"You- Lennon, you slept with him? You've been broken up for six fucking months and you slept with him?"
Lennon twisted her hands in her lap. Her multitude of rings created a brass symphony as they clinked and clanged. She merely chuckled.
"He... You know he still smells like cigarettes? I- Like, I know he quit. I just don't... How. Yeah." She stilled and, bearing her teeth in a horrifyingly brief smile, continue, "Fine. I shouldn't have, er, done that."
"No." Jude sighed. They cleared their throat, "Look, babes, think of this way: Ambrose is like one of those paintings he likes. You can look at it all you want but they will never look at you the same way."
Lennon was quick to retort, "Well, that's just..." She deflated, "Completely... Accurate. I should block him on Instagram."
Jude was, perhaps understandably, outraged.
"You still have his Insta? Jesus, Lennon!"
She shrugged, "You made me delete his number." She complained, "It- It was my only option."
They shook their head. Unbelievable. Jude pinched the bridge of their nose, relishing in the absence of their glasses. Lennon's conceited dismissal and vain explanation truly only led their mind to consider a painless death for one Ambrose Manalo.
However, Jude did not have the skills to get away with murder. Of this, they were blissfully aware. Dawson, on the other hand...

Paul McCartney and Julian Lennon in Weybridge, 1968.
“It was a delicate moment, of course, because I’m not even sure he [John] knew at the time that the song was for his son Julian. The song had started when I was travelling out one day to see Julian and his mother Cynthia. At this point John had left Cynthia, and I was going out to Kenwood as a friend to say hi and see how they were doing. People have suggested I fancied Cynthia, as people will, but that’s not at all the case. I was thinking about how tough it would be for Jules, as I called him, to have his dad leave him, to have his parents go through a divorce. It started out as a song of encouragement.” - Paul McCartney in his book “The Lyrics”

When George complaints about Paul who tells him what to play:
YORKE: When you’re working on a new Beatles album, how many songs would you personally come up with, and then how many would you get to use in the end? JOHN: Probably at least seven or eight each and there’s only fourteen tracks on an album, so you can imagine what it’s like. So you have to choose the ones you like best or the ones that are easiest to get across to the others. That’s the trouble.
(John Lennon, 1969, interview with Ritchie Yorke)
That was just saying: ‘This is my song, we’ll do it this way. That’s your song, you do it that way.’ It’s pretty hard trying to fit three guys’ music onto one album – that’s why we did a double.
(John Lennon, 1969, Anthology)
The other example that really pissed George off was when we were making ‘Hey Jude’. To me it had to have a sparse opening and it was going to build. So I started off ‘Hey Jude’ (sings) and George went ‘durnurnawnaww’ (makes guitar noise), and then ‘Don’t make it bad’, and he’d go ‘Derdlederlederdle’ and he was answering every line through the whole song and I just said, ‘No, man, I really don’t want that, it’s my song.’ The rule was whoever’s song it was to say how we did the arrangement for them.
(Paul McCartney, 1986, interview with Chris Salewicz for Q Magazine)
…But Paul and John and myself have got just so many songs, I think this is a good way, you know, if we do our own albums. That way we don't have to compromise. I mean, we lose whatever we get from each other -- we sacrifice that in order to do a total sort of thing, you know. Because in a way, Paul wants to do his songs his way. He doesn't want to do his songs my way. And I don't wanna do my songs their way, really. And uhh, I'm sure that after we've all completed an album or even two albums each, then that novelty will have worn off."
(George Harrison, May 1st 1970, interview with Howard Smith at WABC-FM radio)
When we go and do his song he’s in charge. I mean, I can give him everything I’ve got, but he’s written the song and he has a programme for it. If I do something that changes it and he likes it, then we’ll do that. But he is Mr McCartney when we do his song. And I’m Mr Ringo when we do mine. We’re just musician buddies. In the Beatles and in all sorts of studio creations, it’s like, if I write the song, it goes like this. And it’s always been the writer’s direction. John would direct his, Paul directed his, George directed his, and I directed ‘Octopus’s Garden’ and ‘Don’t Pass Me By’.
(Ringo Starr, summer 1997, interview for Club Sandwich)

The Bluebird on Your Shoulder
So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin,
You're waiting for someone to perform with.
And don't you know that it's just you? Hey Jude, you'll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder.
- Hey Jude (1968)
PLAYBOY: "Let's go back to jogging your memory with songs. How about Paul's song 'Hey Jude'?"
LENNON: "He said it was written about Julian. He knew I was splitting with Cyn and leaving Julian then. He was driving to see Julian to say hello. He had been like an uncle. And he came up with 'Hey Jude.' But I always heard it as a song to me. Now I'm sounding like one of those fans reading things into it... Think about it: Yoko had just come into the picture. He is saying. 'Hey, Jude'-- 'Hey, John.' Subconsciously, he was saying, 'Go ahead, leave me.' On a conscious level, he didn't want me to go ahead. The angel in him was saying, 'Bless you.' The devil in him didn't like it at all, because he didn't want to lose his partner."
- John Lennon, Playboy Interview (1980)
The first time I played this song for John and Yoko was on what we called the 'Magic Piano' in my music room. I was facing one way, and they were standing behind me almost on my shoulder. So when I sang, 'The movement you need is on your shoulder', I immediately turned around to John and said, 'Don't worry, I'll change that,' and he looked at me and said, 'You won't, you know. It's the best line in it.' So, this line that I was going to junk got to stay in. It's a great example of how we collaborated. He was so firm about keeping it in that when I sing 'Hey Jude' now, I often think of John, and it's become this emotional point in the song for me.
- Paul McCartney, The Lyrics (2021)
Late at night when the wind is still I'll come flying through your door And you'll know what love is for I'm a bluebird
...
Touch your lips with a magic kiss And you'll be a bluebird too And you'll know what love can do I'm a bluebird
...
Fly away through the midnight air As we head across the sea And at last we will be free You're a bluebird
...
All alone on a desert island We're living in the trees And we're flying in the breeze We're the bluebirds
- Bluebird (1973)
As far as I'm concerned it's a beautiful summer's day. There's not a cloud in the sky. And there's probably a bluebird on my shoulder if I bothered to take a look.
- Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984)

Remember that anecdote about Paul writing Hey Jude that went a little something like this:
Paul: “the movement you need is on your shoulder-” don’t worry about that, I’ll fix that line (is trying to impress his writing partner who is slipping farther out of his grip with each passing day)
John: don’t change it! That’s the best line in the song! (Is over analyzing and thinks the song is about him)

Is this a safe space?
I didn't learn the names of the Beatles until this year, I'm twenty.
I used to call them Ringo, Jingo, Pingo, and Gingo. I was unaware that John Lennon was a Beatle.

Thinking about Paul singing in Hey Jude 'take a load off, Fanny, put the load right on me.' Well, that's what John did, so… And love it's linked not only with The Weight by The Band but with Pore Jud Is Daid from Oklahoma! and Save the Last Dance for Me too. And John and Paul arguing with fervency: It's about me! - No, it's about me! Never boring.
