Farming
High-rolling lawyer James Christophers is a name partner in a prestigious firm, specializing in liability cases for pharmaceutical clients. He is known for his handsome, muscular appearance and confident attitude. Despite his tight schedule, which includes early morning workouts and back-to meetings-back, James enjoys the city and life his spends weekends at bars gay, always with a new boyfriend in town.
Tumblr media
Recently, James inherited a vast farm in the middle of nowhere in Northeast Ohio from his late uncle. As he was married to his mother's sister and childless, James is the sole heir. Although James flies to the farm in the company jet during weekends, he finds the intensity of combining the farm and his city life overwhelming.
Tumblr media
It is during one of these visits that he meets Jackson, his neighbors' 20-year-old son. Jackson, who prefers to be called Jackie, reveals that he is on the brink of losing his wrestling scholarship if he doesn't win his next match.
Tumblr media
In a surprising turn of events, James proposes a deal to Jackie. If Jackie loses the match, James will pay for his last year of tuition In return, Jackie agrees to work on the farm during his free time while attending school. Unfortunately, Jackie loses the match and immediately starts working on the farm. The initial weeks prove to be challenging as he tackles manual tasks such as harvesting and yard work, providing enough physical exercise to maintain his muscular physique. As the holidays approach and there is less work to do on the farm, Jackie realizes he has gained weight due to his continued wrestling diet.
Tumblr media
In the spring, James visits the farm and unveils his plan for a flourishing agricultural business. He introduces a new fertilizer for wheat and corn, promising faster growth and larger yields. Although it is not yet available on the market, James decides to conduct a trial season. The whole village becomes interested, and James offers to share the results after the next harvest.
Even though there is a lot of hard labour Jackie keeps eating like he did as a wrestler, during the summer, Jackie continues to gain weight, reaching a staggering 260 pounds.
Tumblr media
Also James sees his weight climbing. Despite the weight gain, the crops thrive, and James seizes the opportunity to sell his shares in the law firm and invest the money in expanding his farming business. The town becomes dependent on James for their seed supply, and he even keeps some wheat for the local bakery and corn for his own livestock.
Tumblr media
Eventually, Jackie graduates and secures a job at a real estate company out of state. This leaves James in need of a solution the to farm work. He finds Danny, the son of a local baker.
Tumblr media
Though Danny lacks ambition, he possesses a strong work ethic. Unfortunately, working alongside this young man becomes detrimental to James' fitness goals, as he gains weight due to the delicious goods from Danny's mom she prepares everyday for them.
Tumblr media
Desperate to lose weight, James spends two months at a fitness resort. Upon his return, he successfully sheds the excess fat and gains some muscle, resulting in a weight of 205 pounds.
Tumblr media
However, he quickly gains weight yet again after consuming too many pastries from the bakery, reaching 237 pounds. Concerned the about rapid weight gain, James reaches out to his previous clients for the trial reports, only to discover that the hormones in the seed additives cause an increase in appetite and muscle growth, as well as the faster storage of fat in humans and animals.
Tumblr media
Faced with this startling revelation, James contemplates his options. After studying the fine prints he realizes that he is legally protected and not liable for the consequences of the seed additives. Unsure whether to inform the baker or Danny's mother, James decides to continue with the next season, planning to visit a fitness resort as soon as the seeds are planted. However, amid the increasing demands of his growing business and the rapid weight gain of his animals, he struggles to find a solution for his own weight.
Frustrated, James strikes a deal with Danny. In exchange for not revealing James' secret of not eating, to his mother, he pays Danny a bit more. Danny agrees to eats both his and James’ food his mother baked. Weeks and months pass, and James remains unable to lose the weight. Without the motivation of his previous lifestyle, he is less concerned about his appearance.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Danny's newfound popularity because of his new size leads him to overeat even more from his mothers goods.
Tumblr media
After a year, Danny has gained an astonishing 220 pounds of pure fat, reveling in his newfound sense of power and masculinity. In town, he becomes popular among girls who appreciate his larger frame. However, the consequences of his actions, as well as his increasing weight, continue to unfold.

The Donald Trump hush money trial starts today in NYC.
Jury selection is the first order of business. In normal trials that may take a day or two. With Trump's legal foot-dragging, that could go into weeks.
There had been some doubts about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's approach to this case. There is some new ground here. But Slate's Mark Joseph Stern, an attorney who initially had some reservations about the prosecution, is now "fully onboard" with it.
Over the past year, though, I have realized that my initial doubts about Bragg’s indictment were misplaced. It now seems clear that Trump’s New York trial, slated to begin this week, will be the former president’s only criminal trial before the November election. The other three strong indictments against him in other jurisdictions have unfortunately been delayed by a corrupt judge, a foot-dragging Supreme Court, and a district attorney’s questionable conduct in an already complex case. This, combined with Bragg’s excellent pretrial briefing, has substantially strengthened the case for this prosecution. It is important to American democracy that Trump be forced to defend at least some of his alleged criminal conduct before a jury of his peers in advance of Election Day. [ ... ] Shortly before the 2020 election, Trump wanted to kill a story about his alleged affair with Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress. So he allegedly directed his longtime fixer Michael Cohen to pay off Daniels, through a shell company, for her silence. Afterward, Trump funneled $420,000 to Cohen in installments. But he allegedly concealed the payments by listing them as legal expenses for a retainer that did not exist. Last year, I was uncertain whether this scheme, while sordid, rose to the level of a felony offense. I am now convinced that, if proved that he took these actions, it surely does. The falsification of business records is, by itself, a misdemeanor under New York law, but it’s a felony when it’s done with the “intent to commit another crime or to aid or conceal the commission thereof.” In his indictment, Bragg claims that Trump lied about the payments with the intent to violate election law, which is what elevates the crime to a felony. Initially, I was suspicious of this theory; what election law, exactly, was the former president attempting to violate? The district attorney’s initial statement of facts was hazy on this crucial point, raising the possibility that he couldn’t tie the underlying fraud to a state or federal statute. Turns out he could. Bragg has argued, convincingly, that the former president intended to violate at least two election laws—one state, one federal. First, Bragg asserted that Trump and Cohen ran afoul of the Federal Election Campaign Act by making unlawful campaign contributions (in the form of a payoff) at the direction of a candidate (that is, Trump).
