Alright seriously who put cameras in bunker 9?
I dunno why but the pjo swiftie stuff annoys me. Both Annabeth and Percy are rockers. Percy needs no explanation. But Annabeth likely due to how young she was when she ran away and her circumstances thereafter just would have Thalia's music taste. Which is canonically punk rock. You know which pjo character absolutely would be a swiftie?
Leo.
Man has big small town girl gremlin energy. He'd be working on projects lip syncing along to you belong with me while angsting about Jason 24/7.

I’m trying to branch out from my usual angst by writing a happy(ish) fic.
Summary: Jason goes back to Camp Jupiter after the war and reveals that he and Leo are dating. He struggles so deal with the backlash from that while simultaneously having to cope with being long-distance.
CW: Swearing, Octavian
Word Count: 2,423
VALGRACE FANFICTION- “Fuck ‘em”
When Jason had announced to Camp Jupiter that he was seeing someone, he wasn’t sure what had been more appalling. That the someone in question was a boy, or that he was Greek.
Octavian had, of course, been outraged on both accounts: “We let a man like this become Praetor! He is fraternising with the enemy in a very un-Roman-like fashion!”
That’s what he called it. “Un-Roman”- like for some reason Jason was any less Roman because he was bisexual.
But it wasn’t just Octavian spouting bullshit. There was a shift in the way people acted under his command- they seemed less trusting, like Jason had become some foreign invader. Even though he had stepped down as Praetor and given his powers to Frank, he still held the newly-created title of “honorary Praetor”, alongside Percy, to commemorate all the work he had done defeating Gaia. People should still listen to him, respect him. But it was different now. His boyfriend was a Greek.
He didn’t dare tell them it was the same Greek that had fired on New Rome, albeit under the influence of evil spirits.
Some of them had been supportive, especially those in the fifth cohort. They were used to being outcasts.
“Children of Vul- I mean, Hephaestus, though?” His friend, Dakota, had said, “They’re good to have around. Large, beefy, big muscles. Good fit for a son of Jupiter like you.”
Jason laughed nervously, “Uh-huh. Yeah… large… muscles… right.”
Oh my gods, Praetor Grace had a twink. That was another thing he didn’t dare tell them. He let them imagine their leader with a powerful hunk for a boyfriend- at least that way he could keep some dignity.
He felt bad being embarrassed by Leo. He was awesome. He had a badass flying dragon. He told cool jokes and made Jason laugh. Jason was proud to call him his boyfriend. Or, at least, that’s what he told himself every morning. Then he’d step outside, and be faced with the weird looks and behind-the-hand whispers, and suddenly he didn’t feel so proud. He didn’t hold it against Leo, though. He loved how the kid acted so unapologetically himself- unlike Jason, who needed everyone to like him so much.
Jason didn’t care about the stares when he was with him. The asshole comments from Octavian seemed like distant memories when he looked into those big, dark eyes, complete with the playful little twinkle and mischievous smile. But when he was without Leo, he was a nervous wreck. The only thing that kept him going were Leo’s monthly visits. That was the one thing they couldn’t take away from him. He counted the days in his head to when he was gonna see him again. When Octavian was being shitty, he’d just think “twenty more days”, “ten more days”, “five more days”, “one more day”.
He met Leo and Festus outside the New Rome border. He picked the tiny guy up in his arms and twirled him around, and then kissed him. Leo’s skin was warm to the touch, like it always was when he was nervous.
“I missed you so much,” Jason whispered, although there was no-one around to overhear.
“I missed you too, Sparky. Camp isn’t the same without you.”
“Are they treating you well there? Anyone still giving you shit for your powers?”
“I’m fine Jason, everyone’s super nice,” Leo replied, although Jason could tell it was probably exaggerated. Not a lie- just a projection. What Jason wanted to hear. He decided not to call him out on it- Leo just didn’t want Jason to worry, that’s all.
“You’ve not been spending too much time in the workshop, I hope? Actually go outside once in a while.”
“I’m outside now.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“You worry too much,” Leo said, standing on his tiptoes to kiss him.
But Leo had worries of his own. They talked causally for a while, before Leo interrupted him with a question that Jason had been dreading.
“Why do you always ask me to meet you outside the border?” Leo asked.
Jason had a pre-planned response for this, “I just wanna keep you separate from my work. At Camp, I’m a leader. A soldier. Praetor Grace. With you, I can be myself. I can be Jason. I want it to stay that way.”
Leo’s eyes held so many different emotions, it was hard for Jason to tell what one was most prominent- sadness, resolution, hope- Jason had spent many hours searching those eyes for the secrets that they contained, and he still had not found them all. Leo sighed.
“They… they don’t know about me, do they?”
Jason hesitated- but he couldn’t lie to Leo.
“They know I’m dating a son of Hephaestus… they don’t know it was the same son of Hephaestus that fired on New Rome,” he admitted.
“You’re embarrassed.”
“No, I’m not!” Jason said, which wasn’t entirely true.
“You are! You’re worried about being seen with me! That’s why you meet me out here- you don’t want people to know you have a dangerous freak for a boyfriend. Praetor Grace and the scrappy little street rat he took pity on,” Leo looked down and kicked the dirt.
“I think you’re a pretty cute street rat,” Jason said, ruffling Leo’s messy, greasy hair. Then his smile turned serious, “Leo, I don’t want you to think that I think of you that way. I’m not embarrassed by you, it’s just…” he looked at the sky and sighed, “There’s a lot of expectations that I have to live up to. And when I’m with you I get to say “fuck ‘em”, but when I’m there…”
“Yeah, I get it,” Leo said. He looked up at Jason with those big, busy eyes- drawing ordinance survey maps of Jason’s face in his mind, “I really do, Jason. I understand feeling like you need to be someone else to get people to like you. I get it.”
Jason smiled and hugged him.
“We can stay like this. You don’t have to let me inside the border. We can just say “fuck ‘em” out here,” Leo mumbled, his voice muffled in the fabric of Jason’s hoodie.
