To Be A Celebrity And To Be Applauded For Saying the DUMBEST Things.... by u/Zestyclose-Level1871
To Be A Celebrity And To Be Applauded For Saying the DUMBEST Things.... "It's funny the pedestals we put undeserving people on. Simply because they're rich and famous...."Well said. Lost Beyond Pluto nails Walmart Wallis in a nutshell yet again......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1fsQSI6HHgThat being said, Walmart Wallis' biggest personality flaw is the ongoing war between her mental and corporeal forms of existence. Her 20 something brain has entered the final stage of losing the chronological war with her 40 something body. Her 20 something brain has continuously deluded her self perception as an organic ingénue. Her 40 something body has continuously reminded her of her failed 40x40 bday expose. Which involuntarily set Wallis on her journey towards a midlife crisis and inevitable geriatric club membership by 50 something. The fact she spent her entire life sacrificing her soul to the Fame Monster at the altar of Hollywood A list celebrity. Yet has no professional achievements of note to date. That would validate why the public should fulfill her insatiable narcissistic craving for social recognition and acceptance on a global scale. And so unsurprisingly, has received no celebrity recognition or redemption from the very Hollywood society elites she continues to worship to date. That is the biggest tragedy. This inconvenient war of reality is one her 20 something brain is increasingly losing. As the latest PR fallout over her Nigerian tour has clearly indicated.Despite growing up middle class, Wallis remains completely disconnected from the realities the average person faces today. Especially when she fails at practicing Plain Folk appeal propaganda through her narcissistic lens with gibberish like "I do see ME in you and YOU see ME in YOU".Her ongoing disconnect white knight championing an eco friendly green world. While polluting the planet with her massive jet set carbon footprint. All while lacking any genuine empathy for the daily struggles of the average person living from paycheck to paycheck. And in the case of 90%+ Nigerians (her new national family), this is literally living from mealtime to mealtime. This hypocrisy could've been forgiven. If only she hadn't lacked the foresight to bring all the jam samples she didn't send out to influencers. A couple jars of jam would've gone a fair way in helping out a Nigerian school pantry or two.All of her vacuous platitudes and superficial word salad to date, is a painful indicator of this complete lack of self awareness. And the widening breach between the reality of her 40 something body v. the fantasy of her 20 something brain.... post link: https://ift.tt/rphmMHi author: Zestyclose-Level1871 submitted: June 03, 2024 at 03:37PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. IWD: The Sparking Women Of Afrobeats
It's March again, which means International Women’s Month and another opportunity to celebrate women pushing the boundaries for productivity and creativity in all fields in every corner of the world. In Nigerian music, the last few years have seen a bold contingent of creative women advance the borders of what is possible for women in music, even in Nigeria’s patriarchal society. The music scene is still far from having an ideal balance of male and female stars, but considering the male-orientedness of the industry’s artists and background players, this group deserves even more praise for their ability to rise above all obstacles and occupy the section they do now. In doing so, they become a shining light to women in every field, an encouragement that women can rise to the top and pull down age-long barriers. Here are ten women, cut across generations and genres, who are lighting up the Afrobeats scene in 2024.
Tumblr media
Tems
Tems rocketed to global fame with “Essence” and remained there via collaborations with Drake, Future and Rihanna, and brought her entire discography with her in this terrific journey, as a result of which even her most obscure releases from the past have been showered with millions of streams. But fans rightly want more, and as they await a debut album from the singer that will no doubt release this year, she’s kept them satisfied: “Me & U” and “Not An Angel” released last year, spinning her AfroRnB, Pop and Dancehall influences into spicy mixes, and allowing her balance gracefully on the ledge where she can appeal to both her Nigerian and western audiences. Tems is one of Nigeria's brightest revelations of the 2020s, and her album should confirm her status as a force in world music.
