#as a kpop stan alumni i can vouch and say these are all pretty accurate#id like to pitch that if they were in an actual kpop group#courfeyrac would be assigned the leader instead of enjolras#(because as you mentioned: enjolras HATES being assigned the One True Leader role)#and courfeyrac certainly has the people skills for it while also being serious enough to go on lockdown mode#another common role (?) that a member could have is the maknae which is basically just the korean word for youngest#which jehan certainly fits well in (he is the youngest...right? i cant remember)#and stereotypical traits of a maknae consist of shyness innocence etc.#which i think jehan suits as well (at least fanonically)#anyways. just wanted to say i love this list and its a very good and succint description of them all!#les mis#les amis de l'abc (tags via @syrupsyche )

Jehan isn't necessarily the youngest though! We actually don't have any canon info on his age at all (though if you want to take the references in his poem as a guide, he's probably closer to Bahorel and Combeferre age-wise than to Marius and Courfeyrac) . Courfeyrac is actually the youngest As Far As We Know-- 25 in 1832 would mean 21 in 1828, when Enjolras, the next-youngest, is 22! (here's a quick summary of the ages I've been able to figure for them!) IDK how that affects the maknae thing? but that's the info I've got to offer!XD

I know I basically haven't been keeping up with these this year--it's been kind of a slow writing year in general for me, which is part of it.

And normally at this time of year, I'm setting a number and picking a set of projects to work on for a fake/cheat NaNo but given the whole...AI-nonsense implosion that went on there...

Yeah, not happening.

But I do want to get back into more writing, because I miss it, even if it's been hard this year. So behind the cut is a bit of rambling about the following long-range projects I'm hoping to get more into as time goes on:

The Other Battlestar (BSG)

Papa and J----, August '34 (Les Mis)

Precipice

A handful of other miscellaneous AUs (mostly BSG)

My three main origfic projects (The Farglass Cycle/Feredar; Lux; Untitled Intrigues Story)

And also, as long as we're here, let's go ahead and do an Open Question Night! My askbox is always open, but I'll be keeping a semi-active eye on it and responding tonight. Anything I've written/posted about here or on AO3 is fair game. I do take prompts, but no promises on when I'll fill them, haha.

The Other Battlestar

So this is an AU that I technically started building the first time I was in the fandom, so like...twelveish years ago now? Haha.

The premise, essentially, is Baltar ends up on Pegasus instead of Galactica. Which means a lot of gaps to fill in, both in terms of getting the fleet into roughly the same position when everyone reconnects, and also, even with Razor filling in some gaps, there's a fair bit of 'how do I fill those six months' on the Pegasus side of things.

There are a few OCs involved in filling in those gaps--splitting Baltar's canon shenanigans across two people, one to do the Politics and one to do the Science. Politics is Vance Kimball; movie star/philanthropist, went to university with...I'm blanking on his name; Roslin's original VP pick; anyway the two of them were at an alumni event and got off Caprica together along with the Science person, who is admittedly the most self-indulgent part of this fic but I've decided to stop feeling guilty about my pleasures and honestly what is fandom for if not self-indulgence lol.

Also adding a few people on the Pegasus side of things--there's a Marine officer who grew up with Baltar on Aerilon; Daphne Reed who is the senior medical officer (Cottle's counterpart); and a Four with the civilian fleet who gets drafted to work under Reed.

I did also figure out how to keep Helo on Caprica so he can meet Athena, because they are important to me and see above about self-indulgence, and Fleet!Cavil and Vera (Tough!Six/Hooker!Six/Punk-rock!Six/whatever the cool kids are calling her these days) are probably going to show up once or twice.

So, yeah, the holdup here is...figuring out the best way to balance all the different threads, how much I actively need to rewrite vs. how much I can handwave, and so on. Even if I stop at the end of the Pegasus arc (which is my current plan; I have some vague ideas for where the second half of S2 and beginning of S3 might go but no Active plans at this point), I'm guessing this will end up being like. 150k? It will not be short, anyway. But it's been in my head for a long time and I'm very fond of it.