“One day,” Jason assured him, “One day I wanna say “fuck ‘em” to their faces. There’s a really nice café in New Rome I wanna take you to.“
“But we don’t have to say “fuck ‘em” today.”
“No.”
His time with Leo came and went. Jason went back to his duties, to the stares and the whispers.
He sat on the lunch table with the rest of the fifth cohort, chatting idly about the local gossip.
“Heard we got some exchange students from Camp Half-Blood,” one of them remarked, “Because we’re doing that now, apparently.”
“They have all these freaky little behaviours- it’s not sitting right with the other cohorts.”
“Yeah, Greeks are weird,” Jason remarked, leaning back in his chair, “And I should know- I’m in love with one.”
The whole table went quiet. Jason seemed to realise what he’d just said.
“Oh,” was all he could manage in response.
Dakota broke the silence, “Man, I thought you were just his sugar daddy, I didn’t know you guys were actually in love!”
“I-I didn’t know either, ‘til I just said it,” Jason stuttered, still in shock, “But… yeah. Yeah, I love him.”
“So when do we get to meet him?” One of the other members of the fifth asked.
“Well,” Jason leaned forward, contemplating, “He comes to visit me every month. He’s coming again in thirteen days. I could…”
He looked around the dining hall. He took in the sneers as people caught his eye. The whispers and snickers and pointing. He realised that that would never change. As long as he was open about who he was, there would always be backlash. The only thing he could do was to not let it get to him. To say “fuck ‘em”. And as terrifying a prospect as that was, Jason was ready. He was ready to rise above the snide remarks and disrespect and yell “I’m in love with Leo Valdez!”
Because he was. He loved that tiny imp of a kid. He loved his loud mouth and weird quirks. He loved how Leo would hold his hand and tap out little morse code messages that Jason didn’t understand, but would speculate for days what they meant. He could look it up, or ask Annabeth, but he loved to fantasise.
Leo was leaning against Festus in their usual spot outside the border. When Jason saw him, he tackled him with such force that Leo’s hair caught fire in surprise. Luckily, Jason pulled away before it could burn him.
“You’re in a good mood,” Leo observed, patting out the flames on his head.
“Yeah, well… I’ve decided,” Jason told him, “I’m ready. I wanna take you inside the border.”
Leo stopped fussing with his hair and looked up at Jason, “Are you sure?”
“Positive,” Jason assured him, holding out his hand, “Come on!”
Leo grinned and took Jason’s hand. A little spark of electricity ran along Jason’s spine. He took off for the city, pulling Leo behind him. Leo was giggling in that cute way he did when he got exited and thought no-one could hear him. They ran like the wind- literally. As Jason yanked him along, he summoned the winds to push them faster, lifting them up into the air slightly. They were inside New Rome now, Jason dragging him through winding streets and bustling crowds. Jason felt truly free, running along with Leo. He was overjoyed. For once, he didn’t care about expectations or who he should be. They were just two kids having fun.
They stopped outside a sidewalk café with Romanesque architecture, like the rest of the city. There was one of those classic red-and-white-striped awnings over the front, and clusters of tables and chairs littered the pavement outside.
“Lunch?” Jason asked, turning to Leo, “They do paninis and toasted sandwiches.”
“I would kill for a panini right now.”
“What about drinks?”
“Diet coke?”
“Gods, no. You’re not having any more caffeine, Mr Hyper. I’ll get you a lime soda,” the conversation was dull and mundane, but Jason found it comforting. They had spent so much of their time together with the weight of the world resting on their shoulders. Now that that was finally over (and Jason rapped on the wooden café table at the thought, praying he wouldn’t jinx it), they could finally settle into a monotonous rhythm, like and old married couple.
Wow. That image took him by surprise- him and Leo growing old together- but it was a good sort of surprise. Jason didn’t push the thought away, instead, he let it wash over him, clinging to the notion that they had hope. A future in the making.
Lunch was going awesome- until Octavian showed up.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t Praetor Grace- sorry, former Praetor Grace.”
“Honorary Praetor,” Jason corrected, not looking up from the menu he was reading, “Still ranked above you, Octavian, so a position you should treat with respect.”
Jason didn’t bother looking up to see Octavian’s reaction. He continued to ignore the kid, until he saw him turn to face Leo.
“Hey! Isn’t that the Greek Scum who destroyed half the city?!” He yelled, “Guards! Guards!”
“Octavian, no,” Jason commanded, looking him directly in the eyes, “I saw to it that Leo was pardoned. That incident was not through his actions.”
“It very much looked like it was through his actions, from where I was standing!” Octavian replied, angrily.
Jason stood up. He grabbed Leo’s hand, partially for reassurance, partially as a way of telling Octavian to suck on a cavalry sword- a way of saying “Fuck ‘em”.
“Oh… oh my gods! That is your little pet?!” He pointed at Leo like he was a disgusting patch of mould.
“Uh-huh. And what’re you gonna do about it, Octavian? Run and tell? I am fucking fine with everyone knowing. In fact-“ Jason leapt up onto the café table, still holding onto Leo’s hand, “Listen up, motherfuckers!”
“Jason, what’re you-“
Jason squeezed Leo’s hand to reassure him and Leo stopped protesting, but he still looked worried.
“I’m in love with Leo Valdez!” Jason yelled, “He’s tiny and Greek and he’s awesome. You motherfuckers might look down on him. You might think he’s dangerous, or that he’s a freak. But I see how awesome he is. And sweet. And badass. And cute. And funny. And none of you-“ he pointed a finger at the crowd of passers-by, who were giving him annoyed and disgruntled looks, “Get to say a fucking WORD against him!” He turned towards Octavian, looking down at him and jabbing a finger in his face, “Especially a slimy little piece of shit like you, Octavian.” Jason jumped down from the table, reclined in his seat, picked up the menu, and studied it with his glasses at the end of his nose much like how an old man would study a newspaper.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna enjoy lunch with my boyfriend.”