As a criminal defendant, Trump has to be in court for the trial. And except for holidays, court will be in session four days a week.
So Trump will be in Lower Manhattan quite a bit for the next couple of months. The New York County (Manhattan) Courthouse is at 100 Centre Street. And he owns a major property at 40 Wall Street (modestly called The Trump Building) where he might occasionally be seen. Google Maps puts the walking distance between the two locations at 0.8 miles (1.28 km). So if you're tempted to exercise your First Amendment right to express your opinions to Trump...

The World Health Organisation’s new guideline project for transgender health has ignored the intense international debate about youth gender medicine and overlooked key reformist experts, according to the prominent American gender clinician Dr Erica Anderson.
“[The WHO] seem to be oblivious to the issues with transgender healthcare, particularly as they are playing out in the developed world,” she told GCN, adding that the agency had failed to draw on the expertise of leading clinicians who come informed by systematic reviews of the evidence base.
Dr Anderson, a “gender-affirming” clinician and past president of the United States Professional Association for Transgender Health, said none of the 21 panel members chosen by the WHO to develop the new guideline seemed qualified to address the issue of social influence as a factor in the explosion of trans and non-binary identities.
“Social media and peer influence have had a huge impact upon the rise in minority sexual and gender identities,” she said.
“Previous research done on prior cohorts of youth cannot account for the rise in such identities. We may need a new biopsychosocial epidemiology in this social media era.”
The WHO’s panel is due to make crucial decisions about development of the guideline at meetings in Geneva on February 19-21.
One of the expert clinicians overlooked by the WHO, Finland’s Professor Riittakerttu Kaltiala, an early adopter of paediatric gender transition and now a reformist critic, said she was “really worried that the WHO—which should represent responsibility for the health of all people—appears to have committed itself to a fully political initiative promoting treatments based on no evidence.”
“The WHO initiative openly seeks to promote medical gender reassignment, not to find out what is [the quality of the] evidence base, in the best interests particularly of adolescents who, in increasing numbers, problematise their gender.
“Several countries have carried out their own systematic reviews after Finland did so in 2019-2020, and all have concluded that particularly the gender-identity based, body-modifying medical treatments on minors have not been researched appropriately, lack evidence of beneficial effects and have great potential to harm.”
Professor Kaltiala told GCN that the WHO “should seek to balance this overheated and over-politicised field of medicine, not go along with political initiatives. Medicine must be based on science, not on politics.”
On December 18, the WHO announced the guideline project and the final seven members of the panel. Public comment on issues such as conflicts of interest affecting panel members ends on January 8.
A near identical announcement of the WHO project—together with biographies of the first 14 panel members—was issued on June 28, also with a short period for public comment. Both announcements came during holidays in affected parts of the world.
Trans rights activists should “get ahead of the government agenda and the media story” by early intervention in policymaking, according to a notorious 2019 report spon.sored by queer lobby IGLYO, the Thomson Reuters media foundation and law firm Dentons.
The report also warns activists to limit “press coverage and exposure” because it seems that “public campaigning has been detrimental to progress, as much of the general public is not well informed about trans issues, and therefore misinterpretation can arise.”
“It has become a throwaway line in some media coverage of transgender care in the United States that even liberal European countries are restricting care for transgender children. But this is a misleading notion. No democracy in Europe has banned, let alone criminalised, care, as many states have done in the US. What has happened is that under increasing pressure from the right, politicians in some countries have begun to limit access to certain kinds of treatment for children…”—Journalist Lydia Polgreen, opinion column, The New York Times, 1 December 2023
“Polgreen is repeating [misinformation in The Times] about what’s motivating European health systems to restrict kids’ access to gender [prescriptions]. It’s not ‘pressure from the right,’ it’s [systematic] reviews of the evidence finding it too weak to justify high risks, e.g., to brain [development], sexual function, fertility.”—Journalist Jennifer Block (author of the BMJ investigation feature on the rise of youth gender dysphoria), tweet, 31 December 2023
Who’s pushing back?
The new WHO guideline is to cover “gender-affirming care, including hormones” and “health policies that support gender-inclusive care”, among other aims such as “legal recognition of self-determined gender identity [known as self-ID].”
The timing and activist language of the WHO announcement, together with the makeup of the panel membership, have mobilised organisations and individuals worried about the international spike in medicalised gender change that disproportionately affects teenage girls who present with atypical gender dysphoria.
A fast-growing petition calls on the WHO to cancel next month’s meetings in Geneva; deal with conflicts of interest and bias affecting the guideline development panel; consider hiring an independent methodologist; and include expert members alert to the potential harm of gender-affirming interventions, as well as detransitioners.
At the time of writing, the petition had more than 5,000 signatures, including many health professionals, as well as detransitioners and LGB groups critical of Queer Theory-driven trans activism. Also signed up is the LGBT Courage Coalition, which was founded by gender clinic whistleblower Jamie Reed and trans man Aaron Kimberly.
“The current panel is highly biased in favour of ‘gender-affirming’ approaches, with an absence of critical perspectives,” says the petition, which was reportedly organised by an informal coalition of those concerned about the safety of the gender-affirming model.
The petition says: “The majority of the [WHO] panel members have expressed strong views in favour of hormonal and surgical interventions for transition, dismissed known and potential risks associated with these interventions, and denigrated psychotherapeutic approaches as [unethical] ‘conversion therapy’.”
“The panel does not include any experts in child and adolescent development or any critics of the affirmation model. Detransitioners and desisters are also excluded. Given the panel’s composition, there is strong reason to believe that the guideline will be similarly biased.
“The final composition of the panel was only announced on December 18 but, according to the WHO, this group will evaluate the evidence and formulate recommendations across a range of topics including healthcare, clinician education, health policies, and laws by February 21.
“To call this a rushed procedure would be a dramatic understatement. Compare this to the process embarked upon by the Cass Review in the UK, for example—a multi-year effort to address the health care needs of just one patient demographic (under-18s) within a single country (England).”
Video: ‘One of the people on that [WHO] panel has said we should be stopping all children’s puberty, we should give all children puberty blockers, so that they can make a decision, when they are old enough, what [gender] they want to be’—Helen Joyce of the group Sex Matters; from the 4:06 time mark

No panacea
A 2023 study by Professor Kaltiala and colleagues using a Finnish healthcare register to follow up patients after gender reassignment delivered results contradicting the familiar claim that the mental health problems of troubled young people will resolve after medical transition.
