Gary Barker has been working for the Garfield comic strip and related PAWS Inc. merch since 1983. Given he became more active on Instagram, I recently asked him how many were left after the Viacom buyout, since PAWs Inc. was shut down after
They went from over 20-40 in the company for the art department to just 5 freelance workers Jim keeps connections to [currently Gary Barker, Brett Koth, Dan Davis (no relation to Jim), Lori Barker (no relation to Gary), and Tom Howard]. Incidentally, almost all merch died after the Viacom buyout. Some others quit several years before the buyout in late 2019, likely in anticipation of the deal (Larry Fentz 2017, Jeff Wesley 2018)
It's honestly depressing. Most of the former PAWs Inc. staff worked together since the late 80s/early 90s, regardless of the strip's decline

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine (Winter 1992)
"Garfield Meets The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was a one-page comic appearing in the Winter 1992 issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine.
Plot Garfield approaches the sewer dressed as a Turtle, and introduces himself to the Ninja Turtles as "Garfello", brandishing a pizza cutter. He suggests the Turtles go out on patrol while he guards their pizza, in an obvious ploy to sneak the food for himself. The Turtles hear some noise, and Garfield indicates that it came from his sidekick. The Turtles kick Garfield out of their lair, realizing he's not a real Turtle. Garfield is shown beaten as Odie is seen wearing a turtle shell on his head while the Turtles question how Garfield talked without moving his mouth.
Trivia This comic was written by Jim Davis, creator of Garfield, and the Turtles were inked by Peter Laird. Gary Barker and Larry Fentz provided the art, whilst Steve Lavigne provided colors and Mary Kelleher provided lettering.