2. Papa and J----, August '34

So this (and its companion piece, Provenance) is something I was having a lot of fun with and just. Need to get back to, haha. It's outsider POV, an art history grad student named Ari doing some Research into a previously-undiscovered painting by Cosette (who is a moderately well-known painter). Obviously this is a post-canon AU where both Valjean and Javert survived the summer of 1832. I left off with Ari about to go to Europe to continue working there, going into museum collections and archives to try and a) identify J; and b) put a name to 'Papa,' now that we have his face. Anyway, I do plan to get back to this, just...again, slow year, haha.

3. Precipice

I will not quit this fic until/unless I entirely quit the Star Wars fandom which doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon (even if it's back-burnered a bit). So, yeah, even if it's been...::checks notes:: three years since I updated, I haven't forgotten this, it's too big a part of my SW fandom life for me to do that.

(For those who don't know, it's a 'the Republic falls but Anakin doesn't' AU, we've just reached about the timeframe of ANH where I left off)

4. Other Miscellaneous AUs

Just kind of rapid-firing--

The Selkie AU and Backup Plans AU I started with the Year of the OTP project back in 2023. They could go interesting places, and I want to explore them some more.

Acheron is another Les Mis fic, Groundhog Day loop for Javert, fun times.

Percussive Maintenance is the one where D'Anna accidentally unlocks Sam's memories what with all the concussing when they're trapped in the parking garage during Downloaded. It involves a lot of Sam talking to Philosopher!Cavil; I still need to decide whether or not I want to involve/reference the girls from Caprica-the-TV-series. I had a general outline going from Sam regaining his memories up through when they get back to the Fleet that I was hoping to do for GBB this year, but I didn't get enough into it to make it happen. Maybe I will moving forward.

Someday I'd like to get back to Serenissima (which was a Baroque/Renaissance Venice BSG AU)

I have some BSG crossovers floating around that I'd like to actively work on At Some Point (mostly Star Wars, though some of the self-indulgent Stargate crossover stuff I've done in RPs with a friend of mine is always percolating in the back of my head, lol; also the Wheel of Time stuff I started noodling with back when I watched S2 of that series is still interesting--maybe when S3 comes out or when I start my reread of that series)

Someday I'd like to get back to the Avatar Zuko fic or a couple other AtLA AUs I started working back when the fandom renaissance really picked up.

5. Original Works

The Farglass Cycle/Feredar is a fairly typical swords-and-sorcery type fantasy world; it's one of my oldest/longest-running projects and just sort of always a constant in the background of my writing universe.

Lux is the Apocalypse in SPACE. I think a lot of what I've written lately has focused more on the Horsemen than the original two main characters, lol (which would be Lux (Lucifer) and her human love interest Mariko). I still need to get around to fully explaining who Trixie Milton is, among other things.

Untitled Intrigues Story is technically a fantasy because it takes place on a made-up map. The pope/High Priest has sent his two sons as envoys to two rival kingdoms to try and prevent them from going to war, each of them ends up tangled up in the internal politics in different ways, and it's mostly about that. There's also some Politicking going on within the higher ranks of the church (this world is kind of modeled after late-Renaissance Europe soooo), which I find a lot of fun when it's. y'know. fictional.

...yeah, I think that about sums things up, haha. I'm not making any promises for when any of this is coming out, just...these are the sort of uppermost things in my mind for what I want to get more into working on in the next few weeks/months/through the end of the year and beyond.

Sebuah refleksi setelah nyemplung di SD/MI swasta di Jogja, dihadapkan dengan SPP perbulan minimal seperempat - lebih dr setengah UMR haha. Tapi emng kualitas pendidikannya juga nggak main main. Bayangin aja anak kelas dua SD berkelahi dengan akademik, hafalan, eskul, dan les. Keknya dulu w umur segitu mainan bola bekel wkwk.

Beruntung kalo anaknya mau break the boundaries dan punya self learner yang tinggi. Mau coba ini itu, kalo engga? ya orang tua yg kudu aware dan extra efforts (pola parenting penting banget ini). Didik diri sendiri duu kan ya, sebelum didik amanah Allah yang lain. Jadi kita usahakan apa? Ntar dulu cari calon Bapaknya, belajar yang bener dan kerja yang berkah.