“The number of people contacting specialised [gender clinics] has increased vastly since the 1990s… and their mean age has become steadily younger,” say the authors of the paper in the journal European Psychiatry.
“Along with this, their needs for psychiatric treatment have increased. Both before and after contacting [the clinic], they present with many more common psychiatric needs than do their matched population controls, even when medical [gender reassignment] interventions are carried out.
“Among people seeking [gender reassignment], psychiatric needs have to be carefully assessed and addressed… This vastly increased pursuit of [gender reassignment] with increases in psychiatric comorbidities warrants cautious assessment of the timeliness of medical [gender reassignment] and of other [non-gender] treatment needs that may be more urgent.”
The WHO’s statement says its “new guideline will provide evidence and implementation guidance on health sector interventions aimed at increasing access and utilisation of quality and respectful health services by trans and gender diverse people [Emphasis added].”
Asked about criticism of the guideline project, a WHO spokesman said “this is a notice phase for the Guideline Development Group [or panel] process, so WHO can solicit feedback”.
“All views will be weighed on the composition of the GDG as part of the guideline development process,” he said.
He said WHO guidelines were “always based on balancing of available evidence, human rights principles, consideration of harms and benefits and inputs of end users and beneficiaries.”
He told GCN that the WHO’s trans health guideline would be “focused on adults only”. He did not reply when asked for documentary proof of this; the WHO announcements simply refer to “people”.
“It is probable that the few cases currently before the courts in the United States, Australia and elsewhere, will be the beginning of a torrent of malpractice suits against doctors and surgeons given the massive increase in children and adolescents attending gender clinics. The WHO guideline therefore must address comprehensively the issues that medical practitioners should consider, and the precautions they should take, to avoid a conclusion by a court that the doctor has engaged in malpractice.”—Queensland University Emeritus Professor of Law Patrick Parkinson, submission to the WHO guideline project, January 2024
Conflicts aplenty
In its statement of concern about the WHO project, the Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine (SEGM) says: “Since adolescents and young adults are the largest and fastest-growing group of transgender-identified individuals, it is likely that the WHO guidelines will apply to this vulnerable group as a target population.”
SEGM says the language of the WHO announcement “does not appear to be neutral.”
“It states the goal of ‘increasing access and utilisation of, presumably, gender-affirmative interventions by ‘trans and gender diverse people,’ and declares the goal of legal recognition of ‘self-determined gender identity’,” SEGM says.
“This suggests that the decision to promote gender transition in the respective societal arenas (medical, policy, legal) has already been made before the group has even met to review and interpret the evidence—a step that must both precede and inform the guideline recommendations.”
SEGM says that “even a cursory review” of the guideline panel membership reveals multiple conflicts of interest, including authorship of past papers that would have to be assessed by the panel; membership or past leadership roles in gender-affirming lobby the World Professional Association for Transgender Health; intellectual bias towards gender affirmation; and a record of strong opinions on issues relevant to the guideline and its evidence base.
As an example, SEGM cites a claim by an Australian member of the panel, Teddy Cook, who is a trans man and former vice-president of the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPATH). He is also director of LGBTQ+ Community Health for ACON, the former gay rights lobby responsible for the TransHub website.
In 2021, Mr Cook wrote: “The actual side effects of gender-affirming medical care, for those who can access it, include a significantly improved quality of life, significantly better health and wellbeing outcomes, a dramatic decrease in distress, depression and anxiety and a substantial increase of gender euphoria and trans joy... We are not at risk of harm by affirming our gender.”
This is a mere opinion unsupported by the evidence, according to SEGM. (GCN sought comment from ACON and Mr Cook.)
AusPATH has been critical of the Cass review for “questioning an affirmative approach to gender-affirming care”. The AusPATH board says it does “not support ‘exploratory therapy’ which is often used as a euphemism for conversion therapy.”
“[Given the long waiting list, we] prioritise young people who are in the youth forensic system, young people in out-of-home care and young people who are from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities”—Australian psychiatrist Dr Tram Nguyen, co-head of the Royal Children’s Hospital gender-affirming clinic, media interview, The Age, 30 December 2023
Blots on the escutcheon
Gender-affirming clinician Dr Anderson said she was worried about the WHO making “a new unforced error regarding transgender healthcare” and cited the agency’s “tarnished reputation” after the Covid pandemic and recent scrutiny of its record in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
“Unlike with Covid and HIV/Aids, we have no virus nor well-documented aetiology [for gender dysphoria],” she told GCN.
“The tools of epidemiology and virology will not yield immediate answers on how to address growing controversies with gender-questioning youth.
“Blistering hot disputes over self-ID [gender] have spilled over into major institutions like schools, prisons, sports, and the healthcare delivery system.”
Dr Anderson said it was the WHO that had “set this in motion [by] moving trans identification, as ‘gender incongruence’, out of psychiatry over to sexual health [in the agency’s diagnostic manual the International Classification of Diseases, ICD-11].”
“While this step is a laudable improvement in depathologising trans identities, the hard work of applying such a change across society and its institutions remains to be done.
“I’m deeply sceptical that, without taking time to think, the WHO can do what needs to be done, let alone win support across the world.
“I try to help gender-questioning people every day. I’ve been concerned about the disputes and controversies for years. Now I’m worried that the WHO will make a mess of it.”
“In working with minors, the affirmative approach that I’ve always used involves a lot of mental health therapy, assessment, exploration to really individualise the treatment to the specific young person, to involve the parents in the process, to look through a developmental lens, to really understand all the other complex factors, and the medical [option] was a part of it, if and when it was appropriate for that individual child, but in my experience over the years, it wasn’t always the main focus.”—Dr Laura Edwards-Leeper, who was the founding psychologist at the Boston Children’s Hospital gender clinic, The Umbrella Hour podcast interview, December 2023
Missed opportunity
Dr Anderson noted the absence from the WHO guideline project of leading reformists of youth gender care such as the United Kingdom’s Dr Hilary Cass, Finland’s Professor Kaltiala and Sweden’s Professor Mikael Landén; each being guided by systematic reviews of the (weak and uncertain) evidence base.
