hoped dearly for some relaxation time back in the Vault. A little bit of time to recover. Hell, maybe even something as simple as a shower. A walk along the island, perhaps. Something calm, away from the seemingly neverending waves of chaos.
Lukas picked Gil up carefully, adjusting him so that his head was resting against his shoulder securely in order to avoid hurting him further. Gil was asleep, and only groaned lightly from the new movement, however he eventually sunk into the hold and relaxed.
Axel picked up Romeo's body from the ground. He knew Jesse wouldn't want to leave him behind. Taking him back to the Vault so the Collosuses can give him a proper send off was the best option.
Olivia and Radar helped back up the tech, helping each other carry it out to the van. The dock wasn't too far, but the crowded van ride was obviously going to be an issue with keeping the wounded comfortable. Olivia tried to pack everything into the back of the van as secluded as possible, meanwhile Radar tried to stuff everything small enough under the seats.
Ivor collected the notes and books that had been thrown across the makeshift table and packed them all together, tying them with a loose string he'd found laying over one of the crates in the warehouse. Once they were tightly bound and secure, he took them out to the van where Olviia and Radar were still struggling with their gadgets and slipped the stack of papers and books into the glove box.
Soon everyone piled in, and somehow everyone managed to fit. Petra drove, and she made sure to take back roads, faster shortcuts to stay out of the way of regular traffic. The ride to the docks only took around ten minutes, and when they finally arrived, Petra parked around the back of a stack of crates, making sure the van was hidden decently for the time being.
“Alright, the Terminal should still be waiting for us beside the dock. Not too far away,” Petra put the van in park and opened the door, stepping out, “Let’s hurry, we don’t wanna get caught.”
The back doors of the van opened, and everyone took their turns getting out. Yellow, who’d been pressed up against Axel for the ride, sighed in relief and stretched.
“Thank God, I was close to losing my mind,” he mumbled.
“It was a ten-minute ride, Yellow.”
“Yeah, ten minutes in Axel’s armpit, Petra.”
“Fair.”
Most helped unpack the van, whilst Lukas and Axel carried Gil and Jesse to the Terminal’s hatch. Axel set Jesse lightly down on the pier before twisting open the hatch and helping Lukas down. Eventually once Lukas had made it down with Gil, Axel picked Jesse back up and followed him down into the massive sub.
Lukas laid Gil down gently on his back, trying to make sure he was comfortable. Gil shifted against the metal ground, moving a hand subconsciously closer to his neck. Clearly, he wasn’t.
Lukas got up and opened one of the nearby cabinets. He searched through walls of them, until finally one of them held a few towels, sheets, and worn-down pillows. Clearly Romeo had never used the Terminal for any long trips. Lukas grabbed a couple pillows and a cotton sheet and shut the cabinet. Though, as he was carrying the sheet back to Gil, he heard a light thump on the floor.
He moved the pillows from his view and saw by his feet a small knitted doll. Curious, he knelt down and picked up the doll with whatever available space he had in his hand. He went back over to Gil, kneeling beside him and lifting his head carefully to slide the two pillows under his upper back and head to support his injured neck. Then he draped the sheet over him carefully and made sure he was in the best supported position. Gil sank into the pillows and relaxed, and Lukas blew out a quiet sigh of relief.
He glanced down at the doll still in his hand. It was small, made for the hands of a child, and had woven dark brown hair and chestnut colored skin, with small blue gemstones that made the eyes. It had a name written in permanent marker on its satin blue shirt. ‘Esmerelda.’
Lukas didn’t know exactly who this doll belonged to, but he decided to keep it with him anyway and ask about it in the Vault.
Lukas’s thoughts were quickly interrupted by Jesse, who’d been laid up against a wall by Axel, beginning to stir in his sleep.
“Jesse?” he kept his voice quiet, scooting over to him quickly.
Jesse mumbled something incoherent, that sounded mostly like sleep-talk.
“… What was that?” Lukas spoke mostly to himself with a small grin on his face, just taking amusement in the presumed sleep talking.