Tumblr media
Tiwa Savage
The No. 1 African Bad Girl ruled African music through the 2010s, and was front and centre of the high-powered, dance-ready movement that we now know as Afropop. Now, she continues to advance Nigerian pop through its Amapiano era, entertaining a new generation with as much vim and vigour as she did with her Pop duo of “Kele Kele Love” and “Love Me, Love Me” over a decade years ago. Her royalty status in African music is beyond doubt, but she continues to prove it anyway, and with last year’s singles “Pick Up” and “Stamina” she kept pace with the rest of the industry, proving that the golden years of her career may actually be in front of her.
Tumblr media
Asa
Asa is by now a household name in Nigerian music, being a practising artist for longer than some of her newest fans have been alive. The honeyed songstress made her breakout in 2007 with her self-titled debut album, the Cobhams-produced ethereal piece that introduced the key parts of her artistry: her melodious voice, guitar-strung melodies and her soulful writing. Seventeen years and 5 albums later, the Paris-born vocalist continues to captivate minds while adapting to changing times in Nigerian music, and her last album, V, highlighted her growth and reiterated her effusive songcraft, tapping into more modern Afropop while holding firm to her sonic identity. With the release of her latest, “Odo”, this year, Asa proves that she still has a lot to give the industry she helped build.
Tumblr media
Yemi Alade
Yemi Alade, the self-styled Mama Africa, has lived up to that moniker in the ten years since “Johnny”, her explosive Afropop banger, announced her to the country and continent in 2014 as an instant star. Apart from her emotive music and its magnetic appeal to the dance floor, she has won hearts across the continent for her energetic performances and her very impressive polyglotism. She has come to represent a symbol of strength, excellence and femininity for African women, and with her latest release, the Mamapiano EP, having arrived in December, she shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Tumblr media
Simi
Simi’s high-pitched, sonorous voice is instantly recognisable for any keen follower of Nigerian music. She made her debut in 2014 via a series of catchy, playful singles—“E No Go Funny”, “Open And Close”, and “Jamb Question” and its Falz-featuring remix, before diving into the romantic depths, a field her vocals were always made to excel at. Her eponymous debut album arrived in 2017, bringing the arc of her introduction to a fitting close, and since its release, it has been an unstoppable upward journey for the songstress. Her most recent offering, To Be Honest, consolidated on her growth even further, as she scripted tales of life, love and friendship into one coherent package, and its reception proves her place in the music scene remains secure.
Tumblr media
Niniola
Nigeria’s queen of Afro-House gets a lot less credit than she deserves, but Nigeria’s Amapiano-directed era, borrowing heavily from South Africa, was foreshadowed by her genre-bending “Maradona” way back in 2017. Two albums, 2017’s This Is Me and 2020’s Colors And Sounds established her position, as she tried her hands on a number of sonic experiments between Afropop, South African House and Dancehall, and brilliantly pulled off most of them. Years later, she remains at the forefront of innovation and genre-morphing in Nigerian music. Amapiano’s saturation in Nigerian music means it is no longer an effective means of standing out, but Niniola’s capacity to execute it with exceptionally high levels of quality means she will never have to be worried about her legacy.
Tumblr media
Teni
Teni, the other half of the Apata singing sisters, is cut from a different sonic cloth. She delights in the tonic flavour of conventional Afropop and its ability to soundtrack the most heartfelt songs. She released a number of tracks between 2016 and 2018 to moderate impact, but it was her breakout single, “Case”, blending tender emotion into fast-spinning beats, that gave Teni her grand introduction as a purveyor of the romantic. Other singles, like the reflective “Uyo Meyo” and “Askamaya” displayed yet another side to her. Her recent album, Tears Of The Sun, was a comeback of sorts after a period of downtime, and with it she immediately thrust herself back into the limelight.
Tumblr media
Fave
2021’s “Baby Riddim” was a game-changer for Fave. It was the means with which she made her mainstream journey, and even now it is easy to see why the audience found it so irresistible. 3 months later, she capitalised on the newfound fame to release Riddim 5, her debut EP, weaving heart-strung writing into an AfroRnB sonic template to excellent results.