Octavian scoffed, and left.
“Jason…” Leo was staring at him with those eyes of many feelings. Jason counted wonder, shock, horror, pride, lust, reverence and a seventh emotion he couldn’t quite describe.
“I’m sorry if that was too… loud, Leo. I don’t wanna make you feel-“
“Y-You’re in love with me?”
“…Yeah. Yes. I am,” Jason searched for what emotion was the brightest in those eyes, but there were too many and it was too confusing. He could never pick just one, “Is it too soon? Should I have waited? Should I have asked you first before yelling it in the street-“
“No! No, it’s fine. It’s… amazing, actually. And I love you too, Jason, I really do.”
Jason squeezed Leo’s hand again. Now that Leo had said it, Jason saw the love surface above the mess of other feelings in those eyes. He saw it bud and bloom like blossoms in springtime across Leo’s fiery irises. He wanted to get lost in those meadows of brown and gold, and when Leo closed those eyes to lean in to kiss him, Jason was slightly crestfallen at the fact that he couldn’t keep staring at them. Soon, though, Leo’s lips were against his, and his disappointment melted away. He had plenty of time to stare into those eyes later. They had their whole future ahead of them, and nobody was gonna stand in their way.

The Cupid scene but make it unrequited? Valgrace
Meant to finish this yesterday but couldn't get it done in time so heres it now. I'm not completly happy with it but im just glad its done.
-------
"You cannot lie to Cupid, Leo Valdez. If you let your shame and sadness rule you...well, your fate will be even sadder than mine," Favonius said, and Leo could have sworn there was pity in his eyes before the god disappeared in the wind.
Leo felt like he was back in Khione's ice palace. There was no way this wind god he just met knew his deepest, darkest, never-to-be-said-out-loud feelings. Right?.
Right?.
No, he must be talking about something else, and Leo is just being stupid and paranoid. He has to be.
Fortunately, or, more unfortunately, Leo didn't have the time to dwell on the ominous words of wind gods.
Because the ground was shaking. Why was the ground shaking?
So. A voice said.
Something zipped past his face and nicked his ear, throwing him off his feet and into Jason. Pain blossomed in his right ear, and he was pretty sure he was bleeding.
"You okay?" Jason asked, catching him in his strong arms.
Leo winced, holding a hand to his injured ear as he scrambled to his feet, trying not to think about the fact he just fell in Jason's arms. "Yeah, I'm good," he muttered.
You come to claim the sceptre. The voice said behind them, more like stating rather than asking.
Leo turned to where the voice was coming from, but no one was there.
"Cupid!" Jason called, standing at Leo's back with his sword drawn, "Where are you?".
The voice—Cupid laughed. It definitely did not sound like it belonged to a sweet baby angel's. It sounded rich and velvety but also threatening— like an ember in a fire before burning a house to the ground.
Where you least expect me. Cupid answered, As love usually is.
Leo's heart skipped a beat as something invisible slammed into Jason and hurled him across the street. He toppled down a set of concrete steps and sprawled on the floor of an excavated Roman basement.
I thought you'd know better, Jason. Cupid's voice circled overhead like a vulture. You've found true love after all. Or do you still doubt yourself?
"Jason!" Leo screamed, scrambling down the steps.
Jason took his hand and got to his feet. "I'm okay! Just sucker punched by an angel."
Oh, Did you expect me to play fair? Cupid laughed. Make no mistake; I am no angel, Jason Grace. I am Love. I am never fair.
Oh boy, do I know that. Leo thought dryly before Jason swept him off his feet.
Literally not...not metaphorically.
Leo was swept into Jason's chest as Jason intercepted an arrow that would have gone straight into Leo's chest with his sword. The arrow exploded against the nearest wall, giving them a nice limestone shower.
Of course, Jason wasn't done giving Leo butterflies in his stomach and grabbed his hand, pulling him up the steps and behind another wall as another arrow rained down on them, shattering a column nearby into a thousand pieces.
"Is this guy Love or Death?" Jason growled, still holding Leo's hand.
Thanatos and I are often not so different. Cupid said from somewhere above, except Death is usually kinder.
Leo understood that more than he should: Death is just...well, death. The End. Just boom, you're dead! No more pain. No more problems. And if you're lucky, you get to chill in Elysium for eternity.
While Love is...terrifying: It hurts, sometimes it doesn't last long, and some just don't get it (cough cough).
"We just want the sceptre!" Jason shouted, poking his head above the stone wall. "We're trying to stop Gaia! Are you on the gods' side or not?"
A second arrow shot at the air dangerously close to Jason's head, landing on the ground near Leo's feet and glowing white-hot.
The arrow's temperature shot past 2,397 F (Hephaestus power.) before combusting into a geyser of flame.
Love is on every side. Cupid said. "And no one's side. Don't ask what Love can do for you.
"Great," Jason said. "Now he's spouting greeting cards as well as trying to kill us."
"It's official. Queen was right; Too much Love kills you," Leo joked. If Love is gonna kill him in the end, then at least he wants to make Jason laugh before they both die.
Leo caught a ghost of a smile on Jason's lips before another arrow landed between them, ruining the moment.
You can't hide from Love. It will always find you no matter what. Cupid's voice said nearby.
Leo's hair sparked; the idea of burning the feathers off that smug, overgrown chicken's wings was getting more and more enticing. He knew Cupid was toying with them, enjoying their discomfort as he shot his stupid arrows.
Another arrow narrowly missed him, and something inside of him snapped.
He snatched the arrow up and threw it back where it came from. "Enough games, show yourself!"
Lucky for him, he had good aim. The arrow hit something and hung in the air for a moment before dissolving, leaving no trace: not even a spot of ichor that could help pinpoint his location.
"...Very good, Leo," Cupid said, though it was strained. There wasn't a wound, but it must have hurt. "At least you can sense my presence. Even getting a glance at true love is more than most Heroes manage. Maybe there's hope for you after all".
