Matthew Tkachuk Daddy Issues primer

1) https://floridahockeynow.com/keith-tkachuk-rips-the-florida-panthers-calls-them-a-soft-team/
“This is do-or-die for the Panthers right now,’’ Keith told First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo. “I watched them the other night and I know I am staying at Brady’s house and Brady’s team played really well. They have some jam and, you know, I am a little disappointed with the Panthers.
“They are a soft team and they are getting everything they deserve right now.” To continue on that point, Keith Tkachuk said for the Panthers to snap their losing streak in Toronto, they need to bring a little more toughness to their game.
“Instead of trying to get autographs on the ice from Matthews and Marner,” he said, “they probably should check them a little harder. Whatever it is, it is disappointing. I know I sound like a frustrated person, but I know every time I come and watch Ottawa, they may not be the most talented team but they’re going to play hard. Perhaps Florida could take a page out of their book.”
2) https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/senators-brady-wins-tkachuk-battle-bettman-hints-lebreton-flats-a-little-small/
There was a “Brady is Better” chant at a game when the two brothers played each other, and Keith was at that game. Some speculate that Keith started it.
3) https://www.bladeofsteel.com/Keith-Tkachuk-explains-why-he-would-not-throw-his-hat-for-his-son-hat-trick-goal-126638
Keith refusing to throw his hat for Matthew’s hat trick, even when Taryn and Brady were also at that game.

[On the family chalkboard in the kitchen] “It’s always like, ‘Happy birthday’ or ‘Welcome home, Brady!’ or ‘Can’t wait for you to leave, Matthew,’” said a chuckling Keith Tkachuk.
xxx
[A little insight into Matthew being the intense one and Brady being easier to get along with]
It’s an interesting snapshot because Matthew, a fiery competitor who was twice suspended by the NHL last season, is smiling, while Brady, a happy-go-lucky personality, is scowling.
“This picture is great because now it’s the opposite,” Keith said.
“That’s so true, so true,” Chantal said.
xxx
Chantal reads everything about her boys, too, noting that she is a subscriber to The Athletic.
“I like it,” she said.
“Except when they gave Brady a bad draft rating,” Keith said.
xxx
Keith then reminded his kids, “You guys better get your butts to the store and get some cards for your mom.”
“Actually, Matthew bought me a Mother’s Day gift this year,” she said.
“He had to have gotten you something that benefited him,” Keith responded. “What did he buy you, like eight beers or something?”
“No, Lululemon shoes,” Chantal answered. “He’s a great gift giver now that he has his own money.”
“It’s the least I could do,” Matthew said.

“He has that face you just want to punch, according to other players,” said his father Keith.
“I’m sure if I played against him, I’d go after him, too.”
“This kid, I find a lot of flaws in his game because I’m his dad, and that’s what dads do.”
“I love the fact that he plays with an edge,” said Dad. “I told him that I’d rather see him sit out a game for being too aggressive than sit out a game because he’s soft.”
6) https://www.bardown.com/brady-matthew-tkachuk-s-parents-explain-why-they-re-happy-their-kids-aren-t-in-the-same-conference-1.1121784
Chantal, by the way, told me she is happy Matthew and Brady are not in the same conference. Keith said: “I’m glad too. I don’t trust Matthew.”
7) https://theathletic.com/1984477/2020/08/10/its-distinctly-matthew-tkachuks-postseason-presence-drawing-rave-reviews/
“Keith wanted Matthew’s coaches to push him as hard they could. He would tell me, ‘You can be more demanding,'” said Granato. “It’s delicate because, as a coach, you have to consider how hard you can push a guy. And you love the guys you can push harder. Those are the guys you fall in love with as a coach. With Matthew? There was no limit.”
8) https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/tkachuk-brothers-vibrant-personalities-stem-from-colourful-st-louis-roots/
Keith said he remembered watching Matthew on the After Hours segment on Hockey Night in Canada as a rookie, conducting the whole interview with his head down.
“I said, ‘What are you doing? Get your head up and talk,’” said Keith.
“But now it’s like this (as he snaps his fingers).
“I watched Matthew interviewed last night and he was pretty good. He adds some normal stuff to it that people like. It’s not about the same answers. He does a good job.”

Q: "What sort of text message do you think you'll get after getting five points against the team your dad works for?"
MT: "Um, I'm not sure, I'm sure he would have, I don't know maybe I'm putting words in his mouth--I'm not even going to say it, what I was about to--but he probably wanted it to be an OT game but for us to play well. Um, I don't know who he wanted to win the OT game but uh, no he, he, it doesn't matter what team he works for but he's obviously my [and] my brother's biggest fan and great mentor and obviously not only him but my linemates and teammates know how much I want to win against those guys, hometown team lots of people watching, same as, we got a lot of guys from Toronto, its like when we go to Toronto we want to win that game for the guys that are from there, tons of people watching so, I don't know exactly what he'll text me. Maybe he went to bed early and I won't even get a text I don't know."