Her releases in the period since then have been somewhat sparse—only two songs of her own in two years—but she has made up for it with a number of well-delivered features. Her latest, “Belong To You” is a marker of her undying talent and promise.
Tumblr media
Qing Madi
It may have gone under the radar, but Qing Madi had an exceptional 2023. She began the year as an underground artist, secured (and brilliantly delivered on) a dream collaboration with BNXN, built on that momentum to release a brilliant debut EP, and is now watching as “American Love”, a track off it, is pushing to become her biggest song yet. The 18 year old singer is making an organic growth fueled by addictive hooks and clever writing, and now looks to be one of the industry’s brightest stars of the future, poised to follow in the examples of the other women on this list.
Tumblr media
Bloody Civilian
Bloody Civilian is on her way up. The 26-year-old made giant strides in 2023, logging in her debut EP Anger Management in June and returning in November with Anger Management: At Least We Tried, a special remix version that featured stars like Joeboy, ODUMODUBLVCK and Fave. Her music is a special blend of Nigerian and foreign sounds, allowing her to draw from a wide pool of sonic influences and still create cohesive projects. She is still firmly in the ones to watch category, but her trajectory places her to rank beside Nigeria’s elite in the not-too-distant future.

Black Stars Who Could Make History At 2023 Oscars
By Jovonne Ledet

Two Black stars are on the cusp of making history at the 2023 Oscars.
On Sunday (March 12), the 95th Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
A number of Black entertainers including Angela Bassett, Rihanna, Brian Tyree Henry, and Temsearned nods at this year's awards. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also landed Oscar nominations for Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, and Best Original Song.
But an Oscars win for Bassett and Tems would be historic.
Bassett, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wakanda Forever, could make history as the first actor to ever win for portraying a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), according to Action Network. Her historic win would follow the film's first installment becoming the first Oscar-winning film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe four years ago.
Sunday could also be a groundbreaking night for Tems as a co-writer of Rihanna's "Lift Me Up" from Wakanda Forever. If the hit takes home the award for Best Original Song, Tems would be the first Nigerian to ever win an Oscar, per Action Network.
Both Bassett and Tems already made history by being nominated, but a win would mark both entertainers' first Oscars.

Love, Life, and Afrobeat: A Deep Dive into Wrash Heed’s Latest EP Afrobeat artist Wrash Heed, who hails from Lagos, Nigeria and was born Rasheed Osanyinpeju continues to rise through the ranks of the Afrobeat scene with his new EP, “This Is It. ” It’s five tracks of addictive beats and socially relevant lyrics about love, life, and being oneself. With tracks ranging from the lighthearted games of “Taken or Single” to the self-reflecting emotions of “Falling”, “This Is It” provides a satisfying mental workout that also conveys powerful feelings to translate into physical movements. The genius in this EP lies in the fact that Wrash Heed has once again managed to come up with songs that prompt both critical thinking and head nodding. To add more depth to our discussion, we delve into issues that surrounded the creation of “This Is It” and the sources of inspiration that the band drew from while making the record. In this interview, Wrash Heed speaks about his personal development as an artist, the main message behind his art, and what he anticipates to achieve. However, as we explore more about the making of “This Is It”, it could be deduced that Wrash Heed’s music was far from being mere entertainment. This one remains a spirited portrayal of life in its richness and its pleasures and an affirmation of the unifying force of rhythm. Listen to This is It https://open.spotify.com/album/445uoWF9HnNpcIU2h458Vj?si=Wqrq9r3oSzGurH2a3BPeqA Follow Wrash Heed on Facebook Twitter Spotify Soundcloud Youtube Instagram   Were there any challenges you faced during the production of "This is It"? How did you overcome them? The production of "This is it" was both a rewarding and challenging experience. One of the main challenges was finding the right balance between staying true to my roots and pushing the boundaries of my sound. I wanted each track to reflect my Nigerian heritage while also incorporating global influences. It wasn’t easy to blend these elements seamlessly, but by working closely with my producer, El Buzzi, we were able to experiment with different sounds until we found the perfect mix. Another challenge was