Nancy Wheeler headcannons cause I love her and there needs to be more
- Taught Mike how to play DnD and in turn taught the rest of the party as well
- Read every Nancy Drew book that she could get her hands on and still has the entire collection
- Went as Nancy Drew a couple of times for Halloween
- Went through that "I hate pink" phase and came out of it covered head to toe in hot pink everything
- Autistic + ADHD, that girl can not stand still she has to be doing something at all times
- Really wanted to be a ballerina when she was younger but felt to embarrassed to ask for lessons
- I personally see her as either bisexual or lesbian with comhet
- Was best friends with Jonathan when they were younger because of Mike and Will. They would babysit them together when their moms were too busy but over time when they didn't need a babysitter they stopped hanging out
- Would start murder mysteries (books, movies, TV shows, etc) and stop them before the murderer is revealed to see of she could figure it out first and is generally pissed if she doesn't
- Once when she was 11, tried to bleach her hair after seeing her mom do it. It went bad. Really bad.
- Took french in school to feel cool but hated it with a passion. Later asked Robin to teach her but still can't speak it cause she was too busy thinking how hot Robin sounded speaking it to pay attention
- Would steal R rated movies from her parents and sneak downstairs to watch them. One time stole Rocky Horror Picture Show from a cousin, had her first gay panic watching Susan Sarandon singing in her bra
- ELA and History smart
- Tried smoking once and wasn't a fan cause of the taste, but later after hanging out with Eddie got more into weed
- Transfem?????
- If we're going with bi Nancy, I truly do think she would have had a crush on Jonathan when they were hanging out as middle schoolers but pretended she didn't

Nancy gets a whole speech delivered to her about how her attempt to escape her mother's fate by dating Steve is pointless because she's ultimately forcing herself to love a boy who she's not interested in. She's "rebelling" in a way that many other girls do or, to put it simply, in a way that society is comfortable with. But truly rebelling would be embracing her feelings regardless of what other people think...yet her being sapphic doesn't make sense? (more detailed post)

Would you like to explain your lesbian!Nancy vision?
Of course!
To me, Nancy reeks of comphet. Her parents' marriage has given her issues, which we see, and she rejects the idea of being a housewife and perfect picket fence mother for some man.
I think she loved both Steve and Jonathan in her own way, but she didn't realise she didn't love them romantically. She cares about them a lot and she assumes that's just how relationships are. She likes spending time with them, so she must be attracted to them, right?
With Steve, it's easy to rationalise it as the grief tearing them apart in Nancy's head. With Jonathan, they start having issues communicating when Jonathan moves, and they struggle when she faces sexism at work, and I think him not getting it worms its way into her head but she can't fully explain why that is.
Then she's flung into being around Robin all the time and something is... different. She chalks it up to not having a female friend in a while, but it's different to how it was with Barb, too. For the first time, she's getting butterflies, and everything feels so new.
I think she'd research it extensively and figure out that she's a lesbian and went through comphet. She'd also realise she'd been half in love with Barb before her death, and that's a whole other reckoning to have.
(I also think that Nancy wouldn't be opposed to marriage and/or kids if she gets to have it with another woman.)
All in all, I'm a lesbian and I relate a lot to Nancy. I love any iteration of sapphic Nancy but lesbian Nancy hits closer to home for me <3

Possibly unpopular opinion: Nancy Wheeler is a lesbian and Steve Harrington is gay, and they both have just been operating under the social pressure and assumption that they must be straight.
Nancy's comphet will be defeated one day, because there was undertones to her relationship with Barb I swear to god, and as soon as men start getting a bit too serious with her she understandably nopes out and gets spooked. Her behaviour to Robin and her apparent unawareness that she was coming off hostile and then afterwards warms up to Robin, it all just rings my former comphet bell...
Steve will eventually stop and realise he talks about the idea of dating girls and the image of a future that he's "supposed" to make more than actually wanting to date any of them, and sounds like he's just experiencing regular friendship when he thinks it's romantic feelings for Nancy and then Robin. (I did used to be team bi Steve all the way, but the way he acts and talks about it all, it feels just too much like social conditioning than actually liking women; he doesn't seem like he likes them, he just thinks he should.)
Also Jonathan Byers is absolutely bisexual, I said so. Him and Argyle? Okay.
The real queer quartet: Nancy, Jonathan, Steve and Robin.

im having thoughts about transfem stevie who kinda realized she liked feminine things while dating nancy. and so sometimes stevie would take interest in nancy's makeup, leading to nancy sometimes doing her makeup or hair. nancy, who had never been in a long-term relationship before this, kinda just assumed this was normal boyfriend and girlfriend things and goes along with it, because "steve probably did this with his previous girlfriends, right?" (She did not do things like that with them, Stevie was just sharing more of herself because she was in love with nancy)
And so when Nancy and Jonathan start dating, Nancy suggests playing with Jonathan's hair, because the makeup part didn't really seem like something Jonathan would enjoy when she thought about it but mussing with her boyfriend's hair seemed perfectly normal. Jonathan, also having never been in a relationship before, also presumes this to be normal, and frankly enjoys when it happens.
meanwhile Stevie's kinda fully coming to the realization around the scoops area of time that "holy fuck, i dont just like girly shit. I am a girl." Then she comes out to Robin after starcourt, who encourages her to lean more into it and helps her begin to transition. And that she should have guessed based on how Stevie told her "at least the girl's uniform is cuter. I'd rock that in a heartbeat." wholehearted and dead serious.
and later on she comes out to most of the group, and mentions having known for a long time that she was a girl. And nancy is like wait how long because it had only been 2 years now since they broke up. and Stevie kinda shrugs and was like "i mean, it was pretty obvious looking back, like with the whole hair and makeup thing that happened while we dated was definitely a sign" to which nancy and jonathan are like "wait the hair thing isn't normal?" and stevie's like "?????? what. no???"
And this is how Jonathan's egg cracks and Nancy realizes she's maybe actually a lesbian?