There’s this sculpture on the lebreton flats that I kind of like, which is a roadkill crow made of old tires, which is about environmental risk among other things and it makes it’s point fairly well I think but I’m always bemused when I see it because of where it’s placed. Because it is. between the bike path. and the train. rather than say… in view of literally any road.
and despite this, when it was installed last year someone commented that it was a distraction for drivers

seeing pwhl ottawa play on ice with the 67s logo in the center just make me... justifyably mad. like damn, this city now has FOUR pro or semi pro hockey teams (NHL-Senetors, PWHL-Ottawa, P(provincial)WHL-Lady Senators, and OHL-Ottawa 67s), playing at three different locations, and the NCC is still holding out hope that the Sens will sign on to build that new arena in Lebreton Flats, but until they do, PWHL Ottawa will never have its own home, they will continuously be playing on the 67s ice at TD place, or they will be playing on the Sens ice at the Canadian Tire Center, because well.. they aren't going to join the Lady Sens at the Sensplex, because well..... they aren't sens. AND LIKE.... YEAH, PWHL Ottawa doesnt even have a real logo yet, but... like. GIVE THEM ICE!!!!!!! so HEY SENS, DON'T LEAVE THE NCC HANGING AND SIGN ON FOR THE LEBRETON ARENA!!!!!!! I DON'T CARE HOW LONG IT TAKES, I WANT TO SEE PWHL OTTAWA HAVE THEIR OWN LOGO ON ICE!!!!!

The Missing Canadian Public Transit Connections #1: Bayview Station (OCTranspo lines 1,2) - Taché-Uqo (STO Rapibus, both tramway proposals)
Tumblr media
The Context
The missing line would be a crossing of the Ottawa river in Canada's National Capital Region spanning a length of 1.75km.
On the south side you have OCTranspo's Bayview station, which serves as the main transfer point between the frequent, electric confederation line (lines 1,3 (in 2026)), the still relatively frequent, diesel trillium time (2 (2024)), and the 16 local bus. The actual area around the station is in LeBreton flats area, which is probably Canada's largest urban revitalization project.
On the north side you have STO's Tache-Uqo, which is the final station on the STO's Rapibus BRT corridor (routes 18, 800) as well as serving a considerable number of local busses (26, 29, 32, 34, 40, 41, 45, 47, 55, 59). The area around the station is mostly greenspace, with some single family homes and la Universite du Quebec en Outaouais (a relatively small university)
The History
A connection between the two sites have been long purposed, generally by using the old railway bridge to build the connection across the river. Despite the fact that the rapibus bas built to a point here and the plan to build across the was on the table while planning started on the plan to massively overhaul OC's line 2, the city of Gatineau had actually declined the project, resulting in the bridge being converted to a MUP and the line being built in such a way to make an extension like that hard to create in the future.
The connection almost got a second life as the planning of the Gatineau Tramway (starting construction at some point, maybe) started. Before the MUP plan was finalized the idea was floated to terminate the Tramway at Bayview using the old rail bridge. This proposal was shot down by the city of ottawa who claimed that this could overwhelm Bayview station (it would not) and the bridge was taken off the table. The optimal route for the tramway was ultimately decided to be building a second downtown LRT tunnel parallel to the OTrain tunnel, we will see if this proposal is still the plan when they eventually decide to talk to the public.
How might the connection be built
At this point it seems like it just won't be. Despite speeding up many trips between Gatineau and the quickly developing western bits of Ottawa, inter-provincial politics failed the idea and the NCC did not do much to help. However, lets look at how it could be built anyways.
Rail
The line could be built as a future extension of either the Tramway or Trillium line, however seeing as the old bridge is no longer an option due to it being converted to a bridge the project would be significantly more expensive. If this was going to happen I would say the most likely scenario is that it would be built along with the conversion of the rapibus corridor to rail (which is the plan but it seems a long way out)
Aerial Tramway
This has never been proposed as far as I'm aware but could be reasonable. It would likely be cheaper to build due to the fact that it's not a bridge and could be used to generate more revenue for both agencies. If made so that it has a higher fare but is included in a monthly pass and fare-capping it could also be used as a tourist attraction of some kind? I haven't put a ton of thought into it because I see it as very unlikely.
Tumblr media
(View from the bridge, potentially leading itself to being a tourist attraction)
Monorail
This isn't the US this would not even be proposed tbh
Conclusion
This this connection may have had a future at some point in our history, the shortsightedness of both involved cities have kinda screwed up any potential of it happening :/
Also, I don't know how to tumblr