ensuring that the EP felt cohesive while still allowing each track to stand out on its own. This required a lot of fine-tuning, but in the end, I’m proud of how it all came together. The key to overcoming these challenges was patience, persistence, and a deep belief in the vision we had for this project. Is there a particular track on the EP that you feel especially proud of or connected to? Why? While I’m proud of the entire EP, both "Showcase" and "Taken or Single" hold special places in my heart. "Showcase" is a track that really encapsulates the energy and spirit of This is it. The fusion of genres in "Showcase" reflects my artistic journey and the different influences that have shaped me. The lyrics are playful yet meaningful—they’re about expressing yourself fully and without reservation, which is something I strive to do in my life and music. On the other hand, "Taken or Single" is a track that delves into the complexities of relationships. It’s about navigating the grey areas of love and commitment, which is something many people can relate to. The track has a more introspective vibe, and it allowed me to explore a different side of my artistry—one that’s more reflective and emotionally charged. Both tracks highlight different aspects of my journey, making them special in their own ways. Did you collaborate with any other artists or producers on this project? If so, how did those collaborations influence the final product? Yes, I had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented people on This is it. The entire EP was produced by El Buzzi, who really helped bring my vision to life. His ability to understand and translate my ideas into sound was phenomenal. We had a very collaborative process where we bounced ideas off each other, and that synergy is evident in the final product. Each track feels like a perfect blend of our creative inputs.
I didn’t feature any other artists on this EP because I wanted to keep the focus on my personal narrative, but El Buzz’s production was a crucial collaboration that shaped the entire project. [caption id="attachment_56871" align="alignnone" width="2000"] We had a very collaborative process where we bounced ideas off each other, and that synergy is evident in the final product[/caption] What do you hope listeners will take away from "This is It"? I hope that listeners will come away from This is it feeling inspired and connected. The EP is about self-expression, embracing who you are, and celebrating the journey that leads you to that realization. I want my music to resonate with people on a personal level, whether it’s through the beats, the lyrics, or the overall vibe. I hope listeners can find something in the music that speaks to their own experiences and encourages them to be true to themselves. Ultimately, I want them to enjoy the music, feel the energy, and maybe even dance a little. Are there any musical influences that played a significant role in shaping the sound of this EP? Definitely. I’ve always been influenced by a mix of genres—Afrobeats, R&B, dancehall, and Amapiano are all woven into the fabric of this EP. Artists like, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rama and Omah Lay have had a profound impact on my approach to Afrobeats, while global sounds like dancehall and Amapiano have also played a significant role. I’m constantly inspired by the way these genres can be blended together to create something new and exciting. The fusion of these influences is what gives This is It its unique sound and makes it a true representation of my musical identity. How do you see "This is It" fitting into your broader artistic journey? This is it is a milestone in my artistic journey. It’s the culmination of years of growth, experimentation, and self-discovery. Every project I’ve worked on has led me to this point, where I feel like I’ve truly found my voice as an artist. The EP represents a turning point where I’m more confident in my sound and my message. It’s a statement of who I am and where I’m going, and I see it as a foundation for future projects. As I continue to evolve, This is it will remain a key part of my journey, marking the moment when everything clicked for me artistically. https://open.spotify.com/artist/0LqWhFuVovi1zIPzWVxo6G?si=iGBg5CdCQV2D0eiJcyRPLw Looking ahead, what's next for Wrash Heed after "This is It"? After This is it, I’m excited to keep pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds. I’m already working on new music, and I’m planning to collaborate with other artists to expand my creative horizons. There are also plans for live performances, where I can connect with my fans in a more direct and personal way. I want to continue building on the momentum from this EP, reaching more listeners, and solidifying my place in the global music scene. The journey is far from over, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.