tw: internalized homophobia dedicated to @figthefruitfaeth bc zoey and i were talking abt comp het and femme4butch nancy and then this was born.
Something is wrong with Nancy.
This was her third failed date since her breakup with Jonathan.
She doesn’t know what it is, why this was her third failed date. Nancy doesn’t do failed dates, much less three of them within the span of a few weeks. She’s not gonna call him—James or Jasper or whatever his name was—the date was awkward and suffocating and Nancy really just wanted to leave, but, manners and all that. To make things worse, Nancy just, couldn’t find him attractive. It felt like a pity date on his part, mostly. And to make things worse, they had absolutely nothing in common. He kept talking about what he expects from a woman; a stay at home wife and kids and everything that Nancy detested. Everything she actively wanted to avoid.
At least her and Jonathan had shared trauma, and a genuine connection—even if it was as just friends.
That’s why they’d broken up, actually. It wasn’t that she didn’t love him, she did! She loved him more than she ever thought about loving Steve, but it wasn’t in the way that she knew he ought to be loved; he deserved better than that. She couldn’t love him more than that. There was something wrong with her.
She just doesn’t know what.
Nancy sighs, rubbing her face and staring back at the ceiling. The ceiling stares back, and Nancy knows, despite the downpour outside, that she will not be sleeping tonight. At least, not for a little while, anyway.
She tosses to one side, arm curled under the pillow, now staring at her bubblegum pink walls, and recalls the events of all three failed dates, trying to see where they all went wrong. And all three come back the same; Nancy just... didn’t like them.
If she’s honest, she would’ve rather spent time with Robin at Family Video, unofficially stocking tapes and goofing off, making a ranking list of best to worst Molly Ringwald movies. Or listening to Robin ramble about whatever book she’s reading, or about her nerves for college.
Now that she thinks about it, she doesn’t even know why she went on those dates in the first place.
That’s a lie. She does know why. She needed a distraction. A distraction from a certain dirty blonde who works at the video store.
Nancy doesn’t know why she can’t stop thinking about Robin. She should be thinking about Jeremiah or Jacob or whoever the hell she saw tonight, but, no matter what, she keeps going back to Robin.
Her and Robin’s friendship had come easy after spring break. Both of them too afraid to be alone for too long, and Nancy specifically, wanted to make sure nothing bad would happen to Robin. She almost lost her in the Upside Down and she was not going to lose another person to that godforsaken place.
And maybe that’s why Nancy can’t stop thinking about Robin, because she reminded Nancy so much of Barbara. Down to Robin’s nerdy little interests, so close to Barb’s own nerdy interests—stuff that Barb was always so passionate about that Nancy always wanted to listen to her. Couldn’t help but listen to her. Nancy was never sure what it was with Barb, why she always felt this magnetic air around her, an electricity that Nancy constantly tried to ignore when Barb would accidentally brush her pinkie walking side by side in the hallways. She always wanted to be around Barb, and she could never figure out why.
Why Nancy loved it when she made Barb laugh with her stupid jokes; why she thought seeing Barb smile—she could be a little serious, much more serious than Nancy, so making Barb smile was usually the highlight of Nancy’s day—was like winning the lottery. Why their sleepovers always ended with Nancy curled up into Barb’s side, trying to get warm, and an arm slung over her waist, pulling her closer.
Why her death destroyed Nancy. A mourning that sometimes, Nancy never thinks she'll get over. What happens when you don’t know where to put all of that grief? Where does it go?
Nancy huffs, turning to the other side, where bubblegum walls and Tom Cruise stare back at her, still wide awake.
It was nice to have another friend, too, one that she could call in the middle of the night and talk about anything—everything—and feel like she’s got a real friend again. A best friend, even. She’s not a replacement for Barb by any means--nobody could replace her, but it is nice to have someone to talk to again. Someone who shares her love for stupid little jokes and who never fails to make Nancy laugh, even when she doesn’t want to. Someone who Nancy feels drawn to; this warm, giddy feeling inside when Nancy hangs out with her.
Thinking about Robin now—her laugh, her eyes, her hands—the feeling returns, taking root and blossoming inside of her, warming her inside and out, making her face flush and her stomach flip. Nancy can’t help but smile softly into the darkness.
Isn’t that how she was supposed to feel about Jack? That fluttery nervous feeling?
Wasn’t that how she was supposed to feel about Steve? And Jonathan? And the other two guys she went on a date with?
What was wrong with her?