To this list Dr Anderson added America’s Dr Edwards-Leeper, Dr Scott Leibowitz and herself as clinicians “at the forefront of youth gender issues” but overlooked by the WHO.
In The Washington Post in 2021, Drs Edwards-Leeper and Anderson, both clinical psychologists who use the gender-affirming approach, expressed concern about a surge in cases of rushed medicalisation of troubled minors without careful exploration of their non-gender problems.
That same year, Dr Anderson talked to journalist Abigail Shrier, author of the book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters, about her concern that today’s teenage female patients might need a different therapeutic response than the classic male patients with onset of gender dysphoria in early childhood.

i. biography. ii. statistics. iii. connections.
NAME / Saul Elisha Weissberg AGE / 52, born on November 23rd, 1971 GENDER & PRONOUNS / Cis man, he/him ORIENTATION / Bisexual MARITAL STATUS / It's Complicated Single, divorced x3 HOMETOWN / Manhattan, New York City, New York RESIDENCE / Oak Gardens, Blue Harbor, Illinois as of 2021 OCCUPATION / Family Law Attorney specializing in divorce at the Weissberg Law Firm
SUMMARY,
trigger warnings — parental death, drugs mention.
Grew up in a very successful family with two parents and a twin brother. The lineage of the Weissbergs includes many doctors, lawyers, professors, and even a senator or two. That meant Saul had a lot to live up to, which he initially flouted until his father’s death in 1986. After the loss of his father, Saul started to take his future seriously and studied as hard as he could to be accepted into an ivy league school. (Honestly, his family members could’ve bought him into any of them, but he wanted to be accepted on his own merit.)
His hard work paid off and that ivy league school ended up being Columbia University. Out on his own in Manhattan, Saul developed a work hard, play hard philosophy. It was early ‘90s New York City and the c*caine was a-plenty, so you can imagine just how hard Saul played. The only problem was that his brother wasn’t with him, but they needed some independence from each other (and Levi probably didn’t want to witness his twin brother be a ho anyway).
Though he didn’t grow up in a conservative hellhole, at least not as much as compared to other cities in the early nineties, Manhattan was the first time Saul was allowed to experiment not only with drugs and alcohol, but with women and men. All bets were off for Saul, but he still somehow managed to graduate from Columbia with honors and a promising future.
From Columbia University to Columbia Law School: Saul wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and be an attorney just like dad. Family Law particularly interested him due to the amount of money divorce lawyers could earn, and well, he likes to know the tea™ so it seemed a perfect fit. He graduated with a juris doctor, a new wife, and an infant son.
Saul was a natural born shark at his job and a burgeoning workaholic, which led to the failure of his first marriage. Katie took their son, Micah, and moved to the suburbs to raise him in a more stable environment. Saul became a weekends and holidays dad, too busy with work to devote Micah with the attention he needed. As much as Saul loved his son, it was for the best. He learned that he wasn’t suited to be a family man, so when he met his second wife, he stressed he didn’t want to have any more children… unfortunately, all she wanted was a baby, so his second marriage ended in flames just the same.
All of his hard work paid off. He made partner at thirty-two, had more money than he could dream of, a son that idolized him (though Saul didn’t deserve it), and could count himself among the many successful Weissberg men before him. He still believed in the work hard, play hard philosophy, but as he grew older, the nightclubs and dive bars turned into charity galas and country clubs. The people of New York thought of him as sophisticated and Saul earned the reputation of a cutthroat divorce attorney that represented reality tv stars and rich ex-wives.
He loved his life in Manhattan. He loved his job, he loved his rent-controlled penthouse apartment, he certainly loved the money, and even loved the dirty streets of New York. There was no one in the world that was going to convince him to leave. Until, of course, ex-wife the third. They had been married for a few years, (somewhat) happily, but her older sister had moved back to their hometown of Blue Harbor, Illinois. After that, his wife would not stop begging Saul to move out west.
Though he was happy with his life in Manhattan, there were things he wanted to change; he had mentioned the idea of starting his own firm a few times, and it might be nice to live in an actual house where his son might bring grandchildren one day. (Really, he had been living in apartments since George H.W. Bush had been in office!) All facts that his wife exploited in her begging, naturally. Plus, it would make her happy. Happy wife, happy life—despite the thirty long career with evidence to the contrary.
Eventually, he relented, and the couple came to Blue Harbor in January 2021. Unfortunately, their marriage barely survived the move, and didn’t survive him opening his own firm. His work was supposed to be lessened by moving out to Blue Harbor, expecting a lighter workload with a smaller city, but starting his firm made him busier than ever. His wife was happy to be home, but unhappy with her avoidant husband and with her sister constantly in her ear, telling her to leave him. They divorced in late 2022, more acrimoniously than his second wife, but less than his first.
Saul considered going back to Manhattan now that his marriage had ended, constantly complaining about the mountain air and lack of culture and friendly people, but ultimately decided to stay. Having just started his firm, it was successful but still needed room to grow, and he just bought a house in Oak Gardens with the intention to retire in ten years. There was really no other choice, he had to stay in Illinois.
So, that’s what Saul has been doing for the past three years—growing his business from out under the shadow of Heller & Co, trying to avoid his ex-wife around town, and causing as much chaos as he possibly can to entertain himself.
PERSONALITY,
Let’s get this straight upfront: Saul is a messy, messy bitch. He enjoys nothing more than gossiping with the old ladies in town and having his nose in everyone’s business. If you have something going on in your life, he wants to know about it AND give his opinion!!
He is as greedy as he is messy, too. He loves nothing more than making money, having the judge rule in his client’s favor, and wearing designer suits. Unfortunately, his firm is still young, and with (stinky 😝) Heller & Co in town long before Saul moved to town, he’s got a long way to go before his firm is truly successful.
He’s got a natural charm to him that some people percieve as smarmy, others find it attractive. He’s good for a good time, even in his fifties, and while he can be irritating at times, he can also be really funny so no one has murdered him for being annoying yet.
Despite the three failed marriages, he’s a good person to have in your corner as a client or as a friend—he’s a lawyer, there’s nothing he loves more than to win, and if he needs to, he’ll give a verbal lashing like you wouldn’t believe. To put it plainly, he’s a better friend than a husband.
