Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021)
Fear Street Part Three: 1666 is a near-enough miss that I'm tempted to call it a hit. While it fails to answer some major questions, features a predictable twist, and ends with a whimper, it does tie this trilogy up nicely.
When Deena (Kiana Madeira) bleeds onto the bones of Sarah Fier, she sees the events that led to her execution in 1666. This history lesson is exactly what she, her brother Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.), and C. Berman (Gillian Jacobs) need to end the Shadyside curse and save the possessed Sam (Olivia Scott Welch).
1666 makes a major misstep out of the gate by using actors we saw in the previous films to tell Sarah Fier's story. We already have sympathy towards Kiana Madeira’s Deena, Olvia Scott Welch’s Sam, Sadie Sink’s Ziggy, and Benjamin Flores Jr.’s Josh so casting them again is an easy way to ensure an attachment to the new set of characters. It also choreographs what will happen immediately. The series isn’t going to suddenly show us a villainous lesbian when it spent so much time making us hate homophobic characters. This of course tells us what we've previously learned about Sarah Fier will be wrong and dispels any mystery. It's engaging to a point because you get to learn the truth but I was distracted for a moment by an unintentionally hilarious scene. We meet Fier’s father (played by Randy Havens) and your jaw drops. We never actually see the dad in 1994 but is it possible they're played by the same actor off-screen? I have a hard enough time believing the actors playing the kids are related. Related to him? Impossible.
With the truth fully revealed, we jump back to the present (and its glorious nostalgia-fuelled musical choices). It’s the big showdown with the villain and it's time for some payback centuries in the making. The plan is pretty ingenious all things considered but you want that final note to pack more of a punch than it does.
The disappointment we feel isn’t only from the same killers returning once more (300+ year’s worth of monsters, and we only see two new ones?); it's from the un-answered questions. What have Mrs. Lane (Jordana Spiro) and Ms. Berman been doing for 16 years? They haven't solved the mystery or even attempted to leave Shadyside. If you thought it was because a sinister force poisoned their minds and trapped them in the town - as Pennywise did in It - you’re wrong. With the masked killers and psychos showing up on what appears to be a weekly basis and the tragedies ONLY falling upon Shadyside, we still don’t know why people haven’t just up and left the cursed place. They're small gripes but they add up, particularly when the conclusion proves everyone - both heroic and villainous - is dumb as a blood-soaked bag of rocks. If all it takes to turn someone as normal as Tommy Slater into a mass murderer, why didn’t the one responsible for everything just transform Deena, Josh, and Berman’s to get rid of them? It isn’t a plot hole but no one in the movie even acknowledges this as a possibility and when the movie’s not as smart as its audience, it’s frustrating.
I’m coming down harshly upon Fear Street Part Three: 1666 because the good stuff proves it could've been a game-changer like Scream or Cabin in the Woods. Instead, it's merely a reminder of other movies you will revisit before this one. Then again, a post credit scene hints at more to come, so who knows. (July 18, 2021)

I have really enjoyed watching and ANTICIPATING each one of these films. I've been looking forward to this since I was 11 years old reading my very first #FearStreet novel, "The Knife" during 5th grade math class! So you know how excited I was when I found out that we were getting one film let alone a trilogy! The films are really nothing like the book series. And I'm ok with that. I feel like the universe that the director #LeighJaniak and the writers created could keep going if this were to somehow continue on for us fans while still incorporating some of the book titles. Let's hope! I also need to mention how excellent the continuity is throughout all three films. They really covered everything! I've loved chatting with fellow FS nerds over these films on IG and really getting to know people on a different level. It's been amazing. I'm sad the trilogy is over, but I'm most definitely going to rewatch them all in one sitting. They're really that good! And I'm hoping @netflix gives the fans what they want by creating more Fear Street content! #FearStreet1994 #FearStreet1978 #FearStreet1666 https://www.instagram.com/p/CRaML6In_7djx9JmFVeDja3Eq--N1R9OQNMcLc0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Fear Street 1666 Movie Review
Fear Street 1666 Movie Review
By: Justin Hopkins **SPOILER WARNING** The hype was real going into Fear Street 1666. The third in a trilogy that has been simply blow away expectations by leaps in bounds. Me and Paulie did the reviews on the other two on the Podcast, where we did a bit of speculations on where they were going, but they were just minor. Had no idea on what to expect going in or the feintest idea on where it…