Top Places to visit in Ottawa, ON
Ottawa is one of the most beautiful cities in Canada, with a lot to offer. Ottawa is home to some of the country's most famous landmarks, including Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal. It has many attractions that make it worthwhile to visit, such as the ByWard Market and National Gallery of Canada. Here are five places in Ottawa worth seeing:

Canadian War Museum
The Canadian War Museum is Canada’s national museum of military history and one of the world’s most respected museums for the study and understanding of armed conflict.
Tumblr media
The Museum traces its origins back to 1880, when it consisted primarily of a collection of militia artifacts. The Museum opened at its new location on the LeBreton Flats site in downtown Ottawa on May 8, 2005. Its opening not only marked the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe (V-E Day) but also the 125th anniversary of the Museum itself. Since its opening in 2005, the Museum has welcomed approximately 500,000 visitors every year.
The Museum’s exhibition galleries and public programs have been designed to emphasize the human experience of war. The Canadian Experience Galleries present the military history of Canada from earliest times to present day, as well as Canada’s history of honouring and remembrance. Each gallery highlights defining moments in Canada’s military history and the ways in which past events have shaped the nation.
The Museum’s collections are among the finest military holdings in the world, including rare vehicles, artillery, uniforms, medals, personal memoirs and 14,000 works in the Beaverbrook Collection of War Art. In total, the collection comprises more than 3 million artifacts, specimens, works of art, written documents and sound and visual recordings. The Military History Research Centre houses the George Metcalf Archival Collection and the Hartland Molson Library. These extensive collections of primary and secondary research material document Canada’s rich military history.

Day 8: Embrace Beauty
Lebreton I am writing about the Trappist monk, Christophe Lebreton today and reading again his diary. The mundane annoyance at a flat choir and lack of water is dovetailed with a deep theological reflection on Psalm 23. A simple life exposed to horrors of war ultimately dying after being kidnapped. In his poems I find rest, the experience of reading them aloud brings something of the essence of…

Ryan Reynolds is back in Ottawa as he continues his efforts to buy the Ottawa Senators. The Deadpool star posted a photo on Instagram by Mayor Mark Sutcliffe on Thursday morning, taken at the mayor's office.
Also in the photo: Chris Bratty, the president of Remington Group. Reynolds has aligned himself with the Toronto-based real estate developers in their bid for the team.
"It was great to welcome Ryan to Ottawa City Hall, and it's great to have him in our city," Sutcliffe said about the meeting with Reynolds and Bratty.
"I'm grateful for the fact that he has an interest in the Ottawa Senators and an interest in investing in our I think that's a really great sign of where the team and our community are and where we're going, that we're able to attract that kind of interest."
Reynolds and Bratty also met with National Capital Commission CEO Tobi Nussbaum at the NCC headquarters. Bratty and senior Ottawa Senators officials, including president of business operations Anthony LeBlanc and vice-president of business operations Chris Phillips, were spotted leaving the National Capital Commission headquarters on Elgin Street during the lunch hour. Reynolds is believed to have exited the NCC building through a side door to avoid the media on Elgin Street and was seen walking into a downtown hotel a few minutes later.
"As part of the ongoing process, we made ourselves available to answer questions the shortlisted groups of potential buyers of the Ottawa Senators may have," the NCC said in a statement.
"Our CEO met with representatives of The Remington Group today, including Ryan Reynolds. We answered their questions on the Memorandum of Understanding with Capital Sports Development Inc. and the Building LeBreton project."
Sutcliffe said the meeting at Ottawa City Hall focused on the future of the team and the city. "We walked about the Senators and about the opportunity for this not to just be about a hockey team, but about the entire community," Sutcliffe told CTV News Ottawa.
"You know what happened to the soccer team community and transformed that community. He talked about the potential for the Senators to be a global brand and for this to be the beginning of something for our community. So that's very exciting."
Reynolds and his colleagues are expected to attend commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed earlier this week during his visit to Ottawa that there are about a half-dozen groups still in the running to buy the club.
The various groups have been conducting site visits to Ottawa past week, including meeting with the senior Senator's staff and surveying the land at LeBreton Flats that the National Capital Commission has set aside for a new arena.
Reynolds also took in a game at the Canadian Tire Centre in November, shortly after he announced his intention to buy the team. Sutcliffe notes Reynolds and Bratty are one of several groups bidding for the club, and he will meet with any potential bidders to answer questions.
"We're ready to work with whoever the eventual owner of the Senators is to make sure that the team is successful and that it's good for our community," Sutcliffe said.
Bettman was asked about Reynolds' interest in the team at a news conference at the Canadian Tire Centre. "Ryan believed it was important to connect with a builder that he believed would be a good match for him," he said. "He wants to see his bid through, and I respect his view of the process. He wants to take it from beginning to end."