Somehow, he keeps convincing people to marry him. When he wants to be, he can loving and seductive, but he’s emotionally distant and unserious by default. His three decade long career should stop him from ever wanting to get married, but he did genuinely love all three wives at some point in his life. (He was also only ever married to women because it wasn’t legal to marry any of his boyfriends at the time, so maybe he’ll trade in wife #4 for husband #1?) He views himself as a hopeful—but realistic—romantic.
CONNECTIONS,
specific connections,
HIS EX-WIFE #1 / Ketziya 'Terry' Lowenstein, also known as his first foray into marriage and the ex that hates him the most. Most importantly, the mother of his only child, Micah. Saul is shocked by Terry's sudden appearance in Blue Harbor and is open to trying to mend their relationship, though there are three decades worth of hurting between them. Who can never be sure! / @hairpintvrns
HIS EX-WIFE #2 / Tamara Bethell, his second wife and the longest of all his marriages. They had a genial relationship for the most part, but their marriage ultimately ended because she wanted children and Saul was firmly one-and-done. / open
HIS EX-WIFE #3 / Thalia Edwards-Weissberg, or maybe back to Edwards now, is the most recent ex-wife of Saul. Their marriage ended mostly amicably, but there’s still some open wounds between the two. / @edwardsthalia
HIS SON / Micah Weissberg is the only known child of Saul. Their relationship is fraught because Saul and Katie divorced when Micah was very young and she moved Micah out to the suburbs to be raised away from the chaos of the city. Saul wasn’t a very present father, but as of this summer, Micah has come to live in Blue Harbor in order to finish out law school and intern at Saul's firm. / @micahweissberg
general connections,
CLIENTS / Saul is a highly successful divorce lawyer, so if your muse or someone in their life has filed for divorce in the past three years, it’s likely he’s their lawyer. While he specializes in divorce, he practices all areas of family law, so custody disputes, adoption or foster care proceedings, etc. are under his purview! If your muse needed a lawyer and didn’t go to Heller & Co down the street, then it was probably Saul that took on their case! / @just-foster, @liamalexanderr
BEST FRIEND (0/1) / Saul has many friends, but this specific person is his best friend (in Blue Harbor, at least). The person he’d call the moment something interesting happened to gossip about it, the one person he shows some vulnerability to, the one person he divulges all his feelings to, and vice versa!
FRIENDS / Saul is an acquired taste, but he’s a fun guy to have around. If you want to gossip over brunch, dance all night, or have a cry-sesh over wine, he’s your man. / @doctornilaybailey, @elijahfalvey, @thephoebeyates, @katzkitty, @rachelxhan
ENEMIES / On the flip side of that, he can also be a petty enemy. Maybe your muse got a divorce and Saul was representing their spouse, maybe he made a bitchy comment at the wrong moment, maybe your muse doesn’t like his flashy ways, or they just don’t like the cut of his jib. The possibilities are endless. / @theleonardkatz, @theromandaniels, @hairpintvrns (deacon)
ROMANTIC INTERESTS (35+) / There’s a reason he was able to get three different women to marry him across multiple decades, alright? It’ll probably be a casual fling, but knowing his track record, it could lead somewhere serious. / @leonwozniak, @rachelxhan
SEXUAL PARTNERS (35+) / Casual hookups, friends-with-benefits, a situationship, whatever you think your character would be interested in with him. / @hvneymelons (dilara), @rorysanderson (previous one-night-stand)
GO-TO DATE (1/1) / Since he’s trying not to get wrapped up in another serious relationship, he needs a platonic friend to take as a date to town events and fancy dinners! / @katzkitty
EMPLOYEE(S), MENTEE or INTERN / Is your muse thinking about joining the legal profession? Do they want someone to mentor them? Do they enjoy grabbing coffees and gossiping? Saul’s hiring! / @berenicehenry, @isabelguzman, @ophaeliacs (nate)
CHILD FIGURES (2/2) / Saul has a very distant relationship with his son that still lives in New York, but he does have fatherly tendencies within. Since there’s a lot of young characters (meaning anyone under the age of 34 basically since they’re babies in Saul’s opinion lol) in the rpg and I believe Saul is the oldest in the rpg currently, these muses would view Saul as a surrogate father in some fashion. He would view them as a lowkey do-over of the relationship he missed out on with his actual son, so they’d come to him whenever they need advice or borrow some money, etc. I can’t say he’ll be a good influence, but he’ll be an influence nonetheless. Note: these relationships will absolutely 100% be kept completely platonic. / @berenicehenry, @ophaeliacs (nate)
NEIGHBORS / Anyone that lives in Oak Gardens, I’d specifically love to set who lives to the left or right of his property! Any sort of dynamic goes, though I’d imagine he’s not a bad neighbor because he’s rarely home lol. I’d also love for someone to come feed his cats during the day when he’s too busy at work! / @katzkitty, @theromandaniels
and anything else we can think of!! just dm me or ask for my discord!!

Trillions of domestic phone records in the United States are tracked every year under a secretive surveillance operation, WIRED revealed this week. The Data Analytical Services program, which was previously known as Hemisphere, allows cops to request and analyze the phone records of people and others who they communicate with, including those not suspected of crimes. The surveillance system is run by the White House, with telecom firm AT&T providing phone records in response to law enforcement requests.
The crypto world kept tumbling this week. After Sam Bankman-Fried was found guilty at the start of this month, it was the turn of crypto exchange Binance and its CEO Changpeng Zhao to face scrutiny from US officials. The US Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against the company, which accuses it of violating US anti-money-laundering laws and of enabling Iran, Cuba, and Russia to launder dirty money.
If you’re in the US and have some extra time over the long holiday weekend, it’s also worth catching up on Andy Greenberg’s epic tale of the three young hackers twho brought down the internet with the Mirai botnet—and their story of redemption. Then it’s definitely time to log off.
That’s not all. Each week, we round up the security and privacy stories we didn’t report on in depth ourselves. Click the headlines to read the full stories, and stay safe out there.
Google Ups Its Ad Blocker Crackdown
Google makes most of its money from advertising—and it doesn’t like ad blockers, which prevent millions of ads being shown on websites every day. In recent months, the company has been cracking down on ad blockers on YouTube in a big way. But that’s just the start of it.