“Where’d my pants go?” Jesse mumbled, a little louder this time, opening his eyes slightly and catching Lukas lightly off guard. Lukas chuckled and put a hand to Jesse's cheek.
"They were a little ruined, but we're going to get you new ones from the Vault. How are you feeling?"
"Tired.. But I don't think I'm gonna be able to get back to sleep." Jesse leaned into Lukas's touch and blew a light sigh through his nose.
"At least that's improvement. Still, rest.. You lost a lot of blood. And I mean a lot," Lukas gave him a small grin, "And know that once you're recovered you will be getting a good scolding, dummy."
"Ah, deserved.." Jesse returned the small smile, but grumbled and put his hands over his stomach.
"Something wrong?" Lukas asked with a tint of concern in his tone.
"I've just.. Got a weird feeling.. It doesn't hurt or anything I just feel... Odd," Jesse replied with a light grimace.
"Huh.. Really? What's it like?" Lukas sounded more curious this time.
"Like.. Kind of a lurching feeling.. Like you know when you go down a drop on a rollercoaster? That's specific but-- it's like that.."
"Hm. Interesting.. I got a similar feeling a while ago.. Maybe it's just stress, or something from blood loss.. Just rest for now, we'll figure it out later.."
----
Soon everyone was on the sub, and they launched from the docks. The Terminal's trip only took around a half an hour before the island Vault came into sight. Then again, the Terminal moved quite slowly at the time, as to offer a bit of smooth rest and recovery to both Jesse and Gil.
Once the sub arrived at the Vault, the bay door opened and the Terminal drifted into the large hangar as water filled it. Once the sub finally came to a stop, the room drained of all of the sea water slowly, bringing the Terminal down gently onto its props. The door hissed, popping open and lowering to the metal ground. At the bottom of the ramp, a Collosus was already waiting for the agents arrival. He must've ran out once the water had cleared.
Lukas was the first to make his way down, Gil leaning against him for support. He greeted the Collosus first, holding out his one free hand for a handshake.
The Collosus shook his hand, giving him a greeting nod before introducing himself.
"Welcome back from your journey. I see things may have been a bit shaky," he glanced to Gil, who was barely awake enough to respond, "I am Wally, Romeo's chief Collosus. I apologize for not being available before. There were things I was taking care of. However, now I am available, if you need anything."
"Ah, Wally. Jesse will need to speak with you once he's recovered.. Until then, can we get a medbay for the wounded?" Lukas replied, mostly concerned with the condition of his friends rather than formal introductions.
"Of course, I'll send alert. And I'll make sure to assist the others in any way I can."
Wally turned to leave, and Lukas quickly caught his attention.
"Oh, commander Wally, before you go--" Lukas pulled the small doll from his pocket and held it out to the man, "I found this aboard the Terminal.. I don't know who's it is or if it belongs to anyone here, but I was hoping you might know."
Wally took the doll from Lukas's hand gently, studying it for a moment before grazing a finger over the doll's woven hair. He read over the cursive name in the shirt and for a moment, his expression softened.
"I.. Believe I can help."
----
After a good hour, everyone had settled in. Wally walked alone in the hallway, relaxing in the calm again. Though even though the setting was calm, his mind wasn't. In fact, his mind was nothing but a blur.
He spoke privately with Jesse minutes earlier. He'd heard the news of Romeo, he'd been given the lapel of his leader. And for the moment, the wave of emotion hadn't yet hit him. For now, he was stuck in an emotional limbo. He held the lapel in one hand, tightly, and he could feel the dried blood on the polished gems. In the other hand, he held the doll by its small woven hand. He went to deal with other things before worrying about anything else.
He stopped at the end of the hallway, knocking lightly on one of the smaller doors. There was fiddling with the handle, before it popped open and swung outwards messily. A small boy was on the other side, just barely tall enough to reach the handle.
"Hi Daddy, you were gone for a while, 's everything OK?" the little boy asked in a squeaky, clearly sleepy voice.
