i really do think there’s a huge disconnect on here w/ people who have never used tiktok as to what it actually is and who actually uses it. the number of people i’ve seen call it a “teen dancing app” is actually insane. it has not been a teen dancing app since i was in high school, around 2016 - 2020. the main communities i saw on a daily basis were 1) black history/anti-racism educators, 2) high school & college teachers sharing in-classroom strategies and frustrations with the education system, 3) local/state political leaders giving real-time updates on behind-the-scenes government decisions, & 4) community activism & leadership. like tiktok is an adult platform. almost every person i interacted with was my age or older. and yes it completely depends on your fyp and how you interact with the app, yes there’s still teenagers and dance videos and literally anything else you can think of. but these communities of adults aren’t insubstantial at all, they have literally millions of interactions on a daily basis. there’s about a million other types of communities that i could name just off the top of my head, because the range of users was SO diverse and thriving. it’s a long-distance community tool, just like any other social media—and honestly much better than any other social media, because it relies primarily on the kindness of strangers. i saw at least 5-10 videos today of queer people in rural areas panicking because they don’t have any access to queer community on any other platform or in real life. and before i end this i do want to say i think tiktok is coming back, i think this is a highly orchestrated political move, etc., but i do know it won’t ever be exactly the same. people are panicking about free speech violations because tiktok was a place where people fucking SPEAK. i have never seen mass mobilization and communication in this same way for as long as i’ve been alive. it is the people’s app, not just a silly teenage thing. if you’re not on tiktok and never have been, please stop talking about it like you know anything at all😭

I've seen a few posts of people from varying us states saying "why is no one talking about x new anti LGBTQ+ bill/law in my state?" and I need you guys to know that unfortunately part of the reason you're not hearing much about your specific state is that it's not just your state. there are currently 321 anti LGBTQ+ bills in the us
Tumblr media
you'll notice that several of these states have more than 10. Missouri and Oklahoma have 31 and 34 respectively. and some of these have already passed or are well on their way. living here has become exponentially more terrifying. and even people in states with 0 bills should be worried because they are absolutely not going to stop at state level legislation, the next step is federal law. it's really time for everyone in the us to be vigilant right now. connect with people in your community and start or get involved in movements for change, starting on a very small local level. I know it gets really discouraging looking at maps like this. you're probably not going to be able to help everyone in every state, but you might be able to make a big difference with your local community

Question: What do you do now?
Response: Flip the pages for her. We are in the zone.
'Oh, Deema, let me get that for you,' you say as you lean over and flip the page for her.
'I haven't known a moment's peace since you came here,' she comments wryly.
You hand freezes over the notebook. Is she not in the zone? But then Deema continues reading aloud and providing characteristically judgemental comments.
She stops mid-sentence halfway down the next page. You think you really did overstep this time until she says, 'I want Reginald.'
Dads and the pets they say they don't want, you think, but bring him from his special heat stone. 'Be a good boy,' you whisper to him.
She folds her hands around him and continues to read. You abandon the idea of making notes on two booklets at once and lose all hope of Deema drinking her tea.
When Deema finishes reading she closes her eyes. You copy out diagrams the best you can - it's one thing to make notes for yourself but a very different thing to make them for someone with handwriting as neat as Dessa's.
You shake out your hand once you're done and move to pick up the booklet you had abandoned - but as if Deema can sense your thoughts she says, 'I'm not reading another word.'
'Ah,' you say.
She strokes Reginald's head and finally slurps down her tea.
'It's cold,' she grimaces.
'Whose fault is that?'
She scoffs and stands up to leave, Reginald still tucked in her arm.
‘So you don’t mind anymore that he’s haunted?’
‘He’s very polite.’ She leaves the room.
--
For a change of scenery you take the booklets and notebook out in the garden. The heat stones keep out the worst of the chill and the little table wobbles with every movement of your arm. There'll be time to fix it later. Reginald, you assume, will be spoiled inside.
Between the wobbling table, the cold, and not worrying about Dessa's judgement, your notes and sketches become considerably messier. But that doesn't bother you.
You flex your hand and pace around the garden. It's been some time since you've properly sat down here and you're only just noticing the new growth budding as winter shifts into spring.

Nothing makes you as aware how shitty our disability access is than being temporarily physically disabled in the way most imagine a physical disability (I have some mild ones).
And I kinda sorta have it worse because I'm on crutches. I don't get the advantage of any kind of rolling.