This week YouTube confirmed it has, in some instances, introduced a five-second delay before videos load if people are using an ad blocker in their browser. “In the past week, users using ad blockers may have experienced suboptimal viewing, which included delays in loading, regardless of the browser they are using,” a YouTube spokesperson told The Verge. The company admitted the delays had been happening after some people on Reddit and Hacker News spotted slow loading times and initially thought it was because of the browser they were using.
The move follows Google announcing last week that it is going ahead with plans to change how Chrome browser extensions operate, which may limit how some popular ad blockers work. Last year the company paused its plans to roll out Manifest V3, the platform that browser extensions work on, after complaints about how it would impact some extensions. As Ars Technica reported, Google is planning on rolling out a revised version of Manifest V3 in June next year. Google says Manifest V3 is designed to make Chrome run smoothly by reducing the resources that extensions can use and improve security. However ad blockers and privacy experts have criticized how the system works and, in particular, changes to the Declarative Net Request API.
Google proposed putting restrictions on this API but has relaxed these somewhat in the new version of Manifest V3. It originally planned to allow browser extensions to make 5,000 content-filtering “rules,” but it has now increased this to 30,000 rules. AdGuard, an ad blocker, has tentatively welcomed some of the revised changes. Elsewhere, uBlock Origin, which uses around 300,000 filtering rules, has created a “lite” version of its extension in response to Manifest V3. The developer behind uBlock Origin says the lite version is not as “capable” as the full version. Meanwhile, browser makers Brave and Firefox say they are introducing work-arounds to stop ad blockers from being impacted by the changes.
North Korea Is Increasingly Launching Supply Chain Attacks
Supply chain attacks, where malware is implanted in a company's legitimate software and spread to the firm's customers, can be incredibly hard to detect and can cause billions of dollars in damage if they’re successful. Hackers for North Korea are increasingly adopting the sophisticated attack method.
This week Microsoft revealed it has discovered the hermit kingdom’s hackers implanting malicious code inside an installer file for photo and video editing software CyberLink. The installer file used legitimate code from CyberLink and was hosted on the company's servers, obscuring the malicious file it contained. Once installed, Microsoft said, the malicious file would deploy a second payload. More than 100 devices have been impacted by the attack, Microsoft says, and it has attributed the attack to the North Korea-based Diamond Sleet hacking group.
After details of the attack were revealed, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre and the Republic of Korea’s National Intelligence Service issued a warning saying that North Korea’s supply chain attacks are “growing in sophistication and volume.” The two bodies say the tactics support North Korea’s wider priorities, such as stealing money to help fund its ailing economy and nuclear programs, espionage, and stealing tech secrets.
Planes Are Being Disrupted by GPS Spoofing and Electronic Warfare
Some flights have had to change course or lost satellite signals in midair due to electronic warfare, The New York Times reported this week. The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza have seen GPS jamming and spoofing technologies interfere with the daily operation of flights in and around the areas. The incidents, so far, have not been dangerous. But they highlight the increase in electronic warfare capabilities—which seek to interrupt or disrupt the technologies used for communications and infrastructure—and how the technology needed to launch them is getting cheaper. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, electronic warfare tactics have become increasingly common on both sides, as drones being used for surveillance and reconnaissance have had their signals interrupted and rockets have been sent off course.
Russian USB Worm Spreads Beyond Ukraine’s Borders
Gamaredon is one of Russia’s most brazen hacking groups—the hackers have consistently attacked Ukrainian systems. Now one piece of its malware, a worm that spreads via USB stick and is dubbed LitterDrifter, has spread internationally. The worm has been spotted in the US, Hong Kong, Germany, Poland, and Vietnam, according to researchers at security firm Check Point. The company’s researchers say the worm includes two elements: a spreading module and a second module that also communicates with Gamaredon’s servers. “It’s clear that LitterDrifter was designed to support a large-scale collection operation,” the Check Point researchers write, adding that it’s likely the worm has “spread beyond its intended targets.”

priscilla comes a very high profile family where she's from in memphis, tennessee. her family founded one of the first law firms to ever hit Memphis and she grew up with a very lavish lifestyle, one that her father always wanted for his only daughter. however, things haven't always been easy for the southern belle. all her life she was always told what she had to be, nobody ever giving her the chance to tell them what she wanted to be, it was expected of her and her brother to continue the family practice, her brother proudly does so but priscilla always desired something more.
when she was in high school, she was always the party girl, always out late at night and always bringing home men that were more than undesirable for her parents, priscilla wasn't a stable girl but she was a popular girl, head cheerleader, dance team, and prom queen. she even went on to win, miss. tennessee two years running. meanwhile, she was feeling pressure from her parents to be this perfect representation of their family, you know the perfect daughter which was something she knew she could never be.
when it came time for priscilla to graduate high school, she did so on honors despite her "rebellious" ways as her parents put it. she went to school for law initially but that wasn't making her the least bit happy so when she switched majors it made her parents feel betrayed but nonetheless they supported her. After she decided to move and make her own living, her parents are still wanting to support her, paying for her lavish lifestyle, i guess you could call her spoiled but just don't say it to her face.

Simplifying Startup Registration in India
Tumblr media
Starting a business is undoubtedly very exciting. It is further accompanied by many challenges, and the Startup registration of a startup is among the most crucial aspects. Proper registration is what legitimizes your business and opens up doors of privileges to foster it. Let's decode the process of startup registration and see how GTS Consultant could smoothen the course for you in India.
Why Register Your Startup?
Legal Recognition : Through registration, any commercial entity takes on a legal identity which qualifies it to carry out business as per Indian laws.
Credibility : A registered firm is considered trustworthy by customers, partners, and investors. This adds to your professional reputation and brand value.
Access to Incentives : Registered startups get a bunch of benefits from the Indian government through something called the Startup India Initiative, like tax holidays, simplified compliance, and funding opportunities.
Protection of Ideas : After registration, you can safeguard your intellectual property, trademarks, and innovations from infringement.
How to Register Your Startup
Step 1: Decide on a Business Structure
A private limited company is most suitable for startups planning on raising funds and/or seeing the potential for scaling up.
Limited liability partnership (LLP) is a rather flexible structure where personal liability is limited.
In the case of partnership firms, it may be best for small companies that have straightforward operations.