"Everything is.. Fine, Conner. Here, someone gave me something today I think you'll recognize," Wally knelt down on one knee so he was at the boy's level, "Do you remember Esmerelda?"
"My doll!! Granny made me it before we left!" Conner replied excitedly, a smile growing on his face. Wally smiled at his son's sudden excitement, and held out the small doll to him.
"Well, someone found old little Esmerelda on the Terminal. Looks like someone lost her while sneaking around."
"I wasn't sneaking!!" Conner quickly took the doll with a bright smile and hugged it to his chest, "Uncle Romeo used to let me come on with him. As long as-"
"As long as you were wearing your safety gloves," Wally chuckled at the little memory, however quickly remembered the news of Romeo's departure. He'd have to say something to his son about the loss of someone who he considered family, and he dreaded it. Conner was too young. A six year old shouldn't have to deal with such a tremendous loss. But he couldn't hide it from him, it would just be more cruel to do so.
"Hey buddy, we've got to have a little talk.." Wally started carefully, the sudden change in tone catching Conner's attention.
"Is it about Uncle Romeo? I promise he always made sure I was-"
"Uncle Romeo's.. Probably gonna be gone for a while, kiddo.."
Conner tilted his head, confused.
"Gone? Like he's busy? Cause he's busy a lot!!" He didn't let the drop in his father's tone change his mood, lost in his little kid bliss.
"Gone as in.. Most likely won't be coming back."
"What? Why would he leave?"
"He didn't have a choice, bud.. Someone made him.. And he can't come back now.."
"Oh... Well that's OK!! We can still talk to him, right?"
At this point, Wally struggled to say anything else. Tears stung at the corners of his eyes, and he scooped Conner up in a hug.
"I'm sorry, Conner, we can't.. We can try and say goodbye, but he won't be able to reply.. He'll be able to hear us though. We can make little recordings for him, if you want to.. And we can try and.. Send them to him."
----
Gil's awakening was harsh, as he woke up in his hospital bed from a nightmare. He shot up off the pillow, immediately regretting doing so as a sharp pain shot through his neck. He fell back down, sinking back into the soft pillow and trying to recover. He was drenched in sweat and shaking, and he could barely remember his nightmare. He had no clue what he was so worked up about.
Jesse was in the bed to his right, and other than that, the room was empty. Jesse appeared to still be asleep, an arm and leg hanging off the side of the bed while his head was stuck under his pillow. The medbay was almost completely silent besides Jesse's light snoring and Gil's own breathing.
Gil tried to remember his nightmare, knowing he wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. What had him that worked up? He tried his best to remember back, but couldn't seem to make out any sort of image besides blurred green. Eventually, after around ten minutes of desperately trying, he gave up and just shut his eyes.
Suddenly, as he cleared his mind, it all came flooding back, until his eyes shot open again and he slapped his hands to his forehead. He was overrun quite quickly with a massive migraine, and static sounds in his ears. The buzzing took a while to go away, and soon he was once again left in silence.
He kept his eyes open this time. He feared if he shut them again, the images would come back. He felt haunted.

Elina Paints the “Mirage” of Post-Break-Up Blues
Tumblr media
It is always so gratifying to come across an artist whose work becomes our secret refuge. We become subconsciously selfish, wanting to keep their magic all to ourselves. Swedish-native Elina is the poetic embodiment of these qualities, and her new single, “Mirage,” will become your best-kept secret, but not for long.
Elina has built a career primarily on songwriting, penning songs for artists such as Zara Larsson, Astrid S, Maroon 5 and SZA, to name a few. With multiple Swedish nominations under her belt, including the Ivor Novello Award, Denniz Pop Awards and a win for “Song of the Year” in 2017 at the Swedish Publishing Awards, Elina has established herself not only as an eloquent songwriter but also as a progressive voice of the future.