"So we get the sceptre?" Jason asked.
Cupid laughed. Leo was seriously getting sick of that laugh.
Oh no, there is still much you can do for me.
Jason started to speak, "But—"
An arrow shot through the air, zipping past Jason and hitting Leo square in the shoulder.
"Leo!"
There was a burst of pain in Leo's right shoulder, and suddenly, he was back at the Wilderness School again.
He had just met this cool guy, Jason. He was also a foster kid like him. Jason seemed too good for a school like this. He wouldn't tell him and Piper what he was here for, just that his case worker, Juna— Juno or something — sent him here.
Piper told him later on that she thought Jason was kinda hot.
Leo thought so too but he didn't tell her that.
Another arrow hit him in the back this time.
He wasn't sure when Piper and Jason started dating; it had only felt like a day had passed since they met.
He pretended it didn't hurt.
He didn't dare ruin their happiness.
So he just smiled and bared it every time they flirted with each other and told jokes every time they kissed.
"Stop it!" Leo shrieked, "None of it was real! Hera faked everything!"
Not everything, Cupid said softly, and a third arrow dug into his skin.
This time he was on their first quest in Boreas's ice palace.
Khione told them he couldn't come with them to see Boreas because of his fire.
He played it off that he wasn't hurt about it, even though it did. It wasn't the first or last time someone was scared of him.
Jason tried to defend him at first with his hand on Leo's shoulder, which only made him love him more.
And it sting more when Jason walked away holding hands with Piper, leaving him alone with Cal.
It was fine. None of it was real, not even his feelings were, and even if they were, it's not like he could act on them. He was just the funny guy, the mechanic, the seventh wheel. He wasn't supposed to fall for his male best friend, who was already dating his other best friend. He wasn't supposed to want something more than friendship with Jason.
He bit back the tears that were already threatening to fall. The grass at his feet was starting to smoke. "Show yourself!" He screamed.
It is a costly thing, Cupid said, looking on the true face of Love.
Another column shattered. Jason barely scrambled out of its way in time.
My wife Psyche learned that lesson, Cupid said, She was brought here aeons ago when this was the site of my palace. We only met in the dark. She was warned to never look upon me, and yet she could not stand the mystery. She feared I was a monster. One night, she lit a candle and beheld my face as I slept.
Jason said something, but Leo couldn't hear him over the sound of his own heart pounding in his chest. He could still somehow hear Cupid though. Of course, Love was the only thing he could hear other than his heart.
Cupid laughed from somewhere at the edge of the Amphitheater. I was too handsome, actually. A mortal can't look upon a god's true appearance without suffering grave consequences; just look at poor Semele. My mother, Aphrodite, cursed Psyche for her distrust. My poor lover was tormented, forced into exile and given impossible tasks to prove herself. She was even sent to the underworld on a quest to show her dedication. She earned her way back to me, but she suffered greatly.
Leo had no clue what he was talking about, but it sounded like he was a terrible husband.
Jason thrust his sword into the sky like he was a demigod He-man and was about to yell, 'By the power of Jupiter!' and beat up Cupid.
Unfortunately, he did not do that.
Instead, the ground shook, and lightning blasted a crater where Cupid's voice was coming from.
There was silence, and for a moment Leo thought it was over and that they could get the sceptre and leave. And hopefully, never speak of this day again.
Leo should have known they were never that lucky.
An invisible force—Cupid, knocked Jason to the ground, sending his sword skittering across the road.
A good try, Cupid said, his voice already distant. But love isn't so easily pinned down.
A wall collapsed, Jason barely managed to roll out of the way.
That was enough for Leo.
"Hey!" Leo yelled, waving his arms around. "It's me you want! Not him!. Leave him alone!"
Poor Leo Valdez. The god's voice was patronizing and tinged with disappointment. Do you really know what You want, much less what I want? My beloved Psyche risked everything in the name of Love to win my trust back. And you — what have You risked in my name?
"I'm literally saving the world!" He yelled, clenching his fists, "I've faced way worse! You don't scare me!"
I scare you very, very much. Face me. Be honest.
Jason struggled to get up off the ground, and a piece of Leo's heart broke. This was all his fault. He knew exactly what Cupid wanted. But he didn't want to admit it just yet.
All around Leo, the ground started to heat up. Grass smoked, and stones steamed.
"Give us Diocletian's sceptre." He said, trying to put his best brave face on. "We don't have time for games."
Games? Leo's breath was knocked away as a hand slapped him sideways into a granite pedestal. Love is no game! It is no flowery softness! It is hard work — a quest that never ends. It demands everything you have — especially honesty. Only then does it rewards.
Pain blosomed from Leo's...everywhere. His head spun from the pain, and the ground started to heat up more. Stones were starting to crack, and the grass was starting to spark. All it would take was one more push, and everything would burn.
Jason was up now and had retrieved his sword, "Leo!" he called, "What does this guy want from you?".
Leo's lip trembled. Everything was going so wrong. He didn't want to admit it. He didn't want to tell Jason. "I don't know!" He yelled back, and an arrow embedded itself in the pedestal, inches away from Leo's face.
Tell him, Leo Valdez, Cupid ordered. His voice was starting to get less patient now. Tell him you're a coward, that you're afraid of yourself and your feelings. Tell him why you hide among your machines like your father. Tell him the real reason you run and why you're always alone.
Leo gritted his teeth, his entire body trembling with pain and frustration. Cupid's words cut through him like a knife, exposing the raw truth that he had been desperately trying to bury.
The grass started to burn and the stone's cracks got bigger.
"I... I can't," Leo stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I can't tell him."
Cupid's laughter echoed around them, mocking and cruel. "You see, Jason Grace? Your friend is afraid. Afraid of his own feelings, afraid of the truth. He hides behind his jokes and his bravado, but deep down, he knows."
Leo let loose a guttural scream, and like a volcano erupting; everything exploded at once.