Step 2: Reservation of Name
Pick an attractive, unique name for your business that does not conflict with any existing name. A distinctive name strengthens brand identity and shortens the length of legal disputes.
Step 3: Incorporation
Apply for a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) and apply for a Director Identification Number (DIN).
Submit an online application for name approval via the MCA portal
File for incorporation with the Memorandum of Association (MoA) and Articles of Association (AoA).
Step 4: Register on the Startup India Portal
Visit the Startup India portal and create an account. Provide essential information about your business, including its objectives and activities.
Step 5: Obtain DPIIT Recognition
DPIIT Recognition is a necessary requirement to avail a Startup India benefit; the following documents must be submitted by startups:
Certificate of Incorporation.
Summary of Business Plan or Idea.
Details Regarding Funding, if Necessary.
Intellectual Property Evidence, if Applicable.
Step 6: Ensure Compliance
Stay within norms for labor laws, environmental regulations, and tax filings to avoid penalties.
Benefits of Registering Your Startup
Exemption from Taxes : A startup qualifies for exemption from income tax for three years beyond the date of its formation, as per Section 80-IAC of the Income Tax Act, which gives financial relief to the firm during its infancy.
Access to Funding : A registered startup will have more access to government grants, venture capitalists, and other funding sources.
Relaxation in Compliance Norms : Under the broad umbrella of government initiatives, self-certification will help in compliance with labor and environmental laws.

Comparative Analysis of the 2024 and 2020 Union Budgets for Startups: A Business Lawyer's Perspective
"In a landmark move, the 2024 Union Budget slashes the angel tax, unleashing a new era for Indian startups."
The Union Budgets of 2020 and 2024 have brought significant changes to India's startup ecosystem, as noted by business lawyers and industry experts. Referring to an article by Vaneesa Agrawal, business lawyer and founder of Thinking Legal business law firm, titled "Budget2020: Boost to Start-Up Ecosystem," highlighting the importance of budget reforms for startups, this article builds on this analysis and explores the key differences and their potential impact on the entrepreneurial landscape.
The 2020 Union Budget: Immediate Relief and Digital Transformation
The 2020 budget was crafted against the backdrop of the looming COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on providing immediate relief to startups and accelerating digital transformation. One of the key measures, as highlighted by business lawyers across India, was the extension of the tax holiday for eligible startups until March 31, 2021.
From a business lawyer's perspective, this provision allowed qualifying startups to claim 100% tax exemption on profits for three consecutive years within their first decade of incorporation, provided their annual turnover did not exceed ₹25 crore in any financial year.
Vaneesa Agrawal, a prominent business lawyer specializing in startup law, noted, "The extension on tax holiday offered a crucial financial buffer for startups, allowing them to reinvest profits into growth rather than allocating funds for tax liabilities."
Business lawyers also highlight that the second most significant aspect of the 2020 budget was its emphasis on digital transformation. Substantial resources were allocated to enhance the digital economy, with a particular focus on fintech and digital payment systems.
"This initiative aligns with the government's vision of achieving a $5 trillion economy, recognizing startups as key drivers of innovation and GDP growth."
- Vaneesa Agrawal, Prominent Business Lawyer
For business lawyers in the startup space, this digital push meant an increased focus on regulatory frameworks surrounding digital transactions, data privacy, and cybersecurity. It necessitated a deeper understanding of the evolving legal landscape in these areas to better advise clients navigating the digital economy.
The 2024 Union Budget: Long-term Growth and Sustainable Ecosystem
Fast forward to 2024, and business lawyers see a marked shift in the government's approach. The 2024 Union Budget demonstrates a more comprehensive strategy aimed at creating a sustainable ecosystem for startup growth and innovation.
One of the most significant changes for startups, as most business lawyers note, is the abolition of the angel tax for all classes of investors, effective from April 1, 2024. This move addresses a long-standing concern in the startup community. The angel tax, introduced in 2012 to prevent money laundering through inflated valuations, had inadvertently created compliance burdens for startups, making it challenging to attract investment.
Vaneesa Agrawal, a seasoned business lawyer with extensive experience in startup law, commented on this development: "The abolition of the angel tax simplifies the funding process and is likely to trigger a significant increase in capital inflow from angel investors."
Business lawyers anticipate a potential increase of 30-40% in capital from angel investors. From this Vaneesa Agrawal highlights that this change necessitates a shift in legal advisory services, focusing more on structuring deals and ensuring compliance with other regulatory requirements rather than navigating the complexities of the angel tax.
The 2024 budget also introduced new funding mechanisms and tax incentives for startups operating in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, and clean technology. Business lawyers highlight that such a targeted approach reflects the government's commitment to fostering innovation in sectors critical for India's economic growth and sustainability.
For business lawyers and anyone in the legal industry, this shift means developing expertise in sector-specific regulations and understanding the nuances of intellectual property rights in these emerging fields. It also opens up new avenues for legal services in areas like technology transfer agreements and cross-border collaborations in research and development.
Simplification of Compliance: A Common Thread
Both the 2020 and 2024 budgets recognized the need to reduce regulatory burdens on startups. However, as business lawyers notice, the 2024 budget takes more concrete steps in this direction. It proposes measures to streamline regulatory approvals and simplify income tax provisions related to reopening and reassessment.
For instance, the 2024 budget limits the reopening of assessments to cases where escaped income exceeds ₹50 lakh and restricts the maximum period for reopening to five years. In search cases, the time limit for assessments has been reduced from ten years to six years. Business lawyers say that these changes provide greater certainty and reduce the compliance burden on startups, allowing them to focus more on growth and less on navigating complex regulatory frameworks.
Vaneesa Agrawal, a prominent business lawyer, comments, "The simplification of compliance processes in the 2024 budget is a significant step forward. It allows startups to redirect resources from regulatory navigation to core business activities, potentially accelerating innovation and growth."
Extension of Tax Holidays: Continuity in Policy
One area of continuity between the two budgets is the extension of tax holidays for startups. While the 2020 budget extended the deadline to March 31, 2021, the 2024 budget further pushes this to March 31, 2025. This extension allows newly established startups to benefit from a three-year tax holiday, crucial for those in their early growth stages.
For business lawyers, this continuity provides a stable framework for advising clients on tax planning and structuring their operations to maximize the benefits of these tax holidays.