“Mirage” is the fourth single from the songstress and shows ELINA in her most vulnerable state. Melodious and well-written, the song is raw and honest, showing her vocal versatility and skillful lyrics. In an Instagram post, she wrote,
“Love and happiness is definitely not always easy as we all know. With that said, I truly believe that one of the most powerful ways of helping each other through times of self-doubt and hardships is to TALK, and share the stuff in life that we’re not so proud of even if it’s scary not knowing what others may think of us. This ‘Mirage’ song is about being at your most fragile state. I think it’s important to let these feelings into the spotlight sometime.”
The song finds ELINA crooning for an old flame, describing the nostalgia that comes post-breakup. Reminiscing on the relationship, she sings “I would shed my blood to unfuck this up/ to move out of the shadows/ but I just stay put,” and “You see I’m a bit unstable/ twenty drinks a night to/ hide that I can’t stand not having you.” The lyrics dive deep, painting the story of a helpless attempt to win back a lover who has already found someone else. ELINA excels at telling this story and takes us along for a journey that breaks our hearts in the process.
With a debut EP planned for the Spring, ELINA has only just scratched the surface of her artistic ability. Check out “Mirage” below:

Editors - EBM
On their seventh album the band take us on a journey though industrial-led rock. Yes seriously...
I’ve always admired bands who don’t stand still, who change their style as their musical ears and tastes evolve. Some artists can get away with treading the same path and good for them if that’s their bag, but for me I’ll always admire those that switch it up and go for something different.
Editors have never been afraid to make that change from album to album. Whilst their first two records (debut The Back Room and sophomore LP An End Has A Start) their third (In This Light And On This Evening) saw them lean on electro-pop and a complete switch. The changes may have lost them some listeners in the UK but across Europe they get it. And they will absolutely get EBM
A band who have never stood still creatively, EBM is a breathlessly heavy step up and Editors’ most leftfield material yet – a thrilling, unrelenting thrust of full-bodied electro-industrial rock. The album title is an acronym of Editors and Blanck Mass but also a knowing reference to Electronic Body Music, the potent sound that originated in the 1980s and which has hugely influenced Editors’ new material, where the synths of bands like Nitzer Ebb, Front 242 and DAF hammer darkly amongst smoke machines, strobe lights and the smell of leather.
Adding Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass as a full time member to the band is a genius move. If you know his work you’ll get why they asked the Ivor Novello Award-winning composer to join them, if you don’t then be prepared for some serious heart stomping, electro beats behind the wide range of lead singer Tom Smith’s vocals.
Unrelenting, hedonistic, wildly oscillating and at times feverish, EBM connects with both the physical and the emotional. Karma Climb begins with a brooding Joy Division intro that leaps into dancehall atmospherics. Kiss is just under eight minutes long and runs through a wide range of emotions and influences, it is like Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys are meeting up with New Order in an Uber. The highlight of the record for me, it is a stadium built anthem and is an incredible piece of work.
We still get the heartfelt version that we’ve become accustomed to on tracks like Silence (the guitar hasn’t been dropped completely thanks to this song) and Strawberry Lemonade which discusses turbulent times  “Can you feel the broken nation?” sings Tom over another 80′d led, The Cure like hook.
EBM plays tribute to both industrial rock and electronic dance music, it also has hints at their previous work. It is a record that consumes you and takes you on a proper journey if you let it. Editors have moved on (whilst dragging 80′s industrial pop along for the ride) and you should move on with them.
EBM is released on 23/09 via Play It Again Sam

It is also very similar to strategy games, but the main difference is that in city builder games or management games your success is not physical survival, but more financial survival.
The main goal is to make money and reach your goals. Most city building simulators have a sandbox mode meaning you can build with an unlimited budget and don’t have to worry about balancing your finances.

The main goal of this village building game is to develop a sustaining settlement for your people to survive through the various conditions.
It sounds easy enough right, but the thing is people will die if they are not fed or warm enough in the Winter.
You should order them to build, gather, farm and mine to keep your people alive. Banished has all the seasons where you will face challenges during each. For example, in Spring and Summer you need to grow food and gather wood to build houses and have enough firewood.