Magma burst from the rocks, splitting them wide open. The grass combusted into green flames — Greek fire —he really is going to burn everything down.
"H—haaa"
Leo laughed through the tears. It was really all he could do and all he really ever did. It was funny really; he'd worked so hard to shove everything down, yet it was all destroyed in a fiery explosion in less than an hour.
A nearby tree collapsed dangerously close to Jason as the fire consumed it. "Leo! What is he talking about?" He almost couldn't hear his voice over the fire.
Will you hide forever, Leo Valdez? Cupid taunted, who unfortunately can still be heard because not even fire can shut him up. Will you let fear rule your heart, or will you finally have the courage to face the truth?
He didn't want to face the truth. He was too scared of what would happen. What might Jason say. How he'd react.
He just wanted to keep things the same.
Even if it kills him.?
Leo sobbed, and the flames burned brighter. If this was love then he didn't want it. Or maybe if love was this painful then he deserved it. Another arrow pierced his back—or maybe that was the feeling of his heart breaking more—and more images flashed through his mind.
He was back on that mountain in Colorado. Jason had his arms around Piper, his face scrunched up in concern. Leo pretended it didn't bother him. It was cold, and Piper ended up getting hyperthermia. He had tried to ignore the aching in his chest. He didn't want to think about how much he wanted to be in her place.
After their quest, they left him alone while he worked on the Argo II. He named it after the ship the first Jason sailed on.
It was all for Jason.
He was back on the Argo right after he had fired on New Rome—Jason's home. Everyone was angry with him, and Jason was in the infirmary; some asshole threw a brick at his head.
He didn't go down to him. He couldn't face Jason.
It was all his fault.
Jason got hurt because of him.
And he didn't even have the guts to face him.
There were more scenes like this flooding his senses. At some point, his brain switched off, and he was just drowning in agony. He couldn't move or speak.
He was weak.
Meanwhile, the flames grew to an inferno of green and reds, drowning out everything. Leo's hair was a white flame. An outline of wings caught fire for a moment before being put out again.
"Interesting!" Cupid's voice said from somewhere above. Do you have strength after all?
"I...I can't," Leo said, though it sounded more like a whimper. He was on his knees now.
Heh, too weak to admit your feelings and too weak to stand, his mind mocked in Cupid's voice.
Still hiding, Cupid said above, a flame burned an outline of a wing tip before going out again. You do not have the strength.
Leo sobbed. He really was weak. He was going to burn everything down just because he didn't want to admit his feelings.
"Leo" Jason yelled from somewhere. "It's okay! I get it!"
Leo stared at the burning grass below him. It was too hot for tears to fall. Only steam came from his eyes.
"No, you don't," He said defeatedly. Jason didn't understand. He couldn't understand. If he understood, then he wouldn't be so nice to Leo. "There's no way you understand. If you did you'd hate me".
And so you run away again, Cupid chided, From yourself, from your feelings, and from your friends.
The fire had engulfed Cupid's wings now. But the god laughed cruelly and blew it away.
"Leave him alone Cupid," Jason croaked somewhere. "This isn't your..."
Oh gods, he was hurting Jason again. The smoke is choking him.
Cupid's laugh echoed from above the flames. But oh, it is exactly my business, Jason Grace. Love is me. I am love.
"Leo!" Jason choked out through the smoke.
Oh, you're killing him, you're killing him. Leo's brain screamed. You're a monster, you're such a fucking monster, and you're weak.
"Look, I don't care if you're in love with Piper!"
He doesn't understand. He doesn't. He doesn't. Leo's brain screamed over and over again.
Cupid laughed again, and Leo's will broke.
"I—I'm not in love with Piper," Leo said, and everything seemed to go silent.
The fire subsided and all of Leo's fight and denial went out at once.
Cupid circled Leo like a shark. His form was visible now—long blond hair, muscular in a simple white frock and jeans, snowy white wings that were singed at the tips. The bow and quiver slung over his shoulder were weapons of war—not toys. His eyes were as red as blood, as if every heart in the world was broken and squeezed dry into one poisonous mixture.
Leo vaguely recalled that some think that Eros was a son of Ares and Aphrodite. And he could see why:
Love and War were the most painful things in the world.
He gestured for Leo to continue.
"I have a crush on you, Jason." Leo said.
The fire died down so Leo could see Jason's face.
And he swore he saw pity in his eyes.
The End

CHAPTER 8 - Hidden Scars
Raphael raised his hands defensively.
 “ Am I wrong?? ”
Leo dropped his shoulders and bobbed his head at his far-from-sensitive brother. He was still being mindful of the pointed syringe in his hand, but still wanted to show his disapproval of Raph’s comment.
“ Really, Raph? “
His crimson-detailed brother only shrugged, raising his eyebrows. He opened his mouth, most likely about to spout out another hurtful comment, or perhaps a weakly-supported defense, but was interrupted by their youngest brother making his way through the still open doorway of the Med Bay.
“ Yeah, dude. That’s rich hearing YOU complain about someone's fear of needles.”
Raphael’s face instantly changed. His calm relaxed eyes grew wide the tiniest bit, forcing his pupils to constrict. His open mouth closed, hiding the spit he gulped down. His posture became tight as his arms crossed over his plastron, almost like a shield over his prideful, yet sensitive heart.
“ Yeah whatever.. “ Raph mumbled as he rolled his eyes.
Mikey smirked as understanding washed over his face. He immediately recognized the opening for relentless teasing and payback for the MANY times Raph had made fun of him for his phobias.
‘ Time to taste your own medicine, big bro. ‘
“ No please, Raph, tell us all about the times you’ve been SO brave when it came to getting a shot. Tell the whole class! “ Mikey gestured to Leo and Don. ( Probably not Lotus, seeing how she was still….out of commission.)
Raph’s shoulders rose as they dug further into his plastron.
“ Shut up. “ Raph hissed through gritted teeth.
Unfortunately, Raph’s growing annoyance only fueled Mikey’s thirst for vengeance.