"This policy continuity provides a stable environment for startups to plan their finances and growth strategies in the crucial early years."
- Vaneesa Agrawal
Conclusion: A Shift Towards Sustainable Growth
In comparing the 2020 and 2024 Union Budgets, we see a clear evolution in the government's approach to fostering the startup ecosystem. While the 2020 budget focused on immediate relief and digital transformation in response to the pandemic, the 2024 budget takes a more long-term view, emphasizing sustainable growth and innovation.
Reflecting on these changes, Vaneesa Agrawal observes, "The 2024 budget represents a paradigm shift in India's approach to startup policy.
The abolition of the angel tax, simplification of compliance processes, and targeted support for emerging technologies in the 2024 budget mark a significant shift towards creating a more conducive environment for startups. These changes not only reduce the burdens on startups but also open up new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Steps To Starting A Tourism Business:
Research & Planning
Before starting any kind of business venture, you must do thorough research into what type of services or products would be best suited for the market in which you plan on operating. This includes researching local regulations and laws as well as understanding customer needs and preferences within the region. Additionally, create a detailed plan outlining your goals and objectives so that you can stay focused throughout each step of launching your new venture.
Obtain Licenses & Permits
Once you have completed your research and planning phase, it’s time to obtain the necessary licenses and permits required by law before beginning operations within the UAE's borders. Depending on where exactly you intend on doing business within this country, different documents may be needed such as trade license applications or foreign investment certificates etc., so make sure these requirements are met before moving forward with other aspects related to running a successful tourist enterprise here.

Investors often diversify their portfolios by investing in stocks listed on multiple international exchanges to gain exposure to different regions and industries.
Criticism of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE)
The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) has faced various criticisms and challenges over the years, much like other major stock exchanges worldwide. Some of the common criticisms include:
Corporate Governance Issues: The TSE has been criticized for perceived weaknesses in corporate governance practices among listed companies. In the past, there have been concerns about the lack of transparency, ineffective boards of directors, and insufficient shareholder rights at some Japanese companies.
Market Volatility: The TSE, like other stock exchanges, is susceptible to market volatility. This can result in sharp price fluctuations and potential disruptions in trading. In particular, the TSE has experienced significant market volatility during economic downturns and financial crises.
Aging Investor Base: Japan's population is aging rapidly, and many individual investors are older. Some critics argue that this demographic shift can affect market dynamics and potentially lead to conservative investment decisions.
Low Liquidity in Smaller Companies: While larger, well-established Japanese companies typically enjoy robust liquidity in their stocks, smaller and less-known companies listed on the TSE may struggle to attract sufficient trading volume. This can result in limited market access and potentially lower valuations for such companies.
Market Regulation and Enforcement: Critics have pointed to instances of market manipulation and insider trading on the TSE. Some have raised concerns about the effectiveness of market regulation and enforcement in preventing such practices.
Dependence on Export-Oriented Companies: The TSE has a significant concentration of export-oriented companies, particularly in industries like automotive and electronics. This can expose the exchange to risks associated with global trade tensions and economic downturns in export markets.
Limited Female Representation: The TSE has faced scrutiny for the lack of female representation on corporate boards and in executive positions among listed companies. Efforts have been made to improve gender diversity, but progress has been slow.
Foreign Investor Access: While Japan has taken steps to improve access for foreign investors, some critics argue that certain regulatory and structural barriers continue to limit foreign participation in the Japanese stock market.
It's worth noting that the TSE, like many other exchanges, has made efforts to address some of these criticisms. Regulatory reforms, corporate governance enhancements, and initiatives to increase market transparency have been introduced over the years to improve the overall functioning of the exchange.
Additionally, the TSE's merger with the Osaka Securities Exchange (OSE) in 2013, which led to the formation of the Japan Exchange Group (JPX), was aimed at improving market efficiency and competitiveness.
Critiques of stock exchanges are not unique to the TSE, and they are often part of ongoing efforts to enhance market integrity, investor confidence, and overall market performance. Regulatory bodies, government agencies, and market participants continually work to address these concerns and strengthen the financial ecosystem.

Tech Shares Experience Decline as China Contemplates Restrictions on Child Smartphone Usage
Tumblr media
Chinese technology shares faced a downturn following a recommendation from the country's cyberspace regulator to limit smartphone usage for children under the age of 18. On Wednesday, companies like Alibaba and video-sharing platform Bilibili witnessed a decline in their share prices, which continued into early trading on Thursday. The proposed law aims to restrict children to a maximum of two hours of smartphone usage per day. This initiative comes four years after the implementation of gaming restrictions for children in the world's second-largest economy. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) is behind the proposed rules, which will also include a ban on children accessing the internet on mobile devices from 22:00 to 06:00 local time. According to the CAC's proposal, industry players, including mobile phone manufacturers, apps, and app stores, will be required to develop a "minor mode" function to set usage limits, varying by age. For instance, children between 16 and 18 years of age will be allowed two hours of screen time daily, while those under the age of eight will only be permitted eight minutes. The proposal is currently open for public feedback. Enforcement of these rules is likely to fall on technology giants, similar to how gaming restrictions were managed in the past, according to Ray Wang, founder and CEO of Silicon Valley-based consultancy, Constellation Research. Though there might be workarounds, such as children gaining access to their parents' devices, Wang suggests that gaming restrictions were generally well implemented. The impact of these developments is evident in the stock market, with Alibaba's shares closing more than 3% lower in Hong Kong on Wednesday, and Bilibili's share price tumbling nearly 7% in the territory. As of mid-day on Thursday, Alibaba's shares were trading around 2% lower, and Bilibili was down by 0.5%. On the other hand, technology giant Tencent's shares, which closed approximately 3% lower, experienced a slight recovery, being 0.1% higher in Hong Kong. China has previously taken measures to address video game addiction, which officials believe negatively impacts children's health. In November 2019, a curfew was imposed on online gaming for minors, prohibiting gamers under 18 from playing between 22:00 and 08:00. Additionally, they were restricted to 90 minutes of gaming on weekdays and three hours on weekends and holidays. More recently, children were banned from gaming for more than three hours per week. These regulatory moves have had an impact on Chinese technology companies, with increased regulations allowing the US to surpass China as the world's largest gaming market by revenue, according to research firm Newzoo.