All hail the new Ada Mazi of the Ancient Arochukwu Kingdom! by u/Mickleborough
All hail the new Ada Mazi of the Ancient Arochukwu Kingdom! Everyone’s excited that Meghan’s been designated an ‘Ada Mazi’ of the Ancient Arochukwu Kingdom, by 3 kings, no less. This seems to translate as ‘daughter of an aristocrat’ (so they’re honouring Thomas Markle, but let’s not quibble). Somehow this has become translated as ‘Princess of Nigeria’. Whoopee! Now Meghan can legitimately write emails beginning: ‘Greetings. I am Meghan, Princess of Nigeria. I have a foundation worth many millions, but to access it, I need to pay the California Department of Justice a small amount. If you help me, my foundation will repay you 10 thousand million zillion dollars. Email me at [email protected].’Let’s recognise the latest Ada Mazi!Below’s a photo of Meghan sporting a green striped shawl gifted by the wife of the Governor of Lagos (should’ve ironed out the fold creases before wearing it, Meghan!). She also displays at least 2 sashes proclaiming her new honour.Newly minted Ada Mazi, Meghan Merkel (no relationship to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel). ‘Is that a microphone? Gimme it.’Will Meghan sashay into state banquets with her sashes? The Princess of Wales does, because that’s de rigueur.November 2022: State Banquet for President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and first formal appearance as Princess of Wales. The blue sash represents the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, given by the late Queen Elizabeth II as the highest order for chivalry in her service. The yellow Royal Family Order is awarded by the monarch (here, the late Queen again) to female relations in recognition - not all female relations (cough Meghan) receive one.Silly me! The question of Meghan wearing her sashes to state banquets doesn’t arise because she’d never be invited to one. Although it’d be hilarious if she were; declined to wear the sashes; and be condemned by the Ancient Arochukwu Kingdom.A note on Nigerian royalty: from quick and imperfect internet research, it seems that Nigeria comprises many small kingdoms and tribes, each with royalty. This seems akin to Germany before unification in the 19th century. post link: https://ift.tt/8rglQkw author: Mickleborough submitted: May 14, 2024 at 11:24PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. Into The Podverse: Podcasting In Africa and Around The World
Tumblr media
Let's start with what I didn't know about Africa when I began listening to Tony Doe's podcast about African podcasting. Africa is the second-largest continent at 30 million square kilometers or 11.7 million square miles. I didn't know that Africa is bigger than China, India, the continental U.S., and most of Europe combined. Amazingly, the Sahara alone is bigger than the continental USA.
Africa is the 'cradle of humankind'. Fossils found in Africa, show that human beings and their closest relatives, the gorilla and chimpanzees, were born and evolved in Africa. Africa is the second most populated continent in the world. There are 1.3 billion people in Africa, 17% of the world population. The continent’s population is expected to more than double to 2.3 billion people by 2050. Africa has 54 countries and about 3000 tribes. There are over 3000 languages spoken in Africa. Amharic, Arabic, English, French, Hausa, Oromo, Swahili and Yoruba are among the languages widely spoken.
Other than Antarctica, Africa is the continent in which people know the least about. Thanks to Tony Doe (Tony Onwuchekw), I've learned much about Africa the continent, its people, its dynamic cultures and its thriving podcasting community.
Tony is the creator / host of Into The Podverse. Tony's marketing pitch is:  "the podcast explores the latest innovations, challenges and opportunities for podcasters from an African perspective. It also features exclusive interviews with Masters of the Podverse, all aimed at helping to elevate the voices and experiences of the podcasting community."
Who is Tony Doe? He is a Radio and Podcast Consultant, out of Lagos, Nigeria. He has years of experience as an Audio Content Strategist, in Production And in Management For Multi-Format Radio Stations. Most recently at Wazobia 93.7 FM, Onitsha, Tony led a team of on-air talents as Programs’ Manager to top three status in the region, growing the audience share by 75% in three months.
