Let slaves in mind be servile to their fears;
Our heart is high instarred in brighter spheres.
Fernando, IV.ii of Love's Sacrifice (1633) by John Ford
#i almost didn't read this play#john ford#poetry#caroline drama#english literature#there are 5 ford plays in this collection i borrowed from the library#and it's a loan from another library in the state which means it can't be renewed#i had read tis pity in a book i donated to savers and then decided i wanted to read perkin warbeck by ford#and maybe some others since tis pity was just so good#the broken heart was intriguing from a quote by charles lamb in the intro#and the lover's melancholy interested me since it was a tragicomedy#so those three plays (broken heart/warbeck/melancholy) i knew i had to read#and i had half a mind like yeah if i don't have much time before the due date i might return it wo reading sacrifice#(and i also read a few other things in between ford plays to just get a breather)#love's sacrifice might be his second best after tis pity#the broken heart was really good too. warbeck was a little strange but not bad. melancholy was... i had notes#but i still really enjoyed all 3#lover's melancholy and perkin warbeck suffer in comparison with the expectations i had from shakespeare's tragicomedies and history plays#they're still very worthwhile but ford is at his best in the tragic form#i really like how he writes female characters. he also has a flair for macabre set pieces and spectacle#i would love to direct any of these plays someday#i think all the time about how id direct like a bbc television shakespeare series but for other lesserknown playwrights#i would give so much to be able to bring ford's work to a general audience today#he has so much to say and is so entertaining

rdr2 as teachers
Dutch van der Linde: teaches social studies and sometimes history, goes on weird rants about his ideologies, he grades on a whim, students have a love hate relationship with him, is the principal but he really shouldn't be
Hosea Matthews: chill geography teacher that used to also teach physics, is generally good but his homeworks are usually hard to understand, you will get a good grade if you show effort and talk to him, leads an afternoon drama club and was a principal for several years
Arthur Morgan: teaches english literature but also pe and also sometimes physics? He also taught math for a year when times were rough. Everyone knows him and he knows everyone, thinks he's not a good teacher but students act good and get good grades with him (they're intimidated), sometimes hangs around in afternoon art clubs
John Marston: math teacher on an art school (yes this specific), none of his students will ever study math so why should he try, let's everyone pass as long as they're not acting up, usually late to class but no one cares
Javier Esquella: music teacher and an extra for spanish classes, his students only sing in his class, no work unless you make him mad, is known for talking shit about other teachers in spanish
Bill Williamson: PE teacher who yells at his students too damn much BUT is actually ok to meet outside of school, will get drunk with his (of age) students on field trips
Micah Bell: the teacher that got kicked out for students complaining, still shows up on some school actions because Dutch always asks him to help with making sure they act right
Charles Smith: really smart chemistry and biology teacher, actually explains it well, strict but students love him type, leadss the longest routes on field trips with Arthur, they usually make them even longer
Sean Macquire: Teacher assistant, no one knows what exactly he studied, just hangs around, will trashtalk teachers without asking, tells students the curent drama happening between staff
Lenny Summers: Teacher assistant finishing up his studies to become history teacher, popular with the students, has lots of energy, sometimes takes over classes when teachers are sick or tired
Sadie Adler: PE teacher who goes hard but also will force you to not participate after you get hurt ("I DO NOT CARE YOU JUST GOT HIT AND YOU BARELY STOPPED THAT NOSEBLEED SIT DOWN."), no one knew that she had a husband until he one day randomly picked her up from school, once got drunk on a prom and finally told her students about her life
Karen Jones: Chemistry teacher who breaks all lab rules, mainly shows them the fun stuff, the rumor is that she knows how to make alcohol very easily, also leads the afternoon drama club with Hosea
Tilly Jackson: Works in the office, helps students with paperwork or with anything they need to, is one of the reasons the school is still running because she fixes Dutchs paperwork mistakes
Mary-Beth Gaskill: english-literature and english language teacher, is the one to help rewrite the plays for the drama clubs, overall helps them a lot, has an after school reading club, they read mainly female and lesserknown authors
Uncle: janitor, doesn't do shit, just hangs around the school, will yell at you for walking inside in outside shoes, no one takes him seriously, some students have a habit to say "I didn't do my homework, I have lumbago!" because of him, mainly in Johns class
Abigail Roberts: Also works in the office, taught math for a year (that's how she got to know John), refuses to fix Dutchs mistakes, small Jack hangs around in the school sometimes, students like him and play with him
Susan Grimshaw: The main lady in the office and also the vice-principal, students thought she and Dutch were maried LMAOO, she shot down those rumors real fast, students either love her or hate her
Pearson: school cook who also has an afternoon cooking class, sometimes forces his students to answer yes chef, smells weird and tells weird stories
Leopold Strauss: German teacher who also takes care of the school money and makes lectures once a year about finance world, the students don't like him but some respect him in a sense that he knows how money works and teaches them real stuff
Josiah Trelawny: randomly shows up and gives lectures about whatever, no one knows if he actually works here or not, does he even have a title? does he have any idea how to teach? The students find him hilarious, also ALWAYS shows up for students proms and somehow knows who your parents and siblings are
Orville Swanson: Teaches social studies with focus on religion, nearly got kicked out several times for going to school drunk, did cry once in class
Kieran Duffy: Biology teacher, half of the students ignore him, the other half pity him, hangs around the book club because of Mary-Beth, the students ship it, once ranted for an entire class about horses
Molly O'Shea: Dutch hired her just because she's pretty, she teaches music and art mainly, eventhough she studied literature, but Susan refuses to give her other classes (she was mad at Dutch for bringing her to school), she is the teacher students have a crush on