At least ((bismillah calon calon ibu)) prinsipnya pendidikan yang berkualitas itu harus diusahakan ((diniatkan)) dari sekarang. Kenapa? selain mereka lebih berprivilage, lingkungan (pola asuh dan geographic) emang seberpengaruh itu. Apalagi anak kabupaten atau daerah, kudu punya endurance dan effort yang lebih to reach out banyak hal (w nggak capek buat sounding ini wkwk).

Real example sejompang itu akses, fasilitas, dan paparan informasinya. Pengalaman pribadi, w baru tes TOEFL pertama kali pas SMA itu baru hampir 500 (blm nembus), meanwhile yang lebih “kota” udah pada kenal IELTS, yang lebih advance. Haha. Ranah sosial, tadi banget, Nurash udah semaju itu dalam memanajemen masjid, visinya sebagai peradaban ilmu (semua bidang, nggak cuma keislaman tapi juga sains dan sosial dengan pemateri dosen, pofessor, dan praktisi). Penggeraknya siapa? Yak, mulai pak takmir lulusan S2, pak marbot suka kajian, relawan kebanyakan on going S1-S2, dan mas mbak baitul alumni FIM, alumni UGM, UNY, dst, sementara di daerah agak dalam, menghidupkan masjid masih menjadi PR. Taukan seberpengaruh apa pendidikan itu🥹🤧

Bukan mau compare, tapi we have to open our eyes wider, kalo perlu naked. Kek jadi curhatan anak daerah yang merantau di kota wkwk. Gimana ya, intinya kita sebagai anak daerah nggak boleh kalah dan kudu semangat buat get a little star itu. Belajar. Belajar. Belajar. Meskipun tergopoh gopoh dan harus mastato'tum. Hmm apa ya, pendidikan itu outputnya berdampak pada semua sendi kehidupan, karena yang ditajamkan pola pikirnya, mungkin barang tak nampak tapi paling esensial

Primer día :)

Hoy ha sido mi primer día en la empresa y, la verdad, me he sentido como si fuera el primer día de cole. Me he levantado una hora antes para no llegar tarde, he revisado la dirección diez veces antes de salir y me he adecentado lo máximo posible para dar una buena primera impresión. Es curioso lo mucho que nos importan las impresiones que puedan llegar a tener unos desconocidos sobre nosotros. ¿Les habré parecido simpática? ¿Seré lo que esperaban? Supongo que sí, ya que si no se habrían ahorrado la parafernalia de contratarme.

¡Ah! También me han presentado a todos mis compañeros, aunque solo he sido capaz de retener el nombre de David, mi tutor (alumni de la casa). Aunque si soy sincera, los nombres son mi menor preocupación, lo que más me perturba es que no tengo ni la más remota idea del sector en el que voy a trabajar, cosa obvia si tenemos en cuenta de que no soy fumadora ni de CBD, ni de cualquier cosa que se inhale. ¡E aquí la magia de la publicidad y la comunicación!, puedes llegar a convertirte en una pequeña experta sobre temas que en tu vida te habrías parado a investigar.

En definitiva, me espera un largo viaje que compartiré por aquí. Trataré de ser lo más franca posible.

Normalmente, me vale madre cuando dicen que odian Primos, sé que la mayoría que se quejan ni siquiera la verán cuando se estrene y van a chillar cuando sea renovada para una segunda temporada, pero realmente desear que se vuelva lost media solo por un Intro de 46 segundos se me hace una falta de respeto a todo el equipo que fue puesto en el mismo saco de boxeo por las declaraciones de una actriz de voz.

Bueno since nobody asked, i will contradict this statement as person with more knowledge on the industry specially since i've been covering Disney TVA for 8 years also im Mexican who has stayed more neutral on the whole controversy additionaly anything involving Harvey Beaks/Big City Greens alumni projects interest me and have done research in every BCG Alumni project at Disney.

Before starting, i recommend these videos who gave a more neutral look to the series.

I want people to understand that a show from concept to greenlight to release takes alot of time, the following arguments are from multiple interviews with Natasha Kline and the Primos team from 2021-2023.