“ Tell us all about the time dad found you hiding in the tv cupboard. “ Mikey was now speaking in a demeaning, baby-like tone, “ Was it because you were scaaaared of a wittle needleeee??? “
Raph’s shoulders now escalated nearly to his ears, as he gritted and bared his sharp teeth.
He was the only one of his brothers to have fangs, and often used such a trait to scare them when they were kids. They would joke sometimes that when God created Raph, He knew that he would have the temper of a lion, so he gave him teeth to match.
All throughout their childhood Raph would growl, bite, and sometimes even hiss when he was upset or scared. The brothers would call it his “ Feral Mode”.
.. and Mikey was poking the lion like a laughing baboon with a death wish..
“ SHUT UP, MIKEY. “ Raph warned.
Leo’s posture straightened at the sound of Raph’s growing anger.
He was unsure as to why the current conversation was causing Raph to get so.. TENSE.. Thanks to his lessons with Sensei, Raphael had actually made lots of progress with his temper.
..So what’s happening now??
Out of all the brothers, Raph and Leo would fight the most growing up.. So he knew when Raph had reached his breaking point.
… and he was nearly there.
“ Mikey, lay off. We get your point, now drop it. “ Leo was trying with all his might to protect any survivors from the imminent eruption of flame and seething anger about to go off.
Mikey chose to continue poking, shrugging off Leo’s warning.
“ Nahhhh he’s the tough big brother! Only babies fear things. Right, Raph? Isn’t that what you said to me when we were kids? “
Mikey’s voice was only seeped with innocent instigation. There was no poison on his tongue. Not a word was meant to truly HURT. Just.. a little payback now and then was rare. So you take it when you can get it. Afterall, his brothers and him would always tease each other. It never really caused bad blood. Perhaps a playful wrestling match on the ground, but nothing else.
Raph’s hands began to shake.
Mikey didn’t notice.
BUT DON DID.
It all clicked in his brain as to what was happening in his twin’s mind. The same awful memories blazed in his own, like a forest fire fueled by fear.
Flashes of being chained to the hard floor blinked in and out. The sight of his twin.. being strapped down to a table.
The eerie glow of green, painful liquid filling his veins-
- the screaming-
Don blinked. He shook his head to rid it of the horrid visions attempting to alter his reality. That’s all bad dreams were.. Just fantasies. Fantasies can’t hurt you.
… But Don knew. He knew what happened to them wasn’t just the bad dreams he was plagued with every time he tried to sleep.
It was real.
It happened.
He was there in that lab. And so was Raph.
He knew he needed to act fast.
Don’s gaze shot to his unknowing little brother with far more threat than he would’ve liked it to. He walked to the side of Mikey, gripping the youngest’s shoulder with his hand.
“ Mikey..”
His youngest brother turned his head the tiniest bit, still with the same smile on his face.
Raph turned his face away, as well as his body.
Don saw he wasn’t getting through to his ignorant little brother, so he turned him around using his tightening grip on the youngest’s shoulder.
“ -OW. Don! Ow- what?? “ Mikey nearly shouted, pulling away from Don’s vice of a grip.
He didn’t mean to hurt Mikey. But that’s what you get when you don’t listen. At least now he’s paying attention.
“ Mikey, please, that’s enough. “ Don stated quickly.
The seriousness in his older brother’s tone mixed with the unrelenting gaze of his eyes, made Mikey instantly question his methods of said payback. His eyes fell to being full of remorse as he gave Don a “ What did I do wrong? “ kind of look.
Don disconnected his gaze on Mikey and walked to go join Raph. Before he reached his twin, he turned around and signed to Mikey,
‘ Mistake. None. Knowledge. No. Raph. Fine. ‘
( You didn’t do anything wrong. You didn’t know. Raph will be fine. )
Don stopped in front of Raph, and deliberately made it so Leo or Mikey couldn’t tell what he was saying.
Leo noticed how Don didn’t immediately touch Raph, but withheld until after he spoke something. Raph nodded minutely and the two walked out of the Med Bay, Don’s hands guiding his twin’s body out the door.
Mikey barely caught it, but he knew he could see Raph wipe something from his face.
‘ There’s no way.. ‘ Mikey thought. ' What- what did I do to him? ‘
Mikey turned to face Leo, with eyes beginning to fill with tears.
“ Did…” Mikey squeaked, barely holding his composure; His breaking voice failing to hide his shame,
 “ .. did I do that to him? “
Leo looked at his youngest brother with just as many questions on his face. His eyes softened as he gave a weak smile.
“.. I don’t….I don’t think so, Mikey. I.. I don’t know what that was about either. “
Leo’s voice overflowed with concern for his brothers. So much had happened in the past 6 days.. So many horrible things..
And like the good leader and oldest brother he was supposed to be, he left his brothers to suffer.
ALONE.
Well.. that was fun. :) Enjoy!
To God be the glory!

Grailfinders #320: Leonardo da Vinci (Ruler)
Tumblr media
today on Grailfinders we’re making half the reason we spent the last week staring at columbus, Leonardo da Vinci (Ruler)! she is a Battle Smith Artificer to call her dino minions into battle, and that’s it! being able to build whatever you need makes the class super flexible.
check out her build breakdown below the cut, or her character sheet over here!
next up: when a bird hits your eye and it usurps your mind, that's a Mara!
Ancestry & Background
Leo I is still dead, so that means you’re still a Reborn, giving you +2 Constitution and +1 Intelligence, as well as proficiency in two skills of your choice (like Acrobatics and History), and a Deathless Nature that means you don’t need to eat, sleep, or breathe, and you have advantage on saves against being poisoned and dead, plus resistance to poison damage. you can even choose your size! I’d go small, because riding a robot triceratops into battle is fucking amazing, but it’s really up to you. finally, your Knowledge from a Past Life gives you the chance to add a d6 to a skill check proficiency times per day. you were so smart, you can think even after you’re dead!
you’re also still an Izzet Engineer, giving you proficiency in Arcana and Investigation. you also get an extended spell list, though most of them aren’t particularly useful for the build. check them out in the character sheet if you want to.