During Autumn and Winter, people will die if they are not warmed from fire and starve if they run out of food. The game has a few complex systems to understand and overcome before you can really build a large town, but it’s worth every minute.

Did you ever have the Dark Days™ in your earlier life? By that I mean Days Before We Understood How Much We Love Food and also Days Before We Were Literal Disasters In The Kitchen. Well, I doubt they were real for you, but they were 100% real for me.
One of things that pulled me into the food light was watching Michael Smith’s Chef at Home, the premise of which was overcoming recipe intimidation and that anyone can cook. It was Ratatouille in a way with its culinary approach, minus the rodents and health violations.
Watching Chef at Home helped me get over my intimidation in the kitchen, gave me confidence to try recipes, and started me on this journey of exploring how much I love food. I never thought I would accept this as my food origin love story, but we all start somewhere, right?
I met Michael Smith once before, shortly after I started watching Chef at Home. I attended his cooking demo at The Ex one summer, and after saying hi to him after, Michael Smith offered to send some recipes. Of course I didn’t think he’d actually email me until a week or so later (in my HOTMAIL INBOX), there was his email with several docs of his recipes attached. Recipes directly from the inbox of my favourite chef! 20-year-old me was over the moon.
This brings us to the present and I swear I’m back in j-school with you as I type this because I can hear Ivor Shapiro tsk-tsking me for burying the damn lede.
Jesse took me to Prince Edward Island for my birthday, and I immediately requested that we eat at FireWorks, Michael Smith’s country inn restaurant in the town of Souris, about an hour east of Charlottetown.
He booked a reservation and discovered the night before that Michael Smith would be in the kitchen. As it turned out, it was also opening night of the season!
We arrived at the Inn at Bay Fortune, which Michael owns with his wife, and members of the Fire Brigade (the cutesy name for their culinary team) were stoking the flames by their outdoor pit. The irresistible warmth and swirling smokiness from the wood-burning fire made us feel immediately at home.
The hostess greeted us warmly, asking if we were there for the Feast (YES, I replied, in my all-caps voice) and handed us a map of food stations on the inn grounds.
A FOOD MAP.
“There are freshly shucked oysters inside, and sausage in the herb garden.”
SAUSAGE IN THE HERB GARDEN.
After gorging on delectable tacos cooked over the fire pit, we headed inside for the oysters, which were served with a dollop of Bloody Mary ice. And there was Michael Smith standing next to the shuckers.
Jesse found an opportunity to embarrass me so he extended his hand toward the chef, at which point he decided to tell him “Emily talks about you all the time” (I do not) and we ended up taking a photo in the very spot where he filmed The Inn Chef. He’s every bit as friendly and gracious as he was 14 years ago.
We did, of course, make our way toward the Sausage in the Herb Garden (which I hope is a contender for the name of the imaginary cookbook you and I will write) and we dipped pieces of juicy sausage into a grainy Dijon, then dipped again into some freshly chopped sorrel and watercress and it was divine.
The diners soon gathered by the kitchen for the Feast, but first there was a toast to the opening of the 2017 season. We learned that everything we were about to eat came directly from the grounds of the inn: from the oysters plucked directly from Bay Fortune, to the pork from the Happy Pigs on the farm, the lettuce leaves from the pa– and suddenly I caught a movement at the corner of my eye.
“Is… that a fox? And it’s– oh my god there’s fresh kill in its mouth.”
And I stared like the city girl I am, at this brown fox trotting briskly across the expansive front lawn, ready for its own Feast at the Inn at Bay Fortune.
It may seem strange to say that there wasn’t anything specific about the meal that really blew my tastebuds away. Let me explain! Of course it was all wonderful and of course there was seafood chowder and fresh lobster and the largest hunk of beef short rib ever placed in front of me. (One of the servers later admitted that the portion was bigger than they typically serve.) But overall, it was legitimately one of the best food experiences of my life.
