In 1967 Gore appeared in two episodes of Batman 66 as Pussycat, a member of Catwoman’s gang.

Gore identifies as a lesbian and said in an interview that she never hid her sexual orientation but was careful not to "put it in anybody's face."
"Times were very different then, so, you know, I just tried to live as normally as humanly possible. But as truthfully as humanly possible… There were was very little acceptance of gay people. I think the record industry, by and large what's left of it, is still totally homophobic."

In 1982, Gore began a 33 year relationship with Lois Sasson, a jewelry designer. Gore came out to the public in 2004 while hosting episodes of the PBS series In the Life, which focused on LGBT issues.
Gore died in 2015 due to lung cancer.

Queer Jews Project Day 24 - Lesley Gore
Tumblr media
“It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to.” So goes Lesley Gore’s first hit – which made her a music star while she was still in high school. And she didn’t stop her education for her music career either. She went to Sarah Lawrence College at the height of her career, playing shows on weekends and school breaks. In later decades, she pivoted to songwriting, writing “Out Here On My Own” for the movie “Fame” and scoring an Oscar nomination. While life wasn’t all “Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows” – Lesley said the record industry was homophobic – she lived as open a life as she could. “I just kind of lived my life naturally and did what I wanted to do. I didn’t avoid anything, I didn’t put it in anybody’s face,” she said.

Lesley Gore (1946-2015) solo Songs: "Look of Love," "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" Defeated Opponents: Della Reese, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Sinatra Propaganda: "Just listening to her progression of hit songs is a journey in itself: bubble gum pop's "It's my Party" and "that's the way boys are" to empowerment ballad "You don't own me" !!!! and for those who care, she came out in publicly/officially in 2005" "lesbian queen, ruler of teen angst. melanie martinez wouldnt fucking be here without her. She ruled young closeted me with an iron fist. She held #2 behind the beatles for 3 weeks when she should've been #1. She played her own batman character named pussycat who was catwomans sidekick." "Her songs are still famous, her voice is beautiful, and she's a lesbian icon. What else is there to say?"