He currently curates, produces and hosts the informative hybrid newsletter-podcast, Into The Podverse, which explores challenges and opportunities for podcasters from an African perspective. Tony also has other shows as ‘The Tony Doe Podcast’, with radio broadcasters as guests, and Up Gunners! A weekly review and tribute to his favorite football team, Arsenal FC.
Tony says: "At Into The Podverse, we're more than just a newsletter and podcast – we're your gateway to the dynamic world of podcasts with a uniquely African perspective. Formerly known as "Podcast Related: This Week In The Podverse," we have rebranded to create a unified brand that encapsulates the essence of who we are and what we bring to your podcasting experience.
Into The Podverse is a subsidiary of Tony Doe Media, dedicated to providing unparalleled insights and trends within the podcasting industry. We’re passionate about podcasting, focusing on highlighting the vibrant and ever-growing African podcast scene
Into The Podverse with Tony Doe delves into the latest releases, industry news, and emerging trends, offering a comprehensive view that reflects the richness of the podcasting world from a Nigerian and African standpoint.
Doe notes: "Our mission is to be your go-to destination for podcasting insights. Whether you're a podcaster looking to stay ahead of trends, an industry professional seeking valuable perspective, or someone simply curious about the diverse and exciting African podcast landscape, Into The Podverse has you covered."
Here are some topics on Into The Podverse.  "Recently on X, Big Cuz (@imohumoren) got everyone talking by calling out some podcasts for normalizing prostitution and transactional relationships. It's sparked concern about the impact on our values and culture. People are speaking up against it, saying these podcasts should focus on more meaningful stuff instead. It's not just about entertainment; it's about how these shows influence society. For indie African podcasters like us, it's a reminder to be mindful of the content we create. West African country Burkina Faso to criminalise homosexuality

West African country Burkina Faso to criminalise homosexuality
Tumblr media
The landlocked West African country Burkina Faso is the latest African nation to criminalise homosexuality.
While gay marriage is not legal and same-sex relationships are not socially accepted, the country has never specifically outlawed homosexuality.
However, Burkina Faso’s decision to outlaw homosexual relations is part of an overhaul of its marriage laws.
The new legislation, which still needs to be passed by the military-controlled parliament and signed off by junta leader Ibrahim Traoré, will only recognise religious and customary marriages.
“Henceforth homosexuality and associated practices will be punished by the law,” the justice minister was quoted by AFP news agency as saying.
National Consultive Commission on Human Rights President Gonta Alida Henriette said the government’s decision “would be the greatest violation of human rights in Burkina Faso and would condemn hundreds of thousands of LGBT+ people in Burkina Faso.”
Alice Nkom, an African human rights activist, echoed this sentiment.
“Why politicize a privacy matter among consenting adults while making it a crucial topic for Africa? I answer you: Stop spying on your neighbor for the wrong reasons,” Nkom told Washington Blade.
“Mind your own life and, if you care about your neighbor, worry about their health, if water is coming out of the tap, if there is electricity in the house, or food to feed their children.”
“Why are they prioritising the issue of saying no to homosexuality in Africa instead of no wars or armed conflict in Africa, no poverty in Africa, no hunger in Africa, no misery in Africa?,” Nkom asked.
“We should stop being distracted by topics that take away nothing and add nothing to our lives.”
LGBTQIA+ laws across Africa
About 30 African countries currently ban homosexuality, according to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA).
Uganda, Mauritania and several northern Nigerian states punish same-sex relations extremely harshly, with those accused possibly facing the death penalty.
Gay sex has been decriminalised in Cape Verde, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Mozambique and Seychelles.
South Africa is the only nation on the continent to allow gay marriage, which was legalised in 2006.
However, significantly, the daughter of Cameroon’s president Brenda Biya recently came out as a lesbian.
She and has since called for laws that ban homosexuality in her country to be changed.