*Review* Fear Street Part 2: 1978
*Review* Fear Street Part 2: 1978
With a quick turnaround after the events of 1994 we must – with no hesitation – brush off our Halter tops, high-waisted shorts, cardigans, and bell-bottom pants as we head back in time to witness the horrifying events that took place at Camp Nightwing in Fear Street Part 2: 1978. The year of a major pop-culture extravaganza that brought the world LaserDisk, Van Halen, and Reese’s Pieces, just…

Every day of this month I will select a horror movie I love. Day 8’s selection for 31 days of Halloween is honeymoon by Leigh Janiak with wonderful performances by Rose Leslie & Harry Treadaway. A perfect and chilling movie that slowly builds from a romance into a nightmare. #arsenicmedia #31daysofhalloween #horrormovies #loveofhorror #honeymoon #leighjaniak #roseleslie #harrytreadaway https://www.instagram.com/p/Borh4dqnuuz/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1406bd27wz1xa

Fear Street Part Two: 1978 (2021)
Fear Street Part Two: 1978 is better than its predecessor. While the characters may seem just as unlikeable at first, you get to know and understand them as time passes. This being the middle of a trilogy means you know how it’ll end but a few curveballs your way keep you guessing. Even if you only felt so-so about Part One, this works as a fun slasher film with a lemon-lime twist.
In 1994, Deena (Kiana Madeira) and Josh Johnson (Benjamin Flores Jr.) ask C. Berman (Gillian Jacobs) for help. She was the only survivor of the massacre at Camp Nightwing on July 19, 1978. What happened that night is the key to saving a now-possessed Sam (Olivia Scott Welch) from the sinister force that lingers over Shadyside.
If you want gore, this movie’s got it. The deaths are brutal and shocking, which makes you worried for the characters who prove themselves to be more realistic than you expected at first. You think Alice (Ryan Simpkins) and her boyfriend Arnie (Sam Brooks) are just there to give the movie an R-Rating and stumble into a situation that’ll get both their heads cut off but they’re quite sympathetic once you get to know them. Their relationship tells volumes about what Shadyside is like, as does the way Cindy (Emily Rudd) and her sister Ziggy (Sadie Sink) deal with their present and future in the town.
Some of the characters are rather broad. More than once, Camp Nightwing is a place where bullies can run around doing whatever they want. Yeah, the camp counselors are too busy having sex and taking drugs to deal with those snot-nosed kids but even so, certain acts of vandalism would have to be dealt with if they expect to get paid! Interwoven with the mandatory scenario which sees campers isolated, then chopped to bits is a continuation of the mystery introduced in 1994. We're getting closer to some concrete answers; you can feel it.
I have to criticize the film’s twist ending. It’s a surprise revelation about the present-day C. Berman that makes no sense, whatsoever and is a sloppy mark on an otherwise well-made horror movie. There are several places where the film might’ve been improved but you overlook them because the characters grow on you, and answers (as well as more questions) begin trickling in satisfyingly. The killers and history of the town are sadistically fun to discover, the performances quite good, the scares genuine, and the characters are great. I’ll even forgive the movie cheating us out of the expected female nudity (seriously, two sex scenes and we don’t see anything?) because it doubles down on the loving shots of the male form.
Fear Street Part II: 1978 does not supplant the best slasher films from the genre’s golden age but it offers up some nice juicy bits to munch onto. The kills might not be as varied as you’d like but instead, they’re more frightening and disturbing than expected. It now comes down to chapter three to bring it back home, fill in the leaks we’ve spotted here and there, and make this a solid trilogy - or just an ambitious effort that didn’t quite pan out. (July 17, 2021)

Honeymoon [2014]