Ability Scores
as you’d probably expect, your Intelligence is your highest stat. after that, we’re bucking tradition and making Dexterity your second highest. you might not have your roller blades on any more, but you’re still a crack shot. third is your Wisdom. you’re one of history’s greatest geniuses, but you’re also a kid. for some reason. anyway, you get distracted more easily than big Leo. Constitution is still going to be positive though, rulers can take a beating. that means your Charisma is just okay. you’re personable enough, but you’re too busy taking care of Steggy to socialize that much. thankfully he has a nat 20 in charisma. that means we’re dumping Strength. you’re both a nerd and child, two of the most famously weak demographics known to mankind.
(I mean you’re also a servant so you can probably still snap a regular guy’s spine in half, but this has always been comparative.)
Class Levels
1. starting off as an Artificer, you get proficiency in Constitution and Intelligence saves, as well as in Perception and Nature. you need to be able to spout of dino facts at the drop of a hat, after all.
you also learn Magical Tinkering, so you can put tiny magical effects in tiny nonmagical objects for free, and your Spellcasting does use spell slots that recharge on long rests, but it does a lot more to boot. you can cast them with Intelligence btw.
I’m pretty sure the gang started a fire in the underwater cave that one time, and since Anastasia wasn’t there to light that, I guess we’ll have to give Create Bonfire to you too for your first cantrip. also pick up Acid Splash for your very first dino bullet. see, it’s green, just like the archeopteryx.
you can also prepare first level spells each day. technically you can rotate through your entire list as you please, but I’ll bring up the ones that are in-character. Chaos Bolt from the Izzet list is the closest we can get to your Noble Phantasm, dealing 2d8+1d6 damage, and the damage type is based on your d8 rolls. the reason a level 1 spell can work as your finishing move is because if both numbers are the same, you can blast another creature nearby, for theoretically infinite damage. that’s technically the most damage any character we’ve built can do!
more seriously, Feather Fall will help out your whole team when you’re climbing a vertical cliff face, Identify helps you know things because you’re smart, and Sanctuary will help you protect Steggy. with this on, anyone who directly attacks him in the next minute has to make a wisdom save or be forced to attack someone else. this ends early if he attacks somebody, but I doubt that’ll be a problem. this is mostly to keep him away from columbuses. columbii?
2. at level two you learn the main draw of artificers, the ability to Infuse Items. you can learn a total of four blueprints to start with, but you can only have half of them as actual items at any time. again, swap out as you deem necessary.
the Armor of Magical Strength is your big robo arms with six charges that recharge at dawn. you can spend a charge to either add your intelligence to a strength check or save, or to avoid being knocked prone. you can also make your crossbow more accurate by making it an Enhanced Weapon, adding +1 to all its attack and damage rolls. the Rope of Climbing isn’t the fastest way up, but it works; and the Bag of Holding is just plain useful.
3. at third level you become a Battle Smith, giving you your very first Steel Defender, a medium-sized robot you can command as a bonus action. it’s just the triceratops right now, but we’ll get more when our infusions allow. in the meantime, you’re also Battle Ready, giving you proficiency with martial weapons as well as the ability to use Intelligence instead of other stats when attacking with a magical weapon. with this, your enhanced flare gun becomes even deadlier!
you can also make The Right Tool for the Job over a short rest, creating any kind of artisan’s tools you need. you also get an extended spell list from your subclass, so you’ll always have Heroism and Shield ready to go.
4. we’re using your first ASI to pick up a feat, and it’s a pretty weird one at that- from the plane of Kaladesh, Servo Crafting gives you the find familiar spell as a ritual, creating a servo instead of an animal. it acts mostly like a normal familiar, but you can communicate telepathically with it and see through its senses while on the same plane. you can even use your servo as a living walkie talkie and speak through it. it can also attack as part of your action, but it deals a whopping 1 damage at a time, so uh. no. this one’s a lot more fragile, so it’ll be the archeopteryx later.
5. fifth level artificers get an extra attack if they’re a battle smith, but we’re not picking up the crossbow expert feat- you’re using a flare gun, after all. however, you do get second level spells too, so there’s a lot more there to work with.
if you want to turn your crossbow into an actual flare gun, your battlesmith spell Branding Smite has your back, dealing extra damage on hit and lighting them up for up to a minute. it’s pretty hard to hide when you have a flare sticking out of you. (warding bond is also nice, but you haven’t jumped in the way of any bullets yet.)
for your normal spells, check out Air Bubble to help the party find treasure at the bottom of the sea, See Invisibility to find extra-hidden traps, and Spider Climb to give the servants an easier way up the mountain. this level’s real big on support, huh?
6. Tool Expertise is nice, but doubled tool proficiency bonuses don’t mean jack compared to your next round of infusions. a Spell-Refueling Ring is nice, an extra spell slot never hurt, but the big-name item this level is the Cloak of the Manta Ray. while a creature is wearing this, it gains a swim speed and water breathing. now we can turn that triceratops into a futabasaurus! you can also give it to master if you want, but now you have all three dinosaurs available to you. we’re still working on some flight for the archeopteryx, but that one’ll take a while. in the meantime, have fun in the ocean while you can.
7. at level seven your Flashes of Genius kick in, so any time you or a nearby friend make a check or save you can backseat game and give them advice, adding your intelligence modifier to their roll Intelligence Modifier times a day.
8. use this ASI to pick up the Keen Mind feat for +1 to Intelligence but also to give you a bunch of useful smarts for your treasure hunting trip. you now have a perfect sense of direction and memory, and you can also keep track of the passage of time. mechanically this one’s kind of a dead level, but you can really mess with the DM with that memory trick.