Simple, honest food made with love and the highest respect for ingredients I’ve ever seen. Being surrounded by people whose passion and care for preparing you a fine meal is the best food infusion you could ask for.
Let’s just say an extra Happy Pig left FireWorks that night. Best birthday meal ever.

My Writing Routine and Other News :
by Ivor Tostig I live in a private world all my own. My home is a retreat from the world. I have a distinct dislike for superficiality and I mistrust loud people who lack sensitivity. I try to show elegance and grace in all that I do, and I am a great admirer of beauty, particularly in people and paintings and nature and I give all I do a special touch. I have a strong soulful side and have empathy for all forms of suffering. I see a distinct difference between being lonely (which I rarely am) and being alone. I enjoy peak experiences. I ask to be accepted as I am and have few truly good friends, whom I am extremely close and loyal to. I’m original and a good leader, coming up with new ideas and executing them is natural to me. I work very hard and put boundless energy into my family, work (with my partner Julia) friends and projects. I am an expert coach working with people from all around the world and of all ages and backgrounds, in the fields of communications, performance and problem-solving, perhaps using NLP or other techniques, with honesty and sensitivity as desired. I have two beautiful daughters. I love painting, music and writing, which I do sporadically and when inspiration – which I take from life, the world, history and from other stories too – hits.

About the Book : The Odmedods: Llin and the Pit of Vipers: Volume 1 (Jeason and the Book of Hope or Doom) By Ivor Tostig
This book is available for FREE from LuLu.com
or Buy from Amazon UK
Blurb:
This is a tale for all times, an epic adventure which takes us into the very soul of our experience of growing. The simple village of a mountain land is torn from its roots, and a brother and sister, twins, are separated as a dreadful catastrophe approaches and obliterates the world that is so familiar to them.
Dark forces are rising and all that’s good in their simple world is swept away, and only books and stories reconnect the twins, their family and other folk, to a confused past that is shrouded in mystery and only partially understood, because that world, its technologies and loose organisation, have been barely salvaged over the generations. How thin is the dividing line between what is real and what is hidden, and how can they tell? Llin is trying to make sense of where she is; Jeason is searching for her; how can they possibly meet again, in the face of overwhelming odds and scenes of terrible chaos?
The story of Llin is about duality; illusion and dawning reality; about labyrinthine ways through the world, its journeys, mysteries and discoveries where a dystopian world view has taken over, how can they retrace their identities and know what they have lost?

Do you like the view? Picture was taken while I was on a walk around Erddig which is a National trust property just outside of Wrexham, about an hour from where I live. Typically, as is normal for me, I have never been before, but this week I managed to make use of the last bits of good weather, courtesy of Mandie and her other half, Ivor, and finally paid a visit. Wonderful woodland and riverside walk, which Mandie’s dog Holly, now renamed Blog-Dog, thoroughly enjoyed, and it was lovely to look around the house too (although less lovely to hear of all the exhibits which have been stolen in recent weeks.)
Little Rory is settling in nicely and she and Luna have found they do actually like each other after all. This is good for them, less good for me when they both decide to have a mad half hour chasing up and downstairs, but rather that than the alternative. Do love my little loony kitties.
Are they not just too cute for words?
No book post this week. In fact, no real post at all. This means no unexpected bills so I’m not complaining. Picked up a few books out and about though so I’ve not gone empty handed. Netgalley saw me pick up two new ARCs – In A House of Lies by Ian Rankin and Down To The Woods by MJ Arlidge.
A few new Amazon purchases too because I am unable to stop myself. Our Little Lies by Sue Watson; Last Night by Helen Phifer; False Witness by Michelle Davies; You Let Me In by Lucy Clarke; Into The Darkness by Sibel Hodge; and A Book Of Bones by John Connolly.
Books I have read
Loner – Hildur Sif Thorarensen
Which is worse, trying to catch a cunning killer leaving decapitated women in the woods, or trying to tame an unconventional forensic psychiatrist that seems determined to go his own way?