1- Primos originated from 2017 and was pitched and rejected by Disney the same year, it wasn't till 2019 when the project went back to Disney TVA development and was greenlight on November - December 2020. This is common on the industry for example Pedro Eboli (Keep that person in mind) started on Disney TVA development on 2020 and left on 2021 due COVID-19 cuts at Disney, Eboli returned to Disney TVA Development Summer 2023.

2- From multiple interviews, animation festivals and podcasts where Kline was invited, the series is meant to represent the chicano culture on Los Angeles, fellow workers like Sage Cotugno (Owl House), Megan Nicole Dong (Centaurworld) have stated this as they grew up on those small towns on L.A where families from Mexican-American inmigrants are very frequent. The show is meant to represent the cultural clash between how a American-Mexican who mostly grew up within the American culture meeting their Mexican roots within their extended family from Mexico. (You can see the "Hollywood" sign on the intro)

TLRD: That 100% Molly McGee but as a show for chicanos

3- The crew from Primos spans from The Owl House and Amphibia and both Matt Braly and Dana Terrace have shown support to Kline for the project. The show has a heavy Mexican-American crew, unlike people say, other people who have showed and giving their blessing to Primos are crew members and lead creatives are from the same shows/films with latino characters that animation twt are using it to trash Primos. (Spiderman In To Spiderverse, Onyx Equinox,Maya and The Tree, Casagrandes, Victor And Valentino, Hamster & Gretel, The Proud Family Louder And Prouder, El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera etc..)

4.- Is wild to judge a show only on a leaked pilot from 2019 who will get changed in the final product and a Theme Song who probably will be changed based on the delays than a entire 30 episode season who hasn't even aired yet, specially since staff members from other Disney TVA shows have said that the show is good. I know Kline since the early Big City Greens days and she isn't this super evil creator like Butch Hartman or Chris Savino.

5- When the main target demographic that you’re trying to appeal to is rightfully calling out your show for being tone deaf and racist. Primos criticism from latinos are mostly jokes and memes for shitpost usar eso como "fair criticism" es una mamada y lo sabes, the majority of the videos on Youtube from latinos are either rage bait channels or people who wanted to jump in the trend of the moment, the majority moved to either trash The Little Mermaid (2023) or that McDonalds Japan AD "Este comercial hizo a los PROGRES enojar" o "La Sirenita PROGE de Disney esta fracasando"

6- Mexicans and Latinos have told me trought social media that they never planned to watch the show anyways, they where jumping the badwagon of the moment and never cared for Disney TVA shows overall

Funny beacuse there's a looming Animation Strike this summer for unfair conditions, crunch and abuse from CEOs and studios so saying this....... is a choice....... also they are doing it, the infamous character "Cookita" got renamed to "Lucita", it's obvious that the Theme Song is getting changed and probably Terremoto Heights is getting changed.

Unrelated to OP but famous Mexican Actress from the Era de Oro del Cine Mexicano Angélica María aka "La Novia de Mexico" is voicing Tater's Grandma "Buela" and Xolo Maridueña from Blue Beetle and Moon Girl fame will be a guest star so Mexican and Mexican-American celebrities are ok with the show overall

8- Disney despite it's hypocrisy and being a bad company overall is the only studio accepting original animation ideas from latinos or with latino mcs, we have SuperStar which it's cast call reveals that the main character Alejandra Fuentes is latina, Neon Galaxy supposedly stars a latine trans princess, Pedro Eboli will become the first Brazilian in having a Disney show, The Proud Family spin-off focusing on LaCienega and The Boulevardez and Jose Zelaya having a preschool show with a Salvador mc.

TLRD: No estoy diciendo que de a huevo te tenga que gustar el show pero desear que se vuelva lost media por una controversia causada por una sola actriz de voz es de perdedores...

I normally hate it when a show ends up becoming lost media, but in all honesty, Disney should have just quietly shelved Primos after the controversy.

When the main target demographic that you’re trying to appeal to is rightfully calling out your show for being tone deaf and racist. Then it’s time to just scrap everything and go back to the drawing board.

Pushing the release date to 2024 and then attempting to stealth drop the show is um, certainly a choice.