9. ninth level battle smiths have an Arcane Jolt you can use Intelligence Modifier times a day. whenever you hit someone with a magic weapon or your dinosaur, you can jolt, either dealing an extra 2d6 damage or healing a nearby creature.
you also learn third level spells this time, including the freebies Aura of Vitality and Conjure Barrage from Battle Smith, plus Call Lightning from your background. for the spells you choose, Create Food and Water can help Gof out with dinner, and Intellect Fortress will make you even more protected because you’re just so dang smart.
10. at level ten you get another cantrip, Frostbite the blue bullet. you’re also a Magic Item Adept now, so you have another attunement slot, and crafting weaker magic items are faster & cheaper. you also get two more infusions- the Slippers of Spider Climbing can be master’s climbing gear, and the Boots of Striding and Springing will give your servo the boost it needs to fly short distances. by that I mean it can jump three times longer. unfortunately, its strength score is so atrocious that barely helps. its high jump height is a whopping 0 inches off the ground. look, flight was a new thing at the time, long jumping was the peak of performance.
11. eleventh level artificers can make Spell-Storing Items, putting a 1st or 2nd level spell into a weapon or focus. the spell can be cast by any creature, but it uses your intelligence to cast. you can only have one of these at a time, but they last indefinitely, and can be used Intelligence modifier times before wearing off.
12. speaking of, use this ASI to round up your Intelligence and Wisdom. now you have better everything. literally everything.
13. level thirteen doesn’t have any new features, but it does have fourth level spells! you get Aura of Purity and Fire Shield for free, as well as Conjure Minor Elementals and Divination from your background. that last one should be really helpful for treasure hunting, just ask the DM directly where it is!
the only fourth level spell I really need here is Summon Construct- the rest you can pick from at your leisure. now with your manta cloak on your steel defender and the spring boots on your servo, you can finally have all three robot dinosaurs up and ready at the same time! this construct doesn’t use your actions to take commands either, so all four of you can move pretty freely!
14. at level fourteen you become a Magic Item Savant, giving you yet another attunement slot, plus you don’t need to be a certain race or class to use any magic items.
furthermore, you get your red dino bullet Fire Bolt this level, as well as two more infusions. your Arcane Propulsion Armor is your regular rider gear, but since it’s just a change of clothes it makes sense to have it as an option. with this, your speed increases by five feet, and you have magical gauntlet weapons that deal force damage and can extend to twenty feet without disadvantage. while you’re treasure hunting, the Gem of Seeing will help you scan for clues. it comes with three charges that come back daily, and you can spend a charge for ten minutes of truesight as seen through the gem.
15. at level fifteen you gain one last goody from your subclass. now your Improved Defender has a stronger Arcane Jolt, as well as a boost to its AC, and it hurts those whose attacks it deflects. almost like it has big horns attached to a shield or something.
16. use this ASI to max out your Intelligence. you use that for literally everything, it should be as high as possible.
17 at level seventeen you finally get fifth level spells. your freebies are Banishing Smite and Mass Cure Wounds, but you can also Conjure Elemental as an engineer. our spells of choice this level are Skill Empowerment to be even smarter than anything thought possible, and Animate Objects to get a properly flying archeopteryx. you could also make a bunch of toy dinos come to life if you want, really go wild with it, you’re level 17 you deserve it.
18. we’re not done yet though! at level eighteen you become a Magic Item Master, giving you one last attunement slot as well as two more infusion options. the Ring of Protection and Amulet of Health both make you a little more ruler-y, with the former giving you a +1 bonus to your AC and all saves, while the latter gives you a ton of health by setting your constitution score to 19. that’s a full 36 HP difference, plus your concentration saves get a lot stronger.
19. with our last ASI, lets pump up those defenses even more with the Gift of the Metallic Dragon (though I guess it’s really more an amber-y dragon? anyway). with this, you learn Cure Wounds and can cast it for free once a day, but you can also spread some Protective Wings to protect yourself or a nearby ally, adding a +6 to their AC for one attack. you can do that 6 times a day.
20. the final level of artificer is so strong it’s almost impossible to multiclass out of, because why would you ever risk missing the Soul of Artifice? with this, you get a +1 bonus to all your saves per attuned magic item, and you can destroy an infusion instead of dropping to 0 HP each time it would happen. so that’s a +6 to all saves, plus six get out of fainting free cards per day, definitely a ruler-tier ability.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
like all artificers, you’re supremely flexible, with tons of options to swap in and out as the adventure calls for them. as long as you think ahead, you can be prepared for whatever the islands throw your way! also, you have plenty of damage types to keep yourself useful against resistant creatures, and you can fit into multiple party roles thanks to being able to heal or buff your allies.
that being said, one of your biggest virtues is your defense, especially when it comes to saving throws. your lowest save is a +5 roll, and you can add 5 to any of them pretty freely if you wish. you also have a pretty solid AC if you’re wearing medium armor and any of the armor-boosting infusions you’ve picked up, especially when you add in your dino defense. on top of that, as a reborn you can defend against one of the more common status debuffs easily, and you have advantage on death saves, so even after you finally fall, there’s a good chance you won’t stay down.
with all the infusions we’ve had to pick up for both your dinobots and treasure hunts, you have tons of mobility options available for the whole party, making all kinds of inhospitable terrain a cakewalk to traverse. from the deepest oceans to the highest mountains, no treasure can escape you for long!
Cons:
that being said, we spent a lot of your infusions on mobility instead of other options, so you’re not helping your party much with damage, at least beyond what you’re already doing with your flare gun and spells. plus, I doubt they’ll be happy you’re spending your infusions making your robots (which you can summon and just put them where you want) more mobile.
that’s especially true since your robots are fragile compared to the fleshier party members, with even your toughest only have a touch more than 100 HP at level 20. this is especially painful for your summoned construct, as they have barely enough health to last more than a round, even if you spend a fifth level spell slot to make them.
uh… your Charisma isn’t great? idk, even when you fritter away a ton of artificer stuff on nonsense it’s still a really strong class. there’s not a lot of weaknesses to point out here.