The Oslo autumn is creeping in with its cold spells and Homicide Detective Julia Ryland is feeling pretty content with her team of three, but when the FBI behavioral analyst, Alexander Smith, is thrust upon her, the crisp autumn air doesn’t feel as refreshing anymore. A young Icelander is found dead, an arrow piercing his heart and the extensive list of his former lovers suggests that many long nights are ahead. The murdered lothario suddenly becomes the least of their problems as headless corpses start appearing in the woods, positioned in terrifying ways and on their bodies they find messages that don’t seem to have any meaning at all.
Book one in the series, it took me a little time to get used to the narrative styling in this one. An intriguing story but perhaps needed a little clearer translation as some of the phrasing didn’t work so well in English. Two good characters to lead the book though so I’ll be interested to see where the author takes this. You can read my review here and buy the book here.
Down to the Woods – MJ Arlidge
There is a sickness in the forest. First, it was the wild horses. Now it’s innocent men and women, hunted down and murdered by a faceless figure. Lost in the darkness, they try to flee, they try to hide. In desperation, they call out for help. But there is no-one to hear their cries here…
DI Helen Grace must face down a new nightmare. The arrow-ridden victims hang from the New Forest’s ancient oaks, like pieces of strange fruit. Why are helpless holidaymakers being targeted in peak camping season? And what do their murders signify? Is a psychopath stalking the forest? Is there an occult element to the killings? Could the murders even be an offering to the Forest itself? Helen must walk into the darkness to discover the truth behind her most challenging, most macabre case yet.
I love this series and Helen Grace has to be one of my favourite characters. The pacing in this book did seem a touch slower to me, perhaps given the break neck speed of the last book in which all the action took place over a single day, but given the nature of the story, I’d have expected a little more pace. That said, I still loved it and there is an interesting new character who looks set to spice up, or perhaps cool down, Helen’s life a bit. You can order a copy of the book here and my review is imminent.
False Witness – Michelle Davies
7.15am: Two children are seen on top of a wall in a school.  Shortly later one of them lies fatally injured at the bottom.  Did the boy fall or was he pushed? As a family liaison offer, DC Maggie Neville has seen parents crumble under the weight of their child’s death. Imogen Tyler is no different. Her son’s fall was witnessed by the school caretaker, a pupil is under suspicion, and Imogen is paralysed by grief and questions.
For Maggie, finding the truth is paramount if she is to help the mother. But as she investigates, further doubts emerge and the truth suddenly seems far from certain. Could the witness be mistaken about what happened, and if he is, then who is responsible? And how far will they go to cover up the boy’s death?
False Witness by Michelle Davies is the gripping third novel in the critically acclaimed Maggie Neville series, following Gone Astray and Wrong Place.
This is the first book I have read by this author but it’s the third in the series. Reads perfectly well as a standalone though and I did enjoy my time in the company of Maggie Neville and co. A traumatic case which turns from a potential accidental death into something far more sinister. You’ll be able to read my review later this week as part of the tour and you can order a copy of the book here.
That was it for me this week. I am part way through another book which I’ll likely tell you all about next week. My time has been mostly spent going to interviews, learning how to use a slow-cooker (don’t ask) and making low fat, low sugar trifles using an array of alternative ingredients. Oh and trying not to trip over a kitten. Slower week on the blog too with only three posts. Recap below:
In The Silence by M.R. Mackenzie
The Night She Died by Jenny Blackhurst
Loner by Hildur Sif Thorarensen
A little bit more on this week with a few more tours on the go. First up it’s Mandie’s turn to tell us all about The Tattoo Thief by Alison Belsham; I am on the tours for Michelle Davies’ False Witness; The Lion Tamer Who Lost by Louise Beech; The Proposal by SE Lynes. Mandie rounds off the week with a review of The After Wife by Cass Hunter. Hope you can join us.