Before there were E-girls we had Chans! Chans were usually just quirky girls who sat in front of their laptops and acted weird on 4Chan in their homes and got a cult like following because of their niche interests or eccentric looks (for that time atleast) They were usually given the chan suffix due to 4Chan being filled with weebs and horny dorks and because the Japanese suffix is used as a term of endearment, most frequently used for girls but not limited to them. The name would be based on what you were known for on the image board (creepy, loli, black) (I'm not joking about loli and black btw...)
Chan interests were but not limited to
-Anime/Japanese culture
-Something taboo (drugs, alcohol, blood, etc)
-Drawing
-Memes/internet culture
-Video games
-Thick and often bad eyeliner
-General cuteness
4Chan took interests in these girls because...well 4Chan.
Some well known chans have gone on to make decent careers for themselves while others faded away to obscurity.
Below are notable mentions:
Boxxy (BoxxyBabee, Queen of b or Catherine "Cathy" Wayne)
Tumblr media
While not having the Chan suffix anywhere in her name she definitely belongs on the list, some could argue she was above even being considered a chan (I'm some). Best known for her online character "Boxxy" in her highly energetic vlogs which showcased her bubbly personality and iconic scene girl eyeliner we all came to love but to my surprise alot of people are unaware she actually caused an entire war on 4Chan.
Boxxy spam and flame wars had filled the image board to the point where 4chan users launched a denial of service (DDoS) attack on themselves causing the site to shut down for 7 hours. Channers took to Twitter to launch a Twitter bomb. Things got so bad to the point they doxxed her, left gifts on her doorstep and hacked her YouTube channel. In my honest opinion she was the first victim of cancel culture but I digress. Boxxy is honestly my personal fave since I was around to whitness her in real time and because her high pitched voiced pleased my underdeveloped child brain.
Boxxy has went on to attend comicons and do voice acting (you definitely heard her in some videos, don't worry)
Creepy-Chan (Tussin Chan, Cute Chan, Allicat, Queen of /X/)
Tumblr media
My second favorite Chan since I was also around to witnesses her in the prime of her popularity (we get it I've been chronically online since a child)
Creepy chan being the given pseudonym of fashion model Allison Harvard, whose photos were shared on 4chan as early as 2005 due to her eccentric and at time unsettling looks, (Ex: large eyes, heavy makeup, slim body, pouty lips, lanky hands) and peculiar interests like fascination with blood, she earned several nicknames on the site. In 2009, she gained mainstream notoriety after appearing as a contestant on the reality television show America's Next Top Model and spoiler alert: she came in 2nd place.
Creepy-Chan has continued her modeling career. (You go Allison!)
Cracky-Chan (Sky Queen, ScareCrowMaiden, Goddess of 4Chan)
Tumblr media
Now this one... Is a relic, despite being the first chan/camgirl on the site's board /b she seems to be lesserknown compared to Boxxy and Creepy-Chan but she is a huge part of 4Chan lore because she defined what /b/ thinks today of camgirls. It was Cracky who first coined the phrase "'sup 4chan" which is now widely used on imageboards and forums. (Or was...) "Cracky-chan" was given to her because she looked as if she had "Snorted crack" due to her messy applied red makeup, heavy eyeliner and distorted mischievous smile. In 2005 photos of her wearing the classic Japanese schoolgirl uniform with black animal ears and badly applied make-up appeared on the random board. The first ever Cracky image to be posted. It showed her in her iconic sailor outfit with the phrase “’Sup 4chan” written on her palm. The images were quickly pronounced cute and sweet by Anonymous and she was given the name Cracky-chan. Now like with most girls on the site the basement dwellers on 4Chan obsession with Cracky-chan had developed such a grip on /b/ that 4chan's then-Admin W.T.Snacks put a wordfilter over cracky [which has since been lifted] in an effort to discourage cracky discussion. (When you posted the word "cracky" it was automatically changed to a random word ending in -cky such as Jacky, Packy, etc)
During this time the teenage "Cracky-chan" laid low and kept out of the spotlight due to the unexpected attention and internet fame which caused her fanboys to mourn the lost of their queen...so they leaked her Livejournal full of drawings, portraits and selfies.
(Some of the photos had nudity, menstrual blood on the face and her in gothic lolita fashions)
What drove /b/'s enduring obsession with Cracky-chan was the collection of self-portraits that Cracky had made being artistic and usually having unusual themes (blood, guro, lolita, other typical chan themes) She was so loved that fansites were created of her in which she would come out of hiding to ask them to be shut down due to unwanted attention.
Despite being the backbone of Chan culture, She has faded into obscurity which is said to be a result from her father contacting the then admin of 4Chan to remove all traces of her daughter since she was being stalked, harassed and her job has been contacted. In 2022 I did find a person on Twitter claiming to be her but the post hadn't gotten alot of attention, their faces did match up but it was hard to tell since the adult woman was bigger in size compared to a smaller teenage girl, the Twitter account is now gone.

In this video, we'll be exploring some of the most intriguing and lesser-known gunslingers throughout history, categorized into different groups. Unsung Heroes: Bass Reeves, an African-American hero and former slave, served as a U.S. Marshal in the 19th century, capturing over 3,000 criminals with his legendary gunfighting skills. John "Bull" Runyon, a lawman in the Wild West, was celebrated for his rapid draw in the late 1800s, once shooting and killing his opponent in a duel before they could even draw their gun. Tom Horn, a cowboy and cattle baron, was feared for his speed and accuracy with a gun, being linked to several murders in Arizona in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Showmen Gunslingers: "Fast Eddie" Foy, a vaudeville performer in the 19th century, became renowned for his trick shooting exhibitions, accomplishing shooting 10 targets in 10 seconds using two guns in one hand.
