India News - A huge accident took place in Uttarakhand around 10:30 AM on Sunday. The glacier collapsed in Tapovan in Chamoli district of the state and fell into the Rishiganga River. This created a flood situation and the dam on Dhauliganga was washed away.

Work is underway on the Rishiganga Hydro Power Project of a private power company in Tapovan and the NTPC project of the government company. The disaster has caused the most damage here.

About 15 to 20 laborers working in the Rishiganga project are reported missing. With this, about 150 laborers are feared dead on the NTPC project. These include 50 workers trapped in the tunnel. Three bodies have been recovered from the project site.

It is a matter of relief that the level of Alaknanda River between Peepal Koti to Chamoli has increased, but the flow has become normal due to widening of the river area. After the accident, the teams of NDRF and ADIRF reached the spot and are carrying out rescue operations.

The incident took place at half past ten in the morning. With the breaking of the glacier, the Dhauli River took a formidable form. On seeing the river, it started to bridge every obstacle coming in the way. By reaching the site of the Rishiganga power project, the river became so vast that it drained the entire dam. All the machinery and people present on the spot got caught in it.

After this, the authorities who came into action alerted Haridwar and the discharge of water from Tehri Dam to Bhagirathi was stopped. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has reached the spot and is monitoring the situation.

The areas along the banks of the Alaknanda and the Ganges have been in panic since the accident. Rafting and boats have been banned in Rishikesh. Not only this, the dam of Srinagar Hydro Power Project has also been emptied, so that the water level of the dam does not rise if the water rises from behind.

3. 10 bodies have been recovered so far

16-17 laborers have been rescued from NTPC tunnel. So far 9-10 bodies have been recovered here. About 20 workers are feared trapped here. Rescue teams are still operating here.

4. Army and Air Force engaged in rescue

Apart from SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, the army has also sent 600 soldiers to Chamoli. In addition, the Air Force has sent three helicopters, including Mi-17 and Dhruv, on rescue missions. The Air Force said that more aircraft would be dispatched if needed.

Having built a portfolio of 35 hotels in cities of religious significance and with more hotels in the pipeline, Tata Group’s Indian Hotel Company Ltd. (IHCL), which runs Taj hotels, among other brands, has identified spiritual tourism as a thrust area to grow its business.

Since spiritual tourism in India accounts for 60% of the total domestic tourism, IHCL has set up hotels at key locations like Tirupati, Varanasi, Amritsar, Madurai and Rishikesh, to name a few.

With this, Taj Hotels is well-positioned to capture the demand at these key spiritual destinations, executives said.

IHCL, with all its brands, is a dominant player in many other cities of spiritual significance including Nashik, Ajmer, Katra, and Dwarka with a footprint of 35 hotels with over 4,000 rooms.

“Religious tourism is often considered the oldest form of tourism, dating thousands of years back. Today, with better infrastructure support, this segment is growing rapidly. Latest Updates - CA Mitesh Hospitality firm Leisure Hotels Group is looking to invest Rs 160 crore to add nine properties across the country to its portfolio by the end of 2021, a top company official has said.The group currently operates 27 boutique properties with around 875 rooms in India."We will be investing Rs 160 crore to add 9 properties across the country by end of 2021. Apart from this, we will also be adding 70 rooms in our existing property in Naukuchiatal during this period," Leisure Hotels Group Director Vibhas Prasad told PTI.Out of the upcoming properties, three will be managed by the group while it will own and operate the rest six, he added."The new properties will be in Greater Noida, Dehradun, Haridwar, Bhimtal, Manali, Rishikesh, Pench and Kanha among others," he said.Asked how the group plans to fund the expansion, he said it will be a mix of debt and internal accruals."Our expenditure is mainly on the properties that we own and operate," Prasad said.Regarding its business model, Prasad said: "We are transitioning from being an asset owning company to an 'asset right' company."Presently Leisure Hotels Group owns 80 per cent of the properties in its portfolio and manages the rest 20 per cent.On being asked about the strategy for future growth, Prasad said: "We are predominantly a domestic hotel brand and have a strong focus on domestic tourists to drive the business."Founded in 1989, Leisure Hotels Group's portfolio currently comprises hotels, resorts, luxury villas and camps. DAY O3 : DELHI – HARIDWAR – RISHIKESH (230 Km, 6 hrs)

DAY O6 : AMRITSAR