normally I would just put this in the tags of a critical post to keep it concise, but sadly rbs have been turned off! I guess dogpiling sucks when it happens to YOU, right? anyways,
just wanted to say that, yeah, it's proper fandom etiquette to tag things. even if they are only mentioned and then later confirmed to not actually be happening in the fic. That said ,, and before we forget, it is not a REQUIREMENT. Just as it's not a requirement for fic writers to post and share their products at all. Just as it's not a requirement to read and consume then. When people provide completely free services (like, say, writing, editing, and publishing and entire novel), and it's entirely up to you on whether or not to consume those services, it's a little weird to make extra demands, no? And especially to inflate these demands to the point of character assassination; not only dogpiling on the author, but all of the authors fandom friends, leading them to delete all of their soc med and hard crafted works in the process.
so you didn't like someone's fanfiction. and it was POPULAR fanfiction! that sucks. But arguments about transphobia, racism, pedophilia, etc. have already been well disputed in the very post I can't reblog, and I think it's abundantly clear that the author should not be punished for following established canon (i.e. Claw's canonical torture of children and Toichiro Suzuki's openly proclaimed eugenicist goals in taking over the world for "superior" ESPers) to a logical conclusion and for adding a layer of realism to the work.
It's not their fault you, quite frankly, didn't think very hard about what you saw and understood in both S1 and S2 of mob psycho. it sucks that it makes you uncomfortable. But it's not a stranger's job on the internet to completely wash their works of anything that reflect messy and uncomfortable reality to coddle you, a voluntary consumer of their media. And a fan writer absolutely should not be punished for producing a canon-universe work, when you yourself are a fan of the canon. The fan author, very obviously, does not condone transphobia, racism, pedophilia, or any other accused thing, just by depicting it in their freely made and voluntarily consumed fanwork. Just as ONE, very obviously, does not condone the torture of children, or child abuse, just by depicting it in Claw's organization and in Shou and Toichiro's relationship.
All of what I've said is about Side Quest, but it's absolutely disgusting that for some reason, the backlash over that specific fic went over mere criticisms of the work to harassing the author. Not only this, but to use the final chapter of Side Quest, and all of the produced fan art within it, as a blacklist of Twitter handles and social medias to then ALSO harass the authors fandom friends is purely unacceptable behavior. If you want an author to tag their works better, simply ask them to do so; do not harass them and their friends. If you want your "fandom" and "ship" to stay alive, you MUST learn how to dislike things normally and respectfully; otherwise, how can you expect people to continue to produce novels for free? At a minimum, you need to recognize that your fellow fans are real, live people and do not deserve targeted harassment, and if you truly believe them to be dangerous, contact a moderation team and avoid their fanworks.
on a personal level, I'm offended that you think I, and many others who genuinely enjoyed Side Quest, lack media literacy. I've always been a fan of canon compliant and divergent fics that follow canon implications to their logical conclusions, especially when that involves recognizing the problematic and uncomfortable aspects of reality. You may have watched mob psycho uncritically, but I did not, nor did I read Side Quest uncritically. I'm frustrated that these projections have led to more of my little joys and favorite thought-provoking fic becoming inaccessible to me, but mostly... I'm sad that these authors shared their works while not fully understanding how uncritical, reactionary, and ungrateful their audience truly was.

Hey guys!
I (and another irl friend) am working on putting together a website that overviews all of the individual state laws on service animals since there's a lot of variance (as always) that makes traveling hard especially if you have a SDiT
I'm reaching out here because we've been slowly chipping away at this for the better part of like 2 years? And it's taking more time than we'd like to get it going since we both run and operate our own businesses
If anyone is willing to help that would be very appreciated but also:
I'd love suggestions on the kinds of things that are really important for you to be able to find quickly!
We've decided to highlight the following info in a "quick view" and then everything else will be tucked into its own tab for that state:
SDiT covered or not
Animals that can be used as service animals
Owner training covered or not
Let me know what you guys think!

Is CAA a master plan to remove Muslims from India?
No, the CAA itself is not a master plan to remove Muslims from India. It is a law that provides a path to Indian citizenship for certain religious minorities from neighboring countries. However, concerns have been raised about the combination of the CAA with a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), which could potentially lead to the marginalization of Muslims if they are disproportionately affected by the NRC process.

US Immigration and Customs Laws encompass a complex framework governing the movement of people and goods across the United States' borders. These laws are designed to regulate immigration, prevent illegal entry, ensure national security, and facilitate lawful trade and travel. They cover a wide range of topics, including visa requirements, border security measures, customs duties, import/export regulations, and enforcement mechanisms. Compliance with these laws is crucial for maintaining legal status, preventing unauthorized entry, and upholding the nation's safety and security. Various government agencies, such as the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, oversee the enforcement and administration of these laws.

Right, so what you were trying to ask is ‘what do term limits mean for people who get into politics at a young age regardless of what country we are talking about.’
I really, really want to make it clear here that I am not talking about America specifically. America-specific problems are not counter arguments for my position. I am not interested in have a discussion that is just about America.
‘But what do they do after they hit their term-limit’.
What do they do if they never get re-elected? A term limit is not introducing a new problem. Should we make sure every failed politician can still land a cushy political job just because we want young people to get involved in politics? ‘But what if I don’t get re-elected’ is something every politicians should have to grapple with. It is a risk of their career choice. Young people should not be immune to this.
Former politicians already go into lobbying when they’re done. This is not a problem term limits would create. Nor is it the case that lobbying is immune to legislation. Countries that are not America have different rules around lobbying. Change your lobbying rules too. This is simply not compelling counter argument.
I understand change is scary and huge and takes so much effort. But the implication of this position — that the American lobbying industry cannot be changed — just allows a bad systems to continue being bad.

Changes to Maryland's Blueprint Law- What could those changes be?
Maryland’s Blueprint for Education, enacted in 2021, is a sweeping reform initiative aimed at transforming the state’s public education system over a decade. It focuses on five major pillars: early childhood education, high-quality and diverse teachers, college and career readiness, equitable funding, and robust accountability mechanisms. However, as implementation progresses, changes to this…