More interviews this week which I guess is a good thing. Plus I’m going on a little journey at the weekend which I am very excited about but more on that in next weeks post. Hoping to cram in a few books this week, just for a change but either way I’ll be back next Monday.
Have a fabulous week everyone.
Jen

The Custom House Square slowly filled from 6pm when the gates opened and people of all sizes, ages, hues, styles and outlooks milled lazily in for one hell of a gig. Drink was drunk and food was eaten in the slow sunny evening in the middle of Belfast.
This was a sold out concert and no wonder. None other than Kasabian were playing tonight and in support were the fantastic Aussies, DMA’s.
And on they came. Technically, they are a three piece band but whilst on tour there are six of them. And that just added to the spectacle they provided the Belfast crowd. With a laid back sauntering attitude and sound they were up there with The Las, Blur, Inspiral Carpets, The Happy Mondays, and the Charlatans. These guys were from Sydney, but the sound and look was pure British indie/brit pop from Manchester. There was quite a faithful crowd of fans that swayed, jumped and sang along to such well delivered songs like “Do I need You Now?”, “Dawning”, “Time and Money” just exemplified this tight group as proponents of pure indie brit pop music that just transports you back to the 90s.
The crowd were transfixed by DMA’s and so they should be. This band have an infectious easy laid back groove that just keeps you listening and looking for more after each song ended. What a great start to the evening and they should have plenty more new fans after their stirling performance.
Then came the crowning glory of the evening. Kasabian. And they weren’t going to start slowly. They came strutting onto stage to a loud and uplifting roar from the now very packed Custom House Square and immediately set the tone of the evening with “Clubfoot”. And in answer the crowd raised their hands and hollered as loud as they could every oh, ah, and la that they could. The band were visibly enjoying themselves from the get go and band and crowd of ardent fans fed off each other throughout the gig. Then came “Ill Ray” “Underdog “ and “Shoot The Runner”. Absolute classics that had the place heaving with bodies just letting go as if having a religious experience. Then came the trumpet and the initial rendition of the heckle raising “Ecstasy Of Gold” to lead into “Days Are Forgotten”
The interaction between Thomas and Sergio and the mass of bodies in front of them was perfectly balanced and on point. Thomas, as an absolute doppelganger for John Simm, you half expected to start drumming THAT beat, but instead did something much closer to home and launched the jam-packed place into chanting “Easy” and so came “Eez-eh”. On they went with “You’re In Love With A Psycho”, and “Wasted” By this time the rain had started pouring down but instead of dampening the enthusiasm of everyone there, it only seemed to encourage the high voltage hand raising and singing.
At this point Sergio was hungry enough to scrounge a packet of crisps from one of the Square’s residents as they stood on their balcony taking in the incredible gig. He dedicated the next song to the kind gentleman and Kasabian delivered the fantastic “Treat”. Sergio was over the moon to find it was a packet of Pickled Onion Space Invaders. Somehow, it just seemed the perfect packet of crisps to give Kasabian.
On into “Empire”, the mindbendingly catchy “Bless This Acid House”, “ Stevie” and then “Stuntman”. Each and every song was offered up to the audience with energetic verve and the crowd lapped it all up, hungry for more. By this time the rain had been going non-stop and yet no one cared as everyone was having such a great time.
The last song of the set was L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever) and the crowd was going mental as they heaved and bounced backward and forward.
But that was not all. Kasabian came back on and landed the final body blows of the evening to a pretty hoarse crowd now by upping the ante with “Comeback Kid”, “Vlad the Impaler” and finishing the entire evening with “Fire”.
Overall, DMA’s produced a great set that had quite a few attendees singing along and they were the perfect antidote to a Monday. Kasabian packed it, nailed it, stamped it and knocked it right out of the Square with their happy, animated, mesmeric and infectious energic set. They were on point in every way and even after they had left the stage for the final time and the gates opened to let everyone go home there continued to be sporadic mass crowd singing of “Fire”. It was a truly spiritual journey of a performance that Kasabian led every attendee on and everyone left jubilant and on top form.
