I hope it’s cold where you go

Far far away where you can’t hear me cry

I hope you sit in your cold, lonely ice palace and think of the sun you forcibly shut out

In exchange for a place that provides you no warmth, no comfort

And when you spend another night shivering in the room you built

The song of tiny frogs and the sway of the palm trees a distant memory you long for

You remember that you packed your bags, convincing yourself you were alright with the cold

You bit frozen fruit because you decided that even paradise wasn’t good enough

But the only thorns that grow are the ones you planted yourself

You’ll tell everyone you were shut out

Dear Charlie,

begging for attention is the only thing I’ve been taught how to do at my core

to love people completely and with behavior regulations, under the assumption that it would mean they’ll have to love me back

for one of first time, in the grueling completion of development my prefrontal cortex if trudging through, I messed up

I loved too loud, and with too many thorny walls disguised as lush padding to rest on

like a venus fly luring lovers to their doom

I had finally found one I really liked

and maybe if I had been more patient

played the little games you’re supposed to play in love

maybe I could have won for once

but instead I made us both losers and blamed the other party, apologizing for it too little too late

now I await the final blow, the knight pinned to slay his unrelenting dragon in the shape of a 24 year old girl who clearly needs therapy

and I handed him the dagger meant to be plunged through my heart

I can’t help that little hope he won’t, laying at the bottom of Pandora’s box, tired yet restless, achy, a pain to even exist

but I must apologize to the little one inside me who still thinks everyone will forgive her for her angry tears, she lies under the heel of my shoe, begging me to trust her, but I can’t, I can’t hope a childish apology is all it takes this time

because he’s just a boy who owes her nothing

who would be better off finding love that doesn’t have old live wiring sticking out each direction he turns

and in the long run, maybe I’m better off if people stop forgiving me too
